TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V741000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LIA TOYOTA OF NORTHAMPTON (280 KING ST, NORTHAMPTON, MA 01060, (413) 341-5299) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

JUST CRANK THE VEHICLE UP AND THE AIRBAG INSIGNIA CAME ON AND THE BOOK SAYS TAKE TO DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. SO I DID THAT AND NOW THEY ARE TRYING TO CHARGE ME S125 FOR CHECKING OUT A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM OTHER THAN THAT I WOULD HAVE NEVER TOOK IT TO MANUFACTURER IF I KNEW IT WOULD COSTS ME 125 DOLLARS TO CHECK A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM.THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN I STARTED DRIVING AND IT STAYED ON.

TAKATA RECALL I HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTING TO GET THE AIRBAGS FIXED FOR ALMOST THREE YEARS. I CALL TOYOTA, THEY CALL THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TELL ME TO CALL BACK IN A FEW WEEKS IF NO ONE HAS CALLED BE TO SCHEDULE A FIX. IN A FEW WEEKS I CALL TOYOTA BACK AND START ALL OVER BUT I AM ASSURED EVERYTIME THAT THEY WILL GET IT FIXED THIS TIME. I DO NOT KNOW WHERE ELSE TO TURN IN GETTING THIS FIXED.

THE DEALER SAYS THAT THE PART HAS BEEN ORDERED BUT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL ARRIVE. HOW MANY YEARS ARE WE SUPPOSED TO WAIT TO HAVE THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION FIXED?

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made abnormal sounds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there were holes in the subframe and that the subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that an unknown recall had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who repaired and welded the rear subframe of the vehicle. The contact indicated that in 2017 the vehicle was serviced under the Manufacturer Extended Warranty Service Campaign regarding rusting and corrosion of the subframe. The contact indicated that the failure occurred. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 320,000.

THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED A NOTICE WAS SENT. THE CONSUMER CLAIMED TO NOT HAVE RECEIVED THE LETTER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT FLASHING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. DUE TO THE FAILURE, EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS NEEDED TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS THE STEERING ALSO FAILED TO OPERATE DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A DEFECTIVE SPRING VALVE. NEITHER THE MANUFACTURER NOR THE DEALER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000.

AS IN NHTSA COMPLAINT ID # 11316132, MY 2007 TOYOTA SEQUOIA BEGAN MAKING A LOUD VACUUM NOISE UPON COLD START FOR APPROX 1 MIN IN MID TO LATE FEBRUARY 2020. WITHIN ABOUT 1 WEEK, THE NOISE CONTINUED AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AS WELL AS VSC AND VSC TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON. UPON TAKING MY VEHICLE TO LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS A RESULT OF CODES P1445 AND TSB 0230 12. THE ISSUE IS NOW AFFECTING MY ACCELERATION. I'M NO LONGER ABLE TO ACCELERATE WHEN QUICK SPEED IS NECESSARY FOR FREEWAY ENTRY. I'M ALSO UNABLE TO GO ABOVE 65MPH. MY CAR MUST BE FIXED IN ORDER TO PASS SMOG, HOWEVER VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS SMOG IN CA WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. UPON RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT TOYOTA WAS REIMBURSING CUSTOMERS FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM FOR MODELS BETWEEN 2008 AND 2010, BUT NOT FOR 2007. THIS SEEMS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM, AS I'VE FOUND THERE IN SEVERAL ONLINE TOYOTA FORUMS THAT THERE IS ACTUALLY A BYPASS KIT FOR SALE FOR A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS THAT ALLOWS THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP TO BE BYPASSED. THAT IS MUCH MORE COST EFFECTIVE THAN THE ACTUAL REPAIR WHICH IS ALMOST $2,500. I CALLED TOYOTA TO NOTIFY THEM OF THE ISSUE AND INQUIRE AS TO WHETHER THEY WOULD EXTEND THE PROGRAM FOR 2008 - 2010 TO 2007 AND AT THIS TIME THEY WILL NOT. FILING A COMPLAINT IN ORDER TO ELEVATE THE ISSUE AND HELP TOYOTA UNDERSTAND THEY NEED TO EXTEND THE PROGRAM OF AN ALREADY IDENTIFIED ISSUE THAT IS AFFECTING MORE THAN THE YEARS IN EXISTING SCOPE.

SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP MAKES A LOUD VACUUM NOISE ON STARTUP AS IN NHTSA ID# 11064285. FOUR RELATED CODES GENERATED ON MY VEHICLE AND, NOW, AS A RESULT ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. ALSO IMPACTS ACCELERATION ON FREEWAY WHEN QUICK SPEED IS NECESSARY ON ENTRY. CAR STRUGGLES TO GET POWER TO ACCELERATE AND WILL NOT GO OVER 65 MPH FOR PASSING. CAR MUST BE FIXED TO PASS A CA SMOG CHECK AND WILL NOT PASS WITH AN ENGINE LIGHT. TOYOTA IS REIMBURSING SOME, BUT NOT ALL MODELS IMPACTED BY THIS KNOWN ISSUE. REPAIRING THIS ISSUE WITH THE AIR INDUCTION PUMP COSTS OVER $2000. TOYOTA HAS A PROGRAM FOR 2008-2010 SEQUOIA MODELS, BUT NOT FOR 2007 MODELS. WHEN SEEKING A MECHANIC TO REPAIR THE ISSUE, MECHANIC REPORTED HE'D SEEN THIS ISSUE MANY TIMES BEFORE AND RECEIVED A CALL THE WEEK PRIOR FOR SAME ISSUE. BECAUSE OF THE EXPENSE, HE IS TELLING OWNERS TO NOT GET IT FIXED AS THE CAR IS STILL DRIVEABLE, BUT WITHOUT REPAIR, THE ACCELERATION AND AIR POLLUTION ISSUES REMAIN. CALLED TOYOTA AND CUSTOMER SERVICE REP ASSUMED 2007S/MY VIN WAS A PART OF THE RELATED REIMBURSEMENT/REPAIR PROGRAM, BUT THEY ARE NOT. WAS TRANSFERRED TO A SECOND TIER REP AND HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO SINCE THE 2007 VIN'S ARE NOT A PART OF THE PROGRAM. WHEN I TOLD HIM ABOUT A CASE NUMBER I'D FOUND IN MY ONLINE RESEARCH, HE LOOKED IT UP AND SAW REFERENCE TO A CUSTOMER WHO HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH HIS 4RUNNER. THE 4RUNNERS ARE ALSO NOT A PART OF THIS PROGRAM, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN CALLS ABOUT IT. IF THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THEN TOYOTA SHOULD BE REIMBURSING OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE AND CONSUMERS SHOULD BE PROTECTED FROM THIS TYPE OF NEGLIGENCE AND DAMAGE TO THE ENVIRONMENT. ONLINE RESEARCH SHOWS THIS ISSUE IMPACTS MULTIPLE TOYOTA V8 MODELS, INCLUDING SEQUOIA, TUNDRA, 4RUNNER.

SECONDARY INJECTION PUMP IS MAKING A LOUD VACUUM TYPE OF NOISE. OUR OWN ONLINE RESEARCH LEADS US TO BELIEVE THAT THE BEARINGS ARE GOING BAD IN THE PUMP. THIS NOISE IS VERY LOUD WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED. IF YOU QUICKLY TAP THE GAS PEDAL, THE NOISE GOES AWAY FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THE NOISE WILL USUALLY COME BACK ON FOR ABOUT ANOTHER 10-20 SECONDS AND IT WILL GO OFF ON IT'S OWN. IT SEEMS THAT ONCE THE ENGINE HAS BEEN ON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS TOTAL, THE LOUD VACUUM NOISE GOES AWAY ON ITS OWN. THIS LOUD VACUUM NOISE OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK AND ALSO WHILE DRIVING IT. IN OUR RESEARCH ONLINE, IT SEEMS THAT THIS EXACT PROBLEM IS WHY TOYOTA ISSUED REIMBURSEMENT OFFERS ("IN RESPONSE TO REPORTS OF AIR INDUCTION PUMP ASSEMBLIES AND/OR AIR INJECTION SWITCHING VALVES ISSUES ON THEIR 2007-2010 TUNDRA AND 2008-2010 SEQUOIA MODELS, TOYOTA HAS DECIDED TO INCREASE ITS WARRANTY ON THESE PARTS AND IS EVEN OFFERING A REIMBURSEMENT IF YOU ALREADY HAD THIS ISSUE FIXED. LEAVE THE 2007 SEQUOIA'S OFF OF THIS REIMBURSEMENT LIST, WHEN THEY ALSO CLEARLY HAVE THIS SAME SECONDARY INJECTION PUMP PROBLEM AS ALL THE VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THAT PARTICULAR REIMBURSEMENT OFFER?! WHY HAS TOYOTA MOTOR CORP. BEEN ABLE TO GET BY WITH THIS? I'VE SEEN ONLINE THAT TONS OF PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. WHEN THIS SORT OF VERY EXPENSIVE PROBLEM OCCURS, THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD JUST MANDATE THAT A RECALL BE DONE. BECAUSE OF COURSE, TOYOTA TRIED TO RE-NIG AND NOT ACTUALLY REIMBURSE PEOPLE FOR THIS REPAIR. THAT IS NOT PROTECTING US CUSTOMERS THAT ARE NOW BUYING THESE USED VEHICLES THAT HAD THESE PROBLEMS AND PREVIOUS OWNERS NEVER HAD IT FIXED!

The frame of the vehicle is rusting away despite being sprayed with rust inhibitor during the frame recall. The vehicle was considered unsafe to drive due to large holes in the frame just 3 years after being sprayed by Toyota.

Rear hatch/latch. I purchased my 2007 Sequoia lightly used in 2013. Luckily I purchased a 3 year extended warranty also. Within a year my rear hatch broke for the 1st time, I was unable to open the rear gate, my warranty covered the parts & Labor, within a year it broke again, this time the door would not latch closed, it freely opened & would or could not be secured. This happened while out of town (Fairbanks, AK. In Feb. -40 degrees) luckily the dealership had the parts & was able to fix it quickly. Still covered by my extended warranty. That dealership told me about the consistent problem & I was told about the cheap parts, but also a poor design as far as weather & grime able to reach the components & cause corrosion quickly. It broke one more time before my warranty expired (#3) again unable to open the rear gate. That repair didn’t even last 3 months, But the warranty was expired & I had a very reliable mechanic replace it this time (#4). Much cheaper than what Toyota wanted to charge me. He did a little weather preventative repair and I actually got nearly 2 years on that repair. He also said it was a terrible design flaw on the rear hatch, & there was significant corrosion on many other parts in the rear gate. He cleaned it up as well as possible. When it broke the 5th time, I was furious, & couldn’t see the point of the $750.00+ repair (Alaska is more $$), again was broken in the unable to open position. So I used the window & crawling over the seats method for over a year, until my window started making horrible noise when opening. I made an appointment with Toyota in Anchorage, AK to repair it this time as I had a recall taken care of at the same time. The only visible corrosion on the vehicle was around the latch, the window does not work properly, & you hear parts rattling when you open & close the gate now. I realize the open gate break is not common, But that was a horribly dangerous situation, recall is needed immediately for safety & reputation

Frame is completely rusted. Almost the body is about to detach from the frame. A very safety issue. This vehicle was never taken to Toyota for rusted frame at the time of the recall. Toyota must resolve this issue because it's safety matter as the frame can separate from the body at any time.

WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN THE BACK HATCH, THE LATCH BROKE. I HAD IT REPLACED ON THE ABOVE DATE. ABOUT A YEAR LATER, IT BROKE AGAIN. TOYOTA REIMBURSED ME WHAT IT COST TO HAVE IT FIXED AGAIN AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ON 8/19/13. ABOUT ANOTHER YEAR LATER IT BROKE A THIRD TIME. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA, THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE TO FIX THIS RECURRING PROBLEM, I WAS ON MY OWN. I CAN ONLY GET INTO THE TRUNK BUT PUTTING THE WINDOW UP AND DOWN. (THERE IS ONLY A 1 YEAR WARRANTY ON THIS PART). IT HAS BEEN ABOUT A YEAR SINCE IT BROKE AGAIN AND A FRIEND SUGGESTED I MAKE THIS COMPLAINT. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND OTHERS WITH MY CAR HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT HAVING THIS SAME RECURRING PROBLEM. THEY CLAIM THE PART THAT IS BEING USED IS PLASTIC. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL PROBLEM AND A QUALITY PART BE USED TO FIX IT.

2007 Toyota Sequoia frame completely deteriorated and rusted through. I discovered this when brining my vehicle in for the Toyota Airbag Recall when the technician brought this safety issue to my attention. Previous driving had been extremely unstable and buckled when I was on the highway. Since discovering the frame issue, I stopped driving the vehicle. I believe this is a safety issue caused by a defective frame that Toyota is aware of and had issue a past recall for. The Toyota dealer has made a video of the deteriorated frame and has commented that the vehicle is a safety issue.

car is not recalled yet the same model year is recalled from 2007, this problem effects my car as well as cars made earlier in the year. The suspension is unstable and joints are worn in many places ball joints and other steering effecting joints. The car makes sudden side movements like the wheel is about to fall off or the tire fell off the time but the tires are properly inflated. Repair estimated are atleast $600 possibly $1200 as it is worn in 2 places The problem is on the passenger side front. The car has 114000 miles. There is no recall on this car but other Sequoias made the same year are recalled This is pretty obvious the problem was in the design and not the date of manufacture.

THERE IS SEVERE ABNORMAL FRAME RUST & PERFORATIONS IN THE VEHICLES FRAME. I RECEIVED NOTICED TO ADDRESS TOYOTA FRAME RECALL WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS TO INQUIRY ABOUT ANY RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. THE REP EXPLAINED OF TWO RECALLS & SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT AT MY LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER (FITZGERALD LAKEFOREST TOYOTA) TO ADDRESS THE FRAME RECALL CAMPAIGN & AIRBAG RECALL. THE SERVICE ADVISER EXPLAINED FRAME RECALL REMEDY WAS NOT APPLICABLE BECAUSE THERE WERE PERFORATIONS DISCOVERED IN THE VEHICLES FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS ENTITLED TO A FRAME REPLACEMENT. THE ADVISER EXPLAINED THE FRAME RECALL REPLACEMENT HAS EXPIRED & THAT I NEEDED TO CALL TOYOTA CUSTOMERS RELATIONS TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM. THE AIRBAG RECALL WAS CORRECTED. I CALLED THEM. THE TOYOTA CUSTOMERS RELATIONS REPRESENTATIVE EXPLAINED THE FRAME RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE EXPIRED JANUARY 31, 2019 & TOYOTA IS NOT ABLE TO HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM. I AM NOT SURE WHY THERE IS A EXPIRATION DATE ON THIS RECALL IF THERE ARE STILL VEHICLES OUT ON THE ROAD WITH FAULTY VEHICLE FRAMES. I HAVE ATTACHED THE PICTURE OF PERFORATION IN THE FRAME.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD SIT IDLE IN THE DRIVE POSITION, IT WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WOULD APPLY EXTREME BRAKING PRESSURE IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS SERVICED; HOWEVER THE FAILURE WOULD STILL OCCUR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT INSTANCES OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION SINCE THE DAY OF PURCHASE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNDER 54,000.

THE CONTACT PUT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD AND CHECK TO SEE IF THE FLOOR MAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE, BUT FOUND THAT IT WASN'T THE FLOOR MAT. The rear gate door or Deck lid will not open. with either key, or any other method. Every time this occurs, I have to take to the body shop to open and pay $200 for them to open it. They have to climb to the back, dismantle the rear door panels from the inside and undo some mechanisms to open it finally. The shop stated that they have had this problem with these Sequoias many times.

THE 2007 HAS THE SAME ENGINE AND SAME DEFECTIVE PARTS BUT TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT. Selling Old tires as if they were new On May 1st 2023, I took my 2007 Toyota Sequoia to Toyota of Vero Beach to be serviced. They advised me that my 2 Goodyear tires were dry rotting and cracking. The tires were purchased in 5/14/2019. The odometer read 181923 the mileage when they were inspected by Toyota was 205140 a difference of 23,217 miles and show no wear. I called the mechanic stated I purchased the tires in 2010, how could they be dry rotting and cracking. The mechanic looked up the serial number and determined they were made in 2015 and were 8 years old. The tires are P265/65R17 110S S2 WRL SR-A TL MFG. No. M7AHEXWR2316 and M7AHEXWR2315. I can’t understand how you can sell me tires that are 5 years old and pass them off as new. That is not what I bargained for! This is unconscionable and dangerous since this vehicle is used to tow a heavy boat.

MY VSC TRAC, TRAC OFF AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ALL CAME ON YESTERDAY. I WAS DRIVING SO I'M NOT SURE IF THEY ALL CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME OR NOT. THE BRAKE DOES NOT OVER RIDE CRUISE CONTROL ON HIGHWAY. THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP HAS GONE OUT. THIS PARTICULAR COMPONENT HAS A KNOW DEFECT ISSUE WITH TOYOTA. TOYOTA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON 2008-2010 SEQUOIAS WITH THE EXACT SAME ENGINE AS MY 2007 BUT THEY WILL NOT COVER MY VEHICLE. IF THEY KNOW THERE IS AN ISSUE AND THEY ARE WILL TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY OF SOME VEHICLES, THEY SHOULD COVER ALL VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE TYPES BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL GOING TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE! THIS REPAIR CAN COST THE CONSUMER UP TO $3600. THIS IS A SCAM IN MY OPINION.

2007 SEQUOIA VSC TRAC SENSOR LIGHTS TURNING ON AND OFF AND HEARING GRINDING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING. ALONG WITH THE VSC TRAC SENSOR LIGHTS TURNING ON, THE BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHT TURNS ON AS WELL. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE HAPPENED AS I WAS PICKING UP MY DAUGHTER FROM SCHOOL, AND AS I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM THE SCHOOL DOING NO MORE THAN 20 MPH - MY VEHICLE MADE A GRINDING NOISE AND ALL THE ABOVE LISTED INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO (NERVOUSLY) DRIVE MY VEHICLE HOME. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. DURING THESE INSTANCES, I HAVE NOTICED DECREASE ACCELERATION AND MY VEHICLE FEELS LIKE THE REAR IS SLIDING FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREE WAY WHEN I FELT MY VEHICLE RATTLED AND A SOMETHING CAME OFF THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE. I WAS ABLE TO TAKE AN EXIT AND SAFETY. I GOT OUT AND CHECKED THE TIRE AND FOUND A 2X5 CHUNK OF RUBBER WAS MISSING FROM THE TIRE WALL AND THE TIRE WAS GOING FLAT. WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN THE BACK-HATCH TO PUT ON THE SPARE TIRE THE HATCH LATCH WOULDN'T WORK. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION I FOUND THE PLASTIC LATCH WAS BROKER AND MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO LOWER THE THE SPARE TIRE. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE CLOSE ENOUGH TO HOME TO DRIVE IT SLOWLY BEFORE THE TIRE WENT COMPLETELY FLAT. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND THE LATCH ISSUE TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SEQUOIA 2002-2007 DUE TO CHEAP PLASTIC PART AND WITH OUT PROVIDING A SECONDARY SAFETY RELEASE TO OPEN THE BACK-HATCH IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. THE REAR LATCH WOULD NOT WORK DURING A CAMPING TRIP IN A REMOTE AREA. THE REAR SEATS HAD BEEN REMOVED AS PER THE OWNERS MANUAL PRIOR TO THE TRIP. THE REAR PORTION OF THE VEHICLE WAS FULL OF CAMPING GEAR, FOOD, WATER, AND OUR FIRST AIDE KIT . I SPRAINED MY HAND AND BACK WHILE FIRST ATTEMPTING REPEATED TIMES TO OPEN THE TAILGATE AND THEN HAVING TO RESORT TO LIFTING HEAVY EQUIPMENT THROUGH THE BACK WINDOW AND ALSO OVER THE PASSENGER SEATS. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALER AT OUT FIRST OPPORTUNITY. WE WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WHICH WAS DESCRIBED TO MY WIFE AND I AS WEAK ENGINEERING AND A PLASTIC PART ALSO KNOW TO FAIL. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE BEEN RAISED BY DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON DUSTY ROADS, BECAUSE THE LATCH WAS NOT PROTECTED FROM DUST AND IT WAS POORLY DESIGNED AND WAS LIKELY TO FAIL IF IT GOT DIRTY. WE LEARNED FROM THIS DEALER THAT WE HAD ALREADY HAD THE LATCH REPLACED A YEAR PRIOR. WE WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA WOULD NO LONGER STAND BEHIND REPAIRS TO THIS VEHICLES TAILGATE LATCH BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS CHRONIC AND THE REPLACEMENT PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN IMPROVE TO PREVENT EXPECTED FAILURES. WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP (BRAKES APPLIED), ONCE RELEASING BRAKE AND SLOWLY STARTING TO MOVE (LESS THAN 1 MPH), EVERYONE IN THE VEHICLE FEELS A NUDGE (LIKE GETTING REAR ENDED OR A BAD DRIVE-LINE U-JOINT). ALSO, FEEL A SIMILAR NUDGE WHEN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTS FROM 3RD TO 4TH GEAR (POSSIBLY 4TH TO 5TH GEAR WITH THE OVER-DRIVE ON) AT ABOUT 50 MPH. THESE CONDITIONS CONSTANTLY OCCUR EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN (EVERYDAY!). REPORTED BOTH CONDITIONS TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE NOV 2012 (WHILE UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY), AND THE DEALER CONTINUES TO SAY THIS IS NORMAL AND CONTINUES TO DIAGNOSE AS SUSPENSION SPRING WRAP/TENSION. THE DEALER ACTION WAS TO LUBE THE DRIVE-LINE U-JOINTS (WITH NO IMPROVEMENT). THE REAR LATCH WHICH CONTROLS THE OPENING OF THE REAR HATCH BROKE. THIS PART IS MADE OF PLASTIC (PERHAPS COSTING 0.30), AND IT IS SHELTERED FROM DIRECT SUN AND WEAR AND TEAR BY BEING COVERED WITH A PART OF THE HATCH WHICH IS MADE OF STEEL. THE HATCH WHEN THIS PART IS BROKEN CANNOT BE OPENED. THIS MEANS ONE CANNOT GAIN ACCESS TO THE SPARE TIRE OR THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PART COSTS OVER $90, AND THE LABOR TO REPAIR IS APPROXIMATELY $170. COMBINED THIS APPROACHES $300 WITH TAX. WHEN I BROUGHT THIS INTO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND THEY POINTED OUT THAT THEY HAD TWO OTHER SEQUOIAS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP HAVING THE SAME REPAIR BEING PERFORMED. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 40 MPH IT SUDDENLY LOSES ENGINE POWER AND THE VEHICLE BECOMES HARD TO STEER. BOTH THE VSC OFF AND TRAC OFF LIGHTS CAME ON. I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE AND THE CAR DIED COMPLETELY. I TURNED OFF THE CAR BUT COULD NOT TURN IT ON IMMEDIATELY. WHEN DRIVING CONDITIONS ARE DRY, WARM WEATHER, I MAKE A TURN FROM A COMPLETE STOP AND THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (SKID CONTROL) LIGHT STARTS BLINKING AND ACCELERATION IS DIMINISHED SIGNIFICANTLY. I OWN A 2007 SEQUOIA AND A FEW MONTHS AGO ON RANDOM OCCASIONS WHILE TAKING A RIGHT TURN MY VSC (VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL) LIGHT WOULD TURN ON AND THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NO LONGER SUPPLY GAS TO THE ENGINE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IF I AM TURNING IN TO ON-COMING TRAFFIC WITH MY ENTIRE FAMILY IN THE CAR. THE CARS COMING UP BEHIND ME OFTEN MUST SLOW DOWN QUICKLY TO AVOID REAR ENDING ME. BEGAN ACCELERATION FROM 35 MPH PROGRESSING TO 55 MPH, ACCELERATOR LEFT MY FOOT, ENGINE SPED UP TO OVER 5,000 RPM, APPLIED BOTH FEET TO BRAKE PEDAL WITH ALL MY WEIGHT, ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE ABOVE 5,000 RPM, PUT CAR INTO DRIVE 1 WITH NO CHANGE, ENGINE RACED, PUT CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND ENGINE CONTINUED RACING OVER 5,000 RPM, WAS ABLE TO STEER CAR INTO A DITCH, TURNED OFF IGNITION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BLINKING DURING THIS EVENT. I WAS NEVER ABLE TO STOP WITH MY BRAKES. I MAINTAINED BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL DURING THE EVENT WITH MY ENTIRE BODY WEIGHT ON THE PEDAL AND THE CAR NEVER, EVER STOPPED RACING.

SEEMS THERE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WHEN SEARCHED ON TOYOTA SEQUOIAS AND TUNDRAS FROM 02 TO 07 VSC TRAC OFF AND ECU REPLACEMENT WHICH IS TO DO WITH SKID CONTROL AND CAN CAUSE DEATH AND INJURY IF IT FAILS. APPARENTLY I AM FINDING OUT THAT THOUSANDS HAVE REGISTERED WITH THIS SITE AND NO TOYOTA RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED AND THE COMPANY DOESN'T WANT TO RECALL BECAUSE IT IS A 2300, REPAIR. THE COMPUTER CHIP IS THE PROBLEM AND IT GOES BAD THAT SOON? WOW TOYOTA IS JUST TURNING THE US GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE AROUND AND SCREWING THEM SILLY AND LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK. IN JANUARY 2010, AS I WAS DOING AN OIL CHANGE ON MY 2007 SEQUOIA, I NOTICED SOME CORROSION ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD AND ALSO THROUGH THE ENGINE BAY. I TOOK IT IN TO MID CITY TOYOTA FOR AN WARRANTY CLAIM INSPECTION ON THE ISSUE, MARCH 2010. IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT IT WAS A DEFECT OF SOMETHING, I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS. THE DEALERSHIP CAME BACK AND SAID I MUST HAVE FILLED THE WATER IN THE BATTERY, BECAUSE IT IS NOW LEAKING AND BECAUSE OF THAT, IT HAS VOIDED THE WARRANTY AND THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. I DISAGREED WITH THEIR STATEMENT AND INDICATED THAT WE DID NOT FILL THE BATTERY WITH WATER. MY PARENTS ARE THE ONLY ONES DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THEY WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO DO THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE DEALERSHIP WANTED TO KNOW WHAT TYPE OF RESOLUTION WE WANTED OUT OF THIS, I STATED TO JUST REPAINT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD, NEW BATTERY, AND OTHER DAMAGES ASSOCIATED TO THE BATTERY LEAK. THEY WANTED ME TO GET AN ESTIMATE FROM A LOCAL BODY SHOP. AFTER SUBMITTING THE ESTIMATE, THEY REVIEWED IT AGAIN AND DENIED THE CLAIM. I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP IN, ELK GROVE TOYOTA, IN ELK GROVE CA, JULY 12 2010. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOUND THE BATTERY TO HAVE BEEN FAULTY AND WAS LEAKING, WHICH THE FAN BLEW THE ACID THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAUSING THE PATTERN OF CORROSION AS REPORTED. THEY AGREED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. A FEW DAYS AFTER THE CAR WAS AT THE SHOP, THEY CALLED AND SAID THEY FOUND THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AS OF 6/24/2010 AND WILL NOT FIX THE VEHICLE. I EXPLAINED THAT I HAD REPORTED THE ISSUE TO MID-CITY TOYOTA IN MARCH 2010 DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THEY WANTED ME TO OPEN A CASE WITH TOYOTA, AND THEY'LL REVIEW IT AFTER. I OPENED UP CASE # 1007162060 WITH TOYOTA. ELK GROVE TOYOTA CAME BACK AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND DENIED FIXING THE CAR OUT OF GOOD WILL STATING THAT THERE WAS LACK OF MAINTENANCE RECORDS. *TR

TO WHOM IT MAY BE OF SOME INTEREST, JUNE 19, 2008 I HAD A HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE WITH MY SEQUOIA. I OWN A 2007 SEQUOIA AND IT ONLY HAS 4200 MILES ON IT. THIS PAST SUNDAY I WAS STARTING FROM TRAFFIC WHEN I GENTLY STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN IN TRAFFIC WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE SEQ. JUMPED FROM 0 TO 60 OR 70 MPH. IT TOOK ME OFF GUARD, I THEN PRESSED ON THE BRAKE AGAIN TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE OR AT LEAST SLOW IT DOWN A BIT BUT EVERY TIME I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE THE TRUCK JUST WANTED TO TAKE OFF TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL. IT KEPT DOING THIS FOR ABOUT A GOOD MINUTE. I THOUGHT FOR SURE I WAS GOING TO HIT SOMEONE OR SOMETHING AND INJURE MY KIDS WHO WERE WITH ME AT THE TIME. IT WAS A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. I CALLED FOR A SERVICE APPT. AT TOYOTA OF MANHATTAN WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS ON SAID DATE AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS 5MINS FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD SMELL THE BRAKES. I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND THEY MECHANICS INSISTED IT WAS THE RUGS OF COURSE I DISPUTE IT THEY SAID THE RUG PROBABLY GOT CAUGHT ON THE PEDAL. WHEN I SHOWED THEM HOW FAR THE TWO WERE FROM EACHOTHER THEY THEN SAID IT WOULD GET A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. 4 HOURS LATER I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE "BRAKE BOOSTER". MY PROBLEM WAS NOT THE ACCELERATOR, BUT THE BRAKE ITSELF. HERE I THOUGHT EVERY TIME I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE I THOUGHT THE ANTI-LOCKS WERE KICKING IN WHEN IN FACT THE BRAKES WAS TREMBLING, A TOTAL MALFUNCTION...I WAITED SEVERAL DAYS FOR THE PART TO SHIP FROM JAPAN.. 2007 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WOULD NOT RESTART, KEY WOULD NOT TURN. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE MECHANIC TOLD HIM IT WAS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK. MECHANIC ALSO STATED THERE WAS NO FIX FOR THIS FAILURE. *KB THE CONSUMER HAD TO PULL REALLY HARD ON THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER FOR THE KEY TO RELEASE. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WERE OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE SUCH AS FAILURE OF THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM, POOR CRUISE CONTROL PERFORMANCE AND FAILURE OF THE DVD PLAYER. *JB
