Broken spare tire carrier. Seems to be a common problem on XLE sienna. I have 2005 LE and my spare tire carrier is completely broken. Tried getting a replacement from 5 parts car sienna and they were all broken as well! Another common problems Sienna have are rack and pinions. They always leak. I owned a 1998 then a 2003 sienna and they both leaked from the power steering pack. Spare tire carrier is a dangerous issue. Spare tire can fall off on the road and can cause auto accidents or serious injuries and serious damage to other autos on the road. rack and pinion leaks leave oil on the floor. Steering locks up without power steering which can cause a serious accident.

DOOR CHECK BROKE LOOSE AT WELD TO DOOR FRAME ON DRIVERS SIDE FRONT DOOR. COST OVER $500 TO HAVE A NEW ONE INSTALLED. DIDN'T REALLY NOTICE WHEN IT HAPPENED, JUST WHEN IT DIDN'T WORK ANYMORE (THE DOOR WOULD SWING OPEN WIDER WITHOUT STOPPING) (ABOUT NOVEMBER 2015).

DRIVER SIDE DOOR IS MAKING LOUD NOISE WHEN DOOR IS OPENED OR CLOSED. THIS POPPING NOISE IS COMING FROM DOOR CHECK POCKET. AFTER EXAMINE DOOR CHECK POCKET, THE POPPING SOUND IS BECAUSE POCKET IS DETACHED FORM THE DOOR FRAME DUE TO INSUFFICIENTLY AND POOR WELDING. THE FORCE OF OPENING THE DOOR CAUSES IT TO BREAKAWAY FROM THE DOOR FRAME. I NOTICED 2017 NHTSA ID NUMBER: 11002982 HAS THE SAME ISSUE. YOUTUBE ALSO HAS INCIDENTS REGARDING THIS.

BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT REAR DOORS WILL NOT OPEN USING THE MECHANICAL ASSEMBLY OR DISABLING THE MECHANICAL ASSEMBLY. THIS HAPPENS WHEN TRYING TO EXIT OR ENTER THE CAR. MY SON HAS TO CLIMB THROUGH THE FRONT SEAT. VERY INCONVENIENT.

THE PASSENGER SIDE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT OPEN IN EITHER AUTOMATIC OR MANUAL MODE FROM THE INSIDE. IT WILL OPEN IF SOMEONE PULLS THE HANDLE FROM THE OUTSIDE. POSSIBLE MOTOR AND OR CABLE PROBLEM. THERE ARE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I FOUND ON THE INTERNET. IT STARTED INTERMITTENTLY ABOUT A YEAR AGO BUT NOW IT'S PERMANENT AND CAN ONLY BE OPENED FROM PULLING ON THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE.

DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT SEAT BELTS DO NOT RETRACT PROPERLY. IT GIVES DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER A SENSE THAT THE SEATBELTS WORK ONLY TO FIND THE SEATBELT IS LOOSE AT THE WAIST. A KNOWN PROBLEM BY TOYOTA IN THE 2016 "CAMPAIGN" WHEREBY THEY INSTALLED DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATBELTS. HERE IT IS 2020 AND THE EXACT SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING.

THE FRONT SEAT BELTS GETS TANGLED. IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT TO GET IT UNTANGLED. MOST RECENTLY I WAS UNABLE TO GET IT UNTANGLED SO I HAD TO TAKE IT TO MY GARAGE TO GET IT UNTANGLED. VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM IF IT GET TANGLED WHILE I AM OUT RUNNING ERRANDS AND CANNOT GET IT UNTANGLED SO I CAN DRIVE HOME. HAZARDOUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED!

ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, THE FRONT PASSENGER SAFETY BELT HAS GOTTEN BOUND UP AND STUCK IN THE GUIDE ON THE A PILLAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE PUTTING ON THE BELT, AS WELL AS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. I'M CONCERNED THAT IF THIS HAPPENS DURING A COLLISION THE FRONT PASSENGER WILL NOT BE PROPERLY RESTRAINED AND COULD BE INJURED. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FREE THE BELT WITH TOOLS BEFORE, BUT AM NO LONGER ABLE TO DO SO.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE LATCHING MECHANISM FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON SIX SEPARATE OCCASIONS, HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER DECLINED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SIDE SLIDING DOORS COULD NOT BE OPENED WITH THE AUTOMATIC KEY-LESS REMOTE AND COULD ONLY BE OPENED MANUALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 376,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

ONE DAY I WENT TO GET GAS AND AFTER GETTING GAS, THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR DOES NOT OPEN. WE CANNOT MANUALLY OPEN THE DRIVERS SIDE. THERE IS SOMETHING WITH THE GAS LID THING. I HAVE FOUR CHILDREN AND WE BOUGHT OUT 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA XLW LIMITED AWD FOR SAFETY REASONS. IF I AM EVER IN AN ACCIDENT, NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR TO GET IN OR OUT TO HELP. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND RECTIFIED IMMEDIATELY! AS FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN WITH THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING. WE HAVE TO MANUALLY OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOORS. 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA REAR AUTO HATCH SAFETY REVERSE MECHANISM DOES NOT STOP THE CLOSING OF THE DOOR WHEN ENCOUNTERING AN OBJECT, HAND OR BODY PART OR WHEN ATTEMPTS ARE MADE TO STOP THE CLOSING OF THE DOOR. DOOR CONTINUES TO CLOSE UNDER POWER THAT CANNOT BE REVERSED/STOPPED. THIS DEFECT/PROBLEM COULD CONCEIVABLY BE A SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY FATAL HAZARD IF A CHILD WAS EXITING THE REAR CARGO COMPARTMENT AND THE DOOR WAS IN THE PROCESS OF CLOSING. I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE AWD LIMITED. THE POWER SLIDING DOORS HAVE MOTORS IN THEM THAT OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOORS, VIA SMALL STEEL CABLES. THE STEEL CABLES ATTACHED TO THE MOTORS/DOORS ARE THE SAME STEEL CABLE TYPE USED IN THE TOYOTA SPARE TIRE RECALL. THESE STEEL CABLES ARE TRASH. IF/WHEN THEY BREAK, TOYOTA IS CHARGING $1,600 TO $1,800 PER DOOR TO FIX THE PROBLEM, EVEN IF THE MOTOR ATTACHED TO THE STEEL CABLES IS FINE. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT ON NEWER MODEL SIENNA VANS YOU CAN JUST PURCHASE THE STEEL CABLES AND NOT THE WHOLE MOTOR. A GOOGLE /YAHOO SEARCH TURNS UP HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THESE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR ISSUES AND THE EXTREME COST TO REPAIR THEM. ADDITIONALLY, I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT IF THE STEEL CABLE BREAKS, I CAN NOT OPEN OR CLOSE THE DOOR MANUALLY. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD! I HAVE 2 CHILDREN, IF THE DOOR(S) WON'T OPEN MANUALLY, HOW DO I GET MY KIDS OUT IF I HAVE AN ACCIDENT? TOYOTA NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. 215/65 R 16. Four new CONTINENTAL tires fitted early 2021 to Sienna at Discount Tire in Tucson. July 2021 severe vibration and evidence of tire structural issue photographed. All tires showed similar failure mode.. this was on a very hot day. I took the vehicle to Big O tires and had the front two replaced at my expense so the vehicle was drivable. I returned to Discount Tire in Tucson (Speedway) to ask for a recall check after I learned of the 2021 recall on similar Continental tires for sidewall failure. Discount tire reimbursed one tire. I complained to agent Matthew Harby that the other two tires were dangerous because they showed the same sidewall defect on the hot day. He denied my request for replacement if the remaining two Continental tires because there was no open recall on these. I told I him I was worried about a catastrophic failure in normal operation. I then resumed driving. The weather cooled off and until October the two tires behaved normally again.. On 10/30 about 630pm I was dri ong on I10 and experienced catastrophic tire failure in the outside lane speed approx 65mph. I was fortunate to be able to pull over without losing control but the photo shows the extent of this serious failure. I am now at Discount Tire on Ina Road in Tucson requesting replacement of the failed tire and the final remaining CONTINENTAL tire. The photos should show sufficient evidence of sidewall failure matching the failure mode of the recalled tires. THESE ARE DANGEROUS AND NEED NHTSA ACTION WITH A UNIVERSAL RECALL BEFORE A FATAL EVENT OCCURS

MICHELIN "HYDROEDGE" XSE TIRES. 90K MILE WARRANTY. AFTER 30K MILES THERE ARE DEEP DANGEROUS SEPERATIONS IN THE TREAD PATTERN ON THE SHOULDER AT EVERY SINGLE TREAD LOOP ON ALL 4 TIRES.. REPORTS SAY TIRES EXPLODE FORM LOSS OF INTERNAL INTEGRITY AND PEOPLE HAVE DIED IN ACCIDENTS CAUSED FROM THESE BLOWOUTS. . WEB SEARCH CONFIRMS THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS AND BLOWOUTS. TIRE SHOLD BE ON A SAFETY RECALL LIST BUT THEY ARE NOT. TIRES WERE SO DEFECTIVE THAT MICHELIN HAD TO STOP PRODUCTION. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR BLOWOUTS. WHEN WILL MICHELIN BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE TIRES BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE DIES FROM A BLOW OUT???? WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO FILL OUT THE REST OF THIS FORM, THE FORM WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO ENTER THE NAME FOR A TIRE LINE, "HYDROEDGE" XSE AND THE FACT THAT ALL FOUR (4) TIRES HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. ALSO TWO OF MY TIRES DO NOT HAVE ANY DATE STAMP IN THE DOT # AREA. HOW COULD THIS BE?????

STEERING BECOMES STIFF AND MAKES IT HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING. THE STEERING KNUCKLE OUTSIDE OF THE FIRE WALL IS EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS AND BECOMES STIFF AND REQUIRES FREQUENT LUBRICATION TO MAINTAIN THE FUNCTION OF THE POWER STEERING. THIS IS A CONCERN WE HAVE DEALT WITH FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AND WE HAVE RECENTLY BECOME AWARE THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VAN.

MY STEERING HAS BEEN GETTING STIFF FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS. ABOUT A MONTH I NOTICED THAT MY STEERING WAS STIFF AND THEN SMOOTH A FEW DAYS LATER. NOW IT FEELS STIFF AT COLD START AND EVEN AFTER WARM UP FROM NORMAL DRIVING. I HAVE NEW BELTS AND NO POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK. I'VE READ MANY BLOGS ONLINE AND PEOPLE CLAIMING THAT THE (U-JOINT) AKA "STEERING KNUCKLE" IS THE CAUSE. DUE TO WATER/DIRT/SALT FROM THE ROAD - CAUSING RUST ON THE U-JOINT. TOYOTA MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF INSTALLING A RUBBER BOOT TO PROTECT THE U-JOINT FROM EXPOSURE OF WEATHER ELEMENTS. IF THE U-JOINT IS BADLY RUSTED, IT CAN BREAK OFF AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS A SAFETY RECALL.

STEERING HAS BECOME INTERMITTENTLY STIFF. STEERING WHEEL DOESN'T SELF CENTER. IT'S DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL EITHER WAY. AFTER TURNING THE WHEEL VERY HARD, IT SUDDENLY BECOMES EASY. THIS PHENOMENON OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, AND AT ALL SPEEDS. THE PROBLEM STARTED APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS AGO, AND HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS WORKING PROPERLY, THE BELT IS IN GOOD CONDITION, THERE ARE NO POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKS AND THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL IS CORRECT.

MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA STARTED GIVING PROBLEMS OF RACK AND PINION LEAK FOR POWER STEERING AROUND 90,000 MILES. ASKED THE DEALER IF THIS COULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR POWER TRAIN BUT WAS DENIED. LOOKING AROUND VARIOUS FORUMS ONLINE, I CAME ACROSS THAT MANY OF 2005 TOYOTAS HAVE THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. I ALSO OWN 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY AND IT ALSO HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AT ABOUT SIMILAR MILEAGE. COST TO REPAID WAS MENTIONED AS $1300. I HAVE 2 2005 TOYOTA VEHICLES AND BOTH HAVE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WANTING ME TO SPEND $2600 TOTAL TO REPAIR THE RACK AND PINION UNIT OF BOTH OF MY CARS. I UNDERSTAND A LOT OF OTHER 2005 TOYOTA OWNERS ALSO HAVE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL OR IT SHOULD BE ENHANCED WARRANTY WORK AND TOYOTA SHOULD FIX THIS.

THE DASH BOARD IS CRACKED ON OR NEAR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. I FEEL THIS COULD BE A PROBLEM FOR THE PASSENGER IF ACTIVATED. TOYOTA KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAD A RECALL WHICH ENDED MY 2017. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL. A CHECK WITH TOYOTA AND THEY STATE NOTHING CAN BE DONE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ALONGSIDE THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AWAY FROM THE SCENE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 216,000.

Our rear sliding doors have presented problems for us repeatedly in getting stuck so that passengers in the back cannot open their doors even with the doors unlocked and the child safety latch off. This can happen at all times of the year, in all kinds of weather. The doors can also freeze shut in the winter, especially when there's been rain or ice, as there is not a cover preventing moisture from getting into the door jams. At least with the freezing, we can eventually warm the car up or heat it up from outside, but the other issue, apart from weather, is quite disconcerting. Sometimes the passenger has had to be let out by someone outside the car, sometimes they've just had to climb over the front seat to get out the front door. This seems extremely dangerous considering there could be an emergency situation where it is a life or death matter for passengers to be able to get out of the car quickly on their own. We have at times transported numerous college students back to their university from meetings, only to find when we arrived at their stop, they couldn't open their doors to get out. We even had Toyota supposedly "fix" them for a high fee, only to find the door issue getting worse and worse very soon after. What is worse is that many, many people and reports speak of the problems with these doors but Toyota doesn't seem to do anything about it. I fear they are waiting until people do die before they take care of the problem. As a mother, I worry every time we have our daughter or others in the back seat/s to go anywhere, as we fear the inability of them to be able to get out of the car in case of any kind of emergency, let alone just trying to get out under normal circumstances. This is the first I've seen anyplace to write a complaint aside from trying to get Toyota to take care of it. Also, the questions below do not allow for accurate, if any information. There is no one date when this happened for us. It happens very often, but the form fills in a date.

The Trac Control activated numerous times while diving forward on the highway and turning on country roads. It beeps about three times, activates the brakes on the left side of the car pulling you and then stops. The skid light activates on the dash while this is going on. Numerous same incidents are listed online. The brakes activate to one side while you are driving for not reason. I see a lot of people online that have the same issue. I am surprised this is not addressed and when you call the dealership they say it does not do that. That is not what the trac does. It does not activate braking.

HUSBAND PULLED INTO PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF A STORE, HE WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED IN THE SPOT AND BEFORE HE COULD PUT IN PARK IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FULL REV, HOPPED THE CURB AND HIT THE BUILDING. I WAS GOING APPROX. 2MPH AND THEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND WAS "COVERING" THE BRAKE AND SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND I TRIED TO BRAKE, BUT THE CAR SLAMMED INTO A PARKED CAR AND STILL DID NOT STOP. IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNTIL I ENDED UP IN THE STREET. I WAS TRYING TO BRAKE THE ENTIRE TIME, BUT THE CAR DID NOT STOP AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE GAS. WE LIVE ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET IN THE SUBURBS AND LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT. THE SIENNA AND THE PARKED CAR BOTH HAVE EXTENSIVE BODY DAMAGE.

THE SHIFT STICK WAS LOOSE AND WOULD MOVE IN ANY DIRECTION. IF THE CAR WAS DRIVING ON D AND SOMEONE WAS TO TAP THE STICK SHIFT SLIGHTLY UP OR DOWN, THE STICK WOULD MOVE EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND BRAKES WERE NOT PRESSED. ANY MAJOR BUMPS WOULD CAUSE THE SHIFT TO MOVE LOOSELY FROM ITS PROPER PLACE AS WELL.

I was pulling in my driveway when this incident happened. When exiting my vehicle and opening the driver side door this is what occurred. The driver side sliding door cable snapped and could have potentially hit the driver or me and which could have injured a body part especially the eye or hand. It also made a loud popping noise. There was no warning lights that this would happen and now the door will not open which causes a safety hazard because in case of an emergency this door may need to be opened to escape for safety reasons. Thank you for the investigation of this matter.

I HAVE STRUGGLED WITH HOW TO HANDLE THE FAILURE OF BOTH POWER DOORS ON MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN. THE DOORS FAIL TO OPEN AND DO NOT CLOSE WITH POWER WITHOUT PUSHING THEM CLOSED. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN YOU PUSH THE DOOR PAST THE CATCH POINT IT WILL NOT RETURN IF YOUR HAND IS IN THE WAY. WHEN IT WAS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED IT WOULD GO BACK IF YOUR HAND WAS IN THE DOOR. NOW IF IT GOES BEYOND THAT CATCH POINT IT LUNGES AND WILL CATCH YOUR HAND AND WILL NOT RELEASE. THE DOORS HAVE BAD HINGES AND CABLES WHICH TOYOTA REFUSES TO ADMIT ARE FAULTY. THEY OFFER AND EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR YOU KNOWING THAT THE 120,000 MILE LIMIT PUTS MOST OUT OF COVERAGE. THIS IS JUST ANOTHER GAME TO PUT OFF THE SAFETY OF THE CONSUMER. I HAVE A 17 YEAR OLD DOWNS CHILD. SHE GETS OUT OF THE VAN EVERY DAY AND HAS TO PUSH THE DOOR SHUT. SHE HAS TO USE TWO HANDS AND IT IS NOT SAFE. BRAKE FAILURE IN A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. I SEE OTHER REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM IN SIENNAS BASED ON AN ON-LINE GOOGLE SEARCH. THE PROBLEM, IN MY CASE, IS INTERMITTENT. BRAKE FAILURE HAS HAPPENED TWO TIMES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT INTERSECTIONS. ONCE TO MY WIFE AND ONCE TO ME. THE PEDAL DOES NOT GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR, BUT PRESSING HARD ON THE PEDAL IS INEFFECTIVE TO STOP THE CAR IN A NORMAL DISTANCE. I BOUGHT A NEW 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN IN JANUARY 2005. MY COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE BRAKES. EVERY 10,000 MILES THE BRAKES ARE COMPLETELY GRINDING METAL TO METAL AND THE ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I HAD JUST 12,000 ON MY CAR TOYOTA STATED THAT I NEEDED NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS. IT IS NOW 2010 AND I HAVE CHANGED THE ROTORS AT LEAST TWICE AND THE BRAKES STILL GO OUT APPROX. EVERY 10,000 MILES. THE TOYOTA REP HIMSELF TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE BRAKING PROBLEMS WITH THERE VANS AND THAT THE VAN IS TO HEAVY FOR THE SMALL BRAKING SYSTEM ON THESE VANS. THAT REVELATION CAME FROM THE TOYOTA SERVICE REP. I BELIEVE THERE IS BOTH A DANGER AND A DEFECT WITH THESE BRAKES ESPECIALLY IF THE VAN BRAKES CAN NOT SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE AND 7 PASSENGERS. I BELIEVE THE FACTS TODAY SHOW THAT TOYOTA KNEW ABOUT IT'S BRAKE AND PEDAL PROBLEMS AND NEVER DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT. SINCE 7/2019 TO NOW, 10/2019, I'VE HAD INTERMITTENT HARD BRAKE PEDAL. LETTING UP ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE VAN BEGINS TO STOP RIGHT AWAY. THERE'S NO RHYME OR REASON FOR THE HARD BRAKE PEDAL, ITS AFFECTING THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL, AND IT SMELLS BAD. THERE'S A VIBRATION AT TIMES, AND WOBBLE. AFTER THE VAN SITS FOR AN HOUR, THE BRAKES ARE FINE UNTIL NEXT TIME. TODAY, BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO PUT THE VAN IN REVERSE, AND LETTING OFF THE BRAKE, THE VAN WOULDN'T ROLL BACK. I HAD TO GIVE IT QUITE A BIT OF GAS TO GET IT TO MOVE. THE VAN DIDN'T WANT TO GO MORE THAN 10MPH IN A 35MPH ZONE. ALL OF THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE A NEW BRAKE BOOSTER WAS INSTALLED. I CAN DRIVE THE VAN JUST FINE, THEN SOMETIMES GET BACK IN THE VAN LATER, 1 TO 6 HOURS LATER, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD. IT OCCURS WHEN THE VAN HAS BEEN SITTING ALL NIGHT AND HALF THE NEXT DAY, OR IT CAN HAPPEN WHEN I'M DRIVING IT. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES ON MY 2005 SIENNA. NOBODY CAN FIGURE IT OUT.

WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH HIGHWAY SPEED AND CURVING GENTLY TO THE RIGHT, THE VSC SYSTEM ON THIS MINIVAN EVIDENTLY PICKED UP A FALSE INDICATION OF A SLIP IN THE VEHICLE'S TRACTION. THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO AUTOMATICALLY APPLY THE BRAKES ON THE LEFT SIDE, PULLING THE VAN'S DIRECTION FROM RIGHT TO LEFT, AND SLOW THE CAR QUICKLY FROM 55 TO 35 MPH, WITH VEHICLES BEHIND ME QUICKLY CLOSING IN ON THE REAR END. WITHIN SECONDS THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING CEASED AND I WAS ABLE TO REACCELERATE BACK TO NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING SPEED. THE ENGINE WAS NOT STALLED IN THE PROCESS.

I HAVE REPLACED 4 BRAND NEW TIRES, DONE THE ZERO-POINT-CALIBRATION, MECHANICS COULDN'T FIND CODES FOR THE ISSUES, THEY HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX THE PROBLEMS BUT IT JUST NEVER WORK. THE RADIATOR ON MY 2005 SIENNA DEVELOPED A CRACK ON THE PLASTIC END CAP AT 54,00 MILES. A THREE INCH CRACK. I HAD NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM DEVELOPING IT HAPPENED QUICKLY AND LEFT MY WIFE STRANDED. I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT IS NOT PART OF THE DRIVE TRAIN. THEREFORE THE 60,000 MILE WARRANTY DID NOT APPLY. A FRIEND TOLD ME THAT HIS 2005 SIENNA WAS COVERED BY AND EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE TOYOTA IDENTIFIED A PROBLEM WITH RADIATORS CRACKING. I SENT MY COMMENTS/COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA WHO, AS USUAL DENIED MY CLAIM. The contact stated that he continued to drive and exited the highway and parked to inspect the vehicle. The contact stated that he was informed by the Police Department 30 minutes later of the damages the sunroof had created. The contact stated that the driver of the other vehicle had multiple lacerations but did not seek medical attention at that time. A police report was filed. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where he was informed that the Webasto sunroof was an aftermarket part. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 11V042000 (Visibility) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle is being repaired. The contact called manufacturer Webasto and left them a voicemail but had not yet spoken to a representative. The failure mileage was approximately 186,000.

THE SPARE TIRE FROM OUR 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA FELL OFF AND WAS LOST DUE TO THE IDENTIFED DEFECT IN THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER CABLE. THE SPARE TIRE FELL OFF AFTER THE DEFECT HAD BEEN IDENTIFIED THROUGH A RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA, BUT BEFORE TOYOTA HAD A REMEDY FOR THE DEFECT. WHEN A REMEDY WAS IDENTIFIED, WE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR THE FIX BUT THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE ALREADY LOST SPARE TIRE. TOYOTA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING OUR SPARE TIRE DUE TO THIS IDENTIFIED DEFECT.

THE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000. 11/15/10 *CN THERE IS A LEVER THAT IS USE TO ADJUST THE ANGLE OF THE SEAT BACK, INCLUDING FOLDING FLAT. THERE IS A STRAP THAT CAN BE PULLED TO RELEASE THE SEAT ALLOWING THE ENTIRE SEAT TO TILT FORWARD IN ORDER TO BE REMOVED. THE PROBLEM IS, THE LEVER THAT ALLOWS THE SEAT BACK ADJUSTMENT CAN UNLOCK THE SEAT FROM THE FLOOR. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE SET BACK IS TILTED FORWARD 15 OR 20 DEGREES. THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS DRIVING, WHEN A DEER WALKED INTO THE ROAD. WHEN THE CONSUMERS WIFE APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE SEAT BEHIND HER TILTED FORWARD AND THE HEADREST STRUCK HER IN THE HEAD. A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, MY 2005 SIENNA'S VSC WARNING LIGHTS, ALARMS AND BRAKING WOULD COME ON WHILE GOING AROUND TURNS. MY CAR HAD NEW TIRES, WHEELS WERE BALANCED AND ALIGNED. IT'S SCARY AND DANGEROUS WHEN THE BRAKES ENGAGE. I'M NOT GOING AROUND SHARP TURNS AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED. DOZENS OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME EXPERIENCE, AND WHEN THE BRAKES ENGAGE, IT YANKS THE CAR HARD, AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENTS TO ME AND OTHERS. THIS HAPPENS TO ME ON A REGULAR BASIS. WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED ABOVE 25 MPH, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD WILL COME ON, IT WILL BEEP AND THE BRAKE WILL ENGAGE WITHOUT THE DRIVER PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL (THESE ALL HAPPEN AT THE SAME TIME). WHILE DRIVING AROUND CURVES WITH DRY PAVEMENT ON HIGHWAYS AND EXIT/ENTRANCE RAMPS AT HIGHWAY RATES OF SPEED (55-65 MILES PER HOUR OR LESS) THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGE,S CAUSING THE VAN TO PULSE AND SLOW DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY. IT DISENGAGES ONCE THE WHEEL STRAIGHTENS. WE FIRST TRIED TO TROUBLE SHOOT WITH OUR LOCAL MECHANIC WITH NO SUCCESS, PROMPTING US TO HAVE OUR LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT ATTEMPT TO DIAGNOSIS. INITIALLY THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM OR REPLICATE IT ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY (AS IT DOES NOT OCCUR ON EVERY CURVE ENCOUNTERED) AND WERE READY TO SEND US HOME WITHOUT ANY REMEDY. THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE. WITH OUR PERSISTENCE THEY HOOKED IT UP TO A COMPUTER AND DETERMINED(WITHOUT GUARANTEEING) IT WAS THE STEERING ANGEL SENSOR AND REPLACED IT. NOW WITHOUT RETURNING THE VAN TO US, THEY WANT US TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM FOR EVEN MORE COST, AGAIN, WITHOUT GUARANTEEING THIS WILL ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL ON MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE IS ACTIVATED SUDDENLY AND FOR NO REASON. IT HAS HAPPENED CHANGING LANES ON THE FREEWAY, ON OFF RAMPS, AND CITY STREETS. I WAS NEVER GOING OVER THE SPEED LIMIT, TURNING SHARPLY, AND THE ROAD WAS NOT WET OR SLIPPERY. THE ACTIVATION CAUSED MY CAR TO RAPIDLY DECELERATE FROM 50 MPH TO 20 MPH IN A MATTER OF SECONDS AND CAUSED MY WIFE, CHILDREN, AND I TO LURCH FORWARD. VSC ALSO CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO SWERVE SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT. I HAD IMMEDIATELY LOST CONTROL! THIS PUT ME AND MY FAMILY IN MORTAL DANGER ALONG WITH THE OCCUPANTS OF VEHICLES AROUND US. THEY WERE COMPLETELY UNPREPARED FOR MY SUDDEN AND UNWARRANTED STOP! THERE IS A FAULT IN THE GAS SENSOR WHICH GOES FROM THE PEDAL TO THE ENGINE. THE CAR FAILS TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, THEN SUDDENLY LEAPS FORWARD, THROWING THE OCCUPANTS BACK AGAINST THE SEATS. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND ENTERING A LEFT TURN CURVE, THE ABS AND VSC LIGHTS ACTIVATED AND THE VEHCLE LURCHED VIOLENTLY TO THE RIGHT THEN BACK TO THGE LEFT. I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AFTER A FEW SECONDS, BUT DURING THIS TIME TIME I WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE FACILITY. THE BRAKES AND STABILITY CONTROL WERE INSPECTED. THERE WERE NOT ANY TROUBLE CODES STORED. EXAMINATION OF THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS REVEALED THE RIGHT AND LEFT SENSORS WERE SEIZED IN THEIR MOUNTING BRACKETS. WE BELIEVE THE SENSORS HAVE RUSTED AND HAVE SWOLLEN. WE HAD THE ABS AND VSC SYSTEMS DISCONNECTED. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE THIS WAS DONE. WE ARE PLANNING ON REPLACING THESE SENSOR IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND NOTICED IT WAS A BIT SLUGGISH. THE NEXT THING I KNOW, THE BRAKE PEDAL IS ON THE FLOOR EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT PRESSING IT, AND THE CAR IS STILL MOVING. MY CAR HAS THE EXACT SYMPTOMS FOR A RECALL INVOLVING A CRANKSHAFT PULLEY, YET MY VIN IS APPARENTLY NOT INVOLVED WITH THAT RECALL. MY ENGINE MODEL 3MZ-FE IS INVOLVED WITH THE RECALL YET TOYOTA SERVICE DEALERSHIPS AND TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE BOTH SAY IT ISN'T. CURRENTLY MY CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE DEALERSHIP AND A FEE OF ROUGHLY $800 AWAITS ME. DURING INSPECTION AND REPAIR OF OTHER VEHICLE RECALLS, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY WAS SEVERELY LEAKING FLUIDS, THAT RADIATOR WAS LEAKING IN 3 PLACES, AND AIR CONDITIONING COILS HOSES\BRACKETS WERE CORRODED AND CRACKED DUE TO MANUFACTURER USING TWO DISSIMILAR METALS (SUCH AS STEEL BOLTS IN ALUMINUM ASSEMBLY) AND THEREBY REQUIRING IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT FOR SAFETY. WHILE LOOSENING THE 5-POINT HARNESS STRAPS ON OUR BRITAX FRONTIER CHILD RESTRAINT (A FORWARD FACING, HARNESSED COMBINATION SEAT), THE SHOULDER STRAP FOR THE CHILD'S LEFT SHOULDER CAME OFF THE HARNESS SPLITTER PLATE WHEN THE LEFT SIDE WAS TUGGED TO LOOSEN THE STRAPS. THIS WAS WHILE THE CHILD RESTRAINT WAS INSTALLED WITH THE VEHICLE SEATBELT USING THE LONG BELT PATH INSTALLATION METHOD IN OUR 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA AFTER APPROX. 3 MONTHS OF REGULAR USE. I WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM UPON UNINSTALLING THE CHILD RESTRAINT, BUT I AM AWARE OF OTHER FRONTIER OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WHEN LOOSENING THE STRAPS AND WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE IT WHILE INSTALLED IN THEIR VEHICLES OR UNINSTALLED. When driving on the highway, the van will suddenly brake and the steering will lock up for about 10 seconds. It is truly frightening. It has happened many times, even with the anti-lock button off. I love this vehicle otherwise, but cannot drive it for safety reasons. And I feel bad selling it to anyone else because I don't want anyone to die! The scariest part when it's on a windy 2 lane road. It really becomes non responsive and also the brakes come on when you are going 60+ miles an hour! HELP! I DONT WANT TO DIE

There was a very slight curve in the road and the ABS system engaged without warning resulting in the van power immediately decreasing and fishtailing. DT: CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE VEHICLE HAS SEVERE HESITATION, ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ON A WET ROAD OR ON A SNOWY ROAD. GAS PEDAL AND TRANSMISSION DO NOT SEEM TO CONNECT. NO CRASHES. NO POLICE REPORTS. NO FIRES. WHILE ON THE ROAD, INFREQUENTLY AS WE START HITTING CONTINUOUS CURVES, THE BEEPING STARTS WITH SLIP CONTROL SYMBOL COMING ON. THE BRAKES ENGAGE ON THEIR OWN. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER HOW FAST OR SLOW WE TAKE THE CURVES. I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE AT THAT POINT AND IT STARTS BRAKING ITSELF FOR FEW SECONDS. DASHBOARD WAS REPLACED IN A RECALL AND AFTER THE SERVICE WAS PERFORMED THE AIRBAG INFLATED LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH A SENSOR AND WAS NOT RELATED TO THE WORK THEY HAD PERFORMED, YET SAID IT NEEDED TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE FOR THAT AND FOR ANY OTHER WORK DONE AS A RESULT OF IT. HOW COULD THEY POSSIBLY KNOW IT'S UNRELATED TO THE WORK THEY PERFORMED IF THEY HAD NOT DONE THE DIAGNOSTIC AND IT HAD NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THEY WORKED ON IT?. THE CONSUMER STATED THE INCIDENT HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES, EACH TIME AS THE ROAD CURVED TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC. HOWEVER, HE WAS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM, EXCEPT FOR OVER-INFLATED TIRES. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE ABS CONTINUED TO ACTIVATE. POWER SLIDE DOOR PULLEY CABLE ASSEMBLY FAILED ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE WITH 84,000 MILES. THE CABLE SNAPPED AND RENDERS THE DOOR USELESS. PAULY TOYOTA DEALER (CRYSTAL LAKE, IL) DID NOT EVEN COME WITHIN 20 FEET OF THE VAN AND QUOTED ME $1600 TO REPAIR. THE CABLE OF THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR HAS SHOWS THAT THE PROTECTIVE CABLE COATING IS CRUMBLING AND THE CABLE IS RUSTING MAKING IT A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR CABLE SNAPS AS WELL. THIS IS A VERY POOR DESIGN THAT THE CABLE IS CONSTANTLY EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS AND PRONE TO RUSTING AND SNAPPING (THERE ARE A LOT OF POSTS ON THE INTERNET OF 2004 SIENNA OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM). THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR IS FALLING OFF OF MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA MINIVAN. TOYOTA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT IN 2005. THE PROBLEM 1ST APPEARED IN MY CAR IN MARCH 2007. THE FOLSOM LAKE TOYOTA DEALER REPAIRED MY VEHICLE BY SENDING IT OUT TO A WELDING COMPANY TO BE REPAIRED. I WAS PROVIDED WITH A RENTAL CAR AT NO CHARGE BY TOYOTA. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE DEFECT, AS STATED ON THE REPAIR SLIP IS AS FOLLOWS: "...FOUND DOOR DEFORMED AND WELD BROKEN INSIDE DOOR , 23 REPLACED DRIVERS DOOR CHECK, SUBLET TO BODY SHOP FOR REPAIR OF DOOR." I HAVE A COPY OF THIS ORIGINAL REPAIR FORM. THE 2ND TIME THIS DEFECT RE-APPEARED WAS ON JULY 8, 2010. I IMMEDIATELY REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO TOYOTA CORPORATE, WAS ASSIGNED CASE # 1007081422 AND WAS ADVISED BY THE TOYOTA CORPORATE REPRESENTATIVE THAT THE TOYOTA OF RICHMOND, INDIANA DEALER WOULD BE CALLING ME WITHIN 3 DAYS TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING MY CAR IN AND RECEIVE A FREE RENTAL UNTIL MY CAR'S DEFORMITIES WERE FIXED. THE DEALER FAILED TO RESPOND WITHIN 3 DAYS, AND I CALLED CORPORATE AGAIN ON 7-14-10 AND SPOKE WITH CATHERINE. SHE SENT ANOTHER REQUEST TO TOYOTA OF RICHMOND AND SAID THAT I WOULD HEAR FROM THE DEALER WITHIN 24 HRS. AGAIN, TOYOTA OF RICHMOND FAILED TO CONTACT ME. I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE MOMENTS AGO (7-16-10), AND JESSIE SAID THEY HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THEIR DEALERS FIXING TOYOTA DEFECTS AND THAT I SHOULD TRY TO CONTACT THEM MYSELF. TOYOTA HAS A LEGAL AND ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THEIR KNOWN DEFECTIVE PROBLEMS. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM ON MY VAN IS MALFUNCTIONING AND IT PUTS THE VEHICLE IN "FAIL SAFE" MODE. THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AS WELL AS TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE DO NOT WANT TO INVESTIGATE THIS RECURRING PROBLEM FOR THE DTC P0121. THE DEALERS DO NOT ANALYZE THE FREEZE FRAME DATA OR INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM BEYOND READING THE CODE FROM OBD II SCANNER. I HAD ASKED THEM FOR THE ELECTRICAL VALUES FOR THE THROTTLE VALVE MOTOR AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED THAT INFORMATION AND WANT ME TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY BY SPENDING $1200.00. THE FIRST TIME THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 50,000 MILES AND I REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY FROM SAME YEAR AND MODEL VEHICLE WITH 20,000 MILES. NOW AFTER 10,000 MILES SAME PROBLEM HAS STARTED AGAIN AND THE DEALER AS WELL AS TOYOTA WANT ME TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. I FEEL THAT THE THROTTLE BODY OR THE GAS PEDAL IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ARE CAUSING THE DTC CODE AND MERELY REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY SECOND TIME WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS THE NEWER THROTTLE BODIES ARE WITHOUT THE PROBLEM ORIGINAL THROTTLE BODIES HAD. IN THAT CASE I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT PART. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE PROBLEM IS INVESTIGATED AND IDENTIFIED BEFORE ANY PARTS ARE REPLACED. AFTER I READ THE ARTICLE ABOUT APPLE INC. CO-FOUNDER STEVE "WOZ" WOZNIAK'S EXPERIENCE ABOUT HIS 2010 PRIUS, I WAS RELIEVED SOMEWHAT FROM MY OWN DOUBT AND CONFUSION. I BOUGHT A USED 2005 SIENNA XLE LIMITED (WITH RADAR SENSOR) LAST NOVEMBER WITH 95000 MILEAGE. IT ACCELERATED UNINTENTIONALLY SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I WAS USING CRUISE CONTROL WITH ONLY SINGLE PUSH OF THE ACCELERATION HANDLE. I ONCE LET THE CAR WENT UP TO 90 MPH BEFORE I BRAKED IT OFF FROM THE CRUISE CONTROL MODE. THE ACCELERATION WAS VERY POWERFUL WHEN IT MALFUNCTIONED. ALL HAPPENED IN SEVERAL SECONDS. The rear hatch on our 2005 Toyota Sienna, after being opened, comes down almost immediately and can hit a person who is reaching into the back cargo area and cause injury. Other people have also reported this same dangerous malfunction online as far back as 2007.

The stickiness of the dashboard causes unwanted glare and reflections on the windshield, especially when driving in bright sunlight. This glare and reflection make it extremely challenging to maintain a clear and unobstructed view of the road ahead, leading to hazy and blurry vision. As you can imagine, this compromised visibility poses a significant safety risk for both my family and other road users. The dashboard was recalled by Toyota however the part was not available at first for many months and by the time I inquired again, the recall had already expired, leaving us without a viable solution.

I was driving on a dry road, going 70mph when my car began flashing the abs indicator and it began breaking and controlling my steering taking me into another lane. The car slowed my vehicle suddenly down to 60 mph and then went off like it never happened. I then had control. There was no reason for the car to do this. There was nothing in the road and luckily no one was to close to me or there would have been an accident. I almost over corrected due to the pulling of the steering and the breaking of the vehicle.

When driving my 2005 Toyota Sienna van tonight, the Traction Control System engaged suddenly on a slight turn at highway speeds, the ABS System automatically engaged and the van pulled to the right, I had to forcibly muscle the steering wheel to remain on the road, in addition to pulling to the right the ABS braking system suddenly and unexpectedly slowed me down from 55 to 30 mph and the alarm sounded. After stopping to check things out, I proceeded cautiously toward home, the same thing happened 2 more times, so I stopped and turned off the "Traction Control System" button. The same thing happened one more time even with the VSA button off. I got online at home and found that this is quite a common issue that Toyota is aware of. This put me and my family at risk and others at severe risk!This is a critical safety issue! Please tell me how to fix it. Many reports of dealerships ripping people off and not fixing the issue. Should be a simple recall fix.

Stability light comes on, decelerates independently, vehicle shakes and steering is somewhat compromised. This has happened rounding curves between 40-50 MPH. Has happened twice on straight road, 8/24 and 8/25/2021, traveling at 70MPH, vehicle decelerated 2-5 miles independently. I put signal on and did smooth lane change to the right to get out of fast lane, and stability light came on, vehicle shook and steering was somewhat compromised. Neither local mechanic or dealership can retrieve any codes with diagnostic equipment. Dealership told me today the light has to stay on for them to retrieve code. This has happened irregularly over the last 6-8 months but always on curves. It has occurred 4 times in 6 days last week, twice on curves, 8/23 & 8/28/2021, and the 2 lane changes above. I am concerned with the increased frequency. When driving the speed limit, going downhill, uphill, straight, around a curve, in the rain or dry weather, the vsc and slip/trac lights up, the abs system is activated / brakes engage. I loose complete control of the van. I can no longer steer or break. The breaks engage, but it causes the car to veer to the right. I have taken the car to the mechanic 5 times now and no codes show, even after he is able to the vehicle to repeat this behavior. It seems to happen a lot on off/on ramps. It happens mostly on highways, but it has happened on two lane roads. The vehicle is completely dangerous to drive. It has almost caused several accidents. I have replaced the Yaw sensors and had several alignments and this still happens. After a lot of research, we have found that this is actually really common in Toyota Sienna. People are saying that the bushings in the rack in pinion wear out and the entire rack and pinion system needs to be replaced. Some people have replaced the rack and pinion and claim that there is still a problem. But the majority say after the rack and pinion is replaced there is not further problems.

I'VE ONLY HAD THE VAN FOR 5 MONTHS AND THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED OVER A DOZEN TIMES, BEGINNING WITH THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. AND EVERY TIME THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED I'VE BEEN DRIVING ON DRY ROADS. IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING AROUND A CORNER, ANYWHERE FROM 35-65 MPH, FAR. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT STARTS BEEPING, THE BRAKES ENGAGE ON THEIR OWN, AND THEN ENGINE MAKES A LOUD NOISE (LIKELY DOWNSHIFTING ITSELF). IT'S AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE THINKS IT IS SLIPPING, EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT, I DRIVE VERY CAUTIOUSLY SO IT'S NOT ME FLYING AROUND A CORNER SUPER FAST, IT ALSO HAPPENS WHEN MY PARTNER DRIVES THE VAN AS WELL. I FINALLY TOOK THE VAN TO A MECHANIC AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR THAT WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, SO I SPENT $900 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. I'VE HAD THE VAN BACK FOR LESS THEN 2 WEEKS AND JUST TRIED TO TAKE IT ON A ROAD TRIP, GOT ABOUT AN HOUR FROM OUR HOUSE AND IT DID IT AGAIN 3 TIMES IN LESS THEN 15 MINUTES, AGAIN DRIVING ON DRY PAVEMENT AND WHEN DRIVING ON A WINDY HIGHWAY. THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IS ACTIVATING IMPROPERLY. THE VEHICLE'S ANTI-SLIP INDICATOR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES; AN ALARM SOUNDS; THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES; AND THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES LOSES POWER. THIS HAPPENS ON DRY ROADS, MOST COMMONLY EITHER GOING DOWNHILL OR ELSE ON A CURVE, EVEN A MILD ONE. THIS HAPPENS ABOVE 20 MPH. WHEN IT HAPPENS, THE COMBINATION OF ALERTS AND SENSATIONS ARE VERY STARTLING TO THE DRIVER, CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. IT HAS OCCURRED WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY. THIS WAS EXCEPTIONALLY DANGEROUS AS THE VEHICLE BEGAN LOSING POWER AND VEHICLES BEHIND US ALMOST HIT US FROM BEHIND AS WE WERE SLOWING INSTEAD OF INCREASING SPEED. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH NOT ONLY THIS VEHICLE BUT OTHER TOYOTAS. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED IN MY SIENNA AWD AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AT THE TOP OF A FREEWAY ON-RAMP IN A MAJOR CITY, AND REAR-ENDED BY A VEHICLE BEGINNING TO TRAVEL DOWN THE ON-RAMP AT AN UNKNOWN BUT HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND NOT HEEDING THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL. ON IMPACT, THE REAR CARGO COMPARTMENT OF MY SIENNA CRUSHED INWARD SO FAR THAT IT CAUSED THE THIRD ROW BENCH SEAT TO MOVE FORWARD AND PROPEL THE SEAT PART OF THE BENCH SEAT INTO THE BACKS OF THE SECOND ROW CAPTAIN'S CHAIRS IN FRONT OF IT. THIS WOULD HAVE CRUSHED THE LEGS AND MAYBE WHOLE BODY OF ANYONE SEATED IN THE OUTER TWO SEATS OF THE REAR BENCH SEAT, AND PERHAPS IN THE MIDDLE POSITION AS WELL. I FOUND A PIECE OF PAPER BAG CAUGHT BETWEEN THE BOTTOM SEAT EDGE OF THE BENCH SEAT AND THE BACK OF A CAPTAIN'S CHAIR, AND I COULD NOT PULL THAT PIECE OF PAPER FREE. I HAD TO PULL REALLY HARD TO REMOVE THE LARGE PACK OF TOILET TISSUE, SHOWN IN THE UPLOADED PHOTO, IN ORDER TO DISLODGE IT FROM THE REAR BENCH SEAT AREA. THE TISSUE PACK LIKELY IS NARROWER THAN THE TRUNK OF AN ADULT HUMAN BODY WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN CAUGHT THERE, WITH LEGS ALSO CRUSHED BY THE LOWER PORTION OF THE BENCH SEAT AS IT IMPACTED THE BACK OF THE CAPTAIN'S CHAIR IN FRONT OF IT. I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF THIS SAFETY PROBLEM IS A POOR DESIGN; INADEQUATE REAR-CRASH PROTECTION FOR THIRD-ROW PASSENGERS, WHO USUALLY ARE CHILDREN. AS A PARENT AND VEHICLE OWNER, I WAS NEVER WARNED ABOUT THE GREAT DANGER MY CHILDREN COULD BE IN IF THEY SEATED ANYWHERE ALONG THE THIRD-ROW BENCH SEAT DURING A REAR-END COLLISION. I'M TRAUMATIZED BY THE THOUGHT OF A CHILD OR ANYONE HAVING BEEN SEATED IN THE THIRD ROW AT THE TIME OF THIS COLLISION, WHICH FORTUNATELY THEY WERE NOT IN THIS INSTANCE.

THIS REPORT INCLUDES TWO SEPARATE SAFETY ISSUES. FIRST ISSUE: AFTER BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY ONTO MY STREET, MY CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO DRIVE GEAR FROM REVERSE. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER TURNING THE KEY OFF SINCE IT WAS STILL IN REVERSE, EVEN THOUGH THE LEVER WAS SHIFTED BACK TO PARK. THANKFULLY, I DON'T LIVE ON A BUSY STREET AND THERE HAPPENED TO BE A FEW LINEMEN DOING WORK THAT WERE ABLE TO PUSH THE VAN BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY. WITH TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND NOT BEING ABLE TO PUSH THE VAN ON MY OWN, THIS COULD'VE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN A BUSY LOCATION. AFTER DISASSEMBLING THE DASH, MY HUSBAND DISCOVERED THE MECHANISM IN THE GEAR SHIFT HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND WAS ABLE TO REPAIR IT HIMSELF INSTEAD OF TOWING IT TO A TOYOTA DEALER FOR PRICEY REPAIRS AND TOWING FEES. SECOND ISSUE: ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS (USUALLY, BUT NOT ALWAYS, WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO A HIGHWAY ON-RAMP) THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE, A REPETITIVE BEEPING WILL SOUND, AND THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES AND BECOMES DIFFICULT TO CONTROL SINCE IT FREEZES UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON DRY ROADS AND SMOOTH DRIVING CONDITIONS ONLY WHEN NO TRACTION CONTROL IS NEEDED. EACH TIME IS HAPPENS IT IS A STRESSFUL EXPERIENCE SINCE IT COULD BE LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT DUE TO LACK OF CONTROL. AFTER CALLING A TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER TO INQUIRE IF THERE ARE ANY KNOWN ISSUES OF THIS, THEY DENY IT. UPON DOING OUR OWN RESEARCH, WE WERE ABLE TO DISCOVER OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. WE ARE STILL DEBATING WHAT TO DO AND ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED IN TOYOTA. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BASED ON TOYOTA'S REPUTATION FOR QUALITY BUT HAVE FOUND THIS VEHICLE PARTICULARLY REPAIR PRONE. WHILE DRIVING ON 4 LANE HIGHWAY, I BEGAN TO SMELL BURNING RUBBER, THEN NOTICED THAT THE BATTERY DISCHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. FOUND THAT THE SERPENTINE BELT DRIVING THE ALTERNATOR AND COMPRESSOR HAD BEEN SHREDDED AND WAS HANGING TO THE GROUND. UPON A CLOSER LOOK, THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY HAD FAILED (IT HAD COME APART). IT APPEARED THAT THE OUTER RING HAD SEPARATED FROM THE RUBBER INNER RING OF THE PULLEY AND THE OUTER RING HAD BECOME MISALIGNED. THE MISALIGNMENT APPEARED TO HAVE CAUSED THE SERPENTINE BELT FAILURE. IT ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE TIMING BELT COVER, THE TIMING BELT AND THE POWER STEERING BELT. THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON BECAUSE OF THE FAILED SERPENTINE BELT. FORTUNATELY, I MAINTAINED POWER STEERING BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING BELT HAD NOT COMPLETELY FAILED WHEN I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE FAILURE SEEMS TO BE IDENTICAL TO THAT COVERED BY SAFETY RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V539000. HOWEVER, TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. THE ACCELERATOR STUCK ON THIS VAN AS I WAS PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE ON A RURAL, TWO LANE ROAD. AS SOON AS I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO PASS, I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. A/C WENT OUT APRIL 2012. BLOWS HOT AIR. ACCORDING TO ONLINE FORUMS THIS HAPPENS A LOT IN SIENNA'S - 2004 TO 2006 MODELS. WE HAVE 5 CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE AND CANNOT TAKE THEM VERY FAR EVEN WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN OR THEY COULD POSSIBLY GET HEATSTROKE. THEY ARE SWEATED WET BY THE TIME WE GET FROM POINT A TO POINT B. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT FRONT BRAKES WERE FINE. 1 MONTH LATER HAVING PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES STILL. TOOK IT TO PRIVATE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL THERE WAS NO POWER RESPONSE. WHEN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THIS COMPLAINT IS IN REGARD TO TOYOTA RECALL 08V-244, WHICH REPLACES THE STRUTS ON THE BACK DOOR HATCH. THE DEALERSHIP, FRED ANDERSON TOYOTA OF RALEIGH, INFORMED ME OF THE RECALL AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE STRUTS BE REPLACED. UNFORTUNATELY, ONCE THE NEW STRUTS WERE IN PLACE THE DOOR WOULD NO LONGER CLOSE PROPERLY. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE MOTOR WAS TOO WEAK TO WORK WITH THE NEW STRUTS AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A NEW MOTOR. I HAVE FOUND ON EDMONDS.COM THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IT IS EVIDENT THAT TOYOTA DID NOT CONSIDER THE IMPACT OF THE NEW STRUTS ON THE MOTOR. CONSUMERS SHOULD BE MADE AWARE THAT ALLOWING TOYOTA TO REPLACE THESE STRUTS PER THE RECALL WILL RENDER THE BACK DOOR INOPERABLE. TOYOTA SHOULD REVISE THIS RECALL SO THAT NEW STRUTS WILL BE USED THAT ACTUALLY WORK WITH THE EXISTING MOTOR OR INSTALLATION OF A NEW MOTOR THAT WILL WORK WITH THE NEW STRUTS SHOULD BE COVERED. AN ADDITIONAL SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT THE NEW STRUTS ARE TOO POWERFUL. THE BACK DOOR SHOOTS UP LIKE A ROCKET. THIS MAY BE CAUSED B/C THE EXISTING MOTOR IS TOO WEAK TO OFFER ANY RESISTANCE. VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED BY TOYOTA DEALERS.ON 8/29/09, I HAD REAR BRAKES REPLACED BY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WITH 77,410 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. 10 DAYS LATER, ON 9/8/09, MY ROOMMATE WAS PICKING UP CHILDREN AT SCHOOL. DRIVING ON A 4 LANE ROAD IN TOWN GOING 35-40MPH. TWO H.S. STUDENTS ABRUPTLY STOPPED IN HER LANE. MY ROOMMATE STATED SHE APPLIED BRAKES BUT COULD TELL VEHICLE WAS NOT STOPPING OR SLOWING. RAN INTO REAR END OF A TOYOTA TACOMA P/U WHICH IN TURN REAR-ENDED A HONDA CRV. NO INJURIES IN ANY INVOLVED VEHICLE. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE, MY SIENNA VAN WAS A TOTAL LOSS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. AT 25,000 MILES, THE SEAT BELTS ON THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES AND THE REAR MIDDLE SEAT STOPPED FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT IF THE SEAT BELTS WOULD NOT FAIL IN THEIR PRESENCE, NOTHING COULD BE DONE. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT FINALLY FAILED AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE SEAT BELT UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER REFUSED TO MAKE REPAIRS TO THE OTHER SEAT BELTS EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE SEAT BELTS WOULD NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTION IF A CRASH OCCURRED. THE VIN AND MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WERE INOPERABLE. THE KEYLESS ENTRY WOULD NOT OPERATE AND SHE COULD ONLY ENTER THE VEHICLE MANUALLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANIPULATE THE LOCK ENTRY IN ORDER TO ENTER AND EXIT THE VEHICLE BY HOLDING THE MANUAL LOCK IN PLACE WHILE CLOSING AND/OR OPENING THE DOOR. THE RADIATOR WAS ALSO IN NEED OF REPAIR. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE OVER 100,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA ON A DRY, STRAIGHT ROAD AT ABOUT 30 MPH AND FOR NO REASON THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) ENGAGED AND BROUGHT THE CAR TO A VIOLENT STOP. THE NOSE OF THE CAR CAME DOWN AND I COULD FEEL THE REAR OF THE VAN BEGIN TO LIFT OFF OF THE GROUND. IF I WAS TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED, I HAVE NO DOUBT THIS VAN WOULD HAVE FLIPPED OVER. I HAD TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER WHEN THIS OCCURRED AT LEAST TEN TIMES WHILE NOT DRIVING OVER 10 MPH. MY DEALER SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BUT I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS OWNERS ONLINE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. *JB

I HAVE RUN FLAT TIRES ON MY 2005 SIENNA (PURCHASED OCTOBER 2004). I ALSO BOUGHT A SET OF WINTER TIRES & RIMS) IN DECEMBER 2004 AND SINCE THEN I AM ALTERNATING THEM 6 MONTHS OF THE YEAR. HAVE CURRENTLY 21,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. THE DUNLOP TIRES ARE ALMOST WORN OUT, ALTHOUGH I PROBABLY PUT ON THEM MO MORE THAN 12-13,000 MILES. PART OF THE REASON I BELIEVE IS THAT WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR(EVEN WHEN I TEST DROVE IT) I NOTICED A ROUGH RIDE AND A PULL TO THE LEFT, BUT COULD NOT WAIT FOR THE DEALER TO ORDER ANOTHER CAR, SO I TOOK IT HOME (I BOUGHT IT FROM A DEALER OUT OF TOWN). ALSO I WAS BLAMING THE TIRE THREAD GEOMETRY FOR THE ROUGH RIDE, AND THE DEALERSHIP OFFERED ME TO CHANGE THE TIRES FOR THE CHEAPER ONES BRIDGESTONE, BUT I HAD TO PAY LIKE $80 FOR THE OPERATION, SO I DECIDED NOT TO. THE ROUGH DRIVE CONTINUED UNTIL I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS MISALIGNED. THE DID A FREE ALIGNMENT BUT THE CAR WOULD STILL PULL TO THE LEFT. THIS, I WAS TOLD, WAS NORMAL, SINCE THE TIRES HAD BEEN WORN UNEVENLY, SO NOW THEY HAD TO GET THE NORMAL WEAR AGAIN. NOW THE CAR NO LONGER PULLS, BUT THIS COMES A THE COST OF HAVING EXCESSIVELY WORN TIRES. I SEE THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNIQUE CASE. *NM

DT: BOTH SLIDING DOORS WILL NOT LOCK INTO PLACE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY STATED THIS WAS A SAFETY DESIGN . WHEN THE CONSUMER OPENED THE DOOR IT WILL NOT LOCK INTO PLACE. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED WHEN THE WINDOWS WERE OPENED ON THE DOOR IT WILL NOT LOCK INTO PLACE. THE CONSUMER DID TRY TO LEAVE THE WINDOWS UP, BUT THE DOOR STILL WILL NOT LOCK WHEN OPENED. I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE IN A PARKING LOT. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE, PLACE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE, LIFTED MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT MY FOOT EVEN TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT STOPPING THE VEHICLE. THE VAN STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT, WENT OVER THE CURB OF THE PARKING LOT, DOWN AN EMBANKMENT INTO A RAVINE AND HEADED TOWARDS A TREE. THE PASSENGER THAT WAS IN THE FRONT SEAT THEN REACHED OVER AND PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, WHICH BROUGHT THE CAR TO A STOP. THE WHOLE TIME THE CAR WAS MOVING I WAS TRYING TO STOP THE CAR BY PUMPING THE BRAKES, BUT THEY DID NOT WORK. THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING THE ENTIRE TIME UNTIL THE PASSENGER STOPPED IT BY SHIFTING INTO PARK. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE FRONT PASSENGER BUMPER AND SIDE OF THE CAR, THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE EXPLODED. AFTER THE ACCIDENT, THE BRAKES DID FUNCTION.

EVER SINCE THIS VEHICLE WAS BRAND NEW IT HAS CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT OCCASIONAL PROBLEM WITH BRAKE PEDAL BECOMING HARD, WITH LITTLE OR NO PLAY, NECESSITATING THE NEED TO PUSH VERY HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO AFFECT STOPPING. NORMALLY THE BRAKES ARE VERY GOOD. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY PARTICULAR CAUSE FOR THIS I.E. PADS BEING WET, ROAD SALT, ETC. IT ONLY OCCURS OCCASIONALLY AND SEEMS TO GO AWAY AFTER DRIVING FOR 20-30 MILES. WHEN IT DOES OCCUR THOUGH IT IS DIFFICULT TO STOP.
