MY VEHICLE HAS 138,000 MILES AND WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT FIXING THE SLIDING DOOR, I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL WAS OVER IN 2016; HOWEVER, I KNOW OF A PERSON THAT WAS ABLE TO HAVE HIS VEHICLE FIXED BY TOYOTA. IN FACT, TOYOTA REPLACE BOTH THE DOOR SLIDING COMPONENTS / LATCHES. FOR MY VEHICLE I TRIED GETTING TOYOTA TO FIX THIS LAST YEAR AND TRIED AGAIN TODAY BUT TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER THESE REPAIRS. I WANT IT DOCUMENTED THAT THIS VIN HAS NOT BEEN FIXED REGARDING THE SLIDING DOOR AND SHOULD A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE ARISE IN THE FUTURE DUE TO THESE DOORS, THIS WILL SERVER AS DOCUMENTATION. THE ISSUE BEGAN ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. THIS YEAR I HAD TO TAKE IT ON MYSELF TO TRY AND FIX THE ISSUE DUE TO TOYOTA NOT WILLING TO COVER THE COSTS. THE CABLE FOR THE SLIDING DOOR HAD FRAYED AND WHEN THE DOOR WAS MANUALLY OPENED, IT WOULD ONLY OPEN SOME BUT NOT FULLY. THE ROLLER LATCH FOR THIS DOOR ALSO APPEARS TO BE BENT AND NOW THE DOOR IS CLOSE TO HITTING THE SIDE PANEL WHEN OPENED; I HAD TO REMOVE THE CABLE COMPONENTS MYSELF TO ALLOW THE DOOR TO OPEN. I BELIEVE THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COSTS FOR HAVING BOTH DOORS MECHANISMS REPLACED IS $4,000 AND I CANNOT AFFORD THAT COSTS. IN 2016 I DO NOT RECOLLECT BEING INFORMED BY TOYOTA REGARDING THE SLIDING DOOR ISSUES AND NOW MY VEHICLE CANNOT BE REPAIRED FOR THAT SERVICE PROGRAM HAS EXPIRED.

BOTH MY POWER SLIDING DOORS HAVE FAILED WITHIN THE PAST WEEK, AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THEM. THEY DO NOT OPEN AT ALL BECAUSE THE CABLES ARE SNAGGED, AND THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, PASSENGERS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE SAFELY AND QUICKLY THROUGH THE LIFTGATE OR FRONT DOORS. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND FIX THEM AND NOT LEAVE SAFETY TO CHANCE.

WHEN I OPEN THE LIFT GATE FROM THE CONSOLE OR KEY FOB AND THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS ABOUT 32 DEGREES OR LESS THE LIFT GATE GOES UP THEN COMES RIGHT BACK DOWN. IF I REPEAT THE OPENING PROCESS SEVERAL TIMES IT FINALLY STAYS UP. I HAVE BEEN HIT SEVERAL TIME BY THE LIFT GATE WHEN I THOUGHT IT WAS OPEN, IT TAKES A LOT OF STRENGTH TO STOP IT ENOUGH TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. WHAT WOULD IT DO TO A CHILD? THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND IN PARK OR IF THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING AT ALL. IN MY GARAGE, PARKING LOTS, ETC, WHEREVER THE VEHICLE IS PARKED. THIS STARTED HAPPENING ABOUT 2011 AND CONTINUES GETTING WORSE EACH YEAR.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECENT FAILURES WERE NOT RELATED TO THE ORIGINAL RECALL, BUT THE CONTACT DISAGREED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT BACK TO THE DEALER. The head gasket that was repaired failed and the radiator system also failed. Im not sure if these issues are dealer related or manufacture related as i spoke to the previous owner and they stated they had the vehicle serviced at a manufacturer prior to doing a trade in with the dealer

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated while pulling into a grocery store, he heard an abnormal ticking sound. The contact stated upon parking and inspecting the outside of the vehicle, he noticed that engine oil was leaking onto the ground. Additionally, the oil dipstick was dry upon inspecting the oil level. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local Pep Boys where oil was added in the vehicle and the contact drove to his residence. However, the failure persisted while driving. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the exhaust cam gear had fractured, causing damage to the engine and other unnamed components. The dealer diagnosed that the engine, the exhaust cam gear, and the timing chain needed to be replaced, and additional unknown repairs were also needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown Toyota Extended Warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist due to the vehicle manufactured date. The failure mileage was approximately 204,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF ORLANDO (3575 VINELAND RD, ORLANDO, FL) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE CAMSHAFT WAS FAULTY AND THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE IN 2011 AND THE ENGINE WAS REBUILT. FURTHERMORE, IN 2016, THE CAMSHAFT WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

VVTI OIL LINE HAS LARGE HOLE ALL OF A SUDDEN, CAUSED VERY QUICK LOSS OF ALL OIL IN CAR. I WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY, AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR PULLED OVER AND STOPPED. IF I HAD BEEN IN A WORSE POSITION, IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED ENGINE SEIZURE. THERE IS A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN ON THIS, MY VEHICLE HAD IT REPLACED IN 2014, AND IT FAILED AGAIN BECAUSE THEY PUT THE SAME FAULTY PART WITH RUBBER HOSE CONNECTOR. IN 2010 THEY ACTUALLY RELEASED SAME ENGINE WITH AN ALL METAL OIL HOSE, BUT THATS NOT WHAT THEY REPLACED IT WITH ON THE TECHNICAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN.

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated at a high rate of speed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact desperately pressed on the brake pedal, but the vehicle would not slow down. The contact shifted the gear lever into neutral and the vehicle slowed down. The contact was able to pull over on the side of the road and shutoff the vehicle. The vehicle was restarted and operated normally. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 178,000.

The transmission shift cable broke during parking. Although the transmission shift lever was moved to the park position, the transmission was not placed in park. The first observation was the vehicle started to roll when the driver was loading the purchases at a store. The parking brake was then applied. Then the vehicle engine could not be started, regardless of where the shift lever was positioned. The vehicle was towed to an independent auto service provider. The provider identified the problem as the transmission still in the reverse position and replaced a $10 bushing on the transmission cable with a labor charge of $510.

I ATTEMPTED TO PUT MY VAN IN PARK TODAY AFTER DRIVING TO A RESTAURANT FOR LUNCH. THE SHIFT LEVER WILL GO TO ANY POSITION BUT THE DASH DISPLAY ONLY RESPONDS TO D OR 4. WHEN I PUT THE LEVER IN PARK AND TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VAN CONTINUED GOING FORWARD. IT WILL NOT GO TO PARK OR EVEN NEUTRAL. I PUT THE CAR IN A SAFE PARKING SPOT, PUT ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THAT IS WHERE IT STILL IS. I HAVEN'T TRIED TO RESTART IT OR DRIVE IT SINCE.

2008 SIENNA DASHBOARD CRACKING AND IS SHINY AND STICKY. THE SHININESS PRODUCES A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS PROBLEM STARTED A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE 10 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY OFFERED BY TOYOTA EXPIRED. TRIED CONTACTING TOYOTA AND REFUSED TO HELP.

THERE ARE ONLY 9,860 MILES BEING USED ON THESE TIRES FOR 65,000 MILE WARRANTY. THE UNKNOWN PROBLEMS MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE DESIGN OF THE VAN OR THE TIRES AND NEED TO BE FURTHER EXAMINED.

REPAIR COST IS ESTIMATED AT APPROXIMATELY $2,000. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ARE POSTED BY OTHER OWNERS ON THE INTERNET ALL POINTING TO THE SAME DEFECT. IF DRIVERS ARE UNAWARE, OR IF THE DEFECT IS NOT RESOLVED, POWER STEERING COULD FREEZE AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS. The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH, the spare tire hatch control cable snapped and dropped the spare tire onto the roadway. The vehicle rode over the spare tire on the passenger’s side rear wheel causing a jolt to the vehicle. The contact pulled off the road safely and determined that the vehicle was drivable. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. IN THE FALL OF 2014 MY SPARE TIRE WAS RELOCATED TO THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT OF MY VAN WHICH RENDERED THE AREA UNUSABLE FOR FOLDING THE REAR SEATS DOWN TO USE THAT AREA FOR TRANSPORTING LARGER ITEMS. I CHECKED WITH MY LOCAL DEALER REGARDING A PERMANENT SOLUTION/REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD NOT YET RECEIVED NOTICE OF AND/OR REPAIR PARTS FOR THE IDENTIFIED PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN AN UNREASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO WAIT TO REGAIN FULL USE OF MY MINIVAN.

MY PASSENGER SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR CABLE SNAPPED ON IT, WHEN I WENT TO OPEN IT MONTHS BACK, THE CABLE IS HANGING DOWN ON IT AND I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO USE MY POWER SLIDING DOOR IN MONTHS! IT SNAPPED ON ME WHEN IT WAS PARKED AND I HAD A LOAD OF GROCERIES I HIT THE POWER DOOR BUTTON AND I SAW SOMETHING FALL FROM THE WINDOW AND IT WOULDNT OPEN OR SHUT. I ACTUALLY HAVE TO HAVE THE INDOOR LIGHT SWITCH OFF BECAUSE THE DOOR WHEN I GO AROUND CORNERS LIGHT WILL COME ON THAT IT ISNT PROPERLY SHUT! ITS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT I CANT AFFORD TO FIX! IT HAPPENED AT 117,000 MILES BACK IN MAY 2018. I WAS TOLD IT WAS GOING TO BE $2,000! I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF A EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THESE SLIDING DOORS! NOW IM JUST PAST THE MILEAGE OF 120K AND 9 YEARS? I BOUGHT A TOYOTA MINIVAN IN 2008 FOR SAFETY FOR MY FAMILY. I LOVED THE POWER SLIDING DOOR WHEN I PICKED MY KIDS UP. THIS IS WRONG, MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND I NEVER GET A WARRANTY SLIP ON IT, AND IF I WOULDVE KNOWN WHEN IT BROKE, IT WOULDVE BEEN COVERED. BUT NOW ITS TOO LATE?! THATS NOT RIGHT!! THESE CABLES HAVE OBVIOUS DEFECTS, AND SHOULD ALL BE REPLACED WHEN THIS HAPPENS!!!

A CABLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OF MY TOYOTA 2008 SIENNA BROKE AND STARTED MAKING A STRANGE NOISE. I AM UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FULLY AND MY CHILDREN ARE UNABLE TO GET OUT ON THIS SIDE OF THE CAR - A SAFETY HAZARD.

MY TOYOTA SEINNA 2008 , HAS BEEN LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WHILE DRIVING....FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS IN 2016 MY SLIDING DOORS AND FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCK UP AND WILL NOT UNLOCK WITH MY REMOTE OR ANY OTHER WAY...I CAN UNLOCK THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WITH A KEY,BUT THERE IS NO WAY TO UNLOCK THE SLIDING DOORS...RECENTLY I HAD TWO FRIENDS RIDING WITH ME...WE GOT TO OUR DESTINATION AND I GOT OUT TRIED TO UNLOCK SLIDING DOORS WITH MY REMOTE,THEY DID NOT UNLOCK...MY FRIEND SITTING IN THE SECOND ROW SEATING COULD NOT GET OUT .SHE IS HANDICAPPED....I HAD TO CRAWL THROUGH THE REAR DOOR AND HELP HER UP OUT OF HER SEAT AND THEN CAREFULLY CRAWL ON THE FLOOR OF THE VAN TO THE REAR DOOR AND CLIMB OUT.THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY HAZARD AND CANNOT BE DISMISSED....SOMETIMES THE DOORS WILL UNLOCK AND SOMETIMES THEY WON'T .....SO WHEN I TAKE IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER IT ALWAYS SEEMS TO WORK FOR THEM......MY VAN RUNS WELL AND I HAVE NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH IT.I FEEL IF THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER CAN DESIGN COMPUTERIZED DOORS THEN THEY HAVE TO HAVE A WAY TO FIND AND FIX THE PROBLEM.MY FIRST THOUGHT IS,WHY DID THEY NOT DESIGN KEY ACCESS TO THESE SLIDING DOORS ? SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM.

DRIVER'S SIDE PASSENGER POWER SLIDING DOOR. CABLE BROKE. UNKNOWN CAUSE. APPEARS THE CABLE SNAPPED OFF WITH A CLEAN BREAK. THE POWER SLIDING DOOR IS NOT USEABLE AND NOT SAFE. BOUGHT THE VAN USED THIS APRIL 2016 WITH 54000 MILES PUT 7000 MORE MILES ON IT AND I HAVE NO WARRANTY AND LOOKING AT REPAIRS BETWEEN $1500 - $3000. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND PARKED IN DRIVEWAY WHEN CABLE BROKE. HEARD GRINDING SOUND AND INTERNAL PARTS FALLING TO THE BOTTOM INSIDE THE VAN AND THE IS DOOR BOUND SHUT WON'T OPEN AND NOT WORKING.

DEAR MADAME/SIR, I OWN A TOYOTA SIENNA (2008). THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR CABLE JUST GOT CUT-OFF LAST WEEK WHILE MY KID WAS TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR AND GET IN AND THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR MOVES VERY SLOWLY. I WENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER(S) AND THEY SAID THEY HAD A FIX AT NO COST ONLY FOR VEHICLES WHICH ARE 9 YEARS/120,000 MILES AND IF THE CUSTOMER CAME WITH A PROBLEM (NOT A RECALL) AND I DO NOT QUALIFY AS IT HAS BEEN 10 YEARS (HOW DID TOYOTA COME-UP WITH THIS NUMBER?). I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED A SIMILAR ISSUE AND LOOKS LIKE TOYOTA DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THEM EITHER. FROM THE DEALER I UNDERSTAND TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE OR DID NOT DO ENOUGH TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. SLIDING DOOR ON OUR 2008 SIENNA STOPPED OPENING OR CLOSING. WE CAN NOT GET IN OUR GET OUT OFF THE CAR ON DRIVER SIDE. WE ARE GLAD IT HAPPENED ON PARKED POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE DETAILS OF THE REPAIRS WERE UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLES PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR ALSO OPENED INDEPENDENTLY WHEN PARKED AND FAILED TO CLOSE. IN ADDITION, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR COULD BE OPENED MANUALLY WITH FORCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER DOOR CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH THE DRIVER SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR ALSO; HOWEVER, THE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED AT ALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.

WHEN DRIVING NORMALLY IN DRY CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL ENGAGES WHEN MAKING SLOW TURNS AT ABOUT 45 TO 55 MPH. IT HAPPENS MOSTLY WHEN STEERING TO THE RIGHT BUT CAN HAPPEN WHEN TURNING LEFT. THIS RESULTS IN DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS WHERE THE BRAKES UNEXPECTEDLY ENGAGE OR THE CAR DOWN SHIFTS TO A LOWER GEAR. IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED A WRECK AND HAS PLACED ME AND OTHERS IN DANGER. THE PROBLEM BEGAN ABOUT 2 TO 3 YEARS AGO AND HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAVE REPORTED SIMILAR ISSUES WITHOUT RESOLUTION BY TOYOTA, DEALERS OR AUTO REPAIR SHOPS. I AM ONLY ABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE BY REMOVING THE FUSE THAT CONTROLS THE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM. MY VSC AND SLIP DASHBOARD INDICATORS GO ON WHILE I DRIVE ON DRY ROAD AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 40-50 MPH. THE CAR THEN GIVES ME KICK BACK ON STEERING AND BRAKING, ALMOST AS IT LOSING CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. IT THEN GOES AWAY RANDOMLY. IT IS DIFFICULT TO REPLICATE THE SITUATION BUT IT TENDS TO OCCUR ON SPEEDS ABOVE 35MPH AND ON A CURVED ROAD STEERING.THIS HAS OCCURED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON REGULAR ROADS.

WHILE DRIVING, THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WARNING CAME ON WHEN THE ROADS WERE CLEAR AND DRY. ALSO, THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING STARTED GOING OFF WHEN MAKING TURNS ON CLEAR ROADS. WHENEVER WE TRAVELED THE HIGHWAY AND WERE MAKING A TURN AT GREATER THAN 35 MILES PER HOUR, THE WARNING SOUNDED AND THE BRAKES WENT OFF.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70MPH ON DRY ASPHALT ON A SUNNY DAY WHEN THE STABILITY CONTROL WARNING LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH RAPID BEEPING. WHAT WAS THE MOST CONCERNING WAS THAT THE BREAKS ACTIVATED TWICE CAUSING ME TO HAVE A NEAR PANIC ATTACK AND I DIDN'T THINK I HAD CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE BEEPING STOPPED AND I HAD FULL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AGAIN. THERE WAS NO APPARENT CAUSE FOR THESE SAFETY FEATURES TO HAVE BEEN ENGAGED AND NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY TIME IT HAS HAPPENED BUT IT WAS THE SCARIEST. THE OTHER TIMES HAVE BEEN AT SLOWER SPEEDS AND THE BRAKES DON'T ALWAYS ENGAGE. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS POSTS ONLINE DESCRIBING THE SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER SIENNAS AND IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE TOYOTA WANTS TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS ISSUE. *TR

WHEN WE GO ON CURVY ROADS, A CLICKING STARTS. IT SOUNDS AS IF IT IS COMING FROM UNDER THE DASH NEAR THE STEERING. ONCE THAT STARTS UP THE TRACTION CONTROL MALFUNCTIONS. THE WARNING ALARM COMES ON AND THE BRAKES ENGAGE ON THEIR OWN. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER HOW FAST OR SLOW WE TAKE THE CURVE. THIS STARTED ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE MECHANIC BUT HE CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE ROAD ARE MOSTLY STRAIGHT THERE AND THEY COULDN'T PHYSICALLY SEE ANYTHING WRONG. THE DRIVER'S SEATBELT HAS STARTED RELEASING ITSELF DURING MOTION; THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE. IN ADDITION, WHEN STATIONARY AND ABOUT TO DRIVE, WHEN I TRY TO LATCH THE SEATBELT IT HAS BECOME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE SEATBELT TO LATCH. IN ADDITION, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET OUT OF THE SEATBELT WHEN STOPPING DRIVING BECAUSE IT IS STUCK IN THE LATCH. THIS COMBINATION OF SELF-RELEASE, NON-LATCHING, AND BEING STUCK IS A SERIOUS DANGER HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BY TOYOTA. THE VEHICLE IS UNDRIVEABLE IN THIS CONDITION.

OUR TOYOTA SIENNA HAS 2 SEAT BELTS THAT WILL NO LONGER FUNCTION PROPERLY. WE CONTACTED TOYOTA (CASE# 1609160545) TOYOTA REFUSES TO STAND BEHIND THIS SAFETY RELATED FAILURE. THIS IS OUR FAMILIES MAIN TRANSPORTATION AND WE KEEP IT MAINTAINED. HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT A MAINTENANCE ISSUE. A VEHICLE MANUFACTURER HAS AN INCUMBENT DUTY TO DELIVER A PRODUCT THAT IS SAFE FOR CONSUMER USE. I FIND IT VERY CONCERNING TOYOTA FEELS IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO OFFER SEAT BELTS THAT WILL OPERATE PROPERLY FOR THE LIFE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS VEHICLE. WE HAVE SEATS WE CAN'T PUT OUR CHILDREN IN DUE TO THE FACT, THERE IS NO RESTRAINTS TO KEEP THEM SAFE. IT'S UNCONSCIONABLE.

TOOK TO DEALER TODAY FOR THE SPARE TIRE RECALL FIX (BEEN DRIVING AROUND WITH SPARE TIRE IN MY TRUNK UNABLE TO FOLD SEATS DOWN AND USE VAN AS NEEDED FOR ALMOST A YEAR) AND TO HAVE THE SEAT BELT REPAIRED THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY IS BROKEN THIS IS A $496.00 (PARTS AND LABOR) REPAIR.!!! MY LUG NUTS ARE SWOLLEN. THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA BECAUSE THEY USE A TWO PART LUG NUT DESIGN. WATER GETS BETWEEN THE TWO PARTS, SWELLS AND I CANNOT REMOVE MY TIRE. THANK GOODNESS I WAS NEAR A MECHANIC AND NOT 60 MILES NOWHERE. I COULD NOT GET THE WHEEL OFF THE CAR WITH MY CAR BASED TOOLS.

8/20/10 BOUGHT GOODYEAR ASSURANCE TIRES, 80K WARRANTY. 10/3/14 AT 65K TIRES WORN OUT EARLY, REPLACED TIRES WITH MICHELIN DEFENDER TIRES, 90K WARRANTY. 9/14/17 AT 48K TIRES WORN OUT EARLY, ALL 4 AT OUTER EDGE WAS 1 OR 2, BUT REST OF TREDS ARE 3 OR 4. ROTATED AND INFLATED TIRES PER REQUIREMENTS. MANY SIENNA OWNER ARE REPORTING THIS ISSUE. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS VAN DESIGN TO HAVE TIRES WEAR SO QUICKLY.

RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL #A9E A COUPLE YR.S AGO AND HAD THE RECOMMENDED REPAIR DONE ON THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER CABLE. THEN RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTIFICATION IN 10/15 THAT "THE ORIGINAL REMEDY PROCEDURE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ADEQUATE." INFORMED THAT THE NEW SAFETY RECALL #E0S NOW SUPERSEDES A9E. TOOK VAN TO DEALER FOR THIS REPAIR ON 10/19/15. AFTER MECHANIC BEGAN WORK HE CAME TO WRITER AND ASKED WHERE THE SPARE TIRE WAS. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE THERE WAS NO LONGER A SPARE TIRE UNDER THE VAN-WE HAVE NEVER HAD A NEED TO USE THE SPARE AND HAVE NO IDEA WHEN IT FELL OFF. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CABLE WAS BROKEN AND THAT A NEW WHEEL AND TIRE WOULD HAVE TO BE ORDERED AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS. CONTACT WAS MADE WITH THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER CENTER AND AFTER MANY PHONE CALLS AND FAILURE OF THEIR REPRESENTATIVES TO RETURN CALLS WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY UNDERSTOOD THAT THE LOSS OF THE TIRE WAS DUE TO THE FAULTY SPARE TIRE CARRIER CABLE BUT THAT THEY ARE ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE CABLE. IT SEEMS ABSURD THAT OUR SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS WAS COMPROMISED BY THE SPARE TIRE FALLING OFF AND ALL THE COMPANY ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR IS THE CARRIER CABLE. WE HAVE NOW ORDERED A NEW WHEEL AND TIRE COSTING $300 TO $400 AND HOPE THAT THE MOST RECENT "FIX" WORKS.

I WAS DRIVING ON CITY ROADS AND NOTICED CLUNKING NOISE IN RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BY TIRE ESPECIALLY WHEN I WOULD GO OVER UN SMOOTH ROADS OR RAILROAD TRACKS. PIECE OF BROKEN SUSPENSION COIL FLEW OUT ONTO THE ROAD. I WAS FORTUNATE IT DID NOT PUNCTURE THE TIRE. I TOOK INTO DEALER AND SHOWED THEM BROKEN PIECE AND FOUND THAT RIGHT REAR COIL WAS ALSO BROKEN BUT STILL INTACT. I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH COILS AT CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE. SINCE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER MAKING NOISE I HAD TO INSIST THEY LOOK AT IT AND WAS CHARGED $69 TO JUST EXAMINE IT. THEN OF COURSE THEY SAW WHAT AN UNSAFE SITUATION IT WAS. THE BROKEN COIL LOOKED RUSTED TO ME IN SPOTS LIKE ITS A MANIFACTURERS DEFECT.

WE SPEND AN HOUR FUSSING WITH THE DOOR AND FINALLY FORCED IT SHUT, AND DROVE THE 60 MILESHOME WITH FINGERS CROSSED AND 2 KIDS IN THE CAR, HOPING THAT WE HAVE NOT CAUSED A PROBLEM FORCING IT SHUT AND IT WOULD NOT FLY OPEN ON THE REST OF THE TRIP. USUALLY, THE PASSENGER CANNOT LET THEMSELF OUT, IT MUST BE OPENED BY SOMEONE USING THE HANDLE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. AT 53,2K MILES WE CAN NO LONGER MANAGE WITH THE MALFUNCTION. THERE ARE TWO WEEKS LEFT ON THE WARRANTY OF THE PREVIOUS REPAIR. DEALER STATES WE WILL NEED TO TAKE THE CAR TO A BODY SHOP FOR A RE-ALIGNMENT AT OUR OWN EXPENSE. NOT HAVING THE FUNDS TO DO SO,WE CONTINUE TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. FINALLY WE TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER FOR A SECOND OPINION. SURPRISE-THE LATCHES NEED TO BE REPLACED. The material used by Toyota to manufacture the dash is breaking down. Toyota is aware of this issue due to cracking and offered a limited extended warranty which I never received any notification (and many others did not per Toyota's chat forum). Cracking I can deal with. But now the material is continuing to break down and a thick sticky liquid is separating and rising to the surface creating a terrible sheen. When exposed to direct sunlight the visibility through the front windshield is dangerously low. The road basically disappears. I brought this to the attention of Toyota Brand Engagement Center on Nov. 10. 2023 (File #231110000552). I requested Toyota do the right thing, update their response policy, and authorize a dash replacement at a local Toyota dealership, but they refused based on the response policy they had established many years ago even after I explained the situation is not just cosmetic any longer. I explained the sudden loss of visibility and how incredibly dangerous and frightening it was, but they still refused to address the issue, so I am forced to bring this to your attention. Based on the Toyota's forum this is a widespread issue through several model years. Based on my experience I am confident there will be many accidents due to this manufacturing defect. Please investigate and request Toyota do the right thing to protect their customers.

I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA THAT IT WILL BE COVERED BY WARRANTY TILL 10 YEARS BUT FOR MY VEHICLE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA THEY SAY THAT IS A REGULAR WEAR AND TEAR AND SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED THEY WILL NOT COVER IT. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT CAUSES A SAFELY ISSUE DUE TO THE GLARING EFFECT WHILE DRIVING ON HOT SUNNY DAYS. THIS SHOULD BE MORE OF A RECALL THAN A REGULAR WEAR AND TARE, I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE WITH MY OTHER CAR THAT IS OLDER THAN MY TOYOTA SIENNA.

ON JULY 19, 2018 AFTERNOON, MY WIFE DROVE HER 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA HOME ON A LOCAL STREET IN GREAT BOSTON AREA, THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR SUDDENLY EXPLORED WHEN THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. SINCE THE WINDOWS WERE OPENED, BROKEN GLASSES FLEW INSIDE THE CAR AND SPREAD. FORTUNATELY, NO BODY SIT ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AND NOBODY WAS DIRECTLY HURT BY THE ACCIDENT, IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS SINCE MY 2-YEAR OLD SON SIT BEHIND HIS MOM. BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW FROM TOYOTA DEALER, THE SECOND YEAR WE NOTICED THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT OPEN DURING COLD DAYS WHEN YOU PULL THE HANDLE FROM THE OUTSIDE. WE TOOK IT IN TO GET INSPECTED, SERVICE MANAGER TOLD US EVERYTHING WAS FINE. BUT IT STILL EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS YEAR, WE NOTICED THE FRONT WINDSHIELD STARTED TO GET BLURRY. FIRST WE THOUGH THE WINDOW WAS DIRTY, SO WE TRIED TO CLEAN IT WITH WINDEX MANY TIMES, IT STILL THE SAME. SO NOTHING WE CAN DO. ESPECIALLY WHEN WE DRIVE FOR A LONG TIME, WE WILL FEELING DIZZY. I have had the traction control go on while driving on the highway even when I turn it off. Sometimes the VSC and TRAC OFF lights go on while driving. The roads are dry. Whenever I take it in to the mechanic, all the lights are off. They pulled a zero calibration code and recalibrated. It still kept happening. Then I was driving around a curve on highway speeds when the traction control light went on and the van suddenly braked on its own and I almost lost control. The tires are new and the roads were dry.

2008 Toyota Sienna. Driving down steep right turns, VSC light comes on, urgent beeping alarm and tires grip and grip vehicle brakes going 20-30+ mph on dry road. Very scary and dangerous, and has continues repeatedly over the past year on curvy right turns. Local mechanics don't know what is wrong with the vehicle. THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL WILL UNEXPECTEDLY ENGAGE IN INSTANCES WHERE IT SHOULDN'T ACTIVATE. THE MOST COMMON IS A LONG, SLIGHT CURVE ON AT FREEWAY SPEEDS ON DRY PAVEMENT. THE SECOND MOST COMMON SCENARIO IS ACCELERATING TO ENTER THE FREEWAY. WHEN VSC ENGAGES, THE VEHICLE WILL LURCH TO THE SIDE IT WAS ACTIVATED ON AND CURTAIL ANY ACCELERATION. THIS MAKES THE VEHICLE HARD TO CONTROL WHEN ON A FREEWAY CURVE AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY, CAUSING UNEXPECTED MOTION THAT IS A HAZARD TO REMAINING ON THE ROAD OR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT WITH OTHER VEHICLES. THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT THERE ARE MALFUNCTIONS IN ANY SYSTEM THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS TO OCCUR. NOTE: MILEAGE ON THE ODOMETER IS ~170,000 MILES.

ABOUT A FIVE YEARS AGO THE SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT (CAR WITH SWERVY LINES) STARTED COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE TURNING ON HIGHWAYS ETC. (BUT NOT WHEN ANY RISK OF TIRES SLIPPING). I BROUGHT IT TO TOYOTA THREE DIFFERENT TIMES OVER THE YEARS AND TOYOTA ALWAYS STATES THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE ISSUE AND STATES THEY CAN?T FIX IT BUT MAYBE DRIVE SLOWER (REALLY IT HAS NOTHING TO WITH MY SPEED AFTER YEARS OF DEALING WITH THIS ITS BEEN SOMETHING WE JUST DEAL WITH). THE VSC LIGHT ALSO COMES ON AND ALARM SOMETIMES SOUNDS WHILE DRIVING. TWO MORE TRIPS TO TOYOTA AND SEVERAL VISITS TO DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND NOBODY CAN FIND OUT THE PROBLEM. OUR VAN HAS ABOUT 150,000 MILES ON IT NOW ON 2020 BUT WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED IT ONLY HAD AROUND 110,000 MILES ON IT. THE TRACTION CONTROL, STABILITY, AND ABS ENGAGE IN TURNS (STEERING INPUT) RANGING FROM SPEEDS OF 25-55 MPH. IT HAPPENS ON FLAT SURFACES, INCLINES AND DECLINES. THE TURN RANGE FROM SHARP TURNS TO SLIGHT TURNS THAT THERE IS NO REDUCTION OF SPEED TO NAVIGATE THE TURN. WHEN IT OCCURS THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY DECELERATES AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE IN A TURN THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE UNTIL THERE IS NO STEERING INPUT. DEALERS AND MECHANICS CAN NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE. WHILE DRIVING THE VSC/ABS SYSTEM COMES ON UNEXPECTEDLY CAUSING VEHICLE TO BRAKE AND EFFECT STEERING. IT IS MOST FREQUENTLY NOTICED WHEN STEERING ON CURVES 30-40 MPH. I HAVE REPLACED TIRES, FRONT STEERING COMPONENTS AND DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE. I BELIEVE WHEEL SPEED/YAW SENSOR CALIBRATION IS AFFECTING THE VSC SYSTEM. EXTENDED SERVICE WARRANTY FROM TOYOTA "ZE2" HAD BEEN GIVEN TO TOYOTA DEALERS NATION WIDE BUT DESPITE DEALER SERVICE DONE IN JULY 2017 NO MENTION OF A PROBLEM MENTIONED. DEFECTIVE OIL COOLING HOSE RUPTURED SUDDENLY WHEN PARKED, SPILLING OIL IN GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT AND LEAVING THE FAMILY STRANDED. WE HAD TO TOW CAR TO CAPITOL TOYOTA IN SAN JOSE. THE CAR STARTED LEAKING OIL ON THE WAY TO THE GROCERY STORE AS EVIDENCED BY A TRAIL OF OIL LEADING UP TO PARKING LOT. THE CAR HAS NOW BEEN AT CAPITOL TOYOTA SINCE 7/17 (ABOUT 4 WEEKS) WITH NO ETA FOR NEW IMPROVED METAL REPLACEMENT HOSE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT CAPITOL TOYOTA ADMITTED THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT. APPARENTLY THE BETTER REPLACEMENT HOSE IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER, AGAIN WITH NO ETA, AND SO NO LINE OF SIGHT ON WHEN THE CAR WILL BE FIXED. IN THE MEAN TIME MY WIFE HAS NO CAR TO DRIVE, AND TOYOTA REFUSES TO SUPPLY A LOANER. I HAVE ESCALATED THIS WITH TOYOTA HEAD QUARTERS AND THEY ALSO WILL NOT PROVIDE A LOANER. THIS SITUATION IS VERY FRUSTRATING, AS THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER, AND NO TIMELINE FOR WHEN THE PART WILL COME IN AND REPAIR WILL BE DONE. THIS IS REGARDS TO MY 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA LE FWD 8 PASSENGER MINIVAN. ON 12/21/2014 MY VAN DROPPED DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY GUNBARRELL RD IN CHATTANOOGA TN. FOLLOWING UP WITH THE DIAGONOSTICS ON THE VEHICLE IT WAS DETECTED THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. SINCE I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE AS CERTIFIED USED FROM TOYOTA IN 03/2010 I WAS CONFIDENT THAT THIS PART IS COVERED BUT TO MY FRUSTRATION - TOYOTA SAID THE FUEL PUMP IS CLASSIFIED AS AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND UNFORTUNATELY OTHER THAN THEIR HYBRID MODELS IT IS NOT COVERED BY ANY TYPE WARRANTY. UPON RESEARCHING MULTIPLE WEBSITES, CHAT FORUMS, AND AMONG REGISTERED TOYOTA OWNERS IT CAME TO MY UNDERSTANDING/CONCLUSION THAT THE TOYOTA SIENNA MODELS FROM 2007 TO 2010 HAD NUMEROUS FUEL PUMP, PULLEYS, AND BRAKE DRUM ISSUES. THE VEHICLES AFFECTED HAD TOTAL MILES RANGING FROM 20K TO 130K. NEW VEHICLES WITH FAILING FUEL PUMPS AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY - SHOCKING. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT WITHOUT A FUEL PUMP NO VEHICLES CAN RUN AND IT IS VERY UNFORTUNATE TO SEE THAT AUTOMAKERS CLASSIFY IT AS AN ELECTRICAL ITEM AND THE NHTSA SADLE AGREES WITH IT. THIS REPAIR COSTED ME OVER $600 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. IF I WERE TO USE THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR PARTS AND SERVICE IT WOULD HAVE COSTED ME OVER $900 ( VIA 3 ESTIMATES FROM DEALERSHIPS) THROUGH THIS LETTER I AM KINDLY REQUESTING AN INVESTIGATION TO THE FUEL PUMP ISSUES FOR TOYOTA SIENNA FROM MODEL YEAR 2007 ONWARDS SO A PROPER WARRANTY COVERAGE, WARNINGS CAN BE PROVIDED TO REGISTERED OWNERS. *TR

PASSENGER DOOR ON OUR 2008 SIENNA MINIVAN WOULD NOT LATCH SHUT. NOTHING WAS JAMMED IN IT. WE PRESSED THE AUTOMATIC DOOR BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES AND FINALLY IT LATCHED. THE NEXT DAY IT WOULD NOT OPEN. YOU COULD HEAR THE MOTOR TRYING BUT IT WOULD NOT OPEN WHEN YOU PRESSED ANY BUTTONS OR MANUALLY. AGAIN WE PRESSED THE BUTTON MULTIPLE TIMES AND FINALLY IT MADE A POPPING NOISE AND RELEASED. THE DOOR OPENED A FEW INCHES AND NOW THE CABLE INSIDE WAS BROKEN AND HANGING DOWN. THE DOOR NO LONGER AUTOMATICALLY OPENS AND CLOSES AND THE CABLE IS STILL HANGING FROM THE DOOR. WE TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALER WITH AN AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR RECALL LETTER WE RECEIVED FROM TOYOTA. THE DEALER STATED THE PART THAT BROKE ON OUR VAN WAS NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL. UNLOCKED ALL OF THE DOORS USING REMOTE. OPENED DRIVER PASSENGER DOOR, AND PLACED GRANDDAUGHTER INTO CAR SEAT. CLOSED THE DOOR WITH THE KEY REMOTE INSIDE. THE SIENNA AUTOMATICALLY LOCKED ALL OF THE DOORS, AND I WAS UNABLE TO GET TO MY GRANDCHILD. ANOTHER KEY WAS QUICKLY FOUND TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. NO HARM DONE. IF THE OTHER KEY HADN'T BEEN FOUND, WE WOULD HAVE HAD TO WAIT FOR A LOCKSMITH TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. ESPECIALLY IN HOT WEATHER, THIS IS DANGEROUS. THE MANUAL DOES NOT MENTION THIS AUTOMATIC LOCKING, UNLESS A DOOR HASN'T BEEN OPENED AFTER UNLOCKING. OUR 2004 SIENNA XLE ELECTRIC SLIDING PASSENGER DOOR STOPPED WORKING 1 1/2 YEARS AGO. WE CAN MANUALLY OPEN/CLOSE IT, BUT IT IS VERY DIFFICULT BECAUSE THE MOTOR IS STILL CONNECTED AND RESISTS US MOVING IT. THE MOTOR MAY COMPLETE THE CLOSING PROCESS...YOU CAN HEAR IT WORKING. IF NOT SECURELY LATCHED SHUT IT WILL FLY OPEN AND CLOSE EVEN THOUGH IT IS SO DIFFICULT TO MANUALLY MOVE IT. WE HAVE HAD IT STUCK OPEN ONCE DURING THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. WHEN I BROUGHT IT UP TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD NEVER HAD ANYONE WITH AN ELECTRIC DOOR PROBLEM. I WENT HOME AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS. UNFORTUNATELY, WITH YOUNGER KIDS IT IS A PROBLEM DROPPING THEM/PICKING UP FROM SCHOOL BECAUSE THAT IS THE SIDE WE MUST USE TO FOLLOW SCHOOL PROCEDURE FOR SAFETY REASONS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WOULD COST $1500 TO FIX THE DOOR BECAUSE THE ENTIRE MOTOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED SINCE THE CABLE IS NOT A SEPARATE PIECE. WE ARE VERY FRUSTRATED. SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN TAKING THE VAN SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR OIL CHANGES, TIRES.... THEY SAID THEY SEE PEOPLE WITH THESE VANS HAVING ELECTRIC DOOR PROBLEMS QUITE OFTEN ON THE TOYOTA. I OWN A 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH 17000 MILES ON IT. RECENTLY WHILE LOADING UP THE FAMILY TO GO OUT, THE LEFT PASSENGER AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR WAS UNABLE TO BE CLOSED. I PROMPTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHO FIXED THE PROBLEM, SAYING ONE OF THE MECHANISMS IN THE DOOR UNIT NEEDED LUBRICATION. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY UNTIL LAST EVENING, WHEN THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE OUT TO DINNER. EVEN WHEN THE POWER DOOR WAS DISENGAGED, THE DOOR STILL WOULD NOT CLOSE. I HAD TROUBLE ACCELERATING UP A HILL AND STALLING AND TURNING OFF ON THE ROAD. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD THAT RODENTS OR SUCH TYPE HAD CHEWED ON THE ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS BECAUSE OF THE INSULATION MATERIALS ATTRACTIVENESS. AFTER BEEN FIRST OFFENDED, I THEN REMEMBERED SEEING A SQUIRREL NEAR THE VEHICLE I PRESUMED INNOCENTLY TAKING SHADE FROM THE HOT FLORIDA SUN. DURING THAT TIME I PARKED MY VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY OUTSIDE. I ADVISED THE DEALERSHIP OF THIS AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT INDEED SUCH ANIMAL WOULD LIKING HAVE CHEWED ON THE HARNESS WIRING CAUSING THE ISSUE AT HAND. I PAID OUT OF POCKET FOR THIS REPAIR SINCE I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF THIS TYPE OF ANIMAL AND THE ATTRACTION TO THE SOY BASED INSULATION AROUND THE ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS. AS REQUIRED ONE MUST HOLD THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER REMOTE ON TO TRY TO ACCEPT SIGNAL. AFTER ATTEMPTING THIS SEVERAL TIMES I STOPPED AND WAS JUST IN TIME TO NOTICE THE MOTOR OF GARAGE DOOR OPENER WAS OVERHEATING AND NEAR FIRE! FIRE DEPT WAS CALLED AND IT WAS ALL CHECKED OUT. IN FEAR OF FAULTY EQUIPMENT I TOOK STEPS TO REPLACE BOTH GARAGE DOOR MOTORS. AFTER NEW OPENERS WERE INSTALLED PROFESSIONAL INSTALLERS ATTEMPTED TO PROGRAM THE HOMELINK. IT FAILED ONCE AGAIN. WE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES AND EVEN TRIED TO PROGRAM OTHER BUTTONS. END RESULT WAS BUTTON 1 AND 2 OF HOMELINK ARE FAULTY AND 3 FINALLY PROGRAMMED. UPON INSPECTION (REQUIRING THE ENGINE TO BE PARTIALLY DISASSEMBLED) IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VVTI GEAR WAS COMING APART CAUSING DEBRIS TO SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE CAMSHAFT GEARS AND HOUSING ONLY FOR CAM BANK 1. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS MATERIAL QUALITY DEFECT AND TOYOTA'S ONLY STATEMENT IS "WE DON'T HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS". MY VAN IS 90 DAYS PAST THE 5 YEAR & 17,369 MILES OVER THE 60,000 WARRANTY. WE HAVE OWNED THE SIENNA FOR 4 YEARS AND 53,000 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENCE. WE HAVE HAD IT SERVICED BY THE TOYOTA DEALER AND HAVE HAD ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. ONE AFTERNOON, AFTER DRIVING THE SIENNA ALL DAY, WE PULLED IT INTO OUR DRIVEWAY (WHICH IS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE) AND PLACED IT INTO PARK. AFTER DOING THIS, INSTEAD OF THE BRAKES BEING APPLIED, THE SIENNA ROLLED BACK AS THOUGH IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. WE BROUGHT THE SIENNA TO THE TOYOTA DEALER WHO INSPECTED IT. THEY TOLD US THE PIN THAT ENABLES THE BRAKES UPON PLACING THE SIENNA IN PARK WAS COMPLETELY SHOT AND THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE HAS NEVER SEEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS BEFORE AND THAT THESE PINS DON'T WEAR OUT OVER TIME. THE SERVICE MANAGER ALSO TOLD US THAT YOU WOULD ONLY SEE DAMAGE TO THE PIN IF YOU WERE DRIVING THE CAR AND THEN SUDDENLY PUT IT INTO PARK WHILE MOVING AT A HIGH SPEED. THE SERVICE MANAGER CONTACTED THE OFFICES OF TOYOTA CORPORATE AND HAD THE CASE REVIEWED. THIS HAPPENED YESTERDAY JULY 10, 2010 SATURDAY IN THE REGIONAL PARKS PARKING LOT. SINCE IT'S UNPAVED SO THERE WAS ROCKS AND DIRT ON THE GROUND SO I WAS DRIVING EXTREMELY SLOW TO COME TO A STOP AT A SPOT TO PARK ' I WAS DRIVING WAY BELOW 5 MPH AND EVEN SLOWER WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO COME TO STOP ' AS I ALSO KNOW OUTSIDE OF THE WIRE FENCE, BEYOND THE NARROW ROAD, IT WAS A CLIFF WITH A SUBSTANTIAL DROP OF ELEVATION; AND I HAVE MY WHOLE FAMILY IN THE CAR. I WAS DRIVING A TOYOTA SIENNA MINI VAN WHICH I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER AND A BIG BELIEVER OF THE QUALITY. SATURDAY AFTERNOON I WAS DRIVING EAST ALONG LEE HIGHWAY IN ARLINGTON, VA (PROBABLY MOVING AT ABOUT 30 TO 35 MPH) WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN, AND I SLOWED AS I APPROACHED THE INTERSECTION WITH HARRISON STREET (WHICH IS A RATHER BUSY INTERSECTION). 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA ACCELERATION HESITATION THIS MINIVAN HESITATES FROM DRIVER ACCELERATION FOR 1-2 SECONDS INTERMITTENTLY AT VERY LOW SPEEDS. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM CAN BE REPRODUCED VERY EASILY BY MAKING A CORNER TURN AT LOW SPEED, AND INCREASING ACCELERATION AFTER THE TURN. THE MINIVAN WILL NOT RESPOND FOR 1-2 SECONDS BEFORE 'JUMPING' INTO THE ACCELERATION. THE BIGGEST SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS IS A LEFT TURN ACROSS AN ONCOMING LANE OF TRAFFIC (SIMILAR TO A CORNER TURN). I LEASED A TOYOTA SIENNA FROM KING TOYOTA IN DEERFIELD BEACH. IT IS AN XLE WITH LEATHER, SUNROOF, AND DVD PLAYER. I REQUESTED THE "FACTORY DVD" PLAYER AND SUNROOF, AND WAS TOLD I WAS GETTING ONE. WHEN I GOT HOME WITH THE CAR, I PUT THE DVD SCREEN DOWN, SAT IN THE FRONT SEAT, AND REALIZED THE MONITOR COMPLETELY OBSTRUCTED MY REAR VIEW WINDOW. I CANNOT SEE BEHIND ME BECAUSE THE SCREEN IS TOO LOW AND TOO LARGE. WHAT I LATER DISCOVERED WAS THAT THE "FACTORY" WAS ACTUALLY A FACTORY OWNED BY SOUTHEAST TOYOTA, AND NOT TOYOTA IN JAPAN. IN OTHERWORDS, IT IS THE EQUIVALENT OF AN AFTERMARKET SYSTEM. THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT WHEN SE TOYOTA INSTALLED THE DVD PLAYER AND SUNROOF, THE ACTUALLY LOWERED THE ROOF SO THAT IT FALLS BELOW THE INTERIOR DIMENSIONS THAT THE SIENNA WITH A MOONROOF IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE. Issues with VSC. The sensor alarm goes off when driving at more than 50 mph and slightly turning the steering wheel. The car brakes itself and this is DANGEROUS. It happens all the time, it has been more than 5-6 years and we are to the point of not using the car on the freeway to prevent a potential fatal accident. I found posts describing the same issue with this model of Toyota. Car should be recalled to get this fixed.

The Vehicle VSC Engaged multiple times even at low speed of 30 mph under the road speed limit. The brake applied and even the vehicle stop to respond to the acceleration. We have 3 little kids and old parents in this vehicle.Toyota should own this problem and fix it free of charge as a factory recall.

Driving on dry pavement in mountainous terrain the slip indicator light/sound activates temporarily and the brakes can engage by themselves! Usually happens during right turns. I've been to several automotive specialists for mechanical & electronic diagnosis. I've replaced the lower control arm & the clock spring behind the steering wheel but the issue persists. Online searches indicate this is a common problem with Toyota siennas that is extremely difficult to diagnose & very costly to replace all the possible problematic components! I've had this problem since buying the car used several months ago.This should be a recall issue!!!!!!!!!!!

IN COMPLETING A CPST COURSE, I'VE LEARNED THAT THIS PRACTICE COULD HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY INJURED OR KILLED MY CHILD IF WE HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN A WRECK. I PLAYED THEIR GAME FOR THREE TIMES AND I FOOLISHLY PAID 3 TIMES FOR THE STRUT INSTALLATION, PLUS OTHER DAMAGES THE FAULTY STRUTS CAUSED ME . MY WIFE WAS PARKING OUR 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH OUR 3 YOUNG BOYS IN THE AUTOMOBILE. SHE SLOWLY BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP; NEVER USING GAS, JUST COVERING AND TAPPING LIGHTLY ON THE BRAKE. ONCE THE AUTOMOBILE CAME TO A STOP MY WIFE PRESSED THE BRAKE A LITTLE MORE IN ORDER TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. AT THAT MOMENT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INCREDIBLE FAST, JUMPED OVER AN 8 INCH CONCRETE PARKING LOT DIVIDER AND CRASHED INTO A TREE ABOUT 10 - 15 FEET FROM THE CONCRETE DIVIDER. WE ARE CERTAIN THAT THIS WAS A "SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION" INCIDENT CAUSED BY SOME MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, PROGRAMMING OR OTHER DEFECT IN THE '08 SIENNA. THIS WAS NOT "DRIVER ERROR"! I AM PARAPLEGIC,MY MINIVAN IS MODIFIED WITH FOLDOUT RAMP- PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR FOR WHEELCHAIR AND THEN I TRANSFER INTO THE DRIVERS SEAT. ALL THE VAN HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACES WERE FILLED BUT IT WAS EARLY SO I PARKED IN A REGULAR SPACE WITH AN EMPTY SPACE NEXT TO IT SO I COULD GET OUT. FEW VAN ACCESSIBLE HANDICAPPED SPACES IS COMMON SO I USED REGULAR SPOTS BEFORE AS LONG AS SOMEONE WAS WITH ME WHO COULD BACK THE VAN UP FAR ENOUGH FOR THE RAMP TO DEPLOY. WHEN MY MOTHER,MY SISTER-IN-LAW,MY FRIEND,AND I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE A PICKUP TRUCK WAS PARKED NEXT TO US. MY SISTER-IN-LAW GOT IN THE VEHICLE TO BACK IT UP SO THE RAMP HAD ROOM TO COME OUT AS SHE HAD DONE OFTEN. WE STOOD BEHIND THE PICKUP TRUCK WAITING FOR HER TO BACK UP. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE FLEW BACKWARD SO FAST THAT BEFORE WE COULD YELL STOP MY VEHICLE HAD SLAMMED INTO THE SUV PARKED ACROSS THE AISLE SO HARD THAT IT PUSHED THE SUV INTO THE CAR PARKED IN FRONT OF IT IN THE NEXT ROW. MY SISTER-IN-LAW WAS COMPLETELY SHOCKED AS WERE WE, IT WAS SO FAST IT WAS ALMOST LIKE WATCHING A CARTOON. LAST JUNE 2012 I WAS BACKING MY VEHICLE IN MY HOME DRIVEWAY WHEN THE REAR HATCH WINDOW SUDDENLY EXPLODED, SHOWERING LARGE AND SMALL SHARDS OF GLASS OUTWARDS WITH ENOUGH FORCE THAT GLASS PARTICLES WERE FOUND APPROX. 15 FT. BEHIND THE VEHICLE! THE INSIDE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS FILLED WITH LARGE AND SMALL SHARDS, AND BROKEN AND HANGING GLASS WAS LEFT IN THE WINDOW FRAME. WHEN THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE TOYOTA DEALER, THEIR REP REPLIED THAT HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH AN EVENT OCCURRING WITH A TOYOTA, AND IMPLIED THAT I HAD BROKEN THE WINDOW BY ACCIDENT. ALL OF THE SUDDEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (2008 SIENNA LIMITED AWD) LAST TWO WEEK IT SUDDENLY STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 75 MPH. WITH NOT PRIOR SIGNS OF MALFUNCTION BEFORE THE INCIDENT. I TRIED TO START IT UP BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. (AUGUST 1, 680 SOUTH BOND AL COSTA BLVD IS WHERE MY CAR BROKE DOWN) SO WE TOWED THE CAR TO THE SUNNYVALE TOYOTA. THEY SAID THEY WOULD GIVE US A REPORT OF WHAT WENT WRONG . TURNS OUT THE FUEL PUMP DOESN'T WORK, AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHY BECAUSE IT IS A INDEPENDENT PART, I CONSULTED A PROFESSIONAL AUTO MECHANIC FOR A SECOND OPINION. HE SAID THAT IT USUALLY DOESN'T HAPPEN UNLESS YOUR CAR IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD. I CALLED THE TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS TO FILE A COMPLAINT BUT THEY SAID IT WASN'T A VERY "BIG" PROBLEM AND DIDN'T FOLLOW UP WITH ME AND SAID I HAVE TO CALL MY OWN DEALER ONLY. AND THAT IT WAS PERFECTLY SAFE FOR ME TO PULL OVER WITH THE LEFT OVER MOMENTUM. I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THEIR ANSWER AND I FOUND IT WEIRD THAT ITS BREAKING DOWN ALREADY. WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES AND 2 YEARS NEW. 1. ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON ALERTING US TO A PROBLEM (CHECK ENGINE, SERVICE ENGINE, ETC.). AFTER ALLEGED REPAIR, SPOUSE DROVE TO FAMILIES HOUSE APPROXIMATE 600 MILES AWAY AND FOUND A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF OIL HAD LEAKED FROM THE SYSTEM - OIL HAD BEEN CHANGED AS PART OF THE FIX. A SECOND DEALER, AT THE NEW LOCATION, "FIXED" WITH THE SAME HOSE AGAIN, WITH SIMILAR RESULTS, THOUGH MY SPOUSE ONLY DROP 120 MILES. SHE IS UNABLE TO CONTINUE THE TRIP HOME DUE TO THIS ISSUE. 2. AFTER TAKING TO DEALER, WAS TOLD THE VVT OIL LINE WAS A KNOWN FAULTY PART AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. WAS NOT A "FORMAL" RECALL, BUT WAS CONSIDERED AN INTERNAL RECALL TO TOYOTA THAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED FOR "FREE". BOTH DEALERSHIPS CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM, THOUGH THE ENGINE IS STILL LEAKING A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF OIL. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF DATA ON THE WEB THAT ADDRESSES THIS OIL LINE AND THE ASSOCIATED ISSUES. 3. PART WAS REPLACED, BUT WITH SAME TYPE (PART NUMBER, COMPOSITION, ETC.). BASICALLY, A "NEW" BAD PART WAS REPLACED. FURTHERMORE, THE FIRST DEALERSHIP INSTALLED VARIOUS GASKETS AND SEALS INCORRECTLY, AND STILL GAVE THE CAR A SAFE RATING FOR A 600 MILE TRIP. I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN. I HAD ONCE GOTTEN A FLAT TIRE ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO. I TRIED TO UNWIND MY SPARE TIRE FROM THE UNDERCARRIAGE UNSCREWING THE BOLT TO LOWER THE SPARE TIRE USING THE WINCH MECHANISM. ONCE THE SPARE WAS LOWERED I COULD NOT PULL THE WIRE BACK UP AGAIN. ONCE THE FLAT WAS REPAIRED I COULD NOT USE THE WINCH AGAIN TO PULL BACK MY SPARE TIRE TO THE ORIGINAL POSITION. I WENT AHEAD AND REPLACED THE WINCH MECHANISM ON MY OWN COST AFTER NOT GETTING ANY SUPPORT FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO HELP FIX IT OR REPEATED CALLS TO TOYOTA THAT REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEFECT. THEY CITIED THAT I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND NOW COULD DO NOTHING. NOW I AM HEARING THERE IS INDEED A PROBLEM WITH THE MECHANISM AND THERE IS A RECALL ON THE VAN. I PLACED A CALL TO THE DEALERSHIP IN TOWN THERE IS NO RESPONSE. WHILE THERE MAY HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS SITUATION THIS WAS AVOIDED I THINK BY PUTTING IN A THIRD PARTY WINCH MECHANISM ON MY OWN COST. WE BOUGHT A NEW-TO-US 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH A POWER OPERATED PASSENGER DOOR. WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF PURCHASE WE PARKED IN OUR CHURCH PARKING LOT (NOT ON AN OBVIOUS INCLINE) AND PUSHED THE INTERNAL BUTTON FOR THE POWER DOOR. I WENT TO TAKE MY CHILD OUT OF HER CAR SEAT AND THE DOOR AUTOMATICALLY CLOSED ON ME. IT TOOK ALL MY FORCE TO KEEP IT OPEN. I LET IT SHUT, THEN REOPENED IT AND IT WOULD NOT LATCH AND KEPT FORCIBLY SHUTTING. I LITERALLY PROPPED THE DOOR OPEN AGAINST ITS WILL TO CLOSE WHILE MY CHILD EXITED. MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN THAT THE DOOR SLAMS REALLY HARD AND THEN BOUNCES BACK. IF A CHILD HAPPENED TO BE LEANING OUT THE WINDOW THEY WOULD SUFFER SERIOUS INJURY BECAUSE OF THIS. NO ONE HAS BEEN INJURED THUS FAR, BUT THE SLAMMING CERTAINLY STARTLES EVERYONE! THIS HAPPENS EVEN IF THE WINDOW IS ONLY OPEN SLIGHTLY. ANOTHER DEFECT IS THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT ON THE DASH. IT STAYS LIT UP CONSTANTLY. AFTER ADDING AIR ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, I NOTICED THAT THE LIGHT COMES BACK ON IN JUST A COUPLE OF DAYS. I DISCUSSED THIS WITH THE DEALER AND HE SIMPLY STATED THAT TIRE PRESSURE CHANGES WITH THE TEMPERATURE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I WOULD NOT KNOW IF THE TIRES' INFLATION WAS REALLY OFF OR NOT. BOUGHT A 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE LIMITED WITH ALL THE OPTIONS ETC. THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM THAT WAS PART OF THE PACKAGE WITH OUR MODEL VAN WE BOUGHT STATES THAT IS COVERS ALL OF NORTH AMERICA. THERE IS A DVD THAT LOADS INTO THE NAV SYSTEM EACH TIME THE VAN IS STARTED, THESE MAPS INCLUDE ALL OF THE LOWER 48 STATES AND HAWAII AND EVEN INCLUDE CANADA. HOWEVER NOTHING IN ALASKA IS COVERED. I FEEL AS THOUGH WE WERE MISLEAD ABOUT THIS FEATURE AND HAVE TRIED CONTACTING TOYOTA DIRECTLY HOWEVER THE MAPS COVERED ON THE DVD IS A SOFTWARE PROGRAM THAT WAS PROVIDED TO TOYOTA BY A 3RD PARTY. IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO GET TOYOTA TO LISTEN?? RETURNED PHONE CALLS AND E-MAILS FROM TOYOTA SUGGEST THAT THE STATE OF ALASKA DOESN'T JUSTIFY THEIR COST IN PRODUCING A NEW DVD UPGRADE TO INCLUDE OUR STATE. WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VAN THIS WAS NOT CLEARLY STATED BY THE SALES MANAGER AND WE WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA WAS COMING OUT WITH A NEW DVD THAT WILL COVER ALASKA, BUT NOW IT'S OBVIOUS THEY HAVE NO INTENTIONS OF PROVIDING THIS. SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA APPEARS TO BE SHOWING A FASTER RATE OF SPEED FROM 3 DIFFERENT SPEED RADARS IN THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU. THERE IS A 2-3 SECOND DELAY, WITH THE MOVEMENT OF THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE. IT IS CLEAR, THAT ALL 3 RADARS SHOW A CONSISTENT PATTERN OF A 5 MILE VARIANCE. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM DID NOT MAKE APPROPRIATE VEHICLE CHECKS TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE REFERRED ME TO A LOCAL AUTO REPAIR WITH A DYNOMETER WHICH IS DEMANDING A $95.00 FEE TO CHECK THE SPEEDOMETER. A MR. KITAJIMA THE LOCAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR TOYOTA HAS IS REFUSING TO PAY FOR THE DYNOMETER CHECK AND IS INDICATING THAT THE RADAR READINGS ARE INACCURATE. ALL THREE RADARS COULD NOT BE DEFECTIVE AND COUPLED WITH THE FACT THAT I'VE ALSO CHECKED THE SPEED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE USING A CELL PHONE TO MONITOR THE SPEED WITH THE OTHER DRIVER. ALL OF THESE CHECKS, CLEARLY PROVE THAT THE SPEEDOMETER IS INACCURATE. AGAIN, THEY ALL SHOW A 5 MILE VARIANCE OF SPEED BETWEEN MY NEW TOYOTA SIENNA (2008) AND ALL RADARS AND OTHER VEHICLE CHECKS. *TR

TO CHANGE A TIRE THE FLOOR JACK WAS PLACED IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE A LITTLE TOO FAR TOWARD THE CENTER (FROM LEFT TO RIGHT) OF THE VEHICLE. THE PLACEMENT APPEARED TO BE AGAINST STEEL BUT IN REALITY THE MATERIAL WAS BLACK PLASTIC. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS LIFTED THE PLASTIC GAVE WAY AND DAMAGED THE FILLER PIPE TO THE FUEL TANK CAUSING FUEL TO BE DUMPED TO THE STATION DRIVE DURING THE REFUELING PROCESS. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE PLASTIC IS THERE TO PROTECT THE FUEL FILLER PIPE. THIS WOULD OCCUR EACH TIME REFUELING TAKES PLACE. THE CONSEQUENCES COULD BE GRAVE! A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF FUEL WAS SPILLED BECAUSE THE SLOPE OF THE DRIVE WAS AWAY FROM THE OPERATORS VIEW. REPLACEMENT OF PARTS WILL CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE REQUESTED THE OLD PARTS BE RETURNED TO ME.
