TAKATA RECALL WESTBURY TOYOTA HAS A 2011 SIENNA LE IN SILVER ON SALE ON THEIR LOT. I ADDRESSED THEM VIA EMAIL ABOUT MY CONCERNS ON RECALLS SPECIFICALLY THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. WHEN I ENTERED THE VIN ON THE NHYSA WEBSITE IT SHOWED ONE RECALL 1/9/2019 FOR AIRBAG BUT NO OFFICIAL RECALL NUMBER ASSIGNED TO IT YET. AS SOON AS I EMAILED THEM BACK AT NIGHT AROUND 9 PM I NOTICED THE RECALL NOTICE HAD DISAPPEARED. THE CARFAX ALSO SHOWS 1/24/2019 THAT MANUFACTURE MAINTENANCE WAS CONDUCTED. SO ALL OF A SUDDEN AT 9:30 PM THEY MAGICALLY FIXED THE AIRBAGS!? I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE LEGITIMACY OF THE FIX THEY CONDUCTED AND AFRAID SOMEONE MIGHT GET INJURED SHOULD THEY BUY THIS VEHICLE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE OR REACH OUT TO THEM.

The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated while parked on a slight hill, her granddaughter opened the power sliding door to enter the vehicle however, the door did not latch or lock in place, causing the door to close independently while her granddaughter was entering the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer but was previously repaired under a Toyota Customer Support Program where two hinges for the power sliding door were replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

I have a Toyota Sienna 2011 XLE for 4 years and both doors stops randomly when opening and closing. My daughter was stuck in the car at least 10 times. She afraid to use the car because she repeatedly in danger of falling, the beep sound comes and the door stops suddenly. I used to drove my car leaving my door open once, because the door stuck and I couldn’t realize till I drove. I was lucky, my door didn't hit anyone or any car in the parking lot. The people were looking at my car with scary eyes. Obviously, It creates a safety risk for my family and the people around me. Because a lot of people have the same door problem, I informed Toyota. They responded, they have an extended coverage for the Power Sliding Door Cable Sub-Assembly but it’s expired on 09/16/2021. They know the problem and solved it temporarily without informing the owners and now they said, it’s over, you need to pay it. I am not asking for my seat covers replaced. It’s definitely a security issue, a suddenly stuck door can harm/kill passengers and people around. Toyota knows the problem but refuses to solve it. I don’t want to drive this car with knowing the risk of hurting anyone especially my 6 years old daughter. It’s so shame one of the biggest companies of the world produces risky cars and they continue to sell them with knowing. They shouldn’t risk the people in United States easily like that.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified however, no further assistance was provided. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V858000 (Structure). The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.

Rear ac system the line is too close to the rear tire which was replaced once yet it is so close it gets friction and wears a hole in the line . Dangerous for people in the rear that may be inhaling a/c vapor while ac is running with a leak . Also bad for environment. There is no clearance the tire is almost right on the line so when you hit a bump you are rubbing it . Repair man says he has had to repair several lines more than once because of them being placed too close to the rear tire . Date below is third time this happened same vehicle. First was in 2016 second was 2018

Sliding door does not open or close automatically. I think there was a recall for this issue

My passenger side sliding door began to jerk when closing with power button. The next day the cable completely snapped and it no longer opens at all. My driver side sliding door constantly opens and sometimes does not stay closed. I can hear the lock roll and it automatically unlocks itself. There was previously a recall on these doors completed I'm afraid I still have defective parts.

Left sliding door cable was snapped while tried to open the door itself . I got out of the van then took a close look at door . After saw what happen to door then realized it was cable that got jammed in the door end up ripping the cable . I had to do manual way of opening the sliding door .

TAKATA RECALL. I RECEIVED NOTICE IN LATE JULY 2016 ABOUT THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. DUE TO TRAVEL, IT WAS A FEW WEEKS BEFORE I COULD TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALER. I WAS OFFERED A TOYOTA CAMRY AS A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE, BUT I REQUESTED FROM TOYOTA USA, AND RECEIVED, AUTHORIZATION TO RENT A MINIVAN THROUGH ENTERPRISE. I PICKED UP THAT VEHICLE MID AUGUST 2016. IN NOVEMBER 2016 I RECEIVED NOTICE THAT MY VAN ALSO HAD A SLIDING DOOR RECALL. I INITIALLY STORED MY VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP, BUT WAS TOLD TO MOVE IT TO MY HOME IN LATE DECEMBER 2016. IT IS NOW LATE JUNE 2017 AND I HAVE HEARD NOTHING ABOUT EITHER OF THESE RECALLS. THE SAFERCARS.GOV WEBSITE SAYS THERE IS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE FOR EITHER RECALL YET. ALMOST 11 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN WAITING ON THE AIRBAG RECALL, AND 7 MONTHS ON THE SLIDING DOOR RECALL. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE WAITING TIME. YES, I HAVE A RENTAL CAR AVAILABLE TO ME, FOR WHICH I'M GRATEFUL, BUT IN THE MEANTIME MY OWN CAR IS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY, UNDRIVEN, AND BASICALLY ROTTING. rear differential has very scary noise while driving, mechanic identified that we have to replace the rear differential which might cost $2500 to $3000 the same problem do exist on RAV4 and it's under recalls, while many people have the same problem for the same year like mine 2011 Toyota sienna AWD and other years to 2018 . This issue is the manufacture responsibility not the owner of the car as wear and tear items " my van has about 126,000 miles on it. Please a recall should be issued it is across for many people

Loud Noise from the rear end, diagnosed to be a viscous coupler bearing malfunction by my mechanic. Total cost of repair is 2428 Dollars. In doing my research into this matter, this is a very common issue with my model Sienna. It is also common with same year Rav4 which a TSB was issued and covered by Toyota T-SB-0080-13. To cite a transmission mechanics who have experiences with the Rav4/Sienna rear differential issues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1vg2sbYL68 I hope you can help, this is a very large cost which is almost the price of the car in total. My family needs this car as we do not live in a city with very little public transportation available to us for utilize. The price of the repair will be a hardship on our family. About two weeks after getting all new tires installed at Costco, the driver side rear tire blew out. I was driving about 50 MPH on a dry road with no debris in sight. The blowout gash was in the middle of the tire, not on the sidewall.

LESS THAN A YEAR PIRELLI SCORPION VERDE ALL SEASON PLUS 235/50/R19 TIRES FRONT TIRES SUDDENLY LOSES AIR IN THE FREEWAY. IT HAPPEN IN TWO OCCASIONS, FIRST ON THE LEFT AND THEN RIGHT SIDE AFTER ONE WEEK OF DRIVING. THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPEN JULY 15, 2017 CAUSING A REPLACEMENT OF THE TIRE. THE SECOND JULY 30,2017 STILL WAITING FROM PIRELLI IF THAT BATCH OF TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE.

WE PURCHASED OUR SIENNA FEB 2015 FROM A DEALER. IN MAY 2016 WE WERE INFORMED OUR TIRES HAD WORN ON THE INSIDE AND THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND AN ALIGNMENT NEEDED TO BE DONE. WE DID BOTH AS RECOMMENDED. IN SEPTEMBER 2016 WE WERE TOLD THAT OUR TIRES WERE FEATHERING DUE TO AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE, SO AGAIN THE VAN AS ALIGNED. THE TIRES ARE BALANCED AND ROTATED PER THE RECOMMENDED TIME FRAME. I TOOK MY VAN IN JUNE 2017 TO THE DEALER TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE DONE AND WAS INFORMED THAT I WILL NEED NEW TIRES SOON. THESE ARE MICHELIN TIRES WHICH ARE 60,000 TIRES. THEY CURRENTLY HAVE 25,859 MILES ON THEM. THE TIRES MEASURED 4/32, 5/32, 5/32, AND 5/32. I HAVE HAD ANOTHER ALIGNMENT DONE IN JUNE. WE ARE NOW LOOKING INTO ANOTHER SET OF TIRES SINCE WE WILL BE MOVING NEXT YEAR AND HAVE LITTLE ONES IN THE CAR TO KEEP SAFE. I HAVE READ SO MANY FORUMS THAT STATE THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WE ARE HAVING. THAT THE TOYOTA SIENNA EATS THROUGH TIRES. I WAS VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE DEALER SHIP WHEN I QUESTIONED THEM WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. I WAS BASICALLY TOLD I HIT POT HOLES AND HAVE THROWN THE ALIGNMENT OUT OF WHACK AND IS CAUSING THE ISSUES. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO FIX THIS! HAVING TO PURCHASE NEW TIRES WHEN THEY HAVEN'T EVEN GONE THROUGH HALF THE MILES THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.

RECENTLY STARTED HAVING THIS ISSUE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN CHANGING LANES MY DOOR OPEN INDICATOR LIGHT AS WELL AS THE EXCLAMATION INSIDE THE TRIANGLE WILL ILLUMINATE ON MY DASH, A BEEPING SOUND STARTS CHIMING AND ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS COME ON. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT 15 TIMES IN A 20 MINUTE PERIOD. ITS VERY AGGRAVATING AND DISTRACTING. IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND DOES IT ON SIDE STREETS AND LOWER SPEEDS AS WELL NOW. I HAVE DONE SOME TROUBLE SHOOTING OF MY OWN AND REALIZE THAT IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I HAVE A WINDOW CRACKED OR DOWN. IF THE WINDOWS ARE UP IT WILL ALSO HAPPEN WITH SHARP TURNS ENDING WITH ABRUPT BRAKING. I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER 3 TIMES IN A 4 MONTH PERIOD BECAUSE OF THE LIGHTS GOING ON AND OFF. POLICE SEEM TO THINK I'M SENDING SOME TYPE OF CODE FOR THEM TO HELP ME! IT IS RIDICULOUS. SIENNA 2011 LE DEVELOPED PROBLEM WITH THE SLIDING DOOR AFTER 5 YEARS OF USED AND A ABOUT 60K MILES, AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE LH SLIDING DOOR WORKS SOMETIMES, BUT MOSTLY OPENS HALF WAY AND GET STUCK OR CLOSES AGAIN. I HAVE TO PUSH IT MANUALLY TO GET IT TO OPEN OR CLOSE. THIS PROBLEM SEAMS TO BE PREVALENT IN SIENNA MODELS 2011+. TOYOTA HAS RECALLED MY SIENNA MODEL MULTIPLE TIMES TO ADDRESS MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE SLIDING DOORS. A TOYOTA DEALER SAID THE MOTOR NEEDS CHANGING AND THE REPAIR WILL COST ABOUT 1800 (ABOUT 1300 FOR A NEW MOTOR.) I AM SURE THE MOTOR FAILED BECAUSE OF THESE MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE SLIDING DOOR MECHANISMS PUT UNDUE STRESS ON THE MOTOR LEADING TO ITS FAILURE. THEREFORE, TOYOTA SHOULD OWN THIS PROBLEM AND FIX IT WITHOUT CHARGE. THE DEALER FOUND A USED MOTOR FOR 700 FROM LKQ. I FOUND A NEW MOTOR (PART NO 8500608013) FOR ABOUT 760 FROM ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER ONLINE. USING THESE OPTIONS, I WILL STILL HAVE TO PAY ABOUT 1400-1500 TO FIX A DOOR THAT SHOULD WORK FINE LONGER THAN 5 YEARS.

Driving down highway noticed white smoke coming from car. Exited highway and warning light then came on saying engine oil low. Stopped van immediately on side of the road and had it towed. Appears the oil coolant line burst which is a known issue on these vehicles after google searching, but was never made aware. Always completed all recalls. Extremely dangerous especially with children in car.

Power steering light came on while driving causing the steering system to lose power suddenly. Almost got into an accident because I couldn't effectively turn the wheel. Mechanic inspected and found the steering motor was bad and that CPU needed to be replaced costing almost $4000 in repairs. Now my car is not driveable unless this is fixed. Car has only 140k miles. This is a VERY common problem with Toyota Siennas around these model years

8/27/21 Friday, 5:30PM The steering wheel tightened up, making it extremely hard to maneuver, while the vehicle was in motion. Almost got into an accident when I couldn't turn in time to avoid drifting into adjacent lane. Brought it to my local dealer and they claimed the motor failed, needed to be replaced and since it's attached to the steering column and shaft, I would need to replace the complete system, $4600 before NYS tax, which means it will cost me over $5000 before I can get my vehicle back. The vehicle has not been inspected by any other entity or agency. The issue happened on Thursday night, 8/26/21, very suddenly, as I was pulling out of a parking space, suddenly the steering got really hard, almost hit another vehicle as I pulled out, then the steering wheel light came on as I was avoiding the other vehicle. 8/27/21, Friday, this morning, I dropped off the vehicle dropped off with the dealer's service dept. My service adviser called me this afternoon, about 2 hours ago, and gave me this bad news. I checked online and found other owners of the Sienna model having the same exact issues. Also found out other Toyotas models with same issues had recalls over the years, only the Sienna was never recalled. This is too dangerous an issue not to be recalled by Toyota. I can't afford to get this fixed, what am I to do? The steering wheel is too lose. Even with all the full suspension replace. It not safe at all. It need to recall the steering shaft , and the rack and pinion. Some time it feel hard, sometimes it very loose, uncontrollable. Please recall the steering system.

WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ON A CITY STREET, I LOST BRAKE FUNCTION. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A COMPLETE STOP, THANKFULLY AVOIDING OTHER TRAFFIC AND OBSTACLES. ONCE I WAS STOPPED, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A LONG BOLT ON THE FLOORBOARD UNDERNEATH THE GAS PEDAL. WHEN THE TOWTRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED, HE REACHED IN AND PULLED THE GAS PEDAL COMPLETELY OFF - THERE WAS NOTHING FASTENING IT TO THE CAR. HE WAS ABLE TO REINSTALL THE BOLT, BUT SAID THERE WAS "A PIECE" MISSING, AND TOWED IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER FOUND THAT TWO PEDAL PIVOT BOLTS WERE MISSING, AND THE ONE THAT WAS PRESENT (WHICH HAD ENDED UP ON THE FLOOR), WAS NOT SECURED BY A NUT. THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE NOT SURE WHY THIS HAPPENED - THAT IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IN THE FACTORY - BUT SAID THAT THEY REPLACED THE THREE BOLTS AND TORQUED THEM PROPERLY, AND THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. The brake pedal assembly fell off while driving. Due to this the driver was unable to stop the car by applying brakes. The driver let the car slow down by itself a little before applying parking brakes to bring the car to a complete halt. In this process, the driver crossed three set of lights, which were fortunately green. Two of the lights were school-crossings. The safety of pedestrians, other cars on the road and the driver themselves were at risk. It was purely by chance that they were able to stop the car before any collision. The van is now at a repair shop. The experts at the repair shop said this is NOT normal. They have asked to raise a complaint to ensure that Toyota checks out the possibility of this occurring in other vehicles of the same model / year. There were no warnings before this incident happened.

2011 TOYOTA VAN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT-THE SEAT BECAME STUCK AND WOULD NOT MOVE DURING ANY ATTEMPT TO ADJUST IT WITH THE HANDLE. NO DEBRIS OR OBSTRUCTION WAS IN THE SEAT TRACK AFTER MULTIPLE CHECKS. NEITHER RECALL HAS A FIX AND BOTH ARE POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUES. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY REFUSE TO PROVIDE ALTERNATE, SAFE TRANSPORTATION FOR MY FAMILY, WHICH INCLUDES 3 YOUNG CHILDREN. MY CHILDREN WERE GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE. I AM A FORMER CPST. MY SON'S CAR SEAT WAS LOOSE, SO I CHECKED TO SEE WHY. I CHECKED THE BELT AND THE ENTIRE BUCKLE STALK CAME LOOSE IN MY HAND. THE BOLT THAT ATTACHED IT TO THE CAPTAIN'S CHAIR FELL OUT OF THE SOCKET. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. IF WE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, MY SON COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. A SEAT BELT SHOULD NOT JUST FALL OFF OF THE SEAT. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THE PART REATTACHED AND WAS ASKED WHY I COULD NOT JUST ATTACH IT BACK MYSELF. THIS IS ALSO NOT ACCEPTABLE. SHE WAS STANDING IN THE THIRD ROW OF SEATS FACING THE BACK WINDOW. SHE WASN'T MOVING AND FOR ONE AWFUL MOMENT I THOUGHT SHE WAS DEAD. I OPENED THE BACK HATCH TO FIND HER SUSPENDED BETWEEN TWO SEAT BELTS WRAPPED AROUND HER NECK. LUCKILY, HER FEET WERE STILL TOUCHING THE SEAT, WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN ENOUGH TO KEEP THE BELTS FROM COMPLETELY CUTTING OFF HER BREATHING. AS MY FRIEND AND I DESPERATELY TRIED TO UNTANGLE THE BELTS FROM AROUND HER NECK THEY GOT TIGHTER AND TIGHTER. I TRIED TO FIND A KEY OR ANYTHING SHARP TO UNHOOK THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT FROM ITS LATCH SO WE COULD UNWIND IT FROM AROUND HER NECK (I HAD DROPPED MY KEYS DURING THE INITIAL FRANTIC MOMENTS WHEN I CLIMBED IN THE HATCH TO TRY AND GET HER OUT). AS WE WORKED TO FREE HER, THE BELTS CONTINUED TO GET TIGHTER. MY FRIEND RAN TO A NEARBY SCHOOL TO GET SCISSORS. THE NEXT FEW MOMENTS WERE HORRIBLE. I WAS WATCHING MY DAUGHTER STRANGLE TO DEATH. I FRANTICALLY TRIED TO FIND MY KEYS OR ANY SHARP OBJECT TO RELEASE THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT FROM ITS ANCHOR. MY DAUGHTER WAS TURNING PURPLE AND IT WAS CLEAR THE SITUATION WAS DETERIORATING QUICKLY. I FINALLY GRABBED THE KEYS FROM MY FRIEND?S IGNITION AND REACHED OVER THE BACK SEAT TO UNHOOK THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT. I FELT A BRIEF MOMENT OF RELIEF AS I EXPECTED THAT TO RELEASE THE PRESSURE AROUND HER NECK, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. THE SEAT BELTS WERE SO TIGHT AT THAT POINT I COULDN?T UNTHREAD THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT FROM AROUND HER NECK. MY FRIEND ARRIVED WITH SCISSORS AND I CUT THE BELT. I WAS OUT IN THE FRONT PORCH NEAR MY GARAGE AROUND 7:30PM AND MY SIENNA WAS PARKED INSIDE THE GARAGE. SUDDENLY A LOUD NOISE LIKE AN EXPLOSION OF SORT OCCURRED THAT SCARED ME PRETTY BAD THAT PROMPTED ME TO LOOK INSIDE THE GARAGE AND I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE TWO LARGE HOLES SIMULTANEOUSLY ON EITHER SIDE (LEFT AND RIGHT) OF THE REAR WINDSHIELD AND THE GLASS WAS SLOWLY CAVING OUT AND THEN SHATTERED COMPLETELY IN (NOT SPIDER-WEB LIKE) SLOWLY FALLING AWAY INTO THE TRUNK. AFTER COMING BACK TO MY SENSES FROM THE INITIAL SHOCK, I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO SEE IF THEY HAD HEARD OF SUCH FREAK INCIDENTS TO WHICH THEY SAID 'YES'. I WENT TO[XXX] IN ARLINGTON, TX FROM WHOM I HAD PURCHASED THE VAN ALONG WITH THEIR DEALER WARRANTY ON TOP OF THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY AND AFTER THEIR SERVICE MANAGER LOOKED AT THE NON-EXISTENT WINDSHIELD WITH SOME OF THE GLASS STILL HANGING ON TO THE EDGES, HE SAID HE CANNOT MAKE A JUDGMENT AS TO WHETHER IT WAS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT OR VANDALISM SINCE THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW AS THE GLASS IS NOT IN THE WINDSHIELD ANYMORE (??!!!). I TOLD THEM THAT IF THE GLASS SHATTERS, IT WILL NOT BE INTACT AND YET THEY WOULD NOT BUY MY ARGUMENT. I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND THEY SAID UNLESS THE DEALER MAKES THE JUDGMENT, THEY CANNOT PROCEED WITH REPLACEMENT OF THE WINDSHIELD. I HEARD AN EXTREMELY LOUD EXPLOSION SOUND COMING FROM THE ROOF OF MY 2011 SIENNA JUST RIGHT AFTER I GOT ONTO A HIGHWAY AND WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 40MPH. THE SURROUNDING WAS CLEAR WHEN IT HAPPENED. I CALLED THE POLICE WHO FOUND OUT THAT THE SUNROOF GLASS BULGED UP AND SHATTERED. THE POLICE COULDN'T FIND ANY SIGNS OF ROCKS HITTING THE SUNROOF AND BASED ON THE GLASS BREAKAGE PATTERN SUSPECTED THAT THE CAR'S INTERIOR CABIN PRESSURE MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THE SUNROOF GLASS TO EXPLODE AND BREAK. I BELIEVE THERE POTENTIALLY MAY BE A SERIOUS DESIGN CONCERN WITH THE POWER DOORS. DUE TO HAVING THREE SMALL CHILDREN, I HAVE THE CHILD LOCKS ENGAGED ON THE REAR SLIDING DOORS, WHICH ALSO DISABLES THE REAR DOOR BUTTONS FROM OPENING (BUT NOT FROM CLOSING) THE POWER DOORS. THE BUTTONS IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE TO OPERATE THE POWER DOORS ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THE CHILD LOCKS, BUT ARE LOCATED ON THE CENTER ROOF CONSOLE, IN EASY REACH OF A CHILD STANDING IN THE SECOND ROW. TONIGHT, IN MATTER OF SECONDS BETWEEN ME EXITING THE DRIVERS SEAT AND WALKING AROUND THE VEHICLE TO THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR, ONE OF MY SONS PRESSED THE BUTTON TO OPEN THE SLIDING POWER DOOR, WHILE MY DAUGHTER STARTED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. MY THIRD CHILD THEN PRESSED A BUTTON AGAIN, CAUSING THE POWER DOOR TO SHUT ON MY DAUGHTER'S NECK. FORTUNATELY, THE SAFETY SYSTEM REVERSED THE DOOR, BUT IT INFLICTED PAIN AND TEARS AND LEFT REDNESS ON MY DAUGHTER'S NECK; THERE IS NO APPARENT LASTING INJURY, BUT I AM CONCERNED THE INJURIES COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SERIOUS. IN NOVEMBER OF 2010, WE PURCHASED 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE. WITHIN A MONTH, ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS- THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOORS GOT STUCK MIDWAY. THEY WOULD NOT MOVE BACK OR FORWARD. WE TOOK IT TO THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP. WE WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA HAD THEM CLEAR SOME "CODES" FOR THE AUTOMATIC DOORS AND THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, the rear driver's and passenger's power sliding doors failed to latch securely and opened while driving. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V858000 (Structure), but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the power sliding door motor, cable, and door lock actuators needed to be replaced. The dealer had to zip-tie the power sliding doors to keep the doors closed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER GOT HER LEG CAUGHT IN THE BACK PART OF THE SLIDING DOOR OF A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. SHE WAS INSIDE THE CAR. THE DOOR WAS OPENED. HER LEG FELL INTO THE SPACE WHILE THE DOOR WAS OPENING. THE DOOR OPENED AS FAR AS IT COULD AND CONSTRICTED HER LEG. HER LEG WAS SO TIGHTLY CONSTRICTED WE COULD NOT REPOSITION HER BODY TO OPEN THE DOOR. AVERILL PARK FIRE DEPT AND SAND LAKE AMBULANCE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE. SHE WAS TRAPPED(SCREAMING) FOR 20 -25 MINUTES. HER LEG WAS COLD AND TURNING BLUE BEFORE IT WAS REMOVED. WE WENT TO THE HOSPITAL CONCERNED FOR INTERNAL BLEEDING, BROKEN LEG, AND OTHER COMPLICATIONS. WE HAVE OWNED A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA FOR 1.5 WEEKS. YESTERDAY OUR 3 YEAR OLD'S HAND BECAME STUCK IN THE SLIDING DOOR. The contact stated that the rear driver's side sliding door had failed to close or latch securely while closing the door manually or while using the power door switch button. The vehicle was taken to C&C Auto, where the door motor and belt were replaced, and other unknown repairs were performed. The door was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the rear passenger's side sliding door had failed to open and close as needed. The contact stated that the door was currently closed and would not open. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V858000 (Structure); because the VIN was not included in the recall. Additionally, the contact stated that the TPMS had failed to function as needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. IN JULY OF 2011 TOYOTA SENT A NOTICE OF RECALL ON THE 2WD SIENNA VANS FOR A PROBLEM OF EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER. THEY SAID THE REMEDY WAS UNDER DEVELOPMENT. IT IS NOW DECEMBER AND EVERY TIME I CALL TOYOTA THEY SAY THEY HAVE NOT YET DEVELOPED A REMEDY AND ARE WORDING ON IT. MY CAR WAS RECALLED ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO FOR A TEMPORARY REPAIR OF THE CONNECTOR TO HOLD THE SPARE TIRE. THIS RESULTED IN THE SPARE TIRE BEING PLACED IN THE BACK-SEAT AREA OF THE VAN. I have complained about both rear sliding doors acting erratically for almost 3 years. These doors were under a recall, as they sometimes were overloaded and would cause the fuse to blow and the door(s) would/could swing open while moving. It happened to me NUMEROUS times. Once it was so bad, that I couldn’t bring my son yo school because the door wouldn’t stay shut. They beep upon auto open and you have to fight the door open or shut no matter if you switch off the “auto door” button or not. It has been to 3 different dealers in less than 3 years. The first dealer only replaced one junction box, and wiring harness on the passenger door because that it the only door that acted up while they were in possession of sienna. The door less than a 1000 miles later started to have issues - opening, closing, staying closed. I brought it to another dealer closer to my new house - they did not fix it as it didn’t do it for them with 10 tries while parked using auto and manual settings. That seems irresponsible and irrelevant as the ongoing customer complaint is the door swinging open whilst driving (neither dealer drove it, to see if it would swing open). Nonetheless, as the drivers side door never acted up at any dealer visit - they never replaced the recalled parts even knowing it has issues and saw video of it that I took. My vehicle is now sitting at a dealer with a $1600 repair bill for the same latch, as well as the back latch for the “recalled” parts - and they are refusing to acknowledge ANY RECALL WVER on the doors (safety recall G-04) as well as Toyota customer care so far is refusing to provide monetary assistance with this ordeal as my extended warrantee expired. One doors “repair” has made the door seemingly worse, and one door has never been repaired in regards to specific recalled parts as dealer states “no issue was seen with power sliding doors”. My niece lost a lot of $70 Birkenstock’s when my door FLUNG OPEN SO FAST at 50mph with no warning (door open light)

WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY, HAVING BEEN DRIVEN TWO HOURS BEFORE, MY VAN CAUGHT ON FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IT BURNED FOR AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME BEFORE WE WERE ALERTED. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS DISABLED BY THE FIRE CAUSING THE TWO BACK SLIDING DOORS TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE VAN CAN SEAT 6 PEOPLE IN THE REAR PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND THEY WOULD BE UNABLE TO EXIT THE VAN EXCEPT BY GOING THROUGH THE FRONT DOORS. EVEN NOW THAT IT IS AFTER THE FIRE, WE ARE STILL UNABLE TO OPEN THEM, FROM INSIDE, OUTSIDE, OR WITH ANY OF THE BUTTONS.

MOTOR ON SLIDING DOORS HAVE NOT WORKED PROPERLY SINCE WE FIRST PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW. WE WERE TOLD THEY "STICK" BECAUSE THE RUBBER SEALS ARE SO NEW. THE DOORS ONLY OPEN PART OF THE TIME. 50% OF THE TIME WHEN YOU OPEN THEM, THEY BEEP LOUDLY AND GET STUCK, JUST LIKE DAY ONE. TOYOTA CONTINUES TO CLAIM THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT AND ANYTIME WE'VE MENTIONED IT, THEY SAY THEY FOUND NO PROBLEMS. IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THEY GET JAMMED AND CAN ONLY BE YANKED OPEN MANUALLY. A CHILD COULD NOT OPEN IT IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY WHERE THEY NEED TO MAKE A QUICK ESCAPE. THE SEAL ON THE WINDOW IS ALSO BROKEN AND PULLS DOWN WHEN YOU OPEN THE WINDOW . THE SEAL PULLS DOWN WITH IT. THIS HAPPENED TO OUR BRAND-NEW TOYOTA CAMRY, AS WELL AS MY MOTHER'S BRAND NEW TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. TOYOTA HAS CHECKED IT OUT AND THEY CLAIMED IT'S WEAR AND TEAR. THEY REPLACED IT FOR FREE THE FIRST TIME, BUT LESS THAN A YEAR LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN! NOW I SEE A RECALL ON DOORS, THIS NEEDS TO B ADDRESSED, THAT RECALL IS NOT BEING HANDLED YET EITHER . COMPLAINT: TOYOTA SIENNA 2011 SE ON 2/3/2016 I TOOK MY 2011 SIENNA TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE INFORMATION DISPLAY SCREEN INDICATED VSC SYSTEM WARNING AND THE ENGINE LIGHT, TRAC SYSTEM LIGHT, AND WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. AFTER DIAGNOSTICS THE SERVICE ADVISOR EXPLAINED THAT FUEL EMISSION SWITCH VALVE WAS STUCK IN THE OFF POSITION. THE TECHNICIAN REPORT IDENTIFIED THE PART AS P2440 EVAPORATIVE EMISSION PRESSURE SWITCH VALVE. THE SWITCH REGULATES THE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE PUMPED INTO THE TANK THROUGH THE INTAKE AND OUTTAKE OF AIR. VACUUM HOSES CONNECT THE VALVE TO A 'CHARCOAL CANISTER' WHICH COLLECTS GAS FUMES FROM THE TANK AND ROUTES THEM TO THE ENGINE FOR COMBUSTION. UNFORTUNATELY, TOYOTA SELLS THESE VARIOUS COMPONENTS IN EMISSION SYSTEM AS ONE UNIT. THE PART WAS $537.92 AND $148.88 FOR LABOR. THE SUGGESTED CAUSE WAS OVERFILLING THE GAS TANK. WE HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM FILLING UP TANKS (STOPPING BEFORE THE POINT OF OVERFLOW) WITH MANY PREVIOUSLY OWNED TOYOTA TRUCKS AND SEDANS. THE CORE OF MY GRIEVANCE IS THE FACT THAT THE OWNER'S MANUAL DOES NOT SPECIFICALLY CAUTION THE OWNER THAT THIS PRACTICE CAN DAMAGE OR CAUSE A MALFUNCTION OF THE EMISSION SYSTEM. THE MANUAL ONLY CAUTIONS THE PERSON PUMPING FUEL 'DO NOT SPILL FUEL DURING REFUELING.'(P.150 IN REFUELING SECTION). IF THIS WAS THE REAL CAUSE FOR THE NEEDED EMISSION PART REPLACEMENT I HOPE THAT TOYOTA WILL WRITE A CLEAR WARNING ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF "FILLING UP" IN THEIR MANUAL OR CONSIDER REDESIGNING THE EMISSION SYSTEM. THE WELD AT THE TOP OF THE HINGE ON THE FUEL FILLER DOOR HAS BROKEN, SO THE DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE. THIS PREVENTS OPENING THE SLIDING DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I HAVE CHILDREN AND WOULD NEED THE ABILITY TO EVACUATE PASSENGERS QUICKLY AND EASILY IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. TOYOTA'S DESIGN ENGINEERS SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO HAVE THIS SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW ON A NEWLY INTRODUCED VEHICLE! THERE ARE PLENTY OF AUDIBLE DEVICES ON THE VEHICLE THAT COULD SOUND AFTER THE TURN INDICATOR HAS BE ENGAGED FOR 5, 10, 15 SECONDS WITHOUT BEING DISENGAGED. TOYOTA COULD HAVE PROGRESSIVE AUDIBLE TONES, WITH A LAST RESORT OF SOUNDING THE HORN INTERMITTENTLY. JUST DO SOMETHING, BEFORE YOU HAVE MILLIONS OF THESE VEHICLES IN SERVICE. A CAR GOING DOWN THE ROAD WITH A 'FALSE TURN INDICATION' IS DANGEROUS TO EVERYONE ON THE HIGHWAY! The VSC and tract light stay on all the time. The Ford dealer I purchased the Van from said they had it fixed. I took it back and i was told to buy a new gas cap which I did from a Toyota dealer in my area. The light came on again. I took it back and was told it had an exhaust leak and it won't hurt the van. But I could bring it back for starting at $ 200.00 and have a leak test done on the Van, but it would take hours. Since then I've had cleaner run thru the system but the lights stay on all the time. Is this a safety hazard because its an exhaust leak? Can you please assist in the repair information before I spend hundreds of dollars chasing the problem. Thank You so much..... WHEN WE ORDERED THE VEHICLE IN JUNE OF 2010, IT WAS WITH FULL UNDERSTANDING THAT WE HAD TO HAVE A VEHICLE WITH A HITCH, AS MY HUSBAND HAS A MOTORIZED WHEELCHAIR THAT MUST BE PLACED ON A RACK BEHIND OUR VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP IN SIOUX CITY, IOWA (RICK COLLINS) STATED THAT WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM. WHEN THE VEHICLE ARRIVED HERE IN SIOUX CITY FROM THE MANUFACTURER, WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS NEW MODEL OF SIENNA DID NOT HAVE A HITCH ON IT YET, AS IT HAD NOT FINISHED BEING DESIGNED, BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAD ONE AND WOULD PUT IT ON BEFORE WE TOOK IT. Vehicle: 2011 Toyota Sienna XLE VIN: [XXX] Mileage: ~204,800 Incident Date: [XXX] Recent Service: Oil change, tire rotation, brake inspection, and multipoint inspection performed on November 10, 2025 at Fitzgerald Toyota Gaithersburg (Maryland). Description of the Defect: On [XXX] while driving with my child in the vehicle, my 2011 Toyota Sienna experienced a sudden and dangerous failure. A strong burning smell entered the cabin, the ABS warning light illuminated, and then wheels locked up while the vehicle was in motion. At the same time, the steering wheel locked, making the vehicle impossible to steer. The engine immediately lost power and shut down in the middle of the roadway. The vehicle would not restart and had to be towed. This failure occurred four days after dealership service at Fitzgerald Toyota Gaithersburg, which included an oil change, tire rotation, and brake inspection. The dealership initially claimed the failure was due to a “dead battery,” and the following day changed the explanation to a “shorted alternator.” A weak battery or alternator failure does not explain a mechanical wheel lock or steering wheel lock while driving. The dealership has refused to provide diagnostic documentation or photographs of the components involved. This incident presents a significant safety hazard, and if it had occurred at highway speeds, it could have resulted in a severe crash. I am reporting this to request investigation into a potential safety defect involving the steering system, braking/ABS system, electrical system, or related components. Safety Risk: High. I was pulling my 2011 Toyota Siena into a parking space. My foot was on the brake and the car was going about 5 mph. The car made a slight sound, along with a perceptible yet small physical shift, and (while my foot was on the brake) independently accelerated with tremendous force. It was like it was ignited. The car hit a concrete pole and was totaled. The acceleration over-rode the brake. No one was hurt. The concrete pole averted what could have been a catastrophic accident, had we hit pedestrians, or had we rear ended a car or truck on the freeway. The brakes failed as the car jumped into independent acceleration. My safety and the safety of my passenger were both at risk. As I said, in a different situation, we might have hit pedestrians, or gone through the wall of the grocery store and hit customers. The concrete pole saved us and others. The mechanic at the service center where the car was towed said it was impossible to discern if there had been a failure in the system of the car - though clearly both my passenger and myself experienced that failure in the car's ability to override an independent, forceful acceleration not caused by the driver. There was no warning of any kind. On the Edmunds site, there are many, many testimonials by other drivers of the Toyota Siena of similar, frightening experiences of independent acceleration. It is terribly dangerous and should be investigated. If there is not a recall on this vehicle, there should be. This is a potentially catastrophic defect.

Safety issue: can't open gas door, can't open sliding door Gas door cover on the driver's side will not completely latch (faulty hinge issue? ) which prevents the sliding door from opening. Sliding door has issues in moving back and forth. Apparently there was a recall for this issue and I was never notified. When I researched the issue, I found that there was a recall but because my recall is just out of the 10 year time frame, Toyota states they won't pay for the repair of the faulty mechanism and that I have to pay for it out of pocket. Considering there has been a pandemic for the since March 2020, it's hard to believe that they wouldn't honor the repair when I called about it in December. I made a phone complaint to Toyota at the end of December 2021 and no one has returned my call.

I PULLED INTO A RELATIVE'S GRAVEL DRIVEWAY WHICH HAS A VERY LARGE PARKING AREA TO THE SIDE. I PULLED UP TO ABOUT TWO FEET FROM THEIR GRASSY AREA, GOT INTO POSITION TO BACK UP INTO A PARKING SPACE, STOPPED, AND PUT MY 2011 SIENNA INTO REVERSE, AND AS SOON AS I GENTLY TOUCHED THE EXCELERATOR TO BEGIN BACKING UP THE VAN SPED FORWARD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED CRASHING INTO AND OVER AN 8 INCH RAILROAD TIE THAT HAD A STEELBEAM ON TOP THAT SEPARATED THE DRIVEWAY FROM THEIR YARD. I HAD TO SLAM BOTH FEET ONTO THE BRAKE TO GET IT TO STOP WHICH IT FINALLY DID. I THOUGHT I HAD NOT PUT IT IN REVERSE BUT I LOOKED AT THE GEARSHIFT AND IT WAS INDEED IN REVERSE. I JIGGLED THE GEARSHIFT TO MAKE SURE IT WAS SECURED IN THE SLOT AND IT WAS. I THEN PUT IT IN PARK AND SAT THERE FOR A MINUTE OR TWO TRYING TO GAIN COMPOSURE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT JUST HAPPENED, I WAS IN SHOCK AS NOTHING LIKE THIS HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. AFTER THAT MINUTE OR TWO I DECIDED I COULDN'T LET THE VEHICLE SIT THERE AND NEEDED TO MOVE IT. SCARED, BUT I PUT IT IN REVERSE AGAIN, READY TO POUNCE ON THE BRAKES WITH BOTH FEET AND BARELY TOUCHING THE EXCELERATOR I STARTED MOVING IN REVERSE. IT WAS WORKING FINE THEN. I THEN GOT OUT TO CHECK FOR DAMAGE AND THE BUMPER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WAS DAMAGED FROM THE IMPACT. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY, I WAS NOT HURT HOWEVER HAD ANY OF MY RELATIVES BEEN IN THAT AREA AT THAT MOMENT IT COULD'VE RESULTED IN AN INJURY OR FATALITY. I REPORTED WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND THEN TO TOYOTA USA AS INSTRUCTED IN THE HANDBOOK. NOW I'M REPORTING IT HERE. AM AWAITING CONTACT SUPPOSEDLY WITHIN THE NEXT DAY OR SO TO SEE WHAT TOYOTA INTENDS TO DO WITH THE SIENNA. I WILL NOT DRIVE AGAIN IT UNTIL THE REASON FOR THIS DEFECT IS FOUND AND FIXED AND DAMAGES REPAIRED. THE OUTCOME WILL DECIDE WHETHER I WILL EVER BE A TOYOTA CUSTOMER AGAIN.

I WAS PARKING THE CAR AND NEEDED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE BACKWARD IN A PARKING LOT WITH A SLIGHT SLOPE. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE SHIFT LEVER TO REVERSE THE LEVER LOCKED UP AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARD. I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO NO AVAIL AND THE ENGINE DIED. THE STEERING WAS LOCKED. THE IGNITION SWITCH ALSO LOCKED. THE VEHICLE STOPPED . I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID TO APPLY THE BRAKES VIGOROUSLY, AT THE SAME TIME PUMP THE ACCELERATOR AND TURN THE IGNITION. I DID AND THE FUNCTIONS ALL STARTED WORKING. THE AIR CONDITIONER HOUSING IS LEAKING WATER ONTO SAFETY-CRITICAL PARTS. THIS HOUSING IS MADE OF PLASTIC PARTS THAT ARE GLUED TOGETHER. WATER IS CONDENSED DURING THE COOLING CYCLE, AND IT THEN COLLECTS AT THE BOTTOM AND EXITS THE VEHICLE THROUGH A RUBBER HOSE. THE GLUE HOLDING THE HOUSING TOGETHER HAS FAILED. WATER IS LEAKING FROM THE HOUSING AND RUNNING ONTO THE COMPUTER MODULE THAT DEPLOYS THE AIRBAGS. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH A WET MODULE BECAUSE THE AIRBAGS CAN DEPLOY WHILE MOVING, OR THAT THEY MIGHT NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION. AN IDENTICAL PROBLEM AFFECTS TOYOTA MODELS CAMRY, AVALON, AND VENZA. (TOYOTA, SIENNA 2011) PASSENGER AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR ANTI-JAM SENSOR FAILED. OBJECT (MACBOOK) WAS PLACED IN DOOR POCKET COMPARTMENT. DOOR SWITCH WAS PRESSED AND DOOR BEGAN OPENING. MACBOOK DID NOT COMPLETELY CLEAR THE DOORS PATH COMPLETELY AND DOOR BEGAN CRUSHING IT. I COULD HEAR SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT AND SAW THE DOOR BEND THE LAPTOP AND PARK IN THE FULLY OPEN POSITION. YOU COULD CLEARLY SEE AND HEAR THE DOOR HAD MET AN OBSTACLE AND WAS STRUGGLING, BUT JUST PRESSED THROUGH IT. DOOR MADE NO ATTEMPT TO STOP OR REVERSE. THE MACBOOK WAS DAMAGED. THE POWERED FOLD UP RAMP AND MOTOR LOCKED UP COMPLETELY BLOCKING WHEEL CHAIR EXIT AND ENTRY ACCESS IN THE TOYOTA SIENNA 2011 BRAUN ABILITY RAMPVAN. THE ALLEGED MANUAL RAMP OPERATION FUNCTION FAILED TO WORK TRAPPING THE WHEEL CHAIR OCCUPANT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS DANGEROUS DESIGN HAS BEEN MADE SINCE 2011 AND CONTINUES TO BE MADE INTO 2013. BRAUNABILITY NEEDS TO RECALL THIS DESIGN AND MAKE A TRUE MANUAL RELEASE THAT DISCONNECTS FROM THE MOTOR INCASE OF FAILURE OR LOCKUP. MY SON IS SEVERELY DISABLED AND HAS ALOT OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT. THE JUMP SEAT BOLTED TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FLOOR BLOCKED ENTRY AND EXIT CLEARANCE FOR A WHEEL CHAIR ON THE OTHER SIDE AS A POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVE EMERGENCY EXIT. WE HAD TO LITERALLY PULL HIM OUT OF HIS WHEEL CHAIR AND DISCONNECT HIS EQUIPMENT - ALL VERY DIFFICULT IN THE TIGHT SPACE AND VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. WE WERE INFOMED BY TOYOTA SERVICE THAT THE TIRES ARE BALDING AND NEED REPLACEMENT. THEY INFORMED US THAT THIS IS A TIRE ISSUE. WE CONTACTED FIRESTONE, AND THEY INFORMED US THAT THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE SIENNA PREMATURELY WEARING OUT TIRES DUE TO ALIGNMENT ISSUES WITH THE DESIGN OF THE SIENNA. FIRESTONE AGREED TO PAY FOR HALF THE COST OF NEW TIRES. TOYOTA ON THE HAND HAS GIVEN US THE RUN AROUND AND IS NOT TAKING OWNERSHIP. WE HAVE FOUND THAT THROUGH BLOGS THERE ARE CUSTOMERS THAT ARE REPLACING TIRES AFTER LESS THAN A YEAR OF USE (<15K MILES). WE HAVE THE ENTIRE THREAD OF CONVERSATIONS AND MAINTENANCE RECORDS THAT SHOW THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF THE VECHICLE'S ALIGNMENT AS VERIFIED BY TOYOTA SERVICE AND OTHER REPAIR SHOPS. I WAS STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON HIGHWAY 20 IN NICEVILLE, FL. I HAD MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN I FELT THE VEHICLE ATTEMPT TO SURGE FORWARD AND I COULD HEARD THE ENGINE REV. AFTER PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND DRIVING FORWARD LESS THAN 100 YDS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO PULL LEFT AND RIGHT AS IF VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL WERE TAKING OVER. VERY SHORTLY AFTER, THE VEHICLE CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP WITH BRAKES SEEMINGLY APPLIED ON THEIR OWN (POWER BRAKE ASSIST?). THE SCREEN LIT UP WITH THE FOLLOWING WARNINGS, "CHECK ABS," "CHECK VSC," AND "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM," FOLLOWED BY "HAVE YOUR VEHICLE CHECKED BY DEALER." THE ABS, VSC, EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON AS WELL. UPON TAKING A LOOK UNDER THE HOOD, WE ALSO DISCOVERED WHAT APPEARED TO BE AN OIL LEAK AT THE HEAD GASKET. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND A TOYOTA ENGINEER WAS FLOWN IN TO HELP DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE RESULT WAS THEY CLEARED THE CODES, WIPED UP THE OIL, AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. ABOUT A DAY AND A HALF LATER, THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WITH THE VEHICLE PULLING, WARNING LIGHTS, ETC. THIS TIME, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY FOUND "HARD" CODES AND THAT THE FLOOR WIRE HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOW BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR 16 DAYS. WE SHALL SEE WHETHER THE WIRE HARNESS FIXES THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID THEY PUT DYE IN THE ENGINE OIL TO TRY TO DETECT A LEAK. FAILURE OF DRIVER'S CABIN LAMP OVERRIDE SWITCH TO EXTINGUISH CABIN READING LIGHTS OBSCURED DRIVER'S VISION AT NIGHT DURING HIGH-SPEED MERGE MANEUVER: I WAS ATTEMPTING A HIGH-SPEED HIGHWAY MERGE, AT NIGHT, ENTERING ROUTE 29 FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, WHEN MY THREE-YEAR-OLD SON DISCOVERED THAT HE WAS NOW TALL ENOUGH TO OPERATE HIS OVERHEAD PERSONAL READING LIGHT. MY VISION OF MERGING TRAFFIC TO THE RIGHT WAS SUDDENLY OBSCURED BY THE UNEXPECTED OPERATION OF THE CABIN READING LAMP, AND THE SITUATION WAS COMPOUNDED BY MY INABILITY TO QUICKLY OVERRIDE THE LAMP FROM THE DRIVER'S POSITION, IN THE MANNER AS DIRECTED ON PAGE 526 OF THE OWNER'S MANUAL. ACCORDING TO THE SIENNA 2011 OWNER'S MANUAL ON PAGE 526, THE DOOR LIGHT BUTTON, ABOVE THE DRIVER'S HEAD, ALSO SERVES AS AN OVERRIDE FOR ALL THE PERSONAL CABIN READING LIGHTS WHEN THE "DOOR" FUNCTION IS DISABLED: PAGE 526: "REAR ON/OFF: REAR PERSONAL/INTERIOR LIGHTS TURN ON [UPON ACTIVATION OF THE ILLUSTRATED INDIVIDUAL READING LAMP BUTTONS AT EACH SEATING POSITION] WHEN THE PERSONAL/INTERIOR MAIN SWITCH IS IN DOOR POSITION." THE DUAL FUNCTIONALITY OF THE DOOR LIGHT BUTTON IS CONFIRMED; ON PAGE 525 OF THE MANUAL, THE OTHER WELL-KNOWN PURPOSE OF THE DOOR BUTTON IS SEPARATELY AND INDEPENDENTLY DESCRIBED TO ACTIVATE AUTOMATIC CABIN ILLUMINATION WHEN ENTERING/EXITING THE VEHICLE: PAGE 525: "DOOR POSITION: THE PERSONAL/INTERIOR LIGHTS AND REAR INTERIOR LIGHT COME ON WHEN A DOOR IS OPENED. 5 MONTH OLD TOYOTA SIENNA 2011 STALLED AFTER THE LIGHTS INSIDE THE DASHBOARD (CONTROL PANEL) STARTED BLINKING AND THEN WOULD NOT START AGAIN. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER ON 12/22/2010. DEALER INITIALLY (ON 12/27/2010) SAID IT IS DUE TO WATER DAMAGE AND ENGINE HAS TO BE REPLACED. DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY EVIDENCE OF SIENNA BEING SUBMERGED IN WATER (AS IT DID NOT GO INTO ANY BIG PUDDLE OR DEEP WATERS). I OPENED A CASE WITH TOYOTA ON 12/28/2010. I WAS IN TOUCH WITH TOYOTA DEALER BUT CASE MANAGER AT TOYOTA INFORMED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REACH/SPEAK TO THE DEALER FOR 2 DAYS EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE BOTH IN CALIFORNIA. SHE INFORMED ME THAT THEIR POLICY IS TO CONCUR WITH DEALER WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE REPORT OR TALKING TO THEM AND THEY WOULD NEITHER INVESTIGATE NOR INSPECT. MY INSURANCE COMPANY (AAA) PERFORMED VISUAL INSPECTION AND FOUND TOO MANY METAL PIECES INSIDE THE ENGINE. INSURANCE COMPANY ALSO FOLLOWED UP WITH DEALER AND INFORMED THERE ARE OTHER CASES WHERE THEY HAD SEEN SIMILAR ISSUE WITH TOYOTA SIENNA 2011 AND THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A WATER DAMAGE. THERE HAS BEEN NEITHER AN EXPLANATION NOR A FOLLOW-UP FROM TOYOTA AS TO WHAT THE CAUSE WAS. DEALER REPORTED BACK ON 01/04/2011 AND INFORMED ME THAT IT MIGHT BE A MECHANICAL FAILURE AND TOYOTA WILL FIX IT. I AM NOW CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND ANYONE WHO DRIVES SIENNA.
