On 5 different occasions between January-March 2023 the accelerator pedal continued to accelerate after the pedal pressure was released. Even with braking, the accelerator pedal did not decelerate. Pedal had to be lifted back to original position by using toe of foot underneath the pedal. Occurred 4 times in city driving and once on highway. Extremely hazardous conditions if I did not react to stop the acceleration. On three of the occasions I was behind a vehicle which could have caused an accident had my reaction not been quick. Toyota dealership stated all previous recalls in regards to accelerator pedal were complied with and refused any additional service to uncontrolled acceleration issues.

CRUISE CONTROL RANDOMLY STOPS WORKING. WORKS PERFECTLY FOR A FEW DAYS THEN QUITS. SOMETIMES THE CRUISE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL STILL DOES NOT FUNCTION. THE ISSUE SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THE STEERING COLUMN. SOMETIMES WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED LOCK TO LOCK THE CRUISE CONTROL THEN OPERATES NORMALLY. LOCAL MECHANIC SAYS THIS MAY BE THE "CLOCK GEAR" WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD EXHIBIT AN ABNORMALLY HIGH INCREASE IN RPMS AT STARTUP AND THE MOTOR WOULD RACE LOUDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE AIR INJECTION PUMP OR THE AIR SWITCH DEVICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ON 10-30-11 AT APPROXIMATELY 4:35 PM I PARKED MY 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA IN FRONT OF STEVE'S SMALL ENGINE, A BUSINESS LOCATED IN MONSON MA. AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE TRUCK ACCELERATOR STUCK OPEN AND THE TRUCK LEAPED AHEAD WHILE I HAD MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND WAS DEPRESSING THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD PUSH IT TOWARD THE FLOOR. MY VEHICLE STRUCK A PARKED PICKUP TRUCK IN THE TAILGATE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE MONSON POLICE DEPT. AND REPORTED THE EVENT. THE MONSON POLICE RESPONDED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED.

DRIVING ALONG APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH DEPRESSED ACCELERATOR PEDAL SLIGHTLY TOOK FOOT OFF PEDAL VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE INCREASING SPEED. I IMMEDIATELY DEPRESSED BRAKE PLACING VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL THEN AGAIN PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR AND RELEASING IT. THE ENGINE REVVED BACK TO NORMAL. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic to be inspected, and it was determined that there was severe corrosion to the rear subframe. The vehicle was not repaired. The floor inside of the bed is sagging everywhere it is bolted down to the frame. It has never had a bedliner. It has a crunchy sound when you step on these areas. I do not know how much damage is under the flooring at this time. There has been nothing heavy hauled in the bed. The rest of the bed is solid. If not repaired the bed will separate from the truck and soon

Frame rusting away, will no longer pass inspection because of cracks. First recall inspection dealer said it was OK second frame replacement is $10,700.00

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the subframe had severe rust-causing holes shown in the frame and cabbed of the vehicle. The contact stated that some areas had been sprayed with a substance to patch up the areas of rust, however, the spray had since deteriorated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer to be inspected. The contact informed the manufacturer of the failure and was informed that the extended coverage for the repair had been extended. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

The entire outside of this truck is rusting. The frame is completely rusted as is the outside of the vehicle and the bed which you can see the ground when looking down. This is ridiculous. It looks like the area that hold the gas is also rusted and is dangerous to drive.

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where to be diagnosed. The dealer determined that the secondary air injection pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The truck has had three engine oil leaks since 4-20-22. The most recent is being repaired now. In each of these leaks, engine oil leaks out of the valve cover and or the cam tower and drips onto the exhaust. The burning oil can be smelled inside the truck cab. I am concerned it could cause a fire. The dealer has repaired the first two leaks and is working on the cam tower leak now (drivers side). I notified Toyota, they refused to fix the problem.

Truck goes into low power mode or "limp" and has difficulty accelerating. The check engine light is on, “VSC OFF” light blinks on and off, as well as the “slippery tire” sign stays on. Very dangerous if this happens when driving on an expressway as you can't drive over 45 mph in low power mode. This is a known issue with Air Injection Pumps and Air Switching Valves for Toyota Tundra trucks between 2007-2008. Toyota extended the factory warranty instead of offering a recall. Due to the factory warranty extension Toyota would not fix this problem until it manifested, and it usually doesn't manifest until after the extension of the factory warranty has expired.

I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP FAILED ON MY VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD I WOULD BE $3500 TO REPAIR. THIS IS KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE TUNDRA. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT TOYOTA HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS BUT IT EXPIRED AFTER 10 YEARS OR 150,000, I HAVE 121,000. WHEN THE PUMP FAILS IT CAUSES THE VEHICAL TO GO INTO LIMP MODE. I RAN A ERRAND TODAY AND THE TRUCK RAN FINE. I WENT TO THE STORE AND RETURNED TO THE TRUCK. I STARTED IT AND THE THE VSC LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AS I HEADED INTO TRAFFIC THE VEHICAL WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TO KEEP UP WITH THE TRAFFIC AND ALMOST GOT REARENDED. TOYOTA SHOULD OF HAD A RECALL ON THIS BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY FEATURE AND COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS AIR PUMP IS INSTALLED ON TUNDRAS AND OTHER MODELS. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW IN 2008 AND HAVE SERVICED IT ON THE MFG SCHEDULE. SINCE THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE PUMPS DURING REGULAR MAINTENANCE INSTEAD OF NOT DOING NOTHING AND HOPE IT DOES NOT OCCUR. EVEN IF I REPLACE THE PUMPS WHAT SAYS IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. I LOST CONFIDENCE IN MY TRUCK AND AM AFRAID IT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN.

ABNORMAL NOISE AND VIBRATION IN RIGHT REAR WHEEL AS VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. TOYOTA DEALER IDENTIFIED RIGHT WHEEL BEARING AS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED IN MAY 2017. DEALERSHIP HAD PROBLEMS REPLACING BEARING AND ALSO CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE TO SEE IF REPAIR COULD BE COVERED-TOYOTA REFUSED TO COVER THE ISSUE. THE REPLACED BEARING FAILED AGAIN IN JUNE 2017 WITH A CLICKING SOUND WHICH INCREASED WITH SPEED. DEALERSHIP IS REPLACING RIGHT REAR BEARING UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. I REPORTED PROBLEMS TO TOYOTA CONSUMER ADVOCATE WHO ADVISED ME THAT THERE IS NO RECOURSE OR ESCALATION SINCE THEY HAD NO RECALLS, SERVICE BULLETINS OR WARRANTY COVERAGE DOCUMENTED. I PROVIDED NHTSA COMPLAINTS AND EVENTUALLY I LOCATED TSB T-SB-0151-10 TO TOYOTA CORP. MY CONCERN IS THAT A BEARING FAILURE CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL OR WHEEL SEPARATION FROM THE VEHICLE. I HAVE NO ASSURANCE FROM EITHER TOYOTA OR THE TOYOTA DEALER THAT THE REMAINING 3 BEARINGS ARE FREE OF THE SAME DEFECT OR THAT THE NEW REPLACEMENT WILL BE SUCCESSFUL. WEB SEARCHES HAVE INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED BY OTHER PARTIES AND GENERALLY UNSUPPORTED BY TOYOTA.

WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED IN FEBRUARY, 2012 WITH 33,000 MILES ON IT. A BULLETIN CAME OUT IN JUNE, 2010 (#T-SB-0151-10) ABOUT REAR WHEEL BEARINGS GOING ON 2007-2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA AND THE REPLACEMENT KIT. WE WERE NOT TOLD ABOUT THIS WHEN BOUGHT FROM DEALERSHIP. WE NOW HAVE 92,000 MILES ON IT AND HOWLING HAS STARTED IN THE BACK END AND DEALERSHIP SAID IT IS THE WHEEL BEARINGS--KNOWN ISSUE BUT STILL HAVE TO PAY OVER $1600 TO GET THEM REPLACED. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE NO HELP AT ALL SAYING OUT OF WARRANTY AT 36,000 MILES/3 YEARS EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW THE WHEEL BEARS WERE JUNK AND THEY UPGRADED THE BEARING KIT WAY BACK IN 2010. WHEEL BEARINGS ARE A SAFETY ISSUE THE WHEEL CAN COME OFF IF NOT REPLACED. NO HELP FROM TOYOTA COMPANY OR DEALERSHIP. CALLED TOYOTA AND CASE #161110029.

I RECENTLY HAD A LOUD HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR DRIVETRAIN OF MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA AT ALMOST ANY SPEED AND THE SOUND WAS PRESENT REGARDLESS OF TURNS OR TYPE OF DRIVING. I HAD NOTICED THE NOISE FOR QUITE A WHILE BUT IT STARTED TO GET SO BAD THAT YOU COULD FEEL A VIBRATION IN THE FLOORBOARD. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 75K MILES ON IT AND IT TURNS OUT THE REAR AXLE BEARINGS HAVE FAILED PREMATURELY. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE TO TOYOTA (SEE TSB-0151-01) BUT AFTER ASKING THEIR DEALERSHIP AND CALLING THEIR RECALL CENTER, THEY REFUSE TO ASSIST FINANCIALLY WITH THE REPAIR, WHICH WAS VERY EXPENSIVE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE, AS THE BEARING COULD SEIZE OR COME APART, POTENTIALLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE CONSIDER HAVING TOYOTA ISSUE A RECALL. SAIS/emissions system constantly malfunctions and puts the truck into limp mode, making it difficult to drive over 40mph and incredibly dangerous if it occurs while driving. We’ve been trying to fix it for years with no luck, after thousands of dollars. I’m surprised there’s not any class action lawsuits against Toyota for this issue as it’s fairly common in their trucks.

Received recall notice about frame rot problems. Had vehicle inspected at Prime Toyota Route 2, 700 Old Union Turnpike, Lancaster, MA in November 2018. They told us frame was okay and we have the documentation. 2 Years later (approx. 10,000 miles more), (when driving) frame broke. Have been in contact with Toyota. Toyota tells me to call dealership. Dealership stated they would talk to Toyota rep and call back. Toyota said I need to go to dealership because they inspected it. Dealership won't call back after numerous calls. Called Toyota and they opened another claim. Never heard back from Toyota. Have been dealing with this for about a year now. We believe that dealer did not do a proper inspection.

ON DECEMBER 3, 2011 I WAS DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY ON A PAVED LOCAL ROAD AND THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE TRUCK JUST DROPPED SEVERAL INCHES AFTER A LOUD SNAP SOUND. INITIALLY I THOUGHT THE FRONT WHEEL HAD COME OF THE TRUCK SOMEHOW BECAUSE IT WAS A FAIRLY VIOLENT DROP. I PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED THE WHEEL, EVERYTHING LOOKED TO BE IN TACT. NEXT I GOT ON THE GROUND AND NOTICED RIGHT AWAY THAT THE FRONT STRUT HAD SNAPPED IN HALF. I CONSIDERED THIS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM, SO I CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. THE RESPONSE I GOT WAS... "HOW MANY MILES ARE ON YOUR TUNDRA"? I REPLIED 46,500. THE NEXT RESPONSE WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING - WITH NO OTHER INQUIRY INTO THE SITUATION, THE TECHNICIAN SAID, "WELL, YOU ARE OUTSIDE OF THE 3YR / 36,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE STRUTS SO YOU CAN HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED TO OUR SHOP AND WE CAN REPLACE IT FOR YOU". I'M THINKING WOW!!! THAT'S THE RESPONSE AFTER I JUST TELL A TOYOTA SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT A FACTORY PART JUST RANDOMLY FAILED AND COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. NEXT I CONTACTED THE NATIONAL HOTLINE FOR TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE. THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WOULD BE DOCUMENTED AND THANKED ME FOR CALLING IN WITH MY CONCERN. THIS IS MY 3RD TUNDRA AND I'VE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE LIKE THIS BEFORE. ALL IN ALL, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT A MAJOR COMPONENT LIKE A STRUT FAILED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. EVEN MORE DISAPPOINTING IS THE REACTION I RECEIVED FROM BOTH MY LOCAL DEALER AND THE NATIONAL CUSTOMER HOTLINE. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT A NIGHTMARE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN IF I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE STRUT FAILED? I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB WITH 14,000 MILES ON IT. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (65+MPH) THERE IS A TERRIBLE BOUNCE IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK. AT TIMES, IT IS SO BAD THAT I FEEL LIKE I MIGHT LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND MUST SLOW DOWN WELL BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT. I HAD MY TIRES BALANCED AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I CANNOT TAKE PASSENGERS ON LONG HIGHWAY TRIPS BECAUSE THEY GET NAUSEOUS. I AM WORRIED THAT THIS WILL CAUSE MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE WITH A TUNDRA TO BECOME INJURED OR DIE. EMISSIONS VALVE AND RELATED PUMPS FAILED CAUSING A SIGNIFICANT LOSS IN POWER. THIS HAPPENED WHEN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY IN UPSTATE VERMONT. SUDDENLY MY TRUCK LOST SIGNIFICANT POWER, AND WOULD RAPIDLY DECELARATE EVERYTIME I APPROACH A POSITIVE GRADE IN THE ROAD. SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE TRIP I SLOWED DOWN FASTER THAN CARS BEHIND ME EXPECTED, AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT WARN THEM AS IT WAS DUE TO THE TRUCK LOSING POWER, AND NOT ME BRAKING. TRUCK WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE AND THE VSC, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE "TRACTION" LIGHT ALL CAME ON. TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE TO GET A READ OUT AND IT HAD A P2442 FOR A SUBARU, BUT WAS FIGURED TO BE THE ASV (AIR SWITCH VALVE) OR THE AIP (AIR INDUCTION PUMP) ON BANK 2. CONSIDERING THAT MY TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY WITH 62000 MILES AND ALL THE FORUM AND WEBSITES THAT I HAVE BEEN TO THAT TOLD ME IT WOULD CAST ANY WHERE FROM 1000 TO 5000 BUCKS TO FIX, I CHECKED IT OUT MYSELF. THE ASV ON THE DRIVER SIDE HAS A METAL PLATE THAT IS BROKEN AND IS KEEPING THE VALVE OPENED. I HAVE CALLED A DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE NO CLUE WHEN THE PARTS COULD BE IN BECAUSE OF THE TSUNAMI IN JAPAN. ON FEBRUARY 12, 2011 THE FAILURE RECURRED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT TWO AIR INJECTION SWITCH VALVES AND TWO AIR PUMPS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALERS POSSESSION WHEN THE COMPLAINT ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT HAD AUTHORIZED THE REPAIR. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 180,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THE WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE STARTED SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY WHICH CAUSED HIM TO VEER OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE CONTACT WAS IMMEDIATELY TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS TREATED FOR WHIPLASH, CUTS AND LACERATIONS TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF HIS BODY, A SLIGHT CONCUSSION, AND A BRUISED RIGHT RIB. The contact's husband owns a 2008 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, a fellow motorist alerted her husband that an unknown part had been hanging from underneath the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact's husband discovered that the fuel tank had detached from the vehicle due to severe corrosion. The contact stated that several years prior, the vehicle had been subjected to an unknown recall related to corrosion. The contact stated that a special coating was sprayed on the vehicle to prevent corrosion; however, the recall remedy failed to prevent the corrosion. The dealer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 171,000.

I JUST BOUGHT MY 2008 TUNDRA AND HAVE NOTICED AN INCREDIBLE BOUNCE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THIS DOES NOT SEEM NORMAL AND CONCERNS ME. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED AND BALANCED AND THIS DOESN'T SEEM TO CHANGE THE BOUNCE EFFECT. AFTER READING ONLINE, IT APPEARS THAT TOYOTA IS FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROBLEM. I HOPE THEY FIX IT SOON. 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB 4X4 SR5 W/TRD OFF ROAD THIS TRUCK IS CLEARLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN YOU DRIVE THE TRUCK AND HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE TRUCK BED BOUNCES. IT WILL ACTUALLY AFFECT THE STEERING AND ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IF YOU HIT A LARGE BUMP IT IS EXCEPTIONALLY HARD TO STEER AND CONTROL. I KNOW TRUCK BEDS CAN BOUNCE, BUT THIS TRUCK IS WAY MORE THAN THE NORM!! THE BOUNCE HAS ACTUALLY LED TO MY 1ST TUNDRA'S BED TO BE OUT OF SQUARE 1 1/2 . FURTHER MORE , IF YOU MEASURE FROM THE BACK OF THE CAB TO THE TOP OF THE BED, THERE WAS A DIFFERENCE OF 1 3/4 INCHES FROM THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE. PLEASE HELP! Toyota dealer reported that this 2008 Toyota Tundra Double Cab 4WD had a steering fluid leak, and other issues with the steering mechanism that sounds very similar to the current recall from November 2021.

PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT, THE STEERING COLUMN BECAME VERY LOOSE. I HAD TO KEEP REPOSITIONING IT. I THOUGHT I HAD TIGHTEN THE SAFETY LOCK PIECE THAT HOLDS THE STEERING COLUMN IN PLACE. THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT, AS I WAS GETTING IN MY VEHICLE, THE STEERING COLUMN COMPLETELY CAME DOWN. IT WOULD NOT LOCK IN PLACE. AS I WAS ON MY WAY THE STEERING COLUMN MOVED UP AND DOWN, AND IN AND OUT. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE STEERING VEHICLE. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALER. THERE IS A STEERING PROBLEM ON MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5 DOUBLE CAB. WHEN DRIVING ON A NORMALLY CROWNED( OR SLOPED) ROAD SURFACE, THE TRUCK WILL PULL TO THE RIGHT ON THE RIGHT LANE, OR TO THE LEFT ON THE LEFT LANE. THE LOCAL DEALER HAS MADE MULTIPLE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE FRONT END ALIGNMENT, HAS ROTATED TIRES, EVEN SWAPPED TIRES FROM ANOTHER TRUCK. THE PULLING PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL) BUT THE RECALL REPAIR HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN PERFORMED. THE DEALER COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A 2008 TUNDRA V8, 4.7L. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN MAY OF 2009 BRAND NEW. IT CURRENTLY HAS 17,000 MILES. APPROXIMATELY SEPT 11, 2010 THE DASH LIGHT WARNING FOR BRAKES STARTED BLINKING. I STOPPED TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED. BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON STEADY. I PUSHED IN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THEN RELEASED. STILL BRAKE LIGHT ON. I DROVE FOR COUPLE OF HOURS WITH LIGHT ON. BRAKES DID SEEM TO WORK CORRECTLY. I HAD AN OIL AND SERVICE MAINTENANCE COMPLETED IN JULY 2010, AND NOTHING WAS NOTED. PURCHASES 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5 4X4 5.7 V8 4/30. ON 5/1 BEGAN HEARING LOUD BANG AS CAR CHANGED GEARS FROM 2ND TO 3RD. THE BANG NOISE WAS OFTEN SO LOUD IT SOUNDED LIKE I HAVE RAN OVER SOMETHING METAL IN THE ROAD. HAPPENED MOST TIMES I ENTERED CAR AND IT CHANGED FROM 2ND TO 3RD. TOOK TO DEALER TO ADDRESS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. ACTUALLY, THE SERVICE ADVISOR WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE, BUT THAT WAS NOT SUFFICIENT FOR THE DEALER TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AS THE ADVISOR IS NOT QUALIFIED ACCESS AN ISSUE. YET, EACH TIME I DROVE THE CAR IT HAPPENED. FINALLY AFTER SEVERAL DAYS I WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER IN THE CAR. THE BANG WAS LOUD, AND THE MANAGER DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS. AFTER SEVERAL MORE DAYS THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE A PROBLEM. MANY DIAGNOSTIC TESTS WERE PERFORMED ON THE TRUCK YET THERE WERE NO "CODES" SHOWING. I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THAT ANSWER AND WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP OWNER. AFTER A FEW DAYS WE WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITH HIM IN THE CAR. THEN WE HAD THE SERVICE DIRECTOR IN CAR AND DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. I HAD NO LESS THAN 4 EMPLOYEES OF THE DEALER DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. FINALLY, AFTER 25 DAYS IN THE SHOP, IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE ABS SYSTEM. APPARENTLY WHEN THE TUNDRAS START UP THEY WILL DO A ABS SELF TEST SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 10-20 MPH. MINE WAS APPARENTLY OVERTESTING. A PART WAS REPLACED IN MY CAR, AROUND A $3000 PART, AND AWAY I WENT. IT SEEMS TO BE LESS OF A BANG NOISE, BUT IT IS STILL THERE. TO SHOW THAT IT WAS "NORMAL," THE SERVICE DIRECTOR AND I TOOK RIDE IN A NEW TUNDRA OFF OF THE LOT. IT MADE THE SAME NOISE. The 2016 Toyota Frame Rust Settlement (Burns v. Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.): This $3.4 billion class action directly addresses premature corrosion in 2007–2008 Tundras (and similar models). It claims Toyota “knowingly failed to apply adequate rust protection,” leading to frame perforation despite later treatments like HOF. The settlement’s “recurrent perforation” clause applies even after HOF. My rusted-through fuel tank strap and holes in the rear cross member qualify. HOF RO# XXX. Claim #XXX My 2008 Tundra SR5 TRD was treated with HOF in Nov 2017. In November 2025 my mechanic told me the gas tank was falling out as the straps that hold the tank in place were completely rotted out. And rust perforation was on the rear cross member. He instructed me to get a safety inspection at a Toyota dealership to document the rust. Toyota of Waldorf didn’t even schedule a appt, they told me to call the Brand Engagement Center and that there was no possibility of repair because Toyota had no frames. Brand engagement refused to provide any guidance. I scheduled an inspection at Koons Toyota of Annapolis, which it failed inspection with multiple >10mm frame holes and a rusted-through tank strap (held by bungee). They deemed it unsafe to operate and unrepairable. They kept leaving out the information about the rust or the holes until they realized I was not leaving until they documented it properly. I have 3 versions. Despite ZH7 expiration, this is a post-HOF recurrence and safety hazard. I requested goodwill repurchase at 1.5x KBB (~$12k) under the settlement’s intent. The Brand Engagement Center had me call them and [XXX] ” announced she was my case manager, then almost as quickly announced it was going to “Internal Dept” for repurchase review, that she would no longer be my case manager, and that they would get back to me in 60 days. Standard Vehicle Components failed. My 2008 Tundra [VIN [XXX] ] was inspected in Nov 2017 under HOF/WEP, passed with CRC applied, but now has a 2-finger-wide perforation in the frame and rusted through the gas tank support—a clear safety defect in a salt state like Maryland. The undercoating failed prematurely; I need goodwill frame replacement or buyback per the $3.4B settlement’s spirit.” (reference the 2017 class action, case no. 3:14-cv-03538). Toyota Brand Engagement Center has refused my request for repair or replacement or buy back. They also refused to provide written refusal. They admitted to recording the conversation, but refused my request for a copy or to record the call myself. There is literally no rust on any other portion of my truck as it is garage kept. Took my truck in for maintenance and a bracket was hanging down. Dealer brought me back and showed me corrosion of mid framing and that gas bracket had rotted off. gave me a proposal of over $7000 to repair. I had said to them that I had the frame frame coated during the recall, and why weren't the cross members sprayed at that time. They replied Toyota said it was not needed. Did some research yesterday and found that rusting cross members was a problem, and that tire holders, and gas brackets were a problem. Called Toyota and they explained to me that certain vin #'s were covered but that mine was not. I asked them why my truck with the same issues was not covered? Was told corporate policy. SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SWITCHING VALVE FAILED WHILE CHANGING LANES CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO GO INTO CREEP MODE AND ALMOST CAUSE A COLISION WITH VEHICLE BEHIND ME DUE TO NO POWER. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS AND RE OCCURING ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN AROUND FOR SOME TIME AND I AM JUST NOW BEING MADE AWARE OF IT BY TOYOTA WHO CLAIMS THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. COULD HAVE DIED IN THIS CAR INCIDENT.

TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGES A PROBLEM WITH THEIR AIR INTAKE VALVE AND HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THE WARRANTY IS TOO SHORT, TOO LITTLE MILES, AND ONLY COVERS THE REPAIR ONE TIME. I ASKED TOYOTA ONLY FOR ASSISTANCE AND NOT THE COMPLETE REPAIR AND 3 REPS FLAT OUT SAID NO WE DID OUR PART. THEN AFTER MONTHS AND MANY HOURS ON THE PHONE, THEY TOOK THE ENGINE APART TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER TOOK PICTURES AND SENT THEM TO TOYOTA. THEY SAID A VALVE OR VALVE SPRING FELL THROUGH AND TORE EVERYTHING UP. IT NEEDED A NEW SHORT BLOCK AND RIGHT HEAD ($14,000). MY TRUCK WAS PARKED FOR 3 DAYS, THEN WHEN I STARTED THE ENGINE ALL OF THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON STEADY, AND 4LO LIGHT FLASHED, TRUCK WOULD NOT TRAVEL OVER 30 MPH AND BECAME VERY SLUGGISH. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN ONE WEEK, AND DISCONNECTING BATTERY FOR A FEW MINUTES CLEARED THE PROBLEM. TEMPERATURE IN UTICA, NY ON JAN 15 AT 10 AM WAS -10 DEGREES. A 5 HOUR RIDE BACK HOME IN SNOW, DIRT, AND RAIN I TRIED TO OPERATE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID ON THE HIGHWAY 90 WEST. THE MIRROR MODULE HAS NEVER WORKED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN DECEMBER OF 2007 WITH 100 MILES. THE DAY AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE (12/25/08), THE WINDSHIELD WAS HIT BY A ROCK WHICH CAUSED A CHIP. THE CHIP REPAIR DID NOT HOLD AND THE CHIP EXTENDED INTO A CRACK. THIS CRACK WENT ACROSS THE LOWER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD AND CURVED DOWN TOWARD THE DASH. I CALLED THE DEALER TO INQUIRE ABOUT REPAIR, AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT BUILT WITH A HEATED WINDSHIELD SO I ELECTED TO WAIT UNTIL THE END OF WINTER TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER I CAME OUT TO GO TO WORK, STARTED THE VEHICLE, AND TURNED ON THE HEATED MIRRORS. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND WENT TO OPEN MY GATE AND FEED THE DOG, UPON RETURNING TO THE TRUCK I SMELLED A BURNING ELECTRICAL ODOR. AT THIS TIME I NOTICED A FLASHING AND A FLAME COMING FROM THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. IT WAS BEGINNING TO GROW SO I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. I THEN CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY CAME AND TOWED THE VEHICLE IN TO THEIR SHOP. AFTER INVESTIGATING FURTHER IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MY TRUCK WAS INDEED BUILT WITH A HEATED WINDSHIELD, WHICH HAD SHORTED OUT FROM THE CRACK AND BURNED THE WINDSHIELD AND THE PASSENGER WIPER BLADE. I AM CONCERNED THAT TOYOTA HAS STATED THAT THIS IS NOT A DESIGN ISSUE AND IT IS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. THE EVENT WAS EXPERIENCED WITHIN 10 MINUTES/3.5 MILES AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP FOLLOWING DEALER-SERVICE WORK THAT INCLUDED, AMONG OTHER ITEMS, IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TOYOTA RECALL TO INSERT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SHIM (SSC). MY FOOT WAS WELL CENTERED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND NOT IN CONTACT AT ALL WITH THE THROTTLE PEDAL. THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN ENGINE SPEED AT THIS POINT. I THEN SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION FROM PARK TO DRIVE. AS SOON AS THE DRIVE POSITION WAS ENGAGED, WITH MY FOOT UNCHANGED FROM ITS FIRM POSITION ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE SPEED IMMEDIATELY WENT TO FULL THROTTLE. AS I HEARD THE ENGINE SPEED UP, I APPLIED FULL PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE TO HOLD THE VEHICLE IN ITS STATIONARY POSITION. THE REAR WHEELS BROKE LOOSE FROM THE PAVEMENT AND BEGAN SPINNING; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE REMAINED STATIONARY, HELD BY THE BRAKING OF THE FRONT WHEELS. ON 6/09/2020 THIS OWNER'S 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4.7L DASHBOARD LIGHTS LIT UP INCLUDING THE VSC, TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE AND 4 LO. THE 4 LO LIGHT WAS FLASHING. THE TRUCK WOULD NO LONGER GO PAST 3000 RPM. WRITER DROVE THE TRUCK HOME. IT WAS THEN TAKEN TO TARBOX TOYOTA FOR EVALUATION. THEY NOTIFIED WRITER THAT THE VEHICLE'S SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM REQUIRED REPAIR AND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH TOYOTA TUNDRAS. TOYOTA ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER VEHICLES IMPACTED BY THIS DEFECT. COST TO REPAIR IS $2300. TOYOTA WILL NOT ASSIST ME WITH THIS ISSUE BUT ADVISED ME TO STOP DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I STARTED MY TRUCK AND NOTICED THAT THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) LIGHT AND THE 4-HI AND 4-LO LIGHTS WERE FLASHING AS WELL. THE DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, HOWEVER, THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE WASHED TO REMOVE THE MUD AND ICE BEFORE TRAVELING. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE IN THE AREA IN WHICH HE RESIDED AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE SAID HE CALLED TOYOTA ALREADY EVEN THOUGH MY WARRANTY HAD LONG PASSED. HE STATED THAT TOYOTA HAD INCREASED THE WARRANTY ON THE BEARINGS TO A 5 YEAR/65,000 MILES. TOYOTA DID PAY ABOUT 1/4 TH OF THE COST. SEEMS AS THOUGH THEY KNOW THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE BEARING BUT NOT WILLING TO COVER THE TOTAL COST OF REPAIR. APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS AGO I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE BALL PARK HERE IN BECKLEY WEST VIRGINIA WHEN I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING HIGHER AND HIGHER ON ITS OWN SENDING ME AND MY DAUGHTER ON A 70 MPH RIDE. THE ONLY WAY I COULD STOP WAS TO PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE AND PUT VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL, EVENTUALLY THE PEDAL BECAME UNSTUCK AND I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO MY PLACE OF WORK LESS THAN A MILE AWAY AND PARKED IT. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY TOWED THE VEHICLE IN. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER THE SAFETY RECALL. TOYOTA AT THIS TIME CUT THE GAS PEDAL IN TWO AND ADDED CHEAPER FLOOR MATS. 7/29/09 DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH TRANSMISSION STARTED SHIFTING GEAR AND MPH WAS MOVING FROM 60 TO 80 UP AND BACK DOWN. APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKE , SHIFTED GEAR TO NEUTRAL BUT NO ACTIONS COULD STOP THE TOYOTA TRUCK. MY NEPHEW AND I JUMPED FROM THE TRUCK WHEN I DETERMINED THAT IT WAS SLOWING DOWN AND NO CARS WERE PASSING ON THE FREEWAY. IT CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP 1/2 MILE AWAY FROM WERE WE JUMPED. THE ENGINE HAD SMOKE COMING OUT AND IT REVVING UP AND DOWN. TOWED IT TO DEALER AND THEY SAID NO PROBLEM FOUND AND ACCUSED IT WAS THE FLOORMATS AFTER THEIR MASTER TECH LOOKED AT IT. WE TOOK BACK THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS AND A SECOND INCIDENT HAPPEN 1/15/10. I WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AND SUDDENLY THE TRUCK WAS ACCELERATED FROM 25 MPH TO 60 MPH. I PERFORMED ALL WAYS TO STOP THE TRUCK BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP. TO AVOID HITTING A BIG-RIG I HAD TO VERGE INTO AN EMBANKMENT. Years back there was a recall in regard to the frame. I brought the truck into Colonial Toyota in Milford CT for the recall. I was advised that the frame was fine and did not need to be replaced. Recently when i brought the truck in for an oil change the owner advised me that the gas straps attached to the frame had rusted out. He demanded that I remove the vehicle from his facility ASAP due to the excessive danger this created and not to drive the truck. He advised me to get rid of it. I reached out to a mechanic who advised that it could be welded back; however it would cost thousands of dollars to have that done. I contacted Toyota corporate to explain the situation and they advised me that there was nothing they could do to assist me with this issue. This truck had been well maintained and it ran perfectly with 280,000 miles. My goal was to run it to 400,000 miles as Toyota trucks tend to have a high mileage longevity when serviced as required. New A/C was replaced within the last three years; brakes/rotors/belts were replaced within the last 18 months. This truck was well maintained. Since this was my work truck I needed a vehicle ASAP and ended up purchasing a new 2024 Toyota Tundra which was an expense that I hadn't been expecting at all. I opted for the extended warranty option that was an EXTRA $3,000.00 to protect me and the new truck going forward. Toyota should be responsible for some of these additional expenses as it was TOYOTA who advised me during the RECALL that the frame was fine and DID NOT need to be replaced. Obviously that was not correct and they should be held responsible for the negative and very expensive outcome that this caused.

I was washing my truck October,1,2023 and while spraying the underside with water I noticed the fuel tank hanging extremely low from the back while further inspection I observed the rear fuel tank strap had rusted off and the tank was hanging by the front strap which is very corroded along with all inner structure and frame rails which is rusted corroded and completely rotted out. This truck has been very well maintained and has only 104354 miles on it.

I have multiple problems with the dash lights going on and off , have taken it to car repair when scanned and had replaced relays many times. I have read many stories of people having the same problem with toyota tundras and no one can figure it out. Toyota should have a recall for this because it is not just one or two people with this same exact problem, it is many toyota tundra owners going through the same problems that i' am experiencing.

Since November of 2021 I have my truck towed 20 times due to frame rusting out had it inspected at downeast Toyota in brewer a few years ago to have Frame replacement because all crossmembers where rusted so bed wasn't even on now can mounts completely gone . reason for towing so many tis frame had rusted away pinched wiring harness so I had to pay 1500 for repairs I was always told it was covered.

The air injection pumps went out. Vehicle could not get out of limp mode, was very dangerous as I couldnt get up to speed while merging onto traffic. Had to put hazards on and drive vehicle home under 25mph. Vehicles were going around me. Vehicle is scheduled to be looked at by a dealer, but still recommend this be a safety issue!!

There is significant rust on the frame of this 2008 Tundra. I am located in North Central WA State and they use compounds on the roads in the winter here similar to what is used in the northeast US. The rust is also on the steering mechanism and spare tire. I just had a flat tire and had to use the spare tire temporarily. This is a common problem reported on Tundra forums online and this truck should be covered under an ongoing repair mandate since the rust is damaging steering mechanism, brake lines, spare tire support system, etc. These are safety concerns.

I WAS KNOCK OUT APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 7 MINUTES, I MADE THIS ESTIMATE BY THE ARRIVAL OF WINTER PARK PD. I ALSO SUFFERED TWO FRACTURED RIBS ON MY RIGHT ARM PIT AREA AND ONE ON MY LEFT ARM PIT AREA, THIS WAS ACCORDING TO THE ER DOCTOR AND A FRACTURE OF MY L5 VERTEBRAE ACCORDING TO MY MRI REPORT. FOUR HERNIATED DISC AND SIX BULGING. IT IS MY SINCERE BELIEVE THAT SOME IF NOT ALL THIS PERSONAL INJURIES I SUFFERED WERE RELATED TO AN OVER PRESSURED AIR BAG SYSTEM. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON MY TRUCK, I FEEL A NEED TO REGISTER MY COMPLAINT. TOYOTA COVERED PART IN ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THIS COMPLAINT. FROM INTERNET, "SOME 2007-2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE POWER STEERING DTCS P0552 AND/OR P0553. THE POWER STEERING SENSOR HAS SINCE BEEN CHANGED TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION. THE OLD/PREVIOUS POWER STEERING SENSOR IS P/N 89448-34010. THIS HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH SENSOR P/N 89448-34020. USING TIS TECHSTREAM, CONFIRM THE CONDITION BY CHECKING FOR DTCS P0552 AND/OR P-553. DISCONNECT THE PRESSURE SENSOR CONNECTOR AND PROCEED WITH REMOVING THE POWER STEERING PRESSURE SWITCH, WHICH IS LOCATED AT THE POWER STEERING VANE PUMP AND IS MOUNTED TO THE HIGH PRESSURE FEED LINE. INSTALL THE NEW POWER STEERING PRESSURE SENSOR, TIGHTENING TO 15.2 FT.-LBS. (20.6 NM). WITH THE NEW SENSOR FULLY INSTALLED AND CONNECTED, START THE ENGINE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS. ADJUST POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL AS NEEDED."

I ALWAYS LEAVE THE TRUCK RUNNING WITH AC ON FOR THEM. I WAS BUSY WORKING ON A 2000 HINO MEDIUM DUTY TRUCK. MY TRUCK WAS PARKED NEXT TO THE HINO . I WAS IN THE HINO. I'M WRITING REGARDING MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA AND A RECENT REAR AXLE WHEEL BEARINGS FAILURE. THE TRUCK ITSELF IS IN METICULOUS CONDITION AND ONLY HAS 58,000 MILES ON IT. THE REASON FOR THE NOTE IS THAT I'VE SEEN ARTICLES INDICATING THERE HAS BEEN ISSUES AS WELL AS LOCATED A RELATED TOYOTA SERVICE BULLETINS. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THE BEARINGS THAT WERE INSTALLED WERE UPGRADED BEARINGS. TYPICALLY I WOULDN'T THINK TWICE, BUT KNOWING THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL AS THE OTHER INFORMATION WE HAVE FOUND, I'M CURIOUS IF NHTSA HAS DONE ANY INVESTIGATION OR HAS ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IT CAN SHARE? HOWEVER, THE DOORS WILL NO LONGER LOCK UNLESS I DO SO MANUALLY WITH EACH DOOR; THE POWER MECHANISM HAS FAILED. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THE CENTRAL RELAY AND CONTROLLER OF THE POWER LOCK SYSTEM IS OK; BUT THE POWER LOCK ACTUATOR (SMALL MOTOR) ON EACH DOOR HAS FAILED INDIVIDUALLY. I FIND IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO BELIEVE THAT EACH ONE OF THESE PARTS HAS FAILED IN THE SAME VEHICLE RELATIVELY EARLY IN THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE UNLESS THERE IS EITHER A FAULTY DESIGN OR EXTREMELY POOR QUALITY OF THE PARTS INVOLVED. I TRIED RESTARTING AND IT WOULD NOT. I CHECKED ALL THE INDICATERS AND EVERYTHING APPEARED NORMAL. FUEL GAUGE REGISTERED 1/4 FULL WHICH WOULD EQUATE TO APPROXIMATELY 5-7 GALLONS. AFTER EXHAUSTING ALL EFFORTS TO RESTART THE TRUCK I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED I EXPLAINED TO HIM WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND HE SUGGESTED IT MIGHT BE OUT OF GAS!!!...I SHOWED HIM THE FUEL GAGE INDICATOR SHOWING THE 1/4 LEVEL AND HE TOLD ME THAT HIS DAD ALSO HAD A TUNDRA AND HAD EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE FUEL TANK FLOAT HANGING GIVING FALSE READINGS OF WHAT THE ACTUAL FUEL LEVEL WAS. HE SUGGESTED WE TAKE THE TRUCK TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND PUT A FEW GALLONS IN PRIOR TO TAKING THE TRUCK TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. ONCE WE ADDED SOME GASOLINE THE TRUCK STARTED RIGHT UP. I WAS SHOCKED AND UPSET FOR A NUMBER OF REASON. 1. I JUST PAID A TOW SERVICE $75 DOLLARS FOR TAKING ME DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT A HALF BLOCK TO A LOCAL CONVENIENT STORE TO PUT GAS IN MY TRUCK. 2. I STARTED REALIZING WHAT A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE THIS IS. I COULD HAVE JUST AS WELL BEEN TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MILES PER HOUR AND HAVE MY ENGINE JUST QUIT ON ME!! I TRIED TO INSTALL A GRACO MYRIDE 65 REAR-FACING IN A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA, USING LATCH BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SEAT. I ATTACHED THE HOOKS OF THE GREY REAR-FACING LATCH BELT TO THE LATCH RINGS IN THE TRUCK, AND PULLED THE BELT TO TIGHTEN DOWN THE CAR SEAT. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE BELT TIGHT, BUT WHEN I PUSHED ON THE CAR SEAT TO CHECK FOR MOVEMENT, THE BELT LOOSENED COMPLETELY. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES, AND THE LATCH BELT WOULD TIGHTEN, BUT IT WOULD NOT STAY TIGHT. THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE WENT INTO LIMP MODE, WHICH REDUCES ENGINE POWER MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FROM THE EMISSIONS VALVE SET FAILING. WHEN REPAIRED BY DEALER THEY ALSO DISCOVERED A CRACKED MANIFOLD. THIS EMISSIONS VALVE SET FAILURE SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON ON 2008 TUNDRAS AND IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. TO MY SURPRISE THE MANIFOLD WAS CRACKED AND THAT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE EMISSIONS VALVE SET FAILURE. TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL THEIR EMISSIONS VALVE SET AND REDESIGN IT SO IT DOES NOT FAIL, AND IS LESS EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE, AND FINALLY THEY SHOULD NOT PROGRAM THE ENGINE TO GO INTO LIMP MODE IF THIS FAILURE OCCURS, AS IT CAN CAUSE YOU TO LOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING IN VARIOUS CONDITIONS THAT REQUIRE POWER TO GET OFF THE ROAD SAFELY.

THE 2007/2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS A DESIGN DEFECT WITH ITS AIR INJECTION PUMP THAT ALLOWS THE PUMP TO INJEST WATER WHEN DRIVING FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD IN RAINY WEATHER ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHEN THE WATER IS THEN TRANSFERRED TO THE SWITCHING VALVES. THE VEHICLE WILL LOOSE SPEED RAPIDLY ON A MEDIUM GRADE WITH NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. THE CRUISE CONTROL CAUSES THE TRANMISSION TO DOWNSHIFT REPEATEDLY TRYING TO ACCELERATE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AT HIGH SPEED. IN ADDITION THE VEHICLE STABLIZATION CONTROL IS DISABLED. THIS CONDITION ALSO SHORT CIRCUITS AND DISABLES 4W DRIVE AND CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. THE INABILITY TO MAINTAIN SPEED OR TO ACCELERATE CREATES A VERY HAZARDOUS CONDITION. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM CORRECTED TWICE AT A COST OF $1600. THE DEALER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE TO OCCUR BECAUSE OF A DESIGN FLAW. TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM IN A SERVICE BULLETIN TO THE DEALERSHIP (T-SB-039-08 REV 2 DATED 10/28/08). TOYOTA TUNDRA 2008 TRD REAR SWAY BAR FAILURE - REAR TRD SWAY BAR ASSEMBLY HARDWARE ON 2008 TUNDRA IS ACTUALLY CRACKING AND CAUSING A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND BENDING THE REAR BRAKE LINE TO THE POINT THAT IF I HAD NOT CAUGHT THE PROBLEM MY REAR BRAKES WOULD HAVE FAILED. I WAS UNDER MY TRUCK DOING A GENERAL INSPECTION AND NOTICED THAT MY LEFT REAR TRD BILSTIEN SHOCK WAS LEAKING. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WITHOUT HESITATION THEY ORDERED THE PART WITHOUT EVEN SEEING THE TRUCK. UNFORTUNATELY WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK IN TOYOTA HAD ORDERED A STANDARD SHOCK AND NOT A BILSTIEN SHOCK, SO I PICKED MY TRUCK BACK UP FROM THEM UNTIL THEY GOT THE CORRECT PART. A FEW DAYS LATTER I NOTICED A KNOCK COMING FROM MY TRUCK AND WHEN I HAD ISOLATED THE KNOCK I IDENTIFIED IT AS THE LEFT STRAP ON MY TRD SWAY BAR KIT. WHAT I CONCLUDED IS THAT THE LEFT REAR SHOCK LEAKING CAUSED TOO MUCH TRAVEL. THE EXTENSIVE TRAVEL OF THE SHOCK CAUSED TOO MUCH STRESS ON THE STRAP OF THE SWAY BAR KIT AND IN-TURN THE STRAP FAILED AND SPLIT IN HALF EXPOSING THE RUBBER BUSHING (I HAVE PICTURES OF THIS). I CALLED TOYOTA AND INFORMED THEM OF THE PROBLEM AND TALKED TO WALTER YAMAMOTO THE SERVICE WRITTER AT PIERCY TOYOTA OF MILPITAS CALIFORNIA. I TOLD WALTER THAT THE SWAY BAR WAS PRESSING ON THE REAR BREAK LINE AND HAD BENT IT UPWARDS AND WAS NOW LEANING AGAINST THE REAR BREAK LINE. AT NO TIME DID WALTER ADVISE ME TO TAKE THE TRUCK IN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I FINALLY GOT TO SCARED TO DRIVE THE TRUCK AND TOOK IT TOO TOYOTA AND ADVISED THEM THAT IT WAS TO MUCH OF A SAFETY ISSUED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK. I ASKED WALTER TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE SWAY BAR AND HE SAW THE ISSUE. I HAD CONTACTED A COUPLE OF OTHER PEOPLE THAT CONFIRMED THE SAME THING HAD HAPPENED TO THEIR TRUCKS, BUT WHEN I ASKED WALTER IF THIS HAD HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE HE REPLIED "NO". 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4WD 5.7L FAILURE BEGAN FEB OF 2010 TRUCK ENTERED "LIMP MODE" AND WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. PROBLEM DETERMINED TO BE "BANK 2 VALVE STUCK OPEN FOR SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM" ON MY VEHICLE. TRUCK HAS ENTERED IN AND OUT OF LIMP MODE CONSISTENTLY FOR UP TO A WEEK AT A TIME SINCE ISSUE SURFACED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT. WHEN I GOT IN TO GO TO WORK IN THE MORNING SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE SLIP, BRAKE, 4X4 HI AND LO, VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL, AND LSD LIGHTS STAYED ON UNTIL I STOPPED AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON. WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE THE LIGHTS WERE OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SIX TIMES IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS. TWO OTHER TIMES THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON AND STAYED ON UNTIL I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN AN ACCELERATION ISSUE. THIS COMPLIANT COMPLIMENTS THE CURRENT TOYOTA RECALL THAT IS RELATED TO THE STICKING ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE PEDAL IN MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOES NOT GET STUCK AT ACCELERATION POINT BUT IS STICKY DURING THE ACCELERATION PROCESS. THIS IS A PHYSICAL ISSUE THAT IS RELATED TO THE PEDAL MOVEMENT AS DEPRESSED FROM A STOPPED POSITION. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 70 % OF THE TIME SINCE I OWNED THE VEHICLE (PURCHASED NEW). TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE WEATHER WAS HUMID, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS DRIVING 5 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON FOR A WEEK AT A TIME, THEN IT WOULD GO OFF FOR A COUPLE DAYS, THEN BACK ON 3 MORE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THE OWNER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR TESTING. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE COMPUTER WAS NOT SHOWING A CODE SO THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,5000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HESITATE DURING TAKE OFF AS WELL AS DURING COLD TEMPERATURES AND THE ENGINE MADE A RATTLE SOUND. THE RADIO WOULD COME ON AND CHANGE STATIONS BY ITSELF. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK EVEN BEFORE A RECALL WAS ISSUED. THE BLOWER MOTOR DID NOT ALWAYS WORK PROPERLY, THE RE-CIRCULATOR WOULD SHUT OFF BY ITSELF EVEN IF THE BUTTON WAS HELD DOWN FOR 3 SECONDS. UPDATED 04/20/10

I HAVE A STRONG BELIEF AFTER MY EXPERIENCE THAT TOYOTA HAS A DEFECT WITH "SPEED SENSOR WIRES' AND MAY KNOW AND IS KEEPING IT UNDER WRAPS. MAYBE BECAUSE OF SAFETY PROBLEMS OR THAT IT'S CONTRIBUTING TO A SHORT CIRCUIT AND UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AS PROFESSOR GILBERT HAD DEMONSTRATED ON ABC WITH WHAT COULD HAPPEN WITH A SHORT CIRCUIT IN SOME TOYOTA VEHICLES. SOMEONE FROM TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS THAT WAS VISITING MY DEALERSHIP PERSONALLY INVESTIGATED MY 2008 TUNDRA'S SPEED SENSOR WIRES WHICH ON ONE SIDE HAD COMPLETELY FAILED (SNAPPED COMPLETELY THROUGH) AND WAS FAILING ON THE OTHER SIDE (PARTIALLY BROKEN THROUGH) AT THE SAME SPOT. TOYOTA CHOSE TO REPAIR BOTH BUT RATHER CLASSIFIED THE REPAIRS AS A 'COURTESY REPLACEMENT' VERSUS UNDER THE VEHICLES WARRANTY. THIS I HAVE A STRONG BELIEF WAS DONE TO KEEP IT OFF THE BOOKS BACK AT HEADQUARTERS AND UNDER WRAPS. THIS HAPPENED IN JAN OF 2010. OTHER INDICATIONS THIS IS WIDER SPREAD BUT UNREALIZED AS TO BEING A DEFECT PROBLEM: 1) THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO WAIT A LONG TIME BECAUSE THEY HAD A HARD TIME RETRIEVING REPLACEMENT PARTS, PROBABLY LOW ON STOCK DUE TO OTHER REPLACEMENTS. 2) THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAD REPAIRED ANOTHER TUNDRA AT THE SAME LOCATION FOR THE SAME PROBLEM RIGHT BEFORE MINE, WHICH I HEARD ABOUT THROUGH A CONTACT. 3) INTERNET SEARCH INDICATIONS. NOTE: AT FIRST GLANCE A TORN OR SPLIT WIRE MAY APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY ROAD DEBRIS OR IN THE CASE OF A VEHICLE CRASH IF WIRE ALREADY WAS EXHIBITED PROBLEMS MAY BE THOUGHT TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY AN IMPACT IF DISCOVERED AFTER AN IMPACT. BECAUSE OF THESE TWO REASONS IF THIS PROBLEM IS A DEFECT IT MAY EXPLAIN WHY IT'S NOT REPORTED SO READILY. THAT'S MY FEAR. FROM MY FINDINGS I'M CONVINCED WHAT IS CREATING THIS DEFECT IS IN DESIGN. THE WIRE PASSES THROUGH A HARNESS WHICH IS CLAMPED DOWN TO THE FRAME AND THE A-ARM WHICH PIVOTS UP AND DOWN TUGGING ON THE WIRE WHICH IS ALSO NEAR THE HOT MANIFOLD AND AFTER TIME THE CONSTANT BENDING AND TUGGING BREAKS DOWN THE SPEED SENSOR WIRE. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE TIRES WERE BECOMING WORN AND NEEDED CONSTANT ROTATION. TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURES, BUT DOES NOT HAVE A REMEDY. THEY SUGGESTED THAT THE ROAD CONDITIONS MAY BE AT FAULT. I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA TRUCK 5.7 V8 EXTENDED CAB 4X4 MY WIFE AND I DROVE FROM CHANDLER AZ TO IDAHO ,THEN TO YELLOWSTONE, THEN BACK TO SALT LAKE AND THEN TO PHOENIX AZ TILL THEN EVER THING WAS GREAT THE TRUCK RAN VERY WELL. WE COMING DOWN INTERSTATE 17 FROM FLAGSTAFF TO PHOENIX ABOUT 3/4 OF THE TO PHOENIX. I WAS TRAVELING AT THE SPEED LIMIT AT 75 MPH AND HAD JUST PUNCHED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO PASS A CAR WHILE GOING UP HILL. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND WOULD NOT RELEASE BACK AS NORMAL . THE TRUCK PROCEED TO ACCELERATE TO 90 MPH AND AT THIS POINT I AGAIN PUSHED 5-6 TIMES ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO HAVE IT RELEASE BUT IT CONTINUED TO GO FASTER TO 100 MPH AT THIS POINT I KNEW WE IN DEEP TROUBLE AND DANGER. I WAS PUSHING HARD ON THE BRAKE AND TRYING TO MOVE FROM THE LEFT LANE IN TRAFFIC AT NIGHT TO THE RIGHT LANE TO TRY AND STOP THE TRUCK . I GOT TO THE RIGHT LANE AND TO THE SHOULDER AND HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WAS STAMPING HARD ON THE BREAK PEDAL AND TRYING TO SHIFT OUT OF GEAR TO NEUTRAL . IN THE PANIC I AM NOT SURE WHAT ALL HAPPENED BUT THE TRUCK LUNGED FORWARD VERY HARD THEN DIED / ENGINE STOPPED . I STARED THE ENGINE AND TESTED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND IT SEEMED TO BE FINE , I CHECKED FOR THE LOGICAL THINGS LIKE THE HEAVY RUBBER FLOOR MAT, HAD IT GOT PUSHED UP ON THE PEDAL BUT THIS WAS NOT THE CASE AS IT WAS 4 INCHES AWAY AND IT HAS RUBBER KNOBS OR STUDS THAT PUSH INTO THE CARPET AND WILL NOT SLIDE ALSO MY LEFT FOOT WAS FIRMLY PLANTED ON THE MAT AT ALL TIMES . NO WAY THAT MAT WAS THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS NO DIRT ETC AS THE ACCELERATOR HAS A HEAVY SPRING AND THE PEDAL IS 3-4 INCHES OFF THE CARPET. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS AS IT SCARED US A LOT AND WE HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE IN THIS TRUCK AND TOYOTA. *TR ALSO, THE BATTERY SHORTED OUT INTERNALLY. UPDATED 11/13/09
