The contact owns a 2012 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the light stayed illuminated while driving. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent certified mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the secondary air injectors needed to be replaced. The mechanic informed the contact that the manufacturer had offered an Extended Warranty Program to cover the failure under "Warranty Enhancement Program ZG6" for "Air Injection Pumps and Air Switching Valves" and that the warranty had expired several months prior. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

Secondary air injection system failed May 2019. ALL dash warning lights came on. Researched on-line and found truck would not have accelerated past “limp mode” (25-30 mph). Had to have vehicle towed to local Toyota dealer as I was over 40 miles from home (all highway). Toyota dealer diagnosed secondary air injection system failure. Cost to repair OVER $3000. Toyota has acknowledged this is a KNOWN design problem on the Tundra “big” V8s but refuses to recognize this is a design problem on the 2012 4.6L V8 models. Local dealer stated “we have lots of these lying around the shop so no problem getting the part.” Indicating this is a common problem/repair. Spoke directly with Toyota Corporate office who refused to acknowledge design fault or reimburse for repair. This is a HUGE safety issue caused by a known Toyota design problem that needs to be investigated by NHTSA. Toyota MUST be help accountable for this problem and made to correct the problem with a "recall".

Secondary air injection system failed June 2018. Vehicle went into limp mode on highway, a dangerous situation as you go from 70 to 30 MPH rather suddenly. Alamo Toyota dealership in San Antonio stated code PO418 and needs to have air pumps and valves replaced. Cost estimate of $3362.57. Toyota has acknowledged this is a design problem on certain Toyota Tundras but fails to recognize this is an issue on the 2012 4.6L V8 models. Toyota needs to take responsibility that this is still an issue with the 2012 4.6L V8 models.

Check engine light which when checked revealed Air pump and air control valve failures. This is a known problem with 2006-2011 Tundras that Toyota issued an extended warranty for 10 years or 150,000 to replace these parts. There was additional extended warranty for 2012 with 5.7 Liter engine but not the 4.6 liter engine. Safety issue is when total failure occurs vehicle goes into limp mode with max speed of 25MPH which would be bad at highway speeds. Code was run by repair facility and copy is enclosed. Email was sent to Toyota corporate and upon phone call follow up, Toyota refused to do anything towards the defect.

2012 Toyota Tundra Cam Carrier seal/cam tower leak on Passenger side. THE CONSUMER STATED ONCE THE OIL PRESSURE BECOMES HIGHER THAN THE BOND HOLDING THE SEAL ELEMENT, IT BEGINS TO LEAK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE.

The fuel pump failed on my Tundra. Several dashboard check engine lights suddenly lit up to warn me of the issue. While I was able to safely get it to a mechanic to repair the independent Toyota certified mechanic I use shared they have seen a volume of these where the car stops immediately with the Fuel pump failing completely. I was lucky as the day prior to this I was driving through mountain passes on the highway in Colorado. I have since found out from the feedback from my mechanic that they have repaired a volume of these, and it is a known issue by Toyota who issued a technical service bulletin. The fuel pump needs to be replaced with a different specification - the original pump is not sufficient. My concern is putting driver/passenger safety at risk with a complete fuel pump failure while driving. I consider this a near-miss for me, and would worry about others that are about to have this issue.

THE TRAC OFF LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CANS ON AT THE SAME TIME. I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 10 YEARS OF 150,000 MILES. IF IT WAS THE SECONDARY VALVES AND AIR PUMPS. I GOT A CALL BACK AND THEY SAID IT WAS, BIG MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THIS IS AN ISSUES WITH 100S OF TUNDRAS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GO OVER 60 OR GET TO 60 SAFELY. THE TOYOTA BLOGS ARE FULL OF TUNDRA OWNERS COMPLAINING. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

MY 2012 TUNDRA HAD A TRAC OFF AND ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM FOR NUMEROUS TOYOTA TUNDRA IN REGARDS TO FAILURE OF THE SECONDARY AIR VALVES AND PUMPS. I WAS TOLD MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT ON THE 10 YEAR , 150,000 MILE WARRANTY FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. I URGE YOU TO FORCE TOYOTA TO ADD MY VIN NUMBER TO THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. MY VEHICLE CANNOT GO OVER 60 AND BE SAFE. IT WAS RAINING AND RAIN GOT INTO THE PUMP SYSTEM. TOYOTA HAS REPLACED THOUSANDS OF THESE BADLY DESIGNED SYSTEM AND MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE. IT COST OVER $2,000 TO REPLACE BADLY DESIGNED SYSTEM.

2012 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4.6 L AT 101,000 MILES WENT INTO LIMP MODE CAUSING A LACK OF POWER AND ACCELERATION DURING CITY DRIVING WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A REAR END COLLISION. WAS ABLE TO LIMP VEHICLE TO NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM WAS FAULTY. COST TO REPAIR WAS MORE THAN I WANTED TO PAY BEINGTHAT I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE TRUCK WITHIN THE PAST MONTH OR SO. TOYOTA DID NOT COVER THE REPAIR SO A BYPASS KIT WAS INSTALLED AT MY EXPENSE TO GET THE TRUCK BACK UNDER POWER. CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY ADVISED THAT THE SYSTEM WAS NOT COVERED HOWEVER IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT ON 2010 MODELS AND OTHERS THE WARRANTY ON THE SYSTEM WAS EXTENDED TO 150,000 BUT NOT ON THE 2012 4.6L ENGINES THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE OTHERS.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2012 Toyota Tundra. The contact discovered a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the mileage was 137,355. The contact stated that while inspecting the glove box, the contact found three receipts that showed three different odometer readings. The contact then ordered a Carfax report and discovered that the mileage on the Title on October 4, 2025, was 252,307.

The horn no longer works on the vehicle. I can no longer alert drivers who do not see me while driving or in parking lots. My auto shop confirmed the horn did not work and estimated the repair. There were no warnings.

The horn can not be operated by the steering wheel. The horn still works when the panic alarm is pressed. According to several forums that I have visited, it’s a common issue with the steering column rubbing the insulation off of the wire. I believe that if this is that common of an issue, it should be reported, and hope that it will be addressed by a recall.

WHEN IN MOTION THE VEHICLE ENTERS LIMP MODE AND LOSES POWER. ACCELERATION BY PEDAL DOES NOT FUNCTION, THE ENGINE ONLY REVS AND DOES NOT SPEED UP. THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN TO ANYWHERE FROM 25 TO 5 MILES PER HOUR ON ITS OWN WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE BRAKE AND THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T SHIFT. THIS HAPPENS ANYWHERE, HIGHWAY, STREET, DRIVING STRAIGHT, TURNING, ETC. NO WARNING. I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM EQUATES TO SOMEONE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND SLAMMING ON THEIR BRAKES WITH NO BRAKE LIGHTS!! I COULD HAVE LOST MY LIFE TODAY! I TRADED MY 2012 TOYOTA TUNDRA FOR $17,000.00. BLUE BOOK 'TRADE-IN' VALUE WAS APPROXIMATELY $20,000.00 - $21,000.00 AT THE TIME. MY TRUCK HAD LOW MILEAGE AND WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, EXCEPT FOR THE UNDERCARRIAGE RUST. I LOST $3,000.00 - $4,000.00 IN THE TRADE-IN.

A LIGHT CAME ON AND IT STARTED LOSING POWER. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS BAD GAS. I PUT THE CLEANER IN IT AND IT DIDN'T FIX IT. I HAD SOME BUDDIES TELL ME TO UNPLUG MY BATTERY BECAUSE IT SOUNDED LIKE A SAFETY FEATURE. SO I DID. THE LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE TRUCK ACTED RIGHT FOR A FEW MILES THEN STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY. MY BUDDIES REFERRED TO IT AS A "LIMP MODE" OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. I WAS AFRAID TO HAVE IT WORKED ON BECAUSE I WAS TOLD IF THERE WAS A RECALL THE MANUFACTURER WOULDN'T BE LIABLE.

The truck has paint peeling from it. There is currently a recall out for other models of Toyota with the same paint type as mine. Toyota says that the Tundra is not affected by this recall. I took the truck to Toyota they took down a report and told me to call the cooperate office to report it as well.

THE BOTTOM CORNERS OF BOTH DOORS COME TO A VERY SHARP POINT. BOTH OF US HAVE SUSTAINED NASTY CUTS ON OUR SHINS WHEN GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE TRUCK SEVERAL TIMES. THERE SHOULD BE A DIFFERENT DESIGN TO REMOVE THE SHARP POINTS YOU CAN'T AVOID IT AT LEAST PUT DURABLE PROTECTION OVER THE SHARP EDGE.

MY 2012 TUNDRA CREW CAB HAS SEVERE RUST AT THE REAR AXLE MOUNTING PLATES OF THE BED. THE RUST IS CORRODING FROM THE UNDERSIDE THROUGH THE BED. TOYOTA INDICATES MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL SERIES DESPITE THE BED RUST BEING IN THE EXACT LOCATION OF A PRIOR RECALL.

RUST IS BUBBLING UNDER PAINT ON TRUCK BED NEAR REAR T51 BED BOLTS WHERE THE SPOT WELDS ARE LOCATED. RUST APPEARS TO BE COMING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH SEAM SEALING IN AREA AS WELL. NO RUST IS VISABLE UNDERNEATH OF VEHICLE. A TSB ON THIS ISSUE WAS SENT OUT FOR 2007-2011 MODEL TUNDRAS THIS VEHICLE IS A 2012 WITH SAME ISSUE.

Wife was driving truck and immediately went into limp mode on the highway. Check engine light came on, no accelerating then died. Had to get it towed. This is the 3rd incident with this issue.

MY TRUCK HAS BEEN HAVING HARD START ISSUES SINCE WINTER 2017. I FIGURED IT WAS MY BATTERY SO I REPLACED IT, BUT IT DIDNT HELP. THE HARD START WASN'T CONSISTENT SO I CHOSE TAKE SOME TIME TO SEE IF ANY OTHER PROBLEMS SURFACED. GOT THROUGH WINTER 2018 AND SPRING/SUMMER 2019 WITH IT STILL STARTING ROUGH ON OCCASION. BY OCTOBER 2019 MY TRUCK REACHED APPROX 78K MILES, AND ONE DAY IT DIDN'T START AT ALL. TOOK THREE TRIES TO GET IT GOING. I HAD THE BATTERY CHECKED ONCE AGAIN. IT TESTED BAD BUT IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY SO I HAD I LT SWAPPED OUT. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THIS TIME IT GAVE ME AN ENGINE LIGHT. MECHANIC SAID IT WAS AN 'EVAP CODE' AND RECOMMENDED I REPLACE THE GAS CAP TO START. CODE DIDNT RETURN BUT STILL HARD STARTING. TOOK ALMOST TWO MONTHS AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THIS TIME P1604 STARTABILITY MALFUNCTION. WAS TOLD I HAD TO TAKE IT TO TOYOTA TO GET A REFLASH. I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH AND CAME ACROSS THE PROBLEMS TUNDRA OWNERS WERE HAVING WITH THIS FFV DENSITY SENSOR MALFUNCTION. PRINTED THE OLD SERVICE BULLETINS AND WENT TO TOYOTA TO TALK TO SERVICE DEPT ABOUT IT. THEY SAID TOYOTA JUST PUT OUT A NEW SERVICE BULLETIN IN DECEMBER 2019 FOR THE REFLASH BUT NOW ALSO REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP (TOYOTA TOLD ME DENSITY SENSOR ATTACHED TO THE PUMP). UNFORTUNATELY TOYOTA ALSO TOLD ME THEY WON'T COVER THE COST SINCE MY TRUCK HAD JUST GONE OVER 80K MILES, AND THEY ARE NOT FLEXIBLE WITH THAT AT ALL, EVEN THOUGH I TOLD THEM IT STARTED BEFORE 80K. T-SB-0166-19. SO I GOT PRICES. THE REFLASH IS ABOUT $140 AND JUST THE COST OF THE PUMP ITSELF IS $600, NOT INCLUDING LABOR. I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE TOYOTA USA CUSTOMER CARE TEAM AND THEY SAID THEY CANT HELP ME SINCE I DIDNT TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE IT. APPARENTLY IT DOESNT MATTER IF YOU HAVE SERVICE RECORDS FROM ANOTHER SHOP. THIS IS MY 3RD TOYOTA, AND I LOVE MY TRUCK SO THIS BREAKS MY HEART.

WHILE DRIVING, MULTIPLE DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON AND MY TRUCK WENT INTO "LIMP MODE," MEANING I LOST ALMOST ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. TURNS OUT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE AIR INJECTION PUMP, WHICH IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN TOYOTA TUNDRAS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA NEEDS TO ADDRESS.

MONDAY, JANUARY 15TH I DROVE AT 65 MPH TO WORK AT AND HOME ON THE FREEWAY WITH NO PROBLEMS. TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY THE TRUCK WAS STATIONARY DUE TO COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS IN HOUSTON, TEXAS. THURSDAY MORNING THE 18TH, I DROVE AT 65 MPH TO WORK VIA FREEWAY WITH NO PROBLEMS. AFTER LUNCH I DROVE AT 45 MPH BACK TO WORK ON A STREET AND NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON AND SIMULTANEOUSLY THE TRUCK THEN STARTING DRIVING EXTREMELY SLUGGISH AND AND FAR BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT OBSTRUCTING THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. I CAREFULLY GOT OVER AND DROVE THE TRUCK ONLY ALLOWED AT 30 MPH BACK TO THE OFFICE. AFTER CAREFULLY DRIVING HOME VIA STREET AT THE END OF THE DAY I GOT HOME AND REMOVED THE NEGATIVE WIRE FROM BATTERY AND RE-CONNECTED IT TO SEE IF THIS WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE. AFTER DOING SO, THE RESULTS WERE THE LIGHTS IN THE DASH WERE NOW OFF AND THE TRUCK DROVE PROPER WITH NO HINDRANCE. THIS WOULD LAST UNTIL WEDNESDAY 24TH. BOTH LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND THE TRUCK STARTED AGAIN DRIVING SLUGGISHLY. ITS SEEM THAT WHEN THE LIGHT IS OFF THE TRUCK DRIVES FINE, BUT WHEN IT IS TRIGGERED THE TRUCK IS DRIVES EXTREMELY SLUGGISH. COULD THE BE A DEFECTIVE PART? ANY HELP WOULD BE USEFUL.

AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE RAISED PAST RED LINE RPM FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. AFTER SLOWING, I STARTED TO BACK OUT DRIVE WHEN ENGINE RAISED AGAIN INTO RED LINE RPM. BEFORE I GOT IT PULLED BACK INTO DRIVE, IT RAISED 3 MORE TIMES. EACH TIME I MANAGED TO GET TO NEUTRAL.

I WAS DRIVING AND ALL THE SUDDEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND ALMOST WAS IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF NO POWER STEERING. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND LOOKED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT OF MY TIE ROD BOOT. I IMMEDIATELY GOT TO MY TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY AUTOMATICALLY KNEW WHAT IT WAS, THE RACK AND PINION BLEW OUT. SO CLEARLY IT'S A TOYOTA THING I FIGURED. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT FIXED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY BUT I STARTED DOING RESEARCH ON FORUMS AND MANY FACEBOOK GROUPS DEVOTED TO TOYOTA TUNDRAS AND DAILY I SEE MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THEIR RACK AND PINION GOING OUT AND DAYS AFTER MY FRIEND ALSO HAD HIS GO OUT ON HIS TUNDRA. THIS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM TOYOTA HAS AND IT EITHER NEEDS TO BE RECALLED OR FIXED SOMEHOW SO PEOPLE CAN BE SAFE AND NOT ALMOST GET IN AN ACCIDENT LIKE I DID. WHEN TOYOTA EVEN ACKNOWLEDGES IT AND REFUSES TO NOT FIX IT, THAT THROWS THE RED FLAG RIGHT THERE AND THEY CLEARLY UNDERSTAND IT'S A PROBLEM. THE FIX AMOUNTED TO $1937 DOLLARS ALSO.

THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT STAY CENTERED AND THE POSITION WOULD CHANGE. I NOTICED THAT WHEN I WAS STOPPED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL HAD SOME MOVEMENT FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I CHECKED THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK DOWN NUT AND IT WAS TIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A SPLINE BUSHING THAT MATCHES UP WITH A MATCHING SPLINE ON THE SHAFT SO I COULD NOT SEE HOW THIS COULD MOVE. I REMOVED THE LOCKING NUT SO I COULD SEE THE WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL AND SHAFT CONNECT TOGETHER. WITH THE NUT OFF I NOTICED THAT THE SPLINE BUSHING DID NOT MOVE BUT THE STEERING WHEEL DID MOVE ON THE BUSHING. THERE WAS A POTENTIAL DANGER OF THE STEERING WHEEL COMING LOOSE SO THAT I WOULD LOSE CONTROL OR WORSE YET THE STEERING WHEEL COULD COME COMPLETELY OFF THE COLUMN. THIS PROBLEM CAN EASILY BE CHECKED AS I DID WITH THE STEERING WHEEL IN THE LOCKED POSITION. IF YOU HAVE ANY MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL IN THE LOCKED POSITION GET IT CHECKED IMMEDIATELY.

TOYOTA TUNDRA POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING MY TRUCK THE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION FAILED. I HEARD A POP SOUND AND PULLED OFF THE CITY ROAD TO INSPECT MY VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 47,000 MILES AT THIS TIME.

MY TRUCK IS A 2012 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4X4 LIMITED. IT HAS 100,000 MILES ON IT. I TYPICALLY ONLY DRIVE IT ON THE WEEKENDS. I WAS DRIVING AND MADE A TURN, ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST POWER STEERING. THE ACCORDION BOOT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS FULL OF POWER STEERING FLUID. IT BLEW A SEAL ON THE STEERING ROD. THE WHOLE RACK AND PINION HAD TO BE REPLACED. 18 HOUR LABOR JOB, AND WITH PARTS $3000.00. I ALMOST GOT INTO A ACCIDENT BECAUSE I COULDN'T TURN IT. YOU HAVE TO DROP THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY TO CHANGE IT THAT'S WHY IT COST SO MUCH. THIS HAS TO BE A FACTORY DECFECT. ANY INPUT?

A GRINDING NOISE BEGAN TO DEVELOP IN THE REAR END OF THE TRUCK. THE NOISE WAS MOST NOTICEABLE BETWEEN 30 AND 60 MPH. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THEY DETERMINED THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS HAD FAILED. THESE BEARINGS ARE SEALED, REQUIRE NO MAINTENANCE, AND SHOULD BE DESIGNED TO LAST THE LIFETIME OF THE TRUCK. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE A BEARING FAILURE COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE FOUND A NUMBER OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS REPORTED ON INTERNET TUNDRA FORUMS, WHICH INDICATES THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM.

I TOOK MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER ON A COUPLE OF RUNS THREW THE MUD IN OUR 2012 TOYOTA TUNDRA CREWMAX 4X4 TRD. THE RUNS WERE NO LONGER THAN 2-3 MINUTES OF FUN WITH ZERO PROBLEMS. I DID NOT HAVE TIME TO RUN OUR TRUCK THREW A CAR WASH. I PLANNED ON GETTING IT WASHED THE NEXT DAY AFTER WORK. ON MY TO WORK THE FOLLOWING DAY OUR TRUCK SHOWED NO SIGNS OF PROBLEMS UNTIL I ENTERED THE FREEWAY AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. AT THAT POINT OF TIME I COULD "FEEL" THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY . I CALLED AVONDALE TOYOTA IMMEDIATELY INFORMING THEM THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY TRANSMISSION. THEY SET AN APPOINTMENT UP FOR FRIDAY THE 7TH OF MARCH. I INFORMED TOYOTA THAT I WOULD PREFER TO DROP THE VEHICLE OFF WHEN I FINISHED WORK BECAUSE I FELT LIKE DRIVING IT WOULD ONLY CAUSE MORE ISSUES IF ANY. TODAY I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM AVONDALE TOYOTA INFORMING THE TRANSMISSION "BURNED UP" AND IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH OUR VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY. THEIR WARRANTY REP BASED HIS OPINION ON PICTURES, STILL DIRTY FROM GOING THREW MUD, AND CONCLUDED THE TRANSMISSION WAS "ABUSED" AND TOYOTA IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR "ABUSE." I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO AVONDALE TOYOTA AND SPKE WITH[XXX] AND THE MECHANIC WHO LOOKED AT THE TRANSMISSION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT ALL FLUID LEVELS WERE NORMAL, TEMPERATURE LEVELS ARE NORMAL AND NO TRANSMISSION CODES WERE TRIPPED. ZERO!!! A GEAR BROKE IN THE TRANSMISSION AND TELLING CUSTOMERS THE TRANSMISSION "BURNED" UP IS AN EASIER WAY TO INFORM CUSTOMERS.IT IS THEIR ASSUMPTION THAT I GOT STUCK IN MUD AND "ATTEMPTED TO ROCK THE VEHICLE BY MOVING THE SHIFTER BACK AND FORTH FROM DRIVE AND REVERSE WHILE I WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR." SOME WITH AS LOW AS 30K MILES. I HAD AROUNF 89K, BUT A MASTER CYLINDER SHOILD HOLD UP TO AT LEAST 125K MILES. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG CAME ON WHEN MY SON AND I WENT ON A TRIP TO OUR CABIN. WE STOPPED TO GET GAS, MY SON GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK AND THE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER THE AIRBAG TURNED OFF ON US AT ALMOST THE EXACT SAME PLACE ON OUR TRIPS TO THE CABIN 5 MORE TIMES OVER A YEAR WITH NO FIX TO THE PROBLEM I ASKED THE DEALER TO COME UP WITH A PLAN TO ADDRESS THE ONGOING SAFETY PROBLEM. SHE SAID THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SETS THE STANDARDS AND THERE IS NOTING THEY CAN DO TO ADJUST THEM. I ASKED IF SHE COULD SEND ME THE AIRBAG SENSOR WEIGHT SINSITIVITY SETTINGS SHE DID NOT RESPOND TO THE REQUEST. I THEN ASKED HER TO PUT TOYOTA'S POSITION IN WRITING, AND THE REP. TOLD ME THAT "YOUR MAINTENANCE RECEIPT IS YOUR COMMUNICATION". THAT IS THE ONLY THING THEY WILL GIVE ME. I HAVE A DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH THIS AIRBAG, AND TOYOTA WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECT. I NEED HELP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED HERE.

2012 TUNDRA 4.6 V8 MY TRUCK WILL GO INTO LIMP MODE AND THE 4LO LIGHT FLASHES, CHECK ENGINE, AND TRAC OFF LIGHTS WERE ALL ON. ALMOST COMPLETE LOSE OF POWER WILL HAPPEN. IN TRAFFIC I END UP BLOCKING EVER VEHICLE BEHIND ME, BECAUSE THE TRUCK WILL NOT REACH THE SPEED LIMIT. IF THERE IS A HILL THEN THE TRUCK BARELY MOVES GOING UP THE HILL. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE I SAW IT'S A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM ON TOYOTA WITH THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP SEIZING. I CHECKED IT WITH THE CODE READER AT A LOCAL SHOP AND THE GUY CONFIRMED IT, CODE P2240 "AIR INJECTION SWITCHING VALVE STUCK OPEN BANK 1." HE TOLD ME HE USED TO WORK FOR TOYOTA AND KNEW THERE WAS THE EXTENDED REPAIR ON THIS ISSUE BUT COULDN'T RECALL THE SPECIFICS. I WENT INTO TOYOTA AND UNFORTUNATELY THEY WILL NOT COVER IT FOR MY TRUCK AFTER THEY RAN MY VIN NUMBER. IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF TUNDRAS WITH THE 5.7L MOTOR ARE COVERED BUT THE 4.6L MOTORS ARE NOT. I WAS INFORMED BY TOYOTA THAT IN THE FUTURE IT MIGHT BE COVERED.

I WAS MERGING INTO TRAFFIC ON TO MASS 93 HIGHWAY WHEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TRAC OFF LIGHT AND BLINKING 4 LOE CAME ON. THE ENGINE WENT INTO LIMP MODE GREATLY REDUCING MY POWER AND I LOST CONTROL AND. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE LANE. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE NEXT EXIT AND GET TO A MECHANICS SHOP. THEY HOOKED UP A ANALYSIS COMPUTER AND CAME BACK WITH MAINTENANCE CODE P2432, SECONDARY AIR PUMPS AND SECONDARY AIR PUMP VALVES. I FOUND OUT THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH TOYOTA TUNDRAS GOING BACK TO 2007 MODELS. THE WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED ON 2007 - 2010 MODELS BUT NOT NEWER MODELS WHICH ARE STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM.I FEEL THIS PROBLEM CONSTITUTES A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO THE DRASTIC REDUCTION IN POWER WHICH COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT DEPENDING ON WHEN THE PARTS IN QUESTION FAIL.

MY 2012 TOYOTA TUNDRA IS EQUIPPED WITH TOYOTA'S VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC). ONE OF THE FEATURES OF THE VSC IS WHEN THE COMPUTER PERCEIVES A LOSS OF TRACTION, THE COMPUTER (WITHOUT THE DRIVER'S CONSENT) ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THE LOSS OF TRACTION BY BRAKING AND/OR ENGAGING ONE OR BOTH OF THE FRONT TIRES. IN NOVEMBER OF 2016, THE VSC ON MY TUNDRA (WITH ONLY 43K MILES) BEGAN TO FAIL AND INSTEAD OF BECOMING INOPERABLE AND DOING NOTHING, THE VSC ATTEMPTS TO ENGAGE THE FRONT TIRE(S) DURING ROUTINE TURNING MOVEMENTS. THIS CAUSES A JERKING SENSATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE VEHICLE PULLS SHARPLY TO ONE-SIDE. THIS COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF CONTROL. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES AND I HAVE SPENT NEARLY $2,800 TRYING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. TO DATE, TOYOTA HAS BEEN UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM OR DISABLE THE FEATURE. IT IS MY OPINION THE VSC SYSTEM IN THE 2012 TUNDRA IS UNSAFE. THIS IS NOT ONLY BASED ON THE FACT I AM THE OWNER OF A DEFECTIVE TUNDRA, PRIOR TO RETIRING IN NOVEMBER 2015; I WORKED FOR THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL FOR MORE THAN 27 YEARS AS AN OFFICER AND SERGEANT. I INVESTIGATED NUMEROUS TRAFFIC COLLISIONS, WORKED IN SPECIALIZED INVESTIGATION UNITS AND RECEIVED ADVANCED TRAINING IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION. I KNOW FIRSTHAND THAT A SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED PULL ON A STEERING WHEEL, SUCH AS I AM EXPERIENCING IN MY TUNDRA, COULD CAUSE A DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL. THEREFORE, IT IS MY OPINION BASED ON THE AFOREMENTIONED THAT THE VSC SYSTEM ON THE 2012 TOYOTA TUNDRA IS DEFECTIVE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS.

THE 2012 TUNDRA PICKUP HAS AN UNCONTROLLED AND VIOLENT REAR END BOUNCE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MOUNTAIN STATES TOYOTA (DEALERSHIP PURCHASED FROM) AND THEY REFUSE TO ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK AS WELL AS REFUSED TO RIDE ALONG TO EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM ON DIFFERENT WEB SITES THAT DESCRIBE EXACTLY WHAT MY TRUCK IS EXPERIENCING. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND DUE TO THE VIOLENT SHAKING I REFUSE TO ALLOW CHILDREN TO RIDE IN THE VEHICLE DUE TO SAFETY AND HEALTH ISSUES. I HAD A SUDDEN JUMP IN MY RPMS AND ACCELERATOR MALFUNCTION I HAD TO CAREFULLY GUIDE THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER IT DIED I COULD NOT START IT. THE ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING, THE 4LO FLASHING AND TRACTION'S ALL FLASHING. I STILL HAD ELECTRICAL BUT NO POWER. I WAS BEING FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE WHO ALMOST HIT ME AND MY DAUGHTER. FLEX FUEL MODELS SOLD BY GULF STATES TOYOTA HAVE AN ISSUE WHERE THE ENGINE'S COMPUTER THINKS THERE IS E85 FUEL (OR AN ALCOHOL CONCENTRATION THAT IS MUCH HIGHER THAN ACTUAL) IN THE SYSTEM WHEN THERE IS NORMAL 10% OR LESS GASOLINE ACTUALLY PRESENT. THIS CAN CAUSE ROUGH COLD STARTS/IDLE, POWER LOSS, SUDDEN RPM/POWER DROPOUT, MISSING, AND LESSENED FUEL ECONOMY, ETC. (DIFFERENT SYMPTOMS FOR DIFFERENT TRUCKS). AT THIS TIME THERE IS NO FINAL FIX AND NO AVAILABLE SERVICE BULLETIN. The contact owns a 2012 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle started leaking fuel, and the contact smelled an abnormal fuel odor. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the fuel leak stopped. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the fuel tank valve assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 20,000.

My power steering gear blew its seal on the passenger side losing all power steering fluid and almost making me crash into a car next to me, and Toyota refuses to cover it stating that I hadn't had the steering gear replaced prior to whenever their dates were this is clearly faulty equipment and faulty machine work on the steering gear itself. why won't Toyota cover it? I tried contacting One Toyota and Downtown Toyota here in Oakland California and they told me that they wanted $250 to inspect my vehicle and that I would definitely have to pay for it because my vehicle was not under recall it states it is a recall if you look it up.It is worded recall if they're not going to cover it sounds like they're trying to back out of covering it until someone gets seriously hurt or killed like I almost did, I will never buy another Toyota again as long as I live because clearly they don't care about the faulty equipment on their vehicles that's going to hurt or kill someone. All they care about is the mighty dollar and that's just wrong. Safety has gone rite the window and if anyone reading this is thinking about buying a Toyota, I would seriously think twice.

The contact owns a 2012 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while plowing his driveway, there was an abnormal burning odor detected. The vehicle suddenly lost power. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that oil was needed. The mechanic became aware that oil was dripping through a small crack on the cam shaft on the right cylinder bank onto the exhaust manifold. The contact was informed that the engine wiring harness was burned. The mechanic recommended that the engine and transfer case be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed after an investigation, that there was no evidence of a defect. The claim was denied. There was no additional assistance provided. The approximate failure mileage 175,000.

Secondary air injection pump has high rate of failure, recalls in older models. Has caused truck to go into limp mode. Could cause serious accident/fatality if vehicle suddenly goes into limp mode on highway. This has happened on multiple occasions in forums I’ve read. WHEN CRANKING THE VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN AS OF 5 DAYS AGO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS ALONG WITH 'TRACK OFF' INDICATOR. THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST MORNING AND I WAS ENTERING A ON RAMP TO GET ON THE HIGH FROM MY NEIGHBOR AND ALMOST GOT PLOWED OVER DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO PROPERLY ACCELERATE TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHILE ENTERING THE RAMP. I HAD A TECHNICIAN CHECK THE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD IT HAS TO DUE WITH THE 'SECONDARY AIR INJECTION VALVE' FAILING. AFTER ABOUT FOUR DAYS OF RESEARCH I FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IT NOT JUST MY VEHICLE BUT MULTIPLE YEARS AND MOTOR SIZES. TOYOTA APPARENTLY COVERED CERTAIN YEAR MODELS/VINE BUT WHEN CALLING REGARDING MINE THEY SAID MY VEHICLE WASN'T COVERED EVENING THOUGH THERE ARE THOUSAND OF CONSUMERS HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THIS ISSUE IS ALSO AN EXPENSIVE REPAIRS COST UPWARDS TO $3,500-$400 TO FIX. PLEASE REFER TO TSB 0160-11. TOYOTA RECOGNIZED THAT INFERIOR QUALITY PARTS WERE USED AS PART OF THEIR EMISSIONS SYSTEM AND WROTE THIS TSB AS A REMEDY. THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT THEY CONTINUED TO USE THE FAULTY PARTS BEYOND THE 2011 MODEL YEAR CUT-OFF IN THIS TSB. MY TRUCK IS THROWING THE SAME ENGINE AND EMISSIONS CODES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS TSB. IT ALSO FORCES THE ENGINE INTO A "LOW POWER MODE" GREATLY REDUCING THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. LASTLY, IT TURNS OFF TRACTION CONTROL WHICH AFFECTS THE STABILITY OF THE TRUCK. THERE ARE MANY OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE TUNDRA, SEQUOIA AND SOME OTHER MODELS (ON THE 4.6L, 4.7L AND 5.7L ENGINES). THE ENGINE CODES USUALLY APPEAR ON STARTUP (WHEN THE EMISSIONS DEVICE ARE SUPPOSED TO KICK IN), BUT THE LOW POWER MODE KICKS IN WHILE MOVING.

I SEE SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS HERE WITH MY EXACT PROBLEM. THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM RELAY AND SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM SWITCHING VALVE. OBD II CODES P0418 AND P2442. MY EXPERIENCE IS THE SAME AS OTHER COMPLAINTS IN THAT MY TRUCK IS NOW PERMANENTLY IN LIMP MODE AND CANNOT BE DRIVEN DUE TO THESE KNOWN DEFECTIVE PARTS. ON PRE-2012 MODEL TUNDRAS TOYOTA HAS EXTENDED THE REPAIR WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS/150,000 MILES AS THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. FOR SOME REASON THEY WILL NOT INCLUDE LATER YEAR MODEL TRUCKS LIKE MY 2012 4.6 LITER. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE TRUCK SLOWED SEVERELY IN TRAFFIC AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE OR GO UP ANY HILL. CARS BEHIND ME IN TRAFFIC HAD TO SWERVE AROUND ME. I WAS STUCK DEAD AT THE BOTTOM OF A HILL AS THESE CHRONICALLY FAILING PARTS SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE'S POWER. TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE HAS DENIED MY ATTEMPT TO SEEK COMPENSATION OR REPAIR OF THESE PARTS THAT THEY KNOW ARE DEFECTIVE. THE FIX NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED TO ALL YEAR MODEL AND ENGINE SIZE TUNDRAS AS THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS EXIST ON MODELS PAST 2011. A SIDE NOTE, SOMEHOW THESE DEFECTS ARE REPORTED TO BE AFFECTING THE VEHICLE SKID CONTROL AS THAT WARNING LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THESE PARTS FAIL ON MOST OF THE AFFECTED TUNDRAS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA TUNDRA EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER AT TIRES, SIZE: 255/70/18 (NA). WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TIRES WOBBLED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MAVIS DISCOUNT TIRES, (LOCATED AT 5332 W GENESEE ST, CAMILLUS, NY 13031) WHERE ALL FOUR TIRES WERE RE-BALANCED. THE SHOP STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT GOODYEAR, BUT THEY NEVER DID. THE CONTACT CALLED THE GOODYEAR MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED TO TAKE THE TIRES BACK TO MAVIS. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,769 AND TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.

TRUCK IN LIMP MODE. WOULD NOT EXCEED 40MPH. VEHICLE LIMPED HOME AND TOWED TO DEALER. RODENTS HAD CHEWED ELECTRICAL WIRES PER TOYOTA DEALER. UPON INVESTIGATION TOYOTA BEGAN USING SOY-BASED WIRING IN THEIR VEHICLES INSTEAD OF PETROLEUM-BASED AND DIDN'T NOTIFY THEIR CUSTOMERS. SOY-BASED PRODUCTS IN VEHICLES HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO "ATTRACT" RODENTS VERSUS PETROLEUM BASED PRODUCTS. MY 2012 TUNDRA WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND TOYOTA DENIED SAID WARRANTY BECAUSE IT WASN'T A "FAILURE" OF THEIR PARTS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY OR STEER PROPERLY BECAUSE THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ECM HAD FAILED. THIS COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR HARM DUE TO AN UNSUSPECTING INTERRUPTION IN SPEED AND TRAFFIC FLOW, AS A RESULT OF WIRING SEPARATION OCCURRING WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE.

ON 12/24/2012 AROUND 04:00HRS I STRUCK AN ADULT MOOSE IN BEAR LAKE, CANADA WITH THE FRONT END OF MY WIFE'S 2012 TOYOTA TUNDRA CREWMAX ON THE BRITISH COLUMBIA HIGHWAY. THE CONDITION OF THE ROAD WAS SNOW AND ICE BUT WE HAD RECENTLY PURCHASED AFTERMARKET RIMS AND TIRES ON 12/18/2012 IN CALIFORNIA; 18IN MB VOTEX RIMS WITH BFG ALL TERRAIN TIRES. THE TRACTION OF THESE TIRES BOOSTED MY CONFIDENCE IN TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 30-40MPH AT NIGHT. WE HAD TRAVELED ALL THE WAY FROM GEORGIA WITHOUT SEEING ANY ANIMALS AT NIGHT. THE HID HEAD LAMPS GAVE ME A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY NAVIGATING THROUGH THE NIGHT IN ORDER TO MAKE THE FINAL LEG TO ANCHORAGE, AK FOR CHRISTMAS DAY. TO MY SURPRISE, A MOOSE TIPTOED FROM THE WOODS ON MY RIGHT ABOUT 20 FEET AHEAD OF ME AS I INTENDED TO PRESS ON PASS IT. BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN IT GOT SPOOKED AND DARTED INTO MY PATH. I STRUCK THE ANIMAL BROAD SIDE WITH THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK KNOCKING IT INTO THE ENGINE BAY. INITIALLY I THOUGHT THE CONTACT WAS NOT SEVERE BUT INSPECTION PROVED OTHERWISE. THE HOOD WAS CRUMPLED UP UNTO THE WINDSHIELD, AND THE RADIATOR AND MOTOR WAS PUSHED SO FAR BACK THAT IT WAS NO LONGER DRIVABLE. I BELIEVE MY SPEED WAS AROUND 30MPH UPON IMPACT WHICH SURPRISED ME THAT THE ANIMAL WAS DEAD. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP FOR AN INSURANCE ESTIMATE AS A TOTAL LOSS. I WAS CONCERNED AS TO WHY THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY SINCE THE DAMAGES WAS SO GREAT. THE TECH EXPLAINED THAT THE SENSORS FOR THE AIRBAGS ARE LOCATED BEHIND THE BUMPER OF THE TRUCK WHERE IMPACT WAS MINIMAL. BECAUSE THE CONTACT TO THE MOOSE KNOCKED HIM OFF HIS LEGS THE LARGE BODY FELL INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL HAD IT A FULL RACK OF ANTLERS. THANK GOD HE DID NOT! THOUGH WE HAVE PURCHASED A 2013 REPLACEMENT OF THE SAME TRUCK, THE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING IS STILL A CONCERN AS A DESIGN FLAW AND NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
