Headlights go out randomly usually when using turn signal. Because this happens at night all visibility is lost temporarily. This also confuses other drivers. I haven’t taken the vehicle to the dealer because the symptom is very sporadic and difficult to duplicate. Dealerships will not fix anything unless they can witness the issue. No warning lights or messages were displayed. This problem has been documented numerous times by many different owners on Toyota Tundra forums.

When driving at night, the front lights of the vehicle turn off randomly. Been driving on an highway at going at 75mph and randomly the headlights shuts off. Happened 4 times in the past year.

Headlights, taillights and all dash and interior lights go out when using turn signal at night. My and others safety has been put at risk due to the loss of headlights and taillights when engaging the turn signal. Those in my truck as well as those in surrounding vehicles are at risk because of the lack of exterior illumination while driving. Toyota dealer has not been able to reproduce the problem as the technicians do not work at night to drive the truck in the dark when headlights would be in use. Vehicle has not been inspected by any third parties just the dealership. There were no waring or messages or other symptoms of the problem before the failure. Problem first appeared in January 2022 and has occurred on over 6 occasions before truck was taken to dealership in February 2022. Truck was taken to dealership after lights went out at 70 MHP when signaling to exit highway at night.

Right headlight leveling motor failed causing headlight to point at the ground. I now have limited night time visibility on a 13,000 mi. vehicle. Toyota does not offer a replacement part nor do aftermarket sellers. A Youtube video of one of these dismantled motors shows a cheapest of the cheap device. Auto manufacturers should not be allowed to use cheaply made items to point headlights! Dealer refused warranty and wants $500+ for a new headlight that will last 13,000 mi. When the left side fails, I will no longer be able to drive at night. This is beyond absurd that a manufacturer is allowed to use the cheapest parts possible on a safety device such as a headlight.

WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND THE LIGHTS ARE ON AUTO, PRESSING DOWN FOR THE LEFT SIGNAL THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT AND THE DASH BECOMES DIM AS IF I AM DRIVING DURING THE DAY WHICH IM NOT. THE VEHICLE IS MOVING WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT . PLEASE FIND A RESOLUTION BECAUSE THIS IS DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE OTHERS TO COLLIDE WITH ME WHILE ON THE ROAD.

Cold starting problems so the dealer diagnosed as a defective fuel pump.
Oct 21, 2025
My 2017 Toyota Tundra had been starting roughly the past couple of weeks, I initially thought this was due to the very cold weather we recently had. It has just over 71k miles on it, so there should be no issues with this truck. Then on the afternoon of 1/16/25 I tried to start my truck and it would turn over, but not start. No fuel was getting to the engine. I did some research on this issue and it seems a recall was issued for 1.5 MILLION Tundras from 2017. I did a search for my VIN and nothing comes up. I want this fixed by Toyota as it should be included in the recall. Now I have a useless hunk of metal sitting at my house because I cant even start it to get it TO the dealership. Please help me resolve this and have Toyota take care of the problem. I dont understand why my vehicle was not included in the 1.5 million vehicles initially covered. Please, help consumers out with this. Please advise. Thank you in advance.

Flex Fuel Extended Crank when engine is cold. Have had into dealer multiple times and fix is temporary. Known issue with flex fuel Tundras that keeps returning

Our 2017 Toyota Tundra has been having difficulty starting, takes multiple attempts before starting. We brought it to Toyota dealership and had a diagnostic done. They told us we need new fuel pump and the ECM software needs to be updated. There is a know problem with Denso fuel pump system along with class action lawsuit. We were told that our vehicle is not included in that lawsuit. We were also told by Toyota dealership that the fuel pump is on back order and they are not sure when it will arrive. They said it could take months. With this fuel pump issue our safety is at risk because our vehicle could lose power at any time. There were no warning lights to alert us to this issue.
May 19, 2023
We were recently advised our 2017 Tundra needs a new fuel pump because it is not getting enough compression. We were told the 2018 Toyota Tundra and many other vehicles made by Toyota have been recalled for this exact same issue we are having but there have not been enough complaints about the 2017. Well here’s a complaint. I have to pay for a fuel pump known to be bad by Toyota but since enough people haven’t complained about a problem they are aware of isn’t fair. Please put my complaint in so something might be done about this.

IBC IS A COMPLETELY TERRIBLE PART IN THE TRUCK. 3 TIMES PULLING A TRAILER AND THEN THE BRAKES COMPLETELY GIVE OUT. TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER AND OF COURSE NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. TOOK THE TRAILER TO A RV PLACE AND NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. AFTER ALL THE THREADS AND EVERYONE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TOW BRAKES NOT WORKING TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO OWN UP TO A PROBLEM. IT IS UNSAFE AND SOMEONE WILL GET HURT. HOW IS THIS NOT BEING ADDRESSED AND WHY IS THE PROBLEM NOT FIXED? WHY HAVE A TOW PACKAGE AND NOT BE ABLE TO TOW. TAKE OWNERSHIP AND FIX THE BRAKES!!

ORDERED AND RECEIVED 2017 TOYOTA TUNDRA PICKUP TRUCK WITH WORK PACKAGE. PER TOYOTA, "WORK PACKAGE" REMOVES ELECTRONIC OPTIONS SUCH AS POWER SEATS, WINDOWS AND LOCKS. THE PROBLEM HERE, IS THAT THERE IS NO KEYED CYLINDER LOCK INSTALLED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR, THEREFORE--REMOVING THE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK, ALSO REMOVES ALL MEANS OF ENTERING THE LOCKED PASSENGER SIDE OF THIS VEHICLE, EXCEPT BY UNLOCKING THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, AND CRAWLING OVER THE SEAT TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. TOYOTA DOES NOT STATE LACK OF PASSENGER DOOR ACCESS IN ANY OF THEIR PUBLISHED INFORMATION CONCERNING THE "WORK TRUCK PACKAGE". I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY ISSUES PERTAINING TO THIS BY ELIMINATING ALL EXTERIOR ACCESS TO THE PASSENGER SIDE. IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, FOR ANY REASON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR IS EITHER INOPERABLE OR UNACCESSIBLE, THERE WOULD BE NO QUICK, EASY WAY TO ENTER THE VEHICLE WITH A SIMPLE TURN OF A KEY -- ONLY OPTION WOULD BE TO BREAK THROUGH A WINDOW, IF POSSIBLE. I FIND IT VERY DISTURBING THAT A MAJOR AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURER PURPOSELY ELIMINATES VEHICLE ACCESS DUE TO FINANCIAL REASONS, OVERSHADOWING SAFETY REASONS.

WHILE TOWING A CAMPER, I HAD A TRAILER BRAKE WARNING LIGHT. I CHECKED THE CONNECTOR AND DROVE ON, LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. HAD MINIMAL BRAKE CONTROL ON MY CAMPER BRAKES. I WENT TO A DEALER IN CT, THEY SAID THEY HAD HAD 1 ISSUE WITH ONE VEHICLE.. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY PURCHASING DEALER. THE MASTER TECH COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. SAID IT WAS MOST LIKELY A PROBLEM WITH THE GROUND ON MY CAMPER. I HAD TOWED THIS CAMPER FOR 2 YEARS WITH A 2012 TUNDRA WITH NO ISSUES. WITH THE 2017, COULD NOT ADJUST THE BRAKES OR GET THEM TO LOCK UP, EVEN ON SETTING # 10. DEALER DIDNT GIVE ME A COPY OF THE WORK ORDER, SAID THERE WASNT A PROBLEM. GETTING READY TO GO ON A TRIP AND WILL BE HOOKING UP AN AFTER MARKET CONTROLLER AS I DONT TRUST THIS ONE. HAVE BEEN A LOYAL TOYOTA CUSTOMER AND I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED.

INTEGRATED BRAKE CONTROLLER. TSB T-SB-0231-17 AND T-SB-0231-16 PERFORMED WITH NEGATIVE RESULTS. UNABLE TO PERFORM SET UP OF CONTROLLER ACCORDING TO OWNERS MANUAL. DEALER SUBMITTED A DRP AWAITING TOYOTA CORP. TO INVESTIGATE. TOYOTA CORP. HAS NO OTHER FIX FOR THIS CONTROLLER. TOYOTA CORP. SAID IBC WORKS AS DESIGNED. IBC WILL NOT STOP TRAILER SAFELY.

THE ONBOARD INTIGRATED TRAILER BREAK CONTROLLER DOES NOT WORK WITH ALL ELECTRIC BREAK TRAILERS. WORKS ON MANUAL TRAILER BREAK APPLICATION BUT NOT EFFECTIVE ENOUGH WITH VEHICLE BREAKS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. DURING A PANIC STOP THE TRAILER BREAKS DO NOT COME ON LIKE THEY DO WITH AN AFTER MARKET BREAK CONTROLLER LIKE A TEKONSHA P3 PROGRESSIVE BREAK CONTROLLER. THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH A SOFTWARE RECALL TO MAKE THE ELECTRIC BREAK MOSE MORE RESPONSIVE. HOW MANY ACCIDENTS DOES IT TAKE FOR THE NTSB TO TAKE ACTION. GO ONLINE AND READ ALL THE NEGATIVE FORUMS.

INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER DOESN'T APPLY ADEQUATE VOLTAGE TO TRAILER BRAKES. AT 100% GAIN BRAKES BARELY WORK WITH AN EMPTY TRAILER. BRAKES SHOULD LOCK UP AT 100% GAIN. TOWING ANY LOAD IS DANGEROUS WITHOUT TRAILER BRAKES. DEALERSHIP HAD NO FIX OR REMEDIES. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY SITUATIONS BECAUSE I KNOW I SHOULDN'T DRIVE IT WITHOUT TRAILER BRAKES. I BOUGHT A TRUCK TO TOW MY CAMPER,FLAT TRAILER AND BOAT. A$47,000 TRUCK SHOULD BE ABLE TO TOW.

MY 2017 TOYOTA TUNDRA 1794 CREWMAX, DURING WINTER MONTHS IN SOUTH CAROLINA - THE HEADLIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS AND INTERNAL INSTRUMENTATION WILL TURN OFF WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT WITH TURN SIGNAL ENGAGED. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WITH THE LIGHTS IN THE AUTO POSITION AND NOT IN THE MANUAL POSITION AND THE ISSUE OCCURS AT NIGHT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION!! SOMETIMES THE LIGHTS JUST FLICKER AND SOMETIMES THEY GO OFF AND STAY OFF. I HAVE ALMOST RAN OFF THE ROAD TWICE WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED. IT HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY WITH COOLER TEMPERATURES. I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE FOR OVER A YEAR NOW TRYING TO GET TOYOTA TO FIX IT. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT TOYOTA DOESNT WANT TO FIX UNLESS THEY CAN DUPLICATE THIS ISSUE IN THE SHOP, IN WHICH THEY USUALLY CANT. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE ONLINE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE, ON FORUMS. THIS IS A SAFTEY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP.

WHEN ENABLING THE REAR DEFROSTER (AND SIDE MIRROR DEFROST), I HEARD A LOUD POP, AND NOTICED SMOKE UNDER THE PASSENGER WINDSHIELD WIPER. THE WINDSHIELD HAD CRACKED (PRESUMABLY FROM THE HEAT DIFFERENTIAL), AND THE WIPER STARTED TO MELT ON THE WINDSCREEN. THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT DIRECTLY UNDER THE WINDSHIELD (AND UNDER THE PASSENGER WIPER) THAT IS RELATED TO THE DEFROSTER. THIS OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, AND COLD (MORNING STARTUP).

Dec 02, 2019
THE VEHICLE'S INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS VERY DARK AND HARD TO READ DURING THE DAY. ESPECIALLY ON CLOUDY DAYS OR WHEN WEARING SUNGLASSES. AS A RESULT, READING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TAKES SIGNIFICANT EFFORT, WHICH MEANS MORE TIME OF EYES NOT ON THE ROAD AND IT MAKES CONTROLLING SPEED HARD. ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTING DOES NOT COME ON UNLESS THE HEAD AND TAIL LIGHTS ARE ON. WITH LIGHT SWITCH SET TO "AUTO", HEAD & TAILLIGHTS AND THUS INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS WILL BE OFF DURING THE DAY. WITH THE LIGHT SWITCH SET TO ON, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS WILL BE ON, BUT THE MAXIMUM OUTPUT IS NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH TO BE EASILY VISIBLE IN DAYTIME DRIVING. LIKE MOST VEHICLES IN TEXAS, MY TRUCK CAME WITH LEGAL AND MODEST SIDE WINDOW TINTING FROM THE DEALER. THIS REDUCES LIGHT FALLING ONTO THE MOSTLY BLACK INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND REFLECTING OF THE THIN WHITE LETTERING. HENCE, IT TAKES EFFORT TO READ. THE PROBLEM IS EXACERBATED WHEN WEARING SUNGLASSES (A MUST DURING SUMMER IN TEXAS) OR WHEN DRIVING ON CLOUDY DAYS.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES

Intermittent failure of the integrated trailer brake controller system. System indicates a frequent intermittent fault indicating a wiring or connection issue that disables the signal to activate the trailer brakes resulting in no trailer braking. Vehicle and trailer are available for inspection. I was travelling down a 6% grade mountain (Arizona SR87 MP224) an exhibited a loss of trailer brakes. Taking the trailer to the dealer on flat level service experienced intermittent loss of trailer brakes. Toyota Integrated Brake Controller (IBC) intermittently and randomly indicating a fault in the trailer wiring. •Rapid clicking of the IBC’s electrical relays. •In fault mode, the IBC disables the trailer brakes. •Sometimes the IBC works perfectly for miles and then goes into fault mode for an unknown reason. •Sometimes, the IBC goes into fault mode just plugging the trailer into the electrical socket without even taking the truck out of drive or depressing the brake pedal. •All external trailer lights include turn signals are functioning normally. Examination and diagnosis to date: •Toyota IBC was removed and replaced with a Tekonsha P3 brake controller using a Tekonsha wiring harness adapter to plug directly into the Tundra’s wiring harness used by the original Toyota IBC. The P3 is giving the error as brake circuit short-circuit, overload. •The travel trailer is a 2022 Jayco 212QBW, dual axle. •I brought the trailer to the dealer I purchased it from to have the brake system checked for faults. I’ve attached a copy of receipt from the dealer service department. In short, they examined the following and concluded the issue was with the Tundra. - The trailer wiring was physically examined with no deficiencies. - Trailer connected to the dealer's Chevy Silverado and driven around town with no faults. Toyota dealership claims they can find no fault with their tester. They would not use my 7-pin tester that also exhibits the same problems.
Feb 08, 2023
Integrated Brake Controller (IBC) not sending sufficient power to electric dual-axle travel trailer brakes producing weak if any braking ability. On the approach to the first red traffic signal, there was zero braking from the trailer requiring full braking from the tow vehicle risking a crash. The IBC is providing no warning or failure indicators to the user. The vehicle and IBC are available for government inspection. The travel trailer in use is a 2022 Jayco Jay Flight SLX8 212QBW. While towing a 5,000 pound dual-axle travel trailer for the first time since I purchased the truck brand new from Toyota in 2017, I attempted to setup the IBC. Instructions say to set Type, which I set to electric brakes matching the trailer, then adjust the gain up while travelling around 25 miles per hours. When lock up of the trailer brakes occur, reduce the gain slightly to prevent full lock up. At a Gain of 10 (10 is the maximum), I could not achieve brake lock up and could only obtain weak trailer braking. The trailer was tested with a different tow vehicle and there were no problems obtaining lock up at mid-range gain. I had Toyota inspect the software updates to the IBC on January 14, 2022 and Toyota advised the IBC is up to date on its software and functioning correctly. The Tundra is out of factory warranty, but since I did not own a travel trailer during the warranty period, there was no way for me to test the IBC before going out of warranty.

ON JULY 8, 2017 WE HAD JUST PURCHASED A NEW 2017 TUNDRA. WE TOW A 24 FT. RV TRAILER AND WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR THAT REASON. ONE OF THE FEATURES THIS VEHICLE HAS IS THE INTEGRATED BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR TOWING. AS WE WERE HEADED HOME ON STATE HWY. 42 NEAR COOS BAY, OREGON, I NOTICED BLUE SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE PICKUP. I WASN'T SURE WHAT HAPPENED. I STOPPED AS SOON AS I COULD AND I COULDN'T LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE SMOKE. I LATER LEARNED THERE HAS BEEN MANY CONSUMER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE FAULTINESS OF THIS INTEGRATED BRAKE SYSTEM CONTROLLER. I WANT THIS ISSUE FIXED SO I CAN BE ASSURED OF A SAFE TRIP WHEN TOWING MY RV TRAILER WITHOUT THE FEAR OF HAVING NO TRAILER BRAKES WHEN I NEED THEM OR HAVING THEM LOCK UP FOR NO REASON. THANK YOU

STEERING
3 complaints
Vehicle was driven 30 miles to work with no steering issues and parked in work parking lot. Upon returning to vehicle to return home when backing out of parking spot the front driver wheel would not turn almost causing me to back into parked car next to me. I looked under the front of the driver side tire, and noticed the outer tie rod was hanging down, and was causing the no steering issue. I called a tow truck, and had the vehicle taken to the Toyota dealer where vehicle was purchased new. I informed the dealer to be careful with the vehicle as the outer tie rod on driver side was broken and was not possible to drive. The Toyota dealer investigated the issue and found that the threads on bother inner and outer tie rods on both passenger and driver side was stripped. All outer and inner tie rods on the vehicle had to be replaced due to the threads being stripped on all 4 tie rods. My concern is this truck only has 86,000 miles on it, and if I had been travelling on interstate at 70MPH and the tie rod broke it would have resulted in a catastrophic collision due to a no steering condition. This vehicle has never sustained any front end damage of any type. I can provide the dealers name and the notes on the repair bill from the Toyota dealership stating exactly what I have stated in this report.

NHTSA Recall No. 21E-103 I received a recall letter for my vehicle about a potentially defective power steering gear service and I called my local dealer about it and they said only if you put one in since August 5 2021 I said no but I think I have a steering problem sometimes while driving and they could look at my vehicle just to make sure it is ok. They said since it is no in this time frame that if you brought it in that I will have to pay for the inspection and will cost $150 dollars. I GET A LETTER ABOUT MY VEHICLE FOR A RECALL AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR IT EVEN IF IT WASN'T IN THIS TIMEFRAME BUT I CAN BE DRIVING AND MAYBE GET KILLED IF I HAVE BAD STEERING GEAR!!!!!!!!

My 2017 Toyota Tundra Limited has 107,192 miles. I took the vehicle to Berlin City Toyota in Portland, ME for an oil change. The service technician told me that the truck has a cam tower leak. The engine is leaking oil directly onto the exhaust manifold. The service technician told me that if the leak gets worse the engine oil could combust and the engine would light on fire. I regularly have my truck serviced at Berlin City Toyota in Portland, ME, which is where I purchased the truck. I have documented with Toyota that the truck has been burning or leaking oil since it purchased the truck when it had 43,000 miles. No leak was ever found by Toyota until yesterday. The cost to repair this issue is $5600. No warning lamps or messages have ever appeared on the truck. Toyota says this is a common issues with the 5.7 liter V8 engine in the 2017 Tundra. I feel that it should be covered by warranty or a recall should be put in place for the cam tower leak on the Toyota Tundra being that the engine could light on fire with no warning due to the faulty seal on the engine.

The contact owns a 2017 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that after attempting to start the vehicle, the engine failed to turn over. The contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump and the CPU had failed, and the fuel pump needed to be replaced, and the CPU needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he used a code reader to diagnose the vehicle and the result showed that an ethanol fuel type had been detected instead of regular fuel to refuel the vehicle. The contact stated that the system was confused, and that ethanol was not the fuel type that was used. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000. The VIN was unavailable.

As I am driving down the pickup loses power/ has no power. Was driving down the interstate and trying to make it up the Harbor bridge I could only go 40. Then try to pass a semi that (BAD DRIVER) was dangerously close, I could not even pass him. Not to mention people were angry at me and getting defensive. There were no warning lights, I took it in immediately. It has been inspected by my secondary warranty I purchased. ( Tripple Diamond 1-833-909-0015 or 1-844-526-0415 our policy # is [XXX] under [XXX] -So I take it to the Toyota Dealership in Corpus Christi Texas, They then tell me it is my Secondary air pump (both Sides) and Valves including Gasket, Air Tube, Pump Assembly, air, (2 both sides)/inlet, Air pump(1) and valve set, emission (1) That was on 12-16-2022 (it has been there since) this will cost me $3,205.38 out of pocket. But the real problem is that there is a long waiting list of people waiting for this same part, so no one can get it. Many people with the same problem last I called I was 44 people in line. I only have 75,000 miles on my truck, and still have the same tires That are in great shape (I rotate them) So for this to happen seems strange, I take special care of this truck. THIS HAPPENED 4 TIMES TODAY THE VEHICLE WOULD STAY AT 1000 RPM WHILE DRIVING WITH NO ACCELERATION POSSIBLE, IT WAS AS IF THE GAS PEDAL WAS DISCONNECTED, TRIED TO CROSS BUSY INTERSECTION , BUT COULD ONLY COAST THREW. ALSO NO WARNING CODES AVAILABLE. LATER THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OR ACCELERATE IT WAS GOING 40 MPH AT 2000 RPM . THE TRUCK HAS 34500 MILES ON IT. TOYOTA SAYS NO ISSUES OF THIS KIND REPORTED AND I'M ONE MONTH OUT OF WARRANTY. I FEEL THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, TRYING TO CROSS BUSY INTERSECTION , WHEN YOU CAN NOT ACCELERATE I'M GONNA GET KILLED.

WITH THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH SELECTED TO 'AUTO' AND WHEN ENGAGING THE TURN SIGNAL TO THE LEFT DURNING NIGHT DRIVING, ALL EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD GO BLACK UNTIL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IS MOVED TO THE ON THE POSITION. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO REMEDY THE ISSUE. INITIALLY, THIS DEALERSHIP THOUGHT IT WAS THE LIGHT SENSOR LOCATED ON THE DASH OF THE TRUCK AND REPLACED IT USING A WARRANTY CLAIM. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY (NEXT DAY), THE VEHICLE REPEATED THE SAME INITIAL FAILURE OVER 3 TIMES IN AN HOUR. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THAT SAME TOYOTA DEALERSHIP BUT UPON ARRIVAL I WAS MET WITH RESISTANCE DUE TO A PREVIOUS WARRANTY CLAIM FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THEY ADVISED ME IF I WANTED THE SWITCH REPLACED, IT WOULD BE TOTALLY AT MY EXPENSE. I LEFT THAT DEALERSHIP AND PROCEEDED TO ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHO REPLACED THE SWITCH AT MY EXPENSE. THE REPLACING OF THE SWITCH HAS SOLVED THE LIGHTS GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING DURING THE NIGHT. I'VE READ ON SEVERAL TRUCK FORUMS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY TOYOTA BUT THEY HAVEN ACKNOWLEDGED IT. LUCKILY, I CAN AFFORD TO REPLACE MY SWITCH TO ENSURE MY FAMILY IS SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE BUT MY SUBMISSION HERE IS FOR THOSE THAT CAN'T AFFORD THE REPLACEMENTS AND NEED TOYOTA TO ISSUE A RECALL TO FIX THIS SERIOUS BUT INEXPENSIVE ISSUE.

MICE ARE ABLE TO ENTER THE AIR VENTILATION SYSTEM FROM A LARGE GAP AT THE ENDS OF THE AIR INTAKE GRILL BELOW THE WINDSHIELD, ONCE IN, THEY ENTER THE CAB AND DASH AREA. THESE MICE WILL DAMAGE THE WIRING AND CAUSE A VEHICLE SYSTEM FAILURE (BRAKING-POWER-AIR BAG, ETC.) I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO MY DEALER ROCHESTER TOYOTA AND TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE (800-331-4331). THE DEALER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS A ISSUE AND ONLY SUGGESTION WAS TO PUT A SCENT IN THE CAB TO DISCOURAGE THE MICE. THIS IS SERIOUS MANUFACTURING FLAW THAT NEEDS A RETRO FITTED AIR INTAKE GRILL TO CLOSE OFF IT'S CURRENT GAP THAT ALLOW MICE TO ENTER THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. I HAVE INSTALLED STEEL MESH TO COVER THESE LARGE GAPS (PHOTOS ATTACHED). A RECALL TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE ISSUED.

THE SPARE TIRE DETACHED FROM ITS MOUNT UNDER THE VEHICLE WHILE WE WERE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON I-76 IN NE COLORADO. THE TIRE FELL TO THE PAVEMENT AND WAS STRUCK BY THE TRAVEL TRAILER WE WERE TOWING, BLOWING OUT A TRAILER TIRE AND DAMAGING THE TRAILER. THE SPARE TIRE WAS STRUCK A FEW MINUTES LATER BY ANOTHER VEHICLE, CAUSING FAILURE TO 2 TIRES ON THEIR VEHICLE AND NEAR LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. THE PEOPLE IN THE SECOND VEHICLE CONFIRMED IT WAS OUR SPARE TIRE. AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT, OUR TOYOTA TUNDRA WAS 10 MONTHS OLD, PURCHASED IN JANUARY 2017. THE SPARE TIRE HAD NEVER BEEN USED NOR HAD IT BEEN LOWERED OR REMOVED FROM ITS FACTORY-INSTALLED MOUNTING DEVICE. IT WAS FITTED WITH A DEALER-INSTALLED SPARE TIRE LOCK. THE TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. WE HAVE A DASH-CAM FILE OF THE INCIDENT BUT IT ONLY SHOWS THAT NOTHING ELSE WAS IN THE HIGHWAY AS THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. THE REARVIEW CAMERA ONLY SHOWS THE TRAVEL TRAILER ROCKING AS IT WENT OVER THE SPARE TIRE.

TL* THE CONTACT'S PARENTS PURCHASED A 2018 TOYOTA TUNDRA (NA). WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, A VEHICLE SUDDENLY CUT IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER AND CAUSED A CHAIN REACTION OF SUDDEN STOPS WITH SEVERAL VEHICLES. THE DRIVER REAR ENDED THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS AND TOYOTA SAFETY SENSE SYSTEM FAILED TO ACTIVATE. THE SAFETY SENSE FEATURE WAS SUPPOSED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY DUE TO OBJECTS (VEHICLE) BEING IN CLOSE PROXIMITY AT A FAST RATE. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE HAD SEVERE DAMAGE AND WAS TOWED. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER RECEIVED INJURIES TO THE NECK AND ARM AREA, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE IF THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED OR ABLE TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE IF THE DEALER WAS INFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.
