I am submitting this complaint regarding Toyota’s decision to exclude hybrid vehicles from an active safety recall affecting non-hybrid Toyota Tundra models equipped with the same twin-turbo V6 engine architecture. Toyota has stated that hybrid vehicles are excluded because they retain motive power through the electric drive system in the event of an internal combustion engine failure. This rationale does not address real-world safety risk and does not reflect the mechanical realities of towing or highway operation. The hybrid version of the Toyota Tundra uses the same base V35A-derived engine architecture, block casting, bearing design, and oiling system as the recalled non-hybrid vehicles. Toyota has not demonstrated that hybrid engines were manufactured differently or are immune to the defect that prompted the recall. In towing conditions, an internal combustion engine failure creates an immediate safety hazard even if limited electric propulsion remains available. Electric-only operation provides severely reduced power, limited speed, and restricted torque, making highway merging, grade climbing, or maintaining safe traffic flow unsafe while towing. Retaining minimal electric motion does not equate to maintaining safe propulsion under load. Additionally, a catastrophic engine failure may introduce metal debris, oil pressure loss, or thermal imbalance that can compromise shared drivetrain and hybrid coupling components. The presence of an electric motor does not mitigate the underlying defect risk or the secondary damage potential. Toyota’s distinction between hybrid and non-hybrid vehicles appears to be regulatory and financial rather than engineering-based. The same defect risk exists regardless of the hybrid system. I request that NHTSA evaluate whether Toyota’s exclusion of hybrid vehicles is based on actual engineering differences or solely on regulatory interpretation.

I've had a recall procedure done to correct an acceleration hesitation, but the problem still persists. When accelerating from a stop into traffic there is a significant acceleration pause before the pickup actually accelerates. I've had several close calls to being hit by oncoming traffic because of the inability to merge into traffic as planned due to the acceleration pause. The pickup currently has just over 56,000 miles on it.

I get throttle lag/hesitation most often when starting to go from a complete stop. This has happened many times.

Throttle lag/hesitation
Dec 10, 2025
Taking off at a stop and merging in traffic or any complete stop there's a lag or dead spot in the gas pedal,a severe at times hesitation before it finally proceeds to move,a dead spot between hitting the gas and actually taking off.scary at times.,this truck had this lag before engine replace and only now has 5,000 miles on new engine and still does it.This happens every time you drive it.not a particular incident or when it's the truck is cold or warmed up.

Attempted to shift out 4-wheel high back into 2-wheel drive. On the dashboard, both 4 wheel high and 4-wheel low were flashing yellow/orange. Put truck into park to clear, nothing continued to flash. Put truck into neutral, nothing continued to flash 4 high and 4 low. Turned the truck engine completely off and started again. Both 4 high and 4 low continued flashy. Put truck into drive, 4 low and 4 high now became a solid orange/yellow, no flashing. Drove truck a mile and a half down the road and lost complete control of the steering. Ended up in ditch with several thousand dollars of damage. Contacted dealer where purchased. Explained what happened to the Manager of Toyota service department. He claims it has happened on other Tundra's, says it happened on his truck. Offered no explanation or fix to the problem.

Vehicle suffers from throttle lag when accelerating from a stop. Issue does not occur often enough to reproduce at dealer service center but has almost resulted in an accident multiple times over the past 3.5yrs. No warning lamps or messages when the issue occurs.

Have notice a lot of throttle hesitation when taken off from a stop or after letting off the gas pedal and then hitting it again. A couple times it has made me feel un safe as there was on coming traffic and the truck took a second or to accelerate

Throttle delay is extremely dangerous and has nearly caused numerous accidents
Dec 10, 2025
Ever since I got this truck, I’ve experienced intermittent hesitation/lag when accelerating from a stop. I’ve reported it to the dealer several times and am always told they cannot reproduce. The problem was NOT improved after the engine replacement. This is dangerous - when pulling into traffic I cannot always count on my truck actually MOVING when I press the accelerator.
Nov 28, 2025
THIS VEHICLE HAS TERRIBLE THROTTLE LAG/DELAY, SOMETIMES LASTING UP TO 4 SECONDS. THIS POSES A SERIOUS THREAT WHILE PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC.

I recently put my boat in the water with my 2022 Toyota Tundra at local boat launch. When I put the boat in the water my truck registered a quarter tank of gas. After launching and loading the boat my truck registered a full tank of gas and would not reset or adjust the fuel gauge once it was on a level surface. I found several complaints on the Toyota forum regarding the fuel gauge improperly reading a full tank after being on an incline and not adjusting once on a level surface. I was forced to disconnect the negative battery cable to reset the fuel sensor. Fast forward the truck was at the dealer on 7/28/2025 for the engine replacement. I asked them to look into the fuel gauge sensor issue and was advised that there is a Toyota TSB for the sensor and it needed a computer reflash, but would not do the reflash at their expense. This is a safety issue that if not corrected may cause individuals to run out of gas while in motion on the highways causing the vehicle to stall causing a collision or road hazard.

There is a well-known issue with these new model Toyota tundras where there are problems with acceleration. When at a stop and pulling out from the stop, the engine and acceleration hesitate, and there is a flag of between 2 to 5 seconds before the vehicle starts moving. The gas pedal is depressed and there is a hesitation or lag of several seconds before forward movement progresses. There was a Toyota safety bulletin update that was supposed to fix the problem and it did not. Many users are still reporting the same problem and it’s just as bad as it was before. This creates a massive safety issue when pulling into traffic or trying to increase speed to keep up with the flow of traffic when initially pulling out. My truck specifically is experiencing this anywhere from one to three times a week.
Dec 17, 2025
When trying to accelerate from a stop this truck lags and hesitates to the point of stalling almost when pulling into or crossing traffic. I have been in many near miss collisions due to the hesitation and lack of response. This has been going on since I’ve owned the truck in 22 and the dealership failed to address it or even acknowledge it.
Dec 03, 2025
Occasionally, upon coming to a stop or from the stopped position the vehicle briefly hesitates when trying to accelerate cause the vehicle to aggressively jerk once the vehicle begins to accelerate, sometimes leaving you in the middle of an intersection or in a dangerous situation in traffic due to unresponsive acceleration inputs.
May 09, 2025
Major throttle response issues. Long delay when pressing accelerator, and when under heavy acceleration, if you let off the gas because of an obstacle, the truck continues to apply propulsion. Both issues could create an unsafe situation or cause a collision
Feb 18, 2025
There is hesitation when depressing the accelerator. After stopping at stop sign then trying to move into traffic the vehicle will not move for several seconds. When the vehicle does move it takes off at an increased rate. This has happened several times from the first day the vehicle drove off the lot until present day.

There is a throttle lag when I depress the acceleration pedal, the vehicle doesnt not move for a period of time ranging from 0.5 seconds to 3 seconds. This is more prominent when performing a creeping start where the vehicle has not fully stopped.
Dec 17, 2025
Lack of throttle response. Takes 5 seconds for the throttle to respond to legal input making it dangerous when accelerating.
May 09, 2025
The major throttle lag. When leaving from a stop it takes a few seconds of pressing the gas before the truck even begins to accelerate. I have had multiple issues with throttle lag when dealing with oncoming traffic. No lights have indicated any issues and all the dealerships can tell me is it’s a common issue.
May 09, 2025
Unknown what component failed. Safety was at risk because the delay in the throttle response can result in get in an accident. I can't reproduce the problem. It happens at random. The vehicle has never been inspected by anyone about this issue. No warning whatsoever. It doesn't happen ofen. Some times it's worse than others.

Occasionally when accelerator is pressed at a stop sign or light there is hesitation before the engine rpms increase. Also happens frequently going up my steep driveway at under 5mph, at half to 3/4 up my 100 yard driveway it will just almost stall out to an idle for a few seconds then will continue on as nothing happened

When at a stop, pushing the gas pedal to go, the truck hesitates. Almost like the truck dies then all of the sudden takes off. I have had multiple instances were i was almostnT-boned. Dealer said that is normal for a vehicle with turbos. We don't experience this with my wife's Kia. No warning lights appear. Just to be clear the truck hesitates at almost every stop when trying to accelerate.
Dec 12, 2025
Throttle lag or hesitation after a stop, and is more frequent after stopping on an incline.
Dec 12, 2025
When accelerating from a stop the truck stumbles and does not take off. This is dangerous as people may run into you. I have asked many times at dealership if there is a fix yet and the answer is no.
Nov 27, 2025
When completing a slow down, when going to accelerate there is a noticeable delay in the engine responding and before actual acceleration. This typically results in the need to press the pedal hard and suddenly it finally accelerates and at times spins the tires, almost uncontrollably. This has caused many near misses when trying to cross oncoming traffic, or entering traffic of a busy road or hwy. There have been no warning lights or indicators of any issues. This can be repeated on demand and even the dealership service tech has felt and acknowledged it. It is a common issue across the Gen 3 Tundras (2022+) models as found across many forums and owners.

As I was coming down thew mounts (44 miles of 7-9% grade) as I slightly hit the brakes the truck shook so badly is was vibrating me off the road. The only way to avoid to to put strain on my engine as to manually shift it down to 3rd gear to forcibly slow the truck to a speed where this could be controlled. Causing overall traffic issues.

There were no warning lights illuminated; however, the contact heard a squeaking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer offered to repair the brakes under a warranty; however, the dealer had informed the contact that the parts were ordered, and the contact had been waiting for three years for the brakes to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was recently taken for an unknown recall repair, and the contact was informed that the brakes were still unavailable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100.
Apr 09, 2025
Front brakes noisy, vehicle shudders when brakes applied. Dealership inspected at 21,000 miles, replaced brake pads and turned rotors at 22,000 miles. Not under warranty, paid out of pocket. Now Toyota admits brake parts were faulty, has new part numbers to repair the defect, but parts have been on backorder for 6 months or more. Toyota needs to recall the defective brakes, and make a remedy (upgraded brake parts) available to ALL affected owners, including those that were denied coverage under warranty, and are still driving around on original, faulty brakes.

My brakes has been malfunctioning since last year November of 2023, the dealership is aware of this. It is putting me and others at risk because I am not sure when my brakes will fail, it has been inspected and confirmed by the dealership.

A month after I bought the truck, I took it to the dealer to have the brakes fixed because they were making a lot of noise. To this day, they have not found a solution to the problem. I have owned the truck since 2022 and since then the skid plate covering the gas tank has broken in the same place. Truck regularly experiences throttle lag leading to dangerous/hesitating entry into traffic/intersections. Bought the truck from BILL LUKE MARANA was told there were no major safety issues with recalls and that the only recall was debris in engine that didn't have a fix yet.... drove the car from dealership to home, upon arriving home my wife smelled gas, i thought it was cleaning fluid smell or something. drove the truck to circle k smelled gas but though it was circle k . drove the truck once more to pick up an employee so i could drop him off to drive home the car i left at the dealer . During this drive the smell of gas became undeniable . Upon arrival home the truck was parked my employee ( who had been driving behind in a different car) jumped out and said the truck was spraying gas . My daughter exited the passenger side of the vehicle and was misted with gasoline. we subsequently found a fuel line was shooting out gasoline. I called bill Luke and told them to tow the truck back they said they couldn't so i was put in a position of having to drive the car back to the dealership. I was in fear of my life if driving this car so I was forced to pay a tow truck to return the truck to bill Luke. After speaking with bill Luke management I was told there are 2 major recalls with the vehicle first debris in the engine that can cause engine failure while driving and second a problem where the fuel line rubs against the brake drum or pad and can chafe to the point of leaking. The second recall issue is the one that put us in danger. I understand that recalls happen but I am under the impression that dealerships have a paramount responsibility to make sure the cars they sell are safe and have complied with major safety recalls. I don't believe this was done at Bill Luke Marana . I believe Bill Luke Marana put me and everyone on the road in danger to sell a car. Please address this monumental failure will ALL bill Luke sales offices and service centers to prevent unnecessary death or suffering in the future.

I’m writing to report a driver’s-door lock malfunction on my 2022 Toyota Tundra and to request goodwill assistance (reimbursement or no-charge repair). VIN: [XXX] Mileage: 38,575 miles Concern: The driver’s door does not lock/unlock using the key fob or interior switch. Manual locking still works. Other doors operate normally. Safety/security impact: The vehicle cannot be reliably secured and the condition may leave the vehicle vulnerable when parked. Troubleshooting performed: Verified other doors work; checked fuses; inspected door-to-body wiring boot; issue appears isolated to the driver-side door lock actuator/latch. Requested resolution: Goodwill coverage for diagnosis and repair (or reimbursement if I proceed with repair now), including parts and labor for the driver-door lock actuator/latch assembly. I’ve been satisfied with the vehicle and would appreciate Toyota’s help resolving this known-type issue just beyond the 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty. Please open a case and advise next steps. The hood “open” sensor failed and indicated that my hood was not properly latched. The hood was latched properly. This resulted in a loud, distracting, and constant beeping that occurs anytime the vehicle is driven over 2 mph. This beeping has the potential to interfere with the driver and may result in an accident.

The Digital Instrument Cluster continues to have freezing and lagging while in motion. The DTE (Distance To Empty) has reset itself in the midst of driving with no input from the driver. This has continued to happen for multiple months. Also, the Fuel Gauge has become stuck. Toyota did release a TSB (T-SB-0022-23) to "resolve" this issue but it continues to be an issue well into the 2024 model year. See attached pictures.

The Digital Instrument Cluster continues to have freezing issues as well as blacking out while driving. From our previous experiences, this is more than likely due to software. There was a Safety Recall (23TA02) that was suppose to address some of these issues, but they continue to exist and happen. Not to mention that the fuel level will reset to FULL even though the vehicle has been driven for most, if not all, of the usable fuel. This continues to happen on 2024 model year vehicles.

The seat protective plastic cover is broke with less than 30k miles and light use. It is a known issue but Toyota informed me when I took it in that they are on universal unavailability. They can’t tell me when the part will be back in stock and there are non in the USA. The airbag is also near this and there is concern that it could damage the airbag. Additionally the damaged plastic cuts the seat and is sharp

Since around 35,000 miles, the 10-way Power Adjustable Driver's Seat makes a terrible squeaky sound when going over any bumps in the road. If the Driver were to move while in the seat, the squeak is present. We have already paid out of pocket (not considered a warranty issue because nothing is "broken"), but the squeak has returned. This is no fault of the dealership, but because of the design that Toyota implemented for just the 10-way Power Adjustable Driver's Seat. If we reduce the Lumbar Support down to its lowest setting, the squeak gets better but it makes the seat that much more uncomfortable. These are the worst seats we've ever had in any vehicle, let alone a Toyota/Lexus product. I do believe the seat structure to have cracked at this point in time. Vehicle is currently in for service.

While driving forward at approximately 20MPH, the automatic emergency brake system activated, causing the vehicle to come to a stop. There were no vehicles or other object in front of the vehicle that should have caused the automatic brake system to activate. This has been an ongoing problem with this vehicle. The system cannot be turned off or disabled by the driver. This system engaging on its own creates a major safety hazard, as vehicles behind have to stop to avoid hitting my stopped vehicle.

Twice it has felt like I was being rear ended. Something is making a slamming motion on the truck when it is stopped. First time was at a stop light, second time was backing up but stopped to put the truck in "drive". I have tried looking up to see if this truck was affected in a 2022 recall but the information is unavailable.

While driving off from a red light, we experienced a severe jolt from when the emergency braking system engaged on its own. There was no vehicle in front us at the time of the incident. The sudden stop was so severe, I thought we had gotten rear ended. This is the second time this incident has happened to us in this vehicle. The first time my wife and 3 small children were accelerating from a stop sign. The truck came to a violent sudden stop. My wife was terrified. We took the vehicle to the dealership. They could not tell us what had happened. They reset the computer and told us it would not happen again. This last incident happen on 6/13/2023. The 2022 Tundra Limited Edition has 8,508. Miles. I bought a new vehicle to make sure my family would feel safe. We are terrified of driving this truck, because it may cause us to get into an accident.

I am writing to file an official complaint regarding a safety issue involving the engine on my 2022 Toyota Tundra, which is subject to an open recall. The component in question has reportedly experienced a malfunction that presents a severe safety hazard. Specifically, I have been informed that there is a potential defect that could lead to the engine catching fire, as indicated by the recall notice. However, I have also been informed that no remedy is currently available for this issue, which has left me with an unresolved and potentially dangerous vehicle. **Safety Risk Assessment:** This issue places both my safety and the safety of others at significant risk. An engine fire could occur suddenly, which would pose an immediate danger to passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians. The inability to have the defect remedied promptly has heightened my concerns, as I am left with limited options for safely using my vehicle. **Confirmation and Inspection:** The issue has been acknowledged by Toyota through an official recall, but a dealer has not been able to inspect or repair the vehicle due to the lack of an available fix for this defect. Despite my attempts to seek a solution, I have been informed that the problem cannot currently be resolved, leaving my vehicle in an unsafe condition. **Warning Signs:** No warning signs were present prior to learning of the recall **Request for Assistance:** Given the severity of this issue and the absence of an available remedy, I am requesting assistance from the NHTSA to ensure that Toyota addresses this defect urgently. I am concerned about the safety implications of continuing to operate my vehicle in this condition, and I seek guidance on how to proceed to mitigate risk while awaiting an official resolution from Toyota. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your support in addressing this critical safety issue. **Sincerely,** [XXX] ] [XXX] [XXX] ] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On 07/10 while accelerating from red to green light, at around 50mph truck shook and alerted my attention to dash/odometer because of immediate slowing of truck. Noticed alert for “Engine Power Loss” and “Brake Failure” and instructed to see dealer. Could not go above 30mph at 2500rpm, thankfully I was 5 minutes from home. Had Tundra towed to dealer. They got Toyota involved and started a case. As of 07/12, dealer was instructed to reset engine valve settings, cleared alerts, and did normal schedule maintenance. I was instructed to drive directly to dealer or pull over where I was and have a technician drive to my location so they could further assess this issue. As if they work 24/7 and would drive outside of city limits…I put 100+ miles a day on my truck for my work commute.

On a cold start, or if you drive with the vehicle in normal mode, from my understanding, vehicles are now fly by wire, the computer has a lag that if you attempt to pull out in front of someone, the truck will simply fail to go, then after a delay. It will take off like a rocket, to circumvent this issue, I have found. If you drive in sport mode, it tends to have less of a delay. But it's a serious safety concern.Along with the other issues with these vehicles, I have had a few close calls, where the throttle response was incredibly delayed.

Tire size 265/60R20. All tires have cracked around the bead of the rim. This was discovered at 24,663 miles during regularly scheduled maintenance at Copeland Toyota in Brockton, MA on March 20, 2025. Defective manufacturing suspected. Upon further investigation of this tire model on the Internet, I discovered dozens of reports of the same sidewall failure by Toyota Tundra owners with very low mileage. I contacted Bridgestone Support on March 20, and per their instruction, took the vehicle to a Bridgestone authorized dealer (Firestone Complete Auto Care, Warren Ave. Brockton, MA) on March 21. The inspection determined that the tires have failed. The technician indicated that Bridgestone has very limited inventory of this tire model, indicative that the tire is being discontinued. I contacted Bridgestone Support on March 21, indicating that there is likely a manufacturing defect, and was advised to report this to the NHTSA, because the Bridgestone employee stated that they have no internal capability to report a potential manufacturing defect. I suspect there is a likelihood that these tires have been discontinued because of defects, but Bridgestone has not alerted customers of such a safety hazard. My Bridgestone Support reference number is [XXX]. Please investigate this as I believe there is a safety hazard due manufacturer defect. Tire tread is cracking and breaking away in small chunks. The tires are OEM (Toyota Tundra 22') Bridgestone Dueler H/T 265/70R18 model 685 with manufacture date of 1022. I do not feel safe driving on these tires due to tread rubber breaking away even in the middle of the tire. All four tires show cracks but both rear tires are worse of the four. I have had regular service and tire rotation by Toyota dealership but they did not notify me of the issue. The truck has 17K on it and tires have plenty of tread depth. Location of truck is in the southwest and not is used in cold environment.

I have a 2022 Tundra that I purchased new. My current mileage is 18,500 and although my truck is part of the engine replacement recall that is not what I am complaining about, what I am complaining about is my front passenger window got stuck halfway open/closed and it's been sitting at the dealership for 2 weeks with no parts available to fix it (the cable snapped and motor burned out). They did put me in a rental (tacoma) but they have no idea when the parts will be available to fix my window! This is my 4th Tundra and never had an issue like this with any of my others. I've already called Toyota and they have no idea when parts will be available either. They also said they have no parts to fix the temporary fuel line recall which has been out for almost 1 year.

Front Active Spoiler Malfunction Last week I took the vehicle into Toyota due to this malfunction message on the vehicle. The spoiler failed and remained in the down position, unknowingly causing additional damage to the spoiler flap. It was determined that the motor assembly was not working and needed to be replaced. The motor, flap and related assemblies were replaced under warranty by the dealership on 07/17/2025. Within 2 days, the spoiler was stuck in the down position again, this time without the malfunction message on the vehicle. With this being stuck in the down position, it can potentially cause more damage to the vehicle being in the down position and lead to debris in the roadway depending on the damage. Toyota manual states to avoid driving the vehicle at high speeds when this issue is present. However, owners with this issue would not know there is an issue if the vehicle is not presenting an error while functioning improperly. The vehicle is scheduled to be looked at again tomorrow 07/22/2025, at Corwin Toyota of Colorado Springs.

While driving during rush hour on a 7 lane roadway (600 block South FM 157, Euless, Tarrant County, Texas 76040) on 07/19/2022 the vehicle's engine turned off. Engine and power steering were inoperable, causing me to be stuck in the left lane of traffic. Numerous warning lights and messages appeared. Truck would attempt to start, but would not. I am a police officer in Euless, Texas and called our wrecker service and police department to provide traffic control until the vehicle could be towed from the roadway. I was nearly struck by several vehicles while waiting for assistance. Toyota was contacted and their wrecker arrived approx. 2 hours later at the Euless Police Dept. to pick up my vehicle and tow it to Toyota of Denton (TX). Toyota of Denton has the truck, claiming an "ECU" computer failure. On 07/28/2022 the service department advised the vehicle was repaired and ready to be picked up. On 08/01/2022 I arrived at Toyota of Denton, started my truck, and was given a check engine message stating "Engine Maintenance Required Visit Your Dealer". I did not attempt to drive the vehicle. The service technician drove the truck back into the shop. I was advised there were addition codes from the ECU, and they still have the vehicle at this time (08/02/2022 1633 hours) with no updates.

While on highway truck decelerated on its own. We were trying 70 mph and the truck dropped to 60 mph while the gas pedal was still manually engaged. Its becoming an increaingly regular problem that the car will not accelerate from a complete stop, even with gas pedal fully engaged. Potential for accident is high, as there is no reliability when pulling out into traffic. Dealership ran diagnositic check during service, was unable to pin-point issue - - is also 2 to 3 months out on service schedule, so issue was reported early June to dealership but unable to service vehicle until mid-August. Dealerships advice was to report directly to Toyota - since no recall remedy was issued for engine issue and the acceleration issue isn't specifically named in their most recent recall for the 2022 model.

The vehicle suffers extreme throttle lag. Pulling away from a stop sign, or turning into traffic the vehicle does not respond to gentle acceleration. What component failed and is it available for inspection? The front driver-side roof seam on my 2022 Toyota Tundra developed corrosion under the paint and eventually opened enough for rainwater to enter the cabin. Water drips directly into the A-pillar area onto the side curtain airbag wiring, squib connector, and padded harness. It also reaches the dashboard and electrical buttons near the steering wheel during rain. The roof seam, A-pillar wiring, interior rust staining, and all affected components remain available for inspection. How was safety put at risk? The A-pillar contains the SRS curtain airbag system, its wiring, and connectors that should never be exposed to moisture. Continuous water intrusion over many months can cause corrosion, increased resistance, short circuits, or damage to the airbag inflator/squib circuit, which may lead to unintended deployment or failure to deploy in a crash. Water reaching the dashboard controls and electrical switches could cause intermittent electrical faults or malfunction of driver controls. These issues present a significant safety risk because the vehicle’s airbag and electrical systems may not function as designed. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed? Yes. The Toyota dealer has repeatedly observed the active leak, interior rust streaks, and bubbling/corrosion along the roof seam. The water intrusion occurs every time it rains. Has the vehicle been inspected? Yes. Toyota has inspected the truck multiple times, including by a Field Technical Specialist. However, Toyota has been unable to provide complete documentation or photos from the FTS inspection, and the underlying safety issue remains unresolved. No inspections have been done by police or insurance. Warning lamps or messages? No warning lamps appeared. The first symptom was water leaking into the cabin around March 2024, followed by rust streaking inside the A-pillar and exterior bubbling. The issue continues during rainfall.

First I had my engine replaced in May 2025 under the recall and service advisor informed me it would be about 3 days before they completed the engine swap and it had to sit to make sure there were no leaks anywhere and in less than 24 hrs the called me and told me my truck was all done. I went to pick my truck up they had it waiting in the service line with the engine running, I heard a strange ticking noise coming from under my hood that sounded like a lawnmower engine, the service tech tells me that is normal with the replacement engines which is absolutely false. Being a woman they tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I got frustrated and got in my truck and when I came to the first stoplight when the light turned green and I stepped on the gas pedal, my truck would not move, after about 5 seconds it surged forward and then again wouldn't move, then again my truck surged forward with a loud thud in the rear like somebody hit me from behind. It feels like it isn't kicking into gear and also my steering wheel was not centered when they swapped the engine so I have to hold my steering off to one side for my truck to drive straight. This has been a nightmare for me and Toyota refuses to acknowledge there is anything wrong. I've also been waiting for 7 months to get my front brakes fixed under the TSB and all they say is we don't have parts available, meanwhile they're building new trucks with new brake pads, rotors and calipers before taking care of the people waiting months and months? They try and wait until your warranty runs out so I have to pay for the fix. Please help. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When attempting to move forward from a stop, there is a momentary delay in the truck responding to stepping on the accelerator pedal. This is a real safety concern when attempting to pull into traffic, as the "dead spot" in the pedal occurs after the truck has already moved forward a few feet, leaving the front end of the truck out in the traffic lane. It appears to be related to the automatic transmission starting in 4th gear, as I can move the shift lever to manual shifting mode and start out in 2nd gear with no hesitation. Once moving I simply move back to Drive mode. This has been an ongoing concern, reported from the first service (10k) on my truck, which now has 45k miles. I received the remedy engine at 37k miles under the safety recall. Toyota seems to be aware of the issue, as they flashed the TCM once, which seemed to help briefly, however the problem quickly returned. I am not the only Tundra owner reporting this issue.

On [XXX] I was traveling in my 2022 Trd Pro Tundra 5.5 hv. I was taking a left turn at a green light, when all of the sudden lights appeared on my dash saying “HYBRID SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, visit your dealer”. The car continued to function for approximately 1 minute, until the next light where it turned off. I tried to turn the vehicle back on, but it started to shake when it tried to start. At this point I was stuck at the light with traffic behind me, the engine had failed and the hybrid system had failed as well. I had to call 911 and request an officer to come assist, because I was blocking traffic. The vehicle had to pulled to a lot where I could unhook my boat that was in tow, and tow the truck to the Beaver Toyota dealership. Even though my truck experienced the same engine failure due to debris in the engine as all the 2022-2023 tundras. My specific truck was not included in this recall because Toyota says the hybrid system would be able to move my car to a safe position if there was an engine failure. This was in fact not true because my hybrid system malfunction at the moment of the engine failure resulting in me stuck in the middle of the road blocking traffic having to call the police. Toyota needs to include trd pro hybrid owners in the 2022-2024 full block recall or face extensive legal action. Transmission or engine has a lag, or dead spot from a complete stop to acceleration, such as leaving a stop light. At times barely noticable, other times it seems the engine is going to die. Dangerous when pulling onto a busy street from a side street. Dealership says "unable to replicate" which is understandable, as it's somewhat intermittent. This appears to be with all model year 2022 and newer Toyota Tundras.

I have so many problems with my truck and the surging engine as well as squealing brakes, lane assist is disabled but comes on and jerks the truck out of my lane and it's impossible to steer almost causing me to crash numeroys times. Every time I try to get the engine replaced which I've been waiting over a year and I was in Phase 2 and every Toyota dealership tells me something different. I can't even sell this truck privately because it needs a new engine. I have 25,300 miles as of today and I've had it in the shop so many times and they say they can't find anything wrong with it. The headliner fell down onto my head and took it in for service and I got it back worse because they broke all the clips that hold the interior headliner in place and it's hanging down. Every time I bring it in for something they tell me the parts are not available but what they're doing is trying to make me run out of my warranty which is in 2 months. They're trying to sell me an extended warranty but they can't even fix anything that's under warranty right now. I really need your help here because there's so many other issues that I haven't even gone over. Everything is misaligned on this truck and they can't fix it my rear passenger door never latched correctly and they don't know what to do they just give it back to me the same way and I have small children that sit back there but they claim they don't know how to fix it.

The cover on the passenger side mirror has a cover with a camera attached that keeps flying off on highways. Last time it came detached from the vehicle and tripped my collision control sending my vehicle into an emergency stop for no reason. I had no warning that this was going to come off nor should I expect body panels to fly off my vehicle. I have expressed this to Toyota and showed evidence of this being a well documented issue with other customers and they are still denying responsibility for this. My vehicle has never been in an accident and this part has never been tampered with. The dealer even feels this is a quality issue with Toyota and tried to help and was unsuccessful.

The vehicle has a delay in the throttle in some situations immediately following a deceleration. For example, when braking onto a yielding on ramp to check for traffic while coming to a near stop then pressing the throttle there is an obvious lag. That second or so of lag often results in the tires spinning due to a spike in throttle. In more than one instance I've experienced it from a dead stop but this is not as common as a slow deceleration to a roll.

LTA feature engaged out of nowhere and my dashboard lit up with red, green and yellow warnings all at once and made my truck swerve back and forth and prevented me from having any control and steered me directly into oncoming traffic almost causing me to have a head on collision. Also the brakes automatically come on out of nowhere for no reason and has almost given me whiplash. I just had major neck surgery with plates and screws put in my cervical spine and if this keeps happening I'm going to need another surgery.

I have a 2022 Tundra with 18,700 miles on it that is part of the recall for a new engine! This is my fourth tundra, and the materials used in the 3rd Gen are sub-par to say the least! I have already had to replace the actuator and motor in my passenger window because it was stuck halfway open/closed and it took the dealership almost 2 weeks just to get the parts and put them in. My tailgate isn't aligned properly and the mold growth on all the rubber window trim is a nightmare as well as the roof wells that are also covered in mold up and down both sides. My rear passenger door doesn't close correctly and nobody at Toyota knows how to fix any of these issues! I am very concerned about a dealership putting a new engine in my truck when they can't even change the oil or rotate my tires correctly. I also have other serious issues like, I feel a giant thud like somebody rear ended me when I step on the gas from a red light or stop sign and sometimes when I step on the gas on the highway and it scares the heck out of me. It almost feels like the back of my truck fell off. When it's raining out and my hood is covered in water and then the rain stops and I turn my windshieldwipers off, the water that rolls down the hood is spit straight into my windshield from the radiator fan! I also took it to the dealership to fix the fuel line recall, and they said they don't have the parts available, it's been over 2 weeks now and the recall was issued last year.

Afraid the airbag will blow up because of the crash sensor popping up and the failure brake senor also popping up. I took it to another dealer to get it fix. The incident started 4/6/2024 and today is 4/23/24 and I still have no truck to drive. I paid 70k for it but more concern for other. On [XXX] I was driving in Connecticut when I realized we had taken the wrong directions. We were following my son’s girlfriend’s iphone which kept changing the directions. When we ended up with an over pass in a parking area I applied my brakes but the brakes didn’t work. I was trying to go left to take an alternate road but couldn’t stop. This kind of thing where the brakes or steering have been happening on and off since we got the truck I believe someone has hacked into it using a car kit is what I found under devices but then it disappeared. It also changes my truck into towing mode which is another thing it does. This is done everyday. I noticed I have no history on my truck. This is because it can be put on and taken off randomly. I believe it is a family members doing this to me. We had a Nissan and they did it to that too. It totaled our new camper. I actually have too very serious issues with my new Tundra. 1) my seat is coming loose from floor of my truck every time I take a corner it feels like it's going to tip over and makes a loud clunk and it feels like the back of the seat is separating from the part where my rear end sits (aka my butt) 2) when it rains the water flows off of the hood and then I am assuming the fan that goes to radiator spits a blast of water right in my driver's side of windshield, this because the poor design of the grill on certain 22 Tundra Limited models. Very dangerous if you ask me or anybody else that has this problem which is quite a few people from what I have seen on 2022 Tundra Forums. Those are just 2 major issues of the many I have.

The brakes failed while traveling 72 miles per hour on cruise control, and controlled distance. I was traveling behind a semi truck in the third lane from the right on Interstate 5 near Stockton, calif. coming upon the truck the Tundra started to accelerate, I hit the brakes numerous times yet tundra continued to accelerate, so i hit cancel on speed control, thru into park, and navigated three lanes left in heavy traffic into the median, still hitting my breaks, Finally stopped the Tundra with emergency break, but took the right rear tire off the rim in my violent exit to the median, Inspection has been complete from Toyota mfg. saying i have a normal truck, Dealer can not confirm problem, there were no warning signs. I am a very experience large animal veterinarian driving over 3 million miles in my career with no accidents, or moving violations. I own a 2007 Tundra with 200,000 miles, no incidents, I know where the brakes are on a tundra.

Randomly when trying to accelerate from a stop or a slow roll (less than 5 MPH) the throttle doesn't respond for 2-3 seconds then the truck will surge. When I say it doesn't respond I mean nothing happens no RPM increase or anything. The dealership wants me to believe that it is turbo lag, but that is just a decrease in power, not total loss of acceleration. This has been an issue since delivery.

I was at a complete stop at a traffic light. When the light turned green, the one car in front made the turn and was a few car lengths ahead before I pressed the accelerator pedal. When I reached a speed of approx. 10+ mph and before I cleared the intersection, the automatic brakes engaged, warning flashed on the display, and engine was no longer idling. I placed truck in park, press ignition control button, then placed in drive and continued on my route. This is concerning because when the emergency brakes activate when you are not expecting it, it jerks your body and neck and the vehicle behind you could rear end you. This incident occurred on 8/22/22. I brought my vehicle in to the dealership on 8/31/22 due to the other existing recalls. I told them about this incident and they recorded it on my file. They looked at the engine data and said nothing was recorded regarding my occurrence. They stated that sometime the sensors act up and think a vehicle is in front of you when in fact there is not.

The Trailer Brake Controller is set to automatically be off until you setup a trailer. So yes, the problem is very repeatable, it's the default setting in the Tundra. I traveled a Rocky Mountain mountain pass towing a 6,500# trailer and had extreme brake fade because unknownst to me the Trailer Brake Controller was off because I didn't setup a trailer in the dash. I manually controlled the gears and kept in 2nd gear down the entire grade. My driving history is towing trailers with a old Ford Ranger ('95?) and 2014 Ford Expedition. The Ford has brake controls and I would use it to tow 3,000#. I don't remember if the Ford Ranger had a brake controller. So my experience is limited. I bought a brand new 22 Toyota Tundra and read the manual for pulling a travel trailer (TT). I upgraded my travel trailer from 3,000# to 6,500# GVWR. It was essentially my first towing trip with both vehicles. I plugged in the TT. Dashboard said "Trailer Detected". I turned the dial in the middle to "Tow Mode". Those signals said to me everything is good. My mistake: When I adjusted the gain manually in the dash it said "Trailer Brake Controller Off". In my mind, I interpreted that as the manual controller was off. Not sure why. I should have stopped there. But dash kept saying "Trailer Detected" so I kept driving. Long story short, after driving the pass and nearly losing the brakes I stopped what I was doing and spent 30 minutes playing in the dash and reading the manual more. I setup the trailer I was driving in the dashboard. No where in the manual does it say "trailer brake controller off until you setup trailer in dash." When I set it up in the dash, I realized that the brake controller defualt was off, even if it says "trailer detected". I could tell because the manual brake controller started working.

I have been noticing since the beginning to middle of March 2022 the truck has been stalling while driving. It has happened 4 times since that time. Twice while in traffic and twice while driving on the highway. You have to come to a complete stop, put the vehicle in park and start the vehicle again. One time it happened we were almost rear ended by a semi truck driving behind us. Along with that, the Air Bag malfunction light has been coming on and off every few days. The fuel gauge has been showing all different fuel amounts as well every day. The truck has been a Toyota dealer for the past week and been communicating with Toyota engineers and I have been told by the service advisor Toyota is aware of these problems but do not have a fix. My family is terrified to drive the truck any longer and is a very dangerous and serious problem. I am not the only one who is experiencing this based on my own research. I did tell my dealer to document this on my record in detail as if anything happens to my family because of an engineering error I will take this to the highest level ever seen.
