Since Toyota replaced the air bags as part of the airbag recall back in 2019 in my 2007 Toyota Yaris (VIN: [XXX]), the airbag signs always stayed on; I'm just worried if this prevents the airbags to deploy in case of a crash. The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the air bag warning light and "Passenger Air Bag Turned Off" warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V741000 (Air Bags) and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The contact stated that the warning lights including the seat belt warning light had been illuminated. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

I have come across multiple post online of other people who had their axle beam failed. - Rear Axle Beam Broken. - Once the axle beam is broken while driving it can lose control and cause a major accident. - Problem has been confirmed by local service center. - Not sure. - No lights on dash.

The rear axle has failed due to corrosion. Loss of right rear wheel assembly was narrowly avoided. Noticed the wheel was squatting oddly and upon inspection the wheel assembly was nearly removed by hand.

The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or a mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000.

My wife was in town driving about 10 mile an hour just pulled away from stop sign, when her drivers side rear tire broke off. We loaded it on a trailer and brought it home. The Axel Beam had completely rusted in two Now Toyota is tell me its 1600 dollar for a new one. I think since they she could have been Killed her they could fix her car.

VEHICLE PARKED, SEAT BELT WILL NOT RETRACT, WILL STAY OUT UNTIL I FEED IT BACK TO THE SLOT. I HAVE A COUPLE OF YEARS WITH THIS PROBLEM HOPING THAT THERE WAS GOING TO BE A RECALL. PLESE HELP, I DON'T FEEL SAFE. SOMETIMES THE SEAT BELT GETS CAUGHT ON THE DOOR SINCE IT WILL NOT RETRACT.

THE DRIVER SEAT BELT DOES NOT RETRACT. WHEN BUCKLED UP, THIS IS REALLY HARD (AND IT TAKES AT LEAST 30 SECONDS) TO UNFASTEN THE DRIVER SEAT BELT. GOOD AFTERNOON I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA YARIS WITH AROUND 108,000 MILES. I MADE AN APPT WITH A LOCAL DEALER TO GO THRU 3 RECALLS IN MY CAR AND ADDITIONALLY TO CHECK ON MY REAR-DRIVER SEATBELT WHICH IS NOT RETRACTING (IT FAILED ON 6-26-16) . I HAVE READ VARIOUS FORUMS STATING THAT VARIOUS OWNERS OF MY MODEL CAR HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THE DEALER FINISHED THE 3 RECALLED ISSUES. THE ISSUE WITH THE REAR SEATBELT WAS RELATED TO A BALL BEARING IN THE SYSTEM THAT WAS NOT ALLOWING FOR THE SEATBELT TO RECOIL. THE DEALER WANTED AROUND $350 TO FIX THE ISSUE. I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THE CAR IS NOT NEW BUT AN ITEM THAT IS NEEDED FOR SAFETY SHOULD NOT GO BAD WITHIN A FAIRLY LONG TIMELINE, IT SHOULD AT LEAST OUTLAST THE CAR. AS I WAS DRIVING THIS PAST WINTER THE ABS REQUIRED MAINTENANCE AND PARKING BRAKE CAME ILLUMINATED AT THE SAME TIME. CHECKED PARKING BRAKE AND FOUND TO BE NOT ENGAGED. PUMPED BRAKES AND APPEARED NORMAL OPERATION. LATER CHECKED BRAKE FLUID AND AGAIN APPEARED NORMAL LEVEL. BOTH LIGHTS STAYED CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED FOR THREE DAYS. CURRENTLY BOTH LIGHTS COLLECTIVELY ALTERNATE BETWEEN ON AND OFF DURING VEHICLE OPERATION.

IN DECEMBER 2010, OUR '07 YARIS' ABS LIGHT STARTED TO TURN ON INTERMITTENTLY. AS DAYS PASSED, IT REMAINED ON LONGER AND LONGER UNTIL IT JUST STAYED ON ALL THE TIME. WOULD HAVE LIVED WITH NO ABS EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT WE HAD A NEWBORN ON THE WAY. ALSO, THE BRAKE SYSTEM SPORADICALLY SHUTTERED AND MALFUNCTIONED ODDLY UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. SO WE BIT THE BULLET AND GOT IT FIXED IN MAY 2011. TURNS OUT, THE RIGHT REAR SPEED SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED DUE TO WATER INFILTRATION. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE AND DISCUSSED IN POSTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. OUR YARIS IS A COMMUTER CAR AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN WATER OTHER THAN WHAT LAYS ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE WE DRIVE IN RAIN AND SNOW. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THE LEFT SIDE GOES. WE COULDN'T AFFORD THE $800 FIX THE FIRST TIME AROUND, BUT WE MANAGED. BUT WE SURE WON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR THE NEXT FIX. IT JUST ISN'T RIGHT. MY ARGUMENT IS SIMPLE: A SPEED SENSOR IS NOT AN ITEM THAT SHOULD WEAR OUT AND MALFUNCTION IN THREE YEARS. WHAT'S MORE, TOYOTA HAS SINCE REDESIGNED THIS ASSEMBLY-WHAT I TAKE AS THEIR ADMISSION OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAULTY DESIGN OF THIS CRITICAL ABS COMPONENT. HOW MANY OTHER YARIS OWNERS ARE OUT THERE RIGHT NOW WHO CAN'T AFFORD THIS EXPENSIVE FIX. THEIR BRAKE SYSTEMS WORKING IMPROPERLY? THE PROBLEM WITH MY 2007 TOYOTA YARIS IS SUDDEN ACCELERATION WITH ACCELERATOR GETTING STUCK AT PARTIALLY DEPRESSED LEVELS (AROUND 50-60 MPH). I HAVE TO PRESS BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT TO STOP. THIS IS SPORADIC AND HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. I TOOK IT TO VANN YORK TOYOTA IN HIGH POINT, NC AND THEY TOLD ME THE CAUSE OF MY PROBLEM WAS AFTER MARKET FLOOR MATS. THEY CONCLUDED THIS AFTER ONE TIME TRAVELING AROUND 60 MPH. THIS IS NOT THE CASE BECAUSE THIS HAPPENS WITHOUT THE FLOOR MAT INTERFERENCE. THIS IS STILL HAPPENING AND I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL GET STUCK AND I WON'T BE ABLE TO STOP IT. ON 2/21/13 I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE IN A HOSPITAL UNDERGROUND GARAGE. I WAS ABOUT 3 FEET FROM A CONCRETE WALL WHEN I SUDDENLY ACCELERATED HITTING THE WALL. I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON. THE AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED HITTING ME IN THE FACE. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED,. I WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE VEHICLE BY THE FIRE DEPT. AND EMS AND TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM. THERE X-RAYS OF MY SPINE WERE TAKEN. I HAD NO SPINAL FRACTURES SO I WAS DISCHARGED A FEW HOURS LATER. I SUFFERED SEVERE HEADACHES AND BODY ACHES FOR 3 WEEKS. MY GLASSES WERE BENT OUT OF SHAPE FROM THE AIRBAG HITTING THEM.THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE AND WAS TOWED TO THE BODY SHOP. I PICKED UP THE CAR ON 3/13/13 AFTER MULTIPLE REPAIRS WERE DONE INCLUDING REPLACING THE FRONT BUMPERS, HEADLIGHTS, AIRBAG, SEATBELT, PULLING THE FRAME BACK INTO CORRECT POSITION ETC. THIS COST $6200. ON 3/14/13, AFTER A CALL TO THE TOYOTA HOME OFFICE. I MET AN ENGINEER AT TOYOTA OF NASHUA WHERE HE UNDERWENT AN INSPECTION OF THE BLACK BOX AND A CHECK OF THE RECORDING OF THE AIRBAG ECU. THE 6 PAGE REPORT THAT HE GAVE ME INDICATED THAT NO DATA WAS RECOVERED AND NO EVENTS HAD OCCURRED. I AM PUZZLED HOW THAT CAN BE AS THE AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED. I AM NOW LEFT WITH A VEHICLE THAT WAS IN PERFECT SHAPE BEFORE THE CRASH AND HAS NOW LOST A GREAT DEAL OF THE TRADE IN VALUE. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE NO ONE CAN TELL ME THAT THE VEHICLE IS SAFE AND WILL NOT UNDERGO ANOTHER UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AS I EXPERIENCED ON 2/21.AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH, I DROPPED MY CELL PHONE AND WHEN I RETRIEVED IT FROM THE FLOOR MAT I NOTICED THAT THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT HINDERING THE ACCELERATOR AND WAS PERFECTLY FLAT. COINCIDENTLY, ON 3/7/13, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT MY CAR IS ENROLLED IN A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST TOYOTA RE: ETCS BEING DEFECTIVE WHICH MAY CAUSE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. *TR

EVERY TIME I USE THE AIR CONDITIONING, THE FRONT PASSENGER CARPET GETS SOAKED. I HAVE PULLED UP THE CARPETING AND CLEANED OUT THE DRAIN TUBE AND TRIED EVERYTHING ELSE SO MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE TRIED. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND ALMOST EVERY UNPAINTED SURFACE IN THE CAR HAS RUST ON IT. THE MOLD SMELL IS TERRIBLE. THIS IS A VERY BAD SITUATION. THE CONTACT AND A PASSENGER WERE INJURED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION AS A RESULT OF THE TRUNK SLAMMING SHUT. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I HIT A SMALL POT HOLE IN THE ROAD WITH MY 2007 TOYOTA YARIS. AFTERWARD, THE CARD STARTED MAKING ALL KINDS OF NOISE IN THE LEFT, FRONT QUANDRANT. I TOOK THE CAR TO ADAM'S TOYOTA IN LEE'S SUMMIT, MO. THEY SAID THE LEFT, FRONT CRADLE BOLT BROKE. THIS IS THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE ENTIRE CRADLE TO THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THIS SEEMS LIKE A STRUCTURAL PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE BASED ON WHAT I HAVE READ ON-LINE. I CALLED TOYOTA DIRECTLY. THEY SIMPLY STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS AND DISMISSED ME. I AM NOT STUCK WITH A $505 BILL TO REPLACE A BOLT THAT POSES A SAFETY HAZARD! *KB

MY ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME ON MY 2007 YARIS SEDAN. THE MANUAL STATES TO CONTACT THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY IN THIS SITUATION. THE ABS IS DISABLED IN THIS SITUATION. THE PROBLEM WAS A LEFT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR SHORTED (CODE P0215). DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON THE CONNECTION THE WIRING HARNESS WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE REPLACED PARTS WERE 89544-02070 (SENSOR, SKID CONTROL) AND 89516-52100 (WIRE, SKID CONTROL). THE AMOUNT OF CORROSION ON THE SENSOR AND CONNECTING WIRES ON THE YARIS POINT TO A POTENTIAL DESIGN ISSUE. AS IT TURNS OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON 2007 AND 2008 YARIS'S. TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A TBS, THUS THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO DEVELOP WHEN THE CARS ARE DRIVEN IN WINTER CONDITIONS..I.E. SNOW...AS WAS THE CASE WITH MINE YARIS. I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA YARIS, PURCHASED AUGUST 2006. THE BRAKE AND ABS INDICATOR LIGHTS STARTING COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY IN DECEMBER 2009 (OFTEN WHEN IT WAS RAINING OR SNOWING OUTSIDE), MY DEALER SAID THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY AN ISSUE WITH THE RIGHT REAR SPEED SENSOR, AND SHOULDN'T INDICATE ANY ACTUAL PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, SOON AFTERWARD (JANUARY 2010), I STARTED EXPERIENCING BRAKE PROBLEMS---THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD SHUDDER OR VIBRATE OCCASIONALLY, EVEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A SMOOTH SURFACE AT LOW SPEEDS. EVEN PUMPING THE BREAKS, I HAD TROUBLE STOPPING AND SLID THROUGH A STOP SIGN MORE THAN ONCE. MY DEALER SAID THIS INDICATED THAT THE ABS WAS KICKING IN WHEN IT SHOULDN'T, AND RECOMMENDED A $600 REPLACEMENT OF THE RIGHT REAR SPEED SENSOR. THE CAR IS A DAILY COMMUTE CAR WITH 75,000 MILES AT THE TIME. THE PROBLEM WAS AN INTERNAL FAILURE OF THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SENSOR (PART NUMBER 42450-52060 / HUB & BRG ASSY R), AND CLEANED CORROSION FROM THE WIRING HARNESS WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE SPEED SENSOR. THE TOTAL REPAIR COST WAS OVER $650. THE AMOUNT OF CORROSION ON A CAR JUST OVER 2 YEARS OLD ON THE REAR ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSORS SHOWS A POTENTIAL DESIGN FLAW IN THIS PART AND HOW IT IS ATTACHED ON THE YARIS VEHICLE LINE. THIS FAILURE DISABLES THE ABS SYSTEM AND CAUSES ERRATIC OPERATION. ON ONE OCCASION ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER WHILE THE ABS LIGHT WAS OFF I HAD A BRAKE ANOMALY. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AT A PARKING LOT STOP SIGN AT SLOW SPEED (~5MPH) AND THE ABS KICKED IN AND I COULDN'T STOP. THE WEATHER AND STREET WAS DRY. IT TOOK MORE THAN 25FT TO STOP! THIS VEHICLE WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, BY DESIGN, AS I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A TOYOTA TECHNICIAN, WILL NOT UPSHIFT UNTIL THE VEHICLE HAS WARMED COMPLETELY. THIS IS NOT ONLY A HAZARD IN TRAFFIC AND IS TORTURE ON THE ENGINE, BUT IT IS A HAZARD WHEN ONE NEEDS TO USE THIS VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. FOR INSTANCE SOME ONE NEEDS TO BE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY. WITH THIS VEHICLE YOU ARE REQUIRED TO WAIT UNTIL IT WARMS UP BEFORE ONE IS ABLE TO TRANSPORT. THERE ARE MANY OTHER SITUATIONS WHICH COULD BE PRESENTED, BUT I AM SURE THAT ANYONE WHO READS THIS DOCUMENT WI8LL UNDERSTAND THE ISSUE. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL AND DESIGN THE VEHICLE TO CHANGE GEARS IF THE COMPUTER DETERMINES THAT THE DRIVER IS DETERMINED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE CONTRARY TO ITS PROGRAMMED DRIVE PATTERN. I NOTICE THAT THE DOCUMENT CL-10283172-6703 HAS PROCLAIMED THE SAME PROBLEM. AS REPORTED THERE, THE COLDER THE TEMPERATURE THE LONGER IT TAKES FOR THE VEHICLE TO WARM UP. THIS WARM UP PERIOD IS MUCH LONGER THAN THE AVERAGE WARMING TIME FOR A VEHICLE. THIS IS A CRITICAL ISSUE FOR THIS VEHICLE AND ANY OTHERS THAT HAVE THE SAME WARMING REQUIREMENTS. IF ONE WAS REQUIRED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN A MANNER INCONSISTENT WITH ITS PRESCRIBED PROCEDURES, IT APPEARS THAT A BLOWN ENGINE WOULD PROBABLY BE THE RESULT. MOMENTS LATER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CLUTCH PEDAL HAD FALLEN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC; WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PIVOT BALL HAD BROKEN AND THE ENTIRE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 82000.

EVERY MORNING WINTER OR SUMMER, I HAVE TO WAIT FOR MY CAR TO WARM UP IN ORDER TO DRIVE IT UP THE ROAD IF I WANT TO GO MORE THAN 25 MPH. THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT WANT TO GO OUT OF FIRST GEAR UNTIL THE CAR IS AT A CERTAIN TEMP. I CAN'T GO UP A ROAD THAT IS 35-45 MPH IF I JUST STARTED MY CAR, OTHERWISE THERE WOULD BE ALOT OF UPSET PEOPLE BEHIND ME BECAUSE I CAN'T GO FAST UNTIL THE CAR WARMS UP. THE DEALER TELLS ME THAT IS COMMON FOR ANY TOYOTA CAR AS THEY MAKE THEM THAT WAY TO ENSURE THEY LAST AS LONG AS THEY DO. YOU SHOULD NEVER JUST GET IN YOUR CAR AND GO. IT NEEDS TO WARM UP AND GET FLUIDS TO THE PROPER TEMPERATURE. EXPERIENCED FAILURE OF EXHAUST SYSTEM DUE TO POOR CONNECTION JOINT AND GASKET DESIGN. INTERNET SEARCH REVELED OTHER FAILURES OF EXHAUST GASKET MATERIAL BUT NO TSB WAS FOUND. ENGINE OPERATION RESULTS IN MOVEMENT OF EXHAUST JOINT WHICH WEARS AT THE GASKET MATERIAL. THIS OPERATIONAL WEAR AND EXHAUST HEAT BREAKS DOWN THE GASKET MATERIAL DEVELOPING AN EXHAUST LEAK PRODUCING AN AUDIBLE NOISE AND IN-CABIN SMELL COMPLAINT. THE NOISE IS MOST AUDIBLE DURING ACCELERATION BUT THE IN-CABIN EXHAUST SMELL IS MORE CONSTANT. REPAIR REQUIRES A NEW EXHAUST GASKET ($30), NEW BOLTS ($5), NEW TENSION SPRINGS ($5), PLUS 0.5HR OF LABOR CHARGES. PARTS REPLACED AND TEST DRIVE CONFIRMED COMPLETE REPAIR. NONE OF THE PARTS ARE UPDATED FROM ORIGINAL SO IT IS EXPECTED THAT THIS FAILURE WILL RETURN IN TIME. THERE IS CONCERN THAT THE LEAKING EXHAUST GASES ARE ENTERING THE CABIN WHICH COULD BE A CONTAMINATE RISK FOR THE DRIVER AND OCCUPANTS. FAILURE OF THIS SIMPLE COMPONENT IS IRRITATING TO THE CONSUMER AND IRRESPONSIBLE OF THE MANUFACTURER. I bought a 2007 Toyota Yaris brand new. It's a one owner car with 216000 miles. 5 years ago, I noticed that the side skirt was rusty near the back wheel. Over time, they rusted out. One month ago, while pulling in at the gas station, I heard a crunch. I felt the drivers side of my car go down as well. Got out and drivers rear wheel was tilted in at the top. The passenger rear wheel was also leaning in at the top. The rear axle was rusted out on the welds. The car was about to crumple up in two. It looks to me like the car had a defect in which water somehow accumulated or ran down the back of that side skirt and rusted it, then the rear axle out. My little economical car is junked out. It may be one of the cheapest cars...well I'm a poor person. I worked my butt off to pay for that and I thought because it was a toyota that it would last. I was wrong. Thank God I only going 5mph. That could easily kill someone. Of course toyota killed all kinds of people a couple of years after I bought that yaris. I knew they were not to be trusted at that point. I thought I was going to keep my yaris forever. I guess I thought wrong.

DURING ROLLING BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC, HEARD A LOUD POP FROM THE FRONT END. AFTERWARDS THE FRONT END KEPT MAKING A ODD GRIND SOUND WHEN I PUT ON THE BRAKES OR WENT OVER A SLIGHT BUMP. I BROUGHT MY 2007 TOYOTA YARIS INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THE BRAKES LOOKED AT AS I WAS HEARING A CLUNKING NOISE GOING OVER UNEVEN ROADS AT SLOW SPEEDS AND I WAS FEELING A STICKING WITH THE BRAKES. THE DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME THAT THE BRAKES WERE FINE BUT THAT A BOLT IN THE FRONT CROSS ARM OF THE SUSPENSION HAD RUSTED AND BROKEN OFF. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE 2007-2011 YARIS AND THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT ADVISED ON REPLACING THE WHOLE CROSSMEMBER WITH A NEW DESIGN. THE WARRANTY ONLY COVERED THE CAR UP TO 3 YEARS OR 36000 MILES BUT MY CAR IS 3.5 YEARS AND 53000 MILES. THE COST OF THE PARTS AND REPAIR WAS OVER $2500 AND SINCE IT WAS A SAFETY CONCERN I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO DRIVE THE CAR WITHOUT FIXING IT. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED TOYOTA, WHO THEN AGREED TO PAY FOR THE PARTS. I WAS STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING THE $848 IN LABOR TO REPAIR SOMETHING THAT TOYOTA HAD DESIGNED INCORRECTLY. I HAD TO PAY THE BILL IN ORDER TO GET MY CAR OUT BUT THE DEALERSHIP ENCOURAGED ME TO CONTINUE TO CONTACT TOYOTA DIRECTLY AS THEY AGREED THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE THAT TOYOTA SHOULD RESOLVE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA USA AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY "TECHNICALLY" DIDN'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING SINCE IT'S NOT A RECALL AND THAT BECAUSE THEY ALREADY PAID FOR THE PARTS, THAT WAS THE SAME AS ME "AGREEING" THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE LABOR. TOYOTA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH A DESIGN FLAW IN A MAJOR STRUCTURAL ELEMENT OF THE CAR. A BOLT SHOULDN'T RUST IN LESS THAN 4 YRS, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S A SAFETY CONCERN. I THINK THAT WITH TIME, MORE YARIS OWNERS WILL BEGIN TO EXPERIENCE THIS AND IT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO FURTHER BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT OR KILLED AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE. CLUNKING NOISE HEARD DURING VEHICLE OPERATION OVER ROADWAY BUMPS OR APPLICATION OF BRAKES. INSPECTED TO FIND FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM BOLT MISSING FROM DRIVERSIDE SUBFRAME AND EVIDENCE OF CORROSION. THIS BOLT IS LOCATED AT THE REAR OF THIS CONTROL ARM AND PASSES THROUGH THE SUBFRAME. BOLT HEAD AND PORTION OF SHANK WAS MISSING DUE TO CORROSION AND FATIGUE FAILURE. LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS LOOSE, POSING AN UNSAFE OPERATION CONDITION. TOYOTA HAS AN EXISTING TSB ON THIS ISSUE BUT DEALER STATED THAT TSB REPAIR TIMEFRAME IS PAST DUE SO THIS REPAIR WAS PAID OUT OF POCKET. SUBFRAME REMOVED, PORTION OF BOLT EXTRACTED, AND BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS REPLACED DUE TO RESULTANT DAMAGES. The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, an abnormal sound was heard, and the sunroof was opened halfway. The contact pulled over and noticed the sunroof glass had detached from the vehicle. There was no impact to the sunroof that could have caused it to detach. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was unavailable.

WE PURCHASE ANOTHER POWER SWITCH THINKING THAT WE DID NOT WANTED THE CAR CATCH A FIRE. NOW ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO WE EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUE WITH ANOTHER YARIS. AND THIS TIME THE FIRE WAS A BIT BIGGER THAN BEFORE. SINCE WE HAD TO TAKE THE DISCONNECT THE POWER SWITCH AND BLOW THE FIRE OUT OURSELVES. ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2013, WHILE TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL AND ATTEMPTING TO PARK MY 2007 TOYOTA YARIS I HEARD A LOUD CRACK. I KNEW SOMETHING WAS DEFINITELY WRONG AND QUICKLY REALIZED THAT A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE WHEEL HAD BROKEN AS THE STEERING PIECE WAS NO LONGER TURNING THE WHEELS. IN FACT, THE STEERING PIECE JUST SPUN AROUND 360 DEGREES. I LEFT MY CAR IN PARK AND CALLED A FRIEND WHO REALLY KNOWS CARS. UPON EXAMINING THE CAR, HE IMMEDIATELY SAID THAT SOMETHING WAS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THAT TOYOTA PART AND IT NEVER SHOULD HAVE BROKEN ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THE PART IS COVERED BY A PROTECTIVE BOOT AND IS NOT LOCATED IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY, I COULD HAVE DIED. ON 6/1/10 MY 2007 TOYOTA YARIS WOULD NOT START AND AFTER A FEW TRIES I FOUND GAS POURING FROM THE AREA BELOW THE GAS TANK. THIS ONLY OCCURRED WHEN THE STARTER WAS RUNNING AND APPEARED TO COME FROM A LEAK BETWEEN THE FUEL PUMP AND THE ENGINE. I THEN CALLED LEXINGTON, MA TOYOTA AND THEY ARRANGED TO HAVE A TOW TRUCK PICK UP THE CAR AND TAKE IT TO THEIR GARAGE. TOYOTA THEN CALLED TO SAY THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A BREAK IN THE FUEL LINE FROM THE FUEL PUMP AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER THE PART AND IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE WE WOULD GET THE CAR BACK. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT COVERED BY THE VEHICLE WARRANTY. WE HAVE HAD THE YARIS FOUR YEARS AND IT HAS ABOUT 9000 MILES ON IT. WHEN I READ THE WARRANTY DESCRIPTION IN THE TOYOTA MANUAL IT SAYS THAT THE FUEL PUMP, SEALS, AND GASKETS IN THE POWER TRAIN ARE COVERED FOR 60 MONTHS AND 60,000 MILES AND NONE OF THE WARRANTY EXCEPTIONS APPLIED. I QUESTION TOYOTA'S CONCLUSION THAT THIS FAILURE IS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY AND APPEAL THIS DECISION. THE GAS LINE WAS CLEARLY ABRADED WHICH COULD HAVE HAPPENED BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER MANUFACTURE. THEY CLAIMED THAT THE ABRASION HAD BEEN DONE BY AN ANIMAL IN MY GARAGE BUT, 1) THE CAR IS STORED IN A CLOSED GARAGE, 2) THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY EVIDENCE OF ANIMALS IN THE GARAGE, AND 3) ANIMAL DAMAGE IS NOT AMONG THE LIST OF EXCLUDED CONDITIONS. HAS CONFIRMED TO ME THAT THE 2007 MANUAL-TRANSMISSION TOYOTA YARIS ENGINE HAS INSUFFICIENT COMPRESSION TO HOLD THE CAR ON AN INCLINE WHEN THE ENGINE IS OFF AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN FIRST GEAR. I EXPERIENCE A CONTINUAL BUMPING-BACK ON A SLIGHT HILL. (I DISCOVERED THIS ONLY WHEN I HADN'T SET THE PARKING BRAKE BECAUSE I WAS SITTING IN THE CAR.) I'VE DRIVEN STICK-SHIFTS ALL MY LIFE AND EVERY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC I'VE SHOWN THIS TO HAS AGREED THAT IT IS A TRAGEDY WAITING TO HAPPEN. SEVERAL NOTED THAT IT IS CALLED "REVERSE DIESELING". PROBLEM #1: CONSUMERS ARE NOT BEING INFORMED OF THIS SITUATION. I'D NEVER HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR IF I'D KNOWN. SOLUTION: A LETTER MUST BE SENT TO ALL YARIS OWNERS IMMEDIATELY, INFORMING THEM OF THIS. IN APPROXIMATELY MAY 2015 I REPLACED THE HUB ON THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL. AFTER THE ITEM WAS REPLACED AND ABS SENSOR REATTACHED I HAVE HAD THE ISSUE OF ABS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT ON CONTINUALLY ON THE DASH UPON STARTUP, THEY NEVER GO OFF!!! NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAVE LOST ABS SINCE THAT TIME. I HAVE HAD THE DIAGNOSTICS CHECKED AND THERE WERE THREE ABS RELAY SENSOR WARNING FAULTS, FRONT RIGHT, AND BOTH BACK WHEELS. SINCE THEN I HAVE REPLACED ALL THE WIRING HARNESSES FOR THE THREE WHEELS. THE DIAGNOSTIC SHOWS NO ABS RELAY FAULTS. THE ABS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT STILL INCESSANTLY STAY LIT ON THE DASH. I HAVE ALSO TRIED TO RESET THE INTERNAL COMPUTER BY REMOVING THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL ON THE BATTERY. I AM IN THE MILITARY AND HAVE READ MANY ISSUES AND FAULTS REGARDING THIS ABS ISSUE, AND IT WOULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE FOR TOYOTA OR A MECHANIC TO TRY AND FIX THIS ISSUE, THAT I HAVE SEEN OCCURRING ON MANY TOYOTAS ACROSS THE USA. INTERNET SEARCH REVELED EXISTING ISSUE IN TSB EG048-07 WHICH NOTES WATER ENTERS FILLER PIPE COVER, CONTAMINATES CANISTER FILTER, THEN DAMAGES THE EVAP PUMP LOCATED IN CHARCOAL CANISTER. REPAIR REQUIRES AN UPDATED FILLER COVER ($6), REPLACEMENT OF FILTER ($50), NEW CANISTER ($600), PLUS 0.5HR OF LABOR CHARGES. APPLICABLE WARRANTY IS 3YEAR/36000MILES. DURING REPAIR REPLACED FILLER COVER, FILTER, THEN CLEANED ENTIRE SYSTEM OF WATER. NOTE: THIS YARIS WAS ALREADY BUILT USING THE UPDATED FILLER COVER P/N. YARIS FAILED THE FOLLOWING TEST DRIVE DONE IN ATTEMPT TO AVOID EXPENSIVE CANISTER REPLACEMENT. FOLLOWED TOYOTA SERVICE MANUAL TO TROUBLESHOOT CANISTER WHICH LEAD TO PERMANENT DAMAGE. IT APPEARS THAT WHEN WATER SPLASHES UP UNDER THE CAR AND GETS CAUGHT THERE IS NO WAY FOR THE WATER TO DRAIN. IT JUST SITS ON THE BOLT. IF/WHEN THIS RUSTS OUT THE CONTROL ARM COULD SEPARATE FROM HE SUSPENSION AND CAUSE THE AUTOMOBILE TO LOSE CONTROL. IT IS AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW. I URGE YOU AND TOYOTA TO LOOK INTO THIS AND ISSUE A RECALL IMMEDIATELY, AS THERE IS MANY OTHER AUTOS ON THE ROAD WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. IT IS A SIMPLE FIX IF CAUGHT UP FRONT. UNFORTUNATELY FOR FOLKS LIKE ME, WHO ALREADY HAD THIS HAPPEN TO. IT WILL COST HUNDREDS. FORTUNATELY, NOTHING HAS HAPPENED TO ME ME YET. FOUR (4) FAILURES FOR THE SAME REASON, CAR STOPS RUNNING, RUNS OUT OF GAS EVEN THOUGH THE GAS PANEL SHOWS THREE AND FOUR LINES OF GAS AVAILABLE. PURCHASED A 07 TOYOTA YARIS ON 6/7/2010 CERTIFIED WITH 77302 MILES ON IT FOR MY SON. CAR HAS HAD NO INCIDENTS UNTIL 7/25/10 AT APPROX 7:30 - 7:45PM EST. DRIVING CONDITIONS WERE SUNNY AND CLEAR. MY SON AND I HAVE DRIVEN ON THE ROAD MANY TIMES BEFORE AS IT IS VERY CLOSE TO THE HOUSE. WHEN MY SON WAS TRYING TO BEAR RIGHT AROUND A TURN AT THE TOP OF THE HILL WHILE GOING APPROX 25-30 MPH HE COULD NOT TURN RIGHT TO STAY IN HIS LANE. APPLIED THE BRAKES WHILE THE CAR DROVE DIRECTLY INTO A LARGE TREE. THERE WAS NO WAY TO AVOID THE TREE AS THE CAR WOULD NOT ALLOW HIM TO STEER IT. THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT IS 40 MPH FOR THE GENERAL AREA AND 25 MPH SUGGESTED SPEED FOR THE CURVE. ALTHOUGH NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, NEITHER DRIVER OR PASSENGER WERE INJURED. DAMAGE TO FRONT END AND THE LEFT QUARTER PANEL PUSHED BACK INTO THE LEFT DOOR SO THE HINGE IS IMPEDED WHEN OPENING THE DOOR. ENGINE WAS PUSHED BACK ON A TILT. THE OFFICER SAID HE COULD NOT SEE ANY OTHER WAY THE ACCIDENT COULD HAVE HAPPENED AS NO ONE WOULD WILLINGLY DRIVE DIRECTLY INTO A TREE ON PURPOSE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT EVENING. ON 7/26 I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER (SM) AS DIRECTED BY THE GM. THE SM SUGGESTED I SPEAK TO TOYOTA VIA AN 800 #. I CALLED, GAVE DETAILS AS DESCRIBED ABOVE AND HAVE A CASE NUMBER. I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE MANAGER ON 7/27 AND WAS PROMISED A REGIONAL TOYOTA INVESTIGATOR WOULD LOOK AT THE CAR WITHIN 10-14 BUSINESS DAYS. SHORTLY THEREAFTER I SPOKE TO THE COLLISION MANAGER TO ADVISE HER OF THE ISSUE AND WAITED FOR SOMEONE TO CONTACT ME FROM TOYOTA ADVISING ME WHEN THE INSPECTION WILL TAKE PLACE. ON 8/13 A REP FROM TOYOTA'S EXEC. OFFICE CONTACTED ME AND INDICATED I WOULD NEED TO SIGN AN EDR DATA READOUT AUTHORIZATION AND CONSENT FORM. THEY THINK THE INSPECTION WILL OCCUR ON 8/19 OR 8/20. I HAVE REQUESTED TO VIDEOTAPE THE COMPUTER SCREEN DURING THE DOWNLOAD OF EDR & ECM DATA ALONG WITH IT BACKED UP ON A USB DRIVE AND GET A PRINTOUT AND EXPLANATION FROM THE INSPECTOR. *TR

MY TOYOTA YARIS 2007 SEDAN IS JERKING . I TOOK IT FOR A SERVICE AT TOYOTA TWO WEEKS BACK BUT IT STILL DOES THE SAME. THEY CHANGED THE PETROL FILTER. THE JERKING NEVER WENT AWAY. BEEN DRIVING A 2007 YARIS SINCE JULY 2006 - NO PROBLEMS, NOW HAVE 51,200 MILES ON IT. ON A COMPLETELY DRY AND FLAT ROAD ON 4/9/10, I WAS APPROACHING A YELLOW LIGHT AT APPX. 40 MPH AND BEGAN BRAKING. RIGHT BEFORE THE LIGHT, AS I HIT A LITTLE BUMP (UNEVEN PAVEMENT SECTION WHERE IT CHANGED FROM BRIDGE SURFACE TO BLACKTOP) THE ENGINE SURGED -- I FELT IT, SAW THE RPM NEEDLE GO UP AND HEARD THE ENGINE REV. I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 TOYOTA YARIS ON MARCH 30,2010 AROUND 1600 HRS AND THE ACCELERATOR STUCK IN THE FULL THROTTLE POSITION AND CAUSED A COLLISON AFTER THE BRAKES FAILED TO HOLD THE VEHICLE BACK FOR APPROX 200 FEET DOWN THE ROAD. WHEN A GOOD SAMARITAN STOPPED THE ACCELERATOR WAS STILL STUCK FULL THROTTLE AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SKID OFF THE ROADWAY INTO A DITCH WHERE IT TRAVELED DOWN THE DITCH COMING TO REST AGAINST A LARGE BOULDER. I SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION AND KNEE AND HIP PAIN ASSOCIATED WITH THE IMPACT. I AM WISHING TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT SINCE YARIS HAS NOT BEEN MENTIONED IN ANY OF THE LITERATURE I HAVE FOUND PRINTED BY TOYOTA. MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AT BRYAN EASLER TOYOTA IN HENDERSONVILLE NC AND HAD 50000 MILES ON IT AND IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY ALL MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED AT THIS LOCATION AND THEY SHOULD HAVE ANY RECORDS YOU REQUIRE. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME YESTERDAY THAT THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO. MY OPTIONS WERE TO DEAL WITH IT OR PURSUE THE LEMON LAW. IN ADDITION, I WAS GIVEN A 2007 CAMRY LOANER CAR WHILE THEY LOOKED INTO THE PROBLEM, AND THE RADIO IN IT DID THE SAME THING. ACCELERATOR ON 2007 YARIS IS SENSITIVE AT LOWER RPMS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO START OFF IN FIRST GEAR CAUSING A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE WHEN STARTING OFF ON A HILL OR STEEP GRADE.
