TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 ACURA MDX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT THE DRIVE WAY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO REVERSE INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY PUTTING ROCKS BEHIND THE TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-999-1009 AND WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER AND ALSO A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. A CASE NUMBER 06320658 WAS PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

THIS CAR HAS 131,000 MILES ON IT AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. AFTER READING 37 PAGES FROM OTHER OWNERS ON EDMONDS THEY COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME THING. THIS TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE BAD. THERE SHOULD BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT BECAUSE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM FROM THE 2003 ON. I EXPECT SOME RECOURSE ON PAYING FOR THIS TRANSMISSION. THE COST IS ALMOST $5000

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. TORQUE CONVERTER ISSUES. LOOKS LIKE THE WIDELY KNOWN COMPLAINT ABOUT THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION ISSUE IN HONDA PILOTS AND ACURA MDX. MY ACURA MDX 2004 CLEARLY HAS THE GRINDING SOUND (INTERMITTENT) WHEN DRIVING 35-40 MPH. THE ISSUE WAS KNOWN BY ACURA IN APR 2004 (RECALL), WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN MAY 2004 AND WERE NEVER TOLD. WE NOW HAVE 150K MILES ON IT BUT WE HAVE HAD THE ISSUE FOR A WHILE - WHEN ASKING THE DEALER THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HEAR IT (IT IS INTERMITTENT) AND IGNORED IT - YES, IT IS COMMONLY KNOWN TO CAR OWNERS BUT NOT THE DEALERSHIPS. I NOW HAVE MY KIDS DRIVING THIS CAR BUT AS OF TODAY I WILL TAKE IT BACK AND GIVE THEM MY OTHER CAR. NOT SAFE FOR THEM TO DRIVE IT. I KNOW I HAVE A LOT OF MILES ON MINE, BUT THE ISSUE HAS BEEN KNOWN BY ACURA OFFICIALLY SINCE 2004. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. THE WARNING LIGHT ON MY DASHBOARD DISPLAY RELATED TO THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS ON. AUTO SHOP SAYS THAT IT INDICATES A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. I HAVE NOT REPAIRED IT YET AS THEY SAID IT IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. IN WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT FIXED. I AM THINKING IT MAY BE RELATED TO THE PROBLEM BEING DEALT WITH IN THE TAKATA RECALL.

I AM THE SOLE OWNER OF MY 2004 ACURA MDX TOURING PACKAGE. IT JUST TURNED 200,000 MILES BUT THIS GAS PUMPING PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR SEVERAL YEARS. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PUMP GAS, FUEL REPEATEDLY BACKS UP IN THE NECK AND TRIPS OFF THE GAS PUMP, MAKING A ROUTINE STOP AT THE GAS STATION A NIGHTMARE. YOU CAN ONLY PUMP AT THE LOWEST SPEED AND EVEN THEN THE GAS PUMP STILL TRIPS OFF BECAUSE FUEL BACKS UP TO THE TOP OF THE NECK. FROM ON LINE RESEARCH, I SUSPECT THE ISSUE TO BE A FAULTY ANTI SIPHONING DEVICE (ASD) WHICH CLOSES OFF IN THE NECK AND PREVENTS FUEL FROM PASSING, THEREBY BACKING UP AND TRIPPING OFF THE GAS PUMP. IT CAN TAKE 30 MINUTES OR MORE TO FILL THE TANK WITH GAS...THAT IS IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH PATIENCE TO STAND THERE THAT LONG. THIS IS SIMPLY NOT REASONABLE AND HONDA SHOULD RECALL THIS MODEL AND MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. WITH THE OTHER MULTIPLE COMPLAINT ENTRIES FOR THE SAME ISSUE THERE IS CLEARLY A PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE ONLY SOLUTION TO REPAIR THE ASD IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE GAS TANK, WHICH IS ROUGHLY $1000. WHILE TRYING TO FILL THE GASOLINE TANK RECENTLY, I COULD ONLY ADD .2 TO .3 GALLON AT TIME. THE GASOLINE CUTS OFF INTERMITTENTLY. I TOOK THE SUV TO MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, WHERE I WAS TOLD IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. THEY RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP RECOMMENDATION WAS AS FOLLOWS: 1) REPLACE THE FILLER NECK, 2) REPLACE THE ORVR VAPER VALVE AND 3) POSSIBLY REPLACE THE GASOLINE TANK. THIS SUV HAS BEEN MAINTAINED, LOOKS AND DRIVES GREAT. IT IS ONE OWNER, HAS 187,000 MILES AND I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP UNTIL 250,000 MILES. *TR

1. THE FRONT AND SIDE MOTOR MOUNTS ON MY '04 ACURA MDX ARE BROKEN AS WELL AS THE REAR A/C BLOWER. PROBLEM WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED BY A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO WAS REPLACING THE BRAKES FOR US. ASIDE FROM THE BRAKES, THE AUTO HAS BEEN DEALER MAINTAINED INCL. OIL CHANGES. ACURA CONFIRMED THE DIAGNOSIS AND REFUSED TO OFFER ANY "GOOD WILL" DISCOUNT FOR THE REPAIRS. 2. FRONT MOUNT BROKE FIRST, FOLLOWED BY THE SIDE (WITHIN 2-3 WKS.) DUE TO THE ADDITIONAL STRAIN PLACED ON IT BY THE FRONT MOUNT NOT FUNCTIONING. 3. NOTHING AS OF YET. STILL ATTEMPTING TO APPEAL THE DECISION REGARDING "GOOD WILL" ASSISTANCE. I AM IN CONTACT WITH THE DEALERSHIP TRYING TO RESOLVE, BUT NOT VERY OPTIMISTIC. ON A TRIP TO A CAR WASH, MY ACURA MDX GOT LOCKED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING WHICH CAUSED A BACK UP ON THE LINE AND LOSS OF BUSINESS FOR THE CAR WASH. I HAD TO HAIL A CAB TO GO HOME AND GET THE SPARE KEY AND COMPENSATED THE OWNER FOR THE LOSS. WHEN I GOT HOME AND READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL I WAS VERY SURPRISED TO FIND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE CAN BE LOCKED USING THE MASTER LOCK BUTTON IN AN OPEN PASSENGER DOOR EVEN WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE ENGINE RUNNING. IT WAS THEN THAT I REALIZED THAT THE CAR WASH ATTENDANT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE MUST HAVE LOCKED THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A FLAWED DESIGN AND CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE SAFETY PROBLEMS. I NOW HAVE TO CARRY A SPARE KEY WHEN I GO TO A CAR WASH. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE MANUFACTURER AND GOT NO RESPONSE. *AK

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FREQUENTLY BLINKS AND THE CAR OCCASIONALLY MISFIRES WHILE THE CAR IS ACCELERATING OR UNDER HEAVY ENGINE LOAD (E.G., ACCELERATING ONTO THE FREEWAY OR DRIVING ON INTERSTATE THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS). THESE CONDITIONS APPEAR TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY THE WHETHER IS COOL AND DAMP. WHEN THE VEHICLE MISFIRES, THE ENGINE HESITATES AND VARIOUS DASHBOARD WARNING INDICATORS LIGHT. THE ENGINE HESITATION AND DISTRACTION FROM THE WARNING LIGHTS MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO COMPLETE MERGER INTO TRAFFIC.

I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO FILL MY GAS TANK SEVERAL TIMES AND THE HOSE KEEPS TRIPPING OFF AFTER A COUPLE SECONDS. I CAN'T PUT MORE THAN TWO OR THREE GALLONS IN MY CAR AND IT TAKES FOREVER TO DO THAT. I OWN A 2004 ACURA MDX WITH APPROX. 58,000 MI. THE PROBLEM I'M EXPERIENCING IS WHEN EVER I TRY TO FUEL THE VEHICLE IT EITHER STOPS AUTOMATICALLY AFTER ABOUT 0.2 GAL OR IT OVERFLOWS ONTO THE BODY AND TIRES ALSO AFTER ABOUT0.2 GAL. I NOTICED IT ABOUT 6-8 WEEKS AGO, SO I STARTED GOING TO A DIFFERENT GAS STATION WHERE IT WOULD FILL WITHOUT PROBLEMS, BUT JUST IN THE LAST WEEK, IT DOES IT ALL THE TIME NO MATTER WHAT GAS STATION I GO TO. I FEEL THIS TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO THE FACT ANY FUEL SPILL IS HAZARDOUS, LET ALONE IF IT SPILLS ONTO THE REAR TIRE WHEN THE BREAKS ARE HOT ON A HOT SUMMER DAY AND I JUST GOT OUT OF A TRAFFIC JAM WHERE I WAS CONSTANTLY HAVING TO BREAK. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 ACURA MDX. WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE GASOLINE BEGAN TO SPILL OUT OF THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE FILLER NECK WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR SO THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE ORVR WALL WAS REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS LATER THE FAILURE BEGAN TO RECUR AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ORVR WALL FAILED. THE ORVR WALL WAS AGAIN REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS LATER THE FAILURE BEGAN TO RECUR. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND HE WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Multiple lights appear turn on and off indicated on dashboard, VGA, check engine light, and tire pressure system. I run a diagnostics and it says my Evap System had a code telling me to replace gas cap. I went to the auto parts store and purchased a new gas cap that is specifically for my vehicle. I turn the vehicle back on and code is still on. So I get the code erased with my diagnostic reader and the sensor turns off. But give it a few weeks and that light turns back with same code telling me to replace gas cap. I went back to return my gas cap at AutoZone. Then ordered an OEM gas cap for my vehicle and erased code and then code came back less than a month later. It can’t be two brand new parts, one was a universal part but specific to my vehicle. And second part was OEM specifically for my vehicle and from Acura/Honda parts department. So I don’t know what to do because repair said its a dumb code and just reset if I already replaced once. And don’t worry about the code indicator because the Evap system appears to be working. So it’s either an electrical issue or a glitch. I’m not comfortable with those options

I NOTICED THE LIGHTS WERE ALL STARTING TO COME ON AND THE CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED. I HAD IT TOWED TO ACURA OF MILFORD, CT. AFTER 2 DAYS AND AFTER INSTALLING A NEW BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR THEY FOUND 1 OF 6 COILS MELTED - THE IGNITION COIL - WHICH THEN RUINED A SPARK PLUG WHICH THEN RUINED MY ENGINE. THE VALUE OF THE CAR IS NOT MUCH AND I WAS ALREADY OVER $1000. WHY WOULD THIS HAPPEN AND WHY AFTER ALL MY REGULARLY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE WAS THIS NOT FOUND UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE. I HAD TOLD REPEATEDLY THAT VTM 4 AND IGNITION LAMP INDICATORS COME ON. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED AND IN FACT THE AIR BAG WAS SCHEDULED TO BE REPAIRED THE SAME DAY DUE TO A RECALL. I DISCOVERED SEVERE FRAME RUST UNDER MY REAR BUMPER COVER. LARGE CHUNKS OF RUSTED METAL ARE EASILY PULLED OFF BY HAND. I WAS MOVING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND BAM!...THE DROP OF TRANNY FLUID AND RADIATOR FLUID ON THE SPOT. WHEN I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC, THEY TOLD ME THIS WAS THE 4TH HONDA CAR THEY HAVE HAD WITH SAME PROBLEM, THEY FOUND OUT IN ALL CASES IT WAS THE PRESSURIZED HOSE CONNECTING THESE TWO IMPORTANT PARTS HAD CORRODED TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. Airbag light has been lit for a while now for my 2004 Acura MDX. I originally took the car to Courtesy Acura for them to check what causing it. They told me that the sensor should be replaced and I paid $260+. After replacing sensor, the Airbag light still lit. They told me that they need to replace the front seatbelt buckles. One buckle (PART NO: 04813-S3V-A62ZC) arrived but the other one has been backordered for a while now (almost a year) and there's no ETA from American Honda on when the part (PART NO: 04816-S3V-A61ZC) will be available. This is a safety issue since the Airbag will not deploy in case of accident. Hope you guys can help me expedite the process and escalate the issue with American Honda. Thank you soo much!

MY 2004 ACURA MDX DOES NOT BRAKE PROPERLY IN A PANIC TYPE STOP FROM ANY SPEED. APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH MAXIMUM FORCE DOES NOT GENERATE ENOUGH HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TO "LOCK THE WHEELS" AND ACTIVATE THE ABS ON DRY PAVEMENT. THE ABS WORKS WELL UNDER OTHER LOW FRICTION CIRCUMSTANCES SUCH AS RAIN, SNOW, AND ICE. THE ABS AND BRAKING SYSTEM HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND FOUND TO BE WORKING PROPERLY. PANIC BRAKING DISTANCES ARE LONG WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED TO THE FLOOR, THE CAR FEELS AS IF IT IS NOT STOPPING FAST ENOUGH ON DRY PAVEMENT. NORMAL, NON PANIC BRAKING SEEMS TO BE NORMAL. I HAVE HAD NEW BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS INSTALLED. BRAKE FLUID HAS BEEN FLUSHED TWICE AND I INSTALLED STAINLESS STEEL FLEXIBLE BRAKE LINES ALL OF WHICH MADE NO DIFFERENCE IN FULL PANIC BRAKING. OVER A FEW YEARS I HAVE HAD 3 INDEPENDENT SHOPS CHECK THE BRAKES AND ALL SAID THAT THE BRAKES WERE NORMAL. IN APRIL 2013, I HAD THE ACURA DEALER EVALUATE THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND WAS TOLD "NORMAL, THIS IS JUST HOW THEY BRAKE". TO DO A COMPARISON, I TEST DROVE A USED 05 MDX AT THE HONDA DEALER AND IT BRAKED EXACTLY THE SAME AS MY 04: NO ABILITY TO ACTIVATE THE ABS IN A FULL PANIC STOP FROM ANY SPEED ON DRY PAVEMENT. RECENTLY, HONDA RECALLED 250,000 VEHICLES FOR A DEFECTIVE BRAKE BOOSTER AND THE 01-06 MDX IS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL. THIS RECALL WAS BASED ON HONDA'S AUDIT OF WARRANTY CLAIMS. CARS LIKE MY MDX ARE WELL BEYOND THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND WOULD NEVER BE FOUND BASED ON ANY WARRANTY CLAIM HISTORY. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT MY 04 MDX (AND LIKELY OTHER MDX VEHICLES) HAS A DEFECTIVE BRAKE BOOSTER RESULTING IN POOR BRAKING PERFORMANCE AND CREATES A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. I HAD NOTICED A SHUDDERING AT 1200-1400 RPM. DEALER SAID IT WAS LIKELY THE TORQUE CONVERTER. RECOMMENDED NOT DOING ANYTHING AT THIS TIME. IN THE PAST MONTH, I'VE HAD TWO OCCASIONS WHILE IN DRIVE FROM A STOP, WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS THE CAR DID NOT MOVE; THE ENGINE JUST REVVED. THE FIRST TIME I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, SHUT OFF THE CAR. I HAVE A 2004 ACURA MDX. THERE ARE ABOUT 77,000 MILES ON IT. VSA, VTM-4, ABS, AND AIRBAG LIGHTS KEEP FLASHING. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON THE CAPITAL BELTWAY WHEN MY LOW TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR CAME ON AND WITHIN MINUTES, MY TIRE WAS COMPLETELY FLAT. I EXPERIENCED A TERRIFYING EVENT OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION. I WAS PULLING INTO A CHURCH PARKING LOT YESTERDAY MORNING AND HAD ALMOST COME TO A FULL STOP WHEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE CAR TOOK OFF (A WITNESS SAID THE HORN BEEPED AS IT HAPPENED; I DON'T REMEMBER, I WAS SO BUSY TRYING TO CONTROL THE CAR AND THE ENGINE WAS LOUD, LIKE A TEEN-AGER IN A DRAG RACE). I KEPT BRAKING AND TURNED THE WHEEL SHARPLY TO AVOID HITTING THE FENCE IN FRONT OF ME BUT COULDN'T GET IT TO STOP. IT WAS LIKE IT WAS DEMON-POSSESSED. I was in a parking mode and was leaving the parking lot. I reversed my car lo leave, and the car went out of control and was not until it crashed on two other parked cars that came to a stop. Then, After reversing my car, when trying to put it into drive, it would not move. When I tried to turn it off, the engine (re) started again and it worked so I could clear the path for other cars and wait until the police came. I had major maintenance at Acura Hopkins 2 and 3 years ago, I had a new steering pump and hoses changed 5 months ago and new front and rear brakes 3 months ago. Many people who are familiar with cars tell me that it was probably the rings. I don't know it may be the transmission? There was a police report as there were two other cars involved and both with severe damages. State Farm considered my car totaled despite the large amount of money spent to bring this car to almost new condition.

EVENTUALLY I TOOK MY MDX TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSIS. DISAPPOINTINGLY SIMILAR TO MANY ACCOUNTS I READ ON THE INTERNET, AND DESPITE MY DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM, THE ACURA DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, FURTHER NOTING ALL 19 ITEMS ON THEIR MULTI-POINT INSPECTION REPORT AS "CHECKED AND OK", INCLUDING THE TRANSMISSION. SOON THEREAFTER, THE DRIVE TRAIN COMPLETELY FROZE UP AS I DISCOVERED AFTER STARTING THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY (THANKFULLY, NOT WHILE DRIVING THE CAR). DESPITE USING THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON (COINCIDENTALLY -?- THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL FOR WHICH I HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM ACURA), THE CAR REMAINS IMMOBILE BECAUSE I AM UNABLE TO GET THE CAR OUT OF PARK AND PUT IT INTO GEAR TO RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS. MY LOCAL ACURA DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE TO MY NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND CALLS ATTEMPTING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. REPRODUCIBLY AT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTING SPEEDS BETWEEN 20-25MPH, 30-35MPH AND 40-45MPH THERE IS AN AUDIBLE AND PALPABLE SHUDDER AS THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES PRIOR TO SHIFTING. HAVE BROUGHT VEHICLE TO ACURA DEALER 3 TIMES OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS, EVERY TIME STATING THE SAME COMPLAINT, AND EVERY TIME REFERENCING A CONVINCING MULTITUDE OF ACURA MDX OWNERS NOTING A SIMILAR PROBLEM. EVERY TIME ACURA SERVICE STATES THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE LAST TIME I EVEN DROVE THE CAR WITH THEIR CHIEF MECHANIC, WHO VERIFIED THE PROBLEM AND STATED IT MUST BE THE TORQUE CONVERTER, BUT ACURA ONLY PERFORMED AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND RESET THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER SETTINGS THAT THEY CHARGED ME FOR, AND NEITHER SOLVED THE PROBLEM. ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65 MPH WHEN THE ACCELERATION SUDDENLY FROZE UP, RPMS SHOT UP TO 4000 -5000, THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AND I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY TO AVOID BEING CRASHED INTO BY OTHER CARS. AFTER I PULLED OVER, I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, THEN RE-STARTED, SO I RESUMED DRIVING BUT AFTER DRIVING TWO MILES MY CAR DID THE SAME THING ONCE IT HIT 2500 RPMS. AGAIN I PULLED OVER. I RESTARTED MY CAR AGAIN AND SLOWLY DROVE MY CAR HOME. THE NEXT DAY, I CALLED AN ACURA DEALERSHIP, EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO A SERVICE PROVIDER. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DIAGNOSIS OVER THE PHONE AND SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW ABOUT A RELEVANT RECALL. I THEN HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A NEARBY REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT REVERSE OR ACCELERATE. THE SERVICE MAN SAID HE THINKS THE TRANSMISSION IS BROKEN. I'M NOW READING HOW THIS IS VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE '04 MDX. MY MOTHER CALLED ACURA TO SAY THAT I HAVE READ THAT THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH '04 MDXS BUT WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT HELP AND WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS MAKE/MODEL HAVING ISSUES WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL TORQUE CONVERTER. THE WOMAN SHE SPOKE WITH WAS VERY RUDE AND VERY DISMISSIVE. SAID MY CAR WAS TOO OLD FOR ACURA TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY MECHANICAL ISSUES AND THAT I HAD NEVER HAD THE CAR SERVICED (WHICH I HAVE.) SHE WAS VERY CONDESCENDING IN HER SPEECH TO MY MOTHER DESPITE THE FACT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN COMMON PROBLEM AND WHICH ALMOST KILLED ME. SINCE ABOUT FEBRUARY 2010 THE VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST SYSTEM WILL RANDOMLY ACTIVATE DURING PERIODS OF PROLONGED HIGHWAY DRIVING. THIS CONDITION USUALLY HAPPENS ON DRY PAVEMENT AND WITHOUT WARNING. IT FEELS LIKE ONLY THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT BRAKE IS APPLIED AND THE VEHICLE SWERVES TO THE RIGHT UNCONTROLLABLY. THE CONDITION HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO CRASH MULTIPLE TIMES AND IS VERY FRIGHTENING. I HAVE HAD THE ACURA DEALER TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM MANY TIMES WITH NO RESULTS. THE MOST RECENT TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS EARLY DECEMBER 2013. I IMMEDIATELY DROPPED THE VEHICLE OFF AT AN ACURA DEALER AND THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULTY LATERAL ACCELERATION SENSOR. UNFORTUNATELY THIS PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME AND IS ON INDEFINITE BACKORDER. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS NEARLY CAUSED HARM TO MYSELF AND OTHER VEHICLES DUE TO MY OUT OF CONTROL VEHICLE. I WAS PULLING INTO DRIVE WAY WHEN I SHUT OFF TRUCK TOOK KEYS OUT, SHUT DOOR, AS GARAGE DOOR WAS OPENING. CAR STARTED ROLLING BACK... I OPENED DOOR TRIED TO PRESS ON EMERG. WAS DRIVING TOWARDS RAPID CITY ON I -90 W FROM ST PAUL MINNESOTTA. AT AROUND 10.30 AM THE VEHICLE ACURA MDX 04 MODEL WHILE GETTING PAST A RV THE RV STARTED SWAYING AND THE LEFT REAR WHEEL OF THE MDX WAS ON THE LEFT SHOULDER. WHILE GETTING BACK TO THE ROAD THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL AND WNET ACROSS THE ROAD AND HIT A FENCE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CAME TO A STOP. THIS HAPPENED AT MILE MARKER 159 IN SOUTH DAKOTA. AIR BAGS WERE DEPLOYED. ONCE WE GOT OFF THE VEHICLE WE OBSERVED THAT THE LEFT REAR TIRE HAD SLIPPED OFF THE RIM. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH VSA BUT IT DID NOT SEEM TO HELP AS THE VEHICLE WAS UNCONTROLLABLE . THE SPEED AT THE TIME WAS BETWEEN 65 AND 70 MPH.
