TAKATA RECALL- WE RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THE FAYETTEVILLE ACURA DEALERSHIP IN MARCH 2016 INFORMING US OF THE RECALL. WE WERE TOLD THE AIRBAGS IN OUR 2009 ACURA TL SHOULD BE REPLACED IN THE EARLY PORTION OF THE SUMMER 2016. IN JULY 2016 WE HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY UPDATED INFO ON THE RECALL/REPLACEMENT OF OUR AIRBAGS. I CONTACTED FAYETTEVILLE ACURA AND THEY INFORMED US THE PARTS WERE TAKING LONGER TO COME INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPLACEMENT. IN OCTOBER 2016 WE STILL HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED TO HAVE OUR AIRBAG REPLACED. AS OF JANUARY 20, 2017, WE STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY WORD FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON WHEN OUR AIRBAG WOULD BE REPLACED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 ACURA TL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED INDEPENDENTLY AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A FENCE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HAND AND FACE INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

HOOD FALLS SUDDENLY WHEN OPEN. STRUTS HAVE FAILED TO HOLD THE HOOD OPEN SECURELY. I HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE DEALER ( ACURA OF SANTA MONICA CALIFORNIA) AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO HOT WEATHER IN LOS ANGELES. BECAUSE OF THE REFLECTIVE MATERIAL USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE DASH LOWER DASH COMPONENTS ON THE FAR LEFT AND FAR RIGHT SIDE OF THE DASH, THERE IS A BLIND SPOT CREATED BY SUN GLARE INTO THE LEFT AND RIGHT MIRRORS FROM THE REFECTION OFF THE LOWER LEFT AND RIGHT DASHBOARD. THE REFLECTION AND GLARE IS SO STRONG, IT COMPLETELY ELIMINATES AN IMAGE IN THE MIRROR, WHEN THE SUN IS BEHIND YOU, LOW IN THE SKY. THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT CREATED AN ACCIDENT, BUT IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE ACCIDENTS. THE GUNMETAL TRIM INSERTED INTO THE LEFT AND RIGHT LOWER SIDES OF THE DASH CREATE A BLINDING GLARE IN THE REAR VIEW MIRRORS ON SUNNY DAYS. THE GLARE IS SO BAD, IT COVERS NEARLY ALL OF THE SURFACE OF THE LEFT HAND MIRROR, SO WHEN CHANGING LANES FROM RIGHT TO LEFT, THE DRIVER WILL MISS SEEING A CAR IN THE LEFT LANE BECAUSE OF THE GLARE. IT IS EVEN MORE PRONOUNCED FOR A CAR THAT MAY BE IN THE BLIND SPOT. SAME IS TRUE, BUT NOT AS BAD, AS THE RIGHT LANE. GROWLING AND VIBRATION FROM THE TRANSMISSION WHEN GOING 35-40 MPH. WAS TOLD IT'S THE TORQUE CONVERTER AGAIN. HAVE HAD IT REPLACED TWICE NOW, GOT IT BACK FROM THE DEALER LAST NIGHT AND IT'S DOING IT AGAIN. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME I HAVE HAD THIS CAR TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME ISSUE SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW (REPLACED TORQUE CONVERTER TWICE AND UPDATED SOFTWARE TWICE.) IT'S HAPPENING LIKE CLOCK WORK - EVERY 2 YEARS THE ISSUE RESURFACES.

Intermitten problem with brakes becoming soft/spongy. I have taken my vehicle to Hondaa and a few local shops no one could identify the issue but confirmed brakes rotors were good and no leakes. After searching online I found many people experiencing the same issue which seems to be a known issue Acura is aware of....there seems to be a problem with the VSA Modular failing which is leaking air into the brake line and causing spongy brakes. This is sooooo dangerous as it happens out of no where Im driving normal and suddenly it feels like I have no brakes. The spongy brakes cause a lag in stopping and if for some reason I have to suddenly stop I would be unable to...this symptom last sometimes minutes, hours, and days with no reason and then brakes return to normal. Im afraid to drive my vehicle as this is dangerius and a safety issue. Acura should issue a recall as this is putting lives in danger.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 ACURA TL. WHILE DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER A CURB AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND THE ENGINE REVVED AND DID NOT STOP UNTIL HELP ARRIVED. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED AND TOWED BY AAA. THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.

I'VE HAD MY VEHICLE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD DUE TO A MECHANICAL RECALL THAT WENT UNDIAGNOSED.( OVER OIL CONSUMPTION RECALL, IN WHICH I WAS COMPLETELY UNAWARE UNTIL FINALLY RECEIVING THE LETTER PRODIVIDED) I WAS DRIVING OFF OF PLEASANT STREET IN HANSON MA, CROSSING ONTO THE MAIN ROAD WHEN MY VEHICLE ENGINE JUST SHUT DOWN AND FROZE THE STEERING WHEEL. ALSO A POLICE OFFICER WAS ON THE SCENE TO HELP ME SAFELY OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE BEEN CALLING ACURA OF HONDA AND THEY HAVE BEEN RUNNING ME IN CIRCLES WITH NUMEROUS PEOPLE ON THE PHONE AND DENIED THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO COVER THIS PROBLEM, AND THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. WHICH THE CLAIM SAFETY IS FIRST AND FOR THE CLIENT, BUT THEY HAVE FAILED TO DELIVER ON THEIR OWN WORDS IN THE SAFETY RECALL. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY DOWN IN HOPES THAT THEY SUPPLY A REPAIR SINCE THEY HAVE BEEN MUCH AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. THANK YOU

MY 2009 ACURA TL STALLS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I CAN BE PULLING OUT FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT, PULLING OFF AFTER PAUSING AT A STOP SIGN, CHANGING GEARS FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE, OR JUST SIMPLY DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OR A CITY STREET. MY CAR CAN HAVE A FULL TANK OF GAS OR LESS THAN HALF OF A TANK OF GAS, IT CAN BE COLD OR HOT OUTSIDE, IT CAN BE THE FIRST TIME I MOVE MY CAR FOR THE DAY OR THE TENTH TIME, ETC. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO PINPOINT THE EXACT ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE. I AM GROWING MORE AND MORE CONCERNED THAT THIS STALLING COULD PLACE ME IN IMMINENT DANGER BUT UNEXPECTEDLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH MY VEHICLE IS REAR-ENDED. PRAYERFULLY, THIS DOESN'T OCCUR ON THE HIGHWAY (IN WHICH I DRIVE TO WORK DAILY!) IN WHICH SPEEDS COULD EXCEED 80-MPH. I INITIALLY NOTICED THE PROBLEM IN LATE JANUARY/FEBRUARY. I JUST ASSUMED THAT IT WAS IN RELATION TO THE COLD WEATHER. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO ACURA AT OXMOOR TWICE IN RELATION TO THIS PROBLEM - RESULTING IN ALMOST $700 WORTH OF EXPENSES. THEY COMPLETED A DIAGNOSTICS AND ENDED UP 1. REPLACING THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR; 2. PERFORMING TRANSMISSION SERVICE; AND PERFORMING FUEL INDUCTION SERVICE. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND I AM NOT SURE HOW TO PROCEED. BASED ON MY REVIEW OF ACURA BLOGS ON THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS THAT THE PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY PREVALENT AMONGST OTHER ACURA TL OWNERS AND MIGHT BE RELATED TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER. THE PROBLEM COULD BE RELATED TO ACURA TSB #B16033. MY CAR HAS MORE THAN 120K MILES ON IT. BUT CONSIDERING THE MANUFACTURER, COST, AND CONTINUED PROPER MAINTENANCE (WHICH HAS ONLY BEEN PERFORMED AT ACURA OF OXMOOR), I WOULD EXPECT MY CAR TO LAST AT LEAST 10 YEARS WITHOUT MAJOR TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE PROBLEMS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 ACURA TL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED MORE THAN TWICE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE ALTERNATOR ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED THREE TIMES AND THE BATTERY HAD BEEN REPLACED MORE THAN FIVE TIMES. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT ALSO TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR ASSEMBY AND BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE PARTS, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.

THE LOWER PART OF THE DASHBOARD, AT MID LEVEL ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES NEXT TO THE VENT OPENINGS, IS FINISHED WITH A REFLECTIVE MATERIAL THAT CAUSES SEVERE SIDE MIRROR GLARE WHEN DRIVING WITH SUNLIGHT COMING FROM THE REAR. THE GLARE IS SO BAD, THAT IT CREATES A BLIND SPOT IN THE SIDE VIEW MIRROR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE GLARE ALMOST COMPLETELY COVERS THE ENTIRE SURFACE OF THE MIRROR, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE WHATEVER MIGHT BE IN THE NEXT LANE OR BEHIND. IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, IF YOU COME ACROSS SOMETHING IN THE ROAD AND MUST CHANGE LANES, IF YOU LOOK INTO THE MIRROR, YOU CAN'T SEE WHAT IS IN THE LANE NEXT TO YOU BECAUSE OF THE GLARE. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER I PURCHASED MY BRAND NEW ACURA TL, I NOTICED THAT MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW RATTLES LOUDLY WHEN I SHUT THE DOOR, ESPECIALLY WHEN MY WINDOW IS ROLLED DOWN PART WAY. EACH DAY THE RATTLE GETS WORSE AND NOW THE WINDOW RATTLES WHEN I DRIVE ON BUMPY ROADS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FIXED. THE RATTLING NOISE IS SO LOUD THAT I AM CONCERNED THAT THE WINDOW WILL BREAK AND WILL CAUSE BODILY HARM. THE SERVICE ADVISOR INSISTED THAT THERE WASN'T A PROBLEM AND REFUSED TO TAKE ANY SORT OF ACTION. HE REFUSED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME BECAUSE HE SAID THERE'S NOTHING HE COULD DO ABOUT IT, AND REASSURED ME THAT THIS IS JUST THE WAY THE CAR IS DESIGNED. AFTER ARGUING BACK AND FORTH, THEY FINALLY AGREED TO INSPECT MY CAR. THE SERVICE ADVISOR INSPECTED MY VEHICLE WINDOW AND INSPECTED ANOTHER VEHICLE (SAME MAKE AND MODEL) TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE. HE ADAMANTLY DENIED THAT THERE WAS A DIFFERENCE IN THE VEHICLES. I INSPECTED IT AND NOTICED THAT MY VEHICLE IS MAKING A CONSIDERABLY NOISIER RATTLE. THERE WAS CLEARLY A DIFFERENCE. THE SERVICE ADVISOR THEN GRABBED ANOTHER GENTLEMAN THAT WORKS DIRECTLY FOR THE ACURA CORPORATION AS THEIR ZONE MANAGER. HE INSPECTED BOTH VEHICLES AND OF COURSE HE LIED AND CONSPIRED WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR TO TELL ME THAT THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH MY WINDOW. BOTH GENTLEMEN EVEN QUESTIONED MY CONCERN FOR A RATTLING WINDOW. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS COULD CAUSE BODILY INJURY IF THE WINDOW BREAKS OR IF I WERE TO GET INTO AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT AND THE WINDOW IS NOT SUPPORTED PROPERLY. IT WAS APPARENT BOTH OF THEM DID NOT WANT TO FIX MY VEHICLE. I AM UNCERTAIN OF THE REASONING BEHIND THEIR MOTIVE, POSSIBLY THEY DID NOT WANT INCUR FINANCIAL LOSS, SINCE MY VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY AND ANY COST ASSOCIATED TO THE REPAIR WOULD COME FROM EITHER THE ACURA CORPORATION OR THE DEALERSHIP. WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 ACURA TL WITH 10,000 MILES ON IT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. BEFORE I COULD STOP THE CAR I SIDESWIPED A GUARDRAIL CAUSING MINOR COSMETIC DAMAGE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO DEVAN ACURA IN NORWALK CT. THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG SO THE ENGINEERS FROM HONDA WERE CALLED. THEY DISASSEMBLED THE STEERING SYSTEM PART BY PART. THE PARTS WERE SENT OUT TO CALIFORNIA TO THE HONDA ENGINEERS. AFTER "CAREFUL INSPECTION" THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE PARTS. THEY ARE SAYING THE STEERING WAS DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT. THAT IS EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED!! THEY ARE TRYING TO COVER UP A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE! I ASKED THEM TO REPLACE THE PARTS AND TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR BUT THEY REFUSED. INSTEAD THEY GAVE ME A BILL FOR $3500.00 AMERICAN HONDA CORPORATION IS NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND LETTING THE CUSTOMERS DOWN. I SUGGEST THINKING TWICE ABOUT BUYING A HONDA OR ACURA BECAUSE THIS IS THE WAY YOU WILL BE TREATED IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM! SO MUCH FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING MY NEW 2009 ACURA TL THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I WAS DRIVING IN THE SNOW IN CT AT ABOUT 6:00 PM ON FEB 17TH. I WAS TRAVELING DOWN A HILL IN MY HOMETOWN THAT I HAVE DRIVEN ON LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF TIMES. I KNOW THE HILL IS FAIRLY STEEP SO I WAS GOING VERY SLOW (ABOUT 10 MPH) AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL THE ROAD CURVES TO THE LEFT. AS I APPROACHED THE TURN MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IN PLACE AND I SLID INTO THE GUARDRAIL DOING ONLY MINOR COSMETIC DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT FROM BUMPER AND FENDER. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED FROM THE SCENE BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STILL LOCKED SOLID. THE ACURA DEALER IN NORWALK CT HAS HAD THE CAR ON A LIFT FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS AND STILL DOES NOT KNOW WHY THAT HAPPENED. NEEDLES TO SAY I DON'T WANT THE CAR BACK! *TR

The Acura key has a hinge on it with a release button and a spring where the keys open when the button is pressed and the key locks in place. The locking mechanism on the hinge failed. This means that when enough items are on a keychain on the key the weight will rotate the keys into a lever and pull the car into the off position on its own while driving on the road. My car has turned off without warning due to the key hinge lock failure on the highway ant speed and well as on bumpy roads and at stoplights.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 ACURA TL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR VIEW CAMERA WAS BLURRY, WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO SEE WHILE BACKING OUT. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO EXPLAIN THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE, BUT WANTED TO REPLACE IT AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000. ADDITIONALLY. THE FRONT SEAT HEADRESTS (AKA HEAD RESTRAINTS) CAUSE SEVERE NECK PAIN NO MATTER HOW THE SEATS ARE ADJUSTED. THIS PAIN IS CAUSED BY THE FORWARD TILT TO THE HEADREST THAT CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. THE TILT IN THE HEADREST CAUSES THE DRIVER'S HEAD TO BE PUSHED FORWARD IN A DOWNWARD-LOOKING ANGLE. THIS IS BOTH PAINFULLY UNCOMFORTABLE (I NOW SUFFER FROM CHRONIC SEVERE NECK PAIN) AND DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT: 1) IS PAINFULLY DISTRACTING, 2) CAUSES THE DRIVER TO BE DISTRACTED WHEN TRYING (IN VAIN) TO ADJUST SEAT AND DRIVING POSITION TO UNSUCCESSFULLY FIND A PAIN-FREE SEATING POSITION; 3) FORCES THE DRIVER TO EITHER RECLINE THE SEAT TOO FAR BACK OR TO HAVE TO DRIVE WITH EYES TILTED UNNATURALLY UPWARD (AS IF LOOKING OVER ONE'S GLASSES) WHILE THE HEAD IS PUSHED FORWARD AND DOWNWARD. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MY PROBLEM IS THAT I DO NOT REALIZE THAT THESE ARE NOT HEAD RESTS BUT ARE HEAD RESTRAINTS AND THAT I SHOULD ENDURE CHRONIC NECK PAIN AND INJURY IN ORDER TO AVOID WHIPLASH IN A REAR END COLLISION. I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND IN ANOTHER CAR WITH "STANDARD" HEADRESTS AND SUFFERED NO INJURY; THE COLLISION WAS SO SEVERE (A PICKUP TRUCK HIT MY 1982 TOYOTA COROLLA STATION WAGON IN 1994) THAT THE FRONT SEAT BACKS WERE FLATTENED (I.E., WERE SACRIFICED TO ABSORB THE ENERGY). THE PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THE 2009 ACURA TL IS EXTREMELY RIDICULOUS AND PAINFUL. IN MY 2007 ACURA TL AND I COULD DRIVE LONG DISTANCES WITHOUT PAIN. IN THE 2009 TL WITH THESE RIDICULOUSLY-DESIGNED HEADRESTS, I HAVE NECK PAIN DURING MY 15-MINUTE COMMUTE TO WORK AND IT CONTINUES WHEN I'M NOT DRIVING. THIS HEADREST DESIGN IS PRODUCING CUMULATIVE INJURY THAT IS CAUSING DAMAGE TO MY NECK AND CERVICAL SPINE. THE EXCUSE THAT ACURA USES IS THAT THIS DESIGN IS MANDATED TO REDUCE WHIPLASH INJURIES.
