The passenger airbag light started coming on and going off intermittently. After several weeks of this, it was on every time the car is driven. Testing by an ASE certified mechanic revealed that the permanent light results in no front seat airbags. The failed part is the seat presence sensor. The part is - and hasn't been for quite a while - manufactured by GM. Aftermarket parts are costly and the installation cost is in the hundreds of dollars. Research indicates that this is a well-known and long reported issue. Why not a recall years ago? Other than brakes and steering, could there be any more unsafe components than those affecting airbags? The only remedy other than continuously replacing the faulty part, is a bypass module. If it functions correctly, the airbag will deploy regardless of passenger weight. This puts any child or underweight rider in danger. And, of course, considering the expense, many owners will do nothing with possibly grave consequences. I think you "dropped the ball" big time on this one!

The air bag light on the dashboard is on all the time.It is available for inspection at any time. I do not know if the bag will go off at any time or does it mean that it won't go off on impact. I am nervous about having someone for a passenger. I have informed the dealership of the problem and they did confirmed the problem, it has not been inspected by the manufacturer or others. The light came on the day after I bought the car from the dealership and it has been on every cents.

ABOU 50,XXX MILES THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT IN THE DASH BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. IT WOULD OCCUR ONCE A MONTH OR SO. THE DEALER WANTED $1200 TO REPLACE THE AB CONTROL MODULE. FOR THE NEXT 46,XXX MILES IT HAS BEEN THAT WAY UNTIL A FEW DAYS AGO. NOW THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON CONTINUALLY, MEANING THE AIRBAGS ARE INOPERATIVE. SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME!

THE AIR BAG MALFUNCTION WARNING LIGHT BLINKS AND THEN REMAINS ON WHEN THE IGNITION IS TURNED ON AND WHEN DRIVING REGARDLESS OF SPEED. THIS CONDITION HAS RESULTED IN THE REPLACING OF THE RELEVANT PART TWICE SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2009 ONCE UNDER WARRANTY AND ONCE OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS RECURRING PROBLEM COMPROMISES THE OPERATION OF THE AIR BAGS IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THE AIR BAGS IN THIS VEHICLE HAVE NEVER BEEN DEPLOYED SINCE IT HAS BEEN ACCIDENT FREE SINCE PURCHASED NEW.

MY 2009 LACROSSE WILL INTERMITTENTLY DISPLAY THE AIR BAG INDICATOR. I NOTICED THIS WHILE DRIVING THE CAR AROUND TOWN AND THERE IS NO PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. IT WILL EITHER STAY ON FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THEN DISAPPEAR OR WILL JUST BE ON FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY STATED IT WAS A SENSOR MODULE AND WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $1300 TO REPLACE. AS OF THIS DATE, I HAVE NOT HAD IT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 24,000 MILES. I CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE MIGHT BE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE AND THERE WERE NONE. BUT IN CHECKING ONLINE, THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH MANY BUICKS ESPECIALLY THE 2008. TO ME THIS APPEARS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED.

IN JANUARY OF 2015 THE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK SYSTEM BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION. THE REMOTE FIRST FAILED TO CONTROL THE RIGHT REAR DOOR. THEN THE MALFUNCTION SPREAD TO THE LEFT FRONT DOOR LOCK. THE SITUATION BECAME WORSE UNTIL THE ENTIRE LOCKING SYSTEM COULD ONLY BE CONTROLLED MANUALLY. EVEN THEN THE PHYSICAL KEY CONTROL FREQUENTLY MALFUNCTIONED. SAFETY HAZARDS WERE CREATED INCLUDING LOCKING THE KEYS INSIDE AN UNOCCUPIED RUNNING VEHILE, BEING TOTALLY UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE, AND GENERALLY INCONSISTENT ABILITY TOO MAINTAIN CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLES LOCKING STATUS. APPROXIMATELY $1,000 DOLLARS HAVE BEEN SPENT USING GENUINE GMC PARTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT IS STILL UNSTABLE AND IN A DETERIORATED CONDITION.

I WAS DRIVING ON PARKWAY IN NASSAU COUNTY AT 11:30 AM ON 7/2/15 ON A SUNNY DAY AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED GOING UP AND DOWN SLOWLY, I HAD NOT PUT THEM ON. WHILE DRIVING I TRIED TO STOP THE WIPERS TO NO AVAIL. THE COMPUTER ON DASHBOARD STATED 'OPEN HOOD' BUT AS I WAS DRIVING THE HOOD WAS DEFINITELY NOT OPEN. I LATER REALIZED THE COMPUTER WAS SAYING... OPEN THE HOOD. A FEW MOMENTS LATER I SAW SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE HOOD AND THE COMPUTER SAID SOMETHING LIKE 'SYSTEM FAILURE'. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TOOK THE KEYS. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE STILL MOVING EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS OFF AND KEYS WERE OUT OF THE IGNITION. A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER FROM LOCAL AREA SAW MY CAR, PULLED OVER, OPENED THE HOOD AND USED AN EXTINGUISHER ON THE FUSE BOX WHICH WAS SMOKING BADLY ALTHOUGH WE DIDN'T SEE FLAMES. HE DISCONNECTED THE CABLES ON THE FUSE BOX, LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT AND NY STATE TROOPER ARRIVED. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO MY MECHANICS GARAGE. WE HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THE FUSE BOX WAS DISTROYED WITH MOST DAMAGE TO THE HDM RELAY AS POSITION #35 IS SEVERELY DAMAGED. I BELIEVE THIS IS ALSO NEXT TO THE WINDSHIELD WIPER RELAY WHICH IS WHY THEY WENT ON. ALSO 3 MAJOR WIRING HARNESSES WERE MELTED AND DESTROYED. WE DON'T KNOW IF THE COMPUTER OR ANY OTHER FEATURE UNDER THE HOOD IS AFFECTED AT THIS TIME. THE DAMAGE AT THIS POINT IS ESTIMATED TO BE $4,000 IN PARTS AND LABOR NOT INCLUDING POSSIBLE COMPUTER DAMAGE. I HAVE SEEN ON THE INTERNET THAT MY CAR IS INCLUDED IN RECALL N140291 LOSS OF LOW BEAM HDM DATED 11/25/14 BUT THAT GM 'WILL' PROVIDE A PLAN FOR REMEDYING THE DEFECT. ALSO ON THE INTERNET IS HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY PEOPLE THAT THEY HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH FIRE STARTING IN THE FUSE BOX IN HDM POSITION #35. DRIVING HOME AT 11PM IN THE DARK AND LOST HEADLIGHTS COMPLETELY FIRST TIME IN SEPT 2014 THEN AGAIN IN OCTOBER 2014 AND MOST RECENTLY 3 TIMES IN MAY 2015 ALL 3 TIMES I WAS DRIVING 55 MPH IN THE DARK AND LAST ONE WAS IN POURING RAIN.. LUCKILY THERE WERE STREET LIGHTS EACH TIME ..I PULLED OVER QUICKLY ,BLINDLY AS THE DASH LIGHTS WENT OUT, TOO, SO I COULDN'T SEE WHERE THE 4 WAY FLASHERS WERE TO TURN THEM ON ..I GOT OUT AND LOOKED GOT BACK IN SHUT CAR OFF STARTED IT BACK UP AND THE HEADLIGHTS CAME BACK ON ..THE MOST RECENT TIME AND THE FIRST TIME I HAD NO HIGH BEAMS EITHER ..LITERALLY NO LIGHTS FOR 30 SECONDS TO 3 MINUTES .. HAD THERE BEEN TRAFFIC I MAY HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR IF NOT FOR STREETLIGHT IN POURING RAIN I WOULD HAVE ENDED UP IN A DITCH OR WORSE .. THE OWNER HAD BEEN SMELLING A BAD ODOR WHEN SHE ARRIVED AT HER DESTINATION IN A MALL PARKING LOT. THE ODOR DID NOT FADE WHEN THE VEHICLE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND SUBSEQUENTLY OPENED THE HOOD. BLACK SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM THE FUSE BLOCK. UPON REMOVING THE COVER TO THE FUSE BLOCK, THE OWNER OBSERVED A SMALL FIRE WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE WIRING HARNESS. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER EXAMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT ENGINEERING CONSULTANT WHO IDENTIFIED THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE. THE ORIGIN WAS PLACED AT THE # 35 POSITION IN THE FUSE BLOCK WHICH WAS OCCUPIED BY THE HDM MODULE. IT WAS LATER LEARNED FROM THE OWNER THAT AN UNEXPLAINED HEADLIGHT OUTAGE HAD OCCURRED SOMETIME PRIOR TO THE FIRE AND THAT TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE CAUSED THE HEADLIGHTS TO COME ON AGAIN. THE EVENT NEVER OCCURRED AGAIN. IT WAS FURTHER DETERMINED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INSTANCES OF HIGHLIGHT FAILURE THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO NHTSA AND ARE AVAILABLE IN THE "COMPLAINTS" SECTION OF A SEARCH FOR RECALLS OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR

THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE, AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE $1300 TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE. I'VE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING THIS SAME ITEM. I'VE ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS. IT INITIALLY STARTED WITH THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR, AND HAS NOW PROGRESSED TO ALL THE DOORS. THE PRICE I WAS GIVEN TO REPAIR THIS WAS $1600. AGAIN, I'VE SEEN NUMEROUS ONLINE COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THIS ITEM. THIS IS MY 3RD BUICK, AND I DO NOT INTEND TO BUY ANOTHER ONE. IT SEEMS ONCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRES, SEVERAL COSTLY REPAIRS ARE INCURRED.

I HAVE REPLACED 1000.00S OF DOLLARS TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND NOTHING CHANGES. I HAVE REPLACED THE WHEEL HUBS, IGNITION MODULE, THE 700.00 PART FOR THE ECBM, NOTHING CHANGES, I BELIEVE ITS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT NO ONE HAS BEEN TO FIND. ABS STABLILITY TRACTION LIGHTS COME ON AND THE CAR DIES I HAVE NO POWER STEERING OR BREAKING POWER AND MY CAR IS STILL MOVING. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH OUR 2009 BUICK LACROSSE. IT FIRST APPEARED AS A BAD BATTERY WHICH WAS REPLACED. USING THE IN-CAR DIGITAL READOUT, WE BEGAN TO SEE STRANGE VOLTAGE READINGS IN THE CAR. THE VOLTAGE WOULD SOME TIMES READ AS LOW AS 12.6 VOLTS AND THEN WOULD START A STEADY CLIMB UP TO 14.4 VOLTS. IT MIGHT STAY THAT WAY FOR HOURS OR MIGHT SLOWLY DROP TO THE LOW LEVEL. AT THE LOW LEVEL, WE HAVE NOTICED THAT MULTIPLE ITEMS LIKE THE SPEED CONTROL AND THE AIR CONDITIONING WOULD NOT WORK UNTIL THE VOLTAGE WAS AT THE HIGH LEVEL. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I DON'T RECALL THE MESSAGE I ACTUALLY GOT; BUT I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED AN EMISSION CONTROL ITEM WHICH SEEMED TO DO THE TRICK FOR AWHILE. EVENTUALLY, AS I WAS DRIVING ALONG SOME TIME LATER, THE MESSAGE "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" CAME UP; AND I COULD FEEL THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY START TO DRAG. IN ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO A MINUTE, "TRACTION CONTROL OFF" OR SOMETHING SIMILAR COMES UP. I STOPPED TO LOOK AT THE MANUAL WHICH SAID TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, WAIT A FEW MINUTES, THEN START THE CAR AND THIS WOULD CLEAR THE CODE SO THAT THE CAR WOULD RUN NORMALLY. I DID THIS, AND I SAW THAT THE CAR WAS OPERATING MORE NORMALLY BUT THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" STAYED ON. AFTER SEVERAL STOPS AND STARTS, THE LIGHT WENT OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT. ON 6/3, I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT SEEMED TO BE HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. THE ONLY THING THEY COULD FIND THAT MIGHT BE CAUSING IT DID NOT SEEM TO BE THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY WORKED ON THE X101 CONNECTOR AND TEST DROVE IT 16 MILES W/O A PROBLEM. TWO DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING TO WORK (AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 20 MIN.), THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. ANOTHER GARAGE WHERE I HAD MY OIL CHANGED RAN THE CODES AND FOUND THAT P1125 - FUEL & AIR METERING AND P2138 THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION WERE LISTED. BECAUSE I HAD JUST RECENTLY LEARNED THAT SOMEONE FROM MY COMMUNITY WAS DYING FROM AN ENCEPHALITIS-INFECTED MOSQUITO AND I AM VERY PRONE TO MOSQUITO BITES, I DECIDED TO RE-START MY CAR AND BACK INTO THE OPEN PARKING SPACE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE CONDO UNIT, A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 40 FEET FROM MY ORIGINAL STOP. I PROCEEDED TO BACK UP VERY SLOWLY AND VERY CAREFULLY INTO THE PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF THE CONDOMINIUM UNIT. PURCHASED A 2009 BUICK LACROSSE IN FEB 09 FOR MY WIFE - AT VARIOUS TIMES ABOUT 6 EVENTS HAVE HAPPENED ALL TOGETHER WITH A STRONG ALCOHOL ODOR COMING INTO THE INTERIOR. THE SMELL IS STRONG AND CAUSES HER NOSE, EYE AND THROAT TO BURN. THIS PAST WEEKEND - SHE DROVE IT TO VA BEACH, VA WITH FAMILY AND IT HAPPENED TWICE ON SUNDAY - JUNE 7, 2009. MY CONCERN IS IF THE BUILD UP OF THIS STRONG ALCOHOL ODOR COMES INTO THE CAR - CAN THE ODOR CAUSE A FIRE? I HAVE HAD IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED AND THEY SAID UNTIL IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME - THERE IS NOT A THING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. I AM TAKING IT TO ANOTHER GM DEALERSHIP IN THE MORNING TO SEE WHAT THEY COME UP WITH. WE LIKE THE CAR, BUT AM AFRAID IT MAY CAUSE A FIRE WITH THIS STRONG ODOR COMING INTO THE CABIN OF THE AUTO, OR CAUSE MY WIFE TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE SHE HAS LUNG COPD PROBLEMS AND THE ODOR TAKES HER BREATH AWAY IT IS SO STRONG. THIS HAS HAPPENED ONCE IN FEB, TWICE IN MARCH, ONCE IN APRIL AND TWICE IN JUNE THAT SHE HAS NOTICED. I HAVE ALSO SMELLED AN ODD ODOR ON A TRIP TO COLUMBUS, OHIO. CAN YOU HELP FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM OR LET ME KNOW IF OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. THANKS *TR
