The airbag warning light has remained illuminated since I acquired the vehicle in January 2025. The warning light stays on continuously and does not reset. This indicates a fault in the airbag system, and I have been advised that when this light is on, the airbags may be disabled and may not deploy in a crash. The vehicle has also experienced ongoing electrical problems, including lighting failures, blown fuses, and shift-interlock malfunctions, which suggests an electrical system fault affecting multiple safety-related systems. These issues create concern that the airbag control system may be impacted by the same electrical malfunction. The vehicle has not been repaired or diagnosed by a dealer for the airbag issue. The condition is still present and the warning light remains illuminated. This failure creates a serious safety risk because the airbags may not function in the event of a collision.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the driver’s side front air bag sensor warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle and completed a diagnostic test which displayed a failure with the front driver’s side air bag. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately of 52,000.

"TAKATA RECALL" I BOUGHT MY CAR IN 2009. ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE DEALER WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. WHEN I CHECKED THE VIN NUMBER IT WAS NOT AMONG THE MANY, MANY AVEOS TAGGED FOR RECALL TO REPLACE FAULTY AIRBAG SYSTEMS. AND I'M NOT ALONE. COMPLAINTS KEEP PILING IN FROM AVEO OWNERS ABOUT THE AIRBAG SAFETY LIGHTS THAT NEVER TURN OFF, NEARLY CATCHING UP WITH 20 YEARS OF "COMPLAINTS INVOLVING TAKATA INFLATORS..." MY CAR WAS PARKED WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL BACKED INTO MY PASSENGER DOOR. THE COLLISION WAS SO SEVERE THE DOOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. YET IT TRIGGERED NO AIRBAGS. DID YOU KNOW WHILE THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ENGAGED, THE CAR CANNOT BE SOLD? YOU THINK THIS MIGHT BE DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT INDICATES A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM - THAT MOST PROMINENT FEATURE IN AVEO'S HIGHLY TOUTED "5-POINT" SAFETY RATING? AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS STAYED ON FOR 2 MONTHS. UNABLE TO DETECT WHAT IS WRONG WITH ELECTRONIC READER. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING 20MPH WHILE TURNING AND HAS NEVER WENT OFF (STARTED AROUND 125,000MILES). I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC, HE CHECKED WIRES AND HOOKED IT UP TO A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE AND BELIEVES IT IS EITHER THE MODULE OR THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT, BUT CAN'T/WON'T GIVE AN EXACT CAUSE. WHEN I TRIED TO CONTACT GM THEY KEPT SAYING I WAS JUST GOING OFF WHAT THE INTERNET SAID AND NEEDED TO SEE A DEALER. BEEN SMELLING SOMETHING THAT SIMILAR TO PLASTIC BUT COULD NOT LOCATE ANYTHING BUT NOW I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE FUSES BLOWN FOR LOW BEAMS AND DRL. ULTIMATELY ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS HAVE NOW GONE OUT ALONG WITH NO TAIL LIGHTS OR LOW BEAMS OR DRLS AT ALL AND NO HORN. DEALER IS SAYING THAT THE FUSE BLOCK IS GOING TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED BUT THE CAR ONLY HAS 83,000 AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL OUT THERE FOR THE DRL MODULE MELTING OR CATCHING ON FIRE BUT LOW AND BEHOLD MY CAR IS NOT ON THAT RECALL BUT LOOKS TO ME THAT IT SHOULD BE. RECALL FOR DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHTS OVER HEATING DIDN'T APPLY TO MY PARTICULAR CAR, BUT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM IN MY CAR REGARDLESS. GROUND WIRES IN MY HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY HAVE FRIED AND LEFT SCORCH MARKS ON HEADLIGHT CONNECTION. NO ACTUAL FIRE YET JUST A MELTED PLASTIC UNDER THE HOOD. SINCE THE DRL MODULE WAS REPLACED AS A RECALL ITEM, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE EACH HEADLIGHT EVERY 2-8 WEEKS DUE TO BURNING OUT. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM WITH THE SO-CALLED "REPAIR."

WHILE DRIVING ON I95 MY RPMS DROPPED TO ZERO WITHOUT WARNING AND I WAS ABLE TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR SMELLED LIKE IT WAS BURNING. AND, SMOKE BEGAN TO COME FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY AND I PARKED THE CAR IN FRONT OF A STORE.. TIMING BELT BREAKS TOO OFTEN. THE CAR HAS NOW HAD THE TIMING BELT REPLACE 3 TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT I BOUGHT IT AT 69,000 MILES I WAS REPLACED AT AROUND 74K THEN BROKE AND LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AT NIGHT TIME AFTER HOURS AT 121K THEN HAS BROKE AGAIN AT 134K THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A 60K PART AND IS NOT LASTING LIKE IT SHOULD AND WHEN IT BREAKS CAUSES OTHER STUFF AROUND IT TO BE AFFECTED AS WELL. THE FIRST TIME I HAD TO REPLACE WATER PUMP, THE 2ND TIME WATER PUMP AS WELL AS ENGINE GASKETS AND IT COST ME $2600 TO FIX. THIS LAST TIME JUST THE WATER PUMP AND A WATER HOSE. THIS LAST TIME IT LEFT MY DAUGHTER STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AFTER DARK ON HER WAY HOME FROM COLLEGE LUCKILY HER BOYFRIEND WAS ABLE TO COME PICK HER UP. THIS CAR IS NOTORIOUS FOR THE TIMING BELT ISSUE. ALL THREE TIMES THIS HAS BEEN REPAIRED BY 3 DIFFERENT SHOPS AND ALL THREE SAY THAT THIS CAR HAS MAJOR ISSUES DUE TO THE TIMING BELTS NOT BEING STURDY. CHEVY SHOULD BE REPLACING THESE CARS OR REFUNDING THE COST OF HAVING THESE REPAIRED YOU CAN'T EVEN RESELL TO PEOPLE DUE TO THIS ISSUE. ALSO I NEVER EVEN GOT A LETTER REGARDING THE HEAD LAMP RECALL. MY CHEVY AVEO HAS HAD EL CERVICAL ISSUES FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS YEAR ON LIGHTING BUT MY VIN IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RECALL AND I AM HAVING THE SAM ISSUES. AND NOW NOTHING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF MY CAR IS WORKING. The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 06V398000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact stated that after the vehicle was involved in an accident, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to restart on various occasions. No warning lights were illuminated, and the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the failure had reoccurred, and the vehicle failed to restart. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving, the vehicle began experiencing repeated electrical failures including blown fuses, inoperative headlights and brake lights, and the transmission becoming locked in PARK. When the fuse blows, the gear shift cannot be moved out of PARK and the ignition key cannot be removed, leaving the vehicle stuck and unable to be driven or safely turned off. The brake lights and daytime running lights also stop working, making the vehicle unsafe to operate in traffic. This condition has been occurring repeatedly and requires frequent fuse replacement just to move or shut off the vehicle. An emergency override hole on the shifter had already been exposed, indicating the problem existed before and the vehicle was previously being forced out of PARK manually. A tow truck driver had to use this override to move the vehicle. The airbag warning light is also illuminated, indicating the safety restraint system may not function properly in a crash. These failures create a serious safety risk due to loss of exterior lighting, inability to shift, inability to turn the ignition off, and possible airbag malfunction. This failure is consistent with a known defect involving the Daytime Running Light (DRL) module overheating and causing electrical shorts, as documented in manufacturer recall and technical service bulletins for this vehicle. The problem has been reproduced multiple times and remains unresolved.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN SPEED FOR MILES AS PRESSURE WAS REMOVED FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE ALSO STALLED APPROXIMATELY FIFTY TIMES WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD DECELERATE INDEPENDENTLY, THE RPMS WOULD FLUCTUATE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD JERKS FORWARD ERRATICALLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE MECHANICAL BRAKE SWITCH STICKS IN THE OPEN POSITION. THE DRIVER DEPRESSES THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE SWITCH DOES NOT CLOSE AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON. AT LEAST EIGHT OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE APPEAR TO BE LISTED ON THE NTSB WEB SITE, HOWEVER, MANY DRIVERS APPEAR TO BE UNAWARE THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK AND INSTEAD, THEY COMPLAIN ABOUT A SECOND SYMPTOM OF THE STUCK SWITCH: THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR OUT OF PARK. THE OWNER'S MANUAL DOES DESCRIBE A WAY FOR THE DRIVER TO OVERCOME THE SHIFT INTERLOCK PROBLEM BUT FAILS TO MENTION THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS MAY FAIL WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS. IT APPEARS THAT A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO ENCOUNTER THIS PROBLEM CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND RELY ON THE SHIFT INTERLOCK OVERRIDE WITHOUT REALIZING THAT THEIR BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS SAME SWITCH IS USED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT IT IS COMMON IN OTHER VEHICLES FOR THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TO ALSO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. IF THAT IS THE CASE WITH THIS MODEL, THEN THE STUCK SWITCH MIGHT ALSO PREVENT THE CRUISE CONTROL FROM DISENGAGING WHEN A DRIVER TAPS THE BRAKES.

CHEVROLET AVEO 2007 ABS BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE TO BRAKE DURING SLOW SPEEDS AND ONE TIME ON THE HIGHWAY. I CURRENTLY HAVE 98,000+ MILES ON A CHEVROLET AVEO 2007 AND WHILE RECENTLY GETTING SEVERAL SERVICES COMPLETED IN THE $500 RANGE I GOT NEW BRAKE PADS ON MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY WERE WORM OUT. I WAS ALSO HAVING BREAKING PROBLEMS WHILE PARKING MY VEHICLE. THE ABS DON'T ALLOW THE BREAKS TO ENGAGE AND I HAVE TO USE THE EMERGENCY BREAK. ITS NOW BEEN AROUND 3 MONTHS SINCE NOVEMBER 2009 WHEN THE ABS BREAKING SYSTEM BEGAN TO FAIL AND MY VEHICLE STOPPING HAS GOTTEN WORSE. THE DEALER REFUSES TO COVER THE PARTS UNDER WARRANTY NOR TO CHECK THE PROBLEM FOR FREE. I HAVE REPLACED THE FUSE WHEN THIS FIRST OCCURRED AS HEARING THE PCM CAN RESET CAUSING THE SYSTEM TO WORK AGAIN AS IT DID UNTIL THIS YEAR. I RECENTLY BROUGHT MY VEHICLE INTO THE CHEVROLET DEALER WHOM HAS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED MY VEHICLE FOR $69.99 PLUS TAX. A SPEED SENSOR BAD WAS DIAGNOSED AND IS GETTING FIXED. THE DEALER TOLD ME THIS PART ISN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND COST $150. THE ABS GOING BAD ON THE HIGHWAY WAS THE FINAL CALL WHEN PULLING OFF THE INTERSTATE AT 35 MPH AND DURING PARKING/SLOW SPEEDS I'M REQUIRED TO USE THE PARKING BREAK. I BOUGHT MY AVEO NEW. AT ONLY 6,000 MILES THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED AND 5,000 MILES LATER THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED AND I CRASHED--THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. GM WOULD FIXED THE BRAKE BOOSTER BUT NOT THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR! AT 13,000 MILES THE BRAKE DRUMS NEEDED TO BE RE-SURFACED, THE BRAKE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE CUT, AND I HAD TO GET NEW BRAKE PADS--AGAIN GM WOULD NOT FIX IT AND MADE ME PAY FOR IT. AT 16,000 MILES THE AIR BAG SENSOR FOR THE PASSENGER FAILED. AT 18,000 MILES THE GAS GAUGE FAILED AND THE SHIFTER GOT STUCK IN PARK, AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD WORK ON AND OFF. AT 20,000 MILES THE ALL FOUR TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AROUND THIS TIME, GAS MILEAGE DIPPED TO ABOUT 19-21MPG, BUT GM COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHY. AT 30,000 MILES I HAD TO GET NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS--AGAIN I HAD TO PAY FOR IT EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE WEARING OUT PREMATURELY. AT 35,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SHIFT HARD SO GM RECOMMENDED I CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AT A COST $450 BECAUSE THE FLUID HAS A SPECIAL ADDITIVE THAT IS SHIPPED FROM KOREA! AT 44,000 MILES THE ENGINE DIED--MORE LIKE BLEW UP. GM SAID THAT IT IS MY FAULT FOR LETTING IT RUN TOO HOT, THOUGH I HAD NO WARNING FROM ANY GAUGES, LIGHTS, ECT... AGAIN I HAD TO FIX IT EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. AT 48,000 MILES THE A/C NEEDED TO BE OVERHAULED--I HAD TO PAY FOR IT. AT 52,000 MILES I HIT A DEER AND AGAIN THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE INSURANCE COMPANY JUNKED IT. ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT A DOUBT IN MY MIND THE WORST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED. GM SHOULD BE SUED FOR THIS CAR. THEY DO NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY AT ALL. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS TREATED ME WITH DISRESPECT. A COUPLE OF DEALERS REFUSED TO EVEN ACCEPT MY CAR FOR REPAIR. THE CONTACT CARRIES A HAMMER IN THE VEHICLE IN CASE SHE HAS TO BREAK THE WINDOWS TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,080 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56. UPDATED 5/30/08 *CN THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYED ON, THE TRUNK LID WOULD POP OPEN WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD OPEN AS WELL, THE TRANSMISSION HAD A STRANGE ROARING SOUND AND IT WAS ALSO HARD TO UPSHIFT AND DOWNSHIFT, THE ODOMETER WOULD JUMP FORWARD ON ITS OWN WHEN IT WAS PARKED AND THEN RESTARTED, THE HORN WOULD BLOW ON ITS OWN WHEN NO ONE WAS IN THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT ADEQUATE FOR THE VEHICLE. THEY CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BE TOO CLOSE TO THE GROUND. THE TIRES PROVIDED VERY LITTLE TRACTION DURING THE WINTER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET AVEO. WHILE MAKING A TURN BETWEEN 5-10 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS AND CHECKED THE AIR PRESSURE, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY PERFORMED AN UNKNOWN REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE GRINDING NOISE WOULD RETURN IN A FEW MONTHS BECAUSE THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL. THE CONTACT NOTICED OIL LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE OIL PUMP GASKET WAS LEAKING AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE GASKET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,751 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000.

2007 CHEVROLET AVEO PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON WHEN MY WIFE WHO WEIGHTS ABOUT 130 LBS. I HAVE HAD THE AUTO INTO THE DEALERSHIP 7 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN FEB 2007 TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. THEY CLAIM THAT THEY HAVE CONTACTED GM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, BUT NOT COME UP WITH A FIX FOR IT. I CALLED GM CUSTOMER RELATIONS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY ARE NO HELP EITHER. THEY CLAIM THEY REPLACED EVERY THING CONNECTED WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM, BUT IT STILL DON'T WORK. MY WIFE WILL NOT RIDE IN THE CAR THE WAY IT IS, SO I HAVE A CAR THAT I CAN'T TAKE MY WIFE WITH ME WHEN I GO ANY PLACE.
