I had the excessive oil consumption recall repair done when it was recalled originally, however the problem has returned and from my research it appears that the piston rings were not the proper size to stop the oil from blowing back out the exhaust. Is there anything I can do about that as far as having those repairs covered again?

I purchased this vehicle on[XXX]. I was advised that there was an open recall for the O2 SENSOR. On 11/11/24, I took this vehicle to LOU BACHRODT in Coconut Creek,Fl. where they performed the recall. Shortly after having the recall done my vehicle's check engine light came on and then would turn off and continue to come intermittently. I took it to one of my local parts store that does the check engine light scan and it was giving the code for a faulty O2 sensor. I took it back to same dealership on 12/17/24. I explained to Charles Ramasir ( service advisor) what was happening. He ran a scan even though the check engine was not on at that moment. The code that was stored was a transmission modular code. He said I would have to bring the vehicle back when the engine light was actually on because he could not accept a scan/fix finder report from any other then this dealership. The problem continued and was now affecting the performance of my vehicle. I was able to get the vehicle back to Lou Bachrodt while the lite was on and their scan did indicate the O2 sensor. The part was reordered and the recall was done a second time by Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet. My vehicle continues to have the same problem. The engine lite continues to come on intermittently and the scans continue to indicate a problem with the O2 sensor: code on [XXX] =P0138 code on [XXX] =P2271 I returned to Lou bachrodt on may 3,25 while the lite was on. As I drove into the service area the service greeter advised me to drive up and wait for the service advisor-Charles. I proceeded to turn off he vehicle and wait. As soon as I turn the vehicle back on to show Charles the engine lite, it was no longer on. And once again I was told that if the lite was not on he could not run the scan or accept the scan report from Auto Zone from the day before. He also seems to be fixated on the transmission code that no longer comes up in current scan reports. problem not solved and continues. please help. My check engine light has been on and I've had people with machines to turn it off. It came back on each time. It is available for inspection. I don't feel totally safe as I don't know when or where it might fail and what that would look like. No, the it has not been inspected by anyone. The only warning I have is that the check engine light stays on.

PCV freeze-up with blown main rear seal losing all oil almost instantly while driving on the interstate at 70MPH in 1 degree F weather. Spent 2.5 hours on the side of the road in 1F weather in a vehicle with no heat (because the engine was blown) before a tow truck could arrive. No warnings ahead of time, and no notification from GM of this well-known problem. Although it is a design flaw of the engine, it would be easily preventable if GM would notify users of the potential for this catastrophic problem.

While operating my vehicle today, it began to rain and I went to turn on my wipers, and they would not turn on. I had to pull over several times due to poor visibility ecause of the rain. I had to wait for traffic to slow down or pass me by to avoid an accident. This has never happened to me and I was scared out of my mind.

A light sprinkle happen and I turned on wipers and they immediately stopped. Fuse looks fine. I'm a Single father and can't afford to fix and this shouldn't have happen.

Multiple ongoing issues with the vehicle (oil consumption - approximately 2 quarts consumed per oil life cycle with the updated oil life index monitor, clogged catalytic converter - likely due to the oil consumption) with the most recent being a windshield wiper linkage failure and the Special Coverage that expired 10 months ago based on time, but vehicle is still within the mileage limit of the Special Coverage. The Special Coverage, N192266180 Wiper Transmission Arm Linkage Failure, is good for 10 years or 150,000 miles whichever comes first. The subject vehicle coverage expired on 4/26/22 and it is now March 2023; the vehicle has 122,689 miles on it versus the 150,000 mile limit. The issue was discovered when my daughter attempted to use them to wipe some wet snow from the window but the wipers did not move...she thought the wipers were frozen. When I checked the wipers, you could hear the wiper motor attempting to actuate the wipers but there was not movement of the wiper blades. The wipers can be moved by hand with both wipers moving in unison when one wiper arm is pulled/pushed back and forth, so it appears this is the condition in the special coverage. Contacted a Chevrolet dealer as well as Chevrolet Customer Assistance and neither would offer any coverage since the Special Coverage expired by time (even though the vehicle is well within the mileage limit). Fortunately, the failed wiper system did not cause an accident, but this could easily be considered a safety issue that should have full coverage by Chevrolet, regardless of mileage and time, under a product safety recall.

My Vehicle had an open Recall N192268180 TAILPIPE EMISSIONS - OXYGEN SENSOR. I made an appt for the recall for 1/20/2025 at Capital Chevrolet in Wake Forest, NC. The appt was cancelled and rescheduled for 2/10/2025 due to them needing to order parts for the recall. On 2/10/2025 my vehicle was dropped off and i was told it should be finished by end of day 2/10 or early morning 2/11/2025. On 2/11/2025 I called the dealership to see when my vehicle would be ready and was told the recalled part caused damage to my Catalytic Converter and they would need to replace it but this would be covered under the recall. At that time I asked about a Loaner car from the dealership because they were estimating 3 additional days and I do not have another vehicle to use to get to work or transport my children. The dealership reached back out to me on 2/12/2025 to say I did not qualify for a loaner because it is outside my vehicles extended warranty but they would have the part in hopefully that day or the next. I followed up on 2/13/2025 and was told they did not have the part yet. On 2/14/2025 I contacted the dealership to see when they were estimating I would have my vehicle done and was told that I could pickup my vehicle that day even though the repair was not complete because it was drivable and they just were waiting on a harness. i was scheduled to bring my vehicle back the following Monday for the harness to be installed. On Monday, [XXX] when I went to start my vehicle to take it to the dealership it made unusual noises then cut off and will not turn back on. I have left voicemails for the dealership and the manager, and I have contact my insurance to have it towed to the dealership but at this point I have missed a week of work causing me to lose income and do not have the $168 needed to tow the vehicle to the dealership. I have attempted to get assistance from the dealership and the manufacturer with no solution offered other than to pay out of pocket to tow it. Bought in May 2024 and at that time had a open recall post catalytic converter o2 sensor which led to the discovery of a cracked exhaust manifold and according to service advisor would release toxic fumes in the cab of the vehicle.

In May 2024 there was an open recall regarding o2 sensor which was "fixed" by the dealer in July 2024. On September 22, 2024 the check engine light was triggered and diagnostics revealed o2 sensor failure. It could be a safety issue.

My car just died, stopped, immediate dead car in full on rush hour traffic on the highway main road, me and my two grandchildren sitting in a car not able to move at all, not able to get restart. In review this is happening to 2012 and other years Chevrolet Equinox with no one knowing what the true actual engine problem is. it had to be pushed off the main hwy before we could have been injured or worse. When will the first death occur Chevrolet. This needs to be RECALLED, or BOUGHT BACK CARS BEFORE DEATH LAWSUITS BEGIN.

Chevy sold the Equinox knowing full well that it had engine problems. The oil system fails, using oil at an excessive rate and oil dumping from engine. They were aware that around 80,000 miles the car would need over $4000 in repairs. They also knew the timing chain gets off timing causing over $2000 in repairs. Both of which happened to my vehicle within 6 months. The Engine ceased up and was undrivable. It sat in our driveway for over 18 months while we paid off the loan.

THE CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER SENSOR CAME ON AND SHUT DOWN. IT WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE DUE TO LACK OF OIL DUE TO BENT PISTON RINGS AND THE OIL ESCAPING. ALL OF THAT WAS REPAIRED AND MAYBE 6 MONTHS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND IT WAS DECIDED THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE TO THE ENGINE BASED ON THE PREVIOUS OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. THE ENGINE WAS THEN REPLACED AS WELL AS THE ECM BOARD DUE TO OIL BEING ALL OVER IT COMPLETELY RUINING THE SENSORS. WE ALSO HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE EVAP SYSTEM DUE LACK OF OXYGEN AND THE CAR CONSTANTLY CHOCKING OUT WHILE IN MOTION AND WHILE IDELING. WE FILED OUR CLAIM WHEN THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT CAME OUT AND OF COURSE WE'RE DENIED, JUST LIKE THE THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE DUE TO THERE BEING 'LACK OF PROOF' THAT IT WAS DUE TO LACK OF OIL. I WAS CONSTANTLY CHECKING MY OIL, GETTING IT CHANGED, ADDING THE RIGHT OIL WHEN IT WAS LOW AND BECAUSE I DID NOT DO THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST THROUGH GM WE ARE OUT ALMOST 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS ON A CAR THAT STILL HAD ISSUES DUE TO THE LACK OF OIL. THE FIRST TIME IT BROKE DOWN I HAD A POWER TRAIN WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE AND THEY DID AN INVESTIGATION TO MAKE SURE IT WAS DUE TO A LACK OF OIL CHANGES AND BUILD UP OF DIRTY OIL, IT WAS PROVED THAT THE OIL ESCAPED THROUGH THE BENT PISTON RINGS AND BURNT OFF INSTEAD OF GOING BACK INTO THE ENGINE. THEY DID COVER THE TIMING CHAIN BUT ONCE THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WE NO LONGER HAD THE WARRANTY. I'M NOT SURE WHY THAT INVESTIGATION WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE SETTLEMENT TO GO THROUGH BUT REGARDLESS THESE VEHICLES ARE SO UNSAFE AND MONEY PITS AND ARE STILL BEING SOLD TO INNOCENT PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE GETTING THEMSELVES INTO. A RECALL ABSOLUTELY SHOULD BE MADE.

ENGINE IS BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. PER MECHANIC THIS HAS AFFECTED TIMING CHAIN, VALVES, PISTONS FOR WHICH THERE WAS A RECALL. I DO NOT RECALL RECEIVING A NOTICE OF THIS RECALL. MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS NO/VERY LITTLE OIL WHEN I TOOK TO HIM TO CHECK WHAT WAS CAUSING VEHICLE TO RUN RUFF AND SOUND RUFF. HE SAID PARTS WERE CAKED WITH OIL. MECHANIC SUGGESTED TO TAKE TO DEALER FOR RECALL KIT REPAIR.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who discovered that the front axle bracket had fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. 2012 EQUINOX HAS BEEN USING MORE OIL THAN IT SHOULD. TOOK IT IN FOR A RECALL THIS WEEK, CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, REPLACED THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. ENGINE WOULD LOSE POWER WHEN I SLOWED DOWN OR TRIED TO ACCELERATE. TOOK IT BACK IN, SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID I MY TIMING CHAINS ARE STRETCHED, THE CHAINS, GUIDES AND ACTUATORS NEED TO BE REPLACED ASAP BEFORE MY ENGINE STOPS FOR GOOD. SERVICE PERSON STATED THEY CONTACTED GM AND THEY WILL NOT HELP WITH THE COST TO FIX IT. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN APRIL 2019, IT HAS 89,441 MILES ON IT.

THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) HAS FAILED. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PUT INTO EITHER "R" OR "D" THE VEHICLE LURCHES, AND THE "R" OR "D" FLASHES. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE VEHICLE IS NOT OPERABLE. PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR - THE VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE FORWARD. THIS CONDITION WILL ALSO OCCUR DURING OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. REGARDLESS OF TRAVEL SPEED AT THE TIME, THE VEHICLE WILL SLAM INTO A LOW GEAR. THIS CREATES A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY RISK. ON A WET, SNOWY, OR ICY ROAD IT WOULD SURELY CAUSE THE OPERATOR TO LOOSE CONTROL AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 38,000 MILES. I'VE BEEN TO PLENTY OF MECHANIC SHOPS AND THEY ALL HAVE SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT THE MOTOR AND THE ENGINE THAT'S IN THESE CARS THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT THE RIGHT ENGINES AND EVERYONE THAT HAVE THESE CARS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE GOTTEN EVERYTHING FIXED AND MY ENGINE IS GOING BAD. I'VE BEEN TOLD THERE IS A RECALL FOR MY ENGINE & OR MOTOR. FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GAVE BEEN ON THEN OUT THE BLUE MY STABILITRAK COMES ON NO ONE COULD FIGURE IT OUT I TOOK IT TO GM THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING BESIDES SPARK PLUGS, OIL CHANGE ,FUEL FLUSH & ENGINE TOP CLEANER NOW THEY SAYING AFTER THE SPARKPLUGS GOT DONE IT CLEARED THAT CODE BUT NOW MY ENGINE IS BAD. I GET OIL CHANGED EVERY MONTH. WHICH MEANS IT'S GETTING TO MUCH OIL.

2012 CHEVORLET EQUINOX WITH 2.4L ENGINE WITH 123,525 MILES HAS MANY SAFETY CONCERNS. AS A RESULT OF THIS SPECIFIC ENGINE, THERE ARE ISSUES THAT AFFECT THE QUALITY OF SAFETY. THIS VEHICLE HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, NEEDS FREQUENT OIL REFILLING (AT LEAST 1QUART/WEEKLY), AND EMITS THE SMELL OF FUMES AND LINGERS WHEN VEHICLE IS ON. I AM NOT ABLE TO HAVE THE CAR ON STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT OR SIMPLY WHILE IN PARK WITHOUT THE OVERWHELMING SMELL OF FUMES. THIS VEHICLE HAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ON TWO OCCASIONS: FIRST, IT SHUT OFF HALFWAY UP A RAMP LEADING OFF FROM THE HIGHWAY AND SECOND, DURING A RED LIGHT AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. THERE WERE VEHICLES DRIVING BEHIND AT BOTH TIMES. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, NOR DO I THINK IT IS SAFE TO HAVE OTHERS IN THE CAR.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the rocker panel of the vehicle had been rusting. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the driver’s and passenger’s side outer and inner rocker panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM A DEALERSHIP IN LEXINGTON KY 6K AND UNDER. I HAD TO CHANGE THE BREAKS AND I WAS UNABLE TO JACK THE CAR UP. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE AUTO SHOP THE FRAME AND ROCKER PANELS ARE RUSTED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS MADE IN CANADA AND I SEEN THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE FRAME IS WEAK. WHAT SHOULD I DO AND IS THE RECALL STILL VALID?

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ROCKER PANELS DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUBFRAME COULD RECEIVE A TEMPORARY REPAIR HOWEVER, THE REPAIR WOULD NOT FIX THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL AND ALSO THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,515.

ALL FOUR DOORS THE PAINT IS BUBBLING AND THE DRIVERS DOOR THERE IS RUST ALL THE WAY ALONG IT. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THE SERVICE REP AND THE HEAD OF THE BODY SHOP BOTH LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. CAR SITS IN THE GARAGE WHEN NOT IN USE. I AM THE ONLY DRIVER, AND IT GETS IN TOWN DRIVING.

WHEN IN-MOTION AT MY POWER STEERING FAILS, THE WHEEL SEEMS TO GRAB AND MY CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS MOMENTARILY NOT IN MY CONTROL. IT HAPPENS ON STRAIGHT AWAYS AND MOST OFTEN IN SLOW SPEED TURNS. MY CONCERNS ARE THE INCIDENTS THAT MIGHT HAPPENS IN BUSY TRAFFIC AND ON WET & ICED ROADWAYS. Rear tailgate. Borrowed vehicle from a friend for a trip. When opening the tailgate with the external switch it opens all the way and immediately comes back down about 12 inches or so then it immediately goes back up and immediately comes all the way down. My wife was almost trapped between the bottom of the tailgate and the floor of the storage compartment. When I tried it, I tried to hold it up when it started down for the second time and it was impossible for me to stop the tailgate from closing. It substantially overpowered me. There is a PROBABILITY that it could have broken her back or strangled her. Even more so if she was packing the car by herself. I exerted all my strength trying to stop the tailgate as I indicated before. I have not contacted anyone about this situation. The vehicle has a little over 84K miles and is in excellent condition. When I called my friend about the problem she said she was aware of it and is living with it because it would cost over $1,000.00 to fix it. I know she bought it used from Ferman Chevrolet in Tampa a few years ago. I was hoping to get it fixed for her before returning the car to her.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while performing a daily oil check, the contact became aware that the oil level was low while checking the dipstick. The contact added oil and contacted the dealer and was advised that oil should be added. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the warranty had expired and referred the contact to the dealer. The failure mileage was 24,500.

This has already been recalled on some 2012 Chevy equinox but apparently not mine. The key gets stuck in the ignition when I try turning it off. So I have to turn on my on, put it in reverses and then turn my car off and take my keys out and then put my car back in park so I can get out of my car. This has been recalled in my type of car. The recall number is 16V502000 the recall date is 2016-07-05….. I’ve called the local Chevy dealer ship and they said that my Specific car is not covered under this recall even though it 100% has the problem and should be 100% covered. It’s wiper blades also have just gone out and that they are fixing under the recall and I also have the tire pressure sensor that’s messing up as well. All 3 things are recalled on Chevy equinox and it should be covered on mine as well.

Having problems with the power locks not working, can't lock from the inside driver's door. Door chime goes off with keys out of ignition. Says theft is detected and now the car tries starting on its own without the keys in the ignition. The car has also been in park, the car made a loud noise and started rolling. Safety issue seems to be in the wiring. Who knows what this will effect next.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH, HE SUFFERED A MEDICAL CONDITION AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, CRASHING INTO A THREE FEET HIGH CEMENT BOULDER. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. BOTH THE DRIVER AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGER HAD THEIR SEAT BELTS LATCHED AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND WAS TOWED TO A TOW YARD. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 133,000.

I was driving my equinox coming up on a red traffic light. Upon pushing down on the brake pedal the radio shut off and the dash started flashing all of the lights very rapidly. The light turned green and i pushed on the accelerator, and there was little or no power and the car killed. I was in the intersection so I quickly put it in park and the car restarted, but had very little power. I was now on a slight incline so I barely made it into gas station and before I could park the car stalled again. Now the doors were locked and I could not unlock them. Did I mention I live in MN and the temp was -9 (31 below windchill) and I was stuck in my car. Horn, doors and windows would not work. It got very cold very quick! After trying and trying 15 min later the doors unlocked. I am 64 and disabled. A man gave me a jump and the car ran roughly without power for about 2 min. and died again. I called a friend who came and jumped the car. He left the cables on for 10 min. or so and had me try it. I was about 3/4 mile from home and he unhooked the cables and said "Go! Go!" so I raced toward home. He followed and a block before home the car killed again! He jumped it again and I got it home. The "service stabilitrack, front camera and all wheel drive" warning lights were all flashing in sequence as was the battery light on the dash and the "charging system" warning. I had the alternator and battery replaced, all fuses and connections checked, and all cables and terminals checked. It still will not hold a charge, and it is my only means of transportation. It is a VERY large paperweight! I see pages of complaints, yet there is no recall. If I was in a more secluded area I could have froze to death! Is that what it will take? Loss of life? Let me state that before this happened there was NO WARNING! No lights came up that there was a problem. PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!!

On dec. 29,2021 I started my car and while I was warming the engine(idle) the following lights came on: Engine,Break, ABS, TCS/StabiliTrak, Service All Wheel Drive, Service StabliTrak & all the gauges except the fuel were moving up & down. Also on the shifter the P was blinking. I turned the car off then sack on after a few seconds & it came on like normal I drove a few blocks made a stop in the corner store for a btl of water & when I got back into the car it wouldn’t start. When I turned the key to start it the dash would go completely dark when I’d let the key go the dash would come back on. Everything time I tried to start the car the dash would go out completely. I got the car towed to a repair shop but they were closed. When I went to the shop that morning I saw that they were closed Jan 1st. So I sat in the car & something said “try it” & the car started like nothing was wrong. I get 3 blocks and the same lights turn on again. I drive for 6 blocks to my parking space in my complex and park. I ended up having to move to let my wife out of the spot but the car wouldn’t start & the dash was doing the same thing from the night before so I put it in neutral and pushed it. Monday I walk to my parking spot & it starts up like nothing happened but the engine light was on so I drove to the mechanic. No lights came on just the engine light and the car has been with my mechanic since 1/1/22. After a few hours googling I found that this car fits the oil consumption issue. How do I go about getting this handled?

MULTIPLE TIMES, I WOULD CHECK MY OIL PREPARING FOR LONG DRIVES, AND I WOULD HAVE TO ADD A QUART OR 2 OF OIL BECAUSE THE DIPSTICK WAS DRY. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT IT AT THE DEALERSHIP, FOX MOTOR'S NEGAUNEE, I WAS REPEATEDLY TOLD THEY WERE KNOWN FOR OIL CONSUMPTION. THE LAST TIME WE DROVE IT, WE WERE DRIVING IN MARQUETTE MI, WHEN STARTED TO SOUND AND RUN AS IF IT'S A DIESEL MOTOR AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED AND RAN LIKE IT WAS AT HALF POWER. IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY NO HIGHER THAN 35 MPH. WE DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP; THEY BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE AND DISCOVERED THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ONCE INTO SERVICE THEY DISCOVERED THE RINGS HAD FAILED, IT ONLY HAD JUST OVER 84,000 MILES, WAY TOO SOON TO HAVE A TIMING BELT FAILURE, OR AN ENGINE FAILURE. AT NO TIME DID THE DEALERSHIP MENTION GETTING OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS AT OUR OIL CHANGES, WHEN THE CONSUMPTION WAS BROUGHT UP, NOR WERE WE ADVISED THERE WERE SERVICE BULLETINS PRIOR TO THE ENGINE FAILURE. THIS IS NOT A RARE INSTANCE, BUT HAS BECOME A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE FAILURE HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE TO CONSUMERS GETTING THEIR MOTORS REBUILT ONLY TO EXPERIENCE FAILURE ANOTHER TIME.

Recently got an oil change, and in a month I’ve had to “top-off” my oil. Constantly have to make sure I carry a few quarts of oil to make sure my oil is filled. One day, I forgot to check the oil and my car was stalling on a busy road. Had to pull over to make sure I put the oil in there. Everyone that I’ve asked said they have the same issue. I stopped asking people after the 10th person. My uncle is a mechanic and he said the same thing about the oil. He said he wasn’t sure where is goes but it just disappears.

So I know of atleast 4 Chevrolet equinox's all haveing the exact same issue doesn't matter milage all in the same area which have a issue saying engine power system low then it starts to studder and often stalls out or then over revs and trys to take off like it's been slingshotted which is unsafe even after repairing many issues it is coming up as and nothing seems to fix said issue. Also timing jumping and after being professionally fixed it jumps timing again shortly after being repaired also milage doesn't seem to be a factor in this issue as I have 1 that has jumped timing with only 150k miles while the other days after timing was all repaired jumped timing again and it has like 200+k miles and I know of atleast 2 others in the area having the same exact issue.

2012 CHEVY EQUINOX WITH 54,000 MI ON IT SUDDENLY BEGINS TO STALL ON RESTARTS. STALLS AT STOP LIGHTS AND WHEN CAR IS MOVING SLOWLY. VERY, VERY DANGEROUS. I PURCHASED A 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX IN DECEMBER 2016 EVERY 4 MONTHS I HAVE HAD TO RETURN TO THE DEALER FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE. THEY HAVE COMPLETED OIL CONSUMPTION TEST ..REPLACE THINGS AND ASSURED ME THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. I TOLD THE DEALER REPRESENTATIVE HOW I SMELLED GAS AND FUMES AND SHE STATED THERE WERE NO KNOWN RECALLS OR DEFECTS WITH THE VEHICLE. I HAVE PAID FOR SEVERAL REPAIRS AT THE DEALER. I bought my 2012 chevy equinox Lt 2.4L because I owed one just like it but a deer totaled it at only 10 mph! It been nothing but issues since I purchased it drove it off the lot the check engine light comes on and then I go to get it checked and it states that I have a permanent catylic converter code that no one can fix except gmc! When I idle at a stop for longer than 1 min it starts stuttering and jerking like it’s gonna die! So I clean my throttle body like the mechanic said I should do and I found this dark brown whitish sludge in my pvc tube that runs up into the air box which now my air box is full of this gunk! I have to put oil into this vehicle every 3 days cause it will be full then three days later it’s just a smidge above out on the dipstick! I am poor I can not afford huge repairs or replacement of yet another vehicle ! GMC needs held accountable since they seem to know about this and it’s not recalled they need to do better in taking care of us poor customers who just want a reliable vehicle!! So VERY upset yet again!!!

I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION EVERY SINCE I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT. THE FIRST SIGNS OF TROUBLE STARTED WHEN THE CAR WOULD CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING IN BUSY TRAFFIC. SUPPOSEDLY THE DEALER FIXED THE ISSUE, NOT SURE IF THAT WAS TRUE BECAUSE IT CONTINUED AS TIME WENT ON. SECONDLY I HAVE HAD SO MANY OIL CHANGES SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE AND THERE IS RECORD OF IT: 3/2019,05/2019,07/2019,(JOHNNY LONDOFF CHEVROLET UP UNTIL 05/2020),05/2020,10/2020,11/2020,02/2021... AND COUNTING. THE VEHICLE HAS A VERY HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION AND IS BRINGING ABOUT MORE ISSUES WITHIN THE VEHICLE. LASTLY BUT NOT LEAST THE SENSORS AND OTHER THINGS ARE BEING DAMAGED IN THE PROCESS. AT THIS CURRENT TIME I AM HAVING "REDUCED ENERGY" ISSUES AND I JUST RECEIVED OIL CHANGE AND I'M BEING TOLD I NEEDED TO ADD OIL, BUT HOW WHEN I JUST GOT A OIL CHANGE. THE TIMING CHAIN SNAPPED WITHOUT ANY KIND OF WARNING CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE, I SEE RECALLS FOR THIS DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO CHEVROLET AND EXPECTED SOME TYPE OF ASSISTANCE AS THERE IS ONLY 68,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT THE RON WESTPHAL CHEVROLET A SALESMAN NAMED ROBERT ITHIER HAD SOLD US THE VEHICLE INTRODUCING US TO THE FORMER OWNER, WE LOOKED THE VEHICLE OVER AND HAD ONE OF OUR MECHANICS CHECK THE VEHICLE AND IT SEEMED FINE. NOW THAT CHEVROLET IS NOT HELPING FIX THIS PROBLEM WE FOUND OUT BEFORE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE CODES WERE CLEARED AND AN ENGINE LIGHT WAS RESET JUST BEFORE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. SINCE APRIL 2018 I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE WHEN COMING TO A SLOW STOP. INITIALLY I THOUGHT THE ISSUE HAD TO DO WITH MY BRAKES. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO THE BRAKE SHOP THREE TIMES SINCE APRIL 2018 AND THEY HAD REPEATEDLY TOLD ME THE BRAKES ARE NOT THE ISSUE. I HAD MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON IN DECEMBER 2018 SO I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE HUBER CHEVROLET IN OMAHA FOR AN OIL CHANGE EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT DUE YET FOR ANOTHER 3 WEEKS. I WAS NEVER TOLD DURING THIS VISIT THAT MY OIL WAS LOW. ON MARCH 7TH, 2019 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN SO I TOOK IT IN AGAIN THE SAME DAY EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE FOR ANOTHER 1000 MILES. I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS 3 QTS LOW ON OIL. I WAS ALSO TOLD OF THIS "SPECIAL POLICY". I WAS ASKED TO BRING MY VEHICLE BACK IN AFTER 500 TO 700 MILES TO HAVE THE OIL CONSUMPTION TESTED. I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE'S "POLICY" ONLY LASTED TIL MAY 2019 WHICH IS JUST A COUPLE MONTHS AWAY. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT ONE ISSUE THE FAST OIL CONSUMPTION CAUSED WAS ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE SHAKING/RATTLING WHEN COMING TO A STOP. STABILITY TRACTION SERVICE LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY COMES ON AND EVENTUALLY GOES OFF. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE VEHICLE. IT HAPPENS ON CITY STREETS, MOUNTAIN AND HILLS WITH MANY CURVES, HIGHWAYS AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED THROUGH A DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY OF 2018 AND I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE THEN. IT DOES NOT SHOW UP ON MY ONSTAR DIAGNOSTIC THAT I RECEIVE MONTHLY. I COMPLAINED TO THE CEO OF GM. AND DID GET A RESPONSE. THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT I SPOKE WITH CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY WOULD CHECK THE PROBLEM FREE. BUT THEY WOULD NOT. I SAW OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS THAT HAVE PAID A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND NO ONE HAS FIGURED OUT WHAT IS CAUSING IT. In 2023, I purchased my 2012 Chevrolet Equinox from a private seller. It was in excellent condition, inside and out with only 75,000 miles on it. She had purchased it brand new. The vehicle was serviced and maintained regularly. She gave me all the receipts and service records when I signed the title. Everything was fine until it hit 76,000 miles. Without any type of warning, the motor went in limp mode and wouldn't accelerate over 24 mph and the valves were rattling very loudly. I immediately pulled over and called triple A and got towed to an auto repair shop. The triple A dispatcher told me what the problem was as soon as I told him it was a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. There was NO OIL in it. Sure enough, the mechanic added 5 quarts of oil and it thankfully, I had pulled over immediately before it blew the engine. I'm a [XXX] so I really don't know how mechanicals and motors work but the gist of it, as explained to me by Chevrolet dealers and mechanics have, the 2012 Chevrolet equinoxes are notoriously famous for excessive oil consumption due to faulty Pistons. CHEVROLET SHOULD'VE INCLUDED THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL IN THE RECALLS! I will NEVER purchase another Chevy or GMC. The rear suspension trailing arm and subframe assembly rusted completely through, causing the suspension to separate from the frame. The corroded and broken components are still attached to the vehicle and are available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The rusted frame and failed trailing arm caused the rear wheel alignment to shift dangerously, making the vehicle unstable and unsafe to drive. If the part had completely detached while driving, it could have caused a total loss of control and a serious accident, endangering the driver, passengers, and others on the road. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The issue was visually inspected and confirmed by an independent repair facility, which advised that the frame is structurally compromised and the vehicle is unsafe to drive without major frame replacement. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not yet by the manufacturer, but photos and documentation are available. The damage has been assessed by a certified mechanic who confirmed the severity and the safety hazard. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lights or messages appeared. The issue was first noticed after hearing unusual noises and instability from the rear of the vehicle. Upon inspection, severe frame rust and separation of the rear trailing arm were discovered.

I have owned this car for over 3 years. I have ALWAYS started the car, closed the doors, gotten the kids in the car, and then got in the car myself and went on with my day. On [XXX], I put my 6 month old baby in the car, closed the door, and when I tried to get into the car, all the doors were locked. NEVER in my time of owning this car have the locks EVER locked itself after just starting it and letting it "warm up". Needless to say, thank God my air was already on so my baby was at least "safe" until the police could arrive and get the car opened. But they unfortunately broke my driver side window trying to get in, and so this safety malfunction could have literally killed my child, but it also did cause me damages that I have to get repaired. When the alternator stopped working everything on the car locked. The doors locked, the steering wheel locked, the key wouldn't come out of the ignition, the windows wouldn't come up or down. I couldn't even physically pull up the door locks. If the driver's door hadn't been slightly open(I was attempting to back out of my driveway on a dirt road where the visibility is poor) I would have been trapped inside with no way to get out without busting the window. I didn't have my phone with me and I was by myself in a very isolated location and no one would have missed me for over 48 hours since my husband works out of state. The temperature here was in excess of 95° even after 4 pm and the vehicle was under no shade. I'm a disabled person also so I truly am scared of the vehicle now. There was no warning about the alternator failing. The car never even showed a warning light. Even after replacing the alternator the battery will not stay charged and now the seatbelt and Airbag warning lights refuse to turn off. The way everything locked up and the fact that I couldn't even physically pull up the lock and the hatchback in the back wouldn't even come open when I pulled the handle is extremely dangerous and concerning

The contact’s friend owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact who is an independent mechanic stated that his friend had taken the vehicle to be repaired after the key became stuck in the ignition. The contact diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the key cylinder lock housing had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V502000 (Electrical System, Power Train) however, an undisclosed dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.

Gauges- oil light does not turn on, when the vehicle is low in motor oil. Which causes internal engine failure, which include, but not limited: timing belts to piston wear. Vehicle was in highway speed and lost vehicle power, which caused safety issues for my vehicle and vehicles behind me. Vehicle also has braking and transmission issues; at full stop on a hill and putting the transmission in "N"eutral the vehicle rolls forward, even when the brakes are fully applied or putting the vehicle back in park.

THE VEHICLE TURNED COMPLETELY OFF, COULD NOT GET KEY OUT OF IGNITION AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS TOTALLY DONE. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. I PAID 1500 TO GET IT BACK ON. R STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING. REPAIRED IT BY CHANGING TIMING CHAIN AND A MONTH LAYER THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WENT OUT AGAIN WHILE WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT. NO WARNING JUST TURNED COMPLETELY OFF AND HAD TO GET IT TOWED AGAIN TO CAAR REPAIR SHOP. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS PROBABLY.TJE TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE. NOT WORTH THE PRICE OF REPAIR BECAUSE IT WOULD PROBABLY END UP COSTING MORE THAN THE CAR WAS WORTH.

BRIEFLY, FOR THE LAST MONTH AND A HALF I HAVE EXPERIENCED ROUGH IDLE ON START AND ROUGH IDLE & STALL WITH THE CAR LOSING POWER AND GOING DEAD AT RED LIGHTS AND IN TRAFFIC WHILE IN DRIVE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE AUTO MECHANIC AND STORED CODES SUGGESTED REPLACING O2 SENSORS, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND A TUNE-UP WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE; I REPLACED ALL OF THE ABOVE TO THE TUNE OF 1400.00; THE ISSUE OF ROUGH IDLING, STALL & LOSING POWER, GOING DEAD AT THE LIGHT/ SITTING IN TRAFFIC HAS NOT RESOLVED. THE 2012 EQUINOX IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE; IT JUST KEEPS STALLING AND GOING DEAD/LOSING POWER WHILE IN DRIVE. I HAVE SPENT ALMOST 1400.00 TRYING TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX THIS ISSUE SINCE DECEMBER 1. MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE THE CEL BUT STILL IDLES ROUGHLY, STALLS AND LOSES POWER/STOPS RANDOMLY AT RED LIGHTS AND IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO SAFELY USE THE 2012 EQUINOX FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE OUT OF THE FOUR WEEKS OF DECEMBER. OUT OF FRUSTRATION I GOOGLED MY EXPERIENCES WITH THE CAR AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS APPARENTLY IS A COMMON ISSUE THAT WAS FOUND IN THE 2011 MODEL (SEE NHTSA ID# 10430919; 10437891; 10499684 & 10413320. RECALL#11195 & 12312. BULLETIN #PI0562, PI0202A, PIP4716 & PI0469). APPARENTLY THIS ISSUE WAS NOT FIXED OR ADDRESSED IN SUBSEQUENT MODELS AS I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO LOCATE A SERVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL ALTHOUGH MY CAR A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY 1,000'S OF DOLLARS DIAGNOSING AND FIXING KNOWN MANUFACTURE DEFECTS. SUBSEQUENT VEHICLES MADE AFTER THE ISSUE WAS FOUND IN TH 2011 SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED OR SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER SERVICE BULLETINS & RECALLS ESPECIALLY SINCE THE CAR IDLES ROUGH WHEN STARTING, LOSES POWER AND CUTS OFF WHILE IN DRIVE WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE IN STOP & GO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC OR AT STREET RED LIGHTS- THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND CAN RESULT IN AN UNNECESSARY ACCIDENT OR EVEN GOD FORBID A FATALITY.

Car kept stalling when slowing down on the highway in traffic on beltway from Maryland to home in Virginia. Very dangerous situation. Car was also sluggish when accelerating. Had to drive with two feet one on brake and gas pedal when slowing down to avoid car shutting off completely on the road. Dropped car off at dealer this evening. I checked and did not see any recalls. Can’t locate safety bulletins from Chevy as they are not published. Dealer said would look for any bulletins. Engine light is on. I read others with models from 2011 to 2015 having same issues for Chevy equinox.

DRIVING AND LOST ALL THE OIL OUT OF THE VEHICLE. HAS A RECALL THAT DOESNT INCLUDE MY VIN. THIS IS AN ISSUE AS THERE ARE THOUSANDS THIS IS HAPPENING TOO. GM REFUSES TO FIX IT. THEY ARE SAYING THAT THE ONLY REASON IT ISNT COVERED IS BECAUSE IT DIDNT COME FROM THE RIGHT PLANT.

EXHAUST CAM SHAFT SOLENOID VALVE REPLACED 3 TIMES WITHIN 1 YEAR. CAM SHAFT INTAKE ACCUATOR REPLACED 1 TIME. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON WHILE TRAVELING ON FREEWAY. ERROR CODE P0014/P0013 CONFIRMED BY DEALERSHIP AT TIME OF REPAIRS. RECENTLY HAD FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION FAILED. ALSO WHILE TRAVELING VIA FREEWAY DURING A HEAVY RAIN STORM THIS CAR HAS 58000 MILES AT THIS TIME AND VERY WELL MAINTAINED.

BOUGHT MY 2012 EQUINOX 9/2012. IN FEBRUARY 2013 MY SUV MADE A LOUD NOISE AND WOULDN'T START. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE MOTOR. TODAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE SHOWED "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" AND SLOWED TO ALMOST A STOP. I MADE IT HOME BUT NOT SURE IF IT'S DRIVEABLE NOW. I'M A NURSE AND WAS IN HOME HEALTH UNTIL THIS LAST YEAR, SO MY VEHICLE HAS HIGH MILEAGE. 113,000. BUT EVEN AT THAT YOU'D THINK SPENDING $23,000 ON A NEW VEHICLE IT WOULD LAST LONGER THEN 5 YEARS.

2012 CHEVY EQUINOX WAS MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC. IT WAS OUT OF OIL BEFORE MY OIL CHANGE WAS DUE. I HAD 1000 MILES LEFT BEFORE MY OIL CHANGE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WITHIN 6 MONTHS. CONTACTED GMC TODAY GOT S CASE NUMBER BUT HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND TAKE IT TO A GMC DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THEN TODAY DURING A SNOW STORM MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS JUST STOPPED WORKING IT WAS A MESS TRYING TO GET HOME MAKING FREQUENT STOPS BECAUSE OF VISIBILITY.GMC SAID THERE ARE NO RECALL FOR THAT OR THE OIL CONSUMPTION BUT I SEE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT ALL THESE ISSUES. BACK ON JAN 14, 2019 OIL WAS CHANGED AS PART OF ROUTINE AT A SERVICE STATION. OPERATOR SUGGESTED WE TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALERS AS PART OF AN OIL CONSUMPTION RECALL HE HEARD ABOUT, WITHIN 200 MILES WE TOOK IT INTO A DEALERSHIP FOR THE TEST TO BE PERFORMED AND THEY REFUSED TO DO IT DUE TO A REAR MAIN SEAL LEAK THAT NO ONE MENTIONED EARLIER OR AT THE OIL CHANGE PLACE. THEY WOULDN'T REPAIR IT AS PART OF THE GM SERVICE BULLETIN 14882 (WHICH IS WHAT CAUSED THE ISSUE) HAD TO PAY $1700 JUST TO GET THE SEAL FIXED SO THEY COULD PERFORM THE TEST ON AN ISSUE GM ALREADY WAS AWARE OF! VEHICLE FINALLY FAILED THE CONSUMPTION TEST AND HAD THE RECALL DONE AT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF BEING FIXED MULTIPLE ELECTRONIC ISSUES HAVE POPPED UP LIKE THE STABILITRAK DISABLING, ENGINE POWER DECREASE WARNING, STALLING WHEN IN IDLE, BURNT SMELL, AIR BAG LIGHTS, AND ABOVE AVG ENGINE NOISES AND HAS SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHO FIXED IT TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE. THIS IS MY WIFE'S DAILY DRIVER AND TAKES OUR KIDS EVERYWHERE SO IT'S IMPERATIVE THAT PEOPLE READ THIS AN REALLY THINK HARD BEFORE BUYING THIS GM PRODUCT IF YOU'VE GOT A FAMILY. I WAS DRIVING WITH MY WIFE AND DOG IN THE CAR LATE AT NIGHT IN COLD ICIEY CONDITIONS IN WYOMING. CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER DRAMATICALLY, STEERING WAS TIGHT, LIGHTS DIMMED, ALSO ENGINE STALLED AFTER A BIT A OF A SLIDE AND SAFELY PULLING OVER. WE COULD HAVE WRECKED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE IN THE ICEY COLD TEMPERATURES. ENGINE LIGHT WAS ONE. TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WAS ON. DASH READS 'SERVICE STABILITRAK' AND 'ENGINE POWER REDUCED !'. I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO QUIT STALLING. I WASN'T SAFELY ABLE TO DRIVE IT. SO I THEN DID A ECU RESET. (DISCONNECT ECU AND BATTERY). SAT FOR 20 MINUTES. RESTARTED AND STILL SAME PROBLEM AFTER IT IDLED ROUGH FOR 5 MINUTES ROUGHLY. SO NEXT I DISCONNECTED THE ECU FUSE NUMBER 42 IN THE ENGINE FUSE BOX. I THEN TURNED KEY IN FIRST POSITION AND HAD SAME READINGS. NEXT I RESET THE CODE WITH MY OBD SCAN TOOL. REPEATED THE FUSE METHOD AGAIN... STILL SAME READING BUT WITHOUT STARTING THE MOTOR ONCE DURING THIS.... MY GUESS IS THE ECU IS VOLITIL TO THIS VEHICLE MOTOR CLASS. SERVICE BULLETIN STATES IT NEEDS A REFLASH. UPDATES FOR ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION AS WELL. VERY INTERESTING AS WE CONSUME TOO MUCH OIL. I BELIEVE ALL MOTOR ISSUES IN OUR VEHICLE WE HAVE NOW (WORN PISTON RINGS ETC) ARE DUE TO A FAULTY ECU. THE FACT THAT THE WARNING SHOWS WHEN RESET AND NOT CONNECTED BECAUSE THE FUSE IS REMOVED PROVES TO ME THE ECU IS HAVING SOFTWARE ISSUE IN RENDERING PROPER DIAGNOSTICS AS WELL AS SAFE ENGINE PERFORMANCE. THIS INCIDENT TOOK PLACE IN AUGUST OF 2017. PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS IN DRY CLIMATES WHERE WE LIVE IN TEXAS. SAME ISSUES. SAME SYMPTOMS. NEW SENSORS, BATTERY, SPARK PLUGS AND OIL CHANGE REGULARLY. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND WILL TAKE LIVES IF NOT RECALLED. IMAGINE DRIVING ON ICE WITH YOUR KIDS INSIDE AND THEN YOUR STEERING GOES OUT AND THE ENGINE LOSES POWER AND BRAKES.... The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the instrument display indicated a reduced engine power warning message. The contact stated that while driving up a bridge, the vehicle slowed down and failed to accelerate properly while depressing the accelerator pedal. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the accelerator pedal was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer but due to cost, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,595. The vehicle is currently at a Chevrolet dealer for repairs but they can’t get the parts because of the strike.

The oil consumption in the engine for general use is by far way more than average,you don't even get to the" time to change your oil" notice from the vehicle before most of your oil is gone from your motor.The oil light never comes on to inform you of the low oil in the motor but with the low oil engine sensors for cam position light the check engine light and after awhile the vehicle goes into what I would call limp mode with acceleration decreased which would be dangerous at highway speeds if it happened then

The vehicle was taken twice to the local dealer within two years who diagnosed the accelerator pedal sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 10,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle lunged and then started losing motive power with the engine running. The contact attempted to pull off the road however, the vehicle then accelerated independently. The contact stopped the vehicle, turned off and restarted the vehicle and the vehicle lunged forward. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stopped the vehicle and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The local dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the exhaust manifold was cracked and that the oxygen sensors #1 and #2 needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

WE HAVE HAD TO ADD OIL TO VEHICLE AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK SINCE JUST TO MAKE SURE I DIDN'T BREAK DOWN TAKING MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL. WE DID THIS EVERY MONDAY JUST AS PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE MOTOR. FEB 6 ' EVEN AFTER KEEPING OIL IN VEHICLE WEEKLY MY CAR WOULDN'T START THIS MORNING. CHECKED OIL ETC. IT FINALLY STARTED UP LATER THAT DAY AND I WENT TO GET MY STEP DAUGHTERS. WHEN WE GOT READY TO LEAVE AND TRIED TO CRANK CAR IT MADE A LOUD WHINY KIND OF SOUND AND IT SMELLED LIKE WIRES OR SOMETHING BURNING. STEERING LOCKED UP AND IT WOULDN'T TURN OVER AGAIN AND I COULDN'T REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T CRANK BACK. CALLED SOMEONE TO COME. THEY CHECKED BATTERY, FUSES, ETC. I ENDED UP HAVING TO LEAVE MY CAR WHERE IT WAS OVERNIGHT BELIEVING IT WAS AN IGNITION PROBLEM. FEB 7 ' MECHANIC WAS CALLED TO CHECK CAR. REAR MAIN SEALED WAS BUSTED, TIMING CHAIN HAD BROKEN AND SEVERELY DAMAGED ENTIRE MOTOR. ENTIRE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY SHOT AND HAD NUMEROUS BROKEN PIECES! I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO WARRANTY ON THIS AND DEALERSHIP COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH. purchased this car in June 2024.didnt notice it was leaking oil until having oil changed.the mechanic said the engine was dry with not much oil.the mechanic told me the oil pan seal is bad.i checked and it doesn't take a gasket,and the oil pan must be removed and a sealant must be applied rather than a gasket form.this 2012 Chevy equinox ls ,and does not have a gasket form only the sealant.if the engine doesn't have oil the motor could lock up in traffic and cause accident.suspension is noisey like bushings are bad and need lubrication but no where to lubricate.

This vehicle is using insurmountable amount of engine oil.since I purchased the vehicle in 2024 I've had the oil changed once and twice the engine oil was down 3-4 quarts and when I started it,the engine was rattling because of oil disappearing.i purchased this nice looking car for.$5000.,so it's not junk to me it must be fixed.i think GM should be responsible for this problem.

My drivers side wiper blade stopped working while the passenger side is still working. I saw a recall for this linkage on the site but it’s not for my specific VIN. Additionally, my catalytic converter has damage due to excessive oil consumption. Halfway through my regular oil changes the oil is almost completely empty. Again, there’s a recall on this for my specific make, model and year but not for my VIN. I feel these should be covered to be fixed by manufacture due to symptoms equivalent to recall.

The seatbelt tensioner I believe is what is called is broke. I am not sure how it happened but when it was noticed I took it to dealership in the town we were in and he looked up the part for me and explained there was 10 yr kansas seat belt warranty on it. Well come to find out my warranty expired Feb. And no dealership or even GM will help replace it. So if I'm in an accident it will most likely fail. I am a single mom with a special needs child that has to be taken to a specialist 3 hrs away. It is currently being held together by electrical tape but it looks like the wires in the thing failed.

The trailing arm bracket rotten through the frame. This is due to premature rusting/rotting of the frame. Apparently Chevy has had this problem, every I spoke to kept saying "check with Chevy for recall" The dealer tried to fix the problem by (modifying the trailer arm? not sure what that means) but approximately two weeks later it went through the frame again. Took it back to dealer but they were unable to fix this problem and sent me on my way. It was a very good thing that while driving this vehicle nothing major happened. I found a body shop that tackled this and fixed the frame. It was very expensive and I feel Chevy should be responsible. I have attached pictures that the R&M Auto Body gave us.

I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE INTAKE/EXHAUST POSITION ACTUATORS TWICE NOW. FLUTTERING SOUND IN THE ENGINE WHEN CRANKED. NOW I HAVE (4) DIFFERENT CODES 3 OF WHICH PERTAIN TO FUEL PRESSURE REG/SYSTEM RAIL AND THE OTHER ONCE AGAIN FOR THE POSITION ACTUATOR. AND IT RAN FINE BEFORE BEING PARKED IN GARAGE FOR ONLY A COUPLE HOURS, ONCE STARTED IT SHOOK AND VIBRATED VIOLENTLY.

AFTER STARTING VEHICLE AND PUTTING INTO DRIVE, THE ELECTRONICS OF THE CAR SHUT OFF (THE RADIO, AIR CONDITION, SCREEN, POWER STEERING, ETC) AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS RE-STARTED; HOWEVER, THE SAME ISSUE OCCURED SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO A PARKING LOT. THIS VEHICLE EXHIBITS THE EXACT SAME ISSUES NOTED IN BULLETIN #12313B, WHICH AFFECTS THE 2010 AND 2011 2.4L EQUINOX. OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS THE ENGINE BECAME INCREASINGLY LOUDER. A LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL WAS DISCOVERED IN THE CRANKCASE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIMING CHAIN ASSEMBLY AND THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AS OUTLINED IN BULLETIN #12313B, BUT THE 2012 MODEL YEAR IS NOT INCLUDED UNDER THE SPECIAL COVERAGE OF 10 YEARS, 120K MILES, AS OUTLINED IN THE BULLETIN. THIS SPECIAL COVERAGE SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO LATER MODEL CHEVROLET EQUINOX 2.4L ENGINES. THE COVERAGE IS A NECESSITY DUE TO THE WEAR THAT HAS OCCURRED FROM FUEL BEING IN THE OIL.

I WENT TO SLOW DOWN MY VEHICLE TO EXIT OFF OF FREEWAY. UPON TOUCHING THE BRAKE, THE CARE ACCELERATED AND STCU UNTIL I HIT THE BRAKE. I PHONED GM VIA ONSTAR AS THIS SCARED ME. I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE HOWEVER I STILL WANTED IT DOCUMENTED. THIS PAST WEEK, JULY 28TH 2014, I ONCE AGAIN WAS TRAVELING AND WENT TO SLOW DOWN TO TAKE OFF CRUISE CONTROL AND MY RPM'S JUMPED AND STUCK AT 6-7. 2012 Chevrolet equinox burns/leaks oil which cause the serpentine belt to pop off & I had to replace it. Having problems with the MAT & IAT codes, just replaced the fuel pump, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, & spark plugs... Car still will not crank. They're saying there's no recall but why are all the Chevrolet equinox malfunctioning with the same problems with no help from the manufacturer?

The underbody of my 2012 Equinox is completely rusted and now not drivable. The KFrame is rotten and the car is not safe to drive. The engine consumes a great amount of oil. I've been told the engine needs to be replaced. I've only had the car for 2 years.

I own a 2012 Chevy equinox 2.4 eco-tech all wheel drive I purchased it three years ago and a little over 90,000 miles on it asked the dealer if it was part of the class action oil consumption lawsuit. They said they knew nothing about it Shortly after I purchased vehicle I noticed I was having to add to 4 quarts of oil every two months I saw oil puddles under my car and not sure where it was coming from. I have driven less than 10,000 miles in three years and have had my serpentine belt snap off due to excessive oil leakage , I have added myself to the class action lawsuit but I’ve heard nothing. I am still adding at least 3 quarts of oil a month and I don’t even drive 400 miles a month. I believe this is putting my life in Jeopardy and passengers in my car. There is never been a check oil light come on yet. I have checked my oil and it has been almost completely bone dry..

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that her husband discovered that the timing chain had failed. In addition, there was an excessive consumption of oil causing the contact to add engine oil frequently. The engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced but no further diagnosis was available for the other failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

My 2012 chevy equinox lt had had nothing but issues with the timing chain the oil consumption where it hardly wants to start I have only had this used vehicle for 6 months or less I shouldn’t be having all these problems with it! The tailpipe isn’t smoking out white clouds but when you put your hand over it it leaves black oil gas smelling grunge on your hand! This is the second equinox I have owed in less than 1 year and it should not be costing me a fortune in repairs within a year even though it’s used makes no sense to me why chevy allows this to happen!!!

THE CAR CONSUMES OIL AT A FASTER THAN NORMAL RATE AND HAS REQUIRED FREQUENT OIL CHANGES AND FILTER AND HAS NEVER DISPLAYED AN ENGINE OR OIL LIGHT TO INFORM ME OF THE ISSUES. THE CAR SHUTS OFF WHILE IN MOTION AND STATIONARY QUITE FREQUENTLY. THE CAR STRUGGLED TO START ONE DAY AND AFTER MY THIRD ATTEMPT FINALLY TURNED OVER BUT ONLY AT HALF POWER AND WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE BACK HOME, THE ENGINE COLLAPSED AND QUIT ON ME. THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR THEN APPEARED ON THE DASH BOARD. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, WHEN I WENT TO STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR, I HAD NO POWER. THE ACCELERATOR WAS PUSHED TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS GOING ABOUT 5 MILES AND HOUR. ALL THE ABOVE WAS STILL HAPPENING ON THE DASHBOARD. THE AC WAS NOW BLOWING WARM AIR. AFTER 36K MILES, THE CAR STEERING WOULD STICK AND SLIP. PA DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE AS THIS WOULD HAPPEN AT HIGHER SPEED 65MPH. BUT, UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING RACK DUE TO A TECHNICAL BULLETIN REPORT ABOUT STEERING STICKING/SLIPPING. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY AND CAME BACK AFTER 36K MORE MILES ON THE NEW STEERING RACK. CAR IS AT VA DEALER TODAY FOR DIAGNOSTIC TEST AS I MOVED. CAR ALSO HESITATES AND JERKS BACK WHEN ACCELERATING AND HAS DONE THAT SINCE A YEAR AFTER OWNED VEHICLE. IN JULY OF THIS YEAR, IT WAS A 100 DEGREE DAY IN CHARLESTON, AND MY WIFE HAD OUR 2 YEARS OLD DAUGHTER IN HER CAR SEAT. MY WIFE HAD THE AIRCONDITIONING ON, AND THE CAR RUNNING, AND SHE CHECKED THE MAIL, FOR SOME REASON, THE LOCKS ON THE DOORS ENGAGED, AND MY DAUGHTER WAS LOCKED IN THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER, AND I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE. THEY HAD MY VEHICLE FOR OVER A WEEK. THEY RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO ME AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD REDONE ALL THE WIRING AND THAT IT SHOULD ALL BE FIXED, AND IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. THEN AS FATE WOULD HAVE IT, OUR REAR VIEW CAMERA STARTED GOING IN AND OUT RANDOMLY, BUT WE DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT, THEN SURE ENOUGH, ONCE AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER, I HAD MY DAUGHTER OUT TO LUNCH, I PLACED HER IN HER SEAT, STRAPPED HER IN, AND LAID THE KEYS DOWN NEXT TO HER, THE DOORS WERE ALL UNLOCKED, I CLOSED THE BACK DOOR, WENT TO OPEN THE FRONT DOOR, AND THE LOCKS ENGAGED ONCE AGAIN. THIS TIME THE AC WAS NOT RUNNING. MY WIFE HAD A KEY BUT WAS ABOUT 45 MIN AWAY. THIS TIME, THE BABY WAS IN THERE FOR OVER HALF AN HOUR, AND WAS A HYSTERICAL MESS. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER AGAIN, OBVIOUSLY MUCH MORE UPSET THIS TIME, AND ASKED THEM TO EXPLAIN WHAT WAS GOING ON. THEY HAD NO ANSWER AND ASKED ME TO BRING IT IN AGAIN. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN, THEY HAD IT FOR OVER 2 WEEKS AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD RESET EVERYTHING TO FACTORY SPECS, AND GIVEN ME 2 NEW KEY FOBS, AS THEY THOUGHT THE FOBS MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSING THE ISSUE. I GOT THE CAR BACK AND WITHIN AN HOUR, OF GETTING THE CAR BACK, THE CAMERA WENT OUT ON THE DASHBOARD.I CALLED THE SALES MANAGER AGAIN, AND HE CAME AND PICKED THE VEHICLE UP. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *SMD A MONTH AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS SLUGGISH, AS THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY. THE NEXT OCCURRENCE HAPPENED ON JANUARY 2, 2013. THE CONSUMER STATED BEFORE SHE COULD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON ITS OWN, AS IF SHE HIT A STONE WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL, WHEN SLOWING DOWN. THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END. THE DEALER CALLED THE CONSUMER TO LET HER KNOW, THEY ORDERED SOME BOLTS, SO THEY COULD BE BOLTED TO THE FRAME. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, WHILE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET, THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKE, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, I THEN APPLIED THE GAS TO GO AROUND A CORNER. UPON APPLYING THE GAS, THE ENGINE REVVED UP MUCH FASTER THAN IT WOULD NORMALLY. I QUICKLY APPLIED THE BRAKES, AND STOPPED FORWARD MOVEMENT. HOWEVER,THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO "REV". I PUT THE GEAR IN "NEUTRAL" AND THEN "PARK", THE MOTOR CONTINUING TO "REV". I DROVE ABOUT 50 FT TO THE TOP OF THE HILL, PUT THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL, THEN PARK, AND THEN SHUT THE MOTOR OFF. I LET THE CAR SIT ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND STARTED THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE "REVVED" AS BEFORE SO I DID THE NEUTRAL, PARK, ENGINE OFF SEQUENCE AGAIN AND WAITED ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO START THE ENGINE. SAME PROBLEM. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE THIS TIME, HOWEVER, I WAITED ABOUT 4 OR 5 MINUTES TO START THE ENGINE. THIS TIME THE ENGINE SPEED WAS NORMAL SO I DROVE HOME. THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED SPORADICALLY AND WAS CONCERNED WITH THE PLACEMENT OF THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH, STATING THAT THE COMPONENT WAS POSITIONED AWKWARDLY ON THE STEERING WHEEL WHERE HIS HANDS WERE.
