The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH, the vehicle vibrated and idled abnormally. The contact depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle jumped unintendedly. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact continued to drive to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the timing chain had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The independent mechanic advised the contact not to drive the vehicle. The failure became a recurring failure, and the contact parked the vehicle, and the vehicle was no longer driven due to safety concerns. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

oil consumption is bad. according to mechanic it has now caused problems with timing chain and tensioner. I have to get that replaced ASAP before engine ties up. There is a class action lawsuit in Missouri for same reason with cars like mine. My car has not even hit 114,000.

The concern is the oil consumption. The car looses a quart of oil a month. I average only 620 miles per month. There is no leak. A mechanic has been keeping track of it every month since April 2025. No warning lights alerted me of the problem. This has been an ongoing problem with the Chevy Equinox. My last one had the same problem but it was fixed thru a recall. It is frustrating for me to have to bring my car in every month to have it checked, because I am a caregiver for my husband and its hard for me to get away. I also use the car for his doctor appointments. I need a dependable car and can't afford a different one.

I was driving my vehicle on the highway when all of a sudden I started to lose speed and my car wouldn’t accelerate. When my vehicle wouldn’t accelerate it started to shake significantly and the check engine, abs, traction control, and service stabilitrak light came on all at once. I was able to pull over and get my car towed to the dealership. Once it was at the dealership it was diagnosed that my car had jumped time causing a misfire in cylinder 4. My dealership stated this was due to low oil and my piston had become warped due to making contact with my valve. My car had no check oil warnings or any indication that vehicle was low on oil prior to this happening. My vehicle drove perfectly fine until that point. My vehicle also had no oil leaks (confirmed by myself not seeing any leaks under my vehicle as well as the dealership when they did the diagnostics). Before I bought my vehicle I did research and knew this model vehicle had oil consumption issues, so I made sure to routinely check my oil levels. Even with getting oil changes approximately every 3,000 miles and checking my oil levels and topping off my oil whenever it got less then 5 quarts I still had to get a total engine replacement. This was a huge safely issue since there was no warning that my oil was low and my car lost speed on the highway and was trying to stall out before I had a chance to pull off to safe place.

When I was driving home from the grocery store a very heavy thunderstorm started I turned my wipers off because of the sudden rain just to realize that they were not working. I had to pull over because I couldn’t see. Causing me to almost get rear ended with my 6 month old, 18 month old and 6 year old I was finally able to start driving 45 minutes later when the rain stopped. Front wipers stop working in the middle of a rain storm while driving down the highway we were unable to see anything(road/cars)out of the window. We had to put on flashers and stick head out of a rolled down window to (which with rain slapping you in the face is not safe either) try and get to a shoulder on the highway safely. My hubby and I were terrified and thought we were going to die or cause harm to others on the highway. After rain slowed down we got home very slowly with hazard light running. Once home I searched the web for problems that could have caused the wipers to suddenly stop. Results were to check fuses and relays (all checked out fine). I read that it could be a bushing on linkage arm that came off. Husband and I took off wipers and the cowl and sure enough linkage arm bushing had popped off of the ball joint. We tried to replace old bushing with a new one and put everything back together as it was taken off. Turned on wipers and it popped right back off. My car is now sitting in the yard unusable because I can not safely (for my family or other families out there) go any where because it is raining/will rain. There were no warnings or messages nothing they just stopped moving. One of the most scariest things in our lives, so glad our kids and grandson was not with us when it happened and that by the grace of God my husband and I made it home safely. This is very dangerous. It is also not uncommon due to information/videos on the internet. Please help correct this dangerous issue. Car is available for inspection any time Thank you

While driving on the highway, it was barely raining so I turned my wipers on low and about 5 minutes into my drive the rain picked up, and I tried to turn my wipers up at which point the stopped working altogether. I had to pull off on the shoulder and wait for the rain to end, which was about 20 minutes later. Afterwards I proceeded to the nearest gas station and purchased a squeegee to use while I was driving since cars were kicking up rain from the wet ground. Having wipers abruptly stop while it is raining heavily and traveling at 55 mph is beyond dangerous. I see all of the complaints online and a recall should and needs to be issued, as this issue could have and still can caused a tragic accident.

component- windshield wipers available for inspection-yes How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was driving in light rain at first, turned on the windshield wipers on low. Slowed for a service vehicle and the rain became heavy so I moved the selector to high on the second or third pass across the windshield they quit, I could not see anything. I had to roll down my window and stick my head out to see so I could get off the road. I had to wait for the rain to stop before I could move. I first checked the fuses, it was fine. I can hear the wiper motor working. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Not yet Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No got the car home before the next rain Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No absolutely no warning

The wipers quit working while I was driving in a thunderstorm. Safety was definitely a risk as I was on a major highway. I pulled over and waited for rain to stop and made it to an auto parts store to replace fuse. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the issue. The recall does not include 2016 equinox. I don’t understand why it’s not included.

Rear main seal blew due to freezing condensation in the pcv valve. The vehicle is at the dealership but can be available for inspection. This happened in an isolated area, when temperatures were below -15 degrees with the windchill. The vehicle started leaking oil and was not drivable, so me and my elderly mother were broke down on the side of the road in freezing temperatures! The problem have been verified by a transmission shop as well as a GM certified dealership. The vehicle has been inspected by a transmission shop, as well as a GM dealership, and a 3rd party investigator from my extended warranty company. There were no warning lights or indications prior to the vehicle starting to pour oil out from underneath it!

Make: Chevy ---- Model: Equinox ----- Year: 2016 ----- Mileage: Just under 78,000 miles ----- Component or system: Rear main seal failed leaking nearly all the oil left in the vehicle over the course of a few minutes of driving, which also left a dinner sized plate of oil underneath the car after parking in my garage. ----- Available upon request: Incident occurred 1/14/2025, with diagnosis from dealer on 1/15/2025. As of this moment the vehicle is still available and is being held by the mechanic while I decide on next course of action (repair or scrap). ----- How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I luckily made it home before all of the oil had depleted but this could have caused engine damage and failure while driving. The repair shop noted they did not notice any signs of engine damage but they are worried that engine damage may have occurred. There is no warning on the dash or computer related to the seal breaking or oil being almost entirely depleted. ----- Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? It was brought in to a local repair shop who I personally trust which also has a 4.8 stars with 700 ratings on google. They degreased the car due to the oil everywhere and noted the rear main seal on the car had a massive leak and the car is non-operable in this condition. ----- Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Vehicle has only been inspected by the dealer mentioned above. ----- Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There is no warning or check engine light on the dash or computer related to the seal breaking or oil being almost entirely depleted.

The timing chain has to be replaced and I'd like to know why there hasn't been a recall on the equinox because they are notoriously known for going out on them on models from 2010 and up I had no idea about this when I purchased this vehicle I normally only purchase Chevy but I'm gonna have rethink that if your not willing to stand behind your product

After the car is parked, the gears will not allow shifting, they are jammed, the vehicle can not move. This has been happening on and off and started in 2022. Our son, is a new driver and he has been stranded in locations for over 2 hours unable to put the car in gear. This problem has been confirmed by a Chevrolet dealership and we were quoted approximately $2,000 to have this part completely replaced. In addition, we have had several mechanics attempt to fix this unsuccessfully. This happens on occasion, but continues to happen enough and prohibit us from driving longer distances. This is a safety concern, as it will take up to 3 hours or longer to get the gears to shift. The vehicle will turn on, the main problem is that we are unable to shift and get out of park.

Coming home from a trip without any warning our 2016 equinox scared me when it made a terrible sound lost power and stopped working. We’re 100’s miles away from home on the side of a road in the dark. We called for towing to a dealer payed for a hotel waited till the next day for it to be looked at. Told the engine was blown that the timing belt and everything in there was bent and in pieces 10,000-12,000 dollars to replace. Mind you this car is a ltz and very well talking care of. Without fixing it it’s worth 1000.00. Shame on gmc we should have been notified about issues. This happens at 80,000miles No warranty. I actually thought it caught on fire. Gm step up and take care of your life long customer that have owned Chevy always.

Driving vehicle on two days 1/21-1/22/25 both days had a high of zero degrees, vehicle say for 4 hours at work outside and then was driven the 1 mile home. As pulling down my street car started running rough. Pulled into my garage looked and there was a oil steak up my driveway . My wife called me and when I got home I looked under car and looked like several quarts of oil on floor under car. She said no warning lights came on. I had it towed the next day to a local garage. He inspected the vehicle and said rear seal was blown and that there is knock in engine , so basically shot. We bought the car new in 2016 and it has less the. 90k miles. I contacted Chevy and they said nothing is out about that year. I contacted local Chevy dealer and was told this is a known pvc freeze issue with equinoxes and this engine but it has not been recalled. There is a Chevy bulliten about this issue that is the same engine but the bulliten covers 2010-1014. This is the same exact issue in the same exact engine. On my hat service bulliten they have increased the warranty to 10year 100k and are covering the repairs. But they will do nothing and ignore the issue on every other vehicle with this engine and this flaw. Lucky my wife made it home safe I am having the car towed to a Chevy dealership and am prepared to leave it there and demand it gets fixed.

My car blew out the rear main oil seal due to a faulty pcv valve that froze over in zero degree weather. The car lost all of its engine oil. There were no engine warning lights on before or after this happened. It has been diagnosed at the used dealer ship I got the vehicle from. It's currently at the shop but can be inspected if need be. My personal safety was at risk because it happened on the way to work and could have left me stranded. I also have had to rent a car for the last few weeks due to this issue. The car showed no warning signs of having prior issues of any sort before this happened.

My 2016 Chevy Equinox started running rough and when the codes were run it came back with P0335, P0016 and P0017. We then replaced both the camshaft, crankshaft and vvt solenoids. The codes were then cleared, and no further issues or engine lights were on. Then I brought the car home the weather was extremely cold, and the vehicle would not start. Tried to jump the vehicle would not start. Towed the vehicle to the shop, where it was determined that the PVC was frozen which caused all the oil to drain from the engine, the timing belt seized up and caused total engine failure. The mechanic has stated that it needs a whole new engine as all the oil had drained from the vehicle and cause damage that cannot be repaired. These vehicles have faulty piston rings in them and also it is common for the vehicles to be useless and have to have a total engine replacement. The cost for the engine replacement and vehicle repair is 9000 to 11000 dollars. Chevy intentionally has been mass producing vehicles that can and will kill someone. This is a known issue that they need to make right for all the owners of these vehicles. Please do a full investigation as to why these vehicles are still on the road and Chevy has not been made to recall and fix these vehicles correctly.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the weight sensor on the front passenger’s seat had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that his vehicle had been involved in two accidents and that the airbags failed to deploy as needed in both accidents. In the first accident, the contact stated that while driving at a low rate of speed, a tree had fallen right in front of his vehicle. The contact was not able to stop the vehicle in time which caused him to run over the tree. The contact stated that the airbags did not deploy. The contact did not suffer any injuries and a police report was not filed. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer where they repaired the damage to the vehicle. The second failure occurred while the contact was at a stoplight and another vehicle on the opposite side of traffic had hit his vehicle's driver side at a high rate of speed. The air bags again did not deploy upon impact. The contact and his wife were both taken to the hospital where he was treated for whiplash to his neck and arms. After months of chronic pain, the contact also had back surgery. The contact's wife was treated for injuries to her left knee and stomach, as well as whiplash to her neck. A police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was towed to an independent body shop for repair. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

When temperatures were around 0 degrees, I was driving to work and I started hearing a noise and the car was shaking. I oil all over the ground and checked the oil once parked, the dip stick had no oil and there was white foam under the oil cap. This issue could've cause me to lose control of my vehicle while driving, putting myself and anyone around me at risk. I had the vehicle towed to a dealership where they found out that the rear main seal failed. They replaced the rear main seal along with the front main seal and sent me on my way. I had no issues for the next month, but the weather went back below 0 degrees and the same issue happened again, this time there was ice found in the intake manifold. This repair is being completed now. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than the dealership. No warning light, messages or any other symptoms were present prior to the failure. The engine light DID NOT turn on when the seal "blew" but did turn on after turning the car off and back on.

I'm aware of the history of oil consumption issues with Equinoxs, as this is my third one, but I am told by the mechanic who did the oil change that there are no leaks, yet there 8 day later, after the oil change has been preformed, there is absolutely no oil on the dip stick. I just bought this car from Showcase Auto Sales, in Chesaning, MI and they will not take it back, as they sell them as is. There was no oil then either.

Oil burns at an alarming rate, no low oil warning. Engine blew up & was rebuilt. A month after engine rebuild, vehicle started to throw the same codes that led to engine failure. I can't keep oil in my vehicle, it has stalled numerous times on busy highway & once at an intersection with my kids in the vehicle. O2 sensors keep frying, catalytic converters keep clogging. Faulty rear main seal valve. Oil is leaking into combustion chamber which has caused manifold issues, spark plugs keep frying. Engine constantly misfires. Frequent engine knocking. My vehicle also seems to have no low oil warning light either. I remember getting an oil change, roughly a month in a half later i checked it again and my dip stick was bone dry. Chevy is aware of defects, but they refuse to do anything for the thousands of customers who have complained about the same exact things I am. There are numerous lawsuits for this exact issue, unfortunately not in my state. The value of my vehicle has dropped substantially to the point I am now upside down with my loan. I've looked into trading it in and my highest offer was $1,500 because of the issues that have been reported. There are so many people dealing with this same exact problem and we are all being ignored. I can't even go trade my vehicle in for something that will actually run without me having to dump hundreds of dollars into it every few months. Not only that, but these defects are extremely dangerous! My vehicle completely shut off while i was driving roughly 60-65mph in crazy/speeding traffic in the middle of rush hour & I had my two little girls with me. When help finally arrived, it was discovered that yet again, there was no oil in my vehicle even though I added roughly 2.5 quarts within a month in a half of this incident occurring. My vehicle over heated... this is absolutely uncalled for and isnt something that happens because of owners negligence. Someone please help!!!

During my recent travel after a few short miles, oil began to leak and the engine began to knock. After the engine stalled, I was able to restart and begin to drive around 20 miles per hour when the engine stalled and cut off again as I was on my way to the repair shop. I noticed during this time that the car was leaking oil. The following was revealed after receiving a diagnostic test performed by the repair shop that the engine suffers from internal damage/massive oil leak and it is not recommended attempting to repair. Repairs are estimated to be due more than $6K without guarantee that the vehicle will not repeat the same problematic performance. Upon some investigation, it has been revealed that my vehicle is among the many 2014-2017 Chevy Equinox models that are plagued with the same 2.4L engine/oil consumption defect. Coupled with the fact that these vehicles are extremely dangerous as there is no set warning when itay choose to stop working during operation, therefore running the risk of causing a catastrophic accident/s. The failure mileage was at 126,277.

I was driving the vehicle from Madison, WI to Janesville, WI on the interstate. The car was operating normally until about 35 minutes into my drive. I heard unusual noises coming from the vehicle and I started to feel more resistance then normal while accelerating. I checked the dash for any indicator lights or high temperature but nothing was indicated. I exited the interstate and noticed the car was not accelerating normally. While stopped at a stop light the vehicle stalled, but powered back on after restarting. About a mile up the road the vehicle stalled again, but again restarted. I was less than a mile from my destination. After parking the vehicle at my destination, oil was observed gushing out from above the real driver's side wheel well. The vehicle had an odor. It was determined an intake value burst causing an oil leak. After the intake valve was repaired it was determined a chain snapped in the engine, and the engine was also in need of repair. The intake valve has been retained. The vehicle stalled while in use multiple times putting me and my family at risk for an accident. Had a dashboard indicator light illuminated, I would have immediately pulled over. Yes the problem was confirmed but a dealer that inspected the vehicle.

Snowy conditions. All of the traction control, stabilitrak, and abs systems are working normally. Sometimes when i accelerate and the wheels start to spin the whole infotainment console turns off. Its almost like the battery is dead for a few seconds then everything turns back on.

THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST. THIS HAPPENED ON A VERY HOT AND SUNNY SUMMER DAY. THE WINDOWS WERE ROLLED DOWN AND THE A/C WAS OFF. THE RADIO STARTED TO LOOP A SONG THAT WAS PLAYING. I WAS UNABLE TO MUTE IT, TURN IT DOWN, AND TURN IT OFF. THE INFOTAINMENT BUTTONS WERE DOING NOTHING. I TURNED ON THE A/C AND THE INTERIOR COOLED DOWN. THE RADIO FUNCTIONED AS NORMAL ONCE IT WAS COLD. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST AS WELL. ONE TIME, IT WAS DURING WINTER AND THE HEAT WAS ON. THE RADIO MALFUNCTIONED. THE HEAT WAS TURNED OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL.

The contact stated that two weeks after the vehicle was purchased, while the vehicle was being serviced, the contact was informed that the engine was very low on oil. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that an oil change was performed on the vehicle. Two weeks later, the contact took the vehicle back to be checked and was informed that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. However, no cause for the failure was found. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact had to check the oil level weekly. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that one and a half quarts of oil needed to be added every two days. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed and it was determined that the failure was caused by the timing belt sagging, and the piston being burned. The dealer stated that the gasket kit, timing chain, tensioner, sensor, guards, actuator, and bolts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and filed a claim. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.

The vehicle was taken to the local service center who discovered that the engine oil was extremely low. Engine oil was added to the engine however, after retrieving the vehicle the contact discovered that engine oil had leaked from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

Every single time I go for an oil change, my oil is empty, even though I go early. One time I went to my place and they refused to do in oil change because it is dry and I had to go buy oil and put it in before they would change it. This car burns oil quicker than I burn gas. I’m very concerned because there were a couple times where there was no oil and I now stop in mid oil change for top offs and come in a few hundred miles before I was out. The dates below are for now but this is insane and has been going on a very, vary long time.

My equinox has only 70,000 miles and they found ground bearings in the transfer case and it cost me $2000 to fix they said this was an unusual repair to report it

Engine lost power while exiting highway. Engine noise and loss of oil and oil pressure. Glided car into repair shop off the highway exit. Repair facility was aware of the GM 2.4 liter frozen PCV valve issue. Car was taken to a Chevrolet dealership where a fix with no guarantee that the engine was good was over $3000.00 to repair. Suggested new engine at approx. $9000.00 was quoted. This is a safety issue as the problem occurs in very cold weather and when the engine stops, it can very well leave the occupants stranded in freezing weather.

While on the freeway, I was caught in “stop-and-go” traffic. I had previously (about 2 days) noticed that there was a very minuscule delay in between the time from when I pressed on the accelerator to when the car would speed up, but was less than 1 second, so didn’t think it was a big deal. During the traffic incident, all of the sudden, when I pressed on the accelerator to go from a mostly stopped position to advance forward, my Equinox completely stalled. It was like someone turned the car off, but still had the lights and stereo on. I had to put my car in park, turn the car totally off, and restart it, and place it into drive, in order for it to advance forward. The next time I had to slow down for traffic, I slowed almost to a stop, put my foot on the accelerator, and the car stalled again. Keep in mind, my car wasn’t completely stopped at any of these times, so the cars behind me were caught off guard when I had to suddenly stop, put my car in park, turn it off, and then back on again, in order to move forward. This is dangerous during rush hour, on the most congested freeway in my state (which is where I live and was located). I was almost rear-ended multiple times. This occurred around 20 times before I could pull to the side. I called Chevrolet and they directed me the nearest dealership. The problem was continuous until I arrived. The issue was: Intake Camshaft Solenoid Control Circuit - Solenoid Internal Failure and they replaced Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Solenoid (part #12679099). My car had 46,661 miles, and under warranty, but it appears to be a common problem. There were ZERO warning/dash lights that warned me that something was wrong, and when the car died, I only knew because I would push the accelerator and it wouldn’t move. The dealership confirmed the issue, and I have the receipt from the replacement (covered under warranty), as well as a video of it occurring. There are MANY forums that discuss this issue with 2016 Equinox models.

The 2016 Equinox is not keeping oil in the engine. Therefore, the engine is unsafe and extremely dangerous - there is no warning! It will just stop in traffic! Life threatening to driver, passengers and other vehicles on the road.

I was driving home from work, all of sudden all the dash borad lights started flashing and the car stop. engine would not start back up. I had to have the car towed home and the next day it was towed to the dealership, I was told that there is a problems with the Chev Equinox's oil use, it burns fast and make the plastic parts in the engine break down. I was told that i will need timing chain and pitston replaced or new engine. i filed a complaint with GMC and they said that they don;t know of any problems with the type of car engine that i have. GMC said they will pay $600, toward cost of my repairs about $6500. dollars.

Some previous background on my 2016 Chevy Equinox that I bought brand new: - I brought in my car about 6 months ago to get it repaired for an engine seal issue. This set me back about $3,200. I thought the issue was fixed, but I think it's related to the current issue I'm now having. - I had a minor incident where the windshield wiper flew off in the middle of the street and have seen a few complaints about that, so thought it was noteworthy enough to mention. Now, the car has 100,000 miles on it and the engine light came on again. I brought it in a few days ago (10/18/22) and the mechanics said that I had a "bad" engine and that the car's issue was excessive oil consumption. They quoted the repair at $11,000 (which I have found quotes that are lower since, but not by much). The KBB value of the car is just under $10,000. Considering the repair earlier this year, the car has cost me more than it's worth by far. The car is only 5-6 years old and only has 100,000 miles on it! I'm seeing the same make/model have recalls and several issues with the engine seals and the excessive engine oil consumption. I know that my car falls under this as well, but has not received any warranty or any recalls yet. I can't afford a new car or a fix on the current car since the issue is massive and requires a new engine. If TONS of other people are having the same issue(s) (over 1000 complaints), then why are consumers not being reimbursed? It looks like there are only lawsuits for this out there that are being handled at the consumer-level (which I cannot afford an attorney for this either). Now, I'm having to put oil in my car constantly in order to drive it. I'm worried it's putting me in danger (and anyone else on the road). I've been reading that once it gets cold outside (which it is already getting down to 32F at night), it's likely that the seals are going to break again and cause the engine to fail.

THE TIMING BELT ON MY ENGINE WENT OUT RESULTING IN MY VEHICLE DYING WHENEVER MY CAR IDLED LOW. IF I DIDN?T CONSTANTLY GIVE IT SOME GAS, THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF. THIS WOULD HAPPEN AT RED LIGHTS AND STOP SIGN WHERE I COULDN?T GIVE THE CAR GAS, SO I?D END UP STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WITH INCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAD TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED AND TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS (ONE AT A CHEVY DEALERSHIP) SAID THAT TIMING BELTS ARE AN ISSUE WITH CHEVY EQUINOX. THIS WAS THE VERY FIRST REPAIR I NEEDED DONE ON MY CAR AND AT ONLY 77,000 MILES. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID I?D MOST LIKELY ONLY GET ANOTHER 50,000 MILES OUT OF THE ENGINE. THAT WOULD BE SHORT OF 130,000 MILES. I THINK IF TIMING BELTS ARE SUCH AND ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE THEN THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THEM.

My son was driving when the steering "locked" into one position which caused him to leave the interstate, cross the median, across oncoming traffic and roll the vehicle three times. He suffered a lower back injury and his passenger only encountered minor cuts. We were not aware of any issues at the time. We did not have the vehicle inspected after the crash. No warnings or prior warnings were displayed by the car.

WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL AREA AND MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IN THE RIGHT HAND POSITION. TO AVOID A CRASH, I QUICKLY TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT. THIS OCCURRED TWO TIMES PRIOR , DURING THE COURSE OF A YEAR OF OWNING THE CAR. WHEN IT OCCURRED THE FIRST TIME, I JUST ASSUMED I SLIPPED ON A PIECE OF ICE THAT WAS LEFT OVER FROM A STORM. HOWEVER, ON THE THIRD TIME, AS I TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, MY KEY CHAIN BROKE OFF FROM THE KEY FOB AND THE REMAINDER OF KEYS ON THE KEY CHAIN. (I HAD MULTIPLE KEY RINGS, SHOPPING REWARD FOBS, ETC ON KEYCHAIN). WHAT WAS LEFT WAS A SMALL PORTION OF THE KEY LEFT STUCK INSIDE THE IGNITION. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. In Feb 2025, I was driving, a day after a snow storm, on the highway when without warning my car stopped accelerating, and just shut down. The mechanic said my oil was all over the ground. He also stated that there's a defect in the 2.4l ecotec motors and the pistons broke on my vehicle. Now I have to pay $3500 to rebuild my motor. My car is a 2016 chevy equinox - the check engine light never came on and I was driving it home from the store when it started bucking, showing "power to engine low" error message and barely moved when pressing the gas. I got the car home and my husband was checking the car only to find I have no oil when I never received any warning. I have done research and have seen this is an issue for many chevy equinox owners who all experienced this with their cars. I just had an oil change completed a few months ago in early Sept/Late August with very minimal driving in the 4 month window as I was out of work for 2 of those months. I do believe this is a defect in the car due to the fact that I was out of oil so quickly PLUS no alert informing me that the oil was low prior to the issue with the vehicle. now it will not start and the engine appears to be trash now.

My 2016 Chevrolet Equinox caught on fire about 10 minutes after my accident. I rear ended a pickup truck going about 5-10 miles an hour. Although nobody was hurt, I don't think SUVs should catch on fire. I'm unaware if this problem is frequent in 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, but there wasn't any warning of the sudden fire that appeared from the engine, i.e. sirens, sounds from within the car. I'm unaware if Chevrolet, law enforcement or the insurance company has inspected the vehicle after the accident?

It doesn't make sense how much oil this thing burns. We just had the oil changed last month and prior to that we've replaced the solenoids. Why in heavens did this vehicle stall out yesterday when my husband was driving on the highway saying engine power reduced. This vehicle is costing a fortune. There is truly something wrong with these engines! This could have cause a major crash. Thank goodness no one got hurt.

IN THAT 3 YEARS WE HAVE HAD 9 FLAT TIRES AND ALL OF THEM HAVE HAD ROCKS IN THEM AND MOST OF THEM WE HAVE HAD TO GET NEW TIRES BECAUSE THIS ROAD IS SO BAD AND THEY COULD NOT PLUG OR PATCH THEM.MY HUSBAND WORKS FOR ESCAVATING COMPANY FOR 28 YEARS AND ISINCE WE HAVE LIVED HERE THEY HAVE NEVER GRADED THIS ROAD! I HAVE SENT SO MANY COMPLAINTS AND HAVE EVEN CALLED AND TALKED WITH VDOT AND HAVE NEVER GOTTEN ANYWHERE. I HAVE A BRAND NEW 2016 SUV WITH 13,000 MILES ON IT AND IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS HAVE HAD TO GET 2 BRAND NEW TIRES. I FILED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A CLAIM ALREADY BUT IT WAS JUST A ROAD COMPLAINT AND GOT A CALL FROM MIKE BAILY AND WHEN I WENT INTO DETAIL ABOUT MY COMPLAINT AND THAT I WAS GETTING A LAWYER AND I WAS TIRED OF THESE ROAD CONDITIONS THE VERY NEXT DAY THEY CAME OUT AND ACTUALLY GRADED THE ROAD INSTEAD OF JUST THROWING STONE DOWN ON ITT LIKE THEY USUALLY DO. THE WASHBOARDS WERE SO BAD YOU LITERALLY HAD TO DRIVE 5 MPH AND STILL YOU ABOUT WENT INTO THE DITCH WHICH IS DANGEROUS IN ITSELF BECAUSE THE DITCH LINE WAS SO DEEP. What started as my car guzzling just a little too much oil too quickly, turned into my engine sitting at 1200RPM while parked, and then yesterday all the oil had leaked out, oil pressure was very low and the car wouldn’t run, and I’m being told by my mechanic that I need a whole new engine.

I have completed extensive research on my 2016 chevy equinox and it is my understanding this model has ongoing issues with the high pressure fuel pump. However only the newer models have been recalled for the same exact issue. I need to report the same issue with the 2016 models as well. I have never had any major issues with this vehicle until it suddenly started stalling and failing emissions inspections causing a huge monetary set back. I want to file a complaint for Chevy to acknowledge that this is an ongoing issue for not just newer vehicles and address my repairs.

The ambient light sensor is very sensitive. There can be full sunlight, but if I go in the shadow of a truck or a tree, the sensor dims the dashboard lighting. If I go under any sort of bridge, no matter how short, the dash goes dark. Sometimes it takes over 10 minutes for it to go back to normal. The ambient light sensor should be facing straight up at the sky. Also, the sensor should be connected to the vehicles GPS and the clock for the time of day. I rely on the info center on the dash for the GPS and other items. If I cannot see the info center, it can lead to a collision. I have brought my vehicle to the dealer and they refuse to do anything. Also, during the day, I use prescription sunglasses while driving, so it makes it really difficult. Thank you.

The dealer stated that the rear main seal could blow out and cause the vehicle failure. Defective parts that GM is aware of, but not addressing to the owners. There is a service bulletin (14882) that dealers are aware of concerning this issue, for an extended warranty of 120,000 or 10 years, no charge to customers to repair. Part#12591866.crankshaft real oil seal. The dealer refuses to honor it.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact of piston rods failure and that the sensor shutdown the engine. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming excessive amounts of engine oil. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

My vehicle went into "limp mode" in a dangerous intersection due to the garbage design of the PCV. The "valve" is simply a hole that gets clogged by cold climates, and it allows the oil pressure to build up in the crankcase and then without warning, oh boy, my engine had a catastrophic failure and needs to be replaced. Blown rear main seal. There are multiple lawsuits against GM for this. They can't continue to get away with knowing about this flaw and not fix it. I only put 37,000 miles on this car (108K total). Changed the oil myself religiously. I came in, and they told me there was no oil on the dipstick despite the fact that I had just changed the oil 2 days prior.

Purchased vehicle certified pre owned May 2019 with 56,000 miles. In June 2019 replaced front tire that were new due to passenger tire wear also New battery and oil change..Jan 2020 had to have front main seal oil ring replaced. Oil changes done every 3 to 7 thousand miles. Have a 2 sets of tires put on .Have had some hesitation problems throughout while.driving. But never did find cause. Took to chevy dealer on Nov 3rd for windshield wiper motor replacement. Picked up on Nov. 5th. Have had issues with starting since picked up had to carry jump start box in car. Car was parked until I could get a new battery approx 1 week. Put new battery in drove to work for about 2 days still.had issues. Traction stability light had came on never went off. Parked car for another week or so Drove 2 miles down road to store. While driving car was loosing power. Screen went out and engine reduced power light came on and died. Waited about 15 min jump.started .got about 10 feet car went into.Limp mode got it home . Would not start ..got a list of codes. Replaced starter, camshaft and crankshaft sensor, new pcm, valve cover. Amd another battery. Car has not ran since. Motor is blown. Car has been down since Dec. 15th 2021. I have lost my job. Due to not being dependent on getting to work. Have looked into repair cost about 7 to 8 thousand that I cam not afford and still Makin car payments. This is a Manufacture defect and could have been alot worse if I was going any faster or been out in the dark stranded somewhere. Hard to believe a regular maintain vehicle would just die the way it did. Someone or something needs to be done ..Not fair to have to pay over $15000 and still making payments on a lawn ornament. When Chevrolet has none about this issue and refuses to fix. Knowing the engines will blow a rod do to the oil issue ..

I IMMEDIATELY TOO THE VEHICLE TO MONRO MUFFLER AND BRAKE FOR SERVICE. WHEN I ARRIVED, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NO OIL. I PERFORMED REGULAR OIL CHANGES ON THIS VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO INDICATION ABOUT LOW OIL PRESSURE, THE VEHICLE DID NOT OVERHEAT. THE ENGINE NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

INITIALLY THE REAR MAIN SEAL WAS LEAKING OR BROKEN; ALL THE OIL DRAINED FROM THE VEHICLE. AFTER SPENDING $992.60 I WAS ADVISED THAT THE TIMING CHANGE AND GUIDES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I'VE HAD THE VVT CELANIDE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE CRANK AND CAM SHAFT SENSORS; THE VVT GEARS AND AN OIL PUMP REBUILD...$2017.60 LATER, MY TRUCK DROVE FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES WHERE IT DIED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY CAR (ASIDE FROM THE 3 MILES) IN NEARLY 2 MONTHS. NOW I'M BEING TOLD THEY THINK IT MAY BE ELECTRICAL. MY TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE HEARD FROM NUMEROUS GOGGLE SEARCHES THAT GM IS AWARE OF THE ISSUES WITH THIS MOTOR/VEHICLE AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF 4; I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK BRAND NEW TO SAFELY TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE. I HIT A HOLE AND MY PASSENGER FRONT TIRE AND RIM WERE DAMAGED AND I COULD NOT MOVE CAR, HAD CAR TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THE ONLY DAMAGE WAS TO THE WHEEL, RIM AND NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT. TWO DAYS LATER FRONT DRIVERS SIDE MAKING A LOUD NOISE, SHAKING WHEN DRIVING AND NOTICED IT WAS LEAKING A FLUID. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP, RESUBMITTED TO INSURANCE COMPANY. INSURANCE WOULD NOT PAY STAYED WEAR AND TEAR. THEY FOUND PLAY IN FRONT LINKS. NEED TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT STABILIZER LINKS , LEFT FRONT AXLE SEAL LEAKING, REPLACED AXLE SEAL AND AXLE. MY CAR HAD 29000 MILES AND REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND TIRE ROTATION. NOT UNDERSTANDING WHY THIS IS WEAR AND TEAR ESPECIALLY 1 WEEK AFTER BUMPER TO BUMPER EXPIRED AND CAR WAS IN FOR SERVICE AND CHECK TWO WEEKS PRIOR. EITHER CHEVY OR INSURANCE COMPANY IS A FRAUD!!! AUTO GROUP (12625 AUTO MALL DRIVE, MORENO VALLEY, CALIFORNIA 92555, (951) 485-3500) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. AFTERWARDS, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART WHEN PROMPTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TOM BELL CHEVROLET (800 ALABAMA STREET, REDLANDS, CALIFORNIA 92374, (909) 283-0690) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED "LOW VOLTAGE". THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED IN 2016. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES WERE ERASED; THEREFORE, THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE "LOW VOLTAGE" FAILURE READING. ADDITIONALLY, AN ALARM SOUNDED, THE SEAT BELT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGE READINGS WERE INCONCLUSIVE. MY SON WAS IN AN ACCIDENT OCT 26, 2018 @ APPROXIMATELY 7:30 PM.. HE WAS TURNING LEFT ON HIGHWAY RT. 50 IN MT. STORM, WV WITH SIGNAL LIGHT ON TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. A TRUCK DRIVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED FROM BEHIND ATTEMPTED TO PASS HIM ON THE LEFT EVEN THOUGH MY SON WAS ALREADY TURNING LEFT. THE TRUCK HIT DIRECTLY ON HIS FRONT LEFT TIRE BY A VEHICLE DRIVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE FRAME WAS DAMAGED AND WE ARE UNSURE OF ADDITIONAL DAMAGES UNTIL THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER INSPECTS IT. THE SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY RESULTING IN MY SON HITTING THE SIDE WINDOW AND DIAGNOSED WITH CERVICAL SPRAIN. DRIVER WAS DRINKING AND ADMITTED TO DRIVING 65-70 MPH. POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED.

ON OCTOBER 1, MY MOTHER (PASSENGER) AND I WERE INVOLVED IN A ROLL BACK ACCIDENT AT MY APARTMENT COMPLEX. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. I REMAINED OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE FOR 1-2 MINUTES. I RETURNED TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE, OPENED THE DOOR, AND PROCEEDED TO ENTER THE CABIN. UPON OPENING THE DRIVER'S DOOR, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL BACK, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS IN PARK. I WAS CAUGHT BETWEEN THE VEHICLE DOOR, WITH HALF OF MY BODY/EXTREMITIES (THE RIGHT SIDE) IN THE CABIN, AND MY LEFT EXTREMITIES OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS DRAGGED 10-15 FEET. MY MOTHER WAS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WITH HER WITH SAFETY BELT. THE VEHICLE HIT AN EMBANKMENT (WITH A 6-7 FOOT DROP) THAT LEADS TO A GAZEBO THAT COVERS OUR MAILING CENTER. THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE WOODEN FENCING AND THE ROOF AND COLUMNS OF THE GAZEBO. THE FRONT END WAS STUCK IN THE EMBANKMENT; THE REAR END CRASHED INTO THE ROOF, BUT WAS SUSPENDED ABOVE A 6-7 FOOT DROP. POLICE AND FIREMEN ASSESSED THE SITUATION, AND SUSPECTED THAT THE INCIDENT MAY HAVE HAPPENED AS A RESULT OF A MALFUNCTIONING TRANSMISSION AND/OR BREAK SYSTEM. NO FAULT WAS DETERMINED IN THE INCIDENT.

I'M WRITING TO INFORM YOU OF A POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE WITH A 2016 CHEVROLET EQUINOX RENTED FROM ENTERPRISE IN HUNTINGTON STATION, NEW YORK. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 12,022 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE, I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 20-30 MPH IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. AS TRAFFIC SLOWED DOWN AHEAD OF ME I APPLIED THE BRAKES. I WAS IMMEDIATELY SHOCKED WITH DISBELIEF THAT MY VEHICLE SLIGHTLY IMPACTED WITH THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME INSTEAD OF STOPPING 5 OR 10 FEET BEFORE THAT VEHICLE. THE BRAKES DID NOT SEEM TO RESPOND OR FUNCTION EFFECTIVELY COMPARED TO ALL VEHICLES I'VE OWNED OR RENTED FOR OVER 50 YEARS. CONVINCED THAT THERE MUST BE AN UNDERLYING ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL PEP BOYS. THEIR INSPECTION REVEALED "BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR MORE THAN HALF EMPTY" (SEE 2 PAGE ATTACHMENT). I'M NOT SURE IF THERE WAS A SLOW LEAK IN THE LINE OR IF THE BRAKE FLUID HAD NOT BEEN FILLED SUFFICIENTLY. FROM MY 50 YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE I DON'T EVER RECALL A NEW CAR REQUIRING THE ADDITION OF BRAKE FLUID AFTER ONLY 12,022 MILE OF USAGE. I AM HOWEVER FIRMLY CONVINCED THAT THIS UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED IF THE RENTAL VEHICLE HAD CONTAINED THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID. I FELT OBLIGATED TO REPORT THIS POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE TO YOU SO YOU CAN INVESTIGATE IF THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER REPORTED INSTANCES OF BRAKE FLUID LOSS RESULTING IN INEFFECTUAL BRAKING AND SUBSEQUENT ACCIDENTS. *TR
