The brake vacuum pump has went out twice with no warning and has caused my breaks to become instantly extremely stiff.

I was exiting the expressway coming up to the back of a semi truck & the brake became hard to push down. Thankfully I was able to stop in time & didn't rear end the truck. It put me & my [XXX] old in danger had I not been able to apply the force needed to push the brake petal down. No dash alerts appeared until at least 10 min after I noticed the issue. I have a mechanic changing the brake booster. The first part we received was faulty & had to be returned. Currently waiting for another brake booster to come in & attempt another repair. I was driving on the highway and when I exited and tried to stop at a red light the brakes stopped working. No warning, the brake assist engaged so I barely came to a stop in time before hitting the car in front of me. I can barely use the brake pedal and my check engine light came on with it. Its very hard to press the pedal like its got something stuck under the pedal but there was nothing. The brake assist stays on and basically is the only way the car will stop and still doesn't completely stop.

The vacuum pump went out on the car while I was on I-70 in a rain storm construction traffic… I absolutely had no brakes they were so hard to push… I was stuck I almost crashed this crappy designed car… The brake light engine light came on.. I barely made it to the side of the highway… Now my engine is messed up cause of some faulty brake pump… What kinda silly design is this… I could have died out there on that highway.. I was on the way to the airport and I missed my flight… GM needs to get their stuff together on this they’re going to kill somebody….

On or about 2/8-2/13/2025, I was on my way home when suddenly, without warning, I applied my brakes to slow down and the brake pedal was so hard, so stiff that even while I was literally standing on the pedal, I was unable to stop. I nearly rear-ended the vehicle in front of me. I was honking , and honking to get the car to move and thank God without another second to waste, he moved over. I could not stop the car, I had to let off the gas and let it coast to a stop. I called a mechanic friend and he towed my car in. My car is not under warranty any more therefore Alan, my mechanic friend went over my car and determined my Vacuum Brake Booster failed. I did do some research along with the mechanic and found that the Chevy Equinox (several yrs, including mine) had a recall for this same exact problem. I ran my VIN and my car is not included in the recall. The mechanic believes my car should be recalled for the brake system being faulty and he installed the new Vac Brake Booster. Now on 4/12/2025, only 2 months later, the same thing happened, my pedal is hard and I can't stop. The first time I felt like I was going to crash, kill myself or somebody else. The 2nd time I had to exit the roadway where there was only dirt, I ended up nearly flipping my car because the dirt caused me to nearly lose control. Again, I escaped causing a crash but at the risk of my own life by not being able to stop and having to leave the roadway to avoid a collision. I had the same mechanic, along with a family member who is experienced enough to understand what the mechanic showed him. It is the vac brake booster, the same part I just replaced, it failed. Without warnings, without any other factors that can explain what is causing this system to fail. I have not replaced this part again because I believe it is faulty by the GM factory and it will keep happening. I am scared it will continue to cause brake failure and I could potentially cause an accident that could be fatal.

I’ve heard about some recalls and Technical Service Bulletins related to the transmission, especially the start-stop accumulator bolts possibly missing and some transmission lubrication concerns. I checked my VIN on the NHTSA website, and it shows no open recalls. However, I want to confirm: Whether my vehicle was part of any recall related to the transmission or start-stop accumulator bolts. If the recall was completed or if any transmission-related TSBs apply. Whether there are any service campaigns or software updates for the transmission control module that I should be aware of. Start-stop accumulator bolt missing leading to fluid leaks and possible failure, Missing transmission cup plugs causing lubrication issues, Valve body spacer plate replacement and transmission control module reprogramming. I am currently experiencing significant transmission issues including, symptoms like: rough shifting, slipping, hesitation, noises, fluid leaks, loss of power, which are severely affecting the vehicle’s drivability and safety. This vehicle only has 107K miles which only go over 7K from warranty. I am concerned that my vehicle may be affected by one or more of these issues — even if the recall was marked as closed or VIN was excluded in error. Given the volume of known transmission complaints for this model year and my relatively low mileage, I strongly believe this could be part of a broader safety defect that deserves further investigation. Please review this issue for potential inclusion in an investigation or expanded recall campaign. These transmission issues are not only costly but potentially dangerous, especially if they result in sudden loss of propulsion. This transmission issue is seriously impacting my vehicle’s safety and reliability. This matter is urgent due to the impact on vehicle safety and reliability.

When put in drive it does move when gas pedal is pressed for a couple of seconds, and also when I come to a stop and the start ans stop feature activates it stalls as well with the D flashing. The engine light comes on as well.

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a service appointment and while being serviced, the mechanic informed the contact that the DTC code for an open solenoid was retrieved. The vehicle was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to a transmission specialist where it was pending the repair. The contact stated that the dealer referred her to contact the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,400.

When I gets an oil change days later my car start running slow saying decrease in power I was told air is getting in the filter and causes a freeze to decrease the power which is dangerous in traffic. This has been going on for the last two years. I’m told thousands of equinoxes has been brought in for service with the same scenario. It started in January of 2023

Code P0299 Dash says engine power reduced, speed has been reduced, a long with power and gas consumption not good, smelling gas in oil, not sure if connected. Dealer says no recall but it is a design flaw from supercharger freezing up due to no protection from elements, out of pocket to fix design flaw $1100 not covered under warranty or recall

The sunroof has a major leak, flowing through the fuze box and filling up the spare tire well and soaking all the carpets. This could potentially create a very bad mold issue, which I am trying to avoid. I’ve seen many others with this car have the same issue and nothing is being done to solve this. I am paying all this money for a car that is just going to rot from all this water, and possibly cause sickness with the mold. How is this not a recall?

The first half of the panoramic moon roof exploded as I was driving down the road. There are several article about this same issue happening to other GM vehicles however, it was never determined to be a recall. The vehicle has not been inspected. It is sitting in my garage waiting for a part to come in so a glass company can install a new one. There was no warning, the roof was not hit by anything, it just exploded as I was driving down a major highway.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox Premier. The engine connecting rod to the #1 piston separated, causing the engine to stop while the vehicle was in motion. The only warning light at the time was the tire pressure monitor system. The incident had no warning. My husband was driving the vehicle. Initially he thought the car blew a tire by the noise, but then the engine stopped/stalled while I was driving. He was able to get to a side road. The vehicle would not start. He smelled burnt rubber and then thought he broke a belt. He pushed the On-star button for roadside assistance. The car was towed to Ferman Chevolet, Adamoo Dr., Brandon, Florida where they inserted a camera scope and confirmed the rod separation. I do not have paperwork except to show they gave me $2500 towards a trade-in. Over the phone they said it would be $1800 to take apart the engine to confirm the separation. The mechanic suspected the engine was scarred as a result. It would cost $12,000 to replace it, or they could talk to the sales side and see if they can let us trade it in on a different car. We traded the vehicle in. I just saw news of another GM recall affecting the 6.2L V8 and thought it odd that the same thing happened to my vehicle, which is not included in the recall. The engine stall caused my husband to stall in the middle of the traffic lane on a side street. Had he not gotten to the side street in time, he would have blocked a traffic lane on a very busy road which could have resulted in a major accident with injuries.

My son was coming home from work 3/26/2025 after 5 pm, when a warning message came on that said "Engine Power Reduced". My son attempted to pull over, however, the brakes did not work. This caused a definite safety risk to my son and others as he could not stop the vehicle. Gratefully, he was on the street and not on the freeway where speeds are higher which could have caused injury or possibly death. He found a clear area to pull over and put the car in park and pushed the start/stop button to turn off the car. The car had to be towed to my home. The car was towed to the repair shop 4/1/2025. There were no previous warning messages regarding the engine or otherwise until the day of the incident. The vehicle is currently in the shop and has been inspected.

Good afternoon I hope everyone is well. This complaint I'm filing for Turbocharger/Supercharger A under boost condition (P0299) with my daughters 2018 Chevy Equinox. When you research this error with Chevy/GM vehicles you'll see this impacts all vehicles, but Chevy/GM is only recalling their vehicles from 2022+. I've spoken with numerous auto mechanics throughout the United States, and every auto mechanic has stated this is an issue that impacts all Chevy and GM vehicles. Both Chevy and GM are deceiving everyone and there's a significant issue that requires Chevy and GM should address.

The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the "Engine Power Reduced" message was displayed on the instrument panel and the vehicle unintentionally went into LIMP Mode. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the turbo charger assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the turbo charger boost assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for the last time where it was diagnosed that once again the turbo charger boost assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,717.

GM Brake Vacuum Pump - I understand there was a recall done a few years ago on this part. This is a known issue with GM, and they seem to refuse to address it in ALL their vehicles. My vehicle went out of service on Friday, July 7, 2023, after fueling and would not start. I was 5 days over the 100-day Carvana warranty, but they agreed to repair the sensor that Firestone said I needed to have replaced along with the spark plugs. After repairing these items, it still was doing the same thing of starting up but making a horrible sound and not turning over. They suggested I have it towed to the dealership. The dealership called 7/12/23 and stated that I needed a new vacuum pump and a sleuth of other parts that would cost me around $1900 in repairs. This car has 61,121 miles on it. When I purchased it, it had a little over 57,000 miles on it. From the sounds of it, I was incredibly lucky this happened where and when it did as oppose to being stopped in the middle of the road and the auto start/stop failing me. There were zero warning lights, alerts from the app, etc. I did hear a noise one time about a month ago, but I thought I kicked up something because I was traveling down a dirt road and when I stopped and got out to look I did not see anything hanging. As soon as I got on the main road the noise resolved.

The braking system failed as the engine compartment filled with smoke and flames. At first the doors remained locked but eventually unlocked so that the occupants were able to exit the vehicle unharmed. The vehicle was consumed by the fire before the fire department could extinguish the fire(5-10 minutes).

Vehicle displayed reduced engine power, check engine light, and service brake assist all at the same time. Brake pedal wouldn't move leaving me without brakes. Coasted to stop and shut off car. Brake did not release and now engine won't start. Informed brake vacuum booster pump is problem and ruined motor now.

My 2018 equinox was running perfectly. Then several warning lights popped up on the dash. I pulled into my daughter's school and didn't have power breaks. Even though brake fluid was full. It wouldn't start back up. A mechanic shop looked at the car and said they thought the timing was off. But couldn't guarantee it. Another mechanic looked at it a few days later and said I needed a new power break pump that the had broken at the camshaft connect. He said the car would need to rebuild the motor or buy a used motor because of the damage. I have heard of several people who have had the same exact issue with the chevy 1.5 turbo motor in many chevy vehicles. There should be a recall as there is never a warning that the vacuum break pump is getting ready to go bad and cause severe engine damage.

Vacuum pump failed and broke with no warning signs at all. After replacement now it will not start well and when it does I have lose off power. Lost brakes while driving on a country road and had to have it towed.

Brake assist light went on, had the brake pads and rotors replaced, light went off. 6 months later the light came back on but this time the brake pedal was hard. I did not drive it after that. After looking online and seeing dozens of people with the same issue, I took a chance and bought the brake booster and had my friend, who is a certified mechanic, replace the part. The old vacuum pump had frozen up and broken along with the gears, which had fallen into the engine, just like what I was seeing all over the Internet. People are getting hurt and lives are at risk, this should have been recalled!!!!

The brakes in our 2018 chevy equinox have went out three times in the past month. First time the car was parked fully functioning the night before, woke up the next morning for work and there was no brakes. Replaced the vacuum pump and they worked good as new. Second time we are driving down a busy highway and had been for half an hour. 2 minutes from our destination at the ONLY turn we had to make the whole trip, the brakes all of a sudden went out. This could have easily resulted in a fatal crash. Again, the vacuum pump. Now were to today, the third time our brakes have failed and this time it came with the check engine light and “engine power reduced”. GM NEEDS TO RECALL.

AFTER GOING THROUGH A CAR WASH OR DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAIN, THE VEHICLE DOOR LOCKS PERIODICALLY NO LONGER FUNCTION. DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK FUNCTION CANNOT BE USED EITHER WITH THE KEY FOB OR WITH DIRECT PRESS OF THE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. AT ONE POINT HAD TO CLIMB OUT THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE IS TO REMOVE THE COVER FROM THE DOOR LOCK AND USE THE EMBEDDED KEY IN THE KEY FOB. ISSUE WILL LAST ANYWHERE FROM 1 HOUR TO 24 HOURS AFTER THE CAR GETS WET. HUGE SAFETY CONCERN IF THERE WERE EVER TO BE AN ISSUE ARISING WHERE YOU HAD TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE VIDEO OF THE ISSUE OCCURRING.

THE VEHICLES ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL AND ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEMS RANDOMLY GIVE OFF SERVICE SIGNAL FOR THE STABILITRAK, HILL START ASSIST, AND BRAKE ASSIST. THIS CAUSES MY DOORS TO UNLOCK AND LOCK WHILE HE CAR IS IN MOTION AND GIVES SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS. THIS MOSTLY HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STARTED VIA REMOTE OR CHEVROLET APP BUT RECENTLY, IT IS HAPPENING DAILY WHEN THE VEHICLE GOES TO AUTO STOP AND CONTINUES AS THE VEHICLE RESTARTS FOR DRIVING ON CITY STREETS.

DATE OF INCIDENT: 10/17/2020. CHECK BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE'S ALERT MESSAGE INDICATED THE CAR WAS IN 'BATTERY SAVING MODE'. NO PREVIOUS INDICATORS HAD APPEARED TO INFORM THAT THERE WAS A BATTERY ISSUE. A SHORT WHILE LATER, ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE STOPPED WHILE DRIVER WAS ON A HIGHWAY. THE ALTERNATOR IN THE VEHICLE WENT OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ENOUGH VEHICLES WITH THIS ALTERNATOR MODEL THAT ALL PARTS STORES IN DULUTH, MN AND SUPERIOR, WI WERE OUT OF PARTS. ADDITIONALLY, THE MANUFACTURER HAS ALSO BEEN OUT OF STOCK WITH THIS ALTERNATOR, INDICATING THAT THERE IS A FLAW WITH THIS PART. WITH SUCH LITTLE (AND INACCURATE) WARNING, THIS WAS AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE IN.

BOUGHT EQUINOX IN MARCH 2018 EQUIPPED WITH 4 HANKOOK TIRES. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE, THE HANKOOK TIRES BEGAN TO LOSE AIR PRESSURE. IN JANUARY OF 2019, I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE ANNUAL STATE INSPECTION AND TOLD THE MECHANIC THE RIGHT REAR TIRE LOST MUCH MORE AIR PRESSURE THAN THE OTHER TIRES. THE MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS A SCREW IN IT. IT WAS PATCHED.THE TIRE WAS ROTATED FROM BACK TO FRONT. THE TIRES WERE STILL LOSING PRESSURE .ON OCTOBER 22, 2019, WHILE PARKED AT MY HOME, THE RIGHT FRONT HAD 5LBS AND THE RIGHT REAR HAD 6LBS OF PRESSURE. I PUT AIR IN THE TIRES, THE RIGHT REAR TOOK THE AIR, BUT THE RIGHT FRONT WOULD NOT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED IN ON OCTOBER 24, 2019 TO THE DEALER, PRIORITY CHEVROLET IN CHESAPEAKE, VA AND THEY HAD TO PUT 2 GOODYEAR TIRES ON TO REPLACE THE HANKOOK ONES BECAUSE THE HANKOOK TIRES HAD BEEN DISCONTINUED. MY CONCERN IS THE THAT THE 2 REMAINING HANKOOK TIRES MIGHT GO FLAT WHILE DRIVING.

I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TIRES , AT FIRST I HAD A SCREW IN THE BACK PASSENGER TIRE . THE DEALERSHIP DID FIX THAT, THEN I HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK BECAUSE THE SAME TIRE KEPT LOOSING AIR THEN IT WAS THE VALVE STEM, NOW THE TIRE ON THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE IS SHOWING THAT IT IS LOW AND I HAVE HAD TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY ARE GIVING ME GRIEF ABOUT THESE [XXX] TIRES ! 2018 EQUINOX ALL WHEEL DRIVE TIRES, MICHELIN PREMIER LTX M&S, SIZE, 225/60R18 100H TPC BSW. ALL 4 TIRES ARE DOWN TO 1/32" TREAD DEPTH AT 16482 MILES. VEHICLE SERVICED 3 TIMES BY CHEVROLET DEALER FOR OIL CHANGE AND TIRES ROTATED TWICE. TIRES KEPT AT RECOMMENDED TIRE PRESSURE OF 35 PSI. TIRE RATED BY MANUFACTURER FOR 60,000 MILES. TIRES EVENLY WORN ACROSS TREAD SURFACES. CHEVROLET DECLINED WARRANTY CLAIM STATING TIRE WEAR IS A TIRE MANUFACTURER'S ISSUE. DEALER CONTACTED MICHELIN REPRESENTATIVE WHO STATES THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE SAME TIRE WITH EITHER A 16" OR 17" RIM SIZE BUT NOT 18". DEALER RELAYED THAT MICHELIN WOULD REPLACE THE TIRES WITH SAME IDENTICAL MODEL HOWEVER I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR 25% OF TIRE RETAIL COST AS WELL AS ALL TAXES, MOUNTING AND BALANCING TOTALING OVER $300.00. THIS DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT AS I AM SURE THAT THE 18" TIRES WILL ALSO EVENTUALLY BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL.

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the Service Brake Assist warning light illuminated, and the brake pedal became difficult to depress. The contact exited the first available exit and coasted to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed that the vacuum pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Approximately 5 years later, the failure reoccurred while driving approximately 70 MPH. The contact was able to get off the nearest exit, then coasted to a stop. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed the same cause of failure. The vacuum pump was replaced again. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was 49,967.

The clip at the bottom of the piston for the lift gate broke which caused the lift gate to fall. The strut got wedged between the body of the car and the rear reverse light so the lift gate didn’t end up falling on me but causing damage. Upon further inspection, the other strut’s clip is also cracked.

ON THE PHONE THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON SAID THAT WE WERE DENIED DUE TO PRIOR BUMPER DAMAGE. THERE WAS NO PRIOR DAMAGE AND GM WILL NOT PUT IT IN WRITING WHY THEY DENIED OUR CLAIM. ALSO THEY WILL NOT GIVE US A COPY OF THEIR REPORT OR THE INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION REPORT SAYING THAT IT IS PRIVATE. I was driving 55 mph heading to a friends for the weekend with another one of my friends and my dog. It started raining and it was scaring my dog to see the rain drops on the sunroof so I closed the shade. About 15 minutes later there was a loud constant sound almost like a warning so I looked at my dash, radio ect to see what was going on and about 3-5 minutes after the loud constant whining sound started there was a loud boom!! sounded like a bomb or gunshot. I pulled over and got out to look and found a hole in my sunroof. By looking at it you can totally see that the pressure or blast was from the inside as the glass on the sunroof was pushed outward. I took this to a GM dealer and the service manager was rude and kept saying it was from something in the roadway which it was NOT!! The road was clear and it was still light out. Besides what was that sound from then??? This is unsafe and the outcome could have turned out way worse.

No code, no indication of anything wrong, no lights or warnings, no sounds or rough running indications on the vehicle. It just completely died in the middle of the highway while traveling down the road and would not restart. Middle of the night with me and my granddaughter in the vehicle. It ended up being a problem with the timing chain which was not broke. Nor were there any indication there was a problem with it.

Then after calling the dealership Miller Brothers Ellicott City, MD With my concerns that the light is on again but by the time I'm given a service appointment the engine light goes back out. I feel that this continues to happen with my vehicle several times while my car was covered by my extended warranty as well as my 100 thousand miles powertrain where in which my Turbocharger is not functioning correctly and should be made part of a recall of All Chevy equinox vehicle which have the 1.5 liter engine where the engine power reduced code P0299 APPEARS the goes out on its own knowingly Even though my car VIN is not part of a recall it remains a safety issue for myself as well as other Equinox owners. It's like I think I am having a heart attack today (reduced engine power) But My local Chevy dealerships want me to make and appointment. While going 80mph on the highway at 2:00am on or around 10/6/2023, my power braking system went out without warning. I was able to get it off the road and to a shop where they told me it was the vacuum pump and cam shaft. Repair took a week. 7 months later on 5/31/2024, it went out again, luckily in town going 35mph, and involved the vacuum pump, cam shaft, and this time the oil pump as well. Repair took 5 months due to parts availability. The only time the engine light came on, it was for a sensor unrelated to this issue.

I have a 2018 chevy equinox that I bought brand new back in December of 2018. The vacuum pump failed therefore breaking the camshaft which in turn caused failure to my brakes. I went to stop at a light and my brake pedal was hard and my car skidded to a stop through the light. No warning that anything was wrong nothing. My brakes worked fine up until I went to stop at the next light. Then out of the blue my brake pedal was hard and I had no brakes. I almost got into a severe accident due to the brake failure. Evidently there have been other people this has happened to. Extremely dangerous and unsafe. There have been lawsuits filed against GM for faulty vacuum pump part although they were for the year of 2020. GM needs to take a look at this issue and also install some kind of warning. I get warnings for a tire being a little low you would think they could put a warning in for the brake system!! The warranty is still good on my car do I do not have to pay for the repair. In addition when the camshaft broke it threw pieces of metal into the top part of the engine!!

While driving to Tennessee my brakes went out on the car. The vacuum pump broke into pieces and made braking nearly impossible. Had it repaired and less than a week later the same thing happened coming off the interstate no brakes again on the off ramp. We had to glide to a stop for the brakes to kick in a little past the hard brake pedal. Checked the vacuum pump and again no suction so it’s bad again, not only that it appears that the rear main could be leaking but could be something else all together.

When buckled, the part of the seat belt buckle where the LAP belt slides through the actual buckle part becomes binding and has to be manual pushed through the buckle in order to move your hips when seated. This issue has absolutely nothing to do with the shoulder part of the belt or the belt not retracting. It is solely an issue with the plastic buckle and the belt not sliding through it when seated. This is a safety issue because the lap belt becomes binding while seated. If the driver needs to shift in the seat, he must pull the shoulder belt out to create give in the belt and then use both hands to manually feed the belt through the buckle. This is unsafe when driving for obvious reasons if the driver is unable to use any hands on the steering wheel. If the driver doesn't continuously adjust the belt in this way, it becomes so tight across the hips that it causes discomfort and redness on the skin and abrasions if the vehicle turns wide or breaks quickly. This intense discomfort makes me avoid wearing my seatbelt which causes obvious risk or poses a risk to myself and other drivers if I need to take both hands off the wheel to adjust it while driving. The front passenger seat belt has the same issue. I began to notice this issue about 6 months ago and have taken the vehicle to a dealer/service center 3 times without any recourse other than being offered the opportunity to replace the entire seat belt system for $700 each.

THE CURRENT LOCKED-IN WALL-MOUNTED SHOULDER SAFETY STRAPS ARE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AND POSSIBLY DANGEROUS FOR A SHORT PERSON. PREVIOUSLY WE OWNED A 2012 EQUINOX, AND BEING UNDER 5'2" TALL, I USED THE WALL-MOUNTED SHOULDER STRAP "SLIDER" ADJUSTMENT TO COMFORTABLY ADJUST THE SEAT BELT HEIGHT IN BOTH THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATS. WE NOW OWN A 2018 EQUINOX, AND IT NO LONGER HAS THE "SLIDER" HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT (WALL-MOUNTED). IT ONLY HAS THE LOCKED-IN SHOULDER STRAP. THE SHOULDER STRAP RESTS AGAINST THE SIDE OF MY NECK, AND FEELS AS IF IT IS RUBBING OR CUTTING INTO MY NECK. NOW, INSTEAD OF THE SHOULDER STRAP HEIGHT BEING ADJUSTABLE, THE PASSENGER SEAT HEIGHT IS ADJUSTABLE (THE DRIVER SEAT HEIGHT PREVIOUSLY WAS ADJUSTABLE). WHILE THE ADDITIONAL VISIBILITY IS HELPFUL, THE SHOULDER STRAP STILL FEEL AS IF IT IS RUBBING OR CUTTING INTO MY NECK. TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM, WHEN I AM DRIVING (USING BOTH HANDS, AS I ALWAYS DO), THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE, SO I TRY TO WEAR A SHIRT WITH A COLLAR TO TUCK THE STRAP UNDER. THIS IS NOT MUCH BETTER. WHEN I AM A PASSENGER, I EITHER HOLD THE SHOULDER STRAP WITH MY HAND, OR PUT MY FOREARM UNDER THE SHOULDER STRAP, BUT STILL KEEP THE STRAP OVER MY SHOULDER. WHILE I MAY RISK A BROKEN HAND OR ARM WITH THESE METHODS, IT IS PREFERABLE TO RISKING A POSSIBLE BROKEN NECK.

THE SEAT BELTS ARE DESIGNED SUCH THAT A SHORTER PERSON MUST WEAR THE BELT ACROSS THEIR NECK WHEN BUCKLED IN. THE ADJUSTMENT TO RAISE AND LOWER THE SEATBELT FROM THE WALL OF THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER INCLUDED IN THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THIS HAS BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE SHORTER DRIVER (INCLUDING STUDENT DRIVERS). IF AN INCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR THAT REQUIRED THE SEATBELT, I BELIEVE ADDITIONAL INJURY COULD RESULT TO THE NECK AND POSSIBLY SEVERE THAT OTHERWISE WOULDN'T OCCUR WITH PROPERLY FIT SEATBELTS.

I AM NOT ABLE TO ADJUST THE HEIGHT IN WHICH MY SEAT BELT LAYS ON MY CHEST. I AM 5'3' AND USUALLY NEED TO ADJUST THE SEAT BELT HEIGHT IN THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, WHEN I LEASED MY VEHICLE, I NOTICED THERE WAS NO WAY TO ADJUST THIS. WHEN I AM DRIVING, I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO RAISE THE HEIGHT OF MY SEAT, HOWEVER, MY KNEES BECOME TOO CLOSE TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND I AM THEN SITTING TOO HIGH IN THE VEHICLE TO HAVE GOOD VISION OF THE ROAD. THIS EVENING, I WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING, HE HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKES VERY UPRIBPTLY AS DEER WERE IN OUR PATH AS HE WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON A RURAL ROAD AND THE SEATBELT LOCKED AND CUT INTO MY NECK. THIS WAS A PAINFUL EXPERIENCE THAT I CAN ONLY DESCRIBE AS A 'RUG BURN.' THE SEATBELT LEFT A RED MARK ON MY NECK, AND HOURS LATER, IS STILL VISIBLE. WHILE THE SEATBELT STOPPED ME FROM GOING FORWARD, IT STOPPED ME USING MY NECK, WHICH WAS PAINFUL. HAD I BEEN ABLE TO ADJUST THE HEIGHT OF THE SEATBELT, IT WOULD NOT HAVE RUBBED MY BARE NECK.

I HAVE KEYLESS START ON MY 2018 EQUINOX. PULLED OUT OF PARKING LOT AT 5PM ONTO MAJOR ATLANTA STREET AND CAR SHUT OFF. RESTARTED IT AND IT SHUT OFF AS SOON AS I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. REPEATED THIS FOUR TIMES UNTIL I REALIZED THAT PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL WAS CAUSING IT TO POWER DOWN. RESTARTED IT AGAIN, LEFT IT IN DRIVE, AND COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT AND PARKED IT. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road and the vehicle eventually came to a stop. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that a gasket had detached and was missing, and there were plastic pieces inside the engine, and there was oil intrusion into other parts of the vehicle and engine. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was parked at the residence and had not been driven since the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but denied assistance in covering the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was 200,000.

This rare equinox has a Turbocharge issue that causes rapid engine power loss, and melting under the manifold and around the fuel injector pipes. The recent recalls do not include this GM made diesel equinox due to its rarity, and small consumer ownership of 506,775 units sold in its lifetime. However, GM has been just as negligent with this diesel 1.6L, as with the other major model lineup. Diesel particulate sensor goes bad every year around installation anniversary (previous recall). THE 7 INCH INFOTAINMENT SCREEN DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE LIGHT DIMMER DIAL, REMAINING AT FULL, BLINDING DAYTIME BRIGHTNESS EVEN AT NIGHT. THE SCREEN CAN BE TURNED OFF BY SCROLLING THROUGH MENUS, A HAZARD WHILE DRIVING, HOWEVER IT HAS TO BE DONE BECAUSE ANY ADJUSTMENT TO THE HEATER CONTROLS, RADIO, PHONE, ON STAR OR BACK UP CAMERA TURNS THE DISPLAY BACK ON. GENERAL MOTORS KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT ALL THEY HAVE DONE IS PUT A 'SERVICE NOTE' IN THE SYSTEM STATING THAT THE INFOTAINMENT DISPLAY IN CERTAIN 2018 EQUINOX MODELS MAY NOT RESPOND TO OR RESPOND VERY LITTLE TO THE INTERIOR LIGHT DIMMER OR THE AUTOMATED NIGHT SENSOR. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE TO KNOW THE DISPLAYS AREN'T FUNCTIONING AS DETAILED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND DO NOTHING. 2018 EQUINOX LCD SCREEN GETS STUCK IN BRIGHT MODE. UPON INITIATION OF THE BACKUP CAMERA THE LCD STAYS BRIGHT FOR AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. NIGHTTIME DRIVING IS EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE. IF THE RADIO IS RESET (HOLD DOWN HOME AND FAST FORWARD, OR TURNING OFF VEHICLE FOR THE PERIOD OF TIME IT TAKES TO COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN RADIO) IT WILL STAY IN THE PROPER DIM SETTING UNTIL THE BACKUP CAMERA IS INITIATED AGAIN. I HAVE TESTED THIS ON SEVERAL 2018 EQUINOX CARS AND FOUND THIS TO BE A MALFUNCTION. MUST VIEW PROBLEM AT NIGHT TO SEE HAZARD. DIMMING IS AVAILABLE FROM THE INTERIOR LIGHTING DIMMING SWITCH. THIS SIMS DASH LIGHTING ALSO WHICH MAKES IT HARD TO SEE THE DASH. 1st Incident: Code P2138 - Accelerator Pedal Sensor In March of 2024 - driving on highway dashboard warning lights illuminated(traction control & reduced engine power) vehicle went into limp mode putting my family & I in danger due to traffic volume and speed on highway. Had to drive on berm at speeds below 25mph to exit freeway safely. Removed battery cable to reset computer. Taken to Serra Bartlett Chevrolet in Memphis- couldn't get vehicle to repeat error. 2nd Incident: Code - P2138 June 2024 - while traveling on highway same dashboard warning signals & car went into limp mode. Had to maneuver to the berm to exit the highway safely once again putting my family in danger at speeds below 25 mph exit. Vehicle was towed to Serpentini Chevrolet the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor was replaced under the extended warranty. 3rd Incident - Code P2138 June 2025- while traveling on highway, same dashboard warning signals & car went into limp mode again. Had to maneuver to the berm to exit the highway putting my family in danger again at speeds below 25mph. Removed the battery cable to reset computer - was unsuccessful. Contacted Jeff Schmitt Chevrolet - had to drive the vehicle over 35 miles on the berm of the highway at speeds lower than 25 mph to get to dealership. Upon arriving they ran the codes and annotated the P2138 code. The next morning when the Technician checked the vehicle the computer had reset itself and everything was checking out fine, the code was still in the vehicle history . The sensor was under warranty and we inquired about replacement because the code showed failure, the dealership stated GM would not replace the part because it tested good. But I could pay to have it replaced if I paid for it. GM Service Bulletin No:074-06-04-019F clearly states they are aware of issues with this vehicle, yet I cannot get it repaired to my satisfaction It puts myself and my family under extreme danger while driving this vehicle on the freeway.

The speedometer does not operate. The gas gauge does not operate. The odometer does not operate and is not tracking miles driven. The blinkers work but no blinker sound occurs. Head lights must be turned on and off manually. The radio must be turned off manually. I ran out of gas on the freeway and Highway Patrol had to close the freeway to remove me safely under quite dangerous conditions. There is no way to monitor my speed. The milage is not being reported to reflect the miles put on the engine.

1. Drive Shaft fractured while driving my vehicle, yes it is available for inspection. 2. Car made a loud popping noise and part of the car was dragging and the car was shaking and unsafe to drive. 3. Yes, the car is in the shop and the drive shaft fracture has been confirmed. 4. Not at this time. Only AAA and my local garage have inspected the vehicle. 5. No warning lamps/lights were present. 6. I heard a loud pop and immediately pulled over because I thought it was my tire. I saw something hanging and called AAA for a tow because it was unsafe to drivet.

THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THE MANUFACTURER FELT THIS MAY BE DUE TO A SOFTWARE PROBLEM AND MAY NEED TO COMPLETE A SOFTWARE UPDATE AT SOME FUTURE POINT IN TIME. My 2018 equinox is not included in any recalls. However, it has been in for engine repair, even though the vehicle only had 70,000 miles on it at the time. After that, the ABS system was acting up, the automatic door locks and locking mechanism failed and went outs, the brakes have been repaired three times and the suspension is worn down. I only have $86,000 mi on it. I am now getting ready to take it in again for transmission issues. My car is not included in any recalls, but seems to have the issues stated and all the recalls

The vacuum pump that controls the power brakes broke/went tight, causing the brake pedal to get extremely hard and almost caused us to crash on the interstate. It turns out that this vacuum pump is attached to the camshaft on the 2018 Equinox and it doesn't have a shear pin, so when it goes tight, it destroys the camshaft and timining chain as well. It will cost over $4k to repair. This is a huge safety concern, not to mention the unexcpected costs to the consumer. GM is well aware of this issue, and has issued recalls on the same vacuum pump on different models of Chevrolets/GMCs

JUST FINSHED MY SECOND YEAR INTO MY 3 YEAR 2018 CHEVY EQUINOX LEASE AND FOR THE LAST MONTH OR SO THE SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST HAS APPEARED AND DISSAPEARED DOZENS OF TIMES WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE AND WHILE DRIVING AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND OFF FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS. ORGINALLY MAD AN APPOINTMENT BUT THE DEALER SHIP CANCLLED IT AND THEN MY CAR SUDDENLY HAD REDUCED POWER THE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD. NOT A HIGHWAY. GOT IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE SAY A VACUM PUMP SEIZED? NOW ARE SAYING THERE IS METAL IN THE ENGINE AMD THEY DONT KNOW WHY. TRYING TO GET ME TO PAY FOR COST. I get a ‘Forward Collision System Unavailable’ warning frequency when the outside temperature is high and the humidity seems high as well. I thought this was a one time thing but it has happened multiple times. I thought the issue was related to my old battery but the issue still appears after replacing the vehicle battery. The last time it happened was on July 31, 2023 at 3:20pm (eastern time zone). I live in Newry, South Carolina. The high for the day was 100 degrees.

On many occasions while driving at highway speeds the steering wheel sticks causing me to use extra force to move the wheel. It's bad enough on dry pavement but on wet or snow covered roads it's worst. I have spun out 2 times already even while being cautious, luckily no one was around at the time. This needs to be addressed. There have been a few times that the blind spot monitoring stayed lit when there was no car around as well as at times the light never came on while I was being passed

I have a 2018 Chevy Equinox. Was driving one day when the lights for service brake assist, park brake released, and traction control came on. The brake petal went extremely hard and was almost impossible to stop. Had the vaccum pump replaced. Drove for two-three weeks, same lights, brakes go hard off and on, vaccum pipe with sensor changed, only one week later same issues, another vacuum pump put on and oil changed due to metal from faulty pump in oil. We are now 900 dollars in repairs and no fix. Same issues over and over. GM is well aware of the issue with their faulty pumps and system but refuse to fix the issues and continue to put them in the vehicles which will lead to fatalities.

A message has begun appearing in my 2018 Chevy Equinox LT that states "Parking Brake Released". This message did not previously appear and seems to be a potential issue to fix. After doing some online research, I found 3 technical service bulletins for parking brake issues/messages for the 2018 Equinox on an automotive repair website. However, when I contacted the Chevy dealership and did a VIN search, there were no open recalls or any recalls for my car. I am not clear why other 2018 Equinox models have recall notices but my VIN number is not impacted by those notices, even though it was manufactured during the same year. Please help investigate if my car should be included in those TSBs and dealer repairs. The TSB numbers are: 20NA094, 19NA213, and PI1410B.

When my cats gets turned on my radio doesn’t turn on so I have to reset it until it turns on meaning I have to press and hold for 20sec to get the volume knob lite but my radio doesn’t work and on top of it the auto stop is tripping when I do auto stop the car turns off and restarts on its own and shows light on dash saying traction control on or off and then it will say brake release and than brake check my steering wheel controls don’t work meaning my auto control isn’t working to set and one day out of nowhere it will all work like nothing happen radio will turn on but I can’t turn volume on or change station and it’s a frozen screen and sometimes it goes all blank black but I can hear music with no screen

I see that this isn't a recall but is affecting many models of chevy from year models 2016-2019 with the gear selector assembly. The issue is the harness, solenoid, or sensor in the gear selector assembly is faulty and when trying to put the vehicle in park, the vehicle thinks it is NOT in park when it IS. Then, when you leave the vehicle, the interior beeps at you and electricals stay on as well as headlights/tail lights and will drain the battery unless you disconnect the battery. I don't see why this hasn't been recalled? I see SOOOO many people with the same issue and I've read that some dealerships are reluctant to fix because they can't "duplicate the problem" The problem is, you can't just buy the gear selector harness assembly wiring harness since it only comes with the whole assembly itself. So this should indeed be a recall because the average person isn't going to be able to figure this out and they shouldn't have to pay since it is happening in what looks like thousands if not tens of thousands or more vehicles.

I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE OCT 31,2017 AND WITH IN THE FIRST TWO MONTHS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT 1,400 MILES. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS PURCHASED FROM IMMEDIATELY AND WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS MECHANICALLY WRONG AND IT WAS OKAY TO CONTINUE DRIVING WITH THE LIGHT ON. IT EVENTUALLY WENT OUT ON ITS OWN JUST TO COME BACK ON A MONTH LATER, I AGAIN TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS TIME TO BE TOLD I NEEDED A NEW VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER PIPE. AFTER THE PART WAS REPLACED THE DEALERSHIP THEN TOLD ME I NEEDED TO HAVE THE BRAKE BOOSTER PRESSURE SENSOR REPLACED. THREE DAYS AFTER THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON AT THIS POINT THE DEALERSHIP HAD NO MORE ANSWERS AND WAS REPORTING MY ISSUE TO GM AND HAVING ONE OF THEIR TECHNICIANS LOOK AT MY VEHICLE. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE BACK IN FOR A FOURTH TIME BECAUSE THE LIGHT CONTINUES TO TURN OFF AND ON INTERMITTENTLY AND DUE TO MY KNOWLEDGE OF THE LEMON LAWS ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE GM IS NOW INTERESTED IN PURCHASING MY VEHICLE BACK AND TO THIS DAY THE TRANSACTION HASN'T HAPPENED BECAUSE I FEEL AS THOUGH I AM BEING PENALIZED FOR THEIR ERROR. While driving, my driver's side power seat will automatically go to the "exit position". Because of my short stature, this causes me to not be able to reach the gas and brake pedals until I move the seat back up. It first occurred when I was in 5 lanes if traffic during rush hour traffic. There was no warning or indication of a problem before it happened. Scary, as momentarily I couldn't brake. I took it to the dealership for repair. They we able to reproduce the issue and diagnosed it as the power seat memory switch in the door panel. They replaced the part but it did not fix the problem.

Since I bought this car I have had to replace sensors like they’re going out of style. However I would like to report on 3 sensors that went out simultaneously on my vehicle in heavy traffic. I had the vacuum boost sensor for my master cylinder, my cam shaft sensor and my crank shaft sensor go out simultaneously. As a result my vehicle engine cut off completely (battery components still working) and I had zero control over my breaks. I had to use my full body weight on my break pedal to get the vehicle to stop. I was fortune to have been able to pull off into a parking lot. I have had to replace several o2 sensors on this vehicle. I didn’t think anything of having any electrical issues until this happened. My check engine light has stayed on for over a year despite clearing codes and replacing o2 sensors. We check periodically and the only code is usually for the o2 sensor. We can save the sensors we have replaced for inspection if necessary. I had a low engine power signal flash across the infotainment system just before this happened. I was in heavy traffic and I’m just fortunate I was able to get out of the way quickly enough before I hurt myself or someone else. The break issue and loss of power was actually terrifying

The vehicle first started having a cigarette residual smoke smell in it during the summer of 2019. It was right after a good rainfall, but we didn't know what to attribute it to. We called the local Chevrolet dealership and they weren't sure what it might be either. The odor would come and go over the last couple of years, but we couldn't figure out what it was from as none of my family members smoke. Then my husband went to run errands in my vehicle during a heavy downpour and heard water running inside of the car. He found water coming out of the fuse panel on the driver's side in the rear hatch (video available). He started removing the wet stuff in the rear hatch & when he got down to the spare tire compartment, he found it was filled with water. He also smelled the cigarette smoke-like odor like 10 times stronger than before & realized that it was due to the felt-like pad in the spare tire compartment being soaked in water. We again called the local dealership & they weren't sure what the problem might have been. My husband & stepfather did research and found out a lot of Equinox owners were experiencing the same issue & it had been determined that it was due to the sunroof water drainage system being clogged. The provided solution was to run air through the water drainage pipes, which my husband did. However, the vehicle still had some water appearing behind the driver's side seat during the lighter rainfalls afterwards. As well, the odor that smelled like cigarette smoke had now been replaced with a strong mildew/mold smell. This poses two major safety issues - water going into fuse boxes (water & electrical don't mix), as well as the mold/mildew being inhaled - especially of concern since we have two toddlers sitting in the backseat of this family vehicle. One dealership was unable to duplicate water inside the vehicle, but found the water drain pipes partially clogged. Other dealership noted mold/mildew smell and did an ozone detailing.

After auto stop/ start system engages messages on dash appear “ service brake assist”, “service steering assist”, “service parking brake”, “service stibilitrac”, Failure at 55,400 miles Dealership found a loss communication error to the muddles due to low battery voltage. Fix: replaced battery at 55,436 miles Battery has been replaced 3 times in 4 years starting at 18, 500 miles, then at 32,562 miles, now at 55,436 miles due to the same issue with the auto stop start operation. Car is out of warranty as of 58,300 miles or October 2022

When I lift my foot off brake the car Stop/Start feature engage causing lurching jerks forward or roll backwardson hill I fear the roll back on inclines praying vehicles are to close behind and rolling backwards into another vehicle, censors lights take turns coming on each time I lift my foot off the brake pedal. All of the following, service brake assist, service stabilittrak, park brake released, service hill start assist action not working, car locks unlock and relock by themselves. I have had these issues since. These issues have been occurring since around 16,000 miles and keep getting worst everyday. GM claim not to have a fix for these issues. They offered a few thousand to buy back the vehicle claiming drastic depreciation for milage and wear. At that time owed over $25,000 balance for the vehicle. No one stood to benefit but the lemon law attorneys.They did not consider the milage when these issues started and this is my only source of transportation to use which I told the lemon law attorneys. The lemon law attorneys were going to charge their fee from me if GM refused to pay their fees. I told them I felt in my best interest I should wait for GM's recall for this vehicle as I'm sure I wasn't the only consumer that was having these same issues. My problem is my vehicle is becoming dangerous to drive due to the rolling back and, jerking of the steering wheel, engine cutting off, locks unlocking and relocking and unstable steering. These issues were hit and miss now happens every time I drive which is daily. These issues started 2020. Last correspondence with GM they still claim they did not know how to fix these issues. I question why they are making vehicles and are not able to fix these issues. I have given my family a list of these issues because they create a safety hazard and in case I, a passenger or someone in another vehicle is injured or killed due to GM's negligence, lack of concern and greed.

In Dec 2019 my front passenger headlight went out. Still under warranty I had the dealer replace the bulb. In late December 2020 my front passenger headlight went out again. I was told it was over $400 to fix. This was "replacing the lightbulb". I decided to purchase my own lightbulb from a reputable source. The problem is not the lightbulb but instead the ballast or the wiring. I have NEVER had to replace a lightbulb in any of my cars before let alone 2 in two years. Chevy told me that I was out of luck because I was 2 weeks after the bulb under warranty was replaced... REALLY? So now I am without a front headlight and not willing to pay to have this repaired since it is obviously a manufacturers defect. Chevy has NOT been helpful and neither has my local dealership. My safety is being put at risk because I can not see 1/2 of the road with 1 headlight. Cars can only see 1/2 of my car oncoming. There have been no warning lights etc.

USING PHONE NAVIGATION (BOTH GOOGLE MAPS AND WAZE) AT NIGHT WILL START WITH NORMAL BRIGHTNESS WHICH CAN BE CONTROLLED BY THE DIMMING KNOB. I WAS ALMOST IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT ON OCT 7, 2019. I WAS TRAVELLING ON STATE HIGHWAYS FROM AUBURN, PA TO HERSHEY, PA AT APPRX 930AM. ROADS WERE DAMP/WET BUT RAIN HAD STOPPED. SINCE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE, I HAD ALWAYS ENGAGED ALL SAFETY FEATURES INCLUDING LANE KEEP ASSIST (LKA), COLLISION ALERTS, ETC. THIS WAS MAIN REASON I UPGRADED FROM MY 2014 EQUINOX. ON RT 183, HEADING UP A WINDING MOUNTAIN ROAD, I ALMOST LOST CONTROL SEVERAL TIMES, DESPITE DRIVING WELL UNDER SPEED LIMIT. **NOTE: MY BF AND I HAD PREVIOUSLY COMPLAINED TO DEALER, AND EVEN HAD IT IN FOR SERVICE, BC WE BOTH FELT CAR PULLED TO THE RIGHT ON ITS OWN. THE TECH FOUND THAT THE "ELECTRICAL STEERING GEAR AND ELECTRICAL MODULE" PRONGS WERE BENT AND BEING A BRAND NEW OF THE LINE VEHICLE THEY FOUND THE PRONGS WERE BENT AND THE ELECTRICAL STEERING GEAR AND ELECTRICAL MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE. GM WANTED THE PART BACK AND SINCE HAVE BEEN IN A RENTAL. WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT TO THEIR ATTENTION THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUES AND IT WAS A HAZARD THE SERVICE DEPT. REPRESENTATIVE WAS DEFENSIVE AND UNPROFESSIONAL AS WELL AS DEFENSIVE WHEN STATED THIS IS AN ISSUE OF SAFETY AND HAZARDOUS. THE CAR WOULD NOT START OR GO INTO NEUTRAL HOWEVER I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON AS WELL AS THE RADIO AND ON-STAR. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER GOT IT STARTED IN LOW GEAR TO GET IT ON THE TOW TRUCK, BUT IT DIDN'T START AGAIN. I WAS ON A CITY STREET IN RUSH HOUR, GOING LESS THAN 15 MPH. I JUST GOT MY VEHICLE BACK FROM SERVICE AT THE MIRAK.COM DEALERSHIP IN ARLINGTON, MA, AND APPARENTLY THE ISSUE WAS: "CAUSED BY: PERFORM SCAN TOOL TEST. THE TECH "EXTRACT CODES WITH SCAN TOOLS". I WAS TOLD THAT IT "JUST NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE". I own a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox with a 1.5L engine. While driving with my children in the vehicle, the car experienced a sudden and frightening failure. The engine began malfunctioning, and after inspection, my mechanic and the repair shop confirmed damage to the vacuum pump, broken engine pieces, and issues with the timing chain and camshaft. These issues are identical to those described in an existing recall for this vehicle, but my VIN is not included. The shop even questioned why my mechanic had to replace the vacuum pump, which shows this failure is directly related to the known recall problem. This situation created a very unsafe condition while my kids were in the car. It is unfair and dangerous that my VIN is excluded when the exact same recall defects are present. I am requesting that my vehicle be included in the recall and that NHTSA investigate this defect further, as it poses a serious safety risk for me, my family, and potentially other drivers.

My fuel pump just gave out randomly while driving on the highway. Unable to drive over 14mph. I head other 2018 Equinox’s experienced this problem often. I believe my vehicle should be included as well. In the past I’ve also gotten a random alert that my forward collision was disabled while driving on the highway with no warning. It always goes away on its own.

I am filing this complaint regarding a defective CYBEX Callisto car seat and the company’s mishandling of my replacement request. The tension door of the car seat has malfunctioned three times while driving, causing the seat to become unsecured and putting my child’s safety at significant risk. This malfunction is deeply concerning and could lead to severe consequences. Details of the Incident Component Failure: The tension door of the car seat pops open during use, rendering the seat unsecured. This has occurred three times. Availability for Inspection: The defective car seat is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: Each malfunction directly jeopardized my child’s safety while driving. Inspection: A certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) and CYBEX customer service both confirmed that the car seat was installed correctly. CYBEX Customer Service Interaction: When I contacted CYBEX customer service to report the issue, they initially refused to replace the defective seat unless I provided a video of the malfunction. This request was unreasonable, as capturing the incident is nearly impossible due to its random nature and dangerous to attempt while driving. After further discussion, CYBEX agreed to replace the car seat under the condition that I remove all identifying product information (serial number, manufacturer date, etc.) and submit photos. I complied with their instructions, but I was subsequently informed that the car seat was out of stock in all colors, requiring me to wait for a replacement. When I later noticed that the car seat was back in stock in certain colors, I followed up with CYBEX, only to be told that they had reversed their decision and were now refusing to replace the seat. This decision, after I complied with all of their requests, including removing the product’s identifying information, is unacceptable and unprofessional.

Purchased the car on 10/20/2023. Since that time it had 7 check engine lights with the P2459 code for Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Frequency. The car has powered down 3 times and been repaired several times, for things NOT that code. The vehicle is currently powered down at the dealership where purchased, as I attempt to mediate repairs and costs. I have spent $9398.73 in repairs, Uber’s, rentals, car payments, and warranty payments. And, I am still without a working vehicle.

I'm writing to request an extension of the recall for the Brake Vacuum Pump issue and seek compensation for repairs on my 2018 Chevy Equinox. In November 2023, while exiting [XXX] in Warwick, RI, my brakes failed despite full pressure. I had to steer into the breakdown lane and eventually stopped in a parking lot. At the time, I was nine months pregnant and extremely shaken. After stopping, the vehicle exhibited erratic behavior and not stopping, entering "limp mode." The car was towed to a local mechanic who initially thought the brakes were at fault. It was later diagnosed at Sullivan Tire that a "catastrophic failure of the Brake Vacuum Pump" caused camshaft damage, leading to repair costs of $3,197.17. The mechanic stated this failure was unprecedented for a vehicle with only 64,271 miles. I discovered that a recall for this issue exists but does not cover the 2018 Equinox. Many owners of this model have reported similar problems. Requests: Recall Extension: Please extend the recall to include the 2018 Equinox and other affected models to prevent further incidents. Compensation: I seek reimbursement of $3,197.17 for repairs. I have documentation and faulty parts available for inspection if needed. I have contacted Chevy and they have not been helpful, and this needs to be filed for a full recall. Attached are the repair invoice, proof of faulty parts, and links to related complaints. I look forward to your prompt resolution to prevent future issues for consumers. I still have the damaged parts for proof failure in my possession. So where do i begin. There are no leaks on my driveway but I have to add coolant every other day & then when I opened my hood it looks like there’s grease everywhere like over the bolts where the bottom & top meet. At time the car stalls it loses power or doesn’t even pick up power. It just drags. Sometimes a strong odor comes from the vents of the a/c & then it at times doesn’t blow cool air just flat air. Also six months after having the vehicle the 2 TPMS went out & when I took it back to dealer where i purchased it they basically told me that I didn’t even have any TPMS that the machine didn’t pick up any & now the display was showing all 4 empty & the TPMS icon constantly on the display. I found that odd & I didn’t know much about TPMS at the time. I was still bothered so I kept asking other people I would come in contact with being new to the state of Texas & they said the only way it would not come up on the machine would be as if they wouldn’t be inside as they were removed but again I drove in with just 2 marking on the display. Not a big deal. I did purchase the gold package of warranty with the vehicle but I have no idea how to use it. I’m not sure if they even did all the past recalls on this vehicle. I read one of them was a window & I too hear that as I drive

2/20/24 while coming to a stop at a stop light in a busy intersection, the car completely died/shut down. Hazard lights could not be turned on. No lights in car, no error message. no lights at all. RPM gauges remained in the same position as when the vehicle died. I was able to put it in park. After about 5 minutes the car was able to be restarted. It was not clear why it finally restarted. I tried to push break, push start button and push hazards. There have been similar incidents in the past but this incident took much longer to be able to restart the car. Those incidents the RPM gauge dropped into the off position in those other situations. The hazard lights were at least able to be turned on and I still had lights in my dash. This is a dangerous engine error that can not be replicated for service personnel to demonstrate the problem.

Engine Power Reduced" was displayed, and the vehicle failed to exceed 30 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the charge air cooler was replaced, and the CAC shutter, the temperature control valve and the winter grill cover were installed. Additionally, the ECM was reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to TSB Number: N222372590. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist because the VIN was not included in a recall related to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

the vacumm pump grenaded and sent metal chunks into the camshaft knocking the reluctant wheel out of position causing the car to shut down and lose brakes and power steering. There were no prior engine codes or warning. multiple mechanics verified this and it is a known issue. Gm needs to deal with this and should put out a recall. such a new vehicle should not need motor work at 70k miles!!

The sun roof shade is inoperable. The sunshade retracts, but does not go back into the roof so the whole shade hangs down. This completely blocks the view of the driver out the back window and is a severe safety risk. Even when the sunshade is "closed" the material hangs down, continuing to block the drivers view out of the back window. The shade has come off the tracks and unglued. The issue has been confirmed as inoperable and an internal fault in the roof shade assembly by a Chevrolet dealership and needing to be replaced completely. I have taken it to several other shops around my city, and have been informed that this is a common problem that is being referred back to dealerships for fixing. There was no prior warning sign, and my car has been experiencing this issue since July 2023.

When washing the vehicle through a standard car wash (Mister) in Minnetonka, MN 55345. The vehicle takes on gallons of water. This seems completely inappropriate. A car built in 2018 should be able to be washed. Taking on gallons of water on all areas of the floor board is unacceptable and ultimately a quality concern for mold and rust longer term.

At 12pm on June 11, 2023 I was parked in a church sparking lot in East Rochester and was facing the church's stone wall. My vehicle was only 2 feet from the was when the car accelerated toward the wall and all of the airbags opened and the hood and side panels were affected causing the vehicle was considered totaled by my insurance. My foot was on the brake and I was preparing to put the car in park when the car lurched forward and hit the wall at a high rate of speed. GM examined the car and gave me a report I could not understand but their report indicated that there was not a vehicle defect. I find this highly improbable. Auto stop caused Service Brake Assist warning to pop up on dash. Resolved on its own. A week later, steering assist disabled message pops up while driving and car didn't start after coming to a stop. Service ESC, Traction off, service brake assist messages, all pop up. Car did not restart. Vehicle is currently at Cooley Chevrolet in Irving, TX awaiting results of tests. Obviously, this is a common issue judging from the number of complaints on the Internet about it.

Was driving down the road and had just hit about 50mph at 4k rpms when suddenly the car started shaking and the check engine light started flashing, i knew immediately it was just a misfire, HOWEVER then the car immediately locked up brakes on full blast and engine cut off. Almost caused a mass accident let alone launching all my stuff. Then i turned the car back on and it drove fine for 20 miles. Just before i got home i am starting to try and stop at a stop sign. Hit the brake and the brake went all the way in with no pressure. A car is coming my car wont stop and im laying on my horn. Car finally got brakes again and boom the car stopped. Got home and ran the codes and it was Abs, t/c, stability lignts all on, airbag system, stability trac, anti lock + braking system, engine and tranny on my chevy app all said “service immediately” rear differential clutch control, electronic brake control module all showed up when i ran the code reader. Was extremely terrifying!! Im going into the dealership tomorrow to get it looked at

I constantly get error messages When the ambient (outside) temperature exceeds 100 degrees. The lane keeping assist, the forward collision sensors, etc. When it gets below freezing, the forward collision sensors, the brake assist and the service indicators go bonkers.

I purchased my 2018 Chevrolet equinox on July3rd, 2018 with 2 miles on it. Current mileage 67,900 Stop/start system design defect. I have had to have my vehicle battery replaced 4 times in 4 years of ownership. The battery has failed again at 67,900 miles on 12/13/2022 which will be the 5th battery in its lifetime. My dealership said that due to the climate and road conditions where I live my stop/start system has been killing my battery cell every 16,975 miles causing my battery to fail. Chevrolet originally extended my warranty for 6months/ or 60k miles. They said they can no longer extend my warranty and that I’d be responsible for the next battery and future battery’s.

I have purchased a 2018 Chevy equinox. It was damaged on the back bumper (rebuilt title). The backup camera works fine but there is a side detection error that comes on everytime I start the vehicle. The shop replaced the entire harness however that did not fix the issue. I have read 1000's of complaints on this. My vehicle has 45000 miles. This is effecting my gas mileage as well as other safety features. I see this has been an issue in MANY GM models and it has been taken care ( special warranty) but not on a 2018 equinox as of yet. I want to report this problem and see if someone can look into all the other forums etc to see how widespread this really is. The light has came on a few times lately but only when I am parked and not going anywhere??? Thanks in advance.

We were driving at night I had turned on the overhead cabin light and when I turned on the overhead cabin light so my wife could hand food to our are sun and behind us the At the same time that I push the button the sunshade started to go and so I let it go but then it got jammed and it started to crank so I pushed the button in it started to go and reverse and then it like Jim in it aint like you know the motor growing sound and like there's a big shatter we thought that it was the glass from the moon roof shuttering turned out it was just like the plastic piece it was like holding the shade in place and so And so then to get that repaired they had to take the roof off take the rails out to get to the little plastic piece to call that plastic piece an external trim fastener so if it was an internal fastener it would be covered if it was because it was a fascinary if it was because it was a fascinator if it was because it's trim I don't know what trim you have to pull a roof off and pull rails out to it to find but that is why they didn't call it cover it

While driving the traction and stability lights came on along with the ESC service light. Also my Lane assist stopped working. It stayed on for at Least 30 mins until I turned off the car and restarted. Stopped at the closest garage and they checked the battery and used a scan tool to identify that it had a fault code U0121 Lost Communication with Anti-lock Brake System Module.

Was heading to run some errands and when I parked my car I try to release my seat belt buckle and it was not releasing. So I had a knife and I tried wiggling it so the buckle would release and it did not so I was frustrated and broke the seatbelt for driver as well as my rear seat belt. My transmission has been acting weird since 2019 and it happen every morning when it starts running my car shakes for a little then it would run fine. And for brakes my brakes would hesitate and shake as is braking.

HAD THE DIESEL SYSTEM CLEANED BY DEALER, LIGHT STILL COMES ON AND OFF. CAR HAS 42K MILES, EXPERTLY MAINTAINED. DEALER WANTS $135 TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM THAT THEIR OWN DOCUMENTS SAY THERE IS NO SOLUTION FOR. ON STAR DIAGNOSES FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND DIDN'T EVEN SHOW THE 'CHECK ENGINE LIGHT' AS BEING ON. SIMILAR REPORTS FROM OTHERS ONLINE INVOLVING THE 1.6L DIESEL. MESSAGE: I OWN A 2018 CHEVROLET EQUINOX, 4 CYLINDER WITH ELECTRONIC STEERING, THE VEHICLE HAS APPROX 27500 MILES RECORDED. WHILE DRIVING I SENSED A SLIGHT DELAY IN THE STEERING, IT APPEARS TO BE ONLY A MILLISECOND DELAY AND DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. IN ADDITION THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO WONDER LEFT OR RIGHT WHEN STEERING WHEEL IS NOT HELD FIRMLY. I REPORTED THE ISSUE TO BLAIZE ALEXANDER PHILLIPSBURG PA SERVICE MGR. AND ASKED IF THERE WAS A REPORTED ISSUE WITH THE STEERING. THEIR RESPONSE WAS NO. BUT SUGGESTED TO SCHEDULE AN APT. AFTER ARRIVING HOME I SEARCHED THE ISSUES ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND SEVERAL REPORTS OF STEERING PROBLEMS WITH 2018 CHEVROLET EQUINOX CAUSING NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL FAILURES. AFTER CONSULT WITH INDEPENDENT GM CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN IT WAS LEARNED THAT THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT ISSUES WITH ELECTRONIC STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER THIS DAY, THE RESULTS OF THE INSPECTION WAS THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AS ALL PARAMETERS WERE WITHIN SPEC. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT INTO THE SHOP AT LEAST THREE TIMES WITH COMPLAINTS OF SQUEAKING FROM BRAKES MIRROR ALERT PROBLEMS TRUNK STICKING AND THE SUSPENSION HAS GOTTEN WORSE SINCE I FIRST STARTED DRIVING IT I'M NOTICING IT. EVERY TIME I COMPLAIN THEY TELL ME NOTHING IS WRONG EXCEPT FOR AT THE BEGINNING OF MY LEASE IT HAD TO BE TAKEN IN FOR REPAIRS. WE DROVE THE CAR ABOUT 30 MILES AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN WITHOUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. WE VIDEOED WHAT HAPPENED. DEALERSHIP COULD NOT REPLICATE AGAIN BUT STILL ARE WORKING ON IT. THEY HAVE CALLED CHEVY IN TEXAS AND THERE MAY BE AN ONGOING TRANSMISSION ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. GM TECH ASSIST SITED SIMILAR ISSUES HAVING DEBRIS IN TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY. DEBRIS WILL CLEAR AND GET TRAPPED IN FILTER AS DESIGNED. THIS OCCURRED DRIVING ON A COMBINATION OF HIGHWAY, CITY STREETS,AND COUNTRY ROADS. VEHICLE HAS 5100 MILES TO DATE.

2018 EQUINOX PREMIER SUNROOF GAVE OUT ON ME 5 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING BRAND NEW. GM HAS HAD MY CAR FOR 3 MONTHS AND HAS NOT FOUND A FIX. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE CAR WAS STATIONARY OR MOTION. THE SUNROOF AND THE PRIVACY SCREEN WILL STOP OPENING/CLOSING. THEY HAVE REPLACED ALL THE WIRES AND THE ENTIRE SUNROOF AND NEW MOTORS AND IT STILL DOESNT WORK. GM CUSTOMER CARE IS NOT WORKING WITH ME AND SAYS THAT BASICALLY THEY WON'T HAVE A TIME WHEN I WILL GET MY CAR BACK. THEY AREN'T HELPING ME WITH A TRADE IN EITHER. THE DEALERSHIP IS HELPING ME (BRAVO AT LAS CRUCES NM). BUT GM THEMSELVES AREN'T TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY WHEN IT SOLELY IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. I CONTINUED TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE, BUT IT CONTINUED TO BE LOCKED. WHEN I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME THE AIRBAGS DID NOT INFLATE. WHEN THE CAR STOPPED THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO BE LOCKED. WHEN THE OFFICERS ARRIVED THEY LOOKED AT THE BRAKE PEDDLE AND THEY WERE STILL LOCKED IN PLACE.
