I WAS DRIVING HOME ON MEMORIAL DAY 2014 PULLING MY BOAT AND TRAILER. TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED OUTSIDE CRIVITZ, WI AND I HAD TO HIT MY BRAKE PEDAL. IT WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR - NO BRAKES AT ALL - CONTRARY TO THE GM INFO IN AN ARTICLE I READ ON YAHOO. I QUICKLY HIT THE SHOULDER, FORTUNATELY WIDE AND HARD, AND COASTED INTO A MINI MALL IN CRIVITZ. DOWN SHIFTED AS I WENT AND HIT THE EMERGENCY IN THE MALL LOT. FEEL VERY FORTUNATE THAT MY WIFE AND I ARE ALIVE AS WELL AS THOSE IN FRONT OF US. BOTH BACK BRAKE LINES WERE BLOWN AS WELL AS A FRONT. TRUCK IS MAINTAINED EVERY 3-4 MONTHS. GM IS FULL OF BEANS. I HAVE DRIVEN NUMEROUS CHEVROLET CARS IN EXCESS 0F 180,00 MILES WITHOUT ANY BRAKE LINE ISSUES. THIS TO ME IS FAULTY ENGINEERING. $1100+ TO REPAIR.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH AND APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO QUICKLY SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE SAFELY. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT DETERMINED THAT THE ABS HYDRAULIC UNIT WOULD NEED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INFORMED IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 00V345000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 00X001000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 185,000.

ON 3/21/12 I EXITED MY DRIVEWAY IN MY 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICKUP AND STOPPED AT MY MAIL BOX TO GET THE MORNING PAPER. WHILE STOPPED WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. SEVERAL PUMP ATTEMPTS FAILED TO ACHIEVE A FIRM PEDAL. UPON INSPECTION I NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE OF FLUID UNDER THE DRIVER??S SIDE JUST BEHIND THE FRONT WHEEL. LATER THAT EVENING I HAD MY WIFE PUMP THE BRAKES AND WITNESSED A SIGNIFICANT STREAM OF BRAKE FLUID SPEWING FROM A BUNDLE OF METAL BRAKE LINES LOCATED ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME RAIL, OPPOSITE THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I NOTICED ALL OF THE METAL BRAKE LINES WERE VISIBLY, AND SIGNIFICANTLY, CORRODED/RUSTED. THE LOCATION OF THE LINE RUPTURE WAS NOWHERE NEAR A JOINT, FITTING, OR LINE BEND. I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK USED IN OCTOBER OF 2008 FROM A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN DANVILLE, INDIANA WITH APPROXIMATELY 89,979 MILES ON IT. THE BODY, WHEELS, AND INTERIOR ARE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE AND WOULD LEND YOU TO BELIEVE THAT THE TRUCK WAS GENERALLY WELL MAINTAINED AND REGULARLY GARAGED. THIS TRUCK HAD 101,107 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE BRAKE LINE INCIDENT. I'VE DRIVEN THE TRUCK 11,128 MILES SINCE PURCHASE, IT'S ALWAYS STORED IN A GARAGE. THERE WERE NO VISIBLE LEAKS OR INDICATORS PRIOR TO BRAKE LINE RUPTURE. HAD I BEEN ACTUALLY DRIVING ON THE ROAD, OR WORSE YET TOWING A TRAILER OR HEAVY LOAD, THIS STORY COULD HAVE HAD A SIGNIFICANTLY MORE OMINOUS OUTCOME. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF SIMILAR STORIES TO MINE. IT APPEARS THESE TYPES?? INCIDENTS ARE MORE COMMON THAN I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT. THERE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN SOME GM PRODUCT DEFICIENCIES AND I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A MANDATORY SAFETY RECALL WITH RESTITUTION BEING MADE BY GM. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS SITUATION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY SHIFTING INTO A LOW GEAR AND DRIVING ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO LEAKING BRAKE FLUID AND THERE WAS CORROSION ON ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES. THE VEHICLE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR WAS IT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE . THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000.

WHILE ON VACATION IN THE OUTER BANKS NORTH CAROLINA THE BRAKES WENT OUT ON MY TRUCK. THERE WAS A LOT OF FLUID LEFT UNDER THE TRUCK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AROUND THE BEGINNING OF THE BED. I WAS ABLE TO SEE BRAKE FLUID SQUIRT OUT FROM THE BRAKE LINE WHEN MY WIFE WOULD PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK TO OUTER BANKS CHEVY FOR REPAIR. THEY TOLD ME THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE VERY RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAD THEM MAKE THE REPAIR FOR AROUND $1500. ON THE TRIP BACK TO MY HOME STATE THE BRAKES BECAME VERY SOFT AND CAUSED THE RETURN TRIP TO TAKE VERY LONG. I NEEDED TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER FOR MORE REPAIR. THE LOCAL DEALER STATED THAT THE ORIGINAL REPAIR WAS NOT DONE CORRECTLY AND NEEDED TO BE FIXED AGAIN. I THOUGHT GM WOULD COVER THE COST BECAUSE OF THE FACT THE ORIGINAL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AT A CHEVY DEALER. THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. I CONTACTED THE CORPORATE OFFICE AND WAS TOLD AFTER MANY CONVERSATIONS THAT THE SECOND REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE NOT GM PARTS. THE REPAIR OF THE BRAKE LINES IS CUSTOM BECAUSE GM DOES NOT MAKE REPLACEMENT BRAKE LINES AND A SERVICE TECH IS REQUIRED TO MANUALLY BEND AFTERMARKET LINES. I WAS REQUIRED TO PAY ADDITIONAL MONEY TO HAVE THE REPAIR COMPLETED AGAIN AND I AM NOW OUT OVER $2000. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN OK SINCE THE SECOND REPAIR. *TR

ON MY WAY HOME FROM A BOY SCOUT MEETING, I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE AN ELECTRIC MOTOR OR PUMP RUNNING CONTINUOUSLY AND THE CHECK ABS LIGHT WAS ON ON MY DASH BOARD OF MY 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD EXTENDED CAB 4X4. THE NEXT MORNING I TOOK IT TO A BRAKE SHOP AND THEY TESTED IT ON THE COMPUTER AND CONFIRMED THAT THE ABS SYSTEM HAD FAILED. IF GENERAL MOTORS PUT OUT A RECALL FOR THIS PART, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED AND NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICE. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THE ABS SYSTEMS FAILURE IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. A RECALL WAS ISSUED RE: UNWANTED LOW SPEED ACTIVATION OF THE ABS. PRIOR TO THE RECALL I HAD ALREADY HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED AND REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT AFTER THE RECALL WAS ISSUED. I WAS ADVISED THAT MY TRUCK WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BASED SOLELY ON THE FACT THAT IT IS CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN MARYLAND AND NOT REGISTERED IN THE SPECIFIC STATES LISTED. THIS TRUCK WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN PA AND WAS REGISTERED IN PA, THEN OH EXCLUSIVELY UNTIL FEB. 04 WHEN THE TRUCK WAS REGISTERED IN MARYLAND AS A RESULT OF A RELOCATION FROM OHIO. I AM SIMPLY STUNNED THAT GM IS EXCLUDING ME FROM THE RECALL. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND BOTTOM OF THE BARREL CUSTOMER SERVICE

ABS MOTOR CONTINUED TO RUN AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. HAD TO DISCONNECT THE 60 AMP FUSE TO PREVENT BATTERY FROM RUNNING DOWN. AM TOLD THAT THE ABS MODULE IS DEFECTIVE AND WILL COST WELL OVER $1000 OF MY MONEY TO REPAIR - THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. THIS FROM A CHEVY WITH 80,000 MILES?? MY FATHER FATHER-IN-LAW IS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND WAS DOING SOME WORK ON MY 1999 SILVERADO AND NOTICED THAT THE ABS MOTOR WAS CONTINUALLY RUNNING. TO STOP THIS HE HAD TO PULL THE FUSE. I RECENTLY DROVE MY TRUCK FROM MINNESOTA TO CALIFORNIA AND ON NUMBEROUS OCASSIONS I HAD TROUBLE STOPPING. I HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK STILL WAS SLOW TO REACT. MOST OF THE TIME THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME, BUT THERE WERE A COUPLE TIMES WHEN I ALMOST REAR ENDED SOMEONE. I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE I LIVE IN OVERSEAS. THE TRUCK IS LEFT IN MINNESOTA AND I DRIVE IT WHENEVER I AM HOME FOR VACATION. ONCE I MOVE HOME NEXT YEAR I WILL HAVE TO DO SOMETHING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IF CHEVY HASN'T SENT OUT A RECALL. HOW MANY STORIES LIKE THIS DOES IT TAKE FOR CHEVROLET TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT? HOW MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE TO BE SUBMITTED ABOUT AN ABS MOTOR THAT WON'T STOP RUNNING UNLESS THE FUSE IS PULLED? I WAS DRIVING TO MY HOME FROM WORK WHEN I NOTICED AN EXCESSIVE KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK. I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY LOOKED AT THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND AROUND BOTH TIRES. THAT'S WHEN I SAW THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT UPPER SHOCK MOUNT HAD BROKEN FREE FROM THE FRAME. THE SHOCK WAS JUST BANGING FREELY AGAINST THE FRAME. THE TRUCK IS 15 YEARS OLD SO I KNOW ITS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THAT'S JUST POOR CONSTRUCTION. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN MY DAILY DRIVER AND HAS NEVER BEEN OFFROAD. JUDGING FROM THE OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE FRAME CRACKING AND/OR BREAKING THAT I'VE READ, I'M ASSUMING GM ISN'T GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT'S JUST SAD. WHILE ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK MY 1999 SILVERADO S ABS BRAKES WENT OFF AND WOULD NOT STOP. HIT MY HOUSE. CALLED GM SAID THEY NEVER HERD OF THEIR TRUCKS DOING THIS. WELL DID SOME RESEACH AND FOUND THEIR WAS A PROBLEM WITH CORROSION ON THE ABS SENSOR WHICH WOULD SET OFF THE ABS 4 NO REASON. IT WAS SCARY AND IS A HUGE GM PROBLEM.. FOUND MY TRUCK WAS FIXED AT ONE POINT BUT IT STILL HAPPEND AGAIN.. IT IS FIXED AGAIN. BUT I KNOW IT WILL HAPPEN SOME TIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE.. WHICH IS SCARY TO THINK I COULD HAVE RAN INTO A SCHOOL BUS OR KID AND KILLED THEM. GM DID FIX MY TRUCK. AND PAY 4 THE HOUSE TO BE REPAIRD.. I DONT WANT TO SUE OR BE COMPENSATED ANY FURTHER!!!!! I JUST WANT THEM TO HAVE TO FIX THESE TRUCKS OR PULL THEM OFF THE ROAD!! I DID NOT KNOW AT THE TIME OF INCODENT THAT YOU GUYS EXHISTED.. SO THIS IS WHY I AM REPORTING NOW.. AND IF SOMTHING HAPPENS LATTER I HAVE PROOFF THAT I COMPLAINED. I AM A PA STATE INSPECTION MECHANIC. AND WILL GIVE MY LISCENSE NUMBER IF ASKED TO.. I SEE THIS HAPPEN TO MUCH! IT STUCK AT THE IDLE POSITION AND TOOK CONSIDERABLE EFFORT TO GET IT TO "UNSTICK". THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY CLAIMING THE ORIGINAL HAD A BUR, THAT CAUSED IT TO STICK. NOW, SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES LATER, THE NEW THROTTLE BODY IS EXHIBITING THE SAME BEHAVIOR. IT SEEMS OBVIOUS THAT I DIDN'T HAVE ONE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY, BUT ALL THROTTLE BODYS AT THE TIME HAD A DEFECT. I KNOW THAT THERE ARE MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. I HAVE A 1999 CHEVY SILVERADO THAT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH PISTON SLAP. THIS ALL STARTED SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 1999. HOWEVER, THE DEALER REFUSED TO FIX IT, STATING THAT IT IS NORMAL NOISE. (NORMAL? THEN WHY DIDN'T THE ENGINE MAKE THIS NOISE WHEN I FIRST DROVE IT OFF THE LOT)? I CONTINUED ASKING THE DEALER ABOUT THE NOISE BUT THEY CONTINUED TO SAY THAT IT WAS NORMAL NOISE. FINALLY, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER GM DEALER ON APRIL, 2004. THE VEHICLE HAD 48,799 MILES. I ASKED THE MECHANIC AND SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TO LISTEN TO THE ENGINE, BOTH DETERMINED THE NOISE WAS NOT NORMAL, AND NEEDED REPAIRED. THEY PERFORMED NUMEROUS ENGINE REPAIRS THAT SEEMED, AT THAT TIME, TO MAKE THE NOISE GO AWAY. IN JUNE, 2004, THE VEHICLE NOW HAD 49,023 MILES, THE NOISE HAD RETURNED, AND THE GM DEALER AGAIN STATED THE NOISE WAS NOT NORMAL. THEY THEN REPLACED THE LONG BLOCK OF THE ENGINE, THAT SEEMED TO HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE PROBLEM. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ADJUST THE DRIVER'S SEAT IN MY 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCK, I FOUND THE SEAT WOULD NOT LOCK IN PLACE. MOVING THE SEAT BACK AND FORTH IN AN EFFORT TO LOCK IT, SOMETHING APPEARED TO BREAK CAUSING THE SEAT TO MOVE QUICKLY FORWARD, PINNING ME AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL. I LATER FOUND A SMALL PLASTIC FRAGMENT ON THE FLOOR AND ASSUMED IT WAS PART OF THE TRACK LOCKING SYSTEM. THE SEAT NOW WAS COMPLETELY FREE IN ITS MOVEMENT FORWARD AND BACKWARD, EXTENDING TO THE LIMIT IN EACH DIRECTION. I TOOK THE BROKEN PIECE TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS, INDEED, PART OF THE "SEAT ADJUSTMENT" MECHANISM, AND, WHEN BROKEN, THE SEAT WOULD MOVE WITHOUT RESTRICTION FORWARD OR BACKWARD. WHEN I QUESTIONED WHY SUCH A CRITICAL PIECE OF EQUIPMENT WAS NOT MADE OF METAL (INSTEAD OF PLASTIC), I WAS TOLD THAT "YES, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN." HAD THIS FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS, IF NOT FATAL, CONSEQUENCES. ONCE THE PART BREAKS, ANY APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES WILL IMMEDIATELY SLAM THE DRIVER FORWARD INTO THE STEERING WHEEL WITH CONSIDERABLE FORCE. THE OPPOSITE EFFECT IS ALSO FELT WHEN ACCELERATING. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE PART BROKE BEFORE I HAD LEFT THE CURB. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DESIGN AND SYSTEM. THESE PARTS SHOULD BE MANUFACTURED FROM HARDENED STEEL INSTEAD OF PLASTIC MATERIAL (EVEN NYLON.) AT BEST THE SURPRISED DRIVER IS IMMEDIATELY AND TOTALLY DISTRACTED; AT WORST, HE IS TOTALLY INCAPABLE OF MAINTAINING CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE, BEING SLAMMED FORWARD AND BACKWARD AS HE APPLIES BRAKING OR ACCELERATION. THE COST OF REPAIR OF THIS CONDITION IS APPROXIMATELY $400. AND SHOULD NOT BE BORNE BY THE CONSUMER. The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 00V097000 (Seat Belts); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the driver's side seat belt was not functioning properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver's side seat belt assembly had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts not being available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 418,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

(1) NONE (2) INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD GO HAY-WIRE. ANY OR ALL THE GAUGES WOULD BE PEGGED FOR NO REASON AND THEN EITHER GO DEAD OR START WORKING AGAIN. (3) IT WAS "SO CALLED REPAIRED" TWICE UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS WAITING FOR IT TO GO COMPLETELY OUT SO THEY COULD SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. IT WENT OUT FOR GOOD ABOUT 6/20/02. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND HE SAID IT HAD TO BE REMOVED AND SENT BACK TO GM FOR REPAIR. I GOT MY TRUCK BACK ON 6/28. HE TOLD ME IT WOULD BE AROUND 500.00 FOR THE REPAIR. I TOLD HIM, AND HE HAD IT ON RECORD BECAUSE I HAD IT "REPAIRED" THE 2 TIMES UNDER WARRANTY THAT I DIDN'T FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING BECAUSE I FELT IT WS NEVER REPAIRED CORRECTLY IN THE FIRST PLACE. HE SAID THE BEST HE COULD DO WAS CHARGE ME AROUND 250.00. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY BECAUSE HE WOULDN'T RELEASE MY TRUCK BACK TO ME.....I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM ON ALOT OF OTHER TRUCKS, SUV'S ETC IN THE GM LINE. DT: THE CONTACT STATES HE WAS WORKING ON A VEHICLE IN CUSTOMER CAR SHOP IN MIAMI. HE WAS TAKING THE DOORS OFF WHEN WITHIN 15 MINUTES TO A 1/2 HOUR HE SMELLED SMOKE. THERE HAS BEEN A FAILURE BY BREAKAGE IN ONE OF THE TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES, WHICH COMPLETELY FRACTURED AFTER CORROSION. AS A RESULT OF THIS HAPPENING I OBSERVED THE SECOND SUPPORT CABLE, AND SEE IT IS WEAKENED BY CORRISION, AND WILL FRACTURE THE SAME WAY. THIS BREAKAGE OCCURRED AFTER OPENING THE TRUCK TAILGATE, AND FORTUNATELY OCCURRED BEFORE I WAS GOING TO JUMP INTO THE BOX OF THE TRUCK. BREAKAGE OF THE SECOND CABLE WILL RESULT IN THE TAILGATE DROPPING OFF, CAUSING POSSIBLE INJURY.

WHILE HAVING MY BRAKES CHECKED BY MY MECHANIC ON MY 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO A PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED WITH THE GAS TANK STRAPS. ONE STRAP HAD CORRODED COMPLETELY THROUGH AND WAS BROKEN AND THE OTHER STRAP WAS ALSO CORRODED AND JUST ABOUT READY TO GIVE AWAY ALSO. THIS LEFT THE GAS TANK HANGING DOWN AT LEAST 6 TO 7 INCHES IF NOT MORE. MY MECHANIC HAS ORDERED NEW STRAPS FOR THE GAS TANK AND TEMPORARILY WIRED THE GAS TANK BACK UP TO PREVENT IT FROM FALLING OFF THE PICKUP TRUCK WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I WENT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP IN TOWN . THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST THEY HAVE EVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF. I THAN CALLED GM TO REPORT THE SITUATION AND FILE A COMPLAINT ON IT. I EXPLAINED THE ENTIRE SITUATION TO THEM INCLUDING THE MECHANICS NAME, BUSINESS ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER THAT THEY COULD CALL FOR VERIFICATION OF THE INFORMATION. I WAS CONCERNED THAT THIS SITUATION COULD HAPPEN TO SOMEONE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH A FULL TANK OF GAS UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAVE THEIR GAS TANK FALL OFF CAUSING A FIRE OR EXPLOSION ON THE ROAD. WHEN THEY ASKED ME WHAT I WANTED TO RESOLVE THE SITUATION. I TOLD THE LADY IT WOULD BE NICE TO GET REIMBURSED TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED. SHE SAID THAT PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAPPEN DUE TO NOT HAVING A CHEVY DEALER FIX THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE VEHICLE HAD TOO MANY MILES ON IT. I REEMPHASIZED THE REASON FOR MAKING THIS CALL WAS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT I HAD ABOUT THIS POSSIBLY CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT FOR SOMEONE WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I ALSO STATED THAT THIS WAS TOO NEW OF A VEHICLE FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM TO OCCUR REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE AND THAT I FELT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A FACTORY DEFAULT. I WOKE UP TO A DEAD BATTERY YESTERDAY ON MY 1999 Z71 SILVERADO. I JUMPED THE VEHICLE AND DROVE TO THE LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE TO REPLACE THE BATTERY SINCE IT WAS THE ORIGINAL AND I DID NOT WANT TO GET STRANDED IN 0 DEGREE WEATHER. IN ROUTE, MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND A LOUD MOTOR SOUND CAME FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THIS NOISE DID NOT CEASE ONCE I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. I REPLACED THE BATTERY & DROVE TO MY DEALER. HE OPENED THE HOOD AND PULLED THE ABS FUSE AND SAID "YOU CAN FIX IT THIS WAY OR THE EXPENSIVE WAY FOR $1500." I PLAN ON KEEPING THE VEHICLE FOR A COUPLE MORE YEARS AND DRIVE THREE SMALL CHILDREN IN THIS VEHICLE SO SAFETY IS OF MY UTMOST CONCERN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ECBM FOR OVER $1100. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE AS WELL AS NUMEROUS OTHER FORUMS. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. GM NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND ISSUE AT LEAST A RECALL TO INSPECT THESE UNITS AS THEY ARE IN AN AREA ON THE VEHICLE THAT IS SUBJECT TO ROAD DEBRIS & CORROSION. GOOD MORNING, I OWN A 1999 SILVERADO, LONG BED, WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND I AM HAVING A FEW PROBLEMS, ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED... The contact owned a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, he dozed off as the vehicle drifted off to the right shoulder of the highway. The contact regained alertness once the vehicle drove over the highway's rumble strip. As the contact attempted to regain control of the vehicle; the vehicle crashed into a tree. The contact's face smashed into the steering wheel as both the driver's seat belt shoulder strap and the driver's air bag failed to operate as needed. Moments after smashing his head into the steering, the contact stated that the air bag deployed with a delay which caused severe cuts to the contact's face. The contact was taken to the hospital by ambulance where he was treated for multiple severe injuries. Due to the air bag failure, the contact suffered a severe laceration that started from the right corner of the contact's mouth and extended to the contact's left earlobe. The contact suffered another laceration that started from the center of his bottom lip and curved down to the left side of his chin. In addition, the contact suffered a right orbital socket fracture, two vertebrae fractures in the neck, a torn right shoulder, multiple torn tendons in the right arm and five broken teeth. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed from the scene to an independent tow yard where it was destroyed. The dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

THROTTLE LINKAGE HAS SHOWN INCREASING PEDAL EFFORT TO MOVE ACCELERATOR FROM THE IDLE POSITION. THE ABS BRAKES WERE USED FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS PAST WINTER SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK. AFTER THEY CAME ON, THE PUMP NEVER SHUT OFF EVEN AFTER I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF AT WORK. I HAD TO PULL THE ABS FUSE IN ORDER FOR THE HYDRAULIC PUMP TO SHUT DOWN. TWO CHEVROLET DEALERS HAVE TOLD ME THAT I NEED A NEW COMPUTER COMPONENT (MODULE) AND PUMP THAT IS ONLY SOLD TOGETHER. I WAS DRIVING AT AROUND 35 MPH WHEN I TRIED TO BRAKE AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. I TRIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THAT WOULDN'T WORK EITHER. I ROLLED TO A STOP AND CALLED A TOWING COMPANY. THE DEALER(HUFFINES CHEVROLET STATED THAT A SWITCH IN THE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED. VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY BUT I HAD TO PAY A $250 DEDUCTIBLE. SECOND OCCASION I HAD TO PAY $280 AND VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIRD OCCASION, IT HAS BEEN ONLY SIX MONTHS SINCE LAST REPAIR WAS MADE. REPAIR HAS NOT BEEN MADE OF THIS DATE 11-13-03. THE ABS SYSTEM/PUMP MADE A TERRIBLE SOUND AND THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO STATED JUST TO UNPLUG THE ABS POWER SUPPLY BUT THE BRAKES WERE FINE. ANOTHER FRIEND, JULIAN SCAFF, HAS THE SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR TRUCK AND HAS HAD THE EXACT ABS FAILURE. BOTH WERE AT APPROX. 45,000 MILES. I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR BRAKES LOCKING UP AND NOT UNLOCKING FOR A FEW MINUTES. THIS HAS CAUSED UNTOLD WEAR AND REDUCED FUEL MILAGE CONSIDERABLY. THESE ARE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES.

BRAKES: SINCE APPROXIMATELY 136,000 MILES TO PRESENT MILES, THE VEHICLE HAS EXHIBITED AN ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY ON THE DASH. THIS IS A KNOWN GM ISSUE THAT WAS RECALLED IN CERTAIN STATES, BUT NOT ALL. IT STEMS FROM FAULTY SOLDERING POINTS IN THE ABS CONTROL MODULE AND CAN AFFECT THE VEHICLES ABILITY TO STOP CORRECTLY WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. ENGINE/ EMISSIONS: THE PASSENGER SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT HAS BROKEN OFF. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS 5.3L ENGINE AS WELL AS THE 4.8L AND 6.0L ENGINES. WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AT 28MPH AND PRESSING THE BRAKE, THE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. AFTER FINALLY GETTING THE VEHICLE TO STOP, I GOT OUT AND SAW A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID FORMING A FEW FEET BEHIND THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL. FURTHER INSPECTION FOUND ALL BREAK LINES SEVERELY RUSTED AND A BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED JUST ABOVE THE FRAME RAIL. I DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY WARNING LIGHT PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT VEHICLES HAVE TWO BRAKE SYSTEMS (FOUNT AND REAR) AND IF ONE FAILED YOU STILL HAD THE OTHER TO STOP YOU? I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IN OHIO FOR MY WIFE [XXX], SHE REPORTED THAT THE ABS BRAKE WOULD SIMPLY NOT WORK ON ACCASION AND THE PEDAL WOULD GO STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR .WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER BUT HE COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM . AT LOWS SPEEDS I WAS ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. DEALERS DOWN HERE SAY THE SENSOR IS BAD. WE PULLED THE FUSE TO DISABLE THE BRAKES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS NEW BECAUSE A DELPHI ENGINEER TOLD ME THAT WOULD AT LEAST KEEP THE BRAKES WORKING . THE RECORDS AT JIM DOUGLAS CHEVOLET EVIDENCE THE EXPENSES WE HAVE INCUURED TO KEEP THE TRUCK OPERATIONAL. GM 1999 SILVERADO ANIT LOCK BRAKE UNIT WOULD NOT SHUT OFF EVEN WHEN TRUCK WAS SHUT OFF. I TRIED TO DISCONNECT BATTERY AND BURNED FINGERS. TO CORRECT THE FAILURE PULLED THE FUSE, BUT BRAKES DO NOT STOP GOOD I HAVE TO PRESS REAL HARD TO STOP. THE PROBLEM WITH THE ABS BRAKE IS THAT THE PUMP MOTOR IS PRODUCING VOLTAGE SPIKES AND THE AMPLIFIER SHORTS AND WON'T SHUT OFF DRAWING HIGH CURRENT AND ANTI LOCK BRAKE FAILURE AND OVER HEATING OF BATTERY TERMINALS CAUSING BURNS WHEN TOUCHED. THIS WAS SO HOT THAT THE POST CAME OUT OF THE BATTERY. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM GM NEEDS TO CHANGE THE AMPLIFIER TO ORIGINAL FAILED 75 AMP PUMP MOTOR POWER AMPLIFIER WITH A DOUBLE DUTY RATED 104 AMP (360 AMP SURGE) DEVICE. ADD A 600 WATT HIGH SPEED VOLTAGE SUPPRESSOR TO PROTECT THE EBCM AND THE NEW AMPLIFIER SET FROM VOLTAGE SPIKES CREATED BY THE PUMP MOTOR AND JUMP STARTS. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS FIXED ON MY TRUCK BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A RECALL. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE THEM FIX THIS. YOU HAVE MANY LISTING OF THIS FAILURE ON YOUR SITE. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT SLIDE FORWARD WHILE STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN. WITHOUT ANY INDICATION, FRONT END OF VEHICLE LOCKED UP, CAUSING CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE. DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND STATED THAT SUBFRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK *NLM THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL WAS TORQUED SIDEWAYS AND BROKEN APART, CAUSING THE FRAME TO HAVE 2 BREAKS, THIS CAUSED THE FRONT TO LOCK UP, ALSO PRIOR TO THIS CONSUMER COMPLAINED OF A DELAY BETWEEN THE FORWARD AND REVERSE, WHEN A BUMP WAS FELT WHEN ACCELERATING, CONSUMER ALSO HEARD A CLUNK NOISE, DEALER DRAINED AND REPLACED THE TRANSFER CASE FLUID TWICE. THE ENGINE SPUTTERS IN 4 WHEEL LOW AND THERE IS A WHINE NOISE OR PULLEY NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. THE FRONT SEAT ARM REST FELL OFF. THE LEFT FRONT DAYTIME LAMP WAS FULL OF WATER DUE TO THE ASSEMBLY BEING IMPROPERLY SEALED AT THE FACTORY. THE BRAKES PULSATED AND PEDAL FELT SOFT, DEALER STATED THE RIGHT REAR CALIPER WAS STICKING AND THE FRONT AND REAR ROTORS WERE CORRODED BADLY, CAUSING THE BRAKE PADS TO WEAR. THE ELECTRIC BRAKE WAS INOPERABLE, DEALER INSTALLED A NEW PLUG, THE WIRING HARNESS WAS BADLY DAMAGED. THE POWER WINDOWS WERE INOPERABLE. THE LEFT DOOR CREAKS DUE TO FRONT DOOR LINK BEING LOOSE.
