How to read a Chevrolet Silverado VIN — every digit explained

Every Chevrolet Silverado carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.

1–3 · WMI4T1
4–8 · VDSBF1FK
9 · Check5
10 · YearH
11 · PlantU
12–17 · Serial123456
  • WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
  • VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
  • Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
  • Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
  • Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Silverado.
  • Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.

Model-year code (10th digit)

The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:

H2017 J2018 K2019 L2020 M2021 N2022 P2023 R2024 S2025 T2026

Where to find your Silverado VIN

  • Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
  • Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
  • Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
  • Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

Fix. All of the defective tow packages are still at the distributor level and have not been sold to any consumers.

Steering:hydraulic Power Assist:hose, Piping, And Connections05V455000

What's wrong. Certain passenger vehicles may have been built with a power steering hose that is not to specification. Under extreme steering maneuvers, such as turning the steering wheel fully to the left or right while braking, the hose may fracture and leak fluid.

Risk. If this were to occur, power steering assist would be lost and increased steering effort would be required. On vehicles equipped with hydro-boost power brakes, it could also result in loss of power brake assist and increased braking effort would be required. If the power steering fluid spray were to spray onto hot engine parts, an engine compartment fire could occur.

Fix. Dealers will inspect the power steering hose(s) for two suspect date codes and replace them if required. The recall will begin on october 14, 2005. Owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, gmc at 1-866-996-9463, buick at 1-866-608-8080, cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, isuzu at 1-800-255-6727, or hummer at 1-800-732-5493.

Risk. Lack of amber side reflectors in the lamps will decrease lighting visibility to other drivers and may possibly result in a vehicle crash.

Fix. Tradesonic will notify owners and replace the lamps free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during july 2006. Owners may contact tradesonic at 626-934-8884.

Wheels:rim06V307000

What's wrong. Certain sport utility vehicles and trucks fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 110, "tire selection and rims." these vehicles have an incomplete tire rim designation on the certification/tire label located on the driver's door edge. In addition, the label may also be missing the tire load rating on the label. Although this information is not required by the standard, if a tire of a lesser load rating is installed, the tire may not be able to sustain the loads encountered during use.

Risk. If a customer replaces a wheel and only relies on the rim size designation that is indicated on the label, a wheel that is of a different rim contour designation may be installed. It may be difficult or impossible to mount the tire on a wheel with the wrong contour. If the tire is mounted on the wheel with the wrong contour, the wheel and tire may not perform as intended, which could increase the risk of a crash.

Fix. A label that will correct the label originally installed will be mailed to consumers along with installation instructions. The customer will have the option for dealers to install the label. The recall begaon on november 7, 2006. Owners should contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2239, chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, and gmc trucks at 1-866-996-9463.

Fix. All of the defective tow packages are still at the distributor level and have not been sold to any consumers.

Parking Brake05V161000

What's wrong. On certain pickup trucks equipped with manual transmissions and built with either pbr parking brake systems or trw parking brake systems, the parking brake friction linings may wear to an extent where the parking brake can become ineffective in immobilizing a parked vehicle.

Risk. If the parking brake does not hold, unintended vehicle movement could occur, which could result in a crash.

Fix. Dealers will install a low-force spring clip retainer for vehicles equipped with a pbr parking brake system. On vehicles equipped with the trw parking brake system, dealers will install a redesigned parking brake cable assembly. The recall began on july 29, 2005. Owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or gmc at 1-866-996-9463.

Exterior Lighting06E064000

What's wrong. Certain tradesonic combination lamps sold as replacement lamps for use on the above listed passenger vehicles. Combination lamps not equipped with amber side reflectors fail to conform with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.

Service Brakes, Hydraulic05V043000

What's wrong. Certain trucks, sport utility vehicles, and vans equipped with bosch hydro-boost brake assemblies, the hydraulic brake booster pressure accumulator may crack and separate from the hydro-boost assembly during normal operating conditions.

Risk. If a separation occurred and the hood of the vehicle were open, fragments from the accumulator could cause injury to people in the immediate area. The presence of this crack or fractured surface could allow the hydraulic fluid to leak from the accumulator circuit of the booster assembly. The loss of fluid would cause increased steering and braking effort and a crash may occur without prior warning.

Fix. Dealers will test the hydro-boost assembly for functional operation of the two-function valve. If the hydro-boost assembly fails the test, dealers will replace the assembly free of charge. The recall began on march 23, 2005. Owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, gmc trucks at 1-866-996-9463 and hummer at 1-800-732-5493.

Seat Belts:rear/other05V163000

What's wrong. On certain crew cab pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, the 2nd row center occupant seat belt routing may make it difficult to position the lap portion of the safety belt low around the hips of occupants, especially smaller occupants, seated in this position. Appropriate use of a child seat or booster seat, as recommended for small children, does improve the fit condition for this user group. In addition to instructions on proper infant and young child restraint (with child seats or boosters), special verbiage for restraining older child is included in the owner's manual. Also, the suggested seat belt fit/routing for adults, irrespective of seating position, is described in the owner's manual text.

Risk. A lap portion of the seat belt routing that is not low and snug on the hips can allow the lap belt to ride up on an occupant's abdomen instead of fitting low around their hipbones, and therefore, can expose them to more risk of abdominal and internal organ injury.

Fix. Dealers will cut open the guide loop, remove a portion of the loop, and then the remaining two sides should be folded over and secured with a retainer free of charge. The recall began on july 21, 2005. Owners may contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, gmc at 1-866-996-9463, or hummer at 1-800-732-5493.

Risk. Without the amber reflectors, the vehicle will be poorly illuminated, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.

Fix. Anzo will notify owners and replace the headlamps free of charge. The recall began may 9, 2006. Owners may contact anzo usa at 909-468-3688.

Fuel System, Gasoline:delivery:hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings04V376000

What's wrong. On certain sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks equipped with 5.3l (rpo l59) v8 engines, the engine fuel rail crossover tube retainer screws were not manufactured to specifications and may break.

Risk. If the tube retainer screw breaks, fuel could leak from the fuel rail crossover joint, the engine may stall and, if an ignition source were present, an engine compartment fire could occur.

Fix. Dealers will inspect the fuel rail crossover tube and, if necessary, replace the retainer screws. Owners were notified by telephone on july 30, 2004, with a followup owner letter began august 5, 2004. Owners should contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or gmc at 1-866-996-9463. Note: the gm bulletin lists the tahoe and yukon models because canadian vehicles are included in the bulletin. No u.s. Tahoe or yukon vehicles are included in the u.s. Campaign.

Engine And Engine Cooling06V289000

What's wrong. On certain trucks equipped with an 8.1l v8 (rpo l8-vin g) engine have a condition in which the engine fuel rail pulse damper retainer clip may fracture resulting in inadequate retention of the damper.

Risk. If the damper comes loose, a fuel leak may result. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.

2004 Chevrolet Silverado recalls 15

Seat Belts:front:anchorage04V225000

What's wrong. Certain extended and regular cab pickup trucks and cargo vans converted to compressed natural gas (cng) fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 225, 'child restraint anchorage systems.' these vehicles have one seating position, the center rear seat, equipped with child restraint lower anchorages.

Risk. The standard requires child seat lower anchorages in two seating positions for vehicles with three rear seating positions. The standard cab and cargo van vehicles, which only have front seating positions, have an air bag off switch to disable the front passenger air bag and do not have child restraint lower anchorages in the passenger seat. The standard requires passenger seat child seat lower anchorages in vehicles with an air bag off switch. However, the standard does not require vehicles with only front seating positions to have lower anchorage provisions if the vehicle is not equipped with an air bag off switch.

Fix. To bring the standard cab and cargo van vehicles into compliance, dealers will inject epoxy into the air bag off switch to prevent air bag activation, relocate the switch behind the instrument panel and then install a cover over the resulting opening. The sun visor label and owner's manual will also be changed. The correction for the extended cab vehicle will consist of changing the front passenger seat to a seat that has child restraint lower anchorages. The recall began on september 9, 2004. Owners should contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or gmc at 1-866-996-9463.

Structure:body:tailgate:hinge And Attachments04V129000

What's wrong. On certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, the galvanized steel tailgate support cables that retain the tailgate in the full open (horizontal) position may corrode, weaken, and eventually fracture. If both cables fractured, the tailgate would suddenly drop and strike the top surface of the rear bumper.

Risk. Anyone sitting or standing on the horizontal surface of the tailgate when both cables fractured could be injured by falling from the tailgate. On vehicles that have had the bumper removed, the tailgate may drop even lower. Additionally, if there is cargo on the tailgate the cargo may fall off if the support cables fracture.

Fix. Dealers will replace the cables. Interim owner notification began on april 7, 20004. The recall began on september 24, 2004, when replacement parts were available, and will continue through october 29, 2004. Owners should contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or gmc at 1-866-996-9463, or visit www.mygmlink.com, and enter your vehicle identification number.

Equipment04E022000

What's wrong. Aftermarket pickup truck over-the-rail bedliners manufactured for installation on 1999-2004 chevrolet silverado and gmc sierra pickup trucks. The toggle wing assembly used to attach the bedliner to the truck bed is not engaging fully in the stake pocket of the pickup truck.

Risk. The bedliner can become detached from the pickup while it is motion, possibly endangering following motorists or pedestrians.

Fix. Durakon will issue a press release in attempt to notify customers that could have purchased the defective bedliner. If you purchased either a durakon allstar of patriot overrail bedliner since august 1, 2003, for 1999 to 2004 chevrolet silverado or gmc sierra trucks, or purchased one of these pickup trucks with either brand bedliner already installed, you should return to an authorized durakon dealer so that the bedliner can be inspected and, if necessary, repaired with a newly designed toggle wing fastening system, or if required, replaced with a new bedliner free of charge. Please call the durakon hotline at 1-800-933-4200 to find the nearest authorized durakon dealer.

Service Brakes, Hydraulic04V045000

What's wrong. Certain sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, and passenger vans fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 135, ?passenger car brake systems.? Some of these vehicles were produced with an out-of-specification brake hydro-boost housing relief valve bore.

Risk. Consequently, the valve o-ring seal may fracture. Steering efforts may be slightly increased while braking or parking. Under certain driving conditions, a fractured seal may require a slight increase in the applied brake pedal effort to achieve the same vehicle deceleration rate as prior to the seat fracture.

Fix. Dealers are to replace the hydro-boost relief valve. The recall began on june 18, 2004. Owners should contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2339; chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438; gmc at 1-866-996-9463; or hummer at 1-866-486-6376.

Wheels:hub07E106000

What's wrong. Certain federal-mogul replacement wheel hub assemblies with the brand names: national, carquest p/nos. 515020, 515021, 515025, 515053, 515054, 515059, and 515060, shipped between january 23, 2006, and december 20, 2007, sold for light duty and medium duty trucks. The inboard retention nut used to maintain hub bearing assembly can loosen resulting in an abs light indication, noise, and/or wheel separation.

Risk. Wheel separation can result in a vehicle crash.

Fix. Federal-mogul will notify customers and will replace the hub assembly free of charge. The recall began on february 7, 2008. Owners can contact federal-mogul toll-free at 877-489-6659.

Air Bags:frontal06V417000

What's wrong. Certain vehicles originally built with cloth seats that were equipped with an automatic air bag passenger sensing system and later reupholstered with aftermarket leather seat cover kits are involved. Testing has indicated that the aftermarket leather seat covers can cause the passenger sensing system to malfunction.

Risk. If the passenger sensing system malfunctions, the front air bag on the passenger side may be disabled when it should be enabled, or enabled when it should be disabled. In either case, in the event of a crash that requires air bag deployment, a front passenger's level of injury may be increased.

Fix. Because a replacement leather seat cover that is compatible with the passenger sensing system is not available, general motors (gm) will repurchase these vehicles in accordance with the terms stated in gm's letter to owners. The recall began on november 6, 2006. Owners should contact gm at 1-877-477-1022 to begin the process of repurchasing their vehicle.

Equipment:electrical07E066000

What's wrong. Certain cequent 90 degree 7-way right angle adaptors sold by distributors in tow packages for aftermarket sales to tow 5th wheel rv travel trailers. Due to incorrect wiring of the harness, the trailer lights may not operate properly.

Risk. If the trailer lights are not working properly, a vehicle crash can occur.

Exterior Lighting:headlights06E023000

What's wrong. Certain anzo combination headlamp assemblies sold as replacement lamps for use on certain passenger vehicles. Some combination lamps are not equipped with amber side reflectors which fail to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."

Risk. Without the amber reflectors, the vehicle will be poorly illuminated, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.

Fix. Anzo will notify owners and replace the headlamps free of charge. The recall began may 9, 2006. Owners may contact anzo usa at 909-468-3688.

2003 Chevrolet Silverado recalls 13

Service Brakes, Hydraulic:antilock/traction Control/electronic Limited Slip00V055000

What's wrong. Vehicle description: light duty pickup trucks equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes. Some of these vehicles have an antilock brake system (abs) motor containing an out-of-specification spring clip. This clip could allow the motor bearing to become misaligned. If misalignment occurs, eventually the abs would be non-functional.

Risk. The base brakes would remain fully functional, but the dynamic rear proportioning (drp) system, which optimizes front to rear brake balance, would become inoperative.

Fix. Dealers will replace the brake pressure module valve assembly.

Service Brakes, Hydraulic:foundation Components:disc:caliper00X001000

What's wrong. This is not a safety recall in accordance with the safety act. However, it is deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. Vehicle description: 1/2 ton light duty pickup trucks. On certain trucks, failure to follow the service procedure set forth in the service manual for removal of the front brake caliper can result in movement of the front brake hose relative to its knuckle mounting bracket. If this movement results in increased length between the bracket and the banjo fitting that attaches to the brake caliper, it is possible for the brake hose to come in contact with the wheel rim.

Risk. This contact with the wheel rim could, in time, cause the brake hose to become worn to the point that brake fluid leakage could occur. If this occurred, loss of front brakes is possible.

Fix. Dealers will attach a notice label to the front brake hoses stating that the calipers must be supported when removed.

Air Bags:frontal:sensor/control Module-inactive02V178000

What's wrong. On certain pickup and utility trucks, some of these vehicles have an air bag sensing diagnostic module (sdm) which contains an anomaly that could result in the driver and passenger's air bag failing to deploy during certain frontal crashes.

Risk. In a vehicle crash, front seat occupants may receive more severe injuries.

Fix. Dealers will recalibrate the sdm on the affected vehicles. Owner notification began august 28, 2002. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 or gmc at 1-800-462-8782.

Service Brakes, Hydraulic:antilock/traction Control/electronic Limited Slip05V379000

This recall will be launched in the "salt belt" states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maryland, massachusetts, maine, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin and the district of columbia only.

Risk. This can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications, which could result in a crash.

Fix. Dealers are to remove the wheel speed sensor and thoroughly clean the wheel speed sensor mounting surface on the bearing, apply rust inhibitor to the cleaned surface, grease the mounting surface, reinstall the wheel speed sensor, and check the peak-to-peak output voltage to ensure the wheel speed signal is within specifications. The recall began september 22, 2005. Owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or gmc at 1-866-996-9463.

Service Brakes, Hydraulic:foundation Components:hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings00V345000

What's wrong. Vehicle description: light duty pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. Some of these vehicles have a clearance condition between the front right-hand brake pipe and the body cross sill that could decrease to the point of allowing contact during the life of the vehicle. If contact occurs and the brake pipe becomes damaged, in half of the brake system there can be a loss of brake fluid and pressure. The brake warning lamp will be activated when the brake fluid level reaches the indicator limit.

Risk. During braking, the pedal will be lower than normal and stopping distances will be longer. If this occurs when stopping distance is limited, a crash could occur.

Fix. Dealers will inspect the front right-hand brake pipe for wear. If there are signs of wear, this section of the brake pipe will be replaced with a new designed brake pipe section. If there are not signs of wear on the brake pipe, the dealer will install a spacer clip to ensure sufficient clearance between the brake pipe and the body cross sill.

On december 13 of 2003 while on my way to work and traveling at a speed of approximately 30 mph in a 45 mph zone, traffic began coming to a stop at a traffic stop. When i tried to apply the brakes there was a loud "grinding" noise and i was unable to depress the brake pedal. As i continued to apply manimum pressure to the brake pedal the pedal suddenly went straight to the floor accompanied only by a loud "vacuum" sound. This brake failure resulted in a six car collision with four injuries. Despite numerous similar complaints from other consumers, the manufacturer's representatives continue to claim that there is nothing wrong with the brake system and the "problem" does not require a recall - what a joke. Are they waiting until someone is fatally injured?*ak

The Keyless Entry Receiver(GM) Radio Module in my 2007 Chevy Silverado is retaining moisture. It caused my Tire Pressure Monitoring System to fail eventually causing a blow out on the highway. We purchased a 2001 silverado ext in 7-01. Truck had about 16,000 miles on it, when we bought it new/used. Parking brake seemed to be really soft, but lot assured us, nothing was wrong with it and that the new technology we had with vehicle's, made it easier for elderly people and such. Yes the brake works great on level ground, but wait until you really need it like on a sloped driveway............. Or getting the vehicle inspected! This is when they really give you the works!!dealership wanted to charge us almost $200 to fix a 15 minute job, which should have been fixed while it was under warranty. We had an unfortunate incident, which resulted in the death of another person. To make a long story short, i feel it may have been prevented, if these(so called) great anti-lock brakes on gm vehicles did what they are supposed to do. We have encountered several occasions where the brakes go to the floor, get really spongy, even when constant pressure on pedal is maintained, and the result is erratic! What happened to the gmc/chevrolet brand?! ----p.s.- we were told this is a common complaint on the parking brake, but yet there is no recall on a safety defect?! By the way, gm this is the last vehicle purchase we will make from you. It seems the quality and safety factor mean nothing to your company anymore, without trying to make more money from the consumer...oh well, just one less customer!! *cb

Total electrical system shutdown due to failure/activation of passlock security system on 2000 chevrolet k2500 crew cab (7.4l engine/automatic/4x4) while vehicle is being operated at highway speed. Engine can not be restarted without bringing vehicle to complete stop and placing shifter in "park". Loss of life, serious injury, and/or loss of property can occur during performance of bringing vehicle to complete stop without engine power available. Incident occurred twice and without warning on 8/29/03 while at highway speeds. Dealer attempted repairs on 8/31/03 with guidance from chevrolet technical assistance. Suitability of repair not guaranteed by dealer. Owner requested dealer to disable passlock system. Dealer could not disable system and informed owner that chevrolet corporate would not provide dealer with information on how to service, repair, or disable passlock system. Dealer and chevrolet technical assistance determined that ignition switch could be at fault and causing voltage cutoff to passlock, thereby activating passlock. Dealer replaced ignition switch. Owner took possession of vehicle and drove 475 miles at which point complete electrical failure occurred on 8/1/03 and at highway speed. Vehicle was able to be restarted after bringing to complete stop, putting transmission in "park", and tightening battery positive electrical cable. Apparent cause of passlock activation was loss of battery voltage. Original diagnosis made by dealer and chevrolet technical assistance incorrect - ignition switch not at fault. Repeated attempts by owner to contact chevrolet customer assistance center on operational parameters of passlock system and disabling instructions unsuccessful. Owner notified by chevrolet that "we (general motors) will no longer address additional messages on this subject." dealer cooperative, but also unable to assist further. *nlm

I got out to find out that my passenger headlight and everything under the hood was on fire!! As i started to run for help, i tripped over a large size curb and landed on my face. My neck, shoulders and back have been difficult to move since this happened. I tried to lift the hood but that was too hot to do so, i ran into my friends house screaming for a fire extinguisher!! As i was running back to remove as much as i could out of the truck her husband came out with the fire extinguisher and she came with the hose. I now i can barely move my neck, my back is in severe pain, and my ribs hurt immensely. As i survived this life threatening ordeal, i started doing background checks on this type of vehicle and 124 deaths have occurred because of this gm problem. How is this not a class action law suit?!!

# 1 is the 4l60E transmission that sits on the exhaust and runs next to it on the opposite side the heat from the trans itself and the exhaust overheat the gasket which causes weak spots that leak along with burning up the 3-4 clutch. Lost everything but 1&2,R,N on trip to Illinois on way back went to speed up to pass and all sudden the engine started tacking out and leaking fluid. I applied fluid all the way home at a speed of 45mph in a 70 mph limit which caused a major safety hazard with traffic. Took to trans shop said the 3-4 clutch was fried and was no good due to overheating and loss fluid from damaged gasket that's split on the stamps from AC Delco. 2nd issue arises out 1rst, even more dangerous to point of dragging me down drive way and cutting into my leg leaving a small scar. When wheels are chalked , E brake applied the vehical should not move, so after doing so I climbed under and unhooked the shift cable from the trans instantly with dog in truck it began rolling right over me I grabbed the frame and stopped it for a few sec then boom it went again I had spin around or my legs or head would've be smashed to Oblivion. At that point it just kept going as it cut into my leg, I let it roll over me hopped up and tried trow it in park yet no cable attached it wouldn't stop and just kept going till it hit a small ditch at end my drive and half way in the road.My leg was cut and I was scratched up in many spots yet dog was ok. The trans quitting lead to the unhooking of the cable then the e/p brake not holding due to worn brake shins in the rear which have calipers so if the calpier would've held with the brake it'd been fine but under everything is a set small and thin pads that hold the truck when brake applied. There was a recall (#05042). Yet my vin was not included, chevy was called yet denied any responsibility of either matter or action to cure it. These defects could've killed me, decapitated, or killed my service dog!

Someone ran a red light and creamed into us at about 50-55 mph. The impact area was the passenger wheel well area and the impact was so violent that it smashed everything over and including the starter... Our air bags did not deploy and i always wondered if it was because the crash smashed the starter and had something to do with the gm recalls now. Both my son and i have never been the same after that crash and neither of us can even sleep in a bed from neck and back pain... We both had brain injuries and mine was rather severe where i lost my superior intelligence and photographic memory...and had severe language and speech problems... It was almost like i was dyslexic and i have never been the same. Both our health deteriorated since... I was told 'our air bags would have deployed' if it would have been a hard impact (which it was), since the man's car was totaled for how he hit us without ever braking or slowing down... Since the impact was the passenger wheel well area and corner bumper clear over to the driver side and even broke the starter, i wonder if the ignition did something to make the air bags not deploy. I always felt there was more to this accident, but no one would do anything for us. Now with all these gm recalls, i wonder if there was an issue with this accident. Can someone please let me know if our airbags should have deployed with such a violent crash and if when the crash broke the starter if it could have prevented the air bags from deploying? Thank you so very much. *tr

I was south bound on one way street 30 mph into green light intersection. A west bound car failed to stop and struck rear panel behind drivers rear wheel. This started a spin and threw me against drivers window. I blacked out for a second and the tried to regain control. I hit brakes hard, but wheel continued to spin at 30 mph which caused me to spin in donut fashion. This threw me against a curb and broke off the left front wheel as the trucked skipped onto the sidewalk, spun across and sheared off a small 3" diameter tree. The truck continued to spin in donut fashion towards a boy scout building, i was finally able to take my hands off of the wheel long enough to throw into neutral and stop. The engine idles down to normal after shifting into neutral. All of the accident was in a direction to the southeast of the original impact, not to the southwest as would be expected. I had the power steering pump repaired in february 2010 at dealership where we had purchased our truck for this same problem. They found the pump to be defective and effected a replacement of this part. *tr

2007 Silverado

I bought my 2007 silverado on july 27,2006 i began having electrical problems no more than two weeks later it went in the shop august 08,2006 for windshield wipers malfunctioning the dealer replaced the wiper module a couple months later october 10,2006 wipers were doing the same they again replaced the module and motors ok that's fixed, then my brakes were locking up and would drag when i would stop even at speeds of 5-10 mph and also stay locked after taking off from a stop and also was pulling left then right when brakes were applied they had to change the brake pads and resurface the rotors. March 26, 2007( i had my radio burn up a cd and lights in radio burn out they had to replace the stereo and the back lights on my stereo control buttons and other buttons on steering wheel burnt out they changed those. Then my accessory outlet keeps burning out any time i plug anything in it blows a fuse, my speedometer cluster lights burnt out they had to replace that) june 28, 2007 back in the shop for a knocking noise in steering shaft they had to replace the steering shaft. May 05, 2008 steering wheel lights burnt out again they replaced the buttons again. Then august 31,2008 my family and i were leaving town due to a mandatory evacuation and i was pulling my trailer when i took the ramp to get off the interstate i had no trouble stopping at the stop sign but when i went to cross into the median at no more than 5-10 mph i had no brakes and was pushed into oncoming traffic which resulted in a crash i bought new tires in july 2008 and you can tell that they are being torn up by the brakes i just got my truck back from the shop and noticed the rear brakes are locking up again and dragging through turns even with no brakes applied at 5-10 mph does this seem like an electrical problem. *tr

2007 chevorlet silverado 1500 2wd v8 4.8l, engine fire. Fire department & insurance company both do not believe there was fraud or arson. Total loss. The vehicle was parked outside of my residence on the residential driveway at about 3:50a.m. We heard a blow which was the tire in the front driver's side. We called police plus fire department. The engine front part of truck plus the 2 tire's in front and engine caught on fire. The hood still on, and the windows did not break. The inside of the vehicle good just wet after the fact. Fire report says area of fire origin was the engine area, running gear, wheel area. Item first ignited was the pipe, duct, conduit & hose covering. It was about 2:30a.m. Same day we got home. It had not been 2 hours that we drove the vehicle. It was parked and the ignition off when this fire started. My driver and passenger door must have unlocked and the back driver and passenger doors stayed locked because when the fire department put out fire the doors were that way. I have a 6 year old daughter that rides in the back seat. The fire department said the fire started drivers side/engine. This is a very terrifying time. I'm scared to even purchase a truck anymore. We could have been in the vehicle, my husband and i plus our daughter. I used to drive my truck with the thought that i was safe in it for the size of it and that it was a chevy, but now i can't even have that thought cross my mind. Your not safe anywhere, not even in your vehicle because not only if there is a car wreck, a drunl driver hits you, someone failed to stop at a stop sign and hit you, now if your ignition is in the off position your truck can catch on fire, at your residence, parked in a garage, parked beside other vehicles, and who knows the fire could have started as i and my family were in it too. Your not safe. Insurance co pays the value and book closed. I have no vehicle to show for those 3 years. No fraud no arson and no vehicle. And nothing done. It's not right. *tr

My 16 yr old son and 12 yr old son were coming home from school on 11/10/2006, my 16 yr old was driving, he took drivers ed and passed the class with an a+. And when he took his driving part of the test he past with a perfect score the first time. He also raced gokarts, so he knew how to control vehicles and prevent wrecks. When the wreck happened, the truck just went up an embankment, and went throw the air and hit a tree and pealed the roof back like it was a tin can. There was no skid marks, the tire tracks went straight up the bank, like the steering wheel was locked. And not one air bag opened. They were less than a 1/4 of a mile from home. I was at the bus stop waiting on my daughter, i heard the wreck and the alarm from the truck was going off. I went to the site and the alarm was still going off, and the steering wheel was locked. My 12yr old died on site, my 16 yr old died 4 days later. I have known something caused the wreck, but not sure what until now. *tr

2008 chevy silverado 1500 fire on 11/20/20 i was driving 3 miles to my friends house and as soon as i pulled up, i smelt fire. Can a Chevrolet Silverado tow? Towing & payload

As a pickup, the Chevrolet Silverado is built to tow and haul. The exact maximum towing capacity and payload depend on the engine, drivetrain and whether it has the factory tow package.

What sets your Silverado's tow & payload rating:

  • Engine — a larger or turbocharged engine tows more than the base unit.
  • Drivetrain & axle — 4WD/AWD and the axle ratio shift the rating.
  • Tow package — the factory towing package (hitch, wiring, transmission cooler) raises the max.
  • Payload & GVWR — GVWR caps the combined load; more passengers and cargo lower how much you can tow.

Exact towing capacity, payload and GVWR are added per engine, drivetrain and trim — decode your VIN above, or check the driver's door-jamb and hitch labels. Curb weight from vehicle specifications.
