WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, IT SUDDENLY SOUNDED LIKE THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN ROAD NOISE, THEN SUDDENLY THERE WAS A PUFF OF SMOKE FROM THE BACK AND THE NOISE DISAPPEARED. STOPPING TO CHECK, MY MASTER CYLINDER WAS HALF-EMPTY. PER CHRYSLER DEALER WHO REPAIRED IT, ""RIGHT REAR BRAKE CAME APART (CYLINDER BLOWN AND SPRINGS BROKEN)." WHEN IT FAILED, IT ALSO DAMAGED RIGHT REAR TONE WHEEL AND SENSOR, MAKING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES INOPERATIVE. THERE WAS NO WARNING BEFORE THIS CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 CHRYSLER CIRRUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE THEN SHIFTED OUT OF NEUTRAL, BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OUT OF FIRST GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

TRANSMISSION WITHOUT WARNING EITHER SHIFTS DOWN INTO SECOND GEAR AND WILL NOT SHIFT UP OR WORSE THE TRANSMISSION GOES LIMP WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED IN OTHER WORDS YOU END UP COASTING AND COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED TO ME I WAS GOING 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE ROAD SO I COULD COAST OFF AND COME TO A STOP. IF I HAD BEEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IN EITHER THE CENTER OR LEFT HAND LANE THERE WOULD BE NO WAY FOR ME TO AVOID OTHER CARS AND THIS WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A FAULTY SOLENOID PACK AND THEY REPLACED IT FOR $900+ DOLLARS. THE CAR RAN FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND THE SHIFTING DOWN AND LIMP EPISODES BEGAN AGAIN. I NOW HAVE A CAR WITH 45000 MILES PARKED IN MY GARAGE AND AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. THERE ARE DOZENS OF BLOGS ON THE INTERNET DESCRIBING THE SAME PROBLEM AND I DO NOT SEE ANY RECALLS BUT THIS IS CERTAINLY A LIFE THREATENING HAZARD. THE FIRST FAILURE WAS ON DEC 19 2005, I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROX. 65 MPH AND THE ENGINE QUIT RUNNING RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES ALSO THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO A LOWER GEAR IT JUST FREE WHEELED. DT: THE VEHICLE IS A 1995 CHRYSLER CIRRUS, WHEN THE CONSUMER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IT DID NOT HAVE A THERMOSTAT. THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE RAN HOT SHE TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO TOLD HER THERE WAS NO THERMOSTAT. EVERY TIME SHE MOVED THE VEHICLE SHE WOULD HAVE TO ADD WATER AND ANTIFREEZE. BECAUSE THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE HOSE. ON 7-16-05, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO OVER 50 MPH THEN THE SPEED STARTED DROPPING. CONSUMER PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD .SHE PUT IT IN PARK AND SHUT THE IGNITION OFF. SHE TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN THEN IT MADE A WINDING NOISE, THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON, BUT IT WOULD NOT START. AFTERWARDS THERE WAS STEAM COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. SHE CONTACTED THE TOW SERVICE, WHICH TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REFUSED TO FIX VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PARKED AT CONSUMER'S HOME BECAUSE SHE COULD NOT GET ANY OF THE MECHANICS TO REPAIR IT. *AK

1995 CHRYSLER CIRRUS, 2.5L 6CYLN ENGINE, BOUGHT FOR OUR TWIN DAUGHTERS 16TH BIRTHDAY AND WITHIN 2 DAYS OF GETTING THE CAR, THEY WERE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND THE ENGINE STALLED RESULTING IN THEM LOSING PS/PB CONTROL., THE CAR HAS REPEATEDLY STALLED WHILE THEY HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND THEY CAME VERY CLOSE TO HITTING A MAN AS HE WAS WALKING ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THIS ENGINE FAILURE AND LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. THIS CAR ALSO HAS A PROBLEM STARTING, MY HUSBAND IS A SENIOR AUTOMOTIVE TECHINICIAN AND HE FOUND THAT WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR THERE IS NO SPARK, HAVE WE SOLVED THE PROBLEM AS TO WHAT TO REPLACE? NO, IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF POSSIBILITIES FROM THE COIL TO THE COMPUTER CHIP. OUR DAUGHTERS DROVE THE CAR FOR 9 DAYS AND NOW IT SITS WAITING TO GET FIXED, DO WE WANT TO GO THROUGH THE EXPENSE OF GUESSING WHAT PART IT NEEDS TO RUN AGAIN? NO!! WHEN REVIEWING THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CAR IN GENERAL, I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM, IT IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN, MAYBE YOUR WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED BEFORE YOU WILL TAKE ANY ACTION ON THIS, I THINK IT IS VERY BAD BUSINESS TO NOT EVEN KNOW WHY THIS PROBLEM IS HAPPENING. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 97V201000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT) FOR THE SAME FAILURE HIS VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE RECALL DID APPLY TO HIS VEHICLE; THE MANUFACTURER WAS TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,200. I PURCHASED MY CAR AT CHRYSLER CHASE IN STOCKTON CA. THE FIRST DAY I NOTICED A NOISE COMMING FRON THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN I BRAKED SO I ASKED THE DEALER TO HEAR THE NOISE. THE SALES PERSON DIRECTED ME TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE THEY HEARD THE NOISE AND ASSURED ME THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR THAT CAR. I KEPT HEARING THE NOISE BUT I BELIEVED IT WAS NORMAL. THE NOISE PRESISTED SO I CONTACTED THE DEALER I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN I WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING COLUM NEEDED REPLACING BECAUSE THEY HAD A RECALL WELL THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS I HAVE BEEN TAKING IT BACK FOR THE SAME PROBLEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD THAT THE NOISE WAS NORMAL. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR FOR MAJOR REPAIRS ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THEY REPAIR IT BUT WHEN I TAKE IT BACK FOR THE SAME THING IT IS ONLY CONVENIENT FOR THEM TO SAY THAT THEY CAN'T HEAR THE NOISE, AND WHEN THEY HAVE HEARD THE NOISE IT IS NORMAL TO THEM YET I STILL HAVE THE SAME BREAKING AND STEERING PROBLEMS. THE DEALER LET MY WARRANTY RUN OUT BY TELLING ME THAT THE NOISE WAS NORMAL, AND WHEN MY WARRANTY WAS OVER THEY JUST SAID WELL WE DON'T KNOW IF IS THE SAME THING EVEN THOUGH THEY END UP REPLACING THE SAME THINGS. THE LAST TIME I HAD THE PARTS REPLACED WAS AT ABOUT 89,000 MILES I AGAIN TOLD THE DEALER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE BUT THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL. I HAD MY BRAKES WORKED ON ON FEB, 2001 AT THE DEALER BUT THE BRAKES WERE MAKING ALOT OF NOISE SQUEELING AND A GRINDING NOISE MY WIFE TOOK THE CAR BACK AND THE TOLD HER THAT THE HAD PUT LOCK FAST AND THAT WAS THE REASON THE METAL WAS GRINDING THEY WORKED ON MY BRAKES AGAIN FOR THIS REASON, BUT THE NOISE WAS EVEN LOUDER AND THE GRINDING NOISE GOT WORSE. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO TRY TO GET THEM TO CHECK IT BUT CHAD THE PERSON WHO I SPOKE TO TOLD ME THAT HE ALREADY HAD TOLD MY WIFE THAT THE NOISE WAS NORMAL BECAUSE THEY WERE USING NEW MATERIALS THAT WERE ALWAYS GOING TO MAKE NOISE, AND THAT THE GRINDING NOISE WAS JUST THE PARTS SETTLING IN.*AK

I HAVE A 1995 CHRYSLER CIRRUS, V-6 ENGINE WITH 82,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR SINCE AUGUST 2003 AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RESOLVE IT. ANYTIME I DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR PERIODS LONGER THAN 20 MINUTES IT WILL JUST STALL FOR NO REASON. WHEN THE PROBLEM HAPPENS IT IS AS IF SOMEONE HAS TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. THE CAR WILL RESTART AFTER SEVERAL HOURS BUT NOT BEFORE AND WHEN IT DOES RESTART IT IS AS IF NOTHING WAS EVER WRONG. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED AND IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN IT HAPPENS ON THE INTERSTATE. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER AND THE RESPONSE WAS " OUR EDUCATED GUESS IS THAT IT IS THE DISTRIBUTOR AND FOR $1,000 WE WILL REPLACE THE DISTRIBUTOR, WE ARE NOT SURE THIS IS THE PROBLEM BUT OUR BEST GUESS IS IT IS". ANYTIME I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED INTO THE DEALER OR ANY OTHER REPAIR CENTER BY TIME THE CAR GETS THERE AND IS EVALUATED THE PROBLEM HAS WENT AWAY JUST TO ARISE A DAY LATER, A WEEK LATER, OR SOME PERIOD OF TIME LATER. NO OTHER REPAIR CENTER WILL AGREE WITH THE DEALER THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE DISTRIBUTOR, AND THEY ADMIT THEY JUST DO NOT KNOW SINCE THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE REPLICATED WHILE THE REPAIR SHOP HAS THE VEHICLE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE AND ENGINE FROM CHRYSLER AND ITS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED FROM A VEHICLE STALLING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IN THE MIDDLE LANE ON THE INTERSTATE. *JB

I HAVE A 1995 CHRYSLER CIRRUS THAT KEEPS STALLING, EVEN WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 60 M.P.H. THE CAR JUST STALLS LIKE THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF, BUT IT WILL RESTART RIGHT AWAY. I HAVE HAD IT IN TO THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY KEEP REPLACING PARTS BUT IT DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY SAY THAT THE COMPUTER DOES NOT SHOW AN ERROR CODE FOR THEM TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. IT COUGHS, HESITATES AND VERY SLOWLY ACCELERATES. IN TRAFFIC, THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. IT TAKES ABOUT SEVEN TO TEN SECONDS TO FINALLY REACH TRAFFIC SPEED. FORTUNATELY, WE HAVE ESCAPED ANY COLLISION-- SO FAR, BUT WE HAVE COME VERY CLOSE SEVERAL TIMES. THE CAR WAS GOOD FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS AND SUDDENLY, THIS PAST WEEK IT STARTED HESITAING AGAIN. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 55,000 MILES, BUT, AS I SAID, THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN WITH THE CAR SINCE IT WAS NEW. I KNOW WHAT THE DEALERS WILL SAY-"WE'LL TAKE A LOOK AT IT", WHICH WILL COST A MINIMUM OF $100.00. THEY WILL KEEP THE CAR A FEW DAYS SAYING THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 CHRYSLER CIRRUS. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START HER VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC AND HE STATED THAT THE MODULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE WORK WAS PERFORMED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED A MONTH LATER. THERE IS A ROD ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO HOLD THE WHEEL IN PLACE, BUT IT HAS RUSTED. THE ROD FELL APART AND THE CONTACT HAD IT REPLACED. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, SHE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKELINE WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ONTO THE GROUND. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND HAD IT REPAIRED. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, NUMBER OF CYLINDERS, POWERTRAIN, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,742.

I'VE HAD MY ENGINE CHECKED BACK IN MAY OF 05 BY THE DEALER THEY SAID IT WAS ENGINE MISFIRE,THE DISTRIBUTOR IGNITION WAS BAD. THEY CHARGED ME $321 JUST TO CHECK IT,THEN I PAID $276 TO GET IT FIXED. THE CAR HAS HAD A DRIP EVER SINCE. IN THE PAST 6 TO 8 MONTHS OR LONGER I'VE HAD A DRIP FROM THE ENGINE THAT CAN'T BE FIXED , I RECENTLY HAD MY CAR WORKED ON IT WAS IN THE SHOP FOR A MONTH IT COST ME $2500 TO REPAIR AND IT STILL HAS A LEAK. IT'S BACK THERE AGAIN BECAUSE IT NEEDS THAT EXPANSION PLUG AND RETAINING BRACKET THAT ONLY THE DEALER CAN PROVIDE ACCORDING TO EVERY SITE BUT THE PLACE THE CAR COMES FROM. I BOUGHT THIS CAR 08/12/03. I PAID 8800.00 FOR THE CAR. I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN FOR 1 YEAR. DUE TO ALL THE PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING I RAN A CARFAX REPORT AND FOUND OUT THIS WAS A RENTAL VEHICLE WHEN PRO CAR BOUGHT IT AT THE AUCTION. THE MANAGER DENIED KNOWING THIS. I TOOK THE CAR IN ON 8/15/03 BECAUSE THE STEERING WAS TIGHTENING UP AND POWER STEERING WAS NONEXISTENT WHEN GOING UNDER 10MPH. SERVICE MAN TOLD ME STEERING RACK BUT THEN THEY TOOK THAT BACK. CAR WAS OVERHEATING, AND SOMETHING WRONG WITH IDLE. THE DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND SAID THAT OVERHEATING WAS NORMAL UNLESS IT WAS GOING IN THE RED. TOOK IN 08/21..SAME PROBLEMS AS BEFORE BUT NOW TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. CAR WOULD NOT DOWN SHIFT AND WOULD POP OUT OF GEAR TRAVELING DOWN THE HWY DOING 65MPH..CAR WOULD INSTANTLY SLOW DOWN AND HAD TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER ALMOST GETTING IN AN ACCIDENT TWICE. PICKED UP ON THE 19TH ON THE WAY HOME CAR SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AGAIN. CALLED THEM AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD SEND TO TRANSMISSION SHOP. 10/14/03 TOOK TO RICKS TRANSMISSION SHOP. REPAIRS DONE ON TRANSMISSION. PICKED UP CAR ON 10/15. 10/17/03 CAR BROKE DOWN IN PARKING LOT. TURNED KEY NOTHING HAPPENED AT ALL. PASSERBY SAID DUE TO WORK ON TRANSMISSION THIS WAS MOST LIKELY A NEUTRAL SWITCH THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE REPLACED. 10/20 TOOK CAR INTO PRO CAR AGAIN. WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT DESIGNED WHERE CONSUMER COULD REACH TO LUBRICATE. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS NEW VEHICLE. THE MOST SERIOUS OF WHICH HAPPENED THIS WEEK. I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BALL JOINTS. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS, I FINALLY GOT THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE RIGHT ONE. THEY SAID THE LEFT ONE WAS FIND, ALTHOUGH THAT WAS WHERE THE NOISE WAS FROM. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY POWER STEERING RACK. FIVE DAYS AFTER THE RIGHT BALL JOINT WAS REPLACED, THE LEFT BALL JOINT BROKE AS MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THE TIRE FELL OFF.
