I PICKED UP ON A MATTER OF SAFETY WITH MY 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SE, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON, AND RUNNING THE VEHICLE CAN BE SHIFTED FROM PARK TO OTHER GEARS WITHOUT THE BREAK PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THIS ISSUES CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER ABOUT THE ISSUE, AND WAS TOLD THAT IN THE 2000 MODEL IT WASN'T REQUIRED TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE. I AS THE CONSUMER DO NOT THINK THIS THE CASE. I CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN TIME AFTER TIME, AND CAN SHOW YOU IT HAPPENING. COULD RESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, AND OR CRASH. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE CHECKING THE TRANSMISSION UNDER THE HOOD WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE CONTACT'S GRANDDAUGHTER WAS ABLE TO SHIFT FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE. THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE VEHICLE MOVED FORWARD, KNOCKING THE CONTACT UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED, SHE MANAGED TO GET UP FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT WAS THE ONLY ONE INJURED. THE PARAMEDICS HAD BEEN CALLED AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FILED A REPORT. SHE WAS THEN TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. CHRYSLER STATED THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE GEAR TO BE MOVED OUT OF POSITION WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE AND THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE MAY RECUR. LUCKILY WE WERE SLOWING TO A STOP AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT. THE CENTER PIN THAT HOLDS THE GEARS IN THE DIFFERENTIAL CAME LOOSE AND LOCKED THE FRONT WHEELS UP SO VIOLENTLY THAT IT KILLED THE ENGINE. IF THIS HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. THERE WAS NO WARNING NO NOISE AT ALL. WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT BUSTED THREE HOLES IN THE DIFFERENTIAL CASE OF THE TRANSMISSION AND ONE HOLE IN THE FLYWHEEL HOUSING. I BELIEVE THERE ARE SOM SERIOUS ENGINEERING ISSUES THAT CHRYSLER NEEDS TO ADDRESS BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. LUCKILY ALL I AM OUT IS THE MONY TOBUY ANOTHER TRANSMISSION AND PAY THE CORE CHARGE SINCE MY CASE IS NOT REBUILDABLE.

WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN LOCKED UP WITH ONLY 87403 MILES REGISTERED. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO A REPUTABLE TRANSMISSION COMPANY I FOUND THAT THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. WHILE REPAIRS WERE BEING MADE I INVESTIGATED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND FOUND THAT MANY INDIVIDUALS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE BUT THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS TO THIS DATE. ALL PARTS INCLUDING GEARS WERE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE OF $2221.58. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS IN THIS VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE PROBLEMS AND ESPECIALLY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED UNTIL AT LEAST OVER 100,000 MILES. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50MPH, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO ITS DESTINATION AND WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN, IT WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE DIFFERENTIAL CROSS PIN CAME LOOSE, LOGGED INTO THE SIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION CASE AND RESULTED IN A COMPLETE LOSS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WITH A FULL TANK OF FUEL, THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED AS EMPTY. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DEPRESSED THE RESET BUTTON SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD JUST BEEN FUELED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND OPERATED NORMALLY, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY EIGHT OTHER TIMES IN A FOUR MONTH PERIOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE RADIATOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

THE SERPENTINE BELT COMES OFF WHENEVER IT RAINS. I HAVE HAD THE BELT, HARMONIC BALANCER AND THE TENSIONER ARM (2 X'S) REPLACED BUT IT STILL COMES OFF IN THE RAIN. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. THIS IS DANGEROUS. I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR MOMENTARILY EACH TIME AND HAD NEAR ACCIDENTS. WHILE DRIVING ON A SLUSHY CITY STREET THE SERPENTINE BELT CAME OFF AND I WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE CAR. I WAS STRANDED AND BLOCKING TRAFFIC. I HAD IT TOWED AND THEY PUT THE BELT BACK ON. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED WAS DURING A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WHEN I DROVE THROUGH A PUDDLE OF WATER THE SERPENTINE BELT AGAIN CAME OFF. THIS HAPPENED JUST AS I WAS PULLING ON TO THE HIGHWAY AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO PULL CAR OVER ON TO SHOULDER. THANKFULLY, THERE WASN'T A SEMI COMING OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. I WAS JUST INFORMED THERE IS A FIX BY GATES FOR THIS AND WILL BE HAVING IT INSTALLED. *TR *KB

THEY SAID BECAUSE THE VAN HAS A LOT OF MILES. I WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AS ME.I DID HAVE MY MECHANIC CHK IT OUT. HE COULD NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE AFTER 1WK. IT STARTED WITH A DEAD BATTERY,THE GAUGES ON THE DASHBOARD SOMETIMES NOT WORKING,THE AC IS BLOWING HOT AIR OR NOT WORKING AT ALL AND THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW NOT GOING DOWN.NOW NONE OF THE GAUGES WORK INCLUDING MY GAS GAUGES, SPEEDOMETER,AIR,WINDOW,CAR TEMP AND THE LIGHTS STAY ON WHEN I TURN THE CAR ON. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I WOULD HAVE PAID MORE ATTENTION TO THIS ISSUE IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE BULLETIN AT THE TIME IT WAS ISSUED. THE DRIVERS SIDE SHOCK TOWER HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. I HAD A 1996 CARAVAN THAT DID THE SAME THING. THERE ARE MANY REPAIR CAPS THAT WILL HELP STRUCTURAL SUPPORT IF THE RUST HAS NOT SPREAD TOO FAR. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS WILL NOT HELP ME. THE RUST WAS HIDDEN UNDER THE PAINT AND EXTENDS 4-5 INCHES DOWN THE STRUT TOWER. WITH THE VEHICLE UNDER WEIGHT AND FROM DRIVING IT, THERE IS NOW A TEAR IN THE METAL ON THE SIDE IF THE STRUT TOWER FROM FRONT TO BACK AT A DOWNWARD ANGLE. I was driving at 75 MPH on an Interstate Highway. The 3.3 liter V6 engine, with 120,800 miles on it, threw a rod and cracked a 3 to 4" diameter hole in the block. I have cared for this car religiously for 14 years. It had full oil level. It is available for the next couple of weeks for examination if desired. I was able to get off the highway onto the shoulder safely.

THE FIRST TIME IT CAME OFF I WAS GOING 35 MPH IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, A FRIEND HELPED MY DAD PUT THE BELT BACK ON, THEN A FEW DAYS LATER IT CAME OFF AGAIN GOING 55/60 MPH, TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND HAD THE WATER PUMP, SERPENTINE BELT AND TENSIONER PULLEY REPLACED. IT TOTALLY COMPROMISED MY STEERING. I MANAGED TO LIMP IT INTO CIDER MILL RD. WHEN I REMOVED THE TIRE I FOUND A COMPLETE TEAR FROM THE BEAD TO THE TOP OF THE TREAD ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. THE TIRE INFORMATION IS; WINTERFORCE M&S, DOT VN6V, W63, 1403, A03D, 215/65R/16, 358036XBM29362-2, MADE IN CANADA.THEIR WAS NO DEBRIS IN THE ROAD AND IT WAS A CLEAR EVENING. WINDSHIELD WIPERS DO NOT TURN OFF WHEN THE SWITCH IS TURNED OFF. THE WIPERS SWIPE AN ADDITIONAL 2 - 8 TIMES AFTER THEY ARE TURNED OFF, EVEN IF THE ENGINE IS OFF. THE DEALER TELLS ME THEY WILL NEVER FAIL TO COME ON, THEY ONLY FAIL TO GO OFF, AND THAT CHANGING THE SWITCH MAY NOT ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED THAT ONE DAY THE SWITCH WILL NOT RESPOND WHEN THE WIPERS ARE NEEDED AND VISIBILITY WILL BE COMPROMISED. IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE SINCE I HAVE HAD THE VAN.

LUCKILY, THE VEHICLE HAD JUST LEFT A STOPLIGHT AND HAD ONLY ATTAINED ABOUT 20 - 25 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED BEFORE HITTING ANYONE OR ANYTHING IN A VERY CROWDED PEDESTRIAN AREA OF DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO'S HISTORIC GASLAMP QUARTER. MY 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN'S SERPENTINE BELT COMES OFF THE PULLEYS EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN THE RAIN. WE HAVE REPLACED THE TENSIONER, TENSIONER PULLEY AND THE BELT AND STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER DODGE OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE HAS BEEN A AFTER MARKET KIT MADE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE PULLEY, BUT THIS IS AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. I FEEL DODGE NEEDS TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS MALFUNCTION. WE PURCHASED NEW A 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WITHIN 2 YEARS WHILE I WAS DRIVING NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS GOING ON THE STEERING ON THE CAR WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING AND I ALMOST HIT A TREE. I FOUND THAT IT WAS THE SERPENTINE BELT. FROM THAT POINT ON I HAVE ALMOST HAD 2 ADDITIONAL ACCIDENTS BECAUSE THE BELT EITHER WAS CHEWED UP OR CAME OFF. MY HUSBAND FELT THE EXPERIENCE YESTERDAY WHEN THE STEERING WENT OUT. THIS WILL BE THE 6TH BELT PROBLEM THAT WE HAVE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE BUT TO NO AVAIL. WHEN I REMOVED THE COVERS THREE OR FOUR OF THE MOLDED PLASTIC CLIPS BROKE OFF ALL FOUR COVERS. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO CONTACTED CHRYSLER REP GREG JANKOWSKI WHO REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE DUE TO MILEAGE. MY 7 YEAR-OLD SON WAS KILLED ON 12/21/02 BECAUSE MY 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WENT INTO GEAR WITH OUT STEPPING ON THE BREAK. MILEAGE AT TIME OF INCIDENT: 123860 MILES. WHILE DRIVING THIS LOANER VEHICLE OF A FRIEND. I ENCOUNTERED A SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED HYDRAULIC BRAKE FAILURE WHILE STOPPING. LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID. MECHANICAL BRAKING WAS AVAILABLE. ASSESSMENT OF SYSTEM SHOWED NO LEAKS ON OR AROUND BOOSTER, MASTER CYLINDER OR ABS DISTRIBUTION MODULE. APPROXIMATELY 50MM OF SEVERE CORROSION OF THE TWO, RIGID STEEL BRAKE TUBING SECTIONS, ORIGINATING FROM THE SECOND JUNCTIONS OF THE FLEXIBLE HOSES TO THE RESPECTIVE RIGID STEEL BRAKE TUBING, THAT RUN ALONG THE DRIVER SIDE FRAME. WHEN THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS USED TO STOP, THE SUDDEN INCREASE OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAUSED A STRUCTURAL FAILURE OF THE DEGRADED TUBING. THIS FAILURE CAUSED THE CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID AND LOSS OF THE HYDRAULIC BRAKING SYSTEM. THIS FAILURE RESULTED IN A NEAR COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. PHOTOGRAPHS WERE TAKEN OF THE BRAKE LINE TUBING AND JUNCTION AND SHOW THE SEVERITY OF THE CORROSION. The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, there was an abnormal noise and noticed that the vehicle's windshield wiper and blinkers had become inoperable. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had been diagnosed by an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the failure was due to a faulty wiper transmission linkage, a relay, and a switch. The relay and switch were replaced however, the wiper transmission linkage was not repaired due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that parts were not available. The failure mileage was approximately 110.000

I HAVE TAKEN MY 2000 DODGE DURANGO TO FOREST LAKE DODGE DEALER FOR A CLUNKING NOISE IN MY FRONT END OVER YEAR AGO. I HAD A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS. THEY SAID AT THAT TIME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THEY COULDN'T HEAR ANYTHING. AGAIN WITHIN A COUPLE MONTHS I RETURNED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM ALONG WITH MY PASSENGER WINDOW NOT GOING UP OR DOWN CORRECTLY. ONCE AGAIN THEY SAID OH YOU NEED SHOCKS AND YOU NEED YOUR SERVICE OF WARRENTY PROFORMED OR YOUR WARRENTLY WONT BE ANY GOOD, SO I SAID YES DO WHAT IS UNDER WARRENTY NOTHING ELSE UNLESS I SAY IT OK, WILL MORE WORK WAS PROFORMED AND I ENDED UP PAYING HUNDRED PLUS DOLLARS OUT OF POCKET. I HAD SIDE STEPS PUT ON AFTER PURCHASE BY CHRY. I MYSELF INSPECTED THE OPERATION OF THE LEFT REAR DOOR AND FOUND THAT THE ACTUATOR WAS BAD. I CRACKED OPEN ACTUATOR AND FOUND THAT THE GEAR WAS STRIPPED. THIS CAUSING THE WINDING SOUND AND FAILURE TO LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE GEAR IS MADE OF SOME KIND OF SOFT PLASTIC MATERIAL FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. ABOUT THE REAR WINDOW, I CHECKED AND FOUND POWER GOING TO THE MOTORS. BUT WITH ONE OF THE WINDOW MOTORS I TAPPED IT AND GOT IT TO WORK FOR ACOUPLE OF DAYS. WITH MY EXPERINCE AS AN AUTO/TRUCK/BUS TECHNICIAN THE MOTORS ARE DEFECTED ALONG WITH THE DOOR ACTUATORS. I HOPE THESE ISSUES CAN GET RESOLVED, BECAUSE OVERALL MY VEHICLE IS GOOD AT 60,000 MILES.

TENSIONER ASSEMBLY REPLACED 4 TIMES WITHIN 12 MONTH PERIOD. 3 OF WITHIN 60 DAYS. AS A RESULT THE SHAFT AND PULLEY ON THE POWER STEERING WAS BENT REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. DODGE IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND PROVIDED A PART TO HOLD THE BELT ONTO THE TENSIONER. IT DID NOT WORK. THE BELT HAS BEEN REPLACED 6 TIMES UNDER 70K MILES. MOPAR PART WARRANTIES HAVE BEEN USED, HOWEVER, $100 DEDUCTIBLES FOR AN EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS BEEN COLLECTED 3 SEPARATE TIMES. FORTUNEATLY, TO DATE, NO INJURIES HAVE OCCURRED.

I HAD THE BRAKES ON MY VEHICLE REPAIRED TWICE. THE FIRST TIME MY CAR HAD APPROX 40,000 MILES AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO THE WAY I DRIVE THE CAR. NOT MORE THAN 6 MONTHS LATER THE BRAKES STARTING VIBRATING AGAIN AND I TOOK IT BACK TO BURLINGTON DODGE - WERE THEY TOLD ME, ONCE AGAIN, IT WAS DUE TO THE WAY I DROVE THE CAR AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD EXCEPT REPLACE THEM AGAIN. MY BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WHEN THEY WANT TO AND STAY ON, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT YOU WILL GET UP AND FIND THE BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE COME ON FOR NO REASON. WAS ADVISED CORE LEAK, NOT A COPPER TO ALUM JOINT, BUT THROUGH ALUMINUM PART OF CORE. APPEARED TO BE DETERIORATED BY ACID. OTHER INVOLVES THREE FAILURES ON BATTERY ON THIS VEHICLE. THE ORIGINAL, A REPLACEMENT INSTALLED IN OCT 2001 AND THAT FAILED THIS JULY 2003.

THIS IS A FAMILY VEHICLE THAT I DON'T ALWAYS FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN. WE ONLY HAVE 17,800 MILES ON THE VAN, I WONDER IF WE DROVE IT MORE OFTEN IF WE WOULD BE IN THE SHOP EVEN MORE FREQUENTLY.THREE TIMES I HAVE GONE TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND HAVE ALMOST ENDED UP IN THE NEIGHBOR ACROSS THE STREETS YARD. THE MOST RESENT PROBLEM IS THE VENTS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE DASH BOARD CANNOT BE SHUT OFF WHILE THE HEATER IS ON, THIS CAUSES MY HEAD TO GET VERY WARM WHILE MY FEET ARE COLD. THE WIPER SWITCH, BODY COMPUTER AND MOTOR HAVE BEEN CHANGED AT 4 SEPERATE TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND THIS HAS NOT REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. ALL OF THESE COMPLAINTS HAVE CAUSED THE VAN TO BE OUT OF SERVICE FOR 14 DAYS AT THE DEALER, NONE OF THE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN RESOLVED.
