TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 1999 DODGE INTREPID. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE ENGINE REVVED EXCESSIVELY HIGH, FOLLOWED BY THE "OIL" WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATION ON THE INSTRUMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. AFTER THE ENGINE COOLED, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENT AND PROGRESSED. 1999 DODGE INTREPID 2.7 LITER 4 DOOR 200,000 MILES CLEAN CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO IT'S PARKING GEAR AFTER A SHORT TRIP. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK. THE NEXT MORNING THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. I TRIED WITH CONSIDERABLE FORCE AND THE SHIFT CABLE BROKE..I REMOVED THE CENTER CONSOLE AND REPAIRED THE SHIFT CABLE ARM WHICH HAD BENT AND TWISTED IN A FORWARD DIRECTION ALLOWING THE CABLE TO FALL OFF. I WAS ABLE TO RESHAPE THE DAMAGED ARM AND RE ATTACH THE CABLE..THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT SHIFT. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING SO I KNOW IT IS NOT A SHIFT CABLE INTER-LOCK PROBLEM...I HAVE KNOW IDEA AS TO WHAT CREATED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND INSPECTION MADE TO THE TRANSMISSION, THERE WAS NOT ANY SLIPPAGE..THE PARKING PAW WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND THEN NOT RELEASE...I ALLOWED THE CAR TO WARN TO A NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE..I THEN TRIED TO SHIFT THE CAR FROM PARK AND IT DID WITHOUT ANY RESISTANCE. FIRST THE CAR WOULD DIE OUT AT ANY GIVEN TIME. WOULD BE DRIVING AROUND WITH CHILDREN AND WIFE ON FREEWAY OR BUSY STREET AND ALL POWER WOULD JUST GO OUT. WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD TURN OFF THE ODOMETER WOULD SAY NO BUS AND CHECKED ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. TOOK DODGE DURAGO TO LOCAL DEALER SHIP TO GET CHECKED OUT AND THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM WOULDN'T SHOW UP ON THERE COMPUTERS. ITS CONSEQUENCES COULD BE THAT A LADY OR ELDER PERSON COULD BE DRIVING A DODGE DURANGO AND THIS HAPPENS TO THEM WELL YOU LOSE ALL POWER OF THE VEHICLE AND POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. WHAT IF THEY CANT CONTROL THIS THEY COULD GET INTO A WRECK AND DIE OR HURT OTHER PEOPLE.WHEN THIS HAPPEND TO MY WIFE SHE WAS ON THE FREEWAY WITH MY 2 CHILDREN IN THE CAR.I HAVE READ MULTIPLE FORUMS WITH THIS SAME COMPLAINT WITH THE 99 DODGE DURANGO AND DODGE ACTS LIKE NOTHING IS WRONG I GUESS ITS GOING TO TAKE A MAJOR LAWSUIT FOR THEM TO OPEN THERE EYES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHRYSLER INTREPID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TWO BOLTS THAT HOLD THE RACK AND PINION STEERING HAVE FAILED. SHE STATED THAT THE BOLTS DISPLAYED SIGNS OF CORROSION. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED, IT KNOCKED DOWN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIE RODS AND CAUSED HER TO LOSE COMPLETE POWER AND CONTROL OF THE STEERING. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT IT COULD BE DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE AND/OR PART IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY CANNOT BE OF ASSISTANCE. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 79,902.

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH FELT LOOSE PLAY IN STEERING AND BEGAN MOVING OVER TO THE SLOW LANE AND AS I DID THE STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED. AFTER I STOPPED AND IN THE PRESENCE OF A HIGHWAY PATROL I TURNED THE WHEEL AND YOU COULD SEE THAT THE WHEELS DID NOT TURN AT ALL. COMPLETE FAILURE. LUCKILY SINCE I WAS MOVING RIGHT PRIOR TO THE FAILURE MY CAR WAS POINTED TOWARD THE SHOULDER AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR SAFELY ON THE SHOULDER. CAR WAS TOWED TO DODGE DEALER WHERE I WAS TOLD THE RACK AND PINION HAD SHEARED OFF. COST OF REPAIR WAS $1600. *AK

WHILE DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, A LARGE AMOUNT OF SMOKE WAS OBSERVED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. AFTER FINDING A SAFE PLACE TO QUICKLY PULL OVER, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE RIGHT REAR STRUT HAD FAILED COMPLETELY AND WAS RESTING ON A BRAND NEW TIRE. THE TIRE WAS SMOKING AND DESTROYED. IT HAD ONLY MILLIMETERS OF TREAD LEFT BEFORE THE STRUT WOULD HAVE PUNCTURED AND EXPLODED THE TIRE. LATER AT A GARAGE, THE STRUT WAS SHOWN TO HAVE BROKEN COMPLETELY. ALTHOUGH I SURVIVED THIS NEAR DISASTROUS INCIDENT, IT COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN MUCH WORSE FOR ME AND OTHER INTERSTATE USERS NEARBY. *TR

TIRE HAS BEEN SQUEAKING LOUDLY FOR QUITE A WHILE...FOUND OUT THE BALL JOINTS WERE BAD. HAD TO HAVE THEM REPLACED.. SAW MULTIPLE THINGS ONLINE SAYING THEY WERE RECALLED FOR OTHER YEARS ,AND CLOSE TO BEING RECALLED FOR THIS MODEL, SO I AM INDICATING THAT THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS...I DRIVE 3 CHILDREN AROUND AND COULD BREAK DOWN WITH THEM. I FAILED THE VIRGINIA STATE INSPECTION ON 23 JANUARY 2005 BECAUSE OF MALFUNCTIONED SUSPENSION. THE FRONT UPPER BALL JOINTS HAVE TO BE REPLACED ON 1999 DODGE DURANGO. THE INSPECTION FACILITY TOLD ME THAT 7 OUT OF 10 OLDER DODGES HAVE THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM, IT IS A RASH OF THEM FAILING AND THAT THEY ARE SHOULD BE ON RECALL. MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE IS OVER 130,000. I CONTACTED TWO DIFFERENT MERCHANTS WHO DO REPAIR WORK, BOTH HAVE INDICATED THEY BELIEVE THESE TO BE ON RECALL BECAUSE OF THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I CONTACTED MY DODGE DEALER WHO SAID THEY ARE NOT ON RECALL. I CONTACTED THE DODGE COMPANY AND THEY SAID THEY ARE NOT ON RECALL, BUT ALL THE MERCHANTS FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND CONSIDERING THE FAILURE RATE THEY SEE. HOW DO WE GO ABOUT GETTING THIS INVESTIGATED AND POSSIBLY HAVING THIS FAILURE ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST? THANK YOU.*AK

I OWN A 1999 DODGE INTREPID ES AND WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR JUST QUITS AND I HAVE TO COAST TO A SAFE AREA OFF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE JUST KILLS. ONCE STOPPED, I TRY STARTING THE ENGINE. IT JUST TURNS OVER AND WON'T START. AFTER WAITING ABOUT 3 TO 5 MINUTE, IT WILL START UP AS IF NO PROBLEM. MECHANIC CAN NOT DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE THROUGH COMPUTER, BECAUSE IT WON'T STORE THE FAULT CODE. IT HAPPENS ON A MONTHLY BASIS, APPROXIMATELY. I HAVE REPLACED CAM SENSOR, CRANK SENSOR, TIMING BELTS, AND NO FIX. IT'S ALMOST AS IF THERE IS A BAD GROUND TO A ELECTRICAL SENSOR OR EXPOSED WIRE. PLUGS AND WIRES WERE REPLACED, BUT NO SOLUTION. I'M JUST LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS EVENTUALLY SOLVED THIS ISSUE. THE CAR ISN'T THAT BAD, REPLACED A LOT OF ELECTRICAL SENSOR COMPONENTS, BUT WOULD JUST LIKE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM PERMANENTLY. ANY ADVICE OR SOLUTIONS ARE MORE THAN WELCOME PLEASE. I OWN A 1999 DODGE INTREPID AND NEED TWO WINDOWS FIXED REGULATORS IN THE DOOR. THE GARAGE I BROUGHT MY CAR TO SAID HE HAS REPLACED A LOT OF THESE REGULATORS IN THE 1999 DODGE INTREPID. I FEEL THAT IF IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED FOR INSPECTION THEN THERE MUST BE SOME SAFETY REASON. EVERY TIME I AM ON THE TURNPIKE I HAVE TO OPEN MY DOOR TO HAND OUT THE MONEY. DT: THE TIMING CHAIN WAS GETTING READY TO SNAP. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS KNOCKING AND MAKING A FUNNY NOISE. I JUST HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON MY CAR FIXED, OIL LEAK AND TRANSMISSION LEAK FIXED, AND THE WINDOWS FIXED BECAUSE THEY WERE OFF TRACK. MY AIR CONDITIONING UNIT IS BROKE AND I HATE THAT BECAUSE I HAVE A NEWBORN BABY AND ITS HOT! I HAD TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION AT 95,000 MILES. I WAS UNHAPPY ABOUT THAT. I HATE MY 1999 DODGE INTREPID.

TOOK TO MECHANIC, WHO DISCOVERED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER WAS RUINED DUE TO RUST, BECAUSE WATER RUNS INTO THE AREA FROM WINDSHIELD DRAINAGE POINTS. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW WHICH ALLOWS LEAKAGE DIRECTLY INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER/MASTER CYLINDER AREA. CAR IS NOW IN SHOP TO HAVE BOTH PARTS REPLACED ( ~$500-600). I OWN A 1999 DODGE INTREPID 2.7 LITER ENGINE. IT HAS ABOUT 95,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS PULLING MY CAR FORWARD WHEN THE ACCELERATOR/THROTTLE STUCK AND PLUNGED MY VEHICLE INTO A JEEP IN MY DRIVEWAY. I ALMOST PUSHED THAT VEHICLE ALMOST INTO THE ROAD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I PUT MY CAR INTO REVERSE TO PREVENT FURTHER INCIDENCE, AND IT CRASHED INTO A TREE (WITH THE THROTTLE STILL STUCK). THE TREE STOPPED MY VEHICLE AND I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT IT INTO PARK. THERE WAS MINIMAL DAMAGE TO THE JEEP BECAUSE IT HAD A SQUARE METAL BUMPER, BUT I WAS NOT SO FORTUNATE. I HAVE FRONTAL DAMAGE AS WELL AS EXTENSIVE REAR DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS GOING AT SUCH A FAST RATE OF SPEED THAT THE DRIVEWAY HAD DEEP MARKS IN IT FROM THE ACCELERATION AND ME TRYING TO BRAKE. HOWEVER, THERE WERE RUST AND WHITE SPOTS IN THE DRIVEWAY UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHERE THE BATTERY IS LOCATED. SHORTLY AFTER CHRISTMAS ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DIMMED AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING 45MPH AT NIGHT, BUT NORMAL OPERATION RESUMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL HOURS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SEEN BY THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE DEALER HAS NEVER BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN IDENTIFYING THE UNDERLYING ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. LASTLY, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT THE LOCAL DEALER. DURING THE OIL CHANGE THE OIL PLUG WAS DAMAGED CAUSING A SLOW LEAK. THE DEALER MADE THREE ATTEMPTS AT REPAIR, BUT OIL CONTINUES TO LEAK FROM BOTH THE TOP OF THE ENGINE AND UNDERNEATH. THE VEHICLE RECEIVED REGULAR SERVICE THROUGH THE LOCAL DEALER EXCLUSIVELY.

ONCE TOWED, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ENGINE HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED A NEW ONE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED ON A REGULAR BASIS. THIS HAPPENED IN FLORIDA, SO THE CAR NEEDED TO BE TOWED BACK TO OUR HOME IN SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE TUNE OF $1000.00. WE THEN HAD THE MECHANIC THAT WORKS ON THE CAR SEARCH FOR A SALVAGED ENGINE. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK, HE WAS ABLE TO LOCATE ONE AND PUT THAT IN THE CAR. THAT COST WAS ALMOST $3000.00. WE THEN STARTED EXPERIENCING ALL TYPES OF PROBLEMS...THE WINDOWS WOULDN'T WORK, THE ALTERNATOR WENT, THE BATTERY CONTINUED TO BE DRAINED. AFTER ALL THIS WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED, WE ARE OUT ALMOST $5500.00. THIS HAS INVOLVED A LOT OF TIME AND INCONVENIENCE TO OUR FAMILY SINCE THIS CAR IS THE PRIMARY TRANSPORTATION FOR OUR SON AT COLLEGE. HE HAS HAD TO TAKE ONE OF OUR CARS TO SCHOOL WHILE WE HAVE SPENT 3 MONTHS TRYING TO CORRECT ALL OF THESE ITEMS DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE. IN TALKING WITH THE CHRYSLER HEADQUARTERS, THEY HAVE HEARD ABOUT THE ENGINE FAILURE SITUATION AND APPARENT "SLUG" IN THE LINES, HOWEVER, THEY HAVE NOT HEARD IT ENOUGH TO WARRANT A RECALL OR RE-IMBURSE THOSE OF US THAT HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS TO CORRECT THEIR PROBLEM. JANUARY 24, 2003 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, I OWN A 1999DODGE INTREPID ES WITH 40,244 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I AM AN ''AVERAGE'' CAR USER AND HAVE FOLLOWED THE MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. ON THURSDAY 1/16/03 AS I WAS GETTING OUT OF THE DRIVERS SEAT OF MY VEHICLE I FELT SOMETHING ''SNAP''. I SAT BACK DOWN IN THE SEAT AND THE ELECTRONIC POSITIONING SYSTEM WOULD NO LONGER ADJUST THE SEATBACK AND THE BACK ITSELF SEEMED TO REST AT A BIT OF AN ANGLE FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AS WELL AS LEANING BACK FARTHER THAN IT SHOULD. ON MONDAY 1/20/03 I TOOK MY CAR TO DON MILLER DODGE WEST, A SERVICE GARAGE AND DODGE DEALERSHIP IN MADISON WISCONSIN FOR AN INSPECTION OF THE SEAT. I WAS TOLD THAT ONE OF THE BOLTS ON THE SEAT BASE HAD BROKEN OFF THEREFORE PUTTING ALL OF THE FORCE ON THE REMAINING BOLT ON OTHER SIDE OF THE SEAT BASE. I ASKED IF THIS WAS A SAFETY RISK AND IF IT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE, IF NOT REPAIRED, FOR THE SEAT BACK TO BREAK EVEN FURTHER AND LITERALLY FALL INTO THE BACK SEAT. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A POSSIBILITY. THE REPAIR IS GOING TO COST ME MORE THAN $1000 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. I BELIEVE THAT THE BOLT WAS DEFECTIVE AND I AM WRITING TO YOU BECAUSE I''M CONCERNED THAT THE POSSIBILITY OF OTHER DEFECTIVE BOLTS IN IDENTICAL OR SIMILAR VEHICLES COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE OWNERS. I WAS LUCKY THAT THE BOLT BROKE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND PARKED IN MY GARAGE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHRYSLER INTREPID. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLUNKING SOUND AND ALL POWER STEERING ABILITY WAS LOST. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. SHE THEN HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED BECAUSE THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.

DT: THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 1999 DODGE INTREPID WHEN THE CAR LOCKED, INCLUDING THE STEERING AND THE ENGINE. THE CAR CAME TO A STOP ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT OF THIS KIND WITH THIS CAR. ALSO, THE CONTACT HAS A 2000 DODGE INTREPID AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. HE REPORTED OF HAVING NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR PRIOR TO THIS. IN THE FALL OF 2001, WE BOUGHT A CERTIFIED USED CAR FROM CONTINENTAL AUTO MALL. IT IS A 1999 DODGE INTREPID. A SERVICE AGREEMENT ON THE CAR WAS ALSO PURCHASED. THE FOLLOWING HAS THEREAFTER TAKEN PLACE: THE TIMING CHAIN IDLER BROKE IN MARCH OF 2002. CONTINENTAL FIXED THE CAR UNDER SERVICE AGREEMENT. 67 MILES LATER, THE CAR DIED WITH MY DAUGHTER AND WIFE 7 MILES FROM HOME. IT HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO CONTINENTAL AUTO MALL. WE ASKED WHAT HAPPENED AND WERE TOLD THAT THE OIL PUMP SCREEN WAS PLUGGED UP. WE ASKED FROM WHAT AND THEY SAID FROM THE FIBERS FROM THE TIMING CHAIN IDLER. FROM MY FATHER'S LIMITED EXPERIENCE IN MECHANIC WORK, THE OIL PUMP SCREEN BEING CLOGGED FROM FIBERS FROM THE CHAIN IDLER MEANT THAT THE ENGINE WAS NOT FLUSHED. SO FOR 67 MILES AFTER THE TIMING CHAIN WAS REPAIRED, THESE FIBERS WERE GOING THROUGH THE ENGINE EVENTUALLY CLOGGING THE OIL PUMP SCREEN. THE OIL PRESSURE MUST HAVE BECOME SO LOW THAT A SAFETY SWITCH SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE SAFETY SWITCH SHUT THE ENGINE OFF SO THAT THE LOW PRESSURE WOULDN?T FURTHER DAMAGE THE ENGINE. REPAIRS WERE AGAIN MADE BY CONTINENTALS SHOP. UNTIL THESE TWO INCIDENTS, WE WERE VERY HAPPY WITH THE CAR. AFTER WE GOT THE CAR BACK AFTER THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, THIS IS WHAT WE NOTICED: 1. THE ENGINE DIDN?T SEEM AS QUIET WHEN RUNNING. 2. IT NEEDED A QUART OF OIL THE FIRST WEEK. 3. BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, WE HAD TO ADD OIL 2-3 TIMES. BEFORE IT HAD NEVER USED ANY OIL. OTHER THAN ADDING OIL, WE DIDN?T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL THE POWER STEERING BELT IDLER BROKE THE 2ND WEEK IN AUGUST OF 2003. OUR MECHANIC, JOHN RICKMAN OF JOHN?S AUTO IN GIRARD, SHOWED US THE BRACKET FROM THE IDLER. THE BRACKET IS A FIVE-BOLT BRACKET, WHICH HAD ONLY TWO BOLTS IN IT, AND YOU CAN SEE WHERE THOSE TWO BOLTS HAVE BEEN WORKING. ON AUGUST 20, 2003, I PARKED THE CAR AT A FLOWER SHOP IN GIRARD. I CAME BACK TO THE CAR TO GO HOME AND THE CAR WOULDN?T START.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 DODGE INTREPID. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK HEAD-ON BY AN ONCOMING VEHICLE AND IMMEDIATELY CAUGHT FIRE. ANOTHER DRIVER PULLED OVER AND REMOVED THE PASSENGER FROM THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT IGNITED INTO FLAMES. THE DRIVER WAS FATALLY INJURED. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED CLOSED HEAD TRAUMA, A BROKEN PELVIS AND RIBS, AND THIRD DEGREE BURNS. THE POLICE ARRIVED AND STATED THAT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A POSSIBLE GASOLINE LEAK THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE FLAMES TO SPREAD SO RAPIDLY. THE PASSENGER BELIEVES THAT A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.

WHEN I LEFT THE HOUSE THE CAR WAS OK, I DROVE TO MY FRIEND HOUSE THE CAR STARTED MAKING A REAL LOUD NOISE. I SHUT THE CAR OFF. WE HAD A DIFFICULT TIME FINDING A ENGINE. ONCE WE DID AND HAD IT PUT IN THE CAR, IT DIDN'T WORK. WE BROUGHT THE ENGINE FROM T&M AUTO SALVAGE IN CANTON. THEY PUT ANOTHER ENGINE IN THE CAR. I DROVE THE CAR ABOUT 3 MONTHS WHEN IT STARTING MAKING A STRANGE NOISE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THEREFORE, WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAD THE CAR A MONTH OR TWO. THEY TOLD ME THEY STEAMED CLEAN THE ENGINE BECAUSE IT WAS SLUDGE BUILD UP AND THEY HAD TO TAKE THE ENGINE APART TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN. AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES I NOTICE A TICKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE I TOOK IT IN TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE A LOWER BEARING NOISE THAT WOULD ULTIMATELY RUIN THE ENGINES. AS THE NOISE GOT WORSE I FEARED DRIVING IT ANYMORE . MY MAINTENANCE CONTRACT DID NOT COVER ENGINE COST BUT ONLY AFFECTED BEARINGS AND THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY ANY DEALER OR MANUFACTURE WARRANTY. I SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED THE ENGINE WITH A USED ENGINE WHICH LASTED ONE YEAR AND LEFT ME STRANDED BESIDE THE ROAD REQUIRING A TOW AND MY VEHICLE HAS SAT FOR 2 YEARS WITH THE COST OF ENGINE REPLACEMENT ALMOST DOUBLING. THE TIMING CHAIN GUIDES WERE CHEWED UP INSIDE OF THE ENGINE CAUSING DAMAGE AND COSTING $450.00 THE MECHANIC SAID THAT, BECAUSE OF THE OIL SLUDGE, THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN THE 2.7 ENGINES. THREE MONTHS, THIS JUNE, LATER THE ENGINE BEGINS MAKING MORE NOISE NOW THE ROD BEARINGS ARE SHOT BECAUSE OF THE SLUDGING PROBLEM, THE MECHANIC HAS TO REBUILD THE ENGINE COST AN APPROXIMATELY $1200.00. IN THE SUMMER OF 2003, A/C FAILED TO BLOW COLD AIR. DEALERSHIP TESTED THE SYSTEM AND FOUND NO LEAK, BUT FOR A FEE, WOULD FURTHER TEST THE SYSTEM. NO REPAIRS WERE DONE DUE TO PRICE OF SERVICE. IN THE SUMMER OF 2004, STILL HAD NO A/C, AND DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THE EVAPORATOR COIL HAS FAILED TO OPERATE. THEY WANT APPROXIMATELY $1300 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I WILL NOT GO TO THEIR SERVICE AS I HAVE FOUND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WILL FIX THE PROBLEM FOR APPROXIMATELY $800. I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION RECALL FIXED, THE DRIVER'S SEAT BOLT RECALL FIXED, AND THE RIGHT FRONT WINDOW MOTOR REPLACED. 1999 DODGE INTREPID- ORIGINALLY TAKEN TO THE DEALER WITH A RIGHT-PASSENGER WINDOW DEFECT AS THE WINDOW WOULD NOT GO UP AND DOWN ELECTRONICALLY. NEXT, IT WAS THE AIR-CONDITIONER WHICH WAS REPAIRED BUT DID NOT WORK CORRECTLY. YOU HAD TO TURN THE KNOW TO HEAT AND THEN BACK TO AIR-CONDITIONING. MOST RECENTLY, WHEN YOU TOUCHED THE BRAKE AND THEN TRIED TO ACCERLERATE THE CAR WOULD STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO OUR MECHANIC FOR THIS REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER. IT WAS RUNNING HOT AND THEN WOULD DROP. THEY REPLACED A THERMOSTAT, IDLING MOTOR AND THE COMPUTER. THEY HAD TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FOR TWO WEEKS. WE WERE ALSO APPRISED OF A SLUDGE PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE AIR BAG LIGHT DOES NOT GO OFF AND THE MILEAGE NOT LONGER APPEARS AND ONLY THE TRIPOMETER. THIS VEHICLE IS APPROXIMATELY SIX YEARS OLD AND IT HAS HAD CONSISTANT PROBLEMS. IN REVIEWING THE RECALS ON THIS MODEL, THEY HAVE ONLY BEEN RELATED TO SEATBELTS.

WHEN TAKING IT IN FOR FURTHER INSPECTION ANDSERVICE, THEY HAD TO REPLACE "SLOPPY" UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS AS WELL AS ADJUST THE LOOSE STEERING GEAR. (THE STEERING HAS ALWAYS BEEN LOSE BUT THEY'VE NEVER DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL NOW). THE ITEMIZED WORK SHEET DOES NOT INDICATE UPPER BALL JOINTS WERE REPLACED, YET STATED THEY WERE. AND BAD UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS WAS NOT THE FULL EXTENT OF WHAT WAS WRONG. WE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE TIE RODS AND SWAY BUSHINGS. I PURCHASED A NEW 99 DODGE INTREPID IN JUNE 1999. WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF THE PURCHASE, THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW MOTOR BURNED OUT AND IT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR HOME, I DISCOVERED THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO SAID A ROD WAS NOT REATTACHED TO THE DOOR WHEN THE WINDOW MOTOR WAS REPLACED. THEY FIXED IT AND THE DOOR WORKED FINE. IN APRIL OF 2000, THE LEFT REAR WINDOW MOTOR BURNED OUT AND I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT REPLACED. IN FEBRUARY OF 2001, I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR. I WAS TOLD THE SOLENOID PACK BURNED OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HERB GORDON WAS NOT VERY HELPFUL, SO I CALLED CHRYSLER IN MICHIGAN AND TOLD THEM THE PROBLEM. THE SAID TO PAY FOR THE WORK AND SEND THEM THE ORIGINAL RECEIPT AND THEY WOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR MOST OF THE WORK. I HAD THE WORK DONE AND SENT THE RECEIPT. HERB GORDON SAID THE REAR MOTOR BURNED OUT AND THE DRIVER'S MOTOR WAS GOING TO BURN OUT, SO I CALLED CHRYSLER AGAIN. MY ENGINE'S BLOCK CRACKED PROVIDING EVIDENCE OF THE ENGINE GETTING TOO HOT WITH NO GAUGE WARNING OF OVERHEATING BECAUSE IT IS "OVERHEATING" WITHIN THE SYSTEM BEFORE IT GETS TO THE SENSOR ETC, THEREFORE IT IS NOT A POOR MAINTENANCE ISSUE BUT POOR DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING. WITH A "REBUILT" ENGINE IT SHAKES, HESITATES AND EMITS SMOKE WITH CLEAN OIL AND FILTER AND NO EVIDENCE OF SLUDGE WITHIN!! NOW AT UNDER 96000 ORIGINAL MILES AND 22000 REBUILT ENGINE THE A/C COIL HAS BUSTED UNDER THE HIGH PRESSURE CAUSED BY THE HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURE. THE A/C PRESSURE VARIES WITH ENGINE PRESSURE WHICH VARIES WITH ENGINE HEAT (STILL NO OVERHEATING WARNING ON THE GAUGES). IT IS ONLY ADDRESSED NOW THAT IT IS SUMMER AND TOO HOT TO DRIVE WITHOUT A/C. UNFORTUNATELY BECAUSE OF THE DESIGN IT WILL COST AROUND $850 TO REPLACE A $80-120 PART BECAUSE THE ENTIRE DASH/FIREWALL MUST COME OUT ALONG WITH MANY OTHER COMPONENTS TO GET TO IT (AND THEN THOSE REINSTALLED AFTERWARD). THE BATTERY WAS SUCKED OF POWER AROUND THIS TIME AND THE MOTORS CONTROLLING THE WINDOWS & MIRRORS HAVE BROKEN. THE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM HAS GONE AS WELL. *JB

AFTER HAVING THE CAR BACK FOR A TOTAL OF 8 DAYS, I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND FELT AN SUDDEN SURGE OF POWER, THE RPM READING WAS AT 4,000. I WAS BACKING OUT SLOWLY. I THEN BRAKED AND PUT IT INTO PARK, WATCHED THE RPM GAUGE AND SEEN IT GO OVER 5,000 RPM'S IN PARK AT AN IDLE. MY HUSBAND CONTACTED HIS FRIEND WHO OWNS A REPAIR SHOP AND ACCEPTS THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY WE PURCHASED. B & D AUTO AND TRUCK SERVICE IN MEMPHIS, MI 810-367-8881. THEY CURRENTLY HAVE THE CAR. THE ENGINE IS TOTALED. B AND D CALLED THE CHRYSLER COMPANY, WHO TOLD THEM TO REPLACE THE MOTOR BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGES AND THEY ARE AWARE THAT THE 2.7,V-6 ENGINE IS TROUBLE. B AND D CALLED THE NADN COMPANY AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE ENGINE. I WAS TOLD THAT NADN DOESN?T LIKE TO PAY IT?S CLAIMS. B AND D ALWAYS HAS TO ARBURTRATE OVER THE MONEY FOR THE BILL. B AND D SAID TO REPLACE THIS ENGINE WOULD COST $8,600.00 PLUS TAX. WHEN WE BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, WE PAID FOR IT IN FULL, WE DIDN'T ARGUE ABOUT IT. IT IS STILL COVERED! BEFORE WE BOUGHT THE CAR, LEE'S AUTO DID AN OIL CHANGE ON IT. THERE IS A STICKER IN THE WINDSHIELD THAT STATES TO HAVE IT CHANGED AGAIN AT 3 MONTHS OR 3,000 MILES. 1999 DODGE INTREPID ES: I HAVE PREVIOUSLY MADE COMMENTS IN REGARD TO MY VEHICLE HANDLING AND IT'S FLIMSY, LOOSE FEELING STEERING AND HOW THE FRONT WHEELS FEEL LIKE THEY SLIP SOMETIMES AROUND SLIGHT TURNS. THE FRONT WHEELS ACTUALLY FEEL LIKE THEY ARE SOMETMES FLUTTERING ESPECIALLY OVER BUMPS OR RAILROAD TRACKS USUALLY AT 35+MPH. I HAVE ACTUALLY ALMOST LOST CONTROL WHEN BEING IN FAR LEFT LANE DRIVING AT AROUND 65MPH AROUND BENDS IN HIGHWAY OR FREEWAY ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT ARE BUMPY. I BROUGHT IN TO FIVE STAR DEALER WHERE PURCHASED. I WASEN'T SURE EXACTLY HOW TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM PROPERLY, I DESCRIBED THE BEST I COULD. I COULD DO 65MPH ON A RAINY FREEWAY AND I COULD FEEL VERY COMFORTIBLE WITH THE VEHICLES TRACTION AND STEERING. MY 1999 DODGE INTREPID ES IS NEWER WITH SPORT SUSPENSION AND STEERING, BETTER TIRES AND 16" ALUMINUM WHEELS YET I AM HAVING THESE PROBLEMS NEVER HAVING THEM WITH MY OLD INFERIOR 1995 DODGE INTREPID. SINCE DRIVING IT AWAY FROM THEIR BUSINESS ON 10-16-02 THE BRAKES HAVE CONSTANTLY GRABBED AND THE STEERING WILL CATCH AS YOU APPLY THE BRAKES. MY TRANSMISSION BEGAN MAKING MY CAR DRIVE ERRATIC. AS WITH OTHER OWNERS OF THIS SAME VEHICLE, WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY IT ALL OF A SUDDEN BEGAN JERKING ABRUPTLY AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WOULD NO LONGER GO ABOVE 50MPH AS THE TRANSMISSION COULD NOT SHIFT INTO HIGHER GEARS. IF I WAS ON THE FREEWAY THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. CRUISE CONTROL COMPONENT OVER TOOK THE BRAKE SYSTEM. CAR ACCELERATED FROM 25 MILES A HOUR IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC TO 40 MILES AN HOUR. THIS HAPPENED IN SPITE OF THE BRAKES BEING COMPRESSED. THIS CAUSE ME AND MY FAMILY TO END UP UNDE THE REAR OF TRUCK. THIS ACTION KAD OCCURRED AGAIN TO ME PERSONALLY AND TO TWO OTHER PERSONS. THIS PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AND CLAIMED TO HAVE REPAIRED IT , BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENNED AGAIN ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE SHOP. THE FIRST TIOME IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED, THE O2 SENSOR AND CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WERE REPLACED. THIS ACTION HAS NOT STOPPED THIS VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. AFTER THIS INCIDENT IT ACCELERATED WITH TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE BEHIND THE WHEEL. MY ATTORNEY HAS LOCATED TWO OTHER 99 INTREPIDS THAT HAVE DONE THIS. ONE ACCELERATED IN REVERSE AND THE OTHER IN DRIVE LIKE MINE. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER/DAIMLER CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN BACK BY THE FINANCE COMPANY BECAUSE WE REFUSED TO PAY ON ANYTHING THAT ALMOST KILLED OUR FAMILY. OF COURSE THEY, HOUSEHOLD FINANCE, COULD CARE LESS AND WERE ONLY INTERESTED IN GETTING THEIR MONEY. I INTEND TO PUT THIS INFORMATION EVERY WHERE I CAN TO HOPEFULLY PREVENT ANYONE FROM PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE. OVER USAGE OF OIL. COULD NOT MAKE IT FROM ONE OIL CHANGE TO THE NEXT. TOOK IT IN FAITHFULLY EVERY 3 MONTHS. FANS WENT OUT. FAULTY INTAKE REPLACED. A/C WENT OUT, DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW FALLS OFF TRACK. MOTOR OUT IN DRIVES SIDE BACK WINDOW. PASSENGER SIDE DOOR STICKS AND WONT OPEN. ENGINE BLOWS. ALL MAJOR REPAIRS OCCURRED WITHIN A FOUR MONTH PERIOD, THE MINOR ITEMS HAVE BEEN OCCURRING FOR APPROX. A YEAR. THE CAR HAS LOW MILES. I CAN NO LONGER HAVE REPAIRS MADE TO THIS VEHICLE AND MAKE PAYMENTS AT THE SAME TIME. I WILL RETURN IT TO THE BANK. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT TO 3RD GEAR. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE VEHICLE HAS A TRIPTRONIC SHIFT WHICH ALLOWS THE DRIVER TO DRIVE FULLY AUTOMATIC OR MANUALLY SHIFT WITH JUST A TOUCH. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED BELOW TWENTY DEGREES THE SHIFTER BECAME FROZEN SOLID AND THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK UNTIL THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOVE FREEZING. BECAUSE OF THIS FEATURE THIS MALFUNCTION THE TRIPTRONIC FEATURE IS NO LONGER ACCESSIBLE. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS AIR CONDITIONING PROBLEMS THAT LIMIT IT'S ABILITY TO COOL THE VEHICLE ON DAYS WITH HIGH HUMIDITY. *NM

THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW DIDN'T GO DOWN, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW OPERATES INTERMITTENTLY. WE REPLACED THE #6 INJECTOR AND THE FUEL PUMP. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE CAR STOPPED ALTOGETHER. WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER TO HAVE HIM TELL US THAT IT HAS A BROKEN TIMING CHAIN AND IT WOULD PROBABLY COST US $5700 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. WE HAD IT TOWED HOME.

I BOUGHT A 99 DODGE INTREPID FROM FREEDOM FORD IN CENTRE, ALABAMA FOR A LITTLE OVER $14,000 ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. I WENT BACK LAST SUMMER TO TRADE IN AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT EVEN BLACK BOOKED FOR HALF THAT. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE COOLING SYSTEM (THE ENTIRE SYSTEM), ALL THE FUSES, THE SENSORY MODULE, THE TIE RODS ARE SHOT AND NOW THE MOTOR HAS LOCKED UP. SEVERAL MECHANICS HAVE LOOKED FOR A MOTOR AND FOUND THAT THE MOTOR FOR THIS PARTICULAR YEAR OF INTREPID RUNS $1,500 TO $2000 MORE THAN ALL OTHER MOTORS, EVEN THE 2001 AND NEWER MODELS RUN $1000 TO $1200 AT THE MOST. THEIR REJECTION TO HELP ME IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE 99 MODEL WAS AN EXPERIMENTAL MOTOR AND VERY FEW WERE MADE. I TEACH SCHOOL AND HAVE FOUND A CO-WORKER WHOSE SISTER HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS. HER HUSBAND CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND AFTER ARGUING WITH THEM, THEY PAID FOR HALF OF HIS MOTOR, WHICH KNOCKED HIS TOTAL EXPENSE WITHIN THE NORMALLY MOTOR REPLACEMENT COST. I WAS GIVEN A FLAT NO FROM CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY ONLY HONOR THIS FOR ORIGINAL CAR OWNERS WITH LESS THAN 100,000 MILES AND HAVE AN ACTIVE WARRANTY. WELL MY FRIEND WAS A SECOND CAR OWNER WITH MORE THAN 110,000 MILES, NO WARRANTY, AND IS WILL TO PROVIDE THE INFORMATION NECESSARY TO PROVE THAT HE WAS IN MY SAME SITUATION AND RECEIVED ASSISTANCE IN PAYING FOR HIS MOTOR. I ALSO HAVE MECHANICS WHO WILL PROVIDE STATEMENTS THAT AFTER SEARCHING THE AUCTIONS AND HOTLINES FOR A MOTOR THEY FOUND MORE INTREPIDS ON THE LINE WITH BAD MOTORS THAN ANY OTHER CAR, SOME HAVING AS LITTLE AS 60 AND 65 THOUSAND MILES. I ALSO HAVE AUTO PARTS STORE OWNERS WHO SUGGEST THAT I CALL CHRYSLER TO HAVE THEM HELP WITH THE EXPENSES DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE HELPED OTHERS. I JUST GET THE RUN AROUND FROM CHRYSLER WITH NO CONCERN OF ME HAVING TO MAKE A $386 CAR PAYMENT TO FORD FOR A PIECE OF JUNK SITTING IN MY YARD, AND CONTINUE PAY $107 A MONTH INSURANCE THAT HAS TO CONTINUED DUE TO STATE LAWS.

THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ISSUE WE MENTIONED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN WE HAD THE CAR IN TO REPAIR THE OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR. EVEN THOUGH WE DISCOVERED THERE IS A RECALL ON SEAT BELTS FOR THE VERY PROBLEM WE HAVE HAD WITH THE SEAT BUCKLES COMING LOOSE THAT HOLD OUR CHILD SEATS IN, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR OURS. THE OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR ISSUE ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AS IT INSTANTLY DOWNSHIFTED THE CAR TO 2ND GEAR. I PURCHASED MY 1999 DODGE INTREPID W/28,840 MILES. FROM THERE IT HAD UNREASONABLY BEEN A LEMON AND INTO THE "FIVE STAR" CHRYSLER DEALER AT LEAST 8 TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD PERSISTANT STEERING ISSUES AND ABNORMALITIES, WANDERING, PLAY, ABNORMAL CHANGE IN SENSITIVITY WHILE DRIVING, NOISE, TIRE WEAR. DEALER COULD NEVER "DUPLICATE THE PROBLEMS'. THE ENGINE BLEW UP AT 33,000 MILES, HAD TO HAVE REPLACED. TRANSMISSION FAILED SHORTLY AFTER, HAD TO BE REBUILT. INPUT/OUTPUT SPEED SENSORS FAILED TWICE. ABS ALLOWED BRAKES TO LOCK UP TWICE. TCM AND PCM NEEDED UPDATING DUE TO FLAWED PREVIOUS REVISIONS. POWER WINDOW FAILED, FRONT BUMPER, GRILL PAINT WEARING. OBVIOUSLY THIS VEHICLE WAS A LEMON. THE VEHICLE WAS FINALLY WRECKED AFTER SUDDEN POOR STEERING CONTROL AFTER TRYING TO GET THE DEALER TO DO SOMETHING MANY TIMES. DAIMLERCHRYSLER DENIES ANY MANUFACTURING RESPONSIBILITY. I DROVE MY CAR TO WORK WITHOUT INCIDENT. CAR WAS PARKED AT WORK OVERNIGHT. LEFT WORK THE NEXT MORNING, WHILE ACCELERATING UP TO SPEED I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS JERKING HARD AS IT SHIFTED THROUGH THE GEARS (AUTOMATIC). BEFORE I GOT HOME (3 MILES FROM WORK) THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I ARRIVED AT HOME I CYCLED THE SHIFTER FROM PARK TO DRIVE (WHILE CAR WAS PARKED IN GARAGE). WHILE DOING THIS THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HESITATE AND THEN SHIFT VERY HARD INTO DRIVE WHICH MADE THE CAR LURCH FORWARD (PARK AND FOOT BRAKE WERE APPLIED). I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE INPUT SPEED SENSOR, THIS WAS COVERED UNDER THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY, NO COST TO ME. THE NEXT INCIDENT OCCURRED IN A SIMILAR FASHION, THE CAR WAS PARKED AT WORK. WHEN I LEFT THE NEXT MORNING I NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT WORKING (INDICATED "0" EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS MOVING). THE SHIFT SELECTOR ON THE DASH WAS IN [2] EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE SHIFTER IN THE AUTO-STICK MODE WHICH SHOULD START OUT IN [1]. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHILE PARKED IN THE GARAGE I CYCLED THE SHIFTER FROM PARK TO DRIVE, ONCE AGAIN THE TRANSMISSION HESITATED, THEN SHIFTED VERY HARD INTO DRIVE, CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR. THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURES WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH COVERED THE REPAIR MINUS MY $100.00 DEDUCTIBLE. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS THROUGH YOUR WEBSITE FROM OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, IT DOESN'T TAKE A ROCKET SCIENTIST TO REALIZE THAT THEIR IS A REAL "SAFETY" ISSUE HERE. STEERING: I STARTED TO FEEL A SLIGHT BINDING IN THE STEERING WHEN TRYING TO RETURN WHEEL TO CENTER FROM A TURN. IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE TO THE POINT WHERE I OCCASIONALLY HAD TO "WRESTLE" THE STEERING WHEEL BACK TO CENTER POSITION. IT ALSO FEELS LOOSE, SUSPENSION RATTLES AND I'VE GOT 4 INCHES OF PLAY AT CENTER. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED IT WOULD COST $1200 TO FIX. SERVICE REP TRIED TO EXPLAIN THAT THIS WAS PRETTY COMMON NOWADAYS WITH THE SEALED RACKS AND NOT JUST DODGE. I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS TYPE OF FAILURE IN ALL OF THE YEARS I'VE OWNED CARS AND THINK THIS IS JUST A POOR DESIGN THAT DODGE IS KEEPING MUM ABOUT. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD WITH MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING. I'M PURCHASING A USED RACK FROM A SALVAGE YARD AND HAVING DODGE INSTALL IT FOR $380 AND THEN I'M SELLING IT. I PURCHASED A 1999 DODGE INTREPID IN FEBRUARY OF 1999 (NEW) FROM SANTA ROSA DODGE IN SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA. THIS VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR QUANTUM SERIES TIRES. DURING THE SCHEDULED 6,000-MILE SERVICE AND IN THE PROCESS OF ROTATING ALL FOUR OF MY TIRES, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT ONE OF THE TIRES HAD DEVELOPED A 4" DIAMETER BULB IN IT ON THE INTERIOR. I WAS ADVISED TO TAKE IT INTO A GOODYEAR DEALER AND HAVE IT REPLACED AS IT WAS COVERED UNDER THEIR WARRANTY AND NOT DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S. THIS GOODYEAR DEALER INSTANTLY STATED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY SOME SORT OF ROAD HAZARD AND WAS NOT COVERED BY THEIR WARRANTY. I SUBSEQUENTLY CONTACTED GOODYEAR IN AKRON, OHIO AND THEY SUGGESTED I GET A SECOND OPINION, WHICH I DID. IN ADDITION, AFTER A VERY BRIEF INSPECTION, I WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. APPARENTLY, THERE WAS A TEAR ON THE INTERIOR WALL OF THE TIRE. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT A MILD BUMP WITH A WELL ROUNDED CURB COULD NOT CAUSE A TEAR ON THE OUTER WALL OF THE TIRE LET ALONE CAUSE A TEAR ON THE INTERIOR WALL OF THE TIRE.
