My back up camera went out November 2025 and does not work. Black screen. Lakeland Dodge Dealership refuses to fix for free and vehicle is not under current recall, although is a 2019 Dodge Journey GT. Safety issue and will be reported to National Road Safety Commission

My backup camera is showing a no camera symbol. At first the camera was showing an image upside down. Then the image was blurry and flashing. Now it isn't showing anything. I have looked it up and my year of my vehicle falls within the same issue other were recalled for but my VIN does not show up in the list.

My vehicle, despite never displaying any warning lights or previous issues, unfortunately experienced a sudden failure while I was driving my children home. The car abruptly stopped functioning in the middle of the road, which nearly resulted in a collision with other vehicles, leaving us stranded as other cars passed by. I have since contacted Dodge and discovered online reports of transmission problems with the 2019 model, although, for reasons unknown, my specific model year is not listed. This was very dangerous and I am stuck with the repairs on a car I have not had long.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. It was unknown whether the manufacturer was contacted. The back up camera on my 2019 Dodge Journey is currently displaying either a blue, black or upside down picture. This is the same problem that is described in your recall notice for Dodge Journeys made between May of 2019 and February of 2020. My car was built in March of 2019. Is the NHTSA reviewing production of cars made prior to May of 2019?

Bought this vehicle Aug 2020 and backup camera worked fine. Shortly after purchase the backup camera started flickering and would either be upside down or black. During my April 2021 oil change I had the dealership look into it and they said it would be costly and labor intensive to check the wiring so I didn't have anything done. To this day it is 99% of the time upside down. Every once in awhile it will revert back to normal but that's maybe twice a year.

The liftgate wiring harness is malfunctioning, causing my wiper blade in the rear to be working when it’s not turned off and turns off when you try to work it and my reverse lights are not working. Everything that I have looked up points to the liftgate rear wiring harness has been damaged somehow

Rear camera only turns on 30% of the time. The camera is in the rear view mirror and when it doesn’t work it puts a black screen in the rear view mirror putting many lives in danger.

I will be driving the vehicle and it will go completely dark, no electrical function, shuts right off in the middle of traffic. After a period of time, everything will power back up. This happens randomly and is very dangerous. I took the car to the dealer and initially, they said it was the battery. I replaced the battery and just as I got in the car at the dealer, the car went dark again. This time they were able to see that it is still happening and so far they have not been able to find the cause. I've read online about at least 3 other people having the same issue with no solution found to date. Currently the vehicle is at Courtesy Chrysler in Tampa, FL.

Bought this 2019 dodge journey in Aug 2020. Immediately noticed the headlight condensation. Brought it to the dealership to investigate and they told me it would require a whole new headlight part that would be chargeable and not covered under any warranty.

The contact owns a 2019 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the rear brake lights intermittently illuminated independently. The brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake module, Part number: 68397222AA; needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts being discontinued in October 2024. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 53,047.

Left headlamp seal is bad. Condensation on inside has diminished brightness. The right lamp also leaked but was replaced under warranty. My warranty has expired but, as a safety issue, I believe the faulty lamp should be replaced at no charge. I'd be happy to have the bad headlamp inspected by a dealer or whoever.

Transmission failure at 43,226 miles, costing me $7,471.96. Replacement required. These are known to be a faulty transmission having recalls at this time up through 2016. Mine is not yet included but should be as they are the same unit. A failure like this is uncalled for.

CAR "CLUNKS" WHEN GOING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, SPORADICALLY. ALSO THE TRANSMISSION "SLIPS" OCCASIONALLY. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, CHANGED ALL ENGINE MOUNTS, NOVEMBER 2020. BROUGHT IT BACK A WEEK LATER WHEN I COULD GET AN APPOINTMENT, STILL DOING IT. THEY CLAIM I AM NOT "STOPPING FULLY" BEFORE GOING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, AND SAY THEY HAVE DONE ALL THEY COULD. SPOKE TO FRIEND WHO ALSO OWNS A DODGE JOURNEY. SHE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT IS OBVIOUSLY DAMAGING THE TRANSMISSION EACH TIME THIS HAPPENS, AND THAT IT IS NOT SLIPPING WHEN ACCELERATING AND CHANGING GEARS (AUTO TRANSMISSION).

About 50% of the time the Bluetooth in the car fails to initialize. I have to either turn the car off for about 5 minutes or pull the fuse for the radio in order to get Bluetooth to connect for hands free calling and Bluetooth music. I have the 8.4 inch uconnect radio without nav or the dvd player option.

The rear backup camera will fail often and stay off without any warning I was just pulling into my garage and it stopped halfway. This type of equipment failure seems to be a big issue because if I am around my kids at school or really anywhere where I use my backup camera which that's how I mainly Park then I could hit somebody and I wouldn't know because the camera stops working in the middle of me backing up. The fuse boxes have been checked and there is no issues with them so I'm not sure how to fix the backup camera issue when it will kind of work but then it's like it has a short or something but I feel like it's a bigger public safety issue when I know other people with the same vehicle has this issue too.

As I was driving, I began to park. I put my foot on the brake and proceeded to put car in reverse. The back up camera began to flash. Once it stopped flashing, the image on the screen was upside down. It’s is available for inspection. This is a safety hazard. The purpose of the camera is so that people can see what’s behind them. If the Camry isn’t functioning properly it’s can cause accidents. No warning. The camera just randomly did this. And since then the camera has been upside down. I have never had this issue before. I cut the car off for days at a time and the issue will not go away. I googled the issue and a lot of people with Dodge automobiles have had similar issues.

The contact owned a 2019 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while the vehicle was completely stopped, another vehicle driving at 55 MPH rear-ended his vehicle. There were no air bags deployed upon impact. The contact mentioned that the owner's manual had verbiage that contradicted that air bags do not deploy when involved in rear-end collisions. The contact stated that the trailer hitch absorbed the majority of the impact from the crash. The contact suffered whiplash, but medical attention was not received. The fire department and police arrived on the scene. Police and fire department reports were filed. The vehicle was able to be driven away from the crash site. The contact stated that the following week, while driving, all of the air bags deployed without any impact. The contact suffered a concussion, and his dog, who was sitting in the rear center seat, died as a result of his injuries. The fire department and police arrived on the scene. The Police and fire department filed reports for the second time. Medical attention was not received. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard, where it was deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and their insurance adjuster informed the contact that the air bags performed as designed to not deploy in a rear-end collision. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The VIN was unavailable.

On 7/17/2-23 I was rear ended at 55mph And my Airbags didn't deploy. On 7/18/2023 I reported it to Dodge I was given a case # told someone would call me in 48 hrs and they told me it was fine to drive, no one ever called. 7/24/2023 My 14th Wedding anniversary got ruined because my Airbags deployed while driving. on 7/25/2023 I reported it to Dodge was told someone would call me in 48 hrs no one did and still hasn't. i have call a numerous times each time nothing, not once have they even asked if I was all right in both incidences.

Same issue is occurring in my vehicle as a recall that has occurred with years up to 2016. Upon startup in cold weather the power steering fluid leaks from the vehicle.

Wind (40+ MPH) caught the door while I was opening it. The spring that holds it open and stops it in a certain position broke. The tack welds on the spring snapped and threw the spring into the car. The dealer service department is closed today, and the insurance is going to be contacted on Monday.

Vehicle is shifted into reverse but car will not move. Vehicle is only 4 years old with roughly 73,000 miles on it. After speaking with a mechanic, it has been found that there are issues with the transmission. Transmission will need to be replaced or rebuilt.

I purchased my 2019 dodge journey in 2022 and about two months maybe after purchasing it, my backup camera went out. At first, it came in and out- only working occasionally. But then it completely stopped and hasn’t worked since. There’s a line through the image where the camera use to show up in the mirror. I understand some 2019 dodge journeys has recalls for this, but not my VIN. So I wanted to report that this one also has the same issue.

The cover for the seat belt and airbag on the front passenger seat have become disconnected without any incident causing such. Possibly not allowing the seat belt or airbag to function properly. Also the airbag sensor & seatbelt sensor for this seat stopped working at the same time the cover became un attached to the frame. It makes the seatbelt very hard to use and not sure it would function properly in a wreck not so I think the airbag would be able to deploy properly as the sensor is also not working. I was told this was not covered under my warranty.

Vehicle: 2019 Dodge Journey Issue: Rearview Camera Failure / Malfunction I am reporting an ongoing issue with the factory-installed backup camera in my 2019 Dodge Journey. The camera has been malfunctioning for several years. The camera intermittently displayed a blank screen, glitching image, or the image would appear upside down when shifting into reverse. Over time, the issue worsened, and the camera now fails to display any image at all. This poses a significant safety concern, especially since reverse cameras are a federally required safety feature on vehicles manufactured after 2018. Despite attempted inspections, no clear fix was provided, and I believe this may indicate a manufacturing defect. I am requesting that Chrysler/Stellantis acknowledge this issue and investigate whether other owners have experienced similar problems. A technical service bulletin, warranty extension, or recall may be appropriate, depending on findings. Please advise if any repair support, diagnostic guidance, or goodwill assistance is available to address this safety-critical system failure.

The engine coil packs and spark plus were faulty. After we paid the dealership 700 to fix WHICH WAS NEVER FIXED then we fixed on our own paid a family friend to look at and fixed and then to another dealer to fix NEVER WERE fixed which cause faulty engine and engine collapsed. When told the dealer ship the problem they told us they couldn’t look at it until 2 weeks from that day and then we had to pay for it.

Windshield is coated with a plastic to prevent rock chips. The wipers have grooved the plastic. If the sun is shining and we were to try to clean the windshield it would be very hard to see the road. Seems like a manufacturing defect.

Front cylinder head number two is misfiring. It is a known problem with this engine and older models have an extended warranty. My 2019 is not covered. It’s an expensive repair and seems like a problem.

WHEN I TURNED BACK THERE WERE MANY CARS STOPPED DEAD IN FRONT OF ME. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES BUT DIDN'T EVEN SLOW DOWN. I REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY NOR DID MY SEAT BELT EVEN TIGHTEN. MY ENTIRE BODY ESPECIALLY ON THE RIGHT SIDE SLAMMED THE STEERING WHEEL. MY KNEE SLAMMED THE COLUMN OR SOMETHING UNDERNEATH THE STEERING COLUMN. I HAVE A PERMANENT MARK. I RECENTLY TOOK A TRIP TO PIGEON FORGE TENNESEE FROM CHARL3STON WEST VIRGINIA. THE SPEED MOST OF THE DRIVE WAS 65MPH. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 43,000 MILES ON IT. I BOUGHT IT USED BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT THE BRAKES SHOULD ALREADY BE WEARING DOWN. BRAKING DOWN HILL AT 65MPH THE BRAKES SEEMED TO ALMOST BE PULSATING BUT FELT LIKE THE ROTOR MAY HAVE BEEN WARPED AND THE SOUND WAS HORRIBLE! I FELT THE VIBRATIONS EVERY TIME I WOULD BRAKE. I HAD AN ACCIDENT THIS PASSED JULY 4, 2020 WHERE I HAD NO BRAKES. THAT EXPERIENCE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN (PSTD). I TRAVELED THAT DAY 110 MILE ON THE FREEWAY AND REACHED MY DESTINATION STOPPED TO CHECK ADDRESS, THEN TURNED SLOWLY INTO A DRIVEWAY. MY FRIENDS PULLED THEIR CAR UP SO I CAN PARK BEHIND. I PULLED IN PRESSED ON BRAKES AND REALIZED THERE WERE NO BRAKES WHEN MY FOOT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND CAR STARTED ACCELERATING. MY FRIENDS DRIVE IS ON A DECLINE. VERY HILLING AREA IN HARRISON MI. I STARTING PRAYING ASKING GOD TO NOT HIT THEIR CAR, THEN NOT HIT THEIR HOUSES AND I SAW BUSHES THINKING THEY WOULD STOP ME. SO I TURNED TO MY LEFT AND WENT THRU A WOODED FENCE HIT A STONE STUMP AND WENT SAILING (ACCORDING TO THE NEIGHBOR OF THE HOUSE) FOUR FEET INTO THE AIR AND CAME CRASHING DOWN ON A TREE. IN MY MIND I WAS THINKING THIS TREE WILL STOP MY CAR PRAYING NOT ENDING MY LIFE. THE CAR HIT THE TREE AND LANDED ON THE GROUND PROCEEDING TO THE STREET AGAIN. I AM NOW DRIVING DOWN DODGE HWY WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON THE WRONG SIDE OF HIGHWAY. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK BUT THE CAR STILL DID NOT STOP. A STREET WAS COMING UP ON THE LEFT SIDE AND I TURNED TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC AND THIS STREET WAS GOING UPHILL AND THE CAR STOPPED. THE CAR HAS BEEN WITH DEALERSHIP SINCE JULY 6,2020 AND 5 WEEKS LATER ON AUGUST 17, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FCA STATING "WE ARE NOT LED TO BELIEVE THAT THE INCIDENT WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING RESPONSIBILITY."

THE VEHICLE'S CHECK ENGINE, THE ESC, AND THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING LIGHT, WOULD ALL COME ON AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BOG DOWN AND NOT BE ABLE TO GO ABOVE 40 MPH. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES NOW, IT IS BACK AT DEMPSEY DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 4TH TIME. NO ANSWERS HAVE BEEN FOUND AND CHRYSLER IS NOT REPLACING THE VEHICLE. EVERY TIME IT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP MORE THAN I HAVE DRIVEN IT SINCE PURCHASING IT ON JUNE 29TH.
