TIPM system and/or electrical system failure. Right turn signal intermittently works when it wants to. Door locks from the inside at random or will not lock at all when using the master lock button. Now car will not start or turn over at all. Zero sound comes from he vehicle while turning the key. Commonly known problem with other Dodge Nitros and nothing being done about it. A recall needs to happen or at the very least acknowledgement from Dodge.

I had just entered Gene Snyder Expressway going west when my throttle light started flashing and I lost gas pressure and it started going down fast and then it shut off and right in the middle of rush-hour traffic and it’s 65 mph on the expressway and People as usual go around 80 mph and I just entered and almost got slammed in the rear but luckily I got off the highway in time. I still have not been able to turn my truck over at all. It is in the throttle electrical system, which is currently being checked out as we speak but it’s spit out two codes. One was PO633 and one was P2 112.

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Nitro. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the windows, lights, and radio would independently turn off, or on. The contact stated that occasionally while driving, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact was able to coast off the road safely. The contact stated that she then got out the vehicle to look under the hood to tap the TIPM box, which allowed her to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that she had contacted the dealer to schedule an appointment. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the there was no recall on the VIN for the failure. The failure mileage was 85,648.

The TIPM in these vehicles are faulty and nothing is being done about it by Dodge. There are hundreds of complains across several forums and every time Dodge is contacted about the issue they use the no recall excuse. I have a Nitro myself and it has multiple electrical issues for no reason other than poor manufacturing. The TIPM is the issue and it's not just my Nitro having this problem. My vehicle has accelerated without my assistance, it's had braking issues when there should be no issue. Components that need my action to work have activated on their own, such as... horn, wiper, wiper fluid, accelerator, etc... The wiring in these vehicles are faulty and it needs to be fixed by the manufacturer at their expense. It's time they step up a make it right by the consumer.

THE CONTACT RECENTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CARSON DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (3059 S CARSON ST, CARSON CITY, NV 89701) WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT SHE HAD TO PAY A DIAGNOSTIC FEE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. SHE DECLINED TO PAY THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,000.

THE LAST 2 TIMES I FILLED MY FUEL TANK IN MY 08 DODGE NITRO RT IT SPILLS OUT ALL OVER THE GROUND. THIS OCCURS WHEN THE PUMP STOPS...THEN THE TANK STARTS TO SPILL AT LEAST A HALF GALLON OF GAS GETS ALL OVER MY TRUCK AND THE GROUND!!! THIS CAN BE A SAFETY HAZARD AT THE FUEL STATIONS FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS AROUND. A SIMPLE SPARK DUE TO A FAULTY GROUND IN THE AREA COULD CAUSE THIS TO IGNITE AND BE POTENTIALLY FATAL. I FEEL CHRYSLER SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AND A SAFETY RECALL BE ISSUED. MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS THAT THE POWERS THAT BE ARE NOT ENFORCING CHRYSLER TO MAKE THIS A RECALL ISSUE. WHEN REFUELING, GASOLINE SPLASHES FORCEFULLY OUT OF THE FILLER NECK EVERY SINGLE TIME, NO MATTER HOW CAREFULLY OR SLOWLY THE VEHICLE IS FUELED. THE QUANTITY EJECTED IS SUFFICIENT TO CREATE A SIGNIFICANT FIRE HAZARD. I HAVE LEARNED TO STAND FAR TO THE SIDE TO AVOID BEING SOAKED WITH GASOLINE.

I JUST BOUGHT MY 2008 DODGE NITRO. EVERY TIME I FILL IT WITH GAS AND TOP THE TANK OFF, THE PUMP CLICKS OFF AND A SECOND LATER, ABOUT A HALF GALLON OF GAS SPEWS OUT OF THE VEHICLES GAS TANK, DOWN THE SIDE OF MY VEHICLE AND ONTO THE GROUND. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD NOT ONLY FOR NITRO OWNERS BUT FOR THE PUBLIC AROUND US AS IT COULD POSSIBLY LEAD TO AN EXPLOSION IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. I'VE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE FROM OTHER NITRO OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. A FEW HAVE TAKEN THEIR VEHICLE INTO THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE'S A FACTORY DEFECT INSIDE THE TANK WHICH IS CAUSING THE ISSUE. THEY REPLACED THE TANK AND THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. PLEASE... There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with an unknown electrical wiring failure. The dealer replaced the battery cables; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.

MY 2008 DODGE NITRO WOULD NOT UNLOCK WITH THE REMOTE. I HAD TO UNLOCK IT MANUALLY. THEN THE CAR WOULD NOT START WITH THE KEY. ALL THE LIGHTS AND EVERYTHING WE'RE WORKING BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THEN ALL THE SUDDEN THE HORN WENT OFF THE WIPERS WERE GOING OFF AND THE WASHER SQUIRTERS WERE SQUIRTING AND WOULD NOT QUIT UNTIL I UNHOOK THE BATTERY.I READ A FORUM ONLINE THAT IT COULD POSSIBLY BE THE TIPM MODULE WHICH IS LOCATED BY THE BATTERY.I OPEN THE COVER AND PUSHED ON ALL THE FUSES. I HOOK THE BATTERY BACK UP AND TRIED TO START THE CAR AND IT STARTED.I'M GLAD THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING BECAUSE GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL I KNOW IT IS FIXED. I'VE ALSO READ THAT THERE IS RECALLS ON THESE MODULES ON SEVERAL YEARS IN THE DODGE NITRO. TAKATA RECALL ON 9-6-2012 MY HUSBAND WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT NOT HIS FAULT. HE WAS THE 3RD CAR IN RIGHT HAND LANE HEADING EAST AT A STOPLIGHT WITH CARS IN THE NEXT LANE ALSO AT THE STOPLIGHT NEXT TO HIM, A TRUCK HIT HIM GOING ABOUT 55-65 MPH AND HIS HEAD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSING HIM TO HAVE INJURIES REQUIRING LIFEFLIGHT TO A TRAUMA CENTER IN HOUSTON, TX. HE HAD A BRAIN INJURY AND REQUIRED 124 STITCHES IN HIS MOUTH AND A SEVERED SPLEEN. HE HAD A BRAIN BLEED AND IT NEVER FULLY WENT AWAY. MANY VISITS TO THE NEUROSURGEON AND CAT SCANS FOLLOWED FOR A YEAR. HE WAS NEVER ABLE TO GO BACK TO WORK. HE WAS 65 AT THE TIME AND WAS A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER AT TEXAS DEPT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE. HIS PERSONALITY CHANGED DUE TO THE PAIN HE SUFFERED AND HE DIED 7-2-17 WITH HEADACHES AND A BRAIN BLEED GOING ON. HIS AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED IN THE ACCIDENT. I BOUGHT MY NITRO BRAND NEW IN 2009. EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE WORKING EXCEPT THE RADIO. IN 2017 I STARTED HAVING BRAKE ISSUES . I HAD MY BREAKS REPLACED AND CALIPERS 4 TIMES BECAUSE THE BACK BREAKS WOULD NOT RELEASE ALL THE WAY CAUSING MY BREAK PADS TO WEAR FAST. I HAD TO LET IT SIT FOR SOME TIME BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID TO TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN IN IT FOR FEAR THAT THEY WOULD LOCK UP COMPLETELY. I TOOK IT 1 DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT MY NITRO FROM AND THEM 3 OTHER MECHANICS TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. IT IS NOT 2020 AND I JUST HAD IT IN THE SHOP BECAUSE THE WATER PUMP WENT AND FOUND OUT MY EMERGENCY BREAK SNAPPED I NEEDED NEW BREAKS AGAIN. I HATE TO GET RID OF MY NITRO BUT IT HAS BEEN NICKLE AND DIMING ME NOT KNOWING WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE BREAKS.

THE ABS, TRACTION, BAS ESP LIGHTS CAME ON JUST A WEEK AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AFTER I TOOK IT IN TO HAVE A RECALL COMPLETED. YESTERDAY THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED RED AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A BRIEF STOP ABRUPT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE LIGHT WENT OFF AND I CONTINUED DRIVING. THE A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOCKED UP CAUSING THE GAS METER, SPEEDOMETER AND RPM TO ALL FALL TO ZERO AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. I MADE IT OFF OF THE ROAD BY COASTING THE CAR AND PUT IT IN PARK. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING SO IT WASN'T THE BATTERY. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND PROCEEDED TO MY DESTINATION AND THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME BACK ON BRIEFLY AND ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEN WENT AWAY. IMAGINE MY DISMAY AS I HAD JUST HAD A RECALL COMPLETED AND WAS NOT INFORMED AS TO WHAT THE OTHER ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE BEEN. I HONESTLY AND TRUTHFULLY BELIEVE THAT THIS VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE A RECALLED PLACED ON IT FOR THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. I COULD HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF THE MALFUNCTIONING OF THIS VEHICLE.

I LOVE THIS VEHICLE EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKES. WE'VE HAD TO GET THE BRAKES WORKED ON MORE THAN 10 TIMES. WE'VE REPLACED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING TO DO WITH BRAKES. JUST WHEN YOU THINK THEY ARE FIXED, SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENS. THIS IS A 2008 AND HAS LESS THAN 38000 MILES ON IT. WE TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYWHERE BECAUSE I'M NOT SURE IF IT WILL MAKE IT. I WAS GOING TO TRADE MY NITRO IN FOR A FOR SOMETHING NEW. I THINK I WILL BE LOOKING INTO A FORD SUV. VERY , VERY DISSATISFIED!!!!

THIS IS MY THIRD INCIDENT WITH A FAULTY TIPM ON MY 2008 DODGE NITRO SLT. LIGHTS, HORNS, FRONT AND REAR WIPERS AS WELL AS THE WASHER FLUID SPRAYING OUT OF CONTROL. I REMOVE THE FUSE FOR BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT HORNS TO SILENCE THEM, THEN REMOVE THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE TO RESET THE TIPM. IT HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL SO FAR. LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT UNIT FOR PREVENTIVE MEASURES.

I WALKED OUT TO MY CAR ONE MORNING TO MAKE A TRIP INTO TOWN. THE INSTANT I OPENED THE DOOR THE HORN STARTED BLARING WITHOUT A PAUSE, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BOTH FRONT AND REAR WERE RUNNING ON THEIR TOP SPEED. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS EITHER WON'T COME ON AT ALL OR WILL CONTINUALLY MOVE ALL OVER THE WINDSHIELD AS YOU DRIVE. THE WIPER MALFUNCTION IS EXTREMELY WORSE IF YOU HAVE THE HEADLIGHTS ON AND USE THE TURN SIGNAL. THIS CAUSES THEM TO QUICKLY FULLY EXTEND TO THE VERY EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELDS DRIVERS SIDE. THIS CAUSES EXTREME VISIBILITY PROBLEMS. THE DODGE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM AFTER SEVERAL VISITS AND MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS OF REPLACING PARTS INCLUDING THE TURN SIGNAL WAND AND THE ENTIRE WIPER ASSEMBLY. THE MECHANIC SAID DODGE RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE TIPM, WHICH THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THIS PART ON NITROS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I COULD NOT BELIEVE ALL THE COMPLAINTS WITH NO ACTION BEING TAKEN BY CHRYSLER OR THE GOVERNMENT FOR MY MODEL YEAR. RECALLS WERE ISSUED FOR OLDER YEARS, SO WHY NOT THE 2008 WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS? I CAN'T SAFELY DRIVE MY CAR WITH MY VISION CONSTANTLY COMPROMISED AND I CAN'T EVEN SELL IT WITH ALL THE HORRIBLE REVIEWS. AT TIME THE THE NITRO WILL LOCK ME IN OR OUT DUE TO THE STEREO NOT POWERING OFF PROPERLY DUE TO THIS ISSUE YOU ALSO CAN NOT GET SATELLITE SERVICE TO WORK. DODGE NEEDS TO RECALL THIS ISSUE AS WE DID NOT ASK FOR THE ISSUE. ALSO, RECENTLY I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO LOCK MY VEHICLE BECAUSE A FEW SECONDS AFTER ACTIVATING THE LOCKS EITHER MANUALLY OR USING THE KEY FOB THE CAR UNLOCKS AND THE HEADLIGHTS COME ON. I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH I NEVER USED. NOW I HAVE AN AIR CONDITIONER BLOWING WARM TO HOT AIR. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO ABOUT 70-71 MILES PER HOUR WHEN SUDDENLY I HEARD A DING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CLOSEST EXIT WAS LESS THAN A QUARTER OF A MILE AWAY SO I TOOK THAT EXIT. AS I BEGAN TO EXIT THE INTERSTATE THE TRUCK BEGAN TO ACT REALLY STRANGE. THE SPEED OF THE TRUCK WAS ACTING UP, SLOWING DOWN/SPEEDING UP UNPREDICTABLY, AND EVEN THE STEERING GOT REALLY HARD TO CONTROL. AT THIS POINT A FEW MORE WARNING LIGHTS DINGED ON. AS THIS HAPPENED, I QUICKLY PULLED OFF TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FRONTAGE ROAD, PUT THE TRUCK INTO PARK, AND ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE. THE ENGINE HAD ALREADY SHUT ITSELF OFF. AT THIS POINT I TURNED OFF THE TRUCK WITH THE KEYS, OPENED THE DOOR AND NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I PULLED THE HOOD RELEASE PREPARED TO INSPECT UNDER THE HOOD AND NOTICED A LOT MORE WHITE SMOKE THAN THE FEW MOMENTS BEFORE. HAVING WALKED OVER TO THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK, I WONDERED IF IT WAS SAFE TO PUT MY HAND UNDER THE HOOD TO RELEASE THE LOCKING MECHANISM DUE TO THE LARGE AMOUNTS OF WHITE SMOKE. I have received multiple recall notices (recall W09/NHTSA 20V-396) since the recall was issued on my vehicle 20 months ago however I have been unable to get the recall completed because Dodge will not provide the parts needed to complete the repair. The notices all say that the part is available yet when my dealership tries to get the part, they are told it is out of stock with no eta as to when it will be available. This is NOT a timely manner and Dodge needs to provide the part now.

MECHANIC SAID IT'S THE MAIN COMPUTER MODULE AND WILL COST $1500-$2500 TO FIX. IF IT DIED WHILE WE WERE DRIVING IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC! THIS VEHICLE UTILIZES A SINGLE HEADLIGHT ASSY ON EACH SIDE CONSISTING OF AN H13 HIGH/LOW BEAM LAMP. SINGLE BEAM HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS HAVE TRADITIONALLY POWERED BOTH THE HIGH AND LOW BEAM FILAMENTS WHEN THE HIGH BEAM MODE IS SELECTED AND WHEN LOW BEAM MODE IS SELECTED ONLY THE LOW BEAM FILAMENT IS POWERED. WHEN HIGH BEAM IS SELECTED IN THIS VEHICLE, BOTH FILAMENTS ARE ENABLE BRIEFLY DURING THE TRANSITION FROM LOW TO HIGH. DURING THIS TRANSITION PERIOD THE LIGHT INTENSITY IS AT THE LEVEL ONE WOULD EXPECT TO SEE WHEN HIGH BEAM LIGHTS ARE SELECTED. I CLICKED THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON MY KEY AND THE HORN STARTED BLOWING CONSTANTLY, DOORS WERE LOCKING AND UNLOCKING, WIPERS WERE GOING REALLY FAST WITH WASHER FLUID GOING EVERYWHERE. I CRANK IT UP THINKING IT WOULD STOP. IT ALL KEPT GOING. I CUT THE KEY OFF AND TOOK THE KEY OUT. THE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING, THE HORN WAS STILL BLOWING, WIPERS STILL GOING WITH WASHER FLUID SPRAYING AND DOOR LOCKING AND UNLOCKING. I TOOK THE BATTERY CABLE LOOSE AND THIS ALL KEPT GOING ON! IT RAN FOR ABOUT 5 MORE MINUTES AND THEN STOPPED. I LEFT THE BATTERY UNHOOKED OVER NIGHT THINKING IT MAY RESET. THE NEXT DAY I HOOKED THE BATTERY UP AND IT RAN FINE FOR 1 DAY. ALL OF THE SAME PROBLEMS STARTED AGAIN ONE MORNING WHILE HEADING TO WORK. THEN IT STARTED DOING IT ON ME WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD ONE NIGHT ON A MAJOR HWY!! The vehicle throws the abs, esp,break and traction control lights and then while driving completely at random then turns off WHILE DRIVING!!!! which can cause an accident (I and my daughter are lucky to be alive) this is not ok the vehicle drives fine then at random throws those lights and shuts off after restarting it the check engine light comes on and says the transmission shift solenoid b is malfunction and the vehicle wouldn't shift properly. Luckily I had my code reader I. The car with me I cleared the code and now the car drives fine until this happens again I'm scared to drive it this is dangerous their's no warning. I drive on the highway everyday their's no warning it happens at random 2 times I've been lucky. No codes came up driving after clearing it and the car drives fine now but it's happened 2 times while driving this is extremely dangerous and I don't know what to do because with the codes gone the issues are gone but they randomly all the lights mentioned above come on and then the car shuts off with no warning then when you restart it it throws a different code for a different problem the first time was a low voltage code I cleared it and even Tho my battery tested good I replaced it and two days later the same issue and a different code

SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2010, IT'S HAD STRANGE ELECTRICAL ISSUES. FIRST, THE DOOR LOCKS HAVE BEEN MALFUNCTIONING. AFTER A COUPLE OF USES, THEY NO LONGER RESPOND TO THE REMOTE, OR DOOR LOCK BUTTON. NOR WILL THEY AUTOMATICALLY LOCK WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THAT'S VERY DANGEROUS. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT THE HORN WOULD RANDOMLY HONK. THE HONKING STOPPED FOR ABOUT A YEAR. TONIGHT, THE HONKING STARTED AT RANDOM AND WOULDN'T STOP. THE KEY WASN'T IN THE IGNITION AND THE CAR WAS PARKED. I HAD TO REMOVE THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE TO AVOID A VISIT FROM THE POLICE FOR DISTURBING THE PEACE. THE THIRD ISSUE IS THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. YET ANOTHER STRANGE ISSUE. WHEN STARTING THE ENGINE, THERE WILL BE S LONG START AS IF THE STARTER STAYS ENGAGED FOR TOO LONG. SOMETIMES , THE ENGINE WILL START, NOT IDLE AND JUST STOP. THE ENGINE HAS STARTED AND BARELY HAD ANY POWER AND WOULD BARELY MOVE.

I HAD A FRIEND TOW IT TO HIS SHOP AND HE HAD A LOOK. THE TIPM, WIRING HARNESS/WIRING AND SURROUNDING PLASTIC WAS ALL DESTROYED. HE SAID THE WIRES GOT SO HOT THAT IT WOULD ALL HAVE TO BE RE-RUN THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE, A $3500 TO 4000 ESTIMATE. FORGET THAT NOISE. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THAT THE CAR WAS MOVING WHEN ALL OF THIS HAPPENED AND HAD I NOT BEEN IN A QUIET NEIGHBORHOOD THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH, MUCH WORSE, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES FAILED.

THE HEADLIGHTS RANDOMLY TURN ON AND OFF EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS NOT RUNNING. THIS IS DRAINING THE BATTERY FREQUENTLY. REPLACING THE BATTERY HAS NOT HELPED WITH THIS ISSUE. I HAVE READ SEVERAL REVIEWS AND CHECKED FOR RECALLS AND IT SEEMS THAT SOME OF THE ISSUES THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH MY 2008 DODGE NITRO ARE VERY COMMON AMONGST OTHER DODGE DRIVERS AS WELL AS CHRYSLER 300 DRIVERS. I KNOW OF 2 OTHER PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH THEIR CHRYSLER 300S (OLDER 2007 MODELS). A RECALL NEEDS TO BE STARTED FOR SAFETY PURPOSES BECAUSE OPERATING THESE VEHICLES IN THIS STATE ARE HIGHLY UNSAFE. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK (ABOUT 530ISH ONE MORNING) AND THE ABS, ESP, TIPM, AND AIRBAG ICON ALL CAME ON AND THEN MY TRUCK STARTED STALLING OUT. THE GAS CAP WILL NOT SEAL CAUSING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO STAY ON AND THERE HAS BEEN CONTANT ELECTRIC ISSUES. FOR MONTHS, WE HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH UNLOCKING THE VEHICLE USING THE KEY FOB. PROBLEMS HAVE SINCE WORSENED IN THE LAST WEEK TO INCLUDE LOSS OF LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS, UNCONTROLLABLE HORN HONKING, FRONT AND REAR WIPER ACTIVATION WHEN NOT ENGAGED, DOORS LOCKING ON THEIR OWN, OVERNIGHT BATTERY DRAINAGE, TROUBLE STARTING THE VEHICLE, VEHICLE NOT TURNING OFF WITH KEY REMOVED, HORN HONKING WHILE DRIVING, ESP/BAS LIGHTS FLASHING, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT FLASHING, LIGHTS DIMMING AND A/C SYSTEM TURNING OFF ON ITS OWN. ALL RESEARCH POINTS TO A FAULTY TIPM SYSTEM, WHICH HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR PREVIOUS YEARS, AND YEARS FOLLOWING THE 2008 MODEL YEAR OF THIS VEHICLE. SOME OF THESE ISSUES HAVE OCCURRED WHILE SITTING PARKED WITH NO KEY IN THE IGNITION, OTHER ISSUES HAVE OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. IT'S VERY CONCERNING, AS THIS IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE, THAT THESE ISSUES COULD CAUSE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. THERE HAVE BEEN DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS REPORTED FOR THIS SAME MODEL YEAR VEHICLE TO THE NHTSA OF VEHICLES LOSING CONTROL OF STEERING AND BRAKING SYSTEMS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WITH A TWO YEAR OLD, HIS SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT, AND THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS VEHICLE IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY UNSAFE FOR US TO DRIVE.

THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I HAD JUST TURNED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN BUT THE HORN WAS GOING NON STOP AND THE WIPERS TOO. I COULDN'T PULL OVER BECAUSE THE STEERING WAS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. I EVENTUALLY WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO STOP WHEN MY FIANC ATTEMPTED TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 4 TIMES TOTALLY. THE HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. AT FIRST THEY WOULD FLASH ON AND OFF. AFTER 4 OR 5 TIMES OF TURNING ON THE LIGHTS, THEY WOULDN'T EVEN FLASH. WE TRIED CHANGING THE FUSES, BUT NOTHING WORKED. THE LIGHTS REMAINED INOPERATIVE UNTIL IT RAINED. ONCE IT RAINED, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE LIGHTS STARTED OPERATING NORMALLY. THIS PATTERN HAS CONTINUED FOR OVER A YEAR. SOMETIMES THE LIGHTS WORK AND SOMETIMES THEY DON'T. THE DEALER SAYS IT IS A TIPM PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH DODGE NITROS. WE DID HAVE A MECHANIC REPLACE THE LIGHTS/TURN SIGNAL LEVER IN THE CAR. THE LIGHTS WORKED WITHOUT ISSUE FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS. NOW, THEY ARE NOT WORKING AGAIN. AND NOW WE ARE HAVING OTHER ISSUES SUCH AS THE HORN GOING OFF AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND WASHER FLUID GOING OFF RANDOMLY AND NOTHING I DO WILL STOP IT. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES, EVERYTHING STOPPED ON ITS OWN. THANKFULLY, WE WERE IN A PARKING LOT AT THE TIME. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AT AN EXTREMELY HIGH RATE OF SPEED. TOOK IT TO GILMAN CHRYSLER ON 59 SW FREEWAY IN HOUSTON, THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. WITHIN THE PAST TWO YEARS HAVE HAD FUEL INJECTOR SERVICE, SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT AND FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE, ALL AT THE ABOVE DEALERSHIPS. VEHICLE NOW HAS ABOUT 75,000 MILES. PROBLEM STILL EXIST ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2008 DODGE NITRO IN NOV 2010 (STILL COVERED BY EXTENDED WARRANTY). I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR SYSTEMS WENT HAYWIRE, THE DASH LIGHTS ILLUMINATING, WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND WASHER FLUID ENGAGED, THE HEADLIGHTS CUTTING OUT AND THE HORN BLARING UNCONTROLLABLY. TURNING THE CAR OFF DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND IT EVENTUALLY STOPPED AFTER 3-4 MINUTES. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE WAY TO WORK (THIS TIME THE RADIO TURNED TO FULL VOLUME WITH NO ASSIST), THE HEAT CUT OUT AND THE WINDSHIELD/LIGHTS/HORN WENT NUTS. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND WAS ASSURED THEY'D FIND THE PROBLEM. THE DODGE DEALERSHIP RAN DIAGNOSTICS, PULLED CODES, BUT COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE SO TOLD ME IT WAS "ABSOLUTELY FINE" TO DRIVE. I CONTINUED TO DEAL WITH THE 'FREAK OUTS' THROUGHOUT THE YEARS, UNTIL ANOTHER ONE HAPPENED WHERE THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP (UNTIL WE DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY). I BROUGHT IT TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO PULLED CODES AND SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM, BUT I HAD TO BRING IT TO DODGE. ON THE WAY TO WORK AT APPROX 70 MPH, I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR (IT WAS AS IF I WERE SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES-ALTHOUGH THEY WERE NEVER ENGAGED) I AM LUCKY THE PERSON BEHIND ME WAS ABLE TO SWERVE AROUND ME AND NOT REAR-END ME. DODGE DETERMINED THAT THE COMPUTER TOLD MY TRANSMISSION TO GO INTO 'FAIL MODE' THRUSTING ME INTO 2ND GEAR. I PAID FOR ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY TOLD ME A TUNE-UP AND A CLEANING OF THE BATTERY COILS WOULD CLEAR THE PROBLEM. THE CAR WORKED NORMAL FOR A WHILE, BUT THEN HAD TWO MORE INCIDENTS, ANOTHER FAIL MODE ON THE HIGHWAY (WHICH ALSO INCLUDED LIGHTS/WIPERS/HORN). I AM PREGNANT AND FEEL VERY UNSAFE IN THIS CAR. DODGE CONTINUES TO MAINTAIN THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. 3 WEEKS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED TO GO ALL BY THEMSELVES, GAUGES WENT TO 0, A/C STOPPED WORKING, HORN WOULD BEEP, WINDOWS AND LOCKS DID NOT WORK. THIS WOULD LAST FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES AS YOU WOULD DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD. THIS WENT ON FOR A FEW DAYS BEFORE I COULD BRING IT IN. ALSO EACH AND EVERY TIME I WOULD FILL THE GAS TANK IT WOULD OVER FLOW. OBVIOUSLY THE SENSOR TO KNOW WHEN THE TANK IS FULL DOESNT ENGAGE PROPERLY. THE ELESTRICAL ISSUE WAS FIXED AND WAS SAID IT WAS A CENSOR GONE BAD. THIS IS NOW HAPPENING AGAIN. I CAN NOT GET ANYONE TO SAY THERE IS AN ISSUE, I AM AFRAID THAT A FIRE MAY START OR I COULD BE IN AN ACCIDENT WITH MY CHILD AND POSSIBLY OTHER PASSENGERS.

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
