TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 DODGE RAM 2500. THE BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED IN THREE PLACES. THE FAILURES OCCURRED NEAR THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE FRAME RAIL. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED. THE BRAKES ALSO FAILED IN HIS DRIVEWAY AND AT A DRIVE THROUGH WINDOW. THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED IN PARTS SINCE THE DEALER NO LONGER SELLS THE ALL OF THE ORIGINAL PARTS. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT IT OCCURS AS THOUGH IT WERE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE VEHICLE IS CONSIDERED AN 8800 DUE TO THE WEIGHT CLASS. THE VEHICLE IS UP-TO-DATE ON ITS ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000. I HAD BEEN DRIVING MY 1997 RAM 1500 4X4 TRUCK, I STOP THE VEHICLE, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, OPENED THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND STARTED TO STEP OUT OF THE VEHICLE. AS I WAS HALF WAY OUT OF THE VEHICLE THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG WENT OFF, HITTING MY RIGHT SHOULDER AS IT DEPLOYED. I AM VERY LUCKY IT DID NOT DEPLOY A SECOND SOONER. I WADDED THE BAG UP AND TAPED THE STEERING WHEEL BACK TOGETHER, I GUESS THE IS NOTHING ELSE I CAN DO. I WORRY NOW ABOUT MY FATHER, WHOM HAS A 1995 RAM 1500 4X4 TRUCK. I LOOKED UP ONLINE AND I SEE THAT ONLY THE 2003 RAM 1500 AND NEWER TRUCKS FALL INTO THE RECALL, BUT WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT MY FATHER'S TRUCK MIGHT DO THE SAME THING AS MINE DID LAST WEEK, WITH HIS BEING 2 YEARS OLDER EVEN.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER REACHING MY DESTINATION ABOUT 5 MINUTES OR SO LATER. I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, OPENED THE DOOR AND THE DRIVERS AIRBAG DEPLOYED ALL BY ITSELF. LUCKILY I WAS SITTING BACK IN THE SEAT STARTING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WHEN IT DEPLOYED. NOW I HAVE BEEN WITH THIS TRUCK SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN A ACCIDENT. IT ACTUALLY SET FOR A LARGE PART OF ITS LIFE BECAUSE I DROVE A COMPANY VEHICLE FOR MY JOB. I CALLED THE DODGE DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF THE TRUCK AND TOLD ME I SHOULD CONTACT DODGE DIRECTLY. I CALLED DODGE AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LADY THAT ANSWERED AND THE FIRST THING SHE ASKED WAS IF I WAS INJURED. I TOLD HER LUCKILY NO BUT ME OR SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING. SHE FINISHED TAKING THE REPORT AND SAID SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT ME IN 2-3 DAYS. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM DODGE ABOUT A WEEK LATER STATING THAT SINCE THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES LISTED FOR THE TRUCK PER THE SERIAL NUMBER I SHOULD CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND IF THEY FEEL ITS A MANUFACTURING RESPONSIBILITY ,THEY HAVE SUBROGATION RIGHTS. NOW YOU WOULD THINK DODGE WOULD WANT TO KNOW WHAT MADE THIS HAPPEN FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THESE TRUCKS BUT MY SERIAL NUMBER WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THAT RECALL. MY TRUCK IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AND I'M AFRAID THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS GOING TO TOTAL IT BECAUSE OF ITS AGE.SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE THESE MANUFACTURERS STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS ESPECIALLY WHEN IT INVOLVES THE SAFETY EQUIPMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHEMICALS FROM THE AIR BAG CAUSED BURNS TO THE FACE AND EYES, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT JUMPED OUT OF THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS NEARLY RUN OVER BY THE VEHICLE THAT WAS STILL MOVING IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY A MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FRONT AIR BAG SENSOR FAILED AND CAUSED THE INADVERTENT AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO ADVISED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 99V02300 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL). THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. ADDITIONALLY, THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE NO LONGER BEING MANUFACTURED. I DROVE 20 MILES TO PICK UP MY ELDERLY FATHER TO TAKE HIM OUT TO LUNCH LAST FRIDAY, THE 21ST OF MARCH, 2008. AFTER WE GOT IN MY TRUCK, (1997 DODGE RAM PU 1500), I PUT IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, I HEARD A HISSING SOUND AND REALIZED THE AIR WAS COMING OUT OF MY TIRE. I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK, THE TIRE WAS FLAT AND I NOTICED THE TIE ROD HAD BROKEN, AND DROPPED DOWN AND PUT A HOLE IN THE RIM OF MY TIRE. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING 55MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED OR WORSE YET, KILLED!! IT COST ME OVER $350 AND I HEARD SOMEONE ELSE SAY THAT SOMEONE THEY KNEW HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE. I DID NOT HEAR ANYTHING BEFORE TO ALERT ME TO THE FACT THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TIE ROD. MY DODGE 1997 RAM 2500 TRUCK WITH 8.0L V-10 ENGINE SUFFERED SUDDEN AND COMPLETE LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE AND SUBSEQUENT ENGINE SEIZURE ON 13 AUGUST 2005. THE TRUCK HAD 74254 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AT THE TIME OF THE ENGINE FAILURE. THE OIL LEVEL IN THE ENGINE WAS NORMAL (FULL) AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. AFTER THE ENGINE FAILURE, THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DODGE TRUCK DEALER IN BOZEMAN, MONTANA. I WAS ADVISED BY THE ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER THAT HE HAD SEEN SEVERAL DODGE TRUCK V-10??S WITH SEIZED ENGINES DUE TO OIL PUMP FAILURES BUT HE KNEW OF NO FACTORY PROGRAM TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WITHIN A FEW DAYS THE DEALER PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE OF $9461 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH A MOPAR REBUILT ENGINE AND PROVIDE A 3-YEAR WARRANTY ON THE WORK. GIVEN THE RELATIVELY HIGH REPAIR COST QUOTED BY THE DEALER, AND AN APPARENT LACK OF ANY FACTORY PROGRAM TO COVER EVEN A PORTION OF THE REPAIR COST, I ELECTED TO HAVE THE ENGINE REBUILT BY A LOCAL INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. DURING DISASSEMBLY OF THE ENGINE, IT WAS FOUND THAT ONE OF THE GEARS IN THE OIL PUMP HAD FRACTURED (BROKEN) IN SEVERAL PLACES. THESE FRACTURES CAUSED A SUDDEN AND COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED FAILURE OF THE OIL PUMP, A COMPLETE LOSS OF ENGINE OIL PRESSURE, AND SUBSEQUENT SEIZURE OF THE ENGINE A FEW SECONDS OF OPERATION LATER. THE OIL PUMP GEARS WERE PHOTOGRAPHED AND THESE IMAGES CAN BE PROVIDED. THE INNER GEAR IS BROKEN IN SEVERAL PIECES. ALL OF THE OIL PUMP PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. SINCE OIL PUMP GEARS ARE INTERNAL ENGINE PARTS NOT SUBJECT TO ROUTINE PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND NOT SUBJECT TO ABUSE BY THE VEHICLE OPERATOR, THE FAILURE IS CLEARLY DUE TO MATERIAL DEFECT OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT. A SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED ENGINE SEIZURE IN A HIGHWAY VEHICLE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE OWNED A 1995 DODGE 2500 AND A 1997 DODGE 3500. I HAVE SOME CONCERNS WITH A STEERING PROBLEM WITH THESE MODELS. IF A POTHOLE OR RAILROAD TRACKS ARE HIT AT A SPEED OF AT LEAST 55 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY. WHEN THIS HAPPENED WITH MY 1995 I SPENT OVER $400.00 IN JUST PARTS REPLACING ALMOST ALL OF THE STEERING PARTS. NOW THIS IS HAPPENING WITH THE 1997. TONIGHT MY THROTTLE GOT STUCK ON MY 97 DODGE RAM 1500 (ALL STOCK PARTS). AFTER STOPPING AT A LIGHT, I PULLED OUT, THEN ACCELERATED TO 50 MPH, AND LET OFF THE GAS; BUT THE TRUCK KEPT ACCELERATING. THE REPAIR SHOP PUT THE STEERING COLUMN IN WRONG POSITION , AND ADVISED HER THEY WOULD NEED TO ORDER A NEW ONE. ALSO, THEY CUT THE AIR BAG WHEN REPLACING THE STEERING COLUMN. MY TRUCK WAS AT A STAND STILL WHEN I WAS REAR-ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. AT POINT OF IMPACT, BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEATS BROKE AND RECLINED TO THE REARWARD POSITION. BOTH SEATS FAILED TO HOLD UP TO THE IMPACT! THE CONSEQUENCE OF THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BREAKING IS THAT MY SON, WHO WAS POSITIONED BEHIND THE DRIVERS SEAT, BROKE HIS JAW WHEN HE WAS THROWN FORWARD, AFTER THE SEAT HAD ALREADY BROKEN TO THE REARWARD POSITION. THERE IS A SAFETY STANDARD REQUIRING HEAD RESTRAINTS TO PREVENT OR REDUCE WHIPLASH INJURIES YET THERE IS APPARENTLY NO STANDARD THAT REQUIRES THE SEAT BACK HOLDING SUCH HEAD RESTRAINT TO REMAIN STANDING UPRIGHT DURING AN ACCIDENT WHERE SUCH HEAD RESTRAINT WOULD BE NEEDED. I WAS REAR ENDED ON AN EXPRESSWAY. THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING SIGNIFICANTLY FASTER THAN I WAS. THE IMPACT WAS SEVERE ENOUGH THAT THE INTERIOR SHELVING IN MY VAN BUCKLED DUE TO THE SHOCK TO ITS LOAD. THE DRIVER'S SEAT BACK RECLINER STRIPPED COMPLETELY, ALLOWING THE SEAT BACK TO COLLAPSE. IN FACT, THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE SEAT FROM COLLAPSING ALL THE WAY WAS THE CARGO LOADED BETWEEN THE SEAT AND THE SHELVES. INSTEAD OF A WHIPLASH INJURY, I RECEIVED A LOWER BACK INJURY FROM MY BACK BEING SNAPPED BACK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SEAT. WHAT GOOD IS A HEAD RESTRAINT IF THE SEAT BACK DOESN'T HOLD IT UP? FURTHERMORE, IN THE SEARCH TO FIND A USED SEAT TO AVOID HAVING TO DISMANTLE THE SEAT TO REPLACE THE STRIPPED RECLINER, I DISCOVERED THAT ALL SIMILAR DODGE VANS IN THE JUNK YARDS WITH THE DELUXE HIGH BACK SEATS ARE SIMILARLY STRIPPED. I SEARCHED JUNKYARDS DESPITE THE POLICE OFFICER WHO CAME TO THE ACCIDENT SCENE SAYING THAT SEATS COLLAPSING DURING REAR END ACCIDENTS WAS COMMON. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 DODGE RAM 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS AND APPROXIMATELY ONE QUARTER TANK OF GASOLINE EVAPORATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED FIFTEEN TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS BUT NEITHER COULD DETERMINE THE CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. FIFTEEN YEARS PASSED AND THE CONTACT BEGAN TO SMELL GASOLINE WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE. HE ALSO NOTICED GASOLINE FUEL LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND BASED ON THE COMPONENTS THAT WERE SURROUNDING THE FUEL PUMP, HAD BEEN LEAKING FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THE PRESSURE RELIEF ROLL OVER VALVE WAS IDENTIFIED AS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. I HAVE A 1997 DODGE RAM TRUCK 3500 WITH 5.9 LITER 6 CYLINDER DIESEL LARAMIE SLT. THE FUEL GAUGE HASN'T WORKED FOR 5 YEARS NOW AND THE FUEL SENDING UNIT IS DEFECTIVE. I WOULD PURCHASE A NEW ONE, BUT COST TO ME FOR THE FUEL SENDING UNIT PART IS $198.00. CURRENTLY, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE THAT SEEMS TO HAVE FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNITS, I SET THE TRIPMETER AND GO 300-350 MILES AND THEN FILL UP THE TANK. 1997 DODGE DIESEL 2500: FUEL LINE DIRECTLY BEHIND DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL HAS A HOLE WORN IN IT BY WAY OF CONTACT WITH NEIGHBORING FUEL OR OTHER LINE. THE NEIGHBORING LINE HAS A CONNECTOR OR FITTING THAT THROUGH VIBRATION AND DIRECT CONTACT HAS WORN A HOLE IN THE METAL FUEL LINE. THE LINE IS PRESSURIZED ADN RELEASES DIESEL FUEL THROUGH THE HOLE ONTO THE VEHICLE FRAME AND UNDERCARRIAGE. RATE OF LEAKAGE IS SUFFUCIENT TO RELEASE APPROXIMATELY ONE GALLON OF FUEL IN A 20 MINUTE PERIOD. LINE IS ALSO CORRODED FROM YEARS OF WINTER ROAD SURFACE TREATMENT AND MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE WEAR OF THE LINE. HOWEVER THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT CONTACT BETWEEN TEH TWO LINES IS THE MAIN REASON FOR THE DAMAGE LINE AND FUEL LEAK. WE OWN A 1997 DODGE RAM TRUCK. WHILE I WAS BUCKLING TWO INFANTS SEATS IN OUR REAR SEAT USING THE OVER THE SHOULDER BELTS, THE LOCKING PLATES THAT KEEP THE BELT TIGHT AROUND THE CAR SEATS POPPED OFF. THEREFORE I AM NOT ABLE TO USE THOSE SEAT BELTS CURRENTLY FOR CAR SEATS. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DODGE DEALER AND TOLD THEM THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $130 PLUS LABOR TO HAVE EACH BELT REPLACED. I DO NOT THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS SINCE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF THESE PLATES WILL POP OFF WITH ME TIGHTENING, WHO IS NOT TO SAY THEY WILL NOT COME OFF IN AN ACCIDENT. THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS CUT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT TO THE STORE A MOTORIST FLASHED THEIR LIGHTS AT ME WHILE I WAS AT A LIGHT.. CHECKED ALL FUSES AND HAD MECHANIC LOOK IT OVER. THEY NARROWED IT DOWN TO THE STEERING COLUMN IT WILL BE 400$ TO FIX. THE WIRE HARNESS PIN PLUG HAD OVERHEATED AND MELTED. ALMOST CAUSED A FIRE. I HAD SMELLED BURNING ELECTRIC SMELL. WAS ONLY ABLE TO HOLD HI BEAM LEVER TO KEEP HI BEAMS ENGAGED TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE WITH LIGHTS TILL PROBLEM IS FIXED.

PROBLEM RECURRED AGAIN AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS, THIS TIME HOT/BURNING WIRES COULD BE SMELLED. TOOK VEHICLE TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY FINALLY DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED LIGHT SWITCH IN DASH. BY THIS TIME ONE OF THE WIRES HAD NEARLY BURNED ALL THE WAY TO THE MAIN HARNESS. REPLACED SWITCH AND ALL FINE FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. BEEN LIVING WITH NO HIGH BEAMS WAITING FOR TIME TO RIG A RELAY TO TAKE LOAD OFF SWITCH. WAS DRIVING AND HEADLIGHTS UNEXPECTEDLY WENT OUT. TURNED SWITCH OFF AND BACK ON AND LIGHTS WOULD COME BACK ON EACH TIME, BUT WOULD IMMEDIATELY GO BACK OFF. DID SO THREE CONSECUTIVE TIMES. TURNED ON EMERGENCY FLASHERS TO GET HOME. THEY WENT OFF A TOTAL OF 6 TIMES IN A 3 MILE TRIP. I FOUND A RECALL ON LIGHT DUTY ONLY, BUT NOTHING ON MY TRUCK. THEY NEED TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THIS IS VERY HAZARDOUS , ALMOST WRECKED THE TRUCK BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED AT 1130 AT NIGHT WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP MY SON FROM A FOOTBALL GAME. UPON INSPECTION OF THE HITCH (3 BOLTS PER SIDE), AT THE 90 DEGREE BEND OF THE HITCH, THE DRIVER SIDE IS CRACKED 7/8 OF THE LENGTH; THE PAX SIDE IS CRACKED 2 ". BRAKES WERE REPLACED, FRONT END ALIGNED, TIRES WERE REPLACED WITHOUT ANY IMPACT ON CONDITION. FURTHER RESEARCH AND TIME AND $ SPENT FINDS CHRYSLER HAS A TSB #05-03-97 THAT TELLS YOU TO PUT A SPACER BETWEEN THE HUB AND WHEEL OF VARYING SIZES UNTILL YOU FIND ONE THAT CHANGES THE FRONT END GEOMETRY TILL IT NOLONGER PULLS. THIS IS AFTER YOU HAVE FILED BRAKE COMPONETS. IF THIS DOES NOT CURE THE PROBLEM , THEN YOU ARE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HUB ASSY WHICH THEN MAY CAUSE YOU TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE TRIAL AND ERROR SHIM BUSINESS AGAIN. THIS VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND WARRANTY INCLUDING CHRYSLERS MAXIMUM WRAP WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THIS FIX ACCOURDING TO AUFFENBURG AND A DEALER IN OLATHE KS I STOPPED AT LAST WEEK. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 DODGE RAM 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, A STRONG FUEL ODOR EMITTED FROM THE CABIN. THIS VAN WAS A GREAT RUNNING VEHICLE, AND HAD NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS OTHER THAN THE NORMAL FOR A VAN OF THIS YEAR. MY GRANDSON AND I WERE HEADED OUT OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND I STARTED SMELLING GAS. NOW THE STEERING HAS AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF PLAY AND WHILE IN THE CENTER OF THE (STEERING PLAY) IT IS AS IT BINDS OR STICKS AT TIMES WHERE THE "TOOTH" USED TO BE ON THE STEERING GEAR. IT HAS BECOME QUITE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS OR ON THE INTERSTATE AS THE VEHICLE TENDS TO WANDER NOW AND FOLLOW THE CRACKS IN THE ROAD. I HAVE OWNED DODGE RAM PICKUPS FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS SINCE I BOUGHT MY FIRST BRAND NEW RAM PICKUP AND LET ME TELL YOU, THEY HAVE ALL HAD ISSUES WITH LOOSE STEERING BOXES, EVEN THE NEW ONE. BUT WHEN THEY BREAK, THAT IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT PEOPLE CANNOT SEE COMING WITH A NORMAL INSPECTION AS ON THE OUTSIDE, WEAR IS UNDETECTABLE. I HAVE BEEN AN ASE CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN THE BETTER PART OF MY ADULT LIFE AND THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE THOTTLE STUCK IN THE WIDE OPEN POSITION AND WOULD NOT RETURN TO IDLE. THE BRAKES WERE JUST ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE OUTER DASH SILENCER PAD CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNED THE CLUTCH AND FUEL LINES. IT FRIED THE COMPUTER, THE OCCUPANTS WERE ALMOST KILLED. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED #737, IN AUGUST 1997. THE CUSTOMER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER PAID ALL REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT THE CLAIM WAS DENIED. CHRYSLER WILL NOT HELP THE CONSUMER WITH THE REPAIR BILLS, TOM KELLY MADE A DECISION AND THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT HE DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH PEOPLE AND HIS DECISION WAS FINAL. THE CONSUMER HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE BEFORE THE INCIDENT AND WAS OUT OF STATE WHEN IT HAPPENED. THE CONSUMER REALIZED THE RECALL WAS FOR DODGE TRUCKS BUILT MARCH 7, 1997 THROUGH MAY 15, 1997 AND THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE WAS BUILT ON MAY 16, 1997. *JB THE ALTERNATOR WAS INOPERATIVE DUE TO A BAD PCM WHICH WAS REPLACED. PASSENGER SIDE EXTERIOR MIRROR IS DEFECTIVE. IT WILL NOT REMAIN STATIONARY AND MOVE AROUND IN THE WIND. ORIGINALLY HAD VEHICLE IN FOR 'WANDERING STEERING' BEFORE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THEY REPLACED STEERING BOX, TIE RODS, BALL JOINTS, IDLER ARM AND OTHER RELATED COMPONETS. 2)18,276 MILES LATER, SAME DEALERSHIP STATES NEEDS NEW TIE RODS, IDLER ARM, PITMAN ARM, AND BALL JOINTS ON LEFT FRONT. FEEL THESE PARTS SHOULD BE REPLACED FREE AS THEY REPLACED THEMSELVES ONLY 18,000 MILES AGO. HAVE PROVIDED PROPER MAINTENANCE. IN THE MEANTIME, GETTING THESE AREAS GREASED AND EXAMINED AS DIRECTED IN OWNERS MANUAL BY CERTIFIED MECHANICS. 3)SAME DEALERSHIP THIS WEEK REPLACED HEADER AND MANIFOLD GASKETS STATING THEY WERE BURNED UP DUE TO OUR USING PLATINUM TIP SPARK PLUGS WHICH SUPPOSEDLY CAUSED GASKETS TO BURN UP AND ALLOW OIL TO LEAK INTO CYLINDER. ($459)THEY ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC COVERTER (UNDER WARRANTY). THROUGH RESEARCH ON INTERNET, HAVE FOUND THAT THE INTAKE ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE AND CAUSES EXACT PROBLEMS I WAS CHARGED FOR. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS PROBLEM, HAVE DOCUMENTATION THAT VEHICLE WAS IN THEIR SHOP ON OR AROUND THE TIME AT LEAST 2 OF THESE BULLETINS WERE ISSUED WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS THEY WERE TOLD TO LOOK FOR (OVERHEATING, SMELLING OF BURNING COMING FROM ENGINE, SMELL OF RAW GAS INSIDE VEHICLE). AS FAR AS WE CAN TELL, THEY HAVE NEVER CHECKED OR REPLACED THE INTAKE. VEHICLE: 1997 DODGE RAM EXTENDED CAB LARAMIE EDITION. 5.2 L , V-8 ENGINE. MECHANICS ALL SAID VEHICLE IS A DANGER TO DRIVE INJURY COULD RESULT, IT CANNOT BE REPAIRED. IT HAS BEEN WORKED ON FOR THIS BUCKING PROBLEM ABOUT 15+ TIMES. NEW SHOCKS, CLUTCH ASSBLY, TIRES, STAB SHOCKS, DRIVE LINES, DRIVE LINES BALANCED, CARRIER BEARINGS, REAR END, ENTIRE REAR AXLE, SPRINGS, ETC., AND MANY OTHER STABS AT THE PROBLEM HAVE BEEN DONE. THE REAR WHEELS WILL STILL BUCK SO BAD THE WHEELS COME OFF THE PAVEMENT AT TIMES. CHRYSLER SAID THAT PERSONAL SAFETY WAS NOT A CONCERN, ONLY THE BOTTOM LINE DOLLAR IN THEM BUYING THIS VEHICLE BACK. AT LEAST 2 MECHANICS, A SERVICE MGR. AND THE CUSTOMER RELATIONS LADY AT MONTANA DODGE HAVE SAID THIS PICKUP IS UNSAFE FOR ME TO BE DRIVING. THE REAR END IS NOW GOING OUT, THE TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING NOW AND IT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. CHRYSLER SAID THEY WOULD BUY IT BACK, PENALIZING ME DEARLY ON MILEAGE EVEN THOUGH THE TRUCK HAS HAD PROBLEMS SINCE IT WAS NEW. MONTANA DODGE HAS TOLD CHRYSLER THEY WILL NOT WORK ON IT ANYMORE, THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY IS STILL GOOD FOR ANOTHER 25,000 MILES OR 2 MORE YEARS. THE "LAISON" PAID BY CHRYSLER IS WHO TOLD ME THAT SAFETY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PRICE CHRYSLER PAID ME, IT WAS JUST A BOTTOM LINE DOLLAR THEY WERE CONCERNED ABOUT. CHRYSLER TROUBLESHOOTER TECHS SENT A VIB MACHINE TO PINPOINT THE PROBLEM, IT SHOWED TO BE THE OUTPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANSFER CASE. A USED TRANSFER CASE WAS INSTALLED, IT STILL BUCKED. USED PARTS WERE TRADED OUT FOR THE ENTIRE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY AND IT STILL BUCKED. THIS BUCKING IS SO VIOLENT, THAT STUFF OFF THE DASH WILL GO INTO THE BACK SEAT AREA IF I ALLOW IT TO STAY IN THIS BUCKING MODE. SOMEONE WOULD 100% WITHOUT DOUBT BE INJURED SERIOUSLY OR KILLED IF THIS VEHICLE WERE TO REMAIN ON THE HIGHWAY. CHRYSLER DOESN'T SEEM TO REALLY CARE AND SAID AS MUCH THROUGH THEIR LAISON. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR LISTENING. I EITHER SELL IT BACK TO CHRYSLER AT A GREAT MONEY LOSS OR DRIVE A DANGEROUS VEHICLE.

ENGINE HAS ALWAYS PINGED ON REGULAR GAS - 5+ TRIPS TO DODGE FOR SERVICE AND THEY NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. AT ONE POINT, THEY POURED FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER IN THE ENGINE WHICH IS SOMETHING THEY TELL YOU NOT TO DO WHEN YOU PURCHASE THE VEHICLE. AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM COMPLETELY SHOT AT 50,000 MILES IN OCTOBER, 2001. A MONTH LATER, MY REAR-END WENT UP AT A COST OF $1345. TWO WEEKS LATER, MY TRANSMISSION WENT UP AT A COST OF $1700. IN JUNE OF 2001, MY FUEL PUMP WENT UP AT A COST OF $216. I DID NOT HAVE ANY OF THESE REPAIRS DONE AT DODGE ALTHOUGH I PURCHASED DODGE PARTS BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER FIXED ANYTHING WITHOUT EITHER SCREWING UP SOMETHING ELSE OR JUST NOT PROPERLY REPAIRING THE PROBLEMS. I CALLED THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR REPAIR PRICES AND THEY WERE MUCH HIGHER THAN INDEPENDENT SERVICE SHOPS. I WROTE THEM FOR ASSISTANCE WITH THESE REPAIR COSTS BUT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST ME BECAUSE REPAIRS WERE NOT DONE AT DODGE. THEY SAID I SHOULD HAVE ASKED THEM FOR HELP FIRST BUT I COULD NOT WAIT FOR A RESPONSE FROM THEM BECAUSE I NEEDED MY VEHICLE RIGHT AWAY. I ALSO DID NOT TRUST THEM TO PROPERLY REPAIR MY VEHICLE. OF COURSE, MY TRUCK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY FOR ALL OF THE PROBLEMS. I EVEN TOOK THEM TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT FOR THE ENGINE PING THEY COULD NOT CORRECT AND THEY BROUGHT IN 4 HIGH DOLLAR LAWYERS, SO, OF COURSE, IOST THE CASE. I HAVE NOT YET HAD MY AIR CONDITIONER REPAIRED. I AM GOING TO CONTACT THEM TO SEE IF THEY WILL REPAIR IT WITH SOME FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE ALTHOUGH I AM NOT SURE IF I SHOULD TRUST THEM AT THIS POINT. I HAVE SPENT A TOTAL OF $3,331 IN REPAIRS OVER THE PAST 3 MONTHS AND AM NOT FINISHED YET. WHAT A LEMON! TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED 1-22-00. *AK VEHICLE EXPERIENCES SEVERAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS AMONGST THE REPAIRS, DRIVESHAFT BROKE WHILE DRIVING, CONSUMER STATES THAT CHRYSLER CORP HAS NO RECORDS OF A TRANSMISSION BEING SENT TO NEW COUNTRY DODGE WHERE THE REPLACEMENT TOOK PLACE, TRANSFER CASE WAS RETORQUED, CONSUMER HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER MANY TIMES PRIOR TO COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND DEALER COULD NOT REMEDY PROBLEMS. CLUNKING NOISE UNDER VEHICLE, DEALER REPLACED FRONT SWAYBAR LINKS. O2 SENSOR REPLACED. CONSUMER STATED AT TIMES HE HADTO HIT THE STARTER WITH A HAMMER TO GET IT TO WORK, IGNITION COIL FAILED, AND BATTERY FAILED. VEHICLE STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF FUEL USED, DISTRIBUTOR CAP WAS REPLACED, VEHICLE ALSO BACKFIRING. THIS PROBLEM IS IN REGARDS TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT. SUMMARY OF PROBLEM: INTERMINTENT SURGE,BUCK,DRIVELINE CLUNK, OR TRANSFER HARSHNESS. THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED IN SERVICE BULLETIN # 96-40, NHTSA ITEM # SBO49106. I HAVE BEEN ESPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THIS FOR SOME TIME I HAVE APPROACHED 2 DIFFERENT DEALERS ,HENDRICK DODGE AND BUMPOUS DODGE. THEY RECEIVED MY TRUCK WITH 29,000 MILES ON IT CONTINUED TO DRIVE TILL WARRANTY EXPIRED AND CLAIMED NOTHING WAS WRONG. AS A RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM IT HAS LOOSENED THE THE REAR SHACKLES CAUSING THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL TO BECOME LOOSE AND CAUSE EXTREME WEAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRES. I HAVE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO SATISFACTION WITH THE EITHER DEALERSHIP THIS VEHICLE IS A LEMON. IN THE PAST I HAD TO RETURN IT 7 TIMES TO HAVE A WATER LEAK FIXED, OF COURSE NO DOCUMENTATION WAS GIVEN TO ME, AT THE TIME IT NEVER OCCURED TO ME THAT THIS WOULD BE USEFUL. SMART ON THEIR PART.
