The door ajar sensor is faulty. The lights stay on in the car even after the door is closed. This is a safety risk when driving at night. While driving the audible ding will go off while driving causing a distraction from driving. There was a recall issued but it has expired even though the issue is still existent. Ford says they will not cover the cost of the repair because it is expired even though we received no notification of the recall.

2012 Ford Edge brake failure occurred without any warning while I was driving on I85. Brake pedal went to floor with diminished braking ability when a vehicle adjacent changed lanes quickly to in front of my vehicle. Luckily no accident occurred. Vehicle was taken to Ford dealer. A previous issue with brakes happened in 2021/mileage 109k and brake booster was replaced under recall 13N02 at that time. Dealer diagnosed current brake issue and recommended replacing HCU AND MASTER CYLINDER DUE TO VALVES AND SEAL LEAKING INTERNALLY. RELACE OIL SENDING UNIT ALSO DUE TO IT LEAKING OIL. Mileage 146K Vehicle is unsafe to drive as is. Cost of repairs is close to value of car.

Ford Edge 2012 Limited 2.0L [XXX] The brake pedal went all the way to the floor while my wife was driving a few times. The brakes DID NOT STOP OR SLOW THE CAR AT ALL! She pumped the brake pedal and braking came back. But, after that we could not trust the brake system. We paid AutoNation Ford in Fort Worth, Texas $2,694.45 on 10/11/2023 to replace the ABS system, after their recommendation that this will fix the problem. This did fix the problem until recently this past week on 9/21/2025, when the brake pedal went to the floor without any braking, just continued to move forward in our driveway. The next push on the brake pedal did provide braking but now seems a little soft. My wife’s sister also has a Ford Edge with similar or the same symptoms, a 2013 Edge. My daughter has a 2012 Ford Fusion with similar or the same symptoms. This is a very dangerous SAFETY PROBLEM with these Ford cars! I suspect that this problem is more widespread than just my family, more Ford Edge vehicles with this ABS problem. A Ford Edge ABS RECALL might be required to help Ford customers be safe! The ABS system is completely shot. I have replaced the entire brake system besides the ABS. There is a recall on the ABS System for other 2012 Ford Edges, but for some reason my vehicle isn’t included. Please consider including my car in the recall as this is a serious safety issue. I cannot even drive the car, because i am not able to brake properly.

Regarding the three Ford vehicles in my possession, each with approximately 80,000 miles, I've observed consistent issues with the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module. Despite my inquiry with a Ford dealership, no recall has been issued for these vehicles, and the ABS module is reportedly unavailable for repair. Given the apparent prevalence of this issue, I am concerned about the potential impact on vehicle performance during critical events. BRAKE PEDAL HITTING THE FLOOR : ISSUE COMES AND GOES VERY RARELY . FIRST COMPLAIN REPORTED ON APRIL 2014: BRAKE BOOSTER REPLACED ON WARRANTY. LAST COMPLAIN REPORTED TO ORIGINAL CAR DEALER: COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE ISSUE. IN BETWEEN THESE TWO DATES, BRAKE BOOSTER HAS BEEN REPLACED RECENTLY. ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE FAILURE, NO ABS LIGHT YET. FORD HONORED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON BRAKE POWER BOOSTER IN 2020. PERFORMING A FEW REPEATED SUDDEN STOPS AT CERTAIN SPEED GETS THE BRAKES TO HOW IT SHOULD BE. NO ACCIDENT EVER INVOLVED.

The backup camera is faulty. Sometimes you will start the car and it works but most of the time it is just a black screen. I can go out and make several stops and sometimes it will flash on and then go right off. I know there have been several recalls about this but this model so far hasn't been included. It is a widespread problem as I have another Ford vehicle that does the same thing and it is a safety issue.

The issue is my 2012 Ford Edge passenger seat door ajar sensor. The car alarm has been going off all day and in the middle of the night and now the car battery is dead, I've researched this an their are many other consumers that have been having the same issue with 2011 & 2012 Ford Edge vehicles. Why hasn't there been a recall from Ford regarding this? I have not taken this in to be inspected. I understand that the cost for the replacement sensor unit and labor can be $400 - $600. I will try to disconnect the sensor myself and avoid this cost. Now it will be a safety issue. Please encourage Ford to issue a recall on this. Thank you

The door latch system is malfunctioning. The passenger side door will be closed but the light comes on that the door is open or ajar. This is a safety concern. I believe the door to be closed all the way but what if it's not and it opens while driving. I'm not sure if it is just a sensor or the door latch system is not working correctly.

My door ajar warning stays on after all the doors are shut. If I shut my driver door repeatedly, eventually it will turn off.

Senors keep going on and off sometimes I will be driving it will flash on then go off then sometime it will be when I start the car but when I turn the car off and come back to the car and start it again it goes off ABS, ABS Off, and Break Light and warning pops up check break system I have had them check and confirmed it is a sensor issue

THIS COMPLAINT IS REGARDING THE VISTA PANORAMA SUNROOF. WHILE TRYING TO CLOSE MY SUNROOF, I STARTED HEARING LOUD POPPING SOUNDS. I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR TO A MECHANIC TO GET THE SUNROOF CLOSED. I WAS LATER INFORMED THAT THE CLIPS ON THE GUIDES WERE BOTH BROKEN. NEEDLESS TO SAY, FORD IS MANUFACTURING CHEAP TRACKS THAT ARE HELD TOGETHER WITH PLASTIC CLIPS DESIGNED TO MOVE VERY HEAVY GLASS BACK AND FORTH. THIS IS UNTENABLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED NUMEROUS OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE WITH VERY LITTLE AFFORDABLE RESOLUTIONS.

2012 Ford Edge -The passenger door will shut but the alarm that came with the car says that the door is not shut. The alarm will not work when the car detects the door is not shut, so the interior lights will not turn off. Will this affect my battery? When I drive with the sensor on the dashboard states the door is not closed and the interior light will not shut off which becomes a distraction at night. When driving the car, the locks will not work because the dashboard senses the door is not closed. This is a family car with a child still in a car seat. Anyone can jump in my car? There a lot of blogs I found with the same situation, so Ford must know that the problem exists. The door has not been damaged. This is not part of wear and tear because a door is something that need to open and close. The situation is getting worse and worse that when im driving the dashboard announces the closed door is now open and unlocks all my doors and turns on my interior lights on.

I HAVE TO OPEN AND SHUT THE DOOR MULTIPLE TIMES VERY HARD FOR IT TO GO AWAY. MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE, AND APPARENTLY IT PROGRESSIVELY GETS WORSE UNTIL THEY HAVE CONSTANT BEEPING WARNING, DOME LIGHT ON WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, DOORS THAT WON'T LOCK WHILE DRIVING AND THE CONSTANT RISK OF A DEAD BATTERY AFTER RETURNING TO THEIR PARKED VEHICLE. I'VE ALREADY HAD TO BUY A NEW BATTERY DUE TO THE DOME LIGHT STAYING ON AFTER PARKING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND DESERVES A RECALL. THE CURRENT FIX APPARENTLY REQUIRES REPLACING THE ENTIRE LATCH FOR AROUND $400, EVERY TWO YEARS ON AVERAGE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was unable to restart and was towed to a tow lot. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 27,425. The VIN was invalid.

I've had the car for a year and it suddenly loses power during acceleration and Is throwing the P0299 turbocharger code. I was getting on the interstate when the car did this the 1st and 2nd times. It was a very busy time of day and my car suddenly decellerated in front of an 18 wheeler with my kids in the car. NO MATTER how hard I hit the gas it would not go and I almost got ran over by a tractor trailer. I had to slam on brakes and squeeze between the on ramp and a bridge guardrail to not be hit.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a diagnostic was performed, and the contact was informed that the brake booster, hydraulic cylinder, and master cylinder needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. WHEN YOU START YOUR CAR. A MESSAGE COMES ON THAT DOORS ARE NOT CLOSED. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE THE CAR. YOU CAN OPEN AND SHUT YOUR DOORS. ALL THE TIME. THE CAR ALSO RANDOMLY HONKS THE HORN AND THE LIGHTS ALL FLASH. WE HAVE CHANGED THE BATTERIES IN THE REMOTES AND IT STILL HAPPENS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR WHILE.

Shift to park message, not showing it is in park. Can only crank the car if you turn the key halfway and then shift to neutral to crank it. Once you put it back in park and set the emergency brake you can only crank it by repeating the process of Neutral cranking. Car will roll away without brake set. Driving is a concern as I am afraid it might pop into another gear. My year 2012 is not in the recall that effects 2015-2018 models but it's the exact same issue.

The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the gear selector lever to be replaced a second time. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to another local dealer, Parkway Ford (311 Commercial Pkwy, Dover, OH 44622: (330) 343-6681) where the vehicle was diagnosed with needing the gear selector lever to be replaced again. TAKATA RECALL. MY VEHICLE IS EXPERINCEING THE SAME THING LISTED IN RECALL #14V393000 FOR THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL OF MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER MY VIN DOES NOT MEET THE RECALL. THE HALFSHAFT AND LINKSHAFT BECOME DISENGAGED WHILE DRIVING AND POWER IS NO LONGER BE TRANSMITTED TO THE WHEELS. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THIS ACCURED FORCING ME TO PULL OF. ONCE IN PARK THE VEHICLE SHAKES. TURN THE ENGINE OFF. WAIT A MINUTE OR TWO AND START IT BACK UP AND IT RUNS FINE. THIS HAS ACCURED 6 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR.

At a speed of about 60 mph I engaged the cruise control. About 10 seconds later car went into limp mode. Had to acceleration. Was able to pull off to side of road and then vehicle stalled. Put car in park waiting a few seconds and was able to start car again and continue driving with no further problems. This same problem occurred about a month earlier. That event was the same except it happened just after backing out of the driveway and starting up the road at a speed of about 5mph. Was able to restart and continue trip without any problems. Researched the problem and read comments from other people stating the same problem. Never happened before these two incidents

WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS FILLED, THE ODOR OF GASOLINE IS VERY STRONG INSIDE THE VEHICLE TO THE POINT THAT IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE CAR MUST BE VENTED TO BE ABLE TO BREATHE. I WAS HAVING AN ENGINE LIGHT COME ON INTERMITTENTLY SOMETIMES EVEN JUST AFTER MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN FOR WARRANTY WORK. IT WOULD SOMETIMES EVEN MAKE A STALLING ENGINE SOUND WHEN I FILLED THE TANK WITH GAS. WITH THE LIGHT ON ONE OF THESE OCCASIONS I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE AND WAS TOLD THAT TWO OF THE 02 SENSORS WERE BAD. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE VEHICLE I'M TO FIND OUT THAT A CANNISTER PURGE VALVE HAD GONE BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. A WEEK LATER I GET A RECALL ON MY 2ND VEHICLE, A FORD FOCUS 2014 FOR THE CPV.

The failure caused the battery to be drained. The contact stated that the battery was replaced three times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

This is my 20 year old daughter's car. She attends college in another state. Recently, the door ajar light comes on and will not go off. This prevents her from locking her doors, all of them! Not while driving, and not when parked. The closes all doors and tries to lock the car, and the passenger side "door ajar" light remains on, even though the door is closed and shut tight. The repair to this issue is replacing the entire door latch mechanism and costs over $500 at the dealer. I would do it myself, but the Ford door assembly is very complicated and must be done in a precise manner. Right now, the car is parked as my daughter is on a summer trip. The interior lights are always on, so the battery has been drained and is now dead. It will not take a charge. So, I need a new battery before I can even work on the door. I believe this is a safety issue because the doors cannot be locked. The security alarm cannot be activated, and most importantly, my daughter cannot lock herself safely inside if she was being pursued by an attacker. Criminals could also ransack her belongings from the unlocked vehicle and homeless vagrants could sneak inside as well. Ford needs to recall all these Ford Edge's with this problem. I'm told it's the 3rd most popular complaint on the forums.

The first incident occurred in GA on vacation in June. While my spouse was driving, he said the brakes seemed squishy and were not right. When he braked to stop the car to get gas, his foot went almost to the floor. After getting gas, I drove and they did not seem right. The second incident happened the beginning of August and I was coming down a relatively steep hill. I went to brake and my foot went all the way to the floor and did not completely stop. I took the car to my mechanic and he wasn't sure of the problem, and to another mechanic. The 2nd thought it was the brake booster. I then took it to the Ford dealership where I bought it last August and had them look at it. They said it is the ABS module and that I am #829 on the list of 1300 people that need that part, that Ford has no idea when it will be available. The third incident was last Sat, [XXX] and I had No Brakes At All, so I had to take my husband's car to work. In All the incidents, I was at risk, as well as my family and the people driving in front & back of me. I have also had issues of the AC coming in for NO Reason, and after I turn it down, it turns itself back on at full blast. This car is NOT SAFE. 2 months after I purchased this vehicle in 2021, I noticed soft brakes, the vehicle displayed low oil pressure it locked up and turned off. Proper oil was added and the brakes appeared normal afterwards. Around mid August 2022, I noticed that when I put pressure on brakes to slow the vehicle, the peddle would sink slowly to the floor and hard to slow vehicle down. So brakes were inspected and the rear brake pads were worn all the way down and the front brakes were like new.. All four brake pads were replaced with new pads. Well this did not correct the problem. I would still hear a swoosh from the brake peddle when releasing and brakes continued to slowly sink to floor.. So the master cylinder and the vacuum booster were replaced, brake lines were bled over 10 times and problem was still not corrected. No warning lights ever reflected on the vehicle. Now the vehicle will mot start and now i have to tow to repair shop. When I started looking up issues regarding my 2012 Ford Edge SEL, tan color. I noticed this has been a reoccurring issue with this make/model. Also, no repair/recall stickers were attached to the vehicle to address this issue. I purchased this vehicle August 2021 from a dealer in Wilmington, NC.

THE DOOR LATCH IS FAULTY. IT IS TELLING ME THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR WHEN IT IS CLOSED. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON WHICH WILL CAUSE THE BATTERY TO DIE.

DOOR SENSOR ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN CONTINUING SINCE EARLY 2015, NOT LONG AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. CURRENTLY MY "DOOR AJAR" INDICATOR APPEARS EVEN THOUGH MY DOOR IS CLOSED, EVEN AFTER BEING SLAMMED SHUT. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR ALONG WITH PASSENGER SIDE DOOR CONTINUE TO SAY OPEN AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN CLOSED AND I AM DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING I CANNOT MANUALLY LOCK THE DOOR, THEY JUST AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCK ON ITS OWN. THIS DOES NOT MAKE ME FEEL SAFE, ESPECIALLY DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN. HIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED ME TO REPLACE MY BATTERY SOONER THAN NEEDED BECAUSE THE DOME LIGHTS STAY ON FOR A LONG TIME, ALSO RANDOMLY TURN ON IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. I ALSO CANNOT LOCK MY DOORS BECAUSE THAN THE ALARM GOES OFF RANDOMLY THINKING THE DOOR HAS BEEN OPENED. SO WETHER DRIVING OR PARKED, THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT NIGHT, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT APPEARED, INDICATING I SHOULD SHIFT THE CAR TO PARK. SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS CAME ON AND AN ALARM STARTED CHIMING. MY VISION WAS IMPAIRED BY THE BRIGHT INTERIOR LIGHTS. AFTER NAVIGATING THROUGH TRAFFIC I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY, SHIFTED THE CAR TO PARK , GOT OUT AND CHECKED DOORS AND TAILGATE BUT ALL WERE SECURE. THIS ISSUE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY UNTIL I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE UNDER WARRANTY. I LODGED MY COMPLAINT AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE FIXED. THE CONDITION APPEARED TO BE CORRECTED UNTIL THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM , MUCH TO MY DISMAY I FOUND OUT THAT ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX HAD BEEN APPLIED, THE DEFECTIVE DOOR LATCH HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED, AND NOW TO FIX THE DOOR LATCH SWITCH WAS VERY EXPENSIVE. DISCONTENT, I RETURNED HOME AND RESEARCHED AND FOUND MY PROBLEM A POPULAR TOPIC. I STARTED A COMPLAINT WITH FORDS REGIONAL OFFICE AND WITH NHTSA BUT DIDN'T MAIL IT IN. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN MORE PERSISTENT AND I WON'T PUT FAMILY IN THE CAR. IT HAS ALSO LEFT ME STRANDED WITH A DEAD BATTERY A NUMBER OF TIMES AS THIS SWITCH APPARENTLY CONTROLS TIME DELAYED COURTESY LIGHTS TO LET YOU EXIT THE CAR SAFELY AT NIGHT. THE PROBLEM HERE IS THEY DON'T SHUT OFF, DRAINING THE BATTERY. WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS LODGED REGARDING THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION, AND QUICK FIX ALBEIT EXPENSIVE PART, I FIGURED THIS TO BE A PRIORITY RECALL. THIS ISSUE OCCURS AT ANY GIVEN TIME, STATIONARY, CITY STREETS, AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.

THE DRIVER'S DOOR APPEARS TO CLOSE PROPERLY HOWEVER A WARNING LIGHT STATING THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR COMES ON. I OPEN AND CLOSE THE 2 OR 3 TIMES WITH A HARD SLAM AND THE LIGHT GOES OUT. THE CAR DOORS WILL NOT LOCK IF THIS WARNING LIGHT IS ON. I AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED AT THE FORD DEALER AT A COST OF NEARLY $400. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM ON THE EDGE. THE CAR HAS APPROX 42,000 MILES.

I HAVE HAD MY POWER STEERING FAIL 4 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR. MOST RECENTLY, I HAD THE WHOLE SYSTEM REPLACED WHILE OUT OF STATE ON VACATION. THE VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

I HAVE A 2012 FORD EDGE AND WHEN THE WEATHER STARTED TO GET REALLY COLD (WE LIVE IN NORTH CENTRAL MN) I BEGAN TO HEAR A WHINING NOISE WHEN I WOULD FIRST START MY VEHICLE. AS SOON AS IT WOULD WARM UP, THE NOISE WOULD STOP. THIS WENT ON FOR A ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE I ASKED MY HUSBAND ABOUT IT. BY THAT TIME WE WERE HAVING BELOW ZERO WEATHER. HE THOUGHT IT WAS JUST DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER AND I ALWAYS MADE SURE THAT I LET THE VEHICLE WARM UP REALLY GOOD. A FEW WEEKS LATER HE CHECKED THE POWER STEERING FLUID AND IT WAS A LITTLE BIT LOW. WE ADDED FLUID AND IT WAS FINE FOR A FEW WEEKS. THEN THE NOISE STARTED AGAIN AND, WHEN HE LOOKED, THE LEVEL WAS BELOW MINIMUM. HE COULDN'T FIND A LEAK ANYWHERE, THOUGH. WE STARTED TO SMELL THE FLUID WHEN IT WOULD DRIP ON TO THE EXHAUST. WE HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND THE HOSE IS LEAKING. WE HAD THEM ORDER THE HOSE (WHICH WAS $200!!) AND IT JUST CAME TODAY BUT I HAVEN'T HAD IT INSTALLED YET. I CALLED THE DEALER, WHICH IS 2 HOURS AWAY, AND LEFT A MESSAGE. I WANT TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANY KIND OF A RECALL ON THIS. EARLIER THIS MONTH (AUGUST 2016) THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINED LIT ON MY 2012 FORD EDGE. BROUGHT TO STEVENS FORD IN MILFORD CT. TOLD IT THAT THE SENSOR WIRE/DEVICE WAS "FRAYED" AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. REPAIR PERSON SAID THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY THE SEAT MOVING BACK/FORTH. WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. COST TO FIX WAS OVER $400. MY ISSUE IS THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS BARELY USED. THE SENSOR/WIRE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN "FRAYED" BY MINIMAL USE. WAS TOLD IF I DIDN'T FIX THAT THE AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY. THERE IS A FLAW IN THEIR DESIGN IF THIS SENSOR IS IN AN AREA WHERE IT CAN BE DAMAGED EASILY.

WHILE TRAVELING IN MEXICO, I HIT A BLACK STEER STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AT NIGHT. IT WAS A FULL FRONTAL COLLISION. IT WRAPPED ITSELF AROUND THE COMPLETE FRONT AND BOTH SIDES OF MY VEHICLE BEFORE COMING UP ON THE HOOD. IT ALSO BROKE THE WINDSHIELD. NEITHER THE AIRBAGS NOR THE SIDE CURTAINS DEPLOYED. I HAD IT SENT TO A FORD DEALER, PER THE REQUEST OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY. THEY REPORTED THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS WORKING JUST FINE. THAT'S VERY PECULIAR. THE FACT REMAINS THAT IN A FULL FRONTAL COLLISION THE AIRBAGS DID NOT WORK AND I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE TRAVELING IN THAT VEHICLE. The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated while starting the vehicle after refueling, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle jerked. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and stalled while in traffic. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and exited the highway. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the fuel line pulse damper metal housing was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel line needed to be replaced with one that did not have a damper. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 14V002000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) or 12V438000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) as the VIN was not included. The manufacturer advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 105,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle started shaking and depressing with the accelerator pedal being depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as designed. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to exit the highway and continued driving to her destination. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that both front axles, the exhaust pipe, and the fuel injector needed to be replaced. Additionally, there was a leak in the evaporative emission control system (EVAP). The vehicle was repaired, except for the evaporative emission control system (EVAP). The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V438000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 179,000.

ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON I NOTICED A FUEL SMELL IN MY CAR AS I DROVE IT TO THE STORE. THE SMELL OF GAS WAS ESPECIALLY STRONG WHEN I HAD THE HEATER ON. UPON ARRIVING HOME I OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED A MIST COMING FROM BEHIND THE ENGINE NEAR THE PLACEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY IDENTIFIED IT AS A CRACKED FUEL LINE DAMPER. FUEL WAS LEAKING ON TO THE ENGINE AND INTO THE CABIN. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND NOTICED THAT THE 2012 EDGE HAD BEEN RECALLED PREVIOUSLY FOR THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN I BROUGHT THIS UP TO THE SERVICE TEAM MEMBER, THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT MY EDGE WAS MANUFACTURED AFTER THE DATES COVERED BY THE RECALL. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO EXPLAINED THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTIONED WICH CAUSE IT TO MELT/SEIZE THE COILS IN 3 IF THE CYLINDERS. I HAVE A POWER TRAIN WARRANTY BUT WAS TOLD NONE OF IT WOULD BE COVERED? WHEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE. AFTER PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC ON 1/15/18, GOING ABOUT 50 MPH, MY 2012 FORD EDGE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT APPEARED. I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR DOWN AND RESTART IT SEVERAL TIMES TO SLOWLY GET IT OUT OF TRAFFIC - EACH TIME THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT APPEARED AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. FINALLY, AFTER GETTING OUT OF TRAFFIC I SHUT IT DOWN AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES, RESTARTED IT AND THIS TIME THE AWD WARNING LIGHT APPEARED BUT MY CAR IS NOT AN AWD VEHICLE. THEN THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED AGAIN. HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY COMPUTER MEMORY RECORD OF WHAT HAPPENED AND HAD THEIR TECHNICIAN DRIVE IT HOME TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM DUPLICATED ITSELF. IT DID NOT. AFTER 3 DAYS AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND I PICKED IT UP AND DROVE IT HOME. I SHOULD ADD THAT MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 26,000 MILES ON IT. IN READING THESE COMPLAINTS MINE IS NOT THE ONLY COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND FORD NEEDS TO FIGURE OUT AND REPAIR THOSE VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE!

THE "DOOR AJAR" WARNING LIGHT WILL NOT TURN OFF WHEN THE DRIVER AND REAR LEFT PASSENGER DOORS ARE CLOSED. THE DOORS ARE CLOSED FIRMLY, BUT THE WARNING LIGHT STILL SHOWS THE DOORS TO BE OPEN. THE DOORS ARE CLOSED AND LOCKED, BUT THE CAR REGISTERS THEM AS OPEN, AND THUS KEEPS THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT ON ALONG WITH THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS OF THE CAR. Had diagnosis test done and did process of elimination. Said needed ignition coils/ spark plugs did all that plus fuel injector and oxygen sensor put in bran new and check engine still blinking and car stutters. Only 10miles per gallon on car. You can smell fumes inside car severally. Looked on website and said this car had recall on fuel system/ gasoline. So am I able to take in to manufacture and they fix free cuz of seriously dangerous defect. Car could egnite.

I believe the sunroof package to be defective as well as the electric system that is connected to the systems. I have brought the issue up with the dealership and they did not perform a proper diagnostic on the part to report any issues. I believe this is a safety issue as the windows and back gate open without prompt. I don't use the sunroof because it hasn't opened since a short time after my purchase. When the sunroof opened I tried to close it and the element that closes it popped above my head and threw the panoramic glass off the track. I took the vehicle in to point of purchase and they did not perform a proper diagnostic on it to tell me whether it was safe to close or not. So if this could be resolved I would appreciate it. When I went online to trouble shoot a solution or cause I found similar cases of issue with the panoramic sunroof components. Thank you.

MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR LIGHT WOULD STAY ON AFTER CLOSING MY DOOR, WHETHER PARKED OR IN MOTION. I WOULD HAVE TO CLOSE IT 5-10, SOMETIMES MORE TIMES, TO GET THE LIGHT TO GO OFF. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED FROM A HONDA DEALER, AND THE SALESMAN TOLD ME IT WAS LIKELY JUST A SENSOR ISSUE, SO I IGNORED IT FOR A MONTH OR SO BEFORE TAKING IT IN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHEN I THOUGHT I COULD AFFORD TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THEY DID DIAGNOSTICS ON IT AND TOLD ME IT WASN'T JUST THE SENSOR, THAT THE DOOR WAS ACTUALLY OPEN BECAUSE THE LATCH WASN'T CLOSING PROPERLY. THEY TOLD ME IF I GOT IN A WRECK MY DOOR COULD FLY OPEN, SO I LET THEM REPAIR IT. THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE LOCK ASSEMBLY ON THE DRIVER SIDE. the throttle body has failed, suspected by me doing research going back 11 years of the Ford Edge almost killing people while driving it. confirmed by my local ford dealership that i do infact need a new throttle body and gaskets. it goes into limp mode, the car loses power and stops working in the middle of driving 50 mph. No check engine light remains on, only a wrench icon appears until you restart the car, then the car works again for another 30 miles or until it wants to cause a major accident again. This is a HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. My car will jolt down to 10 mph, as if I slammed the brakes, while driving, not even having my foot on the gas, down the HIGHWAY where the speed limit it 55. THIS IS A KILLING MACHINE. I only have moments to pull over to the median or somewhere before I cause a major accident. They have recalled the 2009 through 2013 ford fusion and escape, as well as the milan and mariner because of the same issue. I have read hundreds of accounts online of the same thing happening in Edges... how can you allow this to go unchecked.

NOW A SECOND DOOR AJAR LIGHT WON'T GO OFF....DOORS DO NOT LOCK WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO STEP UP ON THESE ISSUES AND DO WHAT'S RIGHT. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT SPECIFIC VEHICLES WERE RECALLED FOR THESE ISSUES WHEN MANY OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING, AND PAYING FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ON THE SAME YEAR VEHICLE. SOMETHING SMELLS ABOUT THIS. I GET READY TO START MY DAY AS USUAL I GO AND START MY VEHICLE (STATIONARY) TO WARM IT UP, AS I GOT READY TO SET THE TEMPERATURE IN THE SUV I NOTICED THE BOTTOM TOUCH PANEL DID NOT LIGHT UP. SO I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE HEAT THAT WAS BLOWING AND IT DIDNT TURN OFF, I TRIED AND AGAIN AND NOTHING. ITS TO HOT IN TEXAS WITH LITTLE CHILDREN TO HAVE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THAT EFFECT THE AIR CONDITIONING. I PUSHED OTHER BUTTONS TO SEE IF ANYTHING WORKED AND STILL NOTHING, THE HAZARD LIGHTS WILL NOT FUNCTION NOR WILL THE ELECTRIC WINDOWS. MY FAMILY AND I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO MY DESTINATION AFTERWARDS I HAD THE FUSES TESTED THEY ARE GOOD, BUT WAS TOLD IT IS FRONT INTERFACE CONTROL MODULE. MY FORD EDGE,2012, HAD A "DOOR AJAR" WARNING AND IT REQUIRED SLAMMING THE DOOR VERY HARD TO GET THE WARNING REMOVED. I HAD THE DOOR LATCH REPLACED AT A COST OF 325 DOLLARS. OTHER FORD PRODUCTS HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THESE PROBLEMS AND ARE UNDER A RECALL. THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE 2012 FORD EDGE USES THE EXACT SAME DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AS USED IN THE ESCAPE AND FUSION WHICH WERE BOTH INCLUDED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM. FORD SHOULD INCLUDE ALL MODELS THAT USED THIS PART IN ITS EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM OR BETTER YET ISSUE A RECALL. IN MY OPINION IT'S DANGEROUS PULLING OUT INTO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC ONLY TO LOSE POWER. I WAS TAKING MY 91 YEAR OLD FATHER TO THE DOCTOR WHEN I LOST ALL POWER DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT WAS NOT REACTING WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO STEER TO THE SIDE. TURNED THE CAR OFF, RESTARTED AND ALL SEEMED TO DO WELL. TOOK TO THE SHOP. WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR. I HAD THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN WITH MY FORD FUSION. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO LOSE ALL POWER DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. It repeatedly does this, then it will be okay for some time before it does again. I’ve. Had it at Ford garage, they say can’t duplicate or find anything on the scanner. The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, or while the vehicle was parked, the contact observed an abnormal gasoline odor in the vehicle. Additionally, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power while attempting to accelerate, with the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, a "Turbo Boost" message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who discovered a fuel leak. The contact was informed that either the fuel tank or fuel lines needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,260.

FORD HAS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, WHICH THEY REFER IT TO "CHECK ENGINE SOON" THAT COMES ON. THERE IS A DEFECT WITH FORD'S CAPLESS FUEL TANK. SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE CAUSES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO LIGHT UP NON-STOP! I AM CONCERNED THAT DOWN THE LINE, THERE WILL BE NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THE CAPLESS SYSTEMS. IT DOES NOT APPEAR DURABLE AND WILL COST HUNDREDS OUT OF THE POCKET OF OWNERS WHOSE WARRANTY WILL EXPIRE AFTER 2-3 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!! FROM JUNE 2018 TO JUNE 2019 I HAVE INVESTED OVER $4000 IN PRIMARILY THE BRAKING SYTEM OF MY CAR. I CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES WHEN AFTER FILLING MY GAS TANK THE CAR HESITATES IN STARTING. I HAVE REPLACED EVERYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE BREAKING SYSTEM FROM BRAKE PADS TO HCU SYSTEM TO THE ABS SYSTEM. EVEN THE NEW PARTS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE FAULTY.

My engine stopped as I was driving approximately 60 mph on the highway. Weather clear, dry, 90 degrees. I coasted to the side of the road. Engine immediately started. I drove a short distance and the vehicle stalled again. It again started and I drove a short distance to pull into a safe location. As I was waiting for oncoming traffic so I could turn left into a driveway the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. It again started and I was able to park in a safe location. The vehicle started and operated. I then drove the vehicle to a auto shop to check for codes. No codes. Checked battery and alternator which were fine. New gas in gas tank, clean air filter. See on internet site that these vehicle are prone to this and are dangerous. Drove another 40 miles back home with no problems.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed and extended to the floorboard. The vehicle failed to immediately stop, nearly causing a rear-end collision with another vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to an independent dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. Additionally, while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would not properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal, with the check engine warning light and fuel filler inlet message illuminated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and the local dealers were notified but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 136,000.

I WAS OUT RUNNING ERRANDS AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. LEFT A STORE TO PICK UP MY DAUGHTER FROM PRACTICE AND HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKES TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. AFTER ONE AND A HALF MONTHS OF DRIVING MY NEWLY PURCHASED 2012 FORD EDGE SEL, THE BRAKES WERE HARD AND I LITERALLY HAD TO STRAIN MY FOOT AND LEGS TO THE PULP AND GIVE IT ALL THE PRESSURE I COULD TO GET IT TO STOP AND TO AVOID HITTING SOMETHING OR RUNNING INTO SOMEONE. IT WAS THE MOST HORRIBLE AND STRESSFUL EXPERIENCE I EVER HAD DRIVING AND ESPECIALLY SINCE THE CAR HAD BEEN JUST PURCHASED LESS THAN TWO MONTHS WHEN THIS STARTED HAPPENING. MY 14 MONTH OLD, 2012 FORD EDGE, HAS HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES, SOME VERY SERIOUS! FROM THE BEGINNING, I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE SYNC SYSTEM, THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM, AND CONTROLLING THE TEMPERATURE. THEY HAVE HAD TO "UPDATE" MY SYNC SYSTEM MORE THAN ONCE. I FREQUENTLY GET A "NO KEY DETECTED" MESSAGE WHEN DRIVING. (PUSH START SYSTEM) THE FIRST TIME THAT HAPPENED I PULLED OFF THE ROAD THINKING IT WOULD STOP RUNNING, AND DID $1400.00 IN DAMAGE TO THE CAR. (COVERAGE WAS DENIED BY THE WHEEL AND TIRE PROTECTION PLAN.) LATER WAS TOLD THE CAR WOULD NOT HAVE STOPPED EVEN IF IT DIDN'T RECOGNIZE THAT THE KEY FOB WAS IN IT. (A CAR-JACKERS DREAM!) I HAD A HOLE IN MY BRAKE BOOSTER CAUSING ME TO NOT HAVE THE BENEFIT OF POWER BRAKES. FOUND THIS OUT WHEN I STEPPED ON MY BRAKES AND WASN'T STOPPING. The contact restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure, and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. There was no warning stated in the dash, but I went to drive my car one day and the brakes were sunk to the floor. I drove it around carefully for a little bit and realized the brake pedal built pressure if it was constantly being pressed, however, it would lose the pressure instantly. I got the brakes bled and replaced a brake line since I had replaced both of the rear calipers prior (no issues there and no issues with brake pads or the brakes themselves). A few weeks went by and I lost the pressure again instantly. I called the mechanic to take a look and they replaced the brake booster and master cylinder and bled the brakes. The brake lines/hoses were fine with no leaks. I picked the vehicle up and the brake pedal is still soft and mushy with no pressure building. I am scared to drive it in case I accidentally hit someone and it is currently winter (snow & ice). I have new tires but I fear the brakes will give out on me soon. I don’t think these parts are up for inspection or whether the issue is with the abs module or the HCU, but it appears to be a common issue with 2012 ford edges and other years. The time frame for this is all within 10 weeks since I wasn’t driving my vehicle for about 4 weeks.

The contact then stated that the navigation system and the rear-view camera intermittently displayed a distorted or blank screen. Additionally, the contact stated that the theft system alarm started to malfunction and was inadvertently activated. As a result, the battery failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the open-door sensor circuit failed, and the door latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number and transferred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 151,193.

TAKATA RECALL I PURCHASED MY 2012 FORD EDGE SEL APRIL 22, 2019. TODAY, MAY 31ST 2019 ON MY WAY HORNE FROM WORK THE VEHICLE LOST STEERING AND POWER. I HAD JUST PASSED A SEMI-TRUCK ON A SMALL FARM TOWN BLACK TOP ROAD AND CAME UP ON A STOP SIGN. IN THE PROCESS OF TURNING TO THE LEFT FROM THE STOP THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT OUT OF THE ROAD. I PURCHASED MY LOW MILEAGE EDGE FROM LOCAL FORD DEALER. EXPERIENCING PERIODIC ISSUE WITH CAR TRANSMISSION LAG OR JERKING WHEN ACCELERATING FROM STOP, AS AT A STOP SIGN OR PULLING OUT OF PARKING LOTS. TOOK TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE ISSUE, NO CODES. MORE RECENTLY THE BACKUP CAMERA HAS INTERMITTENTLY FAILED. NO BACKUP GUIDELINES ARE PRESENT, SOMETIMES BACKUP CAMERA IS VISIBLE, THEN GOES BLACK, OTHER TIMES DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. NOW MY BRAKES ARE GIVING ME ISSUES. THE PEDAL WILL EITHER BE VERY HARD TO PRESS, AS IN LOSING POWER BRAKING WHEN A VEHICLE DIES. THEN THE PEDAL MAY GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. DID EXPERIENCE SOMETHING SIMILAR WHILE IN FAST FOOD DRIVE THRU, FOOT ON BRAKE, THEN BRAKE LOSING PRESSURE AND PEDAL DEPRESSING TO FLOOR. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THEN THE "SERVICE ADVANCE TRACK: LIGHT CAME ON BRIEFLY. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE AND ONCE I MAKE A LIST OF ALL OF THE SERVICE BULLETINS IT'S GOING TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. LAST TIME I WENT THE IDIOT AT THE SERVICE COUNTER PUT THAT I SAID THE VEHICLE "STALLED". NEVER DID I SAY THAT HAPPENED. I SAID THERE WAS A LAG IN ACCELERATION AND THE FEELING LIKE A TRANSMISSION JERKING INTO GEAR. PIECE OF JUNK FORD, DON'T KNOW WHAT I WAS THINKING BUYING IT. AS I PULLED INTO THE PARKING DECK AT MY OFFICE (GOING LESS THAN 10 MPH), I SUDDENLY HAD LITTLE ABILITY TO STEER, NOTHING HAPPENED WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS AND THE "LOW OIL" LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AND JUST BARELY STEER CLEAR OF NEARBY VEHICLES. RESTARTED THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO BACK INTO A PARKING SPOT. DROVE IT TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY SPENT THE ENTIRE DAY TRYING TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE TO NO AVAIL. I HAD NOTICED WHAT I WOULD DESCRIBE AS VIBRATIONS IN THE STEERING WHEEL PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT (IT'S AN APPROXIMATELY 25 MINUTE DRIVE FROM MY HOUSE TO THE OFFICE IN STOP/GO TRAFFIC WITH THE LAST SEVERAL MILES ON A BUSY INTERSTATE WITH MY OFFICE JUST OFF THE EXIT) BUT AT THE TIME I CHALKED IT UP TO THE CONSTRUCTION ON THE HIGHWAY AND VARYING LEVELS OF ASPHALT. WHILE DRIVING AT LESS THAN THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT, WE HEARD AN EXPLOSION FROM ON TOP OF THE VEHICLE. SAW GLASS PIECES SLIDING OFF ROOF. UPON VISUAL INSPECTION WE SAW THE VISTA SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. THE GLASS EXPLODED ALONG THE PERIMETER OF THE RETRACTABLE SUNROOF. THE CENTER OF THE GLASS WAS STILL INTACT AND THERE WAS NO VISIBLE SIGN OF IMPACT. NOTHING HIT THE GLASS. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AFTER TURNING ONTO A STATE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT TOOK 1-2 MINUTES TO ACCELERATE TO 30 MPH AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REACH SPEEDS ABOVE 30 MPH. THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS I WAS IN TRAFFIC GOING 60-70 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND THE PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED UNTIL THE CONDITION REAPPEARED IN AUGUST OF 2014. THE CONDITIONS WERE SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES AS THE FIRST FAILURE. AS I WAS PULLING INTO TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND TOOK SEVERAL MINUTES TO GET TO 30-35 MPH. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REACH SPEEDS ABOVE 30-35 MPH AND SEVERAL CARS HAD TO SWERVE INTO THE OTHER LANES TO AVOID MY VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ONCE AGAIN THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN THE SPEEDS OF 25MPH AND 80MPH ON EUROPEAN ROADS/HIGHWAYS THE CAR LOSES ABILITY TO ACCELERATE REGARDLESS OF PRESSURE ON GAS PEDAL. I HAD TO PULL OVER, LUCKILY AVOIDING CARS AND POSSIBLE COLLISIONS. CAR DISPLAYED YELLOW WRENCH AND "AWD OFF" ON LEFT SIDE DISPLAY. ONCE IN SAFE AREA I TURNED OFF THE CAR, WAITED FOR A FEW MINUTES AND TURNED IT BACK ON WITHOUT IMMEDIATE INCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 7 TIMES WITHIN A WEEK, HOWEVER, AFTER CONTACTING FORD SERVICE STATESIDE I WAS TOLD TO GO TO AN ITALIAN FORD DEALERSHIP. HOWEVER, I STOPPED AT TWO FORD SERVICE CENTERS LOCATED IN VICENZA, ITALY AND THE MECHANICS WILL NOT TOUCH MY CAR DUE TO THE MODEL NOT BEING SOLD ANYWHERE IN EUROPE. IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES (11 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF). THE MOST RECENT TIME IN HEAVY, SLOW-MOVING CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC. CAR LOSES ALL POWER WITHOUT WARNING. LOSS OF POWER STEERING, VERY TIGHT BRAKES, NO ACCELERATION POSSIBLE AND A LOW OIL WARNING. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART, THIS SOMETIMES WORKS, OTHER TIMES I HAVE NEEDED THE CAR TOWED BECAUSE IT DID NOT RESTART. THIS IS A COMPANY CAR AND IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES, AND ONLY THIS LAST WEEK WAS ANYTHING EVER FOUND TO BE WRONG. AFTER STALLING A MONTH AGO, THIS PAST WEEK A DATA RECORDER WAS ATTACHED AND A DEFECTIVE OXYGEN SENSOR WAS FOUND IN THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM WHEN THE CAR STALLED FOR THE DEALERSHIP. THE OXYGEN SENSOR WAS REPLACED AND THEY TEST DROVE THE CAR. THE STALLING DID NOT OCCUR DURING THEIR FINAL TEST DRIVES. I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK A WEEK AGO, ONLY TO HAVE IT STALL THREE TIMES WITHIN 10 MILES TWO DAYS AGO. ALMOST WAS RE-ENDED BY A SEMI-TRAILER TRUCK THIS LAST TIME AS I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF SIX LANES OF TRAFFIC, AND WITH NO STEERING, WAS HELPLESS TO MOVE. HAVE STALLED OUT IN A GAS STATION, ROUNDING CORNERS IN INTERSECTIONS, AT STOP SIGNS, DRIVING DOWN MY STREET, AND NOW FOUR TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY DURING LOW SPEED TRAFFIC CONGESTION. HAVING THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AS I AM TOO AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. THERE ARE AT LEAST FOUR OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, AND IT SOUNDS LIKE VERY SIMILAR TO SYMPTOMS SEEN IN THE GM RECALLS. DRIVER: 83 YEAR OLD WOMAN... NEW AUTO: FORD EDGE 2012, NO INJURIES, VEHICLE DAMAGE APPROX $2000.00 NO PROPERTY DAMAGE..... PROBLEM: LADY STEPPED ON ACCELERATOR RATHER THAN BRAKE.... REASON: THE BRAKE PEDAL AT REST IS HIGHER THAN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AT REST. THE DRIVER IS USED TO AN OLDER (CHRYSLER 2009) VEHICLE WHICH THERE WAS NOT AN APPRECIABLE DIFFERENCE IN PEDAL HEIGHT, STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THINKING SHE WAS STEPPING ON THE BRAKE.... RESOLUTION: DISCUSSING THE INCIDENT, THE WOMAN WAS SEATED IN THE FORD EDGE AND ASKED TO SEE IF SHE FELT A DIFFERENCE IN HEIGHT OF THE BRAKE VS ACCELERATOR PEDALS. SHE DID, AND HAS SINCE PRACTICED GOING BETWEEN PEDALS, LIFTING HER FOOT TO ACCESS THE BRAKE, RATHER THAN MERELY SLIDING HER FOOT TO THE LEFT........ IT IS THIS WRITERS OPINION THAT MANY OF THE UNEXPLAINED ACCIDENTS WHERE A PERSON, ESPECIALLY WHEN AN ELDERLY PERSON IS DRIVING, HAS MISTOOK THE ACCELERATOR FOR THE BRAKE IS DUE TO THE HEIGHT OF PEDAL DIFFERENCE. ................
