Complaint Description: My 2016 Ford Edge 2.0L EcoBoost is experiencing a catastrophic engine failure due to "coolant intrusion" into the engine cylinders, a known manufacturing defect associated with the open-deck engine block design in this model year (referenced in Ford TSB 19-2346). The Failure: While driving at highway speeds (65+ MPH) on California freeways, the vehicle intermittently and suddenly enters "limp mode," drastically reducing power and acceleration without warning. This makes it impossible to merge safely or keep up with traffic, creating a life-threatening safety hazard for myself and other motorists. History & Diagnosis: The issue began in early 2025 with a Check Engine Light, which was initially misdiagnosed by a mechanic as a non-critical boost leak. The condition worsened significantly in Q4 2025, leading to dangerous stalls in power. A new independent inspection confirmed the root cause is not a boost leak, but internal coolant leakage into the engine block cylinders. This defect has caused permanent engine damage requiring a full engine replacement. The failure mode is identical to thousands of other complaints regarding the 2.0L EcoBoost engine, yet no safety recall exists to address the sudden loss of motive power.

My 2016 Ford with only 56,210 miles has developed a critical engine failure. The engine block due to a manufactuing design flaw has caused the coolant to leak into one of the cylinders. Dealership informed me I need a new motor at the cost of $7300.00. Ford will not stand behind the repair due to the age of my vehicle. It's in excellent condition other than the defective engine block.

I’ve had my car nine years. No problems with the body there’s no rust on it at all, and I love my ford. Just as I hit 100,000 miles the warning light came on the car. Come to find out it is a head gasket leak and is required to have a whole new engine. Yes the warranty is over as the car has been paid for and the warranty is expired. My complaint is that Ford knows this is an issue which I know for a fact that they know this. I cannot afford $7100 for a new engine when I just want to keep my car. I can’t even afford another car not even a beater for $1000. I’m complaining that ford knows this is a known issue, but because I am out of warranty, they will not help me. I’ve had ford’s most of my life and never had an issue like this. Very disappointing that a big company like this has a known issue but will not help repair it.

My 2016 Ford Edge has 95,000 miles on it and I have only owned it since Spring of this year. Out of nowhere, I start having an antifreeze leak, and notice it is coming from my water pump, and my mechanic says it is going to cost $2000 plus dollars to fix it. I called several other repair places and they won’t even do the repair because it’s such a big/expensive job. I have researched about the class action lawsuit about this particular problem in my exact model with the 3.5L motor. If my Dad had not of noticed the leak, it would have completely ruined my motor driving it around much longer. I am struggling financially after having serious health problems this summer, and I simply can’t afford to pay for this repair. I can’t even get approved for any more loans or credit cards, because I am in so much debt. I want to know what can be done about this, as this is way too much financial stress for me to have to deal with. At the very least, Ford should compensate me and take care of the repair costs.

Check engine light came on. A friend of mine said she saw smoke from my rear exhaust. Ran codes came back as a misfire. Spark plugs; the cold idle had become a little rough. I was driving home from work 2 1/2 weeks ago and had to stop because a warning came across my screen about hot coolant or engine in red with exclamation marks. My daughters boyfriend came out where I stopped and changed my thermostat because one of the hoses was hot and one not showing it was stuck closed. I asked him to do my spark plugs at a later date. I took the car to Byerly Ford for a coolant flush because I realized I should have used the same coolant. I asked for spark plugs. They couldn't fit it in that day because I scheduled online. He asked if I could leave it overnight. I couldn't. I was then told it may be this bigger known problem if residue under spark plugs come back. He also asked if I had been topping fluid. I told him no. Last Friday night the bf changed my plugs. Residue under # 3. He asked why my coolant looked brown. He opened the cap and saw the coolant was low but good color and the container was stained. I bought the correct coolant. I called Monday morning to see if I could get it in that day. I was sent to voicemail of who is in charge of Engine work.I left a brief message as was requested. I haven't received a call back. Tuesday night (last night) after opening the cap to checking my coolant level and the level rose a bit; my car wouldn't start. I came across TSB#22-2229 which states safety concerns. This includes my cars year, make, model and engine type. I read of a class action lawsuit and recall, but when I look up my vehicles recalls this problem is not listed. I will be calling Byerly shortly to discuss me having my car towed up there for definitive diagnosis. My 2016 Edge has 90016.5 miles. I got new brake pads very recently as well as my the works oil change (no issues)and tires are newish.I have cared for this car with the expectation of twice the milage.

STEERING
80 complaints
The power steering suddenly stopped working while I was driving. The steering became extremely stiff and difficult to control. At one point, the power assist abruptly returned, causing the steering wheel to jerk, and I nearly hit a pedestrian. It was a frightening and extremely dangerous situation. Brought the car to my mechanic multiple times, but the issue kept coming back. After 3 times, I brought the car to the ford dealership/ford mechanics and they confirmed the issue with the power steering was the fault of the rack and pinion. There was no indication of an issue prior to the power steering going out, however, as the steering goes out the power steering alert comes up on the cars dashboard, as wall as the loss of traction power.

My brake pressure dropped rapidly and the ABS and brake system warnings lit up. I added brake fluid and it leaked out from the rear passenger side brake line. Took car to dealer and they confirmed a recall on the brake lines and replaced the lines. I was responsible for the repair cost and the dealer was not able to process reimbursement until unknown date of Ford completing recall instructions.
Nov 17, 2025
The front brake hose ruptured and the brakes went out. This is consistent with the recall NHTSA Campaign # 20V469000. Ford dealer is refusing to fix it saying only the rear hose is covered. But it clearly states in the recall released on Aug 2020 it is the Front hose.
Oct 28, 2025
For the 3rd time in 9 years, my car's brakes stopped working. Submitted complaint to NHTSA back in 2020 the 2nd time it happened (the 1st time under warranty). In January 2025 left work to drive 17 miles home, only to find that the minute I drove into traffic my brakes weren't working again, straight to the floor! Drove 20 minutes to nearest dealer in traffic with hazards on while consistently pulling the emergency brake - it was an awful experience! Next day they say brake hoses were broken and fluid was EVERYWHERE! I heard one employee tell another, "What is going on with these cars and their brake hoses?" This time I had to pay over $1,000 to get it fixed. I'm warning everyone I know NOT to buy this car! My 3 experiences have been so horrid that it absolutely has made me realize that Ford is just not for me or my family!

This issue is one that was made a recall already as of recent, I had gotten my brake lines flushed and refilled and filled to correct amount and yet soon after or not to too long after I had the issue with breaking, I thought it was my brake pads but it indeed was not when I got home and the engine cooled down I checked the brake fluid reservoir and it had been almost empty, I added more and filled it again and since then it hasn’t been a problem again, but when it was a problem, I was going highway speeds when I then felt the car was off on the braking I was actually concerned if I was going to be able to stop in time especially when i was hitting the exit ramp. It no longer has been an issue since I refilled the reservoir but i don’t know if it’ll happen again or not and when and where I’ll be next time it happens. Since I now know it’s a recall and it wasn’t just a one off with just my car I am now reporting this.

POWER TRAIN

On September 1, 2025, at approximately 11:30 PM, I was driving my 2016 Ford Edge (VIN: [XXX] ) Southbound on Red Arrow Highway near [XXX] , returning home from work. Without any warning lights or prior symptoms, the vehicle suddenly lost all ability to provide power, even though the engine continued running. The transmission stopped engaging gears, and the vehicle began making grinding noises while rocking back and forth violently. The posted speed limit on this section of road is 45 MPH, and there were several vehicles traveling behind me. The sudden loss of propulsion created an immediate traffic hazard, forcing me to pull over onto a very narrow shoulder, putting myself and others at risk. After coming to a stop, the vehicle could not shift into drive or reverse and had to be towed. The failure was diagnosed by Pro Transmission in Benton Harbor, MI, which confirmed a complete transmission failure. The odometer reading at the time was approximately 154,000 miles. Ford Motor Company has acknowledged transmission issues in this model and year through a Customer Satisfaction Program, but coverage is limited to vehicles under 10 years old and below a specific mileage threshold. My vehicle qualifies by age but exceeds the mileage limit, even though the transmission failure occurred suddenly and prematurely. This vehicle has also been subject to multiple recalls, including one for engine coolant leaks and two new ones (for the backup camera and brake line leaks). These repeated failures raise broader safety and reliability concerns. The sudden transmission failure at well driving posed a serious safety hazard and nearly caused an accident. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Ford’s known transmission defect in the 2016 Ford Edge and consider whether the existing Customer Satisfaction Program should be expanded to include higher-mileage vehicles experiencing the same issue. The differential gave out last summer and I had to come out of pocket to fix. Randomly just broke and mechanic informed me that the issue was one that other ford edge owners were having and that it was on the ford or nhtsa bulletin and that there’s potential it could be a recall, I personally never reported it, now that my car has 2 other recalls I thought to give the website a check and inform about the Issues I had with my ford edge sport 2016. I believe i was put at risk because the car kept clunking and on the route home trying to keep up with highway speeds the car kept thrusting not really allowing me to match pace of traffic which in itself can be the cause of an accident. And not there was no warning indication on the dashboard prior or after it happening, didn’t know what had happened until I brought it to the mechanic.

The transfer case on my 2016 Ford Edge Titanium AWD cracked and failed at approximately 76,000 miles. For months prior, the vehicle showed warning signs including a strong burning smell inside the cabin, jerky movement while reversing, and rubbing or grinding noises during low-speed turns. I sought help multiple times, but the issue was not diagnosed despite repeated service visits. Eventually, the vehicle was taken to another repair facility where, during a test drive, the transfer case fully cracked while the mechanic was driving. According to the technician, the vehicle began smoking and was no longer safe to operate, and he immediately turned around to avoid further risk. The mechanic explicitly told me he was thankful it happened to him and not to me or my family, as it could have been much worse had it occurred on the road. The damaged part has since been replaced, but I have photographs of the failed transfer case attached to this complaint. Safety Risk: The failure made the vehicle inoperable and unsafe to drive, with serious risk of mechanical seizure or loss of control if it had occurred under different conditions (e.g., on the highway or in traffic). There were no dashboard alerts or warning lights—only progressive, difficult-to-pinpoint symptoms. Problem Prevalence and TSB History: Afterward, I discovered that transfer case failures are a known issue on Ford Edge models, and that the 2016 model year has an unusually high number of Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) related to powertrain and drivability issues. These include: TSB 18-2057, related to strong cabin odors TSB 18-2255, related to transfer case leaks and driveability problems Given the number of complaints online and the pattern reflected in these TSBs, this points to a broader reliability and safety issue with this component in this model year. Inspection History: The vehicle was evaluated multiple times for these issues and was ultimately diagnosed by a certified repair technician af

Ever since I purchased my Ford Edge the backup camera flashes off and on while I'm trying to back up and reverse. It does it every single time I try to reverse it either does not show me backing up or will show me backing up in the camera for a second and then flashes off back to the radio or flashes back to nothing. I see that they are recalls regarding the backup camera on newer vehicles. My vehicle is a 2016 Ford Edge and has been messing up for years. Why does the recall not involve the older models?

On [XXX], around 7 PM, while my 2016 Ford Edge SEL was parked in front of my apartment, I used the remote start feature to start the vehicle. After activation, the rear window shattered unexpectedly. I could hear the crackling sounds, and the rear window was falling apart. There were no external impacts or visible damage to the window prior to this incident. The vehicle was stationary, and the weather conditions were normal at the time. I went to Elder Ford of Rochester Hills. The manager informed me that they could not do anything and that I should fix the car before returning it at the end of the lease period. I mentioned that there was Technical Bulletin FSA# 17B39 for the 2016 Ford Edge in Canada, but the manager informed me that it was only valid for Canada. He advised me to keep the receipt in case Ford USA issues a similar recall. FSA# 17B39 informs that war and salt can weep through the rear wiper motor shaft grommet. The residues in the rear defroster and cause uneven heat in glass and cause it to break or shatter. I live in Michigan so this is a common situation of salt/water during winter. It is unacceptable that this issue was not addressed. I had to pay $397 to fix a problem that was not caused by me. There are numerous complaints in forums about this same issue. Sitting in my car this morning and turn the rear defroster on and out of no where my back window explodes from the inside out. Nothing was touching it or fell on it. Alot of people have this same issue but Ford won't cover it. Luckily my daughter wasn't in her rear facing carseat or I'd be one super angry mom. seriously a safety hazard, what if we were driving down the road and it exploded causing us to swerve and cause serious injuries to ourselves or someone else, who'd be liable then.

When driving and try to brake noticed that pedal distance has increased and was hard to stop the car. When stopped to review vehicle, noticed brake fluid on the right side of it. Take it to Ford dealer (CrossRoads Ford of Kernersville) and they confirmed rupture on right brake hose. Correction was to replace both front brake hoses. This failure is exactly the same as the one for safety recall "NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000". VIN for my vehicle is not part of recall however same failure happens with same risks, showing that Ford fails on tracking/providing accurate VIN numbers for this safety failure.

I went to have tires rotated and an alignment done to the 2016 Edge. The mechanic came in and told me we had a problem with the lug nuts have enlarged and they could not get them off and when they would get them off they would be damaged and not be able to put the back on the car. They had to force the tool on the lug nuts to get them off. Some of them the caps were loose when they got them off too. I had to spend 68.00 to get new lugs so i could get out of the place. They showed me and they were severely out of shape and were not safe. I am a widow who takes car of father and if we would have had problems on the road i would not of been able to change the tire. Something needs to be done about this. I checked the ford website and see manny people have complained over the same issue. So let me know what you plan to do about this dangerous issue!

Lug nuts were swollen and they informed me I would not be able to change a tire with a manual tire iron and it was unsafe as two were completely stripped. Only 70k on the vehicle. Cost over $100 to repair. Seems like a common complaint so thought it prudent to report same.

My lugs nuts have expanded on my vehicle and I cannot get my wheels off. What happens if while unable to change a flat tire on the highway due to the lug nuts stuck on the the car I get hit and killed? Ford needs to accept the responsibility on this safety defect and replace the lug nuts at no charge. This has also created an issue with me being able to have my brakes checked during my oil changes.

THERE WAS RECENTLY A RECALL FOR DOOR LATCHES FOR SEVERAL FORD MODELS AND I BELIEVE THE FORD EDGE SHOULD BE ADDED TO THAT LIST. MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR DOES NOT ALWAYS LATCH EVEN AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. AS FORD STATED, I AM WORRIED 'EVEN IF AN OWNER GETS THE DOOR TO LATCH AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS, IT IS STILL POSSIBLE THAT IT WILL BECOME UNLATCHED DURING DRIVING.' THIS HAPPENS WHILE SHUTTING THE DOOR WHILE INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. *TR

This is a follow-up to my previous NHTSA complaint (11689215.)regarding the flexplate failure on my 2016 Ford Edge (VIN: [XXX] ). This is a follow-up to my previous NHTSA complaint regarding the flexplate failure on my 2016 Ford Edge (VIN [XXX] ). Ford opened case XXX but closed it without any resolution, even though my vehicle remains undrivable. A new case CXH-XXX 1 was later created under Customer Satisfaction Program 22N12 for the same defect. My car is still at AutoNation Ford Bellevue (WA); the dealer confirms no repair authorization or contact from Ford Corporate. This defect causes a rattling noise, flexplate cracking, and sudden loss of power while driving—a clear safety hazard. Ford continues to deny repair based on mileage limits in the CSP, although this is a known safety-related defect. I am requesting NHTSA to review Ford’s handling of CSP 22N12 and require Ford to treat this as a full safety recall without mileage restrictions. Engine coolant issue, known problem for this model year of ford edge. Total engine failure at less than 60k miles. Engine light would come on and go off. Mild hesitation at start up. Went to leave one day and found vehicle would no longer start. Towed away and diagnosed with complete engine failure and coolant intrusion. Called Ford and was informed that while there was a service bulletin that directly acknowledged that these faulty engines are UNSAFE AS IS, they are not issuing any assistance to anyone who has an affected engine. This engine failure occurred apprx one week after visiting a Ford Dealership where they did routine recall work. We asked about our check engine light and because the light was not on while at ford they could not complete a check of the engine. During the other routine checks they did, they also claimed to have inspected the battery which at the time had terminal covers that were visibly overflowing with corrosion! We were not informed of this issue either. Cost to repair is about 10-14k, the value of the vehicle.

Three weeks ago my engine light came on. Took it in to Ford Services in Woodland Hills, California where they found a that there was a coolant intrusion in the engine. They proceeded to explain that this is a known issue with the type of engine due to a manufacturer defect. They were able to see that indeed this was the issue with my vehicle. But my VIN was not under the recall that is in place for other vehicles with the same engine defect. I called Ford and they said they could do nothing about it. They directed me here to make a complaint.

Issues started with check engine light with PO302 Cylinder Misfire code and rough engine starts. After having it looked at and doing a tune up, a week later there was no heat, the coolant warning light went on and temperature gauge was fluctuating while on the highway and had to pull off. Diagnosis by independent service center was the coolant leaking into the cylinder due to defective engine block casting. Researched Technical Service Bulletin 19-2208 and found this to be a common flaw. The fix is a new engine to cost more than $5,000. Vehicle has 80,000 miles. Ford offering no help due to it being out of warranty with no extended warranty.

On my Ford there is a device somewhere inside the rear bumper assembly that will automatically open or close the rear hatch as long as the user has the key fob in their possession. There have been several times where the hatch has come down almost on top of me or my wife. There is a tone that sounds when the hatch starts to move but it only sounds from the front and can be difficult to hear if parked near a street or a busy parking lot. It would be a big help if the automatic hatch movement could be turned off by the driver. I believe Ford should also have a device in-betted in the hatch that also sounds if there is a problem. I have spoken to other owners on the web who also can’t find a way to turn off the hatch.

Both rear seat belts are retracted and locked making them inoperable. This has been an issue with this car since 20,000 Miles. The rear right passenger seat belt was the first to fail and was repaired by ford dealership taking over 12 months just to get new part from Ford. Less than 10,000 miles later seat belt failed. Approximately 6,000 miles after the right rear seat belt failed the driver side rear seat belt has failed. Down to only rear center seat belt working.

I have a 2016 Ford Edge. Bought my car 2018. I Have never used the back seat driver side seat belt only a few times. When I switched my daughter out of her car seat(who was born the year I got my car) I had no need for the seat belt. Until now when I switched her to her booster seat. Now the seat belt lap strap is locked and not able to come out. There for I can't use that seat at all. And have to put her in the middle. My son is too tall to sit in the middle seat. But too young to sit in the front. I took my car into the dealership and called a different dealership and they said the seat belt may be an aftermarket. They had never seen one that has the airbags in them. So we need to order you just a normal seat belt, and it's on back order. So now I have to wait [XXX] only knows how long. Rattling noise under hood with vibration that occurs when starting vehicle. Check engine light on. Dealership states "this is a know Coolant intrusion issue in 2.0L Ecoboost engines and the whole engine needs to be replaced." Was told I could still drive it even though "it will drive rough." Articles regarding this issue state further engine damage can occur if driven and in severe cases fire. This is a safety issue caused by faulty manufacturing and should be resolved.

Dealership found, this car to have one of the defective ford eco boost motors installed, Dealership recommend new motor, at cost of $7,721.33. When purchased, I bought and paid for the ESP warranty to the cost of $3,281.00 dollars. Technicians stated, FORD is not going to cover the replacements nor any cost. The defective motors, causing the coolant to leak into the motor, subjecting us to more damages and fire. Coolant mixing with the oil. Issues would be for me, the defective motor and cooling system.

Engine malfunction due to engine coolant leaking in to #2 cylinder. Check engine warning light came on intermittently. Car didn’t pass New York State Emissions test. Car can’t be re-registered in NYS without passing Emissions test. Had car towed to Ford Service Center for diagnosis. Ford diagnosis - car engine and assembly needs to be replaced with re-designed long block engine for an estimated repair cost of $6637 plus tax. Ford is not covering engine defect that resulted in engine coolant leaking into #2 cylinder causing misfire and engine check warning light to come on. Due to this design fault, Ford should issue a recall on our 2016 Ford Edge as the car is unsafe to drive. Ford should cover the cost of the engine repair, parts and labor, due to this design fault.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Severe constant moisture condensation build up inside rear light bar and rear side lights. The moisture is inside all clear plastic covers and some of the red inner plastic (which is underneath the clear plastic cover). It is available for inspection. This is causing a safety hazard due to reduced and dim light visibility. The constant moisture causes an increased risk of break lighting shortage, failure of lighting electrical system or the lights shutting off. With the reduced rear lighting visibility and risk possibility of rear lighting failure there is an increased risk of a crash. The dealer, I purchased the vehicle used from, tried taking it apart and drying the moisture but it came right back the next day. The vehicle has been seen at an auto garage. It is unkown if there has been warning lights or signals since I recently purchased it from the dealer who had it one month prior.
Aug 18, 2025
Prior to taking delivery of this car (new, March 2017) the selling dealer replaced the tail/back-up light assembly on the tailgate because it had moisture in it. After I had the car for about 3 months the moisture came back and I called the dealer. They said it was a know problem and they would get back to me when they had the part to fix it. They never called me and I forgot about the problem. In October 2024, a neighbor told me my right back-up light was out. A couple of weeks later I went to my mechanic to have the bulb replaced. He told me that both back-up lights were out and they were non-replaceable LEDs. The entire light assembly must be replaced before I can get a state inspection sticker. The list price of the unit from Ford (only available from Ford no aftermarket part made) is $1,257.57. The car only has 48,206 miles on it. I think the LEDs shorted out because of the moisture. I called Ford, they said there was nothing they could do for me. I don't believe I am the only person to have this problem. I think Ford should do something because it is a problem they knew about since day one.

I ENTERED ON TO I-95 INTERSTATE ON RAMP. I LOOKED BACK OVER MY LEFT SHOULDER TO MERGE SAFELY ALONG WITH ACCELERATING AND THE CAR DECELERATED. MY 18 YEAR OLD SON WAS WITH ME AND HE SAID YOU NEED TO ACCELERATE. I TOLD HIM I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYED A WRENCH ICON ALONG WITH A MESSAGE SAYING SEE OWNERS MANUAL. AFTER BARLEY BEING ABLE TO PULL OVER TO SAFETY I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED IT. WE WERE ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND GET HOME. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER THEY SAID IT'S THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE A 2016 FORD EDGE WITH 6,400 MILES.

CAR STALLS OUT AND LOSES POWER AND SYMPTOMS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE FATAL. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS UNDER ACCELERATION AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED 2 REAR-END ACCIDENTS. AS I ACCELERATE THE CAR THUMPS WHEN THE ENGINE STALLS AND THEN THE CAR LOSES ALL ACCELERATION. THIS SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN HAPPENING ON THE HIGHWAY OR RAMP GETTING UP TO THE HIGHWAY. THESE ARE THE TWO PLACES IT CONSISTENTLY HAPPENS. THE CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE WITHOUT RESOLUTION. I WON'T LET MY FAMILY DRIVE THE CAR FOR FEAR OF INJURY TO HER. I'M PAYING FOR A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AND I DON'T GET THE SENSE THAT FORD IS TRYING TO FIX THE ROOT ISSUE.

While driving through a small town +-500 miles from my home the 2016 Edge lost power with no warning. I barely got to a gas station for help. No fluid leaks, no smoke, no check engine light prior to fail. Was running great until it didn’t run anymore. Police checked on me and noted my back end was sticking out into the street a bit, couldn’t move it. Had it towed, got a hotel room due to how far away from home this happened. All local mechanics were booked 2+ weeks out but this one ran diagnostics sooner and suggested engine replacement. Had it towed to closest Ford dealer for 2nd opinion. They suggested same. I had serious (couldn’t start completely dead several times, no prior warnings) and not so serious (radio, seat, door) electrical problems earlier in ownership where Ford engineer came across state to recalibrate. I don’t have documentation on this but I think it took him like 4 hours at Ford Seelye Kalamazoo but it should be in vehicle history. With these two MAJOR exceptions (and no warnings) my Edge ran great. I feel we took great care of it, has zero rust, just over 81k miles and bought it new just over 8 years ago (as of this writing). Just replaced tires, rims, brakes within this year. Filled my gas tank full just before fail. We were told it would cost $2400 to tow it back home. Called Ford road assist for suggestions and relief and they stated that since it’s over 8 years and 80,000 miles they offer nothing. Bought it new on 6/30/17 and engine failed on 6/18/25 (just under 2 weeks of 8 years) and 1,336 miles over of any responsibility on Ford Motor Company. There should be a Ford customer service case number.

No warning lights before or after the problem occurred. Driving about 25mph with traffic heard loud noise like something broke then sounded like plastic was dragging, the engine was a lot louder. I got it off traffic and pulled over. Nothing under the car. No warning or engine lights came on. Dealer told me it was a fly wheel on 6/26 and covered under warranty. Said it would take 2 weeks to repair (July 5). I kept calling for status on my car with no call back from the service manager. I finally had to complain (although I was afraid to since they had my car), and they called on 7/12 said it's not the fly wheel like they thought, they said I need a whole new transmission. They don't know what cause it but maybe something broke inside the transmission caused damage to it. $7600 cost to replace it. Not covered under warranty. We contacted another mechanic who says it's probably the torque something (arm?) that broke. I paid what to me is a lot of money for the car. It also needed a completely new engine at 44k miles which was covered under warranty. For the amount of money I paid for the car it's crazy I have to shell out $7600 more.

THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I PRESS ON THE GAS AND THE ENGINE BOGS DOWN AND THE ENGINE STARTS RUNNING VERY RUFF. I CAN ONLY DO ABOUT 2 MILES PER HOUR, WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS AS I AM IN TRAFFIC ON CITY STREETS AND ON THE HIGHWAY, WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THE ONLY THING THAT FIXES IT IS TO PULL OVER, SHUT THE CAR DOWN, AND THEN RESTART. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN DECEMBER OF 2019 AND IT IS ONLY JANUARY OF 2021.

ALL Ford Edge vehicles that have the 2.0L engine where the probability of coolant leaking into the cylinders destroying engine and transmission because of the block design should be recalled. Every day I stress over when mine will suddenly leave me stranded or cause an accident or leave me with a major repair bill regardless of how well I do maintenance! My car jerks between 2nd and 3rd or between 20 to 30 mph, and then smooths out which is making me fear that the torque converter is going out! I’m not the ONLY one living in fear of being a victim of Ford’s bad block design that is costing consumers thousands of dollars to repair or replace!

I SHUT THE CAR OFF, RESTARTED AND IT WORKED FINE. APPROX. 10 MILES LATER, DID THE SAME THING. CAR ONLY HAS 9,200 MILES. I DRIVE THE INTERSTATE DAILY AND THIS IS GOING TO BE VERY DANGEROUS IF IT HAPPENS THERE. WILL BE AT THE DEALER AT 9:00AM SHARP TOMORROW.

My car was having issues and still is having issues starting after refueling. After putting fuel in the vehicle my car stalls out. I restart the car I have to give it gas before hurrying up and putting it in drive just to keep the car on. Due to a potential internal leak in the canister purge valve this can cause excessive vacuum in the fuel tank and can potentially lead to a crack in the tank, which can lead to a fuel leak and or fire. The check engine light came on reading one code. And because I'm unable to afford to have it repaired because of how expensive it is, I now have three codes coming off the check engine light. I smell fuel when I turn my car off or I'm running I'm running low on gas. My VSA light has also been on during all of this as well. I would gladly bring the vehicle to anyone to get it completely diagnosed by any professional of your choice.

For 2 months, now, when I fill my gas tank, the vehicle fails to start. After several attempts it chugs then fires up. 2 days ago it started to make a strange humming noise that would last about 5 seconds then stop about 3-4, then come back. Sometimes the hum lasted longer. Happened for a good 5 miles. Then, as I’m driving, the engine starts choking and the rpm gauge is bouncing. Then it sounded like it wanted to shut off so I immediately pulled over. I called a local Ford dealership. I took it there and the garage manager says it sounds like a fuel pump and scheduled me to come in this week for a diagnostic or code check. Didn’t say it wasn’t safe to drive.

JUST NOTICED A LARGE CRACK DEVELOP IN THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF - FRONT PANEL. UNFORTUNATELY I DO NOT REMEMBER THE EXACT DATE. THE CRACK STARTED SMALL AND SPREAD INTO DIFFERENT CRACKS COVERING A GOOD PORTION OF THE SUNROOF. NO EVIDENCE OF ROCK OR IMPACT. CRACKS APPEAR TO BE STRESS RELATED THOUGH I AM NOT AN EXPERT. CALLED FORD DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THIS IS NOT COVERED AS VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. MY VEHICLE IS A 2016 FORD EDGE SPORT WITH 25K MILES. GIVEN A VERBAL ESTIMATE THAT THE PART WOULD COST $1K AND LABOR JUST SHY OF $2K FOR A TOTAL OF $3K. I WILL AGAIN REINFORCE THAT THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENT OR IMPACT AND THE CRACK APPEARED ONE MORNING AND HAVE GROWN. I AM LOOKING TO SELL THE CAR AND THIS IS IMPACTING THE FINAL PRICE I AM TRYING TO NEGOTIATE.

Took vehicle in for update of SYNC system which worked when I dropped it off. Mechanic called said the system wasn't holding charge. Next day they called said vehicle was ready for pickup. Picked up got in and my SYNC system wouldn't turn on. That includes radio,Bluetooth, navigation, backup camera,USB port anything that system controls doesn't work. No mechanic checks for the APIM to see if it is faulty. Now place is saying I have to pay to fix. Extended warranty doesn't cover says it's upgrade not update, even though Fordpass and SYNC system said there was an update for it. I tried to update system and wouldn't let me, both ways I tried to update. Fordpass tried something then said I'd have to take to certified dealer which I did.if nobody checks on the part when it's inspected, how does one know if bad part or not. Plus my 2016 vehicle when looking in SYNC system said last update was in 2003? Picture is showing SYNC system was working also have 5-7 people who can say was working til I brought to place for update. Can provide video and or pictures of my dark screen if needed. Date of incident is when I brought it in for update. Got vehicle back on the 17th the first time, partner brought in again for them to try something that didn't work to reset system.

TIRES
2 complaints
Four Nokian Ones 245/50R20 102V were purchased online from Priority Tires and shipped to Mr. Tire Hammonton NJ on [XXX]. All four tires are separating along the tread block edge on both sides. The tires are being held at Mr. Tire in Hammonton for inspection. Mr. Tire has maintained this vehicle since original purchase 2007 and with severe vibration occurring they determined the cause was tire separation along the outer edges of all four tires. The separation is cracking into the tread block and continuously around the entire circumference of each tire. A blow out is the safety concern and they recommended complete replacement of each tire. My safety and my drivers safety are at stake. I am a [XXX]. This vehicle is my only vehicle to get to my Cardiologist at DeBorah Heart and Lung as well Cardiologist at Jefferson University Hospital as well as the VA in Philadelphia. My concern is driven by Michelin Tires blowing out and recall a few years back. Mr. Tire documents every visit including oil changes, tire installation, tire rotation, 4-wheel rebalancing, 4-wheel alignment. There is, on file, their recommendations and full-service records. The severe vibration began after @30,000 miles and was unsolved due to the defective nature of the tread on all four tires. Several alignments, 4-wheel rebalancing and tire rotation have not resolved and increasing vibration for the past 18 months. Priority tires only looked at pictures denying all requests for in-person inspection. I have also requested Nokian Tyres send a representative for inspection - all denied by Priority Tires. Priority tires supposedly sent the defective warranty claim to Nokian Tyres with a response of "Road Hazzard" was the cause. No response to my request for their definition of "Road Hazzard" and policy procedures. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I purchased FOUR (size 245/60R18) Firestone Destination LE2 tires on May 2, 2019 from my Ford Dealer (Washington Ford) to replace original equipment tires that were wearing down. Mileage on the car at the time was 22047. The tires were rotated on November 22, 2019 (mileage on odometer was 27687 or 5600 miles since purchased), the tire were rotated next on November 11, 2020 (mileage on odometer was 34465 or 12,400 miles since tire purchased). Currently the odometer reads 42,365 and all 4 tires have 5/32" tread depth as measured by the Firestone Dealer on 9/23/2021. Essentially the tires have 20,000 miles on them and are wearing out prematurely for a tire with a 500 treadwear rating and a supposed 60,000 mile warranty. The car has noticeably less traction and has hydroplaned twice during rain events while travelling on the Interstate roads during the pas 14 days. The local Firestone dealer told me there was nothing they can do to pro-rate the mileage until the tires are worn down to 4/32 tread depth. The TIRES ARE UNSAFE NOW. On June 30, 2021 I and my husband just arrived home. My husband had been hospitalized 10 days and was still very weak. I was bringing him home and once I was in the driveway I put the car in park and got out and went to him on the passenger side to help him out. I took him inside and got him settled. When I returned outside to retrieve items from the vehicle, I reached in on the driver side to push the start button to turn off the engine. Immediately the vehicle started rolling and I was knocked down by the door and drug 20-30 feet . The front driver tire ran over my hand and continued to roll into the yard of the house across the street. the neighbor called for an ambulance and I was taken to the hospital. I was treated for road rash and released. I was thankful to be alive under the circumstances but was still concerned for my husband and had no idea why the car rolled. As far as my safety I feel that this could have killed me and or possibly the small child that lives next door had he been out on his tricycle as he often is outside playing. I have not had the vehicle inspected because I thought maybe I had somehow done something to cause it to roll but I know I did not. I am assuming that this recall # 22S43 is likely the reason. I was made aware of this issue with certain years and models by a family member. I did not get any type of warning . I am enclosing pictues where I was injured. Prior to the accident, I had full use of my hands but I still have limited use with my right hand as the two middle fingers are often inflamed and a surgeon later confirmed they had been broken but I was not told at the time of the accident. Possibly because they were so swollen. My hand hurts all of the time and a hand surgeon said he would have to rebreak the fingers to repair the damage.

While during my 2016 ford edge to my daughters house, started going up a hill and as I was attempting to accelerate my speed kept reducing. When I returned home my husband took my car to an independent mechanic who ran diagnostic test which showed cylinder 2 misfiring. Upon further inspection coolant level was low but no leaks were noted. Mechanic stated water pump needed to be replaced to prevent further possible damage to engine. Called local ford dealer to see if they could confirm diagnosis, we were told to diagnose they would charge 165. Unfortunately on a fixed income and cannot afford! After researching this problem online it appears this is a common issue with 2016 ford edge and while there was a recall issue on some 2016 ford automobiles with the same issues, ours is not included!? I believe this should be recalled as it appears this was a known issue with ford cars, especially the Ecoboost, which is what we have

I BOUGHT MY EDGE BRAND NEW IN LATE JULY OF 2016 AND HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS UP UNTIL MARCH OF 2017 (ONE MONTH AGO). WHEN THE "ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT. SERVICE REQUIRED!" LIGHT FIRST STARTED COMING ON, IT WAS GENERALLY JUST SECONDS AFTER STARTING MY CAR, BUT ALWAYS WHILE I WAS TURNING THE WHEEL. FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, IT WAS COMING ON AN AVERAGE OF 2 TO 3 TIMES PER WEEK AND IT WOULD TURN OFF WITHIN FIVE OR SO MINUTES OF MY DRIVE. MY SERVICE LIGHT HAS COME ON EVERYDAY NOW FOR THE PAST FIVE DAYS WITHOUT EVEN HAVING TO TURN MY WHEEL. ONCE MY CAR IS STARTED - THE MESSAGE POPS UP. AND RATHER THAN TURNING OFF A FEW MINUTES OR MILES INTO MY DRIVE, IT REMAINS ON FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THE DRIVE. I CALLED TODAY IN HOPES OF GETTING IT SERVICED BUT UNFORTUNATELY CANNOT BE FIT IN FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK. I LEFT A VOICEMAIL WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER TO ENSURE THAT MY CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THEN BUT HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED A CALL BACK. FINGERS CROSSED!

See attached document for complaint. I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the handling of safety recalls 25V572 and 25V544 on my vehicle, and to urgently request your assistance in having all repairs authorized at a local Ford dealership, due to the profound unprofessionalism and neglect I have experienced from the selling dealership, Pure Honda Ferndale. My vehicle is a 2016 Ford Edge Sport with approximately 101,003 miles. I purchased it from Pure Honda Ferndale just prior to being notified of these active recalls, after which the vehicle was understandably grounded. The core of my issue lies with the conduct of the dealership's management. Before the recall notice and the vehicle being pulled from sale, I was in direct communication with the General Manager, Mr. Sheldon Taylor. He personally assured me that he would resolve several preexisting issues, including arranging for a vehicle exchange or repairs. These issues include the dealership selling me defective and outdated tires and a rim package that no local tire shop will service, as well as a noticeable and hazardous defect in the SYNC system where the screen experiences complete blackouts, particularly when using the navigation and radio. However, once the reca ll was enforced, Mr. Taylor ceased all communication and delegated my case to a sales representative, who has since also ignored my repeated calls and the recall notices I have provided. I have been left with a vehicle I cannot safely drive due to the open recalls and an infotainment system that fails unpredictably, creating significant distraction and safety risk. The dealership that sold me this problematic vehicle now refuses to take responsibility for its prior promises. Given the complete breakdown in communication and the lack of professional accountability from Pure Honda Ferndale, I do not trust them to manage my vehicle's critical safety repairs or address this additional SYNC system defect. Therefore, I respectfully request that the NHTSA assist me in obtaining permission to have the required recall repairs (2SVS72 and 25V544) as well as the diagnosis and repair of the SYNC system blackouts completed at a certified Ford dealership near my home. I believe this is a necessary step to ensure all work is done correctly and that I am treated with the professionalism and respect that Pure Honda Ferndale has failed to provide. For your reference, I have included photographs of the vehicle, taken approximately four days after I took possession, which document its condition at that time. I look forward to your prompt response and guidance on how to resolve this serious matter.

The coolant is leaking into the engine area. Causing repeated coil failures and misfire and i assume damage to engine. I believe engine block needs to repaired or replaced. Also, during both dry and especially slippery/wet conditions... my vehicle is veering to both sides on its own while driving .my hands are on wheel going straight and it just drifts, slips and slides. Afraid I'm going to crash. No warning lights. Might be esc and or abs systems. It seems these are known issues for this year make and model but these recalls and warnings for some reason are not attached to my VIN. I need them attached to my VIN so that I can take to Ford dealership for repair before these system failures kill me.

1am filing this complaint regarding my 2016 Ford Edge (VIN: [XXX] ), which has experienced a severe and dangerous failure. Ford has acknowledged a defect in the flexplate at the transmission bellhousing area under Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) 22N12. This defect causes rattling noises and eventually results in flexplate cracks that can lead to sudden loss of power while driving. My vehicle is currently undrivable due to this defect. I have documentation from February 2025 (A&M Auto Repair, Invoice #[XXX]) showing that a technician identified noise from the rear of the engine/front of the transmission area and suspected flexplate cracks at that time. Despite this, my vehicle never received the CSP repair. Ford is refusing to cover the repair because my vehicle has exceeded the 120,000-mile cutoff for CSP coverage. However, this is not acceptable because: •The defect was documented earlier and existed within the coverage period. •More importantly, this is a serious safety defect that can cause sudden power loss while driving, creating a high risk of accidents. •Ford has incorrectly limited the remedy under a CSP with a mileage cutoff, instead of issuing a proper safety recall without mileage limits. Requested Action: I am requesting NHTSA to investigate and require Ford to: 1.Treat the flexplate defect as a recall, not a CSP. 2.Provide full repair coverage for affected vehicles regardless of mileage. 3.Ensure consumer safety is not compromised by arbitrary mileage cutoffs. In addition, my vehicle has also experienced repeated brake warning lights, which aligns with Ford’s brake hose recall (NHTSA Recall 25V544). The combination of braking issues and flexplate failure creates an extremely unsafe condition. Thank you for your attention to this urgent safety matter. Faulty engine design leads to head gasket failure, engine misfire and stall. Engine stall can cause loss of vehicle motive and braking by loss of vacuum assisted braking. Dealer just completed service on this vehicle and reported the failure after completing repair on another defective part, the flexplate assembly. After completing repairs advised it likely has coolant intrusion issue. Did not inform customer about the TSB showing FORD determined the block is defective and should be replaced at customer cost. Ford has known about this issue since about 2011. These engines need to be recalled. Repair data available to mechanics and on popular video sites show that Fords updated block removes two water paths that interfere with head gasket seating on 2015 - 2019 Ford Edge 2.0L EcoBoost engines. This is a known manufacturer defect that puts owners and occupants in uneeded danger due to Ford's refusal to recall and rectify these engines. There are multiple reports of these engines failing for this issue with as few as 30,000 miles. This engine is also installed in multiple other Ford and Lincoln vehicles including focus, fusion, taurus, Escape, edge, mkz, mkc, and nautilus.

My 2016 Ford Edge with 86k miles encountered a well-known EcoBoost engine problem (TSB 22-2229) where there was coolant intrusion into the cylinder causing a rough start and codes P0302 (cylinder #2 misfire) and P1316 (misfire in first 1000 RPM). My understanding is that this problem can potentially lead to an engine fire. The dealership I bought the Edge from replaced the engine block at my expense, not because the block itself was damaged, but because the newer block doesn't cause the head gasket failure or leakage between the coolant system and the cylinders. I requested a buyback from Ford but it was denied with no explanation given other than the list of general criteria for denial. It would appear based on those general criteria that it was probably denied because the vehicle is out of warranty, I encountered problem after warranty expiration/18k miles, and only one repair job (replacing the engine) appears to have repaired it. But it is clearly a defective engine - only question is how long Ford has known about it. I requested just a refund of the repair cost (engine replacement), but that was also denied. Ford customer care said they would give me an extended warranty as a "goodwill gesture" but this does not cover the sunk cost of the engine replacement and they could not promise me it would cover this same problem if it occurred again.

I had my vehicle serviced (oil change, tire rotation, fluid levels topped off) before we took a trip to Florida from Massachusetts. On the way home from the trip we experienced no heat in our vehicle so we had the vehicle checked out thinking maybe the thermostat needed replacing. Instead the repair shop found the coolant level down by over 1 gallon. They performed a pressure check for leaks and found none. They informed me that there was a for the 2016 Ford Edge. We found an article on line that stated TSB [XXX] superseded TSB [XXX]. I then went to my Ford Dealer to explain the issue that we experienced the issues associated with that TSB and they informed me that my vehicle had no recalls. Ford informed me that it depended on build dates which seems odd when the issue covers several years of this make and model how can it come down to a single date. We got no warning lights lights just the white smoke from the exhaust as well as the loss of a lot of coolant. Looking for direction on how to proceed, I feel this should be covered by Ford because of the numerous issues reported as well as low mileage for the 7 year old vehicle. Going at 60 mph on highway, car suddenly starts to go slow, and pressing the gas doesn't move the car not even a mile higher. Semi trucks begin to honk horns at you. Afraid now to take highway again. Soon as I exit highway, press the gas and the car doesn't want to shift, almost as if it gets stuck. Continue driving on street and when turning, the car doesn't want to go. Ford had it for 3 days but didn't find anything. Have read posts and found one person with same issue that said it's code 2111, having to do with the throttle. So many people with the same issue and no recalls. It's dangerous to drive on highway now.

My parking brake, ABS, and Traction Control (ESC) warning lights all illuminate even when not engaged (Parking Brake states engaged even while driving.) Traction Control (ESC) on/off indicators illuminate opposite of engagement/unengagement (no correlation between.) Identical symptoms from NHTSA recall #16V733000. My car was manufactured right during that timeframe when my make/model/year were deemed loaded with improper ABS/ESC computer software. I brought it into Ford repeatedly and it was incorrectly diagnosed as a faulty E-Brake switch, only to give me my vehicle back and E-Brake could not be unengaged while they returned me the keys in the lot. They looked at it again and stated my ABS Module was broken causing my parking brake actuators to now be faulty resulting in my rear rotors to be worn down to unsafe driving levels. The best reason they could give me for a faulty ABS Module was "lightning strike." I called Ford Customer Care and asked if my car was overlooked in this recall before sold to me and they originally said it was (told me it was manufactured in Ontario,Canada) but then called back to tell me it wasn't one of the vehicles affected. I am deafly afraid that my braking system will fail as I am driving.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE INTERSTATE, THREE DIFFERENT TIMES IT SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING, LOST ALL POWER AND SHUTDOWN THE CAR. NO POWER, LIGHTS, POWER STEERING, ETC. I HAD TO COAST TO A STOP ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE. ONCE I WAS STOPPED, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND IT RESTARTED LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THESE EVENTS WERE VERY DANGEROUS. ONCE WAS WHEN IT WAS RAINING SO WHEN THE CAR LOST POWER, THE WIPERS STOPPED AT 70 MPH SO I HAD TO NAVIGATE TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO SEE. A SECOND TIME WAS AT NIGHT DRIVING 70 MPH, WHEN IT SHUTDOWN, I LOST HEADLIGHTS AND I COULDN'T SEE. IT WAS TERRIFYING AS I WAS IN A REMOTE AREA OF I-49 WITHOUT ANY LIGHTING TO NAVIGATE TO THE SHOULDER. AGAIN, ONCE STOPPED AND PUT IN PARK, IT RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. PLEASE NOTE, I'M NOT THE OWNER OF THIS CAR. I WAS DRIVING IT AS A LOANER FROM A USED CAR DEALERSHIP. THIS PROBLEM WAS SO SERIOUS I AM REPORTING DIRECTLY TO THE NHTSA AS THIS CAR HAD NO RECALLS TO ADDRESS. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET INJURIES OR DIE. I WAS TERRIFIED.

WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS OF THE 2016 EDGE. AT APPROXIMATELY 48,000 MILES, WE HEARD A POPPING NOISE IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION WHICH PROGRESSED TO A LOUD SQUEAKING SOUND ON BUMPS AND TURNING. THE LOCAL DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AT 54,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE STARTED DARTING ON UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES (RAPID SHIFTS IN DIRECTIONAL STABILITY, OFTEN CHANGING LANES WITHOUT WARNING). THE LOCAL DEALER SAID THERE WERE NO TSB'S ON THAT PROBLEM AND DID NOT FIND A PROBLEM(!). I RAISED THE FRONT SUSPENSION MYSELF AND FOUND THE DRIVERS BALL JOINT ALMOST READY TO DISLODGE FROM THE CONTROL ARM. I REPLACED THE LOWER CONTROL ARM MYSELF (I AM A RETIRED AUTO INSTRUCTOR) FOLLOWING FORD'S RECOMMENDATIONS. AFTER AN ALIGNMENT, THE VEHICLE DRIVES CONSIDERABLY BETTER BUT SOMEHOW NOT PERFECT. NOTE THAT THERE IS STILL A CLUNKING IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION BUT THERE DOESNT APPEAR TO BE ANYTHING LOOSE, ALTHOUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT APPEARS TO BE LOOSER THAN WHAT I WOULD EXPECT FOR THAT YEAR VEHICLE WITH THAT MILEAGE (NOW JUST AT 57,000 MILES.) THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION WHICH CERTAINLY SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A VEHICLE WITH THAT FEW MILES

WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION THE PROXIMITY SENSORS GO OFF INADVERTENTLY FREQUENTLY WHEN THERE IS NO OBJECT THERE. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO FORD SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES ONLY TO BE TOLD EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT OKAY. THIS HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS AND IS VERY ANNOYING AND MAKES US NOT TRUST THE SENSORS SINCE THEY SENSE OBJECTS THAT ARE NOT VISIBLE. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN SLOWING DOWN FOR A STOP SIGN AT AN INTERSECTION OR STOP LIGHT. IT CAN GO OFF ON EITHER SIDE EVEN THROUGH NO OTHER VEHICLES OR OBJECTS ARE THERE. MY WIFE HAS RECORDED THIS ON HER PHONE TO SHOW THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT BUT SO FAR THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE IT. WHEN WE SHOWED THEM THE VIDEO THEY SAID THEY HAD ANOTHER PERSON RECORD A VIDEO OF THE SAME ISSUE ON ANOTHER FORD EDGE UNDER SLOWING OR COMING TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. THIS REPORT WANTS A SPECIFIC DATE REPORTED WHEN THIS HAPPENED HOWEVER AS MENTIONED THIS HAPPENS ON A REGULAR BASIS AND HAS DONE SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM FORD COUNTRY IN HENDERSON, NV. DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 80 MPH IN MOTION WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO GO INTO 'LIMP MODE.' THE DASH STATED THERE WAS 'LOW OIL PRESSURE' AND 'CHECK AIRBAGS.' WITHIN THE NEXT THREE SECONDS THE CAR STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND POWER STEERING WAS SHUT OFF. THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN AT A DRAMATIC RATE LEAVING ME STRANDED. AFTER THE CAR KILLED THE ENGINE I WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD TURN OVER, BUT NOT HOLD POWER IT WOULD DIE IMMEDIATELY. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO START THE CAR AFTER WAITING 10 MINUTES. THE CAR WOULD START AND HOLD POWER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND AIRBAG LIGHT WERE ON. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO DRIVE A MILE BEFORE THE PROBLEM WOULD START ALL OVER AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AVERAGING ABOUT EVERY 2,000 MILES. IT HAS HAPPENED IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS, RAIN, AND ON A 50 DEGREE DAY. ALSO WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH AND ON A HIGHWAY GOT 55 MPH. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING WRING WITH THE CAR. PLEASE ALLOW ME TO QUALIFY THIS DOCUMENTATION BY STATING THAT WE HAVE NOT YET BROUGHT THIS AUTO BACK TO THE DEALER AT THIS TIME. WE PURCHASED THE CAR LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. THE CAR HAS FEWER THAN 3,000 MILES. IN THE PAST WEEK WE ARE SEEING THE ADAPTIVE STEERING WARNING LIGHT COME ON AFTER STARTING AND AS SOON AS PUTTING THE CAR INTO GEAR. THIS HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK. WE HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY DIFFERENCE IN STEERING, THE WHEEL TURNING OFF CENTER, NONE OF THE ISSUES REPORTED BY NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE ON THE WEB. BUT I CERTAINLY EXPECT THIS TO HAPPEN AT SOME POINT. MY CONCERN IS HOW MANY REPORTS ARE ON THE WEB FROM OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCE THIS FAULT. AND THE MANY VARIATIONS OF HOW DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS CHOOSE TO MANAGE THE PROBLEM. EVERYTHING FROM REPLACING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE GOOD OLD "WELL, WE CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM" BRUSH OFF. ONCE AGAIN, I HAVE NOT YET VISITED MY FORD DEALER BUT EXPECT TO VERY QUICKLY. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY WILL DO, IF THEY WILL DO ANYTHING, OR HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE. WHAT I DO KNOW IS THE FOLLOWING....... AN ISSUE OF THIS NATURE CONSTITUTES, IN MY MIND, A QUESTIONABLE LEVEL OF SAFETY CONCERN BE IT MILD OR MAJOR. THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE MUST PAY FOR ADDITIONAL EXPENSES BY MISSING WORK, MAYBE RENTING A CAR, TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM POSSIBLY RESOLVED OR POSSIBLY NOT. AND IN THE INTERIM DRIVE WITH A CONCERN FOR SAFETY. BECAUSE NOT EVERYONE CAN JUST STOP WHAT THEY ARE DOING WHEN THAT LIGHT COMES ON AND DRIVE TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER WHICH, FOR THE MOST PART, IS ONLY OPEN M-F AND USUALLY REQUIRES APPOINTMENTS IN ADVANCE. I AM KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED THAT OUR DEALER, WHICH WE BOUGHT TWO NEW 2016 CARS FROM LAST YEAR, WILL BE PRO-ACTIVE IN ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM ONCE WE CAN BRING THE CAR IN. BUT I BELIEVE THE NHTSA MUST BECOME INVOLVED AND DEMAND THAT FMC DEVELOPS A FIX AND OFFERS A RECALL.

TAKATA RECALL- ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT-MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON NOVEMBER 16, 2016 AND IN THAT TIME ITS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES FOR AN ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT WARNING THAT CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, TO WHICH NO ONE COULD FIGURE OUT WHY. BY MY THIRD ATTEMPT TO BRING THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY FINALLY TOLD ME THAT HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALERSHIP THEN SHOWED ME A NOTICE THAT WAS SENT OUT BACK BEFORE I BOUGHT MY CAR THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE REGARDING THE STEERING THIS NOTICE WAS DATED NOVEMBER 3, 2016. I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FOR ITS SAFETY DUE TO HAVING A 5 YEAR OLD AND CURRENTLY PREGNANT, THEN TO FIND OUT THAT THIS HAD A DEFECT BEFORE PURCHASING THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF AND YET LEAD TO BELIEVE IT WAS STILL SAFE. THEN I RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAGS NOT FULLY FILLING UP AND THOSE HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE CALLED BACK IN JUNE WHEN I RECEIVED THE LETTER AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO COME IN. IT IS NOW SEPTEMBER 26 WITH NO ANSWERS ON WHEN THESE TWO WILL BE FIXED FOR A 4TH TIME. I WAS TOLD THAT WHEN REPLACING THE STEERING WHEEL I MIGHT LOSE OUT ON SOME OF THE TECHNOLOGY THAT I PURCHASED MY CAR WITH AND I EXPECT SOME KIND OF COMPENSATION FOR THIS. THE STEERING DEFECT WARNING WOULD RANDOMLY COME ON, SOMETIMES WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON, SOMETIMES WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL, SOMETIMES WOULD TURN OFF AND THEN RANDOMLY COME BACK ON. THE DEALERSHIP DID DO A SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH CHANGED THE FEEL OF THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY AND THE WARNING CAME BACK ON TWO DAYS LATER. AS YOU CAN SEE THIS BRAND NEW VEHICLE ISN'T EVEN A YEAR OLD AND HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MORE THAN MY USED CAR. EVERY TIME I HAVE TO LEAVE MY CAR AND THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME A LOANER CAR MAKING ME MISS WORK EVERY TIME.

MY VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING ON A STRAIGHT SECTION OF ROAD DURING RUSH HOUR (HAD AT LEAST A HALF TANK OF GAS). I WAS PUSHING NORMALLY ON THE GAS PEDAL TO KEEP MOVING AND SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR DECELERATED AND LOST POWER AS IF I RAN OUT OF GAS. IT CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. NO LIMP MODE, I HAD TO COAST TO A PLACE TO PULL OVER. POWER WAS ON AND ALL COMPONENTS WERE WORKING EXCEPT THERE WAS NO GAS WHEN I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL. THE WRENCH ICON LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD. WHEN I TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE THE GAS PEDAL WORKED SO I PUT IT IN "DRIVE" AND ACCELERATED CAUTIOUSLY. AFTER FIVE MINUTES, I LOST POWER AGAIN, JUST BEFORE ENTERING A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER COULD HAVE KILLED ME ON A HIGHWAY, OR IN THE MIDDLE OF ANY BUSY INTERSECTION, NOT TO MENTION HARM OTHER DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS. I TOOK IT TO FORD SERVICE THE NEXT DAY AND THEY SAID I HAD A BAD THROTTLE BODY. IT WAS NOT CONTAMINATED, IT JUST FAILED. THEY STATED THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY SAW A FAILED THROTTLE BODY IN A 2016 EDGE. (13,000 MILES). MY HUSBAND SAID IT HAPPENED TO HIM ONCE EARLIER THIS YEAR, AND HE IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR ADVICE. HE WAS INSTRUCTED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND IT SHOULD BE FINE AFTER STARTING IT BACK UP. IT WORKED. THAT MAY BE A SHORT TERM SOLUTION - TO GET HOME. I'M EXPERIENCING WHAT MANY, MANY OTHER FORD SUPER DUTY TRUCK OWNERS HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING SINCE ABOUT 2005 COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE". AT SPEEDS ABOVE 45 MILES PER HOUR, WHEN THE TRUCK GOES ACROSS A ROUGH (WASHBOARD) BIT OF ROAD OR A BRIDGE JOINT, THE FRONT END SOMETIMES SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHICH ALSO CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY UNTIL YOU CAN BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP, WHICH IS NOT EASY. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, WHICH COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL RESULTING IN INJURY TO PASSENGERS AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. IN THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE, IT APPEARS THAT FORD HAS DONE VERY LITTLE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM FOR CONSUMERS. I HAVE MENTIONED THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK NEW TWICE NOW AND THEY SAY THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM IN A TEST DRIVE. I HAVE ONLY 26,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. HAVE HAD IT ALIGNED TWICE AND TIRES ROTATED REGULARLY. NO UNUSUAL WEAR. WHILE DRIVING WITH MY WIPERS ON AT 70MPH ON INTERSTATE 35 SOUTH JUST NORTH OF ALBERT LEA MINNESOTA MY WIPER BLADES STARTED TO GET CAUGHT IN THE WIND, I HEARD A SLAPPING NOISE A FEW TIMES AND THEN ALL THE SUDDEN AS THE WIPERS WENT TO WIPE THE PASSENGER SIDE BLADE WAS LIFTED BY THE WIND AND WAS DROPPED ON TOP OF THE OTHER BLADE. THE LATCH THAT HOLDS THE BLADE ON TO THE DRIVER SIDE WIPER WAS BLOCKING THE PASSENGER SIDE BLADE AND CAUSED THE WIPERS TO BECOME NON FUNCTIONAL. AT THIS POINT I WAS GETTING VERY NERVOUS BECAUSE VISIBILITY RAPIDLY DIMINISHED BECAUSE I COULD NO LONGER USE MY WIPERS. I TRIED TURNING THEM ON TO HIGH AND LOW AND THEY WOULD NOT WORK. THE WIPERS DID TRY TO "FIX" THEM SELVES BY PULSING A FEW TIMES BUT ONLY IN THE DOWN DIRECTION, HAD THEY TRIED TO GO IN THE UPRIGHT DIRECTION I THINK THEY COULD HAVE FIXED THEM SELVES. AT THIS POINT I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PULL OVER IN THE COLD AND RAIN TO MANUALLY MOVE THE WIPER ARMS INTO A POSITION WERE THEY COULD WORK NORMALLY, MIND YOU I WAS GOING 70MPH AND WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE VERY WELL TO EVEN PULL OVER. ON AN UNRELATED NOTE, THE HEADLIGHTS IN THIS VEHICLE ESPECIALLY WHEN THE ROADS ARE WET ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORSE HEADLIGHTS I HAVE EVER USED. NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR A BRAND NEW CAR. *TR
