Ford has a known problem with Ecoboost engines can leak coolant into the engine’s valves. This happened to our vehicle and we had to replace the engine due to misfiring cylinders. The check engine light kept coming on. We intially replaced all spark plugs and coils. Then after that didn't resolve the problem, the entire engine had to be replaced.

My ford edge has a problem where coolant mysteriously disappears a flood like it’s getting vacuumed into engine cylinders causing the engine to run rough with white smoke coming from exhaust. This is on my 2.0l turbocharged ecoboost engine and I have already seen other consumer reports about other having the same issue all over social media and Ford will not do anything about it and will charge you almost $10,000 dollars for something that was their fault. They made a mistake in creating the engine block and thus now many people are suffering because of this.

2.0L EcoBoost engine - while driving the 2018 Ford Edge with approximately 50K miles, the vehicle displayed a rapid overtemp condition and then a check engine light for a misfire on cylinder 2. Coolant was almost empty and I re-filled the resivoir and dealer reset the check engine light. This happened about two more times with the coolant resivoir along with multiple check engine lights for the #2 cylinder. Each time the Ford dealer reset the check engine light for the #2 cylinder but did not give information about why the coolant level was dropping to almost zero. I went to a different dealer who referred me to the Ford TCB 22-2229. I Spoke to Ford customer service directly and the engine long block was replaced at my expense since Ford would not pay for the repair.

The defect involves the engine block or cylinder head design, which allows engine coolant to intrude into the engine's combustion cylinders. Coolant mixing with the engine oil will cause a catastrophic failure and can lead to an engine fire. Ford has issued Technical Service Bulletins TSB 19-2346 but it does not cover any cost and no recalls have been issued. This is a known manufacturing defect in which Ford is taking no accountability.

2018 Ford Edge with 119K miles. Issue has been determined to be the known issue of coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The issue was noticed while stopped at a traffic light, vehicle started "reving" and showed RPM fluctuations. On two separate occasions, the vehicle lost all ability to accelerate while driving. It's also has white smoke coming out of the exhaust and has been losing coolant at an alarming rate. After multiple inspections and other attempted fixes (water pump replacement, spark plugs replaced, fuel pump replaced), it's been determined that the coolant intrusion is to blame. The vehicle is deemed unsafe to drive in the current state and extended warranty is no longer in affect due to the mileage.

My 2018 Ford Edge (VIN [XXX] ) suffered a premature transmission failure at 105,415 miles. Just 389 miles earlier, Ford performed Customer Satisfaction Program 22N12 (flexplate/torque converter/pump replacement), for which I paid $1,669 as my 50% share. Less than two months later, the same dealer diagnosed the transmission as failed due to the forward clutch being stuck and quoted $6,955 for replacement. Ford’s maintenance schedule does not require transmission service until 150,000 miles, so this failure is premature and unreasonable. A transmission failure at highway speed could cause sudden loss of power, greatly increasing the risk of a crash. This issue appears related to Ford’s known flexplate defect (CSP 22N12) and raises concern of broader transmission reliability/safety problems in affected vehicles. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I’m having an issue where there’s a sudden loss of all power while driving at highway speeds, forcing me to slowly move to a safe spot while trying not to get hit by other cars. Once I’m safely stopped, I have to turn the vehicle off and back on, and then the power is restored—but the problem can randomly happen anytime at speeds over 65–70 mph. No codes are showing. A repair shop couldn’t find the issue, and even the dealership says everything is fine and just tells me to keep driving it. Sometimes it happens twice in one day, and other times I won’t see it for a week.

The car has been having a chemical smell when it starts. I recently was driving from San Antonio, Texas to Austin, Texas and received a warning that my car was overheating. The warning went off immediately and I continued driving it. A few days later, I got an oil change and was told that I had no coolant in the vehicle. They filled the coolant for me. I continued driving the car. This week, the car was shaking pretty violently when I turned on the ignition. I proceeded to drive it and it drove normally. The following day, a check engine light came on. I took it in to see a mechanic that day and they confirmed that I had a coolant intrusion problem caused by the 2.0L Eco boost engine which is defective and allows coolant to escape into the engine injectors. Ford is not taking any responsibility for this and says that it is not under warranty so there's no programs they can offer me. Ford should issue a recall of this defective product to avoid injuries or accidents.

This car hesitates, engine light indicates misfire. Dealer confirms coolant leaking into the engine. I find out now this is a well known and widespread problem with Ford engines in this era. The car is unsafe to drive due to impending sudden and complete engine failure.

Computer error P0304 - misfiring in cylinder 4. Diagnosed with a coolant leak into the cylinder. Potential Safety Issues: Loss of Power: A misfire can cause sudden power loss, particularly during acceleration or at high speeds, increasing the risk of accidents, especially in traffic or on highways. Engine Stalling: If the misfire worsens, the engine may stall, leaving you unable to control the vehicle, which is dangerous in busy areas or intersections. Overheating Risk: Coolant intrusion into cylinder 4 (as noted in TSB 22-2229) can lead to overheating if the cooling system is compromised, potentially causing engine failure or fire hazards. Catalytic Converter Damage: Persistent misfires can overheat and damage the catalytic converter, potentially leading to a fire risk under the vehicle. Beyond this, it is my 17 year old daughter driving this car and she could be stranded some place unsafe due to not starting or in the middle of traffic while driving. It has been inspected by a mechanic to confirm the leak. Ford's issuing of a TSB on this issue (TSB 22-2229) - calls for a new engine. Ford knows they have made faulty engines in these cars and refuses to help cover the cost of replacement.

My engine light came on about a year ago, then went off rather quickly. This happened again about 6 months ago. At this time I connected a reader and learned that it was due to a cylinder 2 misfire. All coil packs and spark plugs were replaced thinking that would solve the problem. After it did not, I begin to search online and learned about the infamous coolant intrusion issue with my model vehicle . After reading multiple message boards regarding the issue, which appears to be directly tied to the motor design and which is very common, I confirmed that my vehicle is showing the same signs of others who have reported the issue. The last straw was when the car lost power and shut off of me in the middle of a crowded gas station parking lot where I had to sit and wait for a tow truck all while impeding traffic. At this point I am outside of my extended warranty and the only solution is a new motor at the cost of $8k. It is baffling that Ford is not being held responsible for this issue when it is so common and directly tied to the design of their motor. I am currently not able to drive a car that I am still paying a monthly payment for due to the manufacturer’s design flaw. A recall for this is well overdue and I ask you to do something about this expeditiously. Thanks.

POWER LIFTGATE FAILURE Recently, I put my hand on car to steady myself while my wife got my walker from the back of the car. she closed the hatch, but I had not lifted my hand and my finger was caught by the hatch. My wife immediately pushed the button on the hatch but it would not open. She then tried the dash button. It did not open. she started the car and tried the button and the hatch did not open, but did release just enough to release my finger. What if had been alone. 30,000 get their hands in car doors each year. what if this were a child and the hatch would not open. There are times where the hatch WILL NOT OPEN! There is no way to open the hatch manually. This very SERIOUS. There must be RECALL and Ford must replace existing controls with fail safe controls

I recently bought my car and the battery light was on when I test drove it. They told me to bring it back and they would fix it. That it was a sensor problem easy to fix. I have brought the car back multiple times. They put a whole new sensor system in, new battery, and just recently rebuilt the alternator. As I was driving the car home, the light went on again it comes on a few times in the day, and eventually goes off by itself. None of the mechanics know what to do now. I looked up on Google if there were any recalls on my car and read something about” the power supply cables at the starter, and the alternator may not have been properly secured, possibly resulting in an electrical arc. “ I’m thinking, possibly could this be it? The light that comes on says charging system service now in red and there is a picture of at battery. I do not feel safe, especially not knowing what the problem is.

Only have about 13600 miles on my 2018 Edge and the battery drains down about .5 v overnight. Could not start in in my garage after 4 days of sitting, charged it up and took it to the Ford dealer where they did a load test on the battery, it tested at 89%. I did a load test with a multimeter with the same results. Dealer told me to keep a trickle charger on it because I didn't drive it enough which was a poor answer. There is a NHTSA #18V54800 out there and a Ford recall #18S25 that does not include my SUV but it could have the same problem. Looking on line there are others with the same issues with the battery going dead just by sitting and in most cases changing out batteries was not the cure and it seemed Ford offered no resolve. If this is a problem caused by a loose connection or a short it could indeed become a bigger safety issue. My vehicle was built at the same plant as stated on the Ford recall # and it should be considered a safety issue for all Edges of the model year of 2018 made a that plant. I'm not sure this is my problem but I need to start somewhere noting that it's happened to others besides me. Thank you for any help in this matter

The headlights are so dim that the vehicle is almost unsafe to drive at night time. This is especially true while driving in rain or snow at night. I have different strengths of headlights nothing helps. My family is at the point of not wanting to ride anywhere with me in the vehicle at night time. This past weekend it was raining when we left family and driving 20 miles in rain and night on low beam my girlfriend said she will never ride again at night. We live in an area where deer and other animals are often near the road at night time. This 2018 Ford Edge has even me a military veteran almost too scared to drive the vehicle at night time!! PLEASE HELP make Ford remedy this problem before people die!!! There seems to be some sort of opaque lens in front of the low beam headlight bulb and it seems to make is so the low beam is unable to give the vehicle any good lighting on low beam at night time.

Ford Ecoboost 2.0 engine in my 2018 Ford Edge failed at 71,945 miles due to cooling leaking into cylinder #2. Engine started rough for about two weeks but leveled out after about 5 seconds. When the check engine light came on while my wife was leaving home, we stopped driving the car until I could get an appt with Conway Heaton Ford in Bardstown KY. There the engine was found to have coolant leaking into the #2 cylinder. Dealer said the car was unsafe to drive and the engine needed to be replaced. First indication of an issue was when the check engine light illuminated (2/1/2024). I took car to an independent repair shop who identified the codes as PO304 - misfire cylinder 4 and P0316 - misfire on start up. Borescope revealed coolant leaking thru #4 cylinder wall & cylinder #1 showing stream of coolant from cylinder head gasket. Ford TSB recommends long block engine replacement due to coolant intrusion in the engine. The car remained parked from 2/2/24 to 3/13/2024. 3/13/2024. On 3/13 I took the car to the local Ford dealership whose service department confirmed the original diagnosis. Safety issue - coolant intrusion into the combustion chamber could induce an engine fire or cause the engine to seize up while being driven. The car is still at the Ford dealership. The mileage when the CELcame on was 72944 miles. Current mileage approximately 72960. Toatal cost to repaired quoted at $ 9,110.01.

Having no seat belt causes a safety problem and a legal issue with mandatory seat belt use. Dealer in Ellijay Ronnie Thompson Ford confirmed the issue but said we would have to pay for problem-. This is a Ford Edge problem I have seen from other posts on line. Problem started about 3 months ago. This happened with no warning.

The seat belt on the driver's side front keeps getting locked up and won't release. I have to mess with the seat belt height adjuster to get it to work and sometimes it just doesn't which then makes my seat belt alert light and beep go off every few minutes. It's also against the law to go without my seat belt which is definitely an issue. I haven't even had this car for a year and I have not had any accidents nor did the car report I got when I purchased it state that there were any accidents on it.

The lug nuts are bulging and won't come off which as needed then the wheel can't as well. Just had new tires put on which the shop had to destroy one to get the wheel off. If a flat tire occurred I would not be able to take off a wheel and change it. I have heard this is a problem on the design for many Ford vehicles.

Adaptive steering fault and steering wheel is off center when driving. Ford dealer can’t figure out problem. A serious safety concern.

The steering wheel will click softly and act like it skipped a tooth on a gear. I am told I could lose steering control all together and its possible to just lock up as I'm driving which could lead to an accident or worse. Estimated repairs are from $2300.00 to $ 3000.00 + taxes. From research it appears this has been a problem across multiple models of Ford products from the time this system was initially installed back in 2008.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

When refueling and the engine is on the revolutions (rpm) go up and down and then engine will turn off by itself. It then takes 2 to 5 minutes to restart engine and then you have to raise the rpm’s until it’s drivable. During this process you can also smell fuel from gas tank area.
Dec 04, 2024
The car has difficulty staying started after filling up with fuel. It does settle out but it is getting worse.. Today, it shut off while moving after just being filled up. Apparently, the fuel purge valve is going bad. This should be a recall of some sort since it seems to be a common problem with this vehicle. An expensive problem.

THE 2018 FORD EDGE HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL TANK THAT IS YET TO BE ADDRESSED. WHENEVER I PUMP GAS INTO THE TANK, THE CAR WILL NOT START UNTIL AT LEAST 15 ATTEMPTS. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE BECAUSE THE TANK WHICH HAS NO CAP DOES NOT CREATE ENOUGH SUCTION PRESSURE FOR THE ENGINE TO PULL THE GAS. WHENEVER GAS IS NEWLY PUMPED, THE ENGINE SEEMS TO PULL AIR, AND WILL NOT START. THE TANK SEEMS TO BE UNABLE TO BLEED OUT AIR OR MAYBE WILL NOT CREATE THE RIGHT PRESSURE UNTIL THE TANK CREATES ENOUGH PRESSURE FOR THE GAS TO FLOW WELL INTO THE ENGINE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT FORD COMPANY SEERM NOT TO BE AWARE OF OR MAYBE THEY ARE AWARE AND JUST NOT ADDRESSING IT OR JUST A FACTORY FAULT. WHATEVER IT IS, THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY A RECALL PLEASE

CAR WAS IN MOTION ON A PAVED STATE OF NEBRASKA HIGHWAY. I HEARD A LOAD POP, DID NOT SEE ANYTHING IN ROAD OR FEEL THAT THE CAR HIT ANY KIND OF ROAD HAZARD. WAS TWO MILES FROM HOME, NO WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN PARKED I DID SMELL GAS BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM BECAUSE THERE WAS A LIGHT RAIN. IN THE MORNING ALL FUEL HAD DRAINED OUT ON THE GROUND AND DOWN THE STREET. HAD IT TOWED TO SHOP, THEY FOUND A HOLE IN THE GAS TANK AND DETERMINED IT WAS A ROAD HAZARD COLLISION. FORD SEEMS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT TANK AND IT APPEARS IT WILL LIKELY BE MONTHS BEFORE THEY CAN GET ONE IN. JUST CONCERNED THAT THIS TANK MAYBE PRONE TO HOLES CAUSED BY PERHAPS JUST A ROCK BEING THROWN UP UNDER THE TANK. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD SITUATION AS I AM A SMOKER AND OFTEN SIT IN MY CAR AND HAVE ONE BEFORE GOING IN THE HOUSE. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT FORD CAN'T PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT TANK, AND SEVERAL PLACES I HAVE CHECK SAY THE TANK FOR THIS CAR HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED. POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH THE EXISTING TANK THAT THEY ARE NOT DISCLOSING. WHY SHOULD IT TAKE 3 MONTHS TO GET A REPLACEMENT GAS TANK?

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
3 complaints
The problem began in early August 2025 when the check engine light came on and the vehicle misfired. A Ford mobile technician inspected it before 8/23/25, confirmed Diagnostic Code P0303 (Cylinder 3 Misfire), but said it was likely just a bad ignition coil. Based on that, I went to Midas on 8/23/25 for a tune-up and coil check. On 9/29/25, the check engine light returned and for the first time the coolant over-temperature warning illuminated. Midas confirmed coolant intrusion into Cylinder 3: borescope and pressure test showed leakage, leak-down test failed with air entering the coolant reservoir, and visible coolant loss was present. At 80,445 miles, the engine was deemed unsafe and required full replacement. Hawk Ford confirmed no warranty extensions or programs applied. The repair cost was $10,500 out of pocket. This defect matches Ford TSB [XXX] , is widely reported in EcoBoost engines, and creates a serious safety risk since the vehicle misfires, overheats, and may stall while driving. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Coolant leak into cylinder causing engine to misfire, caused by warped cylinder head. Chapman Ford and CarShop have inspected and confirmed this issue and have indicated it is a common, recurring issue with Ford engines. Ford issued a service bulletin about this specific problem in 2019. In August 2019, the engine light went on, “misfire in cylinder #2”.
Oct 03, 2024
My check engine light was on and my car would shake and vibrate upon staring the engine. I was running low on coolant when I shouldn’t be despite no signs of leaking on the ground. I took it to an authorized shop by Carfax, it’s Autotech in O Fallon, MO. They ran diagnostic tests and the codes were P0302 and P0316, which apparently are common issues with Ford Edges between 2015-2018. The shop owner said it’s normal for these cars even with low miles to end up needing a new engine bc of how Ford built them to where there are cylinder misfires causing coolant to leak into the engine causing engine failure. I asked why there were no recalls on this known issues and he assumed it must be bc no one died yet. I have since been reading thread after thread online of customers having this same issue and needing a new engine some even after only 25,000 and 50,000 miles. I bought my car used less than a year and a half ago with 59,000 miles on it and was not offered a warranty, which I know no why, they probably knew of the issue and the dealership didn’t want to be on the hook to cover a new engine. So now I’m stuck with an unsafe car to drive or shell out $9000 on a new engine that will fail like others who had theirs replaced only to have the same thing happen. I love my car and don’t want to give it up. How can Ford take ownership of their poor design flaw that is causing this to happen and put us at risk of being stranded or worse when our engine blows? Ford tough…how so? These cars are worthless after only 25,000 for some. For me I only got 15000 miles out of my car that I still owe $17,000 on and now I’m told I have to pay almost $10,000 to replace the engine for their design flaw that they have known for years is a major issue? There are lawsuits for this issue. There is class action in California for this issue. How can they get away with this? I’m stranded right now and I can’t afford to fix it and nor should I have to. Ford should be held accountable, not me.

Engine has coolant intrusion Drivers seat belt will lock periodically

I have a 2018 Ford Edge that radiator fluid has leaked into the cylinder causing the vehicle to malfunction. Ford knows about this problem and refuses to do a recall. Also, I have a seatbelt that hasn’t worked in years and needs replacement. I contacted Ford years ago and have been told repeatedly that it’s on back order.

I brought in my vehicle for regular service (I.e., oil change) on June 2nd and all was well though i did get my rear brakes done. By June 19th, my check engine light came in and when I brought in my vehicle later that same morning, I was informed coolant had leaked into the engine, now requiring an entire engine replacement which I was told would cost 8500. I have since learned this is a fairly common issue is this model ford edge with eco boost engines and am appalled ford has not issued a recall for this defect.
Jun 27, 2025
I first noticed the sound of water running in the dash each time I started the car. At that time I don’t recall an engine light on. It would sound like bubbles and water running for 10 seconds or so and then it would go away. That lasted a while before I was driving home from work and on two consecutive mornings my car lost acceleration power. This is dangerous in that I have to cross traffic on a busy road and had I tried to go quickly between cars I definitely couldn’t have moved to get out of the way. Each time this happened I pulled over and restarted the car and was able to get home. While waiting for my appointment with ford my car overheated and I got an engine overheat prompt. This was in the middle of summer and I had my two kids in the car. I drove to an auto zone and my dad met me to help add more coolant. At first glance it looked low, but once he opened the cap it bubbled up to appropriate levels. So overall we didn’t add too much coolant. I took it into ford and they told me I had an engine coolant leak into the main block and I had to replace my entire engine out of pocket. My car was at ford for 30 days waiting for replacement and the installation.

The adaptive steering fault light came on. My steering wheel is slightly turned to the right. I took it into the dealership for service and troubleshooting for this issue. As far as I can tell, there is not a recall for this issue, however I am reading about numerous incidents where this is happening in particular with the Ford Edge. The part is back ordered and the repair quote is $4,090, which is outrageous. In the interim, I was advised not to drive the vehicle because it could completely fail. I am completely disappointed in Ford. I bought my 2018 Ford Edge used and I love the car, but a $4k repair for a 6 year old car with about 55k miles is outrageous. Ford should issue a recall for this problem.
Nov 02, 2024
About a week and a half ago, we started getting an error message that the Adaptive steering fault requires service. We contacted our local Ford dealer who says it could be an electrical issue. But can't see us until Nov 1st. Additionally ,when driving straight, the steering wheels ( Ford logo) is turned to the left. It is worrisome but the dealer says it's safe to drive. I don't think so. In doing our research,we've found that this seems to be an issue. I shouldn't have to pay for theses repairs whether through my pocket or through my extended warranty. Which will be out of pocket either way, because I pay for this through my car note and would have a deductible.

I HAVE ASKED MY DEAL WHAT IT WOULD COST TO HAVE BRIGHTER BULBS PUT IN. THEY TOLD ME THAT FORD DOESN'T HAVE BRIGHTER BULBS. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS GOING TO COST ME $399.00 TO HAVE THEM BUY OUTSIDE OF FORD AND HAVE THEM PUT THEM IN FOR ME . PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AS IT SEEMS TO BE A ISSUE FOR A FEW YEARS. Floor board got flooded with water! The back seam that is in the roof is faulty. The seam is above opening when lift gate is up ( not the seal around the gate). Front, midde and compartment with the spare was drenched. Water ran down the pillars ( nose was angled up). Ford refused to give any assistance. My concern is all the electrical components can be dangerous and the possibility of mold on the inside. Our 3/36 warranty has expired 4,000 miles ago and out on the time by around 6 mos. We have owned the ford less than a year and it has a clean history report. This is a part that should seal the roof. We have never touched it and until pointed out, wasn't aware of it. Other owners should be aware of this. What other damages can not be seen?

2018 Ford Edge with a little over 25000 miles and serviced at the dealership it was purchased from. The battery will drain to less than 5 volts overnight for no apparent reason. Unit is on its second battery and it test fine. The issue is not consistent, sometimes it will happen only after a couple of months, othertimes after a few days between occurances. Its appears when when the car if turned off, something in one of its many computers is not shutting down all the required systems allowing the battery to drain overnight. Short of installing a battery disconnect switch, I', running out of ideas. Neither my wife of I feel safe driving the car, since it may leave us stranded.

The power liftgate has stopped functioning. After changing the alternator because of a voltage regulator error code and replacing the batteries, the power liftgate continues to not work. If the battery is disconnected, when reconnected the power liftgate will work only once. When trying to engage the feature, the liftgate will attempt to unlatch and lift however, the hatch does not open. Fuses have also been changed. the power liftgate feature has to be disabled in order to properly use the hatch. No one has been able to find a correction for this issue with not only the Edge's but its sister model by Lincoln. Many complaints of the liftgate opening and closing on its own. The liftgate not operating properly removes an access point of not only convenience but more importantly safety. If there were an accident, the liftgate not opening properly would not allow for passengers to remove themselves from the vehicle if that were the only exit point in a crash. Outside of the listed inspected components, the only other option is to have the entire electrical system inspected. At the price point this vehicle is offered on the market, many owners would not have the means to pay the dealership or a private repair shop to take apart their entire vehicle.

The rear hatch, yes it's available for inspection. It closed on me while trying to get items out of the back of the SUV. I opened the hatch from the drivers control panel leaving the car running in park, then tried to get items out of the back. While I was under the hatch it closed on me. I was unable to stop it from coming down on my back/shoulder despite pushing back against it with my arms against the floor. I ultimately had to jump into the back of the vehicle where the hatch closed on my foot and locked. I tried to open it again using the push button on the outside of the hatch, it closed again, I was unable to stop it from closing and locking again while trying to lift it from the outside. It did this four times in a row. The only "unusual" thing was that this was during an ice storm. I have tried to reproduce it several times since with no luck, also there are no freezing temperatures now. No, I have not taken it to a dealership yet but will this week. I do not know if there were warning lights since I was in the back of the vehicle, but it did sound the tone that you hear when the lid is closing by its own power luckily which alerted me that it was closing. This has never happened, it closed with force four times, and I was unable to stop it

We had stopped to get a soda and when we came back out and started the vehicle the steering wheel turned 90 degrees so the straight position was now 12 and 6 vs 3 and 9, I tried to shut the vehicle off and restart it and no change in steering wheel position. There was also an adaptive steering error on the dash. Another issue with this was that you could no longer see the speedometer as the steering spoke was covering it, we drove to the closest Ford dealer from where we were and we were told they didn’t have time to look at it on that day. I confirmed with the cashier that they were sending us away with a vehicle with a steering issue and the cashier once again just said they could not look at it on that day which I was not asking them to do I just wanted to leave it and go off in a loaner that I was able to get under the extended warranty. We went to the second ford dealer that was closer to our home and they took the vehicle in and 2 different service writers stated they had never seen anything like this before. they had the vehicle for a total of 3 weeks to diagnosis and replace the steering wheel and try to get the wheel back into alignment which took 2 trips. The second visit we met with the master tech at Ford country who went for a drive with us and could see that the Ford emblem in the center of the wheel was not straight and it took them 2 or 3 attempts to get it straight and the master tech with 35 years of experience stated they had only seen this 1 other time in all their years of working on vehicles. I just do not have confidence in the vehicle any longer and just keep thinking about what if this happened while we were driving and not just in a parking lot. I no longer feel safe in the vehicle

Vehicle began to rough idle, and then while driving the vehicle MIL came on, as well as a "Engine overheat throttle limited" error. Pulled over and vehicle would not move. Tried to power cycle the vehicle and would not start back up. Had it towed to dealer and was told this was the long block coolant intrusion problem that leader to my engine completely failing. I was made aware of Ford TSB 19-2346, and told the repairs would be $9200. After googling around, this is a common problem on these 2018 ford ecoboost engines and Ford obviously knows there is a problem that could cause accidents or engine fires. Luckily my kids were not in the car, otherwise this could have been catastrophic due to the loss of power while driving. I called Ford support and they told me that Ford has no programs to help affected customers. There should be a Recall and Ford should be forced to replace or repair affected engines as this will get someone killed if they lose power or have an engine fire while driving.

My 2018 Ford Edge is equiped with Ecoboost engine and as a result all these problems are occurring: Ford failed to disclose that these vehicles have a defect that causes coolant to leak into the engine’s cylinders, which can cause corrosion, oil dilution and contamination, and engine failure; and failed to disclose these defects create a safety risk, because the lack of coolant created by the leaks causes overheating and can result in the cylinder head cracking, total engine failure, and/or engine fires. Ford dealers have stated that I need a new engine.

I had my 2018 Ford Edge in Gerald Jones Ford Lincoln dealership services department at Augusta, GA on [XXX] (soonest appointment schedule available) due to check engine light turning on that I detected on [XXX] According to their diagnosis, my vehicle is now in need of total engine rebuild/replace. On [XXX], 12 days prior to the check engine light turning on, my vehicle was at the dealership for its regular maintenance (oil change, tire pressure, top off fluid, etc.) that also included a multi-point inspection. There were no engine issues detected on the vehicle 12 days prior. All of a sudden, 12 days later, the vehicle's engine light turned on and now in need of serious repair. This vehicle has less than 40k mileage. I did some research and based on submitted complaints online from other vehicle owners, I became aware that there are known issues to the engine design causing misfires and coolant leaking into the combustion chamber/engine that is specific to my vehicle's make and model. Ford has not issued a recall but many have reported similar if not exact problems I am experiencing. I reached out to the dealership's General Manager on [XXX] regarding my concerns. I also called his number on [XXX] and left a voicemail message. It has been 3 business days and I have not received any email response or callback from the General Manager. When I got into my vehicle one morning after it had been parked outside overnight the panoramic sun/moonroof glass looked like it had big cracks throughout, but initially thought it was just puddled water outlines since we'd had a good rain event overnight. After vehicle dried later that day I still saw the lines and when I investigated I could feel the cracks/crevices in the outer glass but it had not cracked on the inner layer of glass. I am not certain if that cracking happened overnight in the rain and/or night cold temp fluctuations in WI, or whether it had started smaller earlier in the week and hadn't immediately noticed it. I am not aware of any stones or hail hitting it that could have pinpointed the cause & and the repair technicians did not find any indication of an impact point which could have been the starting point. I have been limiting my driving until I get it fixed to ensure it doesn't either crack all the way thru and let moisture inside and cause interier damage or completely break apart and fly off into roadway while I'm driving

Last July my check engine light came on giving us a P0302 code. We had the spark plugs changed. It went away for a week then came back on with the same code. We had the coil packs changed. Same thing. Went away for a week then returned. Now dealership is saying they want $9,000+ to replace time engine for an issue that has been known to Ford since 2010 with this engine.with less than 70,000 miles on it, white smoke is pouring out of my car, the engine is overheating and coolant is leaking. I’m told that this can cause a fire or worse, a wreck. I have children that I transport daily in this vehicle seeing how it’s our only means of transportation and we dont have the money to replace the engine much less buy a replacement vehicle. Ford needs to be held accountable for selling these faulty cars, putting families in danger and fix these issues NOW!!! Why wait for someone to die before they actually take a stand and fix their issue when they know thousands of customers are having the exact same issues. Such a disappointment!

Bought the SUV in April of 2020. Now I am stuck with a vehicle with 20,000 left to pay on and no money to replace the engine. The SUV only has 63,000 miles on it.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,ENGINE
1 complaint
There is an engine defect causing coolant to leak into cylinders on my 2018 Ford edge titanium ecoboost 2.0l turbocharged engine. This is a known safety problem and there have been many lawsuits regarding this issue. I have contacted Ford Corporate and they are only recommending to replace the long block instead of replacing the entire engine. There is potential to have damage to the cylinder heads, piston rods and other crucial parts in the engine which make me feel very unsafe about its future reliability when "only replacing the long block" which really seems like putting a band aid on the problem. They are not willing to spend the time or money to ensure that the vehicle is safe and the problem is properly diagnosed and resolved. This is alarming as it seems they are trying to cut corners in order to save money. Many people have had this problem and I heard from my private mechanic that they do so many 2.0l ecoboost a week at the dealership because of this exact same problem. I think the NTHSA should look into an engine recall. I also have had an open recall on the front brake lines needing to be replaced due to possible failure for over 1 year and Ford has dragged their feet. Please look into my specific case if possible. THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE - STARTED AT 24000+/- AND DRAINED BATTERIES - AFTER REPLACING 4 BATTERIES - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON - DEALER DID PRESSURE CHECK AND ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED! AFTER REPLACEMENT, BATTERY WAS AGAIN DEAD. THEY CANNOT FIND REASON FOR DRAINED BATTERY. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND POTENTIALLY A FIRE HAZARD. I CANNOT GET RELIEF FROM FORD MOTOR - REFUSED TO BUY BACK. VEHICLE WAS PARKED EVERY TIME BATTERY WAS DRAINED.

AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON IN THE CAR. SEAT BELT LIGHT FOR DRIVER'S SEAT DOESN'T ALWAYS TURN ON NOR DOES IT ALARM EVEN WHEN THE SEAT BELT IN BUCKLED OR UNBUCKLED OR IF THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED OR IN MOTION. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE, INITIALLY WAS TOLD THERE MAY HAVE BEEN RODENT DAMAGE AND THAT WOULDN'T BE COVERED BY WARRANTY BUT THEY WOULD CHECK IT OUT. WHEN I RETURNED, I WAS TOLD EMPTY WATER BOTTLES UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT MAY HAVE MOVED A WIRE. SERVICE PEOPLE STATED THAT THE WIRE MAY STILL BE DISLODGED, THEY DIDN'T CHECK THAT. DEALERSHIP (SHEEHY FORD IN GAITHERSBURG, MD) STATED THAT IT WAS MOST LIKELY DUE TO WATER BOTTLES, THEREFORE THEY DIDN'T CHECK TO SEE IF THE WIRE WAS FULLY CONNECTED OR NOT. I FEEL MY CLAIM WAS DISMISSED BY THE SERVICE CENTER AND IT SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY CONCERN. I AM NOT CONFIDENT THE ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED. 4 EMPTY WATER BOTTLES THAT SLIDE EASILY UNDER THE SEAT SHOULD NOT DISLODGE A WIRE. ADDITIONALLY, THE DEALER VOIDED THE TICKET AND DIDN'T SUBMIT MY CLAIM TO WARRANTY. I AM STILL CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE SHOULD I BE INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THEY DID NOT ADDRESS MY SEAT BELT CONCERNS FOR THE DRIVER'S SEAT.

PURCHASED MY FORD EDGE USED FROM FORD DEALER 12/29/2018 WITH 3400 MILES ON IT. IN JANUARY 2019 I WAS DRIVING THRU AN INTERSECTION AND A LADY IN A MINI VAN RAN A RED LIGHT DOING APPROX 35 MPH OR MORE, SHE DID NOT HIT THE BREAKS. SHE HIT MY DRIVERS DRIVERS DOOR AND FRONT DRIVERS FENDER OF MY EDGE WHICH SEPEREATED THE FRONT WHEEL AND SUSPENSION FROM MY CAR, CRUSHED THE DRIVERS DOOR AND EVEN BROKE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM SUPPORTS AMOUNG OTHER THINGS . THE INSURANCE LABELED MY CAR A TOTAL LOSS. I RECEIVED 7 STITCHES, HEAD INJURY AND CONCUSSION. WHY DIDN'T MY AIR BAGS DEPLOY. I HAVE BEEN THINKING A LOT ABOUT THIS THE LAST FEW WEEKS AND IT DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT. HOW CAN A CAR BE TOTALED AT SUCH A HIGH SIDE IMPACT SPEED AND THE SIDE BAG NOT BE SET OFF?

LET ME START BY SAYING YOUR SALES TEAM WAS GREAT, MADE THE CAR BUYING PART OF THIS EASY....MAYBE TOO EASY IN THAT I MADE A QUICK DECISION TO BUY WITHOUT RESEARCHING WHAT COMPLAINTS THERE WERE ABOUT THIS VEHICLE. I AM A HOME HEALTH NURSE AND TRADED MY HONDA ACCORD IN TO YOUR DEALERSHIP AS I NEEDED SOMETHING WITH MORE ROOM TO STORE MY WORK SUPPLIES WHILE STILL MAINTAINING DECENT GAS MILEAGE. I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE DISAPPOINTED IN A NEW CAR. I WAS SO PLEASED WITH THE SERVICE DURING THE PURCHASE. BUT THIS CAR IS NOT WHAT IT IS CLAIMED TO BE. THEY CLAIM 20-29 MPG, WHICH IS WHY I PURCHASED THIS TO STAY WITHIN A REASONABLE GAS MILEAGE. I AM NOT EVEN GETTING 16 MPG!!!! THE CAR BLOWS WARM AIR ALL THE TIME, UNLESS THE AC IS ON. THE AIR ALSO BLOWS A FAINT MOTOR/GAS SMELL. MY REAR WINDOW SQUEAKS WHEN YOU ROLL IT DOWN. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO BE FILLING UP TWICE A WEEK, ESPECIALLY AFTER THE AMOUNT OF MONEY I PAY A MONTH FOR THE LEASE PAYMENT. THEN TODAY, MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND WONT MOVE UP/DOWN FRONT/BACK!!! SADLY, I FEEL I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO MY HUSBAND AND STAYED AWAY FROM A FORD. I HOPE YOU CAN STEER MY A DIRECTION IN WHICH THIS CAN BE ADDRESSED. I ALREADY HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A FORD DEALERSHIP (WHO HAPPENS TO BE A GOOD FRIEND OF OURS), BUT I'M NOT FEELING TOO CONFIDENT AT THIS POINT.

THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE SO WEAK THAT WHEN THE ROAD IS WET AT NIGHT OR WHEN DRIVING NEAR AMBIENT LIGHTING SUCH AS STREET LIGHTS YOU CAN'T SEE ANY MARKINGS ON THE ROAD SUCH AS THE CENTERLINE OF THE ROAD. THERE IS ALSO EXHAUST FUMES COMING INTO THE CAR WHEN DRIVING WITH THE WINDOWS UP OR SLIGHTLY ROLLED DOWN AND WHEN THE CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM IS IN RECIRCULATING MODE. THESE FUMES MAKE ME DIZZY AND CAUSE ME TO HAVE BLURRY VISION. I ALMOST COMPLETELY BLACKED OUT TWICE ALREADY AND I OWNED THIS CAR FOR THREE WEEKS. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT FORD EDGE HAD THESE PROBLEMS AND THE SALESMAN OF COURSE NEVER MENTIONED THEM. THESE PROBLEMS WITH THE EXHAUST HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY UNDER 20 MPH AND AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE RECIRCULATING MODE IS ON WITH OR WITHOUT THE AIR CONDITIONING TURNED ON. I HAVE DRIVEN WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL TOTALLY OFF AND STILL THE FUMES COME INSIDE THE CAR. IT'S AS IF THE BODY OF THE CAR IS CREATING A VACUUM THAT PULLS THE EXHAUST BACK INTO THE CAR BECAUSE I CAN HAVE TO CLIMATE SYSTEM OFF AND THE WINDOWS OPEN AND EXHAUST GETS SUCKED IN. THIS CAR IS S $36,000 DEATH TRAP AND I PAID THE FULL PRICE SO I'M SCREWED.
