TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2000 FOR EXPLORER EQUIPPED WITH DEFINITY DAKOTA A/T TIRES, SIZE: P235/75 R15 A/T (NA). WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER TIRE BEGAN TO SHRED. THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO VISIBLE INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED; HOWEVER, A PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD WHERE THE INSURANCE COMPANY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. PRIOR TO THE CRASH, THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,346 AND THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,870. THE DOT NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

NOW AFTER 6 YEARS. I RECEIVE A NOTICE FROM FIRESTONE ABOUT MY SPARE, BUT WITH THE CONDITION THAT I DRIVE 30 MILES, AND HAVE THE 1 TIRE REPLACED WITH ANOTHER FIRESTONE TIRE. FIRESTONE REFUSED TO REPLACE MY ORIGINAL 4 TIRES, WITH COMPENSATION, AND NOW REFUSES TO REPLACE MY SPARE WITH A TIRE THAT I AM COMFORTABLE WITH........NOT A FIRESTONE! THERE APPARENTLY IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS TRANSMISSION DUE TO ALL THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE AND FOUND THIS TRANSMISSION HAS HAD PROBLEMS FOR MANY YEARS WITH VERY LOW MILEAGE (LESS THAN 150,000) AND PEOPLE FOLLOWED THE SERVICE RECOMMENDATIONS PER FORD MANUFACTURER. JUST ANOTHER FAILURE OF THE GOVERNMENT NOT PROTECTING THE CONSUMER BUT BIG BUSINESS DUE TO JOBS AND TAXES... I HAVE MAINTAINED THIS VEHICLE PER RECOMMENDATIONS SINCE PURCHASE AT 62,000 MILES. 2000 FORD EXPLORER . . I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW FROM DEALER AND I AM DILIGENT WITH UPKEEP. TRUCK HAS 75000 MILES AND RECENTLY THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING BETWEEN 2 ND AND 3 RD GEAR WITH THE RPMS INCREASING TO OVER 5000 RPMS BEFORE IT WILL SHIFT. THE O/D LIGHT STARTS TO FLASH. WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL COMMANDED CONSIDERABLY MORE THROTTLE ON AN INTERSTATE AT 60MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY TOOK OFF AT VERY HIGH SPEED (85+MPH AND ACCELERATING WHEN I FINALLY SHUT THE IGNITION OFF). I ATTEMPTED TO DISCONNECT THE CRUISE CONTROL VIA OFF SWITCH AND USING THE BRAKES TO NO AVAIL. I SHUT THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF AND COASTED TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY. ATTEMPTED A RE-START, AND THE ENGINE APPEARED TO START AT FULL THROTTLE. I RAISED THE HOOD AND FOUND THE THROTTLE CABLE RETAINING HAD BROKEN, AND THE CABLE ASSEMBLY HAD BEEN PUSHED OUT OF ITS BRACKET BY THE CRUISE CONTROL SERVO'S FORCE. ONCE OUT OF ITS BRACKET AND PUSHED TO NEARLY FULL THROTTLE, THE THROTTLE RETURN SPRING HAD HOOKED ON THE BRACKET (SEE ATTACHED IMAGE), PREVENTING A RETURN TO IDLE FROM NEARLY FULL THROTTLE. THE PLASTIC RETAINING TABS ON THE THROTTLE CABLE HAD EVIDENTLY BEEN BROKEN BY THE LONG-TIME FORCE OF THE CRUISE CONTROL, POSSIBLY AGGRIVATED BY YEARS HEAT FROM THE ENGINE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS DESIGN, DEPENDING ON TINY PLASTIC TABS AS THE ONLY BLOCK TO SUCH SUDDEN, UNCOMMANDED VEHICLE ACCELERATION. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT DEFECTIVE, BUT HAD INSTIGATED THE CONDITION MY BREAKING THE THROTTLE CABLE RETAINING TABS OVER TIME. THE ATTACHED PHOTO SHOWS THE DISPLACED THROTTLE CABLE, WITH THE SPRING HOOKED ON THE BRACKET, HOLDING THE THROTTLE NEARLY FULL THROTTLE. THIS COULD EASILY HAVE RESULTED IN A HIGH SPEED CRASH. AS A RETIRED AIR FORCE FIGHTER PILOT AND AIRLINE CAPTAIN, I REMAINED CALM AND WORKED THE PROBLEM STEP BY STEP TO A SAFE CONCLUSION, BUT A LESS DISCIPLINED DRIVER IN DIFFERENT TRAFFIC COULD HAVE LED TO A DIFFERENT AND TRAGIC CONCLUSION. SPARKPLUG SUPER-HEATED AND MELTED LONGITUDINALLY DESTROYING THE OUTERMOST SPARKPLUG THREADS (7 THROUGH THE SEATING SURFACE OF THE SPARK PLUG). INNER MOST THREADS, THE ONES DEEPEST INTO THE HEAD WERE NOT DAMAGED. A SECOND PLUG WAS INSTALLED ALONG WITH A NEW SPARK PLUG WIRE AND WITHIN 20 MILES, THE SPARKPLUG WAS AGAIN MELTED BEYOND SALVAGE AND THE NEW WIRE BURNED UP. DUE TO THE DESTRUCTION OF THE SPARKPLUG, IT WAS ABLE TO BE REMOVED WITHOUT TOOLS AS THERE WERE NO THREADS REMAINING IN THE CYLINDER HEAD. FORTUNATELY THE FIRE DAMAGE (LIKELY FROM THE SPARK OF THE PLUG) WAS LIMITED ONLY TO DAMAGING THE SPARKPLUG AND THE SPARK PLUG WIRE LABLED #3. *TT

THIS IS TO REPORT A FIRE IN A 2000 FORD EXPLORER: ON FRIDAY, 25 NOV 11, 5 ADULTS (MY HUSBAND, 2 SONS, DAUGHTER-IN LAW, AND MYSELF) AND 2 DOGS, LEFT BETHLEHEM PA FOR OUR FAMILY CHRISTMAS TRIP IN OUR 2000 FORD EXPLORER, PULLING A UTILITY TRAILER. THE INTENT OF THE TRIP WAS TO START AT A CHRISTMAS TREE FARM, CUT DOWN 3 CHRISTMAS TREES, HAUL THEM IN THE TRAILER AND CONTINUE WITH SEVERAL OTHER CHRISTMAS RELATED TRADITIONAL STOPS. MY HUSBAND, DROVE APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES NORTH TO BISSELS CHRISTMAS TREE HILL IN LEHIGHTON, PA. HE DID NOT USE CRUISE CONTROL BECAUSE WE WERE PULLING THE TRAILER. THE TRIP WAS FINE WITH ABSOLUTELY NO INDICATIONS THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. IT ALSO HAD NOT HAD ANY SERVICE DONE TO IT RECENTLY (A QUESTION FREQUENTLY ASKED TO US). HE PARKED THE VEHICLE ALONG AN EMBANKMENT AT THE TREE FARM AND WE ALL WERE IN VARIOUS STAGES OF GETTING OUT OF THE CAR WITH THE DOGS WHEN SOMEONE NEARBY YELLED TO US THAT OUR CAR WAS ON FIRE. SHE REPEATED IT AS WE LOOKED TO SEE WHO SHE WAS ADDRESSING. WE LOOKED AT OUR CAR AND SAW THAT UNDER IT, FIRE BALLS WERE HITTING THE GROUND FROM WHAT APPEARED TO BE THE CENTER OF THE ENGINE. MY HUSBAND ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE HOOD AND SMOKE WAS IMMEDIATELY POURING OUT OF THE ENGINE. WE ALL QUICKLY GOT AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. MY ONE SON IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911 AND MY OTHER SON RAN NEARBY TO TRY AND FIND A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE SMOKE QUICKLY TURNED INTO A FULL BLOWN FIRE. THE COMPLETE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, ALONG WITH THE EMBANKMENT NEARBY, WAS ABLAZE. THE MAHONING VALLEY POLICE CAME, THEN THE FIRE CAPTAINS, THEN 2 FULL FIRE TRUCKS FROM LEHIGHTON AND MAHONING VALLEY FIRE DEPARTMENTS. THEY QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED EVERYTHING, ALONG WITH THE VEHICLE WE LOST MY PURSE, JACKETS, AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS VALUABLES THAT WERE ON THE FLOOR OF THE FRONT SEAT AND IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. *TR

WHEN IT WAS AT THE DEALER SHIP THEY TOOK THE VEHICLE APART WITHOUT THE DRIVERS PERMISSION. THE DRIVER CALLED AN INVESTIGATOR FROM THE BUREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THEY USED A DEFECTIVE ENGINE FOR THE 2000 FORD MODELS AND FOUND OUT AFTER A YEAR AND THAT'S WHY THE Y DISCONTINUED USING THAT SPECIFIC ENGINE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93104 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93300.

I was driving slowly (35mph), regular speed limit on that road is 60. Roads were snowy and icy, another vehicle driving extremely fast for the road conditions, started to swerve head on in to my lane, I swerved to avoid a head on collision. In doing so, I hit ice, started doing a 360, the front end and the drivers side door of my vehicle hit an irrigation ditch where it goes under a street, it caught my vehicle on the drivers side and I started rolling. I rolled 3 or 4 times and finally landed right side up. My roof was caved in and resting on the top of my head, shoulder and neck. However, none of my airbags deployed ( see pictures), even though I hit the irrigation ditch head-on. Vehicle can be inspected if needed. The vehicle is totaled as they had to cut the doors off to extract me. I have left head, shoulder, neck, abdomen and leg soft tissue damage since I kept slamming in to the steering wheel with no protection since my air bags did not deploy. I did have my seatbelt on.

WE HAVE A 2000 FORD EXPLORER BOUGHT NEW FROM HOLMAN FORD. THE REAR METAL BRAKE LINE THAT IS MOUNTED ON THE REAR AXLE, CONNECTING BOTH REAR BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON RTE 42 IN NEW JERSEY. The contact veered to the side of the road and manually pushed the hood down several times however, the hood failed to close completely and would not latch securely. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact continued to drive at a slower speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was being diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 99V164000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

ALSO, LEFT REAR PASSENGER DOOR CAN NOT BE OPENED FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. 1) CAN NOT OPEN RIGHT FRONT DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE WITH KEY-FOB OR WITH THE KEY! I REPLACED A RIVOT THAT HOLDS THE LOCKING ACTUATOR WITH A BOLT (RIGHT SIDE FRONT DOOR). 2)I CAN NOT OPEN LEFT FRONT DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE WITH KEY-FOB OR WITH THE KEY! . AFTER REVIEWING A NUMBER OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, I DON'T BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT THAT JEOPARDIZES SAFETY THAT SHOULD BE CORRECTED AT NO COST TO THE OWNER.

I PURCHASED THE FORD EXPLORER XLT IN OCTOBER 2000 AND WITHIN THREE YEARS THE TRANSMISSION WENT OF SERVICE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FORD COMPANY TO SEE WHETHER OR NOT THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE REPAIRED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT OVER 36,000 MILES AND THREE (3) YEARS HAS ELAPSED. I THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AMACO CO. TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WITH MY PERSONAL EXPENSES AT $2,000.00. THEY PROVIDED AT ONE (1) YEAR 12, 000 MILES WARRANTY. WITHIN TWO YEARS THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AGAIN AND I HAD TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER TRANSMISSION COMPANY BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE A WARRANTY ANYMORE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A AUTO SHOP TO SERVICE THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN AND WAS GIVEN AFTER THE REPAIR AN ONE (1) YEAR WARRANTY AT 12,000 MILES. THREE YEARS LATER THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AGAIN IN 2014 AND NOW I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIR FOR TRANSMISSION FAILURE. NOW AGAIN THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND GIVEN A ONE (1) YEAR WARRANTY AT 12, 000 MILES. NOW WE ARE IN 2015, THE TRANSMISSION IS REQUIRING REPAIR FOR THE FOURTH TIME. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN A LEMON FROM THE BEGINNING FIRST WITH THE FIRESTONE TIRES AND NOW WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPAIR THIS VEHICLE, IT IS AT 293,500 MILES. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD COMPANY SEVERAL TIMES TO NO RESOLUTION. FORD COMPANY HAS INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THEY INDICATED THAT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY AND SAFETY MUST DEEM THE VEHICLE TO BE A LEMON, HAVE SUFFICENT CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS AND MOVE FORWARD TO HAVE A NATIONAL RECALL. BASED ON INTERNET FINDINGS THE YEAR 2000 TO 2004 OF FORD EXPLORE'S HAS HAD MANY ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. FORD COMPANY HAS REFUSED TO PERFORM A "GOODWILL" GESTURE ON REPAIRING THIS LEMON. AFTER INFORMING MY MECHANIC, I WAS DIRECTED TO A SPECIALTY SHOP, THAT WORKS ON RADIOS FOR VEHICLES. THREE SECONDS INTO MY PHONE CALL WITH THEM, THEY LET ME KNOW THEY WORK ON UP TO FIVE FORD EXPLORERS A DAY, FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $125.00 TO FIX THIS, THEY ALSO SAID FORD WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS ISSUED A KIT TO "FIX" THESE RADIOS. THIS TO ME SHOULD BE A RECALL. BUT, AS I WAS INFORMED THIS "PROBLEM" IS NOT A DANGER TO THE CONSUMER, SO WE SHOULD PAY OUT OF OUR POCKETS. THE 2000 FORD EXPLORER SUV BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AS THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED. AFTER PULLING OVER AND TURNING THE IGNITION OFF, WE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD. UNDERNEATH THE CAR, FLAMES WERE DRIPPING DOWN FROM THE TRANSMISSION. WE USED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES ON THE GROUND, AND ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE HOOD. I HAD A NEW ONE MADE TO ORDER WITH A 3 INCH INCREASE IN LENGTH. THE BRAKE HOSE ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE IS THE CORRECT LENGTH. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR 5 YEAR AND IT HAS 187,000 MILES DRIVEN. The contact owns a 2000 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that upon pulling into a gas station, both white and black colored smoke began to emit from the vehicle without warning. Before the contact could fully react, the vehicle soon caught fire. The contact managed to pull away from the gas pumps as a gas attendant brought out fire extinguishers that they both used to exterminate the fire. The fire department arrived at the scene; however, the contact was unsure if a fire report was filed. The contact suffered minor scrapes and bruises as a result of the fire but did not seek medical attention. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained at the gas station. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 223,000.

I WAS SOLD A VEHICLE WITH A FIRE RECALL STILL IN EFFECT AND REGISTERED TO THE AUTO DEALER OF AUTO WEST GROUP. THE VEHICLE COME TO FIND OUT HAD WELL OVER 15 SAFETY RELATED RECALLS IN ITS HISOTRY. FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO AQUIRE COPIES OF WHAT I HAD SENT INTO YOUR DEPARTMENT, THE FTC, THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND THE BUREAU OF AUTO REPAIRS. NOW I FIND THAT I AM BEING STONEWALLED AND BEING TOLD THINGS LIKE THEY NO LONGER HAVE ANY RECORDS OF THE PROBLEMS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE STRONG FUMES OF FUEL EMITTING FROM THE EXTERIOR TO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO FURTHER INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL LINE PREMATURELY FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO REMOVED THE FUEL TANK AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE FUEL LINE THROUGH THE FLEX LINE THAT LINKED TO THE FUEL RAILS. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER XLT. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE FACTORY INSTALLED INTERIOR LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING ON AND OFF. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A FAULTY CONNECTION WITH THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. SHE WAS CHARGED $477 PLUS LABOR FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WROTE AND CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, BUT THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED. THE APPROXIMATE DATE OF FAILURE WAS IN NOVEMBER OF 2006. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE ENGINE. SHE STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS AN ENGINE WARRANTY OF 60,000 MILES. HOWEVER, THE DEALER CHARGED HER FOR THIS REPAIR AS WELL. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED ON FEBRUARY 6, 2007. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED HER STATE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE WHO STATED THAT THEY RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD AND THAT SHE COULD SUE FORD IF SHE WISHED. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 57,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

TURN SIGNAL SWITCH NEVER WORKED PROPERLY AFTER 31,000 MI, DASH LIGHTS AND GUAGES FAILED TO WORK CONSISTENTLY OR AT ALL BEGINNING 25,000 MI, REAR WINDOW WIPER NEVER WIPED PROPERLY, HEATER SWITCH BEGAN FAILING AT 36,000 MI. LAST DELIMMA WAS CATALYIC CONVERTER GOING OUT AT 60,000 MI. ALSO, AFTER REPLACEMENT OF TENSIONER, OIL CHANGE HAD BEEN DONE AT SAME TIME. 10 MILES AFTER LEAVING DEALERSHIP, GASKET FELL OFF AND LOST ALL OIL PRESSURE WHILE ENGINE WAS ON. I ASKED DEALERSHIP (COURTESY FORD, POUSLBO WA) TO CHECK FOR DAMAGE, THEY SAID "NO, IT'S FINE, DON'T WORRY." END RESULT, DUE TO ENGINE DAMAGE FROM RECALLED TENSIONER+ TIMING CHAIN, FORD AGREED TO TERMINATE LEASE EARLY. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A FORD AGAIN. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I CONTACTED THE NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE HOTLINE MANY TIMES ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE THESE MATTERS, NEVER GOT A CALL BACK AS PROMISED. DEALERSHIP NEVER FOLLOWED UP ON MY COMPLAINTS AND CONCERNS.

I CAME HOME FROM DROPPING MY SON OFF AT HIS SCHOOL SOCIAL. I HEARD SOME SPARKING NOISE. UNPLUGGED MY CELL PHONE CHARGER. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS AT FIRST. 1 MINUTE LATER I SAW SMOKE AND FLAMES COMING FROM MY HOOD. I JUMPED OUT THE CAR AND CALLED FIRE DEPARTMENT. GUYS FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD PUT FIRE OUT. WHILE THE CONSUMER'S WIFE PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE GAS PEDAL BECAME STUCK AND CAUSED HER TO RUN INTO THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE. THE COLLISION CAUSED $18,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO THEIR HOME. SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP 8 TIMES. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THE RPMS REVVED UP CAUSING THE ENGINE TO RACE. THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE TAIL LIGHTS. THE DEALER/MECHANIC STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, SO THEY COULD NOT REPAIR IT. NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A GAP BETWEEN MY LIFTGATE WINDOW AND MY LIFTGATE WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARCKING SPACE. I FOUND THAT THE POST PULLED OUT OF THE PASSANGER SIDE OF LIFTGATE WINDOW HINGE LEAVING A SMOOTH HOLE IN HINGE AND METAL IN GROVES OF POST. BATTERY KEPT DRAINING AND THE IGNITION CHIMED WITH KEY REMOVED. HEATER BLOWER RAN AFTER IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF AND TOUCH KEY PADS STUCK CAUSING LIGHTS TO STAY ON. ALL OF THESE SYMPTOMS WERE ATTRIBUTED TO A WATER LEAK IN THE WINDSHIELD WHICH LEAKED INTO A ELECTRICAL CONNECTION BLOCK BEHIND DRIVER'S SIDE DASHBOARD CAUSING A SHORT CIRCUIT. THE ELECTRICAL BLOCK MELTED AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO BLOCK AND WIRING AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED. WINDSHIELD WAS REMOVED AND RESEALED TO PREVENT RECURRENCE OF LEAK. *JB

CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND SET THE CRUISE CONTROL AT 75 MPH. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE KEPT ACCELERATING, ALTHOUGH CONSUMER HAD APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. THE CAR WHILE THE DAY BEFORE RAN FINE,BEGAN BY SLIPPING WHILE IN REVERSE. WOULD NOT WORK IN REVERSE SO I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED THE CAR TO DRIVE WHERE IT WOULD NOT GO SMOOTHLY INTO THAT GEAR EITHER. GOING A FASTER SPEED SEEMS TO SOUND BETTER BUT ITS PRETTY SCARY.THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. THERE ALSO IS A SENSOR THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND I DON'T KNOW ITS NAME.. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN CHECKED OUT AND RENDERED PASSABLE BUT I FEAR THAT I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STOP SOMETIMES.IT FEELS UNSTABLE. I AM ELDERLY AND NEED A STABLE CAR TO DRIVE.

THEY CHARGED ME $903.45 TO FIX IT ON AUGUST 30, 2007. ON AUGUST 23, 2008 THE AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I CALLED THE FORD DEALER AND TOOK IT RIGHT IN. WAS TOLD THE PART THEY REPLACED HAD GONE BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. OF COURSE THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PART AND THAT TOOK THREE DAYS. I WAS TOLD THAT WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON THE AIRBAGS DON?T WORK. THIS HAPPENED SIX DAYS BEFORE THE ONE YEAR WARRANTY RAN OUT AND THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY BEEN 4,100 MILES SINCE THE PART WAS REPLACED. THE PART WAS REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME ON AUGUST 27, 2008 UNDER THE ONE YEAR WARRANT PERIOD. THE WORK WAS PERFORMED SO POORLY THAT I HAVE NO FAITH THE AIRBAGS WILL WORK IF I EVER NEED THEM. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALER AND SHOWED THEM THAT THE WIRING FOR THE SIDE AIRBAG WAS POKING OUT THE BACK OF THE SEAT AND THE AIR BAG REALLY WASN'T ON THE SIDE IT WAS MORE OF A BACKSEAT AIRBAG NOW. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAVE TO LEAVE IT WITH THE DEALER AGAIN TO FIX IT. I HAVE SEEN THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE AIRBAGS AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN FORD IS GOING TO STEP UP AND ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM. *TR

Driving at the correct speed limit swerved to avoid hitting deer that ran out into the road hit a covert had seatbelt on airbags came out before that something hit me in side of my right arm it hit my elbow so hard and fast my arm was flung outwards and upwards which broke out the passenger side window the top of my elbow is broken that gave me a large purple bruise I got 2 pretty good size gashes on my arm also one on the bottom of my forearm and on the back side of my arm. MY WIFE QUICKLY GOT OUT OF THE PASSENGER SEAT AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. WE WERE TOLD TO GET FAR AWAY. ON THIS DATE I EXAMINED THE 2000 FORD EXPLORER INTERIOR LIGHT LOCATED ABOVE THE MIDDLE OF THE DASHBOARD IS A TWO LIGHT ASSEMBLY. ONE OF THE LIGHTS WAS OPERATIONAL, WHILE THE SECOND WOULD ONLY OPERATE WHEN THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS JIGGLED, GOING FROM OFF TO ON, TO DIM. THE CONTACT POINTS FOR THE LIGHTS IS A THIN COPPER STRIP WHICH ENCOMPASSES EACH LIGHT. THE STRIP IS FRAGILE AND THE HEAT FROM THE LIGHTS CAUSED THE COPPER STRIP TO SEPARATE AND MELTED THE PLASTIC ASSEMBLY TO MELT INTO THE LIGHT FIXTURE AND CAUSING FAILURE IN BOTH LIGHTS. DRIVER OF 2000 FORD EXPLORER VIN [XXX] WAS DRIVING ON I90 E IN MA AND SET SPEED CONTROL. UPON PRESSING SET/ACCEL BUTTON TO INCREASE BY 1-2 MPH, VEHICLE THROTTLE POSITION STUCK IN ACCELERATING MODE BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO APPROXIMATELY 85 MPH BEFORE BRAKING AND DOWNSHIFTING WAS ABLE TO DECELERATE SPEED. ONLY UNDER EXCESSIVE BRAKING FORCE ON PEDAL WAS VEHICLE ABLE TO BE BROUGHT TO UNDER 50 MPH, AT WHICH TIME THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION WAS PUT INTO PARK JUST TO STOP. DRIVER THEN CALLED 911 AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL SHOP. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE THIS ISSUE IN CONTROLLED CONDITIONS. THE THROTTLE IS FIXED IN ITS SPEED CONTROL POSITION (THIS CAN BE SET TO MAINTAIN SPEED OR FIXED IN ACCELERATE MODE). BRAKING SHUTS OFF THE SPEED CONTROL LIGHT BUT DOES NOT DISENGAGE THE THROTTLE. ONCE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL AND STOPPED THE THROTTLE CAN BE MANUALLY RELEASED BY HAND AND IT SNAPS BACK TO IDLE POSITION. INVESTIGATION HAS REVEALED THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN RECALLED BY FORD UNDER 03S03 (NHTSA 03V280000) FOR A SPEED CONTROL CABLE REPLACEMENT. IT IS APPARENT THIS THIS PART FAILURE HAS OCCURRED AGAIN TO THIS VEHICLE. FURTHER INVESTIGATION WILL TAKE PLACE TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE CABLE IN THE VEHICLE IS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT OR A REPLACEMENT PART. INTERIOR LIGHTS INCLUDING DASH BOARD LIGHTS QUIT WORKING. HEAD LIGHTS AND WIPERS ALL QUIT WORKING IF RADIO IS TURNED ON. WE'VE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND NOW THE FORD DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT THE GAS TANK IS CORRODED, THE BAFFLES ARE BROKEN AND THE AIR INTAKE VALVE IS DEFECTIVE. THIS CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD. I HAVE HAD OTHER CARS FOR 10-15 YEARS AND HAVE NOT HAD A CORROSION PROBLEM WITHIN THE FUEL TANK. I BELIEVE THIS IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE FUEL TANK...HOW CAN I PURSUE THIS MATTER. IN MARCH OF 2004, I TOOK MY 2000 FORD EXPLORER XLT FOR GENERAL SERVICE, THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE FRONT PINION SEAL, AND TORQUE CONVERTER SEALS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THANK THE LORD THAT I TOOK OUT AND EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE WHEN I PURCHASED IT SEPT, 2002. THE REPAIRS WHERE COMPLETED, I ALSO TOOK IT BACK TO MY MECHANIC TO CHECK AND MAKE SURE THE WORK WAS DONE. ON 10/26/04 I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK IN AGAIN FOR WORK TO BE DONE AND THE MECHANIC AGAIN FOUND THE FRONT PINION TO BE LEAKING, ALSO FOUND THAT THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE NEEDED AND THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS CHATTERING. JUST SOME BACKGROUND INFORMATION: THE VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY OWNED BY MY SISTER, WHEN I PURCHASED THE VECHICLE, SHE WAS TURNING IN HER 2 YEAR LEASE. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE OVER IT ONLY HAD 11,681 MILES ON IT. THE FIRST REPAIRS WERE AT 37126 MILES, SECOND TIME MILES WERE 45721 MILES. I ALSO HAVE SEVERAL AREA'S ON THE VEHICLE THAT HAVE RUST. I CAN REMEBER A FEW YEARS AGO WHEN THE 3 MAJOR CAR COMPANIES TALKED ABOUT RUST NOT GOING TO BE A PROBLEM. ONE OF THE PLACES WITH RUST IS ON THE RADIATOR SUPPORT. FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO DECEMBER 5TH, 2004, THE HEAT ELEMENT IN MY 2000 FORD EXPLORER DRIVER SEAT WOULD BECOME PAINFULLY HOT UNDER THE LEFT LEG NEAR THE TORSO TO THE POINT WHERE IT NEEDED TO BE MANUALLY TURNED OFF EACH TIME. IT WAS TURNED OFF AS IT BECAME PAINFUL, AND WE WERE CONCERNED WE WOULD BECOME BURNED AND WOULD THE SEAT CATCH ON FIRE. THE FIRST TIME I HAD A PROBLEM IS WHEN MY CAR WOULDN?T START ON MY WAY TO WORK, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS A FEW DAYS AFTER I GOTTEN IT. SO I TOOK IT IN AND THEY SAID THEY CHECKED THE ENGINE AND TURNED OFF THE LIGHT. THEY TOLD ME I SHOULD HAVE IT SERVICED. SO I DID. THE OTHER TIME I TOOK IT IN, IT HAD DIED ON ME WHILE DRIVING DOWN MY UNCLES APARTMENT HILL. THEY SAID THEY WERE GETTING SOME WEIRD CODES FROM THE COMPUTER OR SOMETHING. THEY SAID THEY WOULD GET ME AN APPOINTMENT WITH FORD. THEN THEY CALL LATER THAT DAY AND TELL ME THEY WILL BRING SOMEONE IN TO LOOK AT THE CAR WHO SPECIALIZES IN FORD MODELS. I NEEDED A CAR SO I HAD TO RENT A CAR WHILE THEY HAD MY CAR IN THE SHOP SO THAT I COULD TAKE MY SON TO THE SITTERS AND HAVE A WAY TO WORK. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 1/03 WITH 39,000 MILES ON IT. 3/03 THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE WENT BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THEN 7/03 THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE SLIPPING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. THIS COST $1,800 TO FIX. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 43,000 MILES ON AT THAT TIME. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THE LEFT REAR WINDOW BEGAN LEAKING DURING THE RAIN. AFTER TWO REPAIRS THE LUGGAGE RACK WAS REPLACED AND THE SEALS AROUND THE WINDOWS WERE REPLACED. THE TAIL LIGHT CASINGS BEGAN TO COLLECT WATER AFTER THE SECOND REPAIR. AFTER CLOSE INSPECTION THE CASE SURROUNDING THE TAIL LIGHTS WERE RUSTED. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES FOR THE LEAKING AND IT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. WATER IS GETTIING INTO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE TAIL LIGHTS. I HAVE ALSO TAKEN THE TRUCK IN 3 TIMES FOR A GRINDING NOISE WHEN BRAKING. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ROTORS AND THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. THE BRAKES CONTINUE TO GRIND DURING BRAKING AT SLOW SPEEDS AS WELL AS FAST BRAKING. THE LIGHTS AND WINDOWS IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE ARE LEAKING TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE SMELLS MUSTY BECAUSE OF THE WATER LEAKS. THE DEALER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE WATER DAMAGE OR THE LEAKING. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL SHORT OUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON THE VEHICLE AND POSSIBLY RESULT IN A FIRE. I HAVE ASKED FOR A REPRESENTATIVE FROM FORD TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND THE DEALER REFUSES. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED THE CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER FOR FORD MOTOR COMPANY. PLEASE PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WITH THIS ISSUE.
