Ford had a recall on a Explorer's roof rack covers...In 2021 the dealer glued down the covers. Over time the glue has gone bad and both roof racks are loose causing concern. I recently found out that there was a fix for this. It was installing Christmas tree push clips into cover to secure them. I recently went to the dealer (Sayville Ford, [XXX] ) and inquired about this and adviser stated not recall on file since it was done in 2021. Both roof rack covers are defective. Structure: Body Recall date 2021-05-04 Recall no. 21V316000 Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Explorer vehicles. The retention pins could loosen and allow the roof rail covers to detach from the vehicle. Hide details Recall consequence A detached roof rail cover can create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. Recall action Dealers will install push-pins and replace any damaged rail clips and roof rail covers, as necessary, free of charge. The interim owner notification letter was mailed on June 22, 2021. Owner notification letters (remedy available) were mailed on October 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at [XXX] . Ford's number for this recall is 21S22. My vehicle never had push pins inserted according to this recall. Please advise on any help in this matter. I wait your response. The a-pillar applique trim, which borders the left and right side of the front windshield of my 2019 Ford Explorer has been under recall since January 2024. I've taken it to Bill Utter Ford in Denton, Texas, on four separate occasions to ask for it to be repaired. Generally stated, every six months since the recall. They tell me its too bad, there are np arts to repair it. Question, how can you all allow 2 years to pass and not force them to do something? On March 29, 2026, the drivers side piece came flying off at 30 miles per hour. Luckily no one was behind me. Now my windshield has no protection trim. Further, I cut my right hand trying to force the broken pieces back in.

Similar to NHTSA Recall Number 24V031, driver's "B-pillar" trim (top edge) has detached and loose, and is only secured in-place by remaining anchors/attachments. In inspecting underlying substrate, it appears that a mechanical anchor is missing AND adhesive exhibits cohesive failure (remainder adhesive on both supporting/underlying substrate and backside of trim.

I am writing to formally report an issue regarding Safety Recall 24S02 on my 2019 Ford Explorer, which is incorrectly shown as completed by Cornerstone Ford in Elk River, Minnesota. This recall involves the exterior A‑pillar trim on 2011–2019 Ford Explorer vehicles and is a documented Ford safety campaign (24S02 / 24V031). According to Ford’s records and Cornerstone Ford’s reporting, Recall 24S02 is flagged as completed on my vehicle on Jun 2025; however, the actual recall repair has never been performed. It appears only on an estimate repair invoice from July 2025, and I have text message correspondence from the dealer dated December 19, 2025, stating that the part had arrived, yet no recall work was scheduled or completed. Notice on Invoice (attached): [Primary]: S100 - RECALL RECALL RECALL - C/S: NO REMEDY AVAILABLE YET-24S02 EXTERIOR A PILLAR APPLIQUE INSPECTION I am unable to take it to a different dealership because it has been flagged as completed. It has been a year and a half since Ford recalled a part and they have yet to replace that part. It’s a year overdue from the timeline they claimed to be ready by.

The bottom part that holds the windshield down is coming off. My windshield sounds like it is going to fly off when I drive. It makes a constant loud noise when driving. This has been an ongoing issue for almost 2 years. Ford told me they couldn’t do anything about it.

[XXX] [XXX] [XXX] ⸻ To Whom It May Concern, My name [XXX], and I am writing to file a formal complaint against Ford Motor Company and multiple associated dealerships for gross negligence, financial harm, and discriminatory practices related to a recall repair that began in 2023 and has yet to be properly resolved. I own a 2019 Ford Explorer, VIN [XXX]. In 2023, I brought my vehicle to Wayne Akers Ford in West Palm Beach due to a torque converter recall. Before the issue was fixed, their transmission technician was fired, and I was redirected to Mullinax Ford. That began a two-year ordeal of being passed around between dealerships, misdiagnosed, and ignored while the original issue persisted. Alpaca Ford on 10th Avenue witnessed the malfunction twice but refused to repair it. I was told by Lenny, the Service Manager, and the Advisor Manager to “monitor the mileage” and report back — a delay tactic that eventually allowed them to deny my repair once the issue persisted at under 30 miles. When I returned with proof, they claimed the warranty had expired. This was caused entirely by their inaction and misguidance. To make matters worse: •I was forced to pay $1,300 for motor mounts that didn’t resolve the issue, despite telling them repeatedly it was unrelated. Ford covered a portion, but I was left to pay $897 out of pocket. •Tim Olsen at Wayne Akers Ford has refused to provide my refund and is now ignoring all calls and communication. •Ford’s corporate customer service has been involved from the beginning and failed to intervene effectively — despite acknowledging the situation. •I recently left a Google review describing my experience at Mullinax Ford, including my repeated denial of loaner vehicles while white customers were offered them freely. After posting the review, I was retaliated against — they refused to continue working on my car and told me to “come pick it up” without completing r INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The transmission was violently jerking when accelerating to get on the interstate. Our Explorer is available for inspection upon request. It was dangerous in that we couldn't have a consistent speed when joining oncoming traffic on the road. The local Ford dealer did confirm the transmission needed replacement. Ford did an inspection on the original transmission and confirmed it was damaged. It was a sudden failure of the transmission and it included a wrench light on the dashboard. We had a rebuilt transmission installed by the local Ford dealer which cost us over $9,400. This is known issue by Ford, especially for the Explorers, but they are not standing behind their powertrains. I contacted Corporate Ford to see about any goodwill, but they were not interested in providing any assistance.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that after shifting to the drive position the vehicle would shake and vibrate. The failure continued while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the torque convert and reprogrammed the PCM but approximately one year later the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the torque converter needed to be replaced a second time. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 83,000.

I have attempted multiple times to report Sync 3 screen issues with this vehicle. Began as intermittent issues. Screen would go off, get hung in reverse, unable to use touch screen, etc. Now, it is completely useless. Not able to use touch screen, not able to connect phone thru Bluetooth (making phone unusable), basically not unusable. I have no access to maps, any controls on screen. There's recalls on Explorers for this exact issue in 2020, etc models, so I am positive this same issue relates to mine. This is a very costly part to repair (we were quoted over $1200.00 by local Ford Dealership My car was barely out of warranty when this issue occured.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed a burning odor. The contact stated that later when the vehicle was started, the back over prevention camera display was black. In addition, several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a wiring harness failure. The contact was informed that the rear wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

I purchased a Ford certified 2019 Ford Explorer recently. It is my 20th Ford. I could barely hear the horn and thought there was a problem with one of the horns. I researched it and found that the 2019 model year only came with one horn. The horn is at the front of the hood and when I checked there was a bracket for 2 horns but there was only one. You almost can not hear it when inside of the car and it makes me think that others may not hear it if there is an emergency. I have owned close to 70 cars and I have never had a car with one horn. A moped has a louder horn. In my opinion Ford should not have tried to save $5 that could cause an accident. I had to order Ford part number GB5Z-13832-A which are the dual horns found on the other model years. My safety and the safety of other 2019 Ford Explorer owners is at risk because of this.

My engine is having to be replaced. It's at 100k miles. Costing me $5k for a replacement that is a used engine with 77k miles and 1 year warranty. I want to file a complaint. Car is still in the shop and I had to get a rental. I am a single mom with two kids. I had to pay all of this out of pocket.

I was putting my car in reverse and all of a sudden, it shifts really hard and makes this loud noise. I thought it was very strange, and put it in drive and went not even 2 minutes and my car had no power. I was pressing the gas pedals but it didn't want to go. I stopped it and called a Tow truck to come get my car and take it to the nearest Ford dealer. They called me in a few days advising that the transmission was gone. After researching online, I noticed a lot of Ford Explorers being recalled for this exact issue, including My sisters Ford Explorer. Hers was under the recall, and Ford paid for hers. Ironic, the same thing happened to mine and mine has no recall. My car had been running fine, up until this day. I have maintained this car and no warning lights ever came on, until I put it in drive and the Orange Wrench cam e on. I knew something was wrong then. 2019 Ford Explorer shutdown at full speed on Florida Turnpike for the second time within 30 days. The first time it was thought that the battery was at end of life. A new battery was installed and thought to be fine however, later the vehicle was unable to start after highway use, requiring waiting to restart. Engine cranks but will not start. Vehicle started then shut down at full highway speed on the Florida Turnpike on July 5th. Car was in unsafe location on highway edge as no other area was reachable. Car cranked but would not start. Turnpike Road Ranger responded, I called for tow and Uber, car eventually started and I drove it to Lorenzo Ford of Homestead FL. Ford has no TSBs on this subject however the internet has multiple videos showing Ford customer’s experiencing the same issue of no start or shutdowns. Please review for similar complaints. I have a very nice unreliable and unsafe car at this point.

Vehicle fails to start intermittently. After having this happen on several occasions and waiting for 1-2 hours it would start. However, the last time, while traveling it would not start after taking brief stop. Had to leave the vehicle overnight and return the next day to haul it back home 300 hundred miles. That was Feb. 23, 2026 and still will not start. Vehicle has 70,000 miles.

Feb 16, 2026
The catalytic converters for the Ford Explorer Utility Police Interceptor fail prematurely, degrading the emissions from the vehicle and causing the vehicle to fail emissions testing. Although Ford has implemented a Customer Satisfaction Campaign 22M06, they do not inform owners of the campaign or potential problem. My car was inspected by two Ford dealerships who simply cleared the error code (P0430) and made no mention of Campaign 22M06. The error code persisted as I replaced numerous other components (spark plugs, purge valve, oxygen sensors, Mass air flow sensor) trying to alleviate the problem over the last year. Only if you mention the campaign specifically will they inspect the vehicle for the purpose of replacing the the catalytic converters under warranty. Replacing these failing catalytic converters should be a recall because failure creates substandard emissions for thousands of vehicles.

Car would not start at certain times without warning. Sometimes putting us in an unsafe location. Finally vehicle was in a public parking and would not start and had to be towed to Ford dealer. The fuel pump and some other issues failed. Repair shop said it would happen with low gas, but we had over a half a tank. Total cost of bill without tow was $2132.02. Vehicle had 45,015 miles.
Jul 14, 2025
On 3 separate occasions my car has stalled when driving. All three were after driving for several hours in hot weather. 2 of the times I had a quarter of a tank of gas and pressed on the gas to pass someone and my car stalled out immediately after. Both very dangerous scenarios. 3 time just this week. Driving for over 5 hours in hot weather conditions, but 3 quarters of a tank of gas and stuck in traffic and the car just completely stalled. Again a dangerous scenario on the highway. All three times after waiting for about 45 minutes the car will start again. Sluggish at first and then drives normal. It’s giving indications that it could be a defect in the low pressure fuel pump that has been a recall in other 2019 ford explorers, but my vin #is not listed as one of them.

Rear left toe link failed while entering a curved freeway on ramp. Failure caused the vehicle to lose traction in the rear causing the vehicle to fish tail. Advanced drivers training prevented a collision but the vehicle swayed back forth due to the forward momentum. In February I was driving to an appt. when the side panel on driver's door broke & started flying around & hitting car. (It has the numbers to enter the car without a key.) So I had to roll down window 1/2 way, grab the broken part & drive 18 miles to town, holding the part so it wouldn't fly off (in 30 degree weather!) So I drove by the Ford Dealership where I got my car. They thought there was a recall on that item so I've been waiting. I just saw on the NHTSA site there was a recall for that item on 2016-17? Explorers, but mine is 2019!!! Would you please add the 2019 model to that recall? Also, I'm STILL WAITING (1 1/2 years later) for the recalled trim pieces around the front windshield.

EXTERIOR A-PILLAR TRIM PART DETACHED, NOW CAUSED CRACKED WINDSHIELD WHERE TRIM WOULD HAVE BEEN. THE PART HAS BEEN DETACHED FOR MONTHS AND MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP HAS NO TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT SOLUTION. MY WINDSHIELD NOW HAS A SPIDERING CRACK WHERE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN PROTECTED .
Jul 22, 2024
The B-pillar trim piece has become detached from the vehicle due to broken clips and when driving it appears as if it will fall off. Ford will not address the issue, other then using two sided adhesive tape which needs to be replaced continuously. The clips that hold the trim in place are broken and this is common on many explorers. There are other body trim pieces which have been recalled for and this needs to be added as well. The A-pillar trim was recently a recall item and this is just as much a hazard.

The B post on the driver side flew off while driving. This is has been an ongoing issue. Ford has fixed them before and they keep causing issues on both the driver and passenger side. The exterior panel does not stay connected to the truck. It flew off at highway speeds, causing the air and rear tailgate to malfunction after it pulled a wire out. This is a huge safety issue ford refuses to acknowledge.

I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding my 2019 Ford Explorer, which is currently subject to the 2011–2019 Ford Explorer — A-Pillar Trim Detachment Recall (Recall Reference Number: 24S02). The exterior A-pillar trim on my 2019 Ford Explorer, covered under the aforementioned recall, has caused severe issues including vibrations and a loud whistling noise around the windshield area, particularly at highway speeds. These problems are not only a nuisance but also pose a potential safety hazard, as the vibrations could lead to more severe structural damage or detachment of the trim while driving. I have contacted several Ford dealerships in my area, as well as Ford headquarters, seeking a resolution under recall 24S02. Unfortunately, I was consistently informed that the necessary parts to correct the issue are not available. I was told that Ford had provided the parts, but they were only available for a two-week period and are no longer in stock. The person I spoke with at the dealership advised me to call back at a later time to check if the parts are available. Additionally, when I reached out to Ford’s headquarters customer relations department for further assistance, I was simply transferred to my local dealership without any other form of help or guidance. This lack of support from the manufacturer is deeply frustrating and concerning. Furthermore, one of the dealerships informed me that another customer with similar issues under the same recall has been waiting for over a month and has yet to receive the necessary parts. This delay, coupled with the lack of clear communication and guidance, is highly concerning, especially given the potential safety risks associated with the defect. Given the severity of the issue and the inadequate response from Ford, I am requesting that the NHTSA intervene to ensure that Ford takes the necessary steps to resolve this safety concern promptly. I am concerned that a serious incident can occur if not resolved.

I was traveling on the interstate (~75 mph) when the rear of my vehicle suddenly jerked to one side with enough force to cause a loss of control. There were no lights or warning sounds to indicate that there was anything wrong with the vehicle in that moment or leading up to it. I was fortunate enough that no contact was made with any other vehicles as my car crossed all three lanes; from the center lane to the far right and then back across all three lanes to the far left. The car skidded off the highway and slid onto a sloped embankment before it stopped. Obviously, I or someone else could have been seriously injured or even killed. I was able to drive the car back up on the shoulder of the highway. Everything was functioning properly EXCEPT the steering. I was able to drive at ~15 mph to the nearest exit. I was then towed to my mechanic's shop. The tow truck driver said it looked like my right rear tire was about to "fall off" and that I was very lucky. My mechanic took pictures of the damaged part (Right Rear Toe Arm) both on the vehicle and again once removed. He checked with Ford for a recall and found out that this part had been part of a recall on Explorers from 2012-2017, but not on the 2019. Assuming the part had been redesigned after 2017, he ordered a replacement for the right. (The Left Toe Arm was not damaged.) However, once the replacement part arrived, it was a completely new design from the 2019 Toe Arm. He recommended I replace the Left Toe Arm as well since the parts were so different. My right shock absorber was also damaged in the accident and had to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, several messages indicating that the hill descent control system, the ABS system, and road stability control system had failed were displayed. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. Additionally, a message stating that the Forward Collision Avoidance warning system had detected a fault or obstruction, was displayed intermittently, causing the brakes to apply independently. The contact pulled to the side of the road. The contact stated upon turning off and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated as needed; however, the failure reoccurred while driving a long distance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, Franklin’s Spring Creek Ford (220 W Main St, Colquitt, GA 39837), who received remote assistance from Ford engineers, but was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 36,066.

I saw an article about the a pillars coming off while driving and wanted to report my story/experience with this problem vehicle! I pay wayyyy too much for this vehicle to be a 2019 and still have low miles (46,700) for it to be such a safety hazard for my family, I definitely expected more for such a big first Ford purchase. Very very disappointed. I don’t have all the receipts together right now to take pictures at this time but they are at my house if needed. -the a pillars have flown off the vehicle while driving down the freeway even after being fixed, even most recent fixes will not completely stay down and could still come off again. This has led to the window trim being ripped off with them and it all causing wind issues and allows stuff to catch on the windows while driving or build up underneath for weather conditions. -there is something within the vehicles power train that will not take alignments and has a very bad shimmy/sway within the wheels while driving. This is very very unsafe at any speed but quite bad at highway speeds, especially with wind because of the a-pillars issue. The way it moves while driving it feels like you’re not in control of the vehicle. Multiple alignments have been attempted, tire swaps and brand new ones have been put on and it continues to get worse. Nobody can figure out what’s causing this. -there are some electrical and heating shortages within the vehicle and intermittently these futures will glitch out and won’t work. Sometimes the display screen won’t come on or shut off, sometimes all the wipers will stop mid swipe and not fully stay down, sometimes the mirrors won’t adjust, some sensors barely work, there are times the seat warmer doesn’t work or does partially, the floorboard heat will only put out cold air unless it’s on auto and high, some lighting functions glitch out, same with the radio, sometimes the auto start don’t work, sometimes the seat positions will stop in mid move and won’t reposition

When I took a left hand turn coming from a stop-sign the control arm on my front right passenger side busted. I did not hit anything or cause the damange instead this was in part of failure of the product. I was traveling approximately 3 mph on a flat surface with no traffic exiting an industrial park. Because the control arm broke, it caused significant other damage to my vehicle due to the inability to steer my vehicle and the wheel to no longer be controlled by the steering wheel. There were no warning signs and nothing to signal to me that my car was in fact having issues. If I would have been traveling on the hwy during this incident chances are I would have been severally hurt or even killed. I had just dropped off my husband and child at an event where we were traveling on a hwy. Luckily I was traveling at a slow speed during this incident and nobody was injured. The vehicle has been inspected and based on the significant damage (fender, door, mechanical) there has been nothing but challenges getting the issues fixed. My car is still covered under warranty because it's new however between my car insurance and the warranty nobody wants to help cover the cost of the damage that was cause at no fault of my own. Finally, this is a known issue with Ford vehicles. Research shows many, many other complaints just like mine where faulty control arms are breaking at no fault of the driver. As a matter of fact, 3 days ago there was the same incident at a round-about where another Ford Explorer was sitting in the middle with it's control arm broken. Same issue, same scenario.

Clip on horn cover that secures the driver air bag was coming apart, if not repaired may have caused an accident by inflating the air bag by a bump in the road or any other sensing that causes the air bag to engage, including honking the horn. on the interstate could have been catastrophic. To the driver, the horn cover could have discharged to the face without notice. The vehicle was taken to Dick Smith Ford in Columbia SC and after a long consideration by Ford Motors the steering wheel and air bag was replace at cost to me of $156.53. The vehicle had 24,000 with very light driving miles and little to no honking. Had not a mechanic at a local tire store took note, this possible tragic failure would have done some irrevocable harm to driver, occupants of vehicle and other in proximity of vehicle safety failure.

1. The vehicle HORN unknowingly and unexpectedly stopped working, became unavailable, and subsequently failed to alert other of hazardous conditions, when approperiately initiated by the driver/operator. Without any indication or prior warning to the driver that the HORN was NOT FUNCTIONAL. This vehicle can be made available for NHTSA inspection upon request. For all intensive purposes, the only unique purpose for having a vehicle HORN is for SAFETY. 2. SAFETY was compromised and reslted in highly eleveted risks for the Driver, Passangers, Pedestrians, Traffic Officers, By Standers, Other Vehicles and Congestion, following a Night Time Egress of an NFL Football Game. 3. The problem is repeatable and the HORN is currently in a FAILED state. The HORN has not been diagnosed or repaired. It has not been confirmed, by the Dealer, nor Independent Service Center. WHY? For them to bill me some ungodly amount, just to tell me, my the HORN DOES NOT WORK.. ON a vehicle I financed/purchased 4 months ago? and that I paid $200 last month for a FAILED BATTERY last month. Good LORD, and on a vehicle with more automated driver assist sensors, than a MARTIAN LAND EXPLORER? and the HORN FAILS? For SAFETY, HORNS are intentionally "enabled" and maintained in fuctional state. Note: AUTO OWNER has reported this SAFETY DEFECT to NHTSA. Owner requests all costs of diagnosis, parts, replacement, labor, repairs, wiring, computer, software, and the transparent identification of flaws in automatic updates via internet and wireless, connectivity, software updates, digital processing of vehicle operating systems, and digital monitoring of driving conditions, location, and environment. 4. No. It has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance reps, or others. Yet. 5. No warning lights, messages, or indicators prior to non-functioning and unexpected HORN failure. I would like to request independent NHTSA inspection Root Cause Analysis. Thank You

NOTICED SEVERE EXHAUST SMELL WHEN DEFROST IS ON WHILE DRIVING, AND MORE MODERATELY WHEN THE RECIRCULATED AIR IS ON. LOOKED UP THE ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND THAT OUR 2019 FORD EXPLORER IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES THAT CAUSED A SOFT RECALL FROM FORD FOR THEIR 2011-2017 MODELS. TOOK IT TO LOCAL FORD SERVICE CENTER, BUT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, THE TECH AT FORD SERVICE CALLED THEIR HOTLINE, WHO STATED "REAR AIR VENTS WERE LOOSE CAUSING THIS CONCERN". FOLLOWING THIS CALL, FORD SERVICE CENTER DID THE FOLLOWING (ALL QUOTES ARE FROM SERVICE INVOICE): "REMOVED REAR BUMPER COVER AND INSPECT[ED] AIR EXTRACTORS. INSPECTION FOUND BOTH EXTRACTORS WERE NOT CONNECTED ON THE LEFT REAR CORNER OF BOTH SIDES, LIKE THEY ARE BROKEN WILL NOT PROPERLY SEAT. INSPECTION ALSO FOUND LIFTGATE DRAIN VALVE WAS MISSING AND LR TAILLAMP GROMET WAS NOT SEATED TO THE BODY. REPLACED BOTH EXTRACTORS AND DRAIN VALVE, RESEATED LR TAILLAMP BODY PLUG, REINSTALLED REAR BUMPER AND TEST DROVE." WE HAVE NOT NOTICED THE EXHAUST SMELL SINCE THE FIX ONE WEEK AGO. I AM REPORTING THIS SO THAT NHTSA AND ANYONE READING THIS KNOWS THAT THE FORD EXHAUST ISSUES THAT CAUSED SO MANY PROBLEMS ARE STILL ONGOING THROUGH THE 2019 MODEL, AND ALSO SO THAT CONSUMERS WHO HAVE THIS MODEL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO TELL THEIR LOCAL FORD SERVICE CENTERS TO DO TO FIX IT.
