THE TRANSMISSIONS HAVE A PROBLEM AND HAVE HAD A PROBLEM FOR YEARS. THEY CAN FAIL WITHOUT NOTICE AND CAUSE A VEHICLE TO LOSE MOMENTUM WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. YES THIS IS AN OLDER VEHICLE BUT IF YOU LOOK UP OLDER COMMENTS ON THIS VEHICLE ON OTHER REPORTING SITES THERE ARE MANY REPORTS OF TRANSMISSIONS CAUSING SERIOUS PROBLEMS. WHY HAS THIS NEVER BEEN DEALT WITH IN ANY MANNER? I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE IN GEAR AND GET IT TO THE SHOP. I PAID TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND IT DID IT AGAIN IN THE NEW TRANSMISSION. I ALMOST DID NOT MAKE IT UP THE HILL NEAR MY HOME AND HAVE BEEN FORCED TO PARK THE VEHICLE AS IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.

I WAS TURNING FROM TURNING LANE INTO WAL-MART AND WHEN I GAVE IT GAS THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND WOULDN'T MOVE. LUCKILY NO CARS WERE COMING AND IT FINALLY KICKED IN AND LET ME PULL INTO THE PARKING LOT. I JUST BOUGHT THIS AND WAS LOOKING UP THE ISSUE AND FOUND OUT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH FORD EXPLORER 2002 - 2006. WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS? THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!

I PURCHASED A 2006 FORD EXPLORER, EDDIE BAUER. I NEEDED THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AND PAID AAMCO ALMOST $4,000. NOT EVEN A YEAR LATER THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND HAD TO BE RE-BUILT AGAIN BUT IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. BACK IN MARCH 2019, I TOOK IT BACK TO AAMCO AND WAS TOLD NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. AUGUST 2019, I WENT BACK TO AAMCO AND THEY REPLACED THE SOLENOID PACK IS WHAT I WAS TOLD. NOW, NOT EVEN A MONTH LATER THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED AGAIN. THE SUV JERKS WHEN PLACED INTO GEAR AND IT FEELS AS THOUGH SOMEONE REAR ENDED ME. THE TRANSMISSION IS FAULTY BY THE MANUFACTURER, FORD! THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION OF THIS YEAR EXPLORER WITH THE SAME ISSUES AND FORD WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY! IT'S NOT RIGHT THAT CONSUMERS HAVE TO SHELL OUT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON THIS PIECE OF JUNK THEY MANUFACTURED WHICH CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS! SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE.

WHEN THE CAR IS PUT IN REVERSE AND YOU GIVE IT GAS, IT SHIFTS REALLY HARD AND JERKS AND SLIPS. I THINK THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS LEAVING WORK AND PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE TO LEAVE THE PARKING LOT.

LATE NOV 2016 TOOK IT IN DUE TO THE HEAT WAS FLUCTUATING, WAS TOLD IT NEEDED THE THERMOSTAT AND HOUSING REPLACED (EVEN THOUGH IT HAD THE RADIATOR REPLACED A FEW YEARS EARLIER), ALSO HAD BRAKES & ROTORS DONE, THE 100,000 MILE CHECKUP SAID ALL WAS GOOD. A WEEK LATER THE EXHAUST FLUTE, ETC BROKE LOSE, GOT THAT REPAIRED & $2,000 LATER, FRIDAY 2/03/17 WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, THEN ENGINE LIGHT, VEHICLE SEEMED TO LUNGE FORWARD, DELAY, DOESN'T ENGAGE..ACCELERATE, FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS HANGING AND THEN SLAMS INTO GEAR. I BOUGHT MY FIRST FORD EXPLORER ALMOST 8 YEARS AGO. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND FELT VERY SAFE DRIVING MY NEWBORN SON. I TOO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS I WAS COMING TO A FOUR WAY INTERSECTION. AS I WAS DRIVING ALL OF A SUDDEN A WRENCH TOOL CAME UP AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE SO I HAD TO PULL OFF IN A PARKING LOT BEFORE I GOT TO THE INTERSECTION. I DID NOT WANT MY VEHICLE TO STALL AND I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND LET IT SIT THERE. I THEN TOOK IT OUT OF NEUTRAL AND STARTED IT BACK UP. WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE WILL DISPLAY POOR PERFORMANCE, ERRATIC RPM'S, LOOSE POWER, AND EVEN STALL. ALL INDICATIONS POINT TO THE ETB; CODES AND MECHANIC EXPERIENCE SUGGEST REPLACING ETB, ONLY TO HAVE SAVE ISSUE ARISE AGAIN IN TWO TO THREE MONTHS, IF NOT WEEKS, OR EVEN DAYS, AFTER REPLACEMENT. OFTEN, BUT NOT ALWAYS, THE "WRENCH" ICON (LIMP HOME) TURNS ON, AND, OFTEN, HOWEVER, NOT ALWAYS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. A RESTART OF VEHICLE, THE "WRENCH" ICON TURNS OFF, AND VEHICLE WILL DRIVE, HOWEVER, CONTINUES TO PERFORM POORLY. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR IT WOULD NOT GO. NUMEROUS LOUD CLICKING WAS HEARD AND THE SHAKING CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MOVE SLOW AND I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF FOR ABOUT 7 MINUTES. I RESTARTED VEHICLE AND ABS LIGHT, CLICKING ANG VIOLENT LEFT TO RIGHT SHAKING CONTINUED. THE FORD DEALERSHIP WAS A BLOCK AWAY AND I PROCEEDED TO DEALERSHIP AT ABOUT15-20 MILES PER HOUR. AS I PROCEEDED THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY THE RSC LIGHT. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS I WAS IN TRAFFIC. THE DEALERSHIP REPORTED THAT IT WAS AN ABS TONE RING THAT CAUSED THE MALFUNCTION AND THAT FOR SOME REASON THE CLUSTER AND COMPASS HAD MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING THE OTHER LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE. THE TOTAL COST IS$1300.00 FOR REPAIR AND THIS WAS OVER TWO WEEKS AGO STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED VEHICLE. I HIGHLY SUSPECT THAT THE RELATED CLUSTER MALFUNCTION IS RELATED TO SUPPOSED TOE RING MALFUNCTION AS DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN VERY IFFY ABOUT THE REPAIR AND HAVE AVOIDED MY PHONE CALLS REQUESTING UPDATE. THEE HAVE BEEN ONGOING ISSUES WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM DATING BACK TO 2009 FUEL SYSTEM SOLENOID AND VENT. IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED AT LEAST THREE TO FOUR TIMES FOR THE EXACT SAME REPAIR AND THE SAME PARTS EVERY TIME. THE FUEL SYSTEM DOES NOT ALLOW THE GAS TANK TO BE FILLED AT A NORMAL RATE. IT TAKES AS LONG AS 45 SECONDS SOMETIMES TO PUT ONE (1) GALLON OF GAS IN THE TANK. IT CAN TAKE WELL OVER 10 MINUTES TO FILL THE GAS TANK SOMETIMES. I DISCOVERED A LEAK IN THE RADIATOR AFTER NOTICING THAT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEEDLE WAS BOUNCING AROUND AT AN IDLE. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND STARTED STEAMING. WE ENDED UP HAVING TO HAVE THE RADIATOR REPLACED AT A COST OF $600. (IT WAS ALSO OVER 90 DEGREES THAT DAY AND I WAS STRANDED WITH TWO SMALL CHILDREN, THE YOUNGEST WAS 4 MONTHS OLD.) THEN ABOUT A MONTH AGO, IN MAY 2012, I WAS AT A GROCERY STORE AND WHEN I WENT TO ENTER THE VEHICLE I NOTED A LARGE PUDDLE OF ANTIFREEZE ON THE GROUND AND IT WAS DRIPPING FROM THE RADIATOR. WE HAD TO HAVE THE RADIATOR REPLACED, AGAIN AT A COST OF $600. THE SAME MECHANIC REPAIRED IT BOTH TIMES AND SAID IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE AS THE FIRST ONE. NOW WE ARE HAVING TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING FROM THE COOLING LINE THAT LEADS FROM THE TRANSMISSION TO THE RADIATOR. THESE INCIDENTS HAVE CAUSED US SERIOUS HARDSHIPS FINANCIALLY AND COULD HAVE CAUSED PHYSICAL INJURY DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT WAS EXTREMELY HOT OUT ON BOTH OCCASIONS AND I HAD SMALL CHILDREN WITH ME MILES FROM HOME. I HAVE ALREADY CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY HAVE DECLINED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I AM REQUESTING, AS ARE MANY OTHERS, THAT A RECALL BE ISSUED. I HAVE A 2006 FORD EXPLORER XLT AND THIS WILL BE THIRD TRANSMISSION TO GO INTO THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, I HAVE REPLACED THE RADIATOR THREE TIMES AND AN ENGINE BLOCK SEAL. THESE ARE VERY COSTLY FIXES FOR A CAR THAT IS ONLY A COUPLE OF YEARS OLD. 1. THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE ARE SIMPLE. IT WAS A QUIET SATURDAY AFTERNOON (4:30 PM ON 7/18/09). I WAS ON A TWO WAY STREET ON THE WAY TO MY SWEETHEART'S HOUSE IN OVERLAND PARK, KS . I WAS GOING AT ABOUT 25 MPH. THERE WAS ONE OTHER CAR IN MY VISION ABOUT 75 FEET BEHIND ME. NO ONE WAS COMING AT ME. TO MY RIGHT WAS AN EMPTY BASEBALL DIAMOND FOR THE LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL AND TO MY LEFT WAS A LARGE ( AT LEAST 10 FEET TALL) CONCRETE WALL ENCLOSING AN UPSCALE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT. 2. WITHOUT WARNING I HEAR AN EXPLOSION FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY SHATTERING GLASS FROM MY SUNROOF CASCADING DOWN UPON ME. THE EXPLOSION WAS JUST THE SOUND OF THE SUNROOF SHATTERING. FORD APPARENTLY KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND HAS A SOFTWARE FIX IN PLACE THAT YOU MUST PROACTIVELY CONTACT THEM ON...IN OTHER WORDS, YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM ON THE ROAD AND CALL THEM BEFORE THEY WILL DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT OCCURS EVERYTIME WE DRIVE THE CAR, HOWEVER, IT IS NOT CONSISTENT WHEN IT OCCURS OR HOW OFTEN...AT TIMES IT HAPPENS THE ENTIRE TIME THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT YOU CAN BE DRIVING 10MPH OR 70MPH AND WHEN YOU HIT THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR ENGINE WILL REV UP MUCH LIKE YOU WERE SITTING IN NEUTRAL (I.E. HE SAID IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON MANY TYPES OF VEHICLES AND REPLACEMENT PART OF SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT DESIGN IS $10-20 & EASILY INSTALLED. THIS HAPPENED TO OUR 2006 FORD EXPLORER (EDDIE BAUER EDITION, V8 4WD). THE REAR LIFTGATE GLASS EXPLODED INTO A MILLION TINY PIECES WITH NO EVIDENCE OF EXTERNAL TRAUMA. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AT THE TIME AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOVE FREEZING (LOW 40S) AND IT WAS NOT IN THE SUN. APPROXIMATELY HALF THE GLASS WAS SCATTERED ACROSS THE DRIVEWAY - 10+ FEET AWAY. THE REST OF THE GLASS WAS IN THE BACK OF THE SUV. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS AROUND WHEN THIS HAPPENED - AND WE WERE NOT DRIVING THE CAR AT THE TIME. ON MY 2006 EXPLORER I AM UNABLE TO FILL THE TANK WITH GASOLINE. IT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY BACKS UP THE FILL TUBE AND TURNS THE FUEL PUMP OFF. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT FUEL TANK FILLING ISSUES SINCE THEY ISSUED AN INTERNAL TSB IN 2007. PROBLEM CAUSES FUEL TANK TO FILL WITH PRESSURE, AND NOT ACCEPT FUEL. AS A RESULT, FUEL IS SPRAYED ALL OVER VEHICLE AND THE PERSON FUELING VEHICLE. WE HAD VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS NUMEROUS TIMES, AND STILL HAVING FUEL TANK ISSUES. THERE ARE "UNCOUNTABLE" NUMBERS OF FORD EXPLORER OWNERS THAT I HAVE FOUND ON THE INTERNET, THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, AND THEY DO NOT KNOW THAT FORD KNOWS THE REASON FOR THIS FAILURE. MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER IS RANDOMLY ACCELERATING AND STALLING. I AM ON THE ROAD ALOT AND IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED A FEW ACCIDENTS. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON BUT RESETS ITSELF. IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY AND I WAS INFRONT OF AN AUTO ZONE. I STOPPED IN AND LEFT THE CAR RUNNING. I HAD THE ASSOCIATE COME OUT TO TEST IT AND THE CAR WAS STALLED. HE TESTED IT AND IT HAD 5 CODES ALL OF THEM RELATING TO THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. SO I GOT HOME LOOKED ONLINE AND LOW AND BEHOLD THERE ARE A WHOLE SLEW OF COMPLAINTS ON THE NET ABOUT PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT SAFE. THE TRUCK JOLTS WHEN SHIFTING GEARS TO REVERSE AND DRIVE, I FEELS LIKE A CAR RAN INTO ME FROM THE BACK. I BOUGHT A 2006 FORD XLT EXPLORER WITH APX. 17,000 MILES. I HAD IT FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS IT HAD ABOUT 19,000 MILES. Hi, I purchased my 2006 ford explorer in 2019 from a mechanic lot. Since then I’ve changed the muffler, all 4 of the o2 sensors. Recently, after changing parts like the cylinder, spark plugs and wires as well as another set of o2 sensors and the EGR Valve, Mass Air flow sensor and the EGR sylenoid valve I have been getting check engine light with the emissions code not passing inspection. At this point my registration is at hand and the mechanics that change the parts can’t seem to understand why the check engine light did not go off. However an additional code came on in regards to the heater. As per PEP Boys mechanic shop and Auto Zone the emissions keep failing and may need a new computer- however when a part is removed the computer is able to pick that up issuing out another code. Complete failure of the powertrain electrical harness. Heat degradation to wire insulation has exposed all conductors. Several other owner operators have experienced the same issue wherein the Dealer has attempted repair of existing trouble codes, by replacing sensors, modules and components. Problems range from vehicle shut-off at speed, vehicle fires, no-start and failed PCM modules due to short to power or short to ground. Based on my findings, this specifically impacts vehicles ranging from 2006-2010, Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer with the 4.0L SOHC engine.

DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY I-95 IN FLORIDA. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MISS AS WE ACCELERATED. WE TOOK THE CAR INTO A FORD DEALER SERVICE FOR PLUG REPLACEMENT. THIS AUTO HAS A 4.6 LITRE V-8 ENGINE. WE WERE AMAZED TO FIND THAT IT WILL COST UPWARDS OF $1000.00 TO REPLACE 8 SPARK PLUGS. THAT COST ESCULATES IF ANY PLUGS ARE BROKEN. THE PLUGS ARE TWO PIECE CONSTRUCTION AND SEPARATE ON REMOVAL. ONLY FORD CAN REMOVE THE PLUGS AND MORE WILL BE CHARGED FOR ANY BROKEN. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE THESE PLUGS WITHOUT BREAKAGE. FORD RECOMMENDS NOT CHANGING THE PLUGS UNTIL 100,000 MILES. BY THAT TIME YOU ARE OUT OF GUARANTY AND IF THEY ARE HARD TO COME OUT AT 60,000 MILES IMAGINE IF THEY ARE LEFT IN. THESE PLUGS ARE KNOWN TO BLOW OUT OF THE HEAD AND I AM SURE THERE ARE MANY ACCIDENTS. I AM A DISABLED VETERAN 83 YEARS OLD AND A MECHANICAL ENGINEER. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT EXPLORER FROM PARK TO REVERSE THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT ENGAGE FOR 5 TO 10 SECONDS WHEN IT FINALLY DID ENGAGE THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE THAT SOUNDED AS IF THE TRANSMISSION FELL OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE LUNGED WITH GREAT FORCE. WITH ONLY 86,000 MILES OUR FORD EXPLORERS TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED ONCE AGAIN. WHEN WE HAD 23,000 MILES ON OUR VEHICLE WE NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING RATHER HARD AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. AT 58,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGEMENT WAS SO ROUGH THAT WE HAD TO GET IT REPAIRED. SINCE THE WARRANTY IS ONLY UP TO 36,000 WE DECIDED OUR BEST BET IS TO NOT TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. WE HAD THE VALVE BODY REPAIRED AND IT RAN FINE UP UNTIL NOW. 86,000 MILES AND THIS VEHICLE IS ONCE AGAIN AT A REPAIR SHOP HAVING THE TRANSMISSION FULLY REBUILT. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN JERKING WHEN I AM GOING SLOW TO THE POINT AS IF SOMEONE HIT ME IN THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS A VERY STRONG JERKING SENSATION ENOUGH TO FRIGHTEN ANY REASONABLE INDIVIDUAL. IT ALSO HAS BEEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE WHEN MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND NOT IN CRUISE CONTROL WHILE GOING WELL BELOW THE MINIMUM SPEED NECESSARY TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE AUTO ACCELERATION WAS WHILE AT 10 MILES PER HOUR OR LESS AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THIS HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE FREQUENT AND I AM WORRIED IT COULD BE THE COMPUTER, THE TRANSMISSION, THE ENGINE, OR A CONTROL SYSTEM NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I NOTICED A YELLOW FLUID LEAKING FROM THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT THE ANTIFREEZE WAS LEAKING FROM SOMEWHERE IN THE MANIFOLD, PROBABLY THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING. WE REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING AND BRAND NEW O-RINGS AND ADDED SILICONE SEALANT AROUND THE AFFECTED AREAS. WE ARE STILL SEEING THE LEAKING. I HAVE SEEN THIS COMPLAINT NUMEROUS TIMES AND IT IS TIME THAT FORD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PLASTIC PARTS THAT ARE CONNECTED TO THE ENGINE. FORD MUST USE METAL PARTS TO REPLACE THESE FOR ME BECAUSE PLASTIC WARPS IN THE HEAT OF FLORIDA. THE AFFECTED PARTS ARE THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING AND IT'S CONNECTION TO THE ENGINE. WHEN TEST DRIVING AFTER THE BATTERY REPLACEMENT THE WRENCH LIGHT AND AIRBAG LIGHT FINALLY CAME ON. THEY TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND IT WOULDN'T START. JUST RECENTLY NOTICED MY 06 FORD EXPLORER HAVING UNEXPECTED ENGINE SURGES. WENT TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION AND IT FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS FIGHTING ME TO STOP. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I GAVE IT A LITTLE GAS HOWEVER THE VEHICLE BEGIN TO MAINTAIN THAT SPEED LIKE I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. I PURPOSELY DID NOT GIVE THE VEHICLE ANY GAS AND SAW THAT IT JUST KEPT ACCELERATING. FINALLY AFTER BREAKING OUT I BEGAN TO BRAKE AND AGAIN FELT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATING. SINCE NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME I WANTED TO SEE WHAT THE VEHICLE DID IF I GAVE IT A LITTLE GAS IN WHICH IT MADE A POPPING SOUND AND DID NOT RESPOND WHEN I GAVE IT MORE GAS BUT THE ENGINE STILL WAS RUNNING. THE CORRECTION WAS: INSTALLED UPDATED DRAIN TUBES, AS PER 07-20-6. THE DOME CONSOLE LIGHTS WERE LEAKING & HAD WATER INSIDE, THE ROOF HEADLINER ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WAS SOAKED & LEAKING WATER WELL INTO THE TRUNK AREA, AND THE RIGHT SIDE REAR BEHIND THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS SOAKED & LEAKING WATER WELL INTO THE TRUNK AREA AS WELL. WE RECEIVED A PHONECALL FROM THE TECHNICIAN ON 3/31/09, STATING THAT NO LEAKS HAD BEEN FOUND, NO WATER STAINS VISIBLE. WE WENT IN TO SPEAK WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT EVENING, AND SHOWED THE PICTURES TAKEN BY US ON 3/29/09 - SHOWING EXTENSIVE WATER LEAKAGE. THEY KEPT THE SUV TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE FOR LEAKS. ON 4/2/09 WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE TECHNICIAN, STATING THE DRAINS WOULD BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THESE EVENTS IS THAT I AM AFRAID TO ALLOW THE CHILDREN TO TURN ON THE DVD PLAYER, SUNROOF, & EVEN FEAR OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD/ELECTRICAL SAFETY ISSUES. MY HUSBAND HAS LOST DAYS @ WORK WHILE THE TRUCK IS IN SERVICE. WHILE DRIVING THE ABS / CHECK ENGINE / RSC WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. THE TRUCK WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN FOR A COUPLE OF MILES, BUT THEN IT STARTED MAKING A NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE TRUCK WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO A SAFE LOCATION AND WAS LEFT ON THE SIDE OF A ROAD IN A HIGH TRAFFIC AREA AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER FOUND OUT THE REAR RIGHT TOOTHED RING KNOWN AS AN "EXCITER RING" WAS LOOSE ON THE AXLE. THEY REPORTED THE WHOLE AXLE PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF HOW IT'S MADE AT A COST OF $630 INSTALLED. THEY INDICATED THEY HAD NO REQUIREMENT TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM AND I BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT WITH UNFORESEEN SAFETY PROBLEMS THAT IS BEING UNDER REPORTED. MY TRUCK ONLY HAD 50K MILES AND I HAVE RESEARCHED MANY OTHER INDIVIDUALS REPORTING THE PROBLEM ON CAR AND TRUCK FORUMS. I HAVE INDICATED ON THE FORUMS TO REPORT THIS DEFECT TO YOUR WEB SITE AND INCLUDED THE LINKS. THE FORUMS ARE INDICATING FORD KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM AND MY DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPEN ONCE IN A WHILE. WE HAVE A LONG TRIP SCHEDULED SOON AND I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH ANOTHER TOOTHED SENSOR RING FALLING OFF. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE LETTING MY WIFE AND KIDS DRIVE IN THIS VEHICLE KNOWING THAT THERE ARE THREE OTHER AXLES WITH POTENTIALLY THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN THE CAR STOPS, STARTS OR DRIVES SLOW... IT JERKS WHEN CHANGING GEARS FROM 1ST THROUGH 3RD, BOTH UP- AND DOWN SHIFTING. IT HAS ALSO STARTED TO SLOW (FOR NO APPARENT REASON) WHEN DRIVING AT A STEADY SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY (GOING AROUND 65-70 MILES AN HOUR), I HAVE HAD MULLINAX FORD LOOK AT THE TRANSMISSION 5 TIMES NOW, AND IT IS STILL THERE. CURRENTLY I AM INVOLVED IN A LEMON LAW CASE TRYING TO GET FORD TO BUY MY CAR BACK. THEY ARE STATING THAT THERE IS NO SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM WITH MY TRANSMISSION AND AT THE SAME TIME SAYING THAT IT IS DUE TO ABUSE OR NEGLECT ON MY PART ???? I CAN ONLY SUGGEST THAT OTHERS TAKE THE SAME ROUTE - THE MORE THE BETTER TO GET THE ATTENTION OF FORD TO COMPLETELY FIX THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO HAVE HAD MY COMPASS WORKED ON (DID NOT SHOW ANYTHING OR JUST TWO LINES) , THE GEAR SHIFTER REPLACED (WOULDN'T SHIFT OUT OF 'P'), THE REAR WINDOW REPLACED (DUE TO WATER LEAK) AND THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM REPLACED AS THERE WAS SOMETHING BEND ???. I ALSO HAVE EXPERIENCED THAT WHEN WORK HAS BEEN DONE ON THE CAR THE BREAKS WORKED DIFFERENTLY AFTERWARDS. IN MY OPINION THE 2006 FORD EXPLORER IS A LEMON. *TR

THIS APPLIES TO ALL OF THE NEWER CARS, TRUCKS ETC. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE NEW HEADLIGHTS ARE CALLED, BUT THEY ARE BRIGHT WHITE OR BLUISH IN TINT. I HAVE EXPERIENCED MANY TIMES WHERE THE ONCOMING CARS WITH THESE LIGHT BLIND ME TO THE POINT I CAN'T SEE THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME. 2006 FORD EXPLORER WITH FREQUENT TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH THE ANTILOCK BRAKE AND ANTI-ROLL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. HE HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR AXLE FAILED. TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2006 EDDIE BAUER FORD EXPLORER'S DASHBOARD INSTRUMENT LIGHTS TURNED ON AT ANY GIVEN TIME OF THE DAY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IF THE LIGHTS TURNED ON WHILE DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO REGISTER THE CORRECT SPEED. WHEN THE FAILURE HAPPENED SHE PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE IGNITION OFF, BUT IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 8 OCCASIONS, AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, THE ANTI THEFT MODULE, AND THE COMPUTER. ALSO UNPLUGGED AND PLUGGED ALL THE WIRES UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE CONTINUED TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. I OWN A 2006 EXPLORER EDDIE BAUER WITH 3000 MILES ON IT. HERE IS THE PROBLEM, JUST BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT STOP LIGHT, STOP SIGN OR WHATEVER, THE ENGINE REVS TO 1200-1500 RPMS FOR JUST A BRIEF SECOND. I AM NOT GIVING THE CAR ANY GAS TO INDUCE THIS OCCURRENCE. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THE CAR IS DOING THIS AND NEITHER DOES MY LOCAL DEALER. THE SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE CAR IS IN FACT DOING WHAT I DESCRIBED ABOVE, BUT COULD NOT OFFER A FIX. I TESTED ANOTHER 2006 V6 EXPLORER WITH 3 MILES ON IT, TO MINE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SURPRISE; IT DID THE EXACT SAME THING AS MY TRUCK. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE WOULD LOOK INTO THE SITUATION AND CALL SOME OF HIS ENGINEER BUDDIES TO SEE IF THEY COULD GIVE HIM ANY INFORMATION. I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM HIM. I AM ALSO BEGINNING TO NOTICE THAT I ACTUALLY HAVE TO BREAK HARDER TO GET THE TRUCK TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS CAN NOT BE NORMAL, YET MY FORD DEALER IS INSINUATING NOTHING IS ACTUALLY WRONG WITH THE CAR. LONGER THAN NECESSARY STOPPING DISTANCES AND WILL LEAD TO UNNECESSARY COLLISIONS. BECAUSE THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL NOT ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH 2006 V6 EXPLORERS MY DEALER WILL PROBABLY DO NOTHING TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. I COMPLAINED TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND NEVER EVEN RECEIVED A CONFIRMATION THAT THEY RECEIVED MY EMAIL. I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A RECALL SITUATION. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, ALL 2006 V6 EXPLORERS EXHIBIT THIS PROBLEM OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION, ADMITTEDLY NOT BY ANY STRETCH A POWERFUL SUDDEN ACCELERATION BUT STILL IT IS A SUDDEN ACCELERATION. I AM CONFIDENT IN MY ASSESSMENT BECAUSE I HAVE PERSONALLY DRIVEN 2 EXPLORERS AND DIFFERENT SERVICE REP CLAIMED HE DROVE YET ANOTHER 06 EXPLORER THAT DID EXACTLY THE SAME THING.
