PERIODICALLY BUT OCCURING MORE OFTEN. ONCE THE CAR IS PLACED IN DRIVE OR REVERSE BUT FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE, ONCE THE BRAKE IS RELEASED THE CAR QUICKLY AND AGGRESSIVELY ACCELERATES ON IT'S OWN WITHOUT PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL AND WITH VERY LITTLE REACTION TIME YOU HAVE TO SLAM THE BRAKE PEDAL TO MAKE THE CAR STOP AND THEN THE CAR CUTS OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST MONTH. VERY DANGEROUS! I HAVE RESEARCHED RECALL INFORMATION FOR THIS MODEL AS WELL AS MY DIRECT VIN NUMBER ASSOCIATED WITH MY VEHICLE BUT I HAVE YET TO FIND A RECALL. HOWEVER I HAVE READ MANY REVIEWS OF THE SAME ISSUES WITH OTHER FORD 500 OWNERS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING A VARIOUS SPEED. THE WRENCH WARNING ICON WOULD ILLUMINATE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CLEANING, THE THROTTLE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR IN 2007 I AM ON MY 4TH BATTERY. THE BATTERY WILL JUST DIE AND STOP HOLDING A CHARGE. THE DEALER CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DRAIN. EVERY TIME THE CHARGE IT, THE CAR JUST DRAINS IT. THE BATTERIES ON OVERAGE ONLY LAST AROUND 2 YEARS. WHEN I GO UP AND DOWN STEEP HILLS MY CHECK BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON, BUT ONCE ON LEVEL THE LIGHT GOES OUT. MY CAR IS FINE AND THEN I GO TO START THE CAR IT WON'T START. NO WARNING WHAT SO EVER. THE CHECK BATTERY LIGHT NEVER EVEN COME ON. UNLESS OF COURSE WHILE I AM DRIVING UP OR DOWN A STEEP HILL. I LIVE IN SPOKANE WASHINGTON, BUT I HAD TO HAVE THE BATTERY REPLACED ONCE WHILE I WAS ON VACATION IN MONTANA. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DRAINING THE BATTERY BUT WE CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IT IS.

THERE IS A CHRONIC RECURRENCE OF THE ENGINE STALLING, JERKING, IDLE SPEED LOPING, IN LOW GEAR FOR THIS VEHICLE. AT START UP AND THE ENGINE IS COLD THERE IS LITTLE TO NO PROBLEM. HOWEVER, ONCE THE NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE IS REACHED (PER THE READOUT GAUGE), AND UPON APPLYING THE BRAKES TO COME TO A STOP, AND AS THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS THE ENGINE GOES DEAD OR STALLS, AFTER RE-STARTING AND AT IDLE, THE IDLE SPEED, PER THE INDICATOR, FLUCTUATES BACK AND FORTH FROM ABOUT 500 RPM'S TO 900 RPMS. PLACING THE GEAR SHIFT IN THE DRIVE POSITION CAUSES THE CAR TO JUMP PRIOR TO ACCELERATION. AT THIS POINT WHEN TAKING OFF THE CAR JERKS FORWARD. OUR 2007 FORD 500 CURRENTLY HAS 63,000 MILES ON IT. AT ABOUT 53,000 MILES WE STARTED TO SEE A RANDOM "SURGE" OF THE THROTTLE WHEN WE WERE SHIFTING THE CAR FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. IT HAS CONTINUED TO GET PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, NOW OCCURRING ALMOST EVERY TIME WE SHIFT THE CAR FROM THE POSITIONS NOTED ABOVE. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS. THERE HAS BEEN A CONTINUING ISSUE WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS IN 2005, 2006, AND 2007 MY FORD 500/FREESTYLE AND MERCURY MONTEGO. THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THE THROTTLE BODY & MAF SENSOR. WHAT IS NOW HAPPENING IS THE CARS EQUIPPED WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION CONTINUALLY BREAK DOWN AND COMPLETELY GOES DOWN. IT HAPPENS IN IDLE AND ALL OTHER GEARS. THE CAR LOSES ALL POWER AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT HAS HAPPENED IN PARKING LOTS, IN THE DRIVEWAY, BUT IT HAPPENS WHILE IN MOTION ON STREETS/INTERSTATES. IF YOU SEARCH GOOGLE WITH THE CAR MAKES AND MODELS/SIBLINGS, THERE ARE THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. CARS WITH AS FEW AS 8,000 MILES DRIVE ON UP TO OURS, WHICH ONLY HAS 124,000 MILES DRIVEN, AND BEYOND. A FRIEND OF OURS HAS A 2007 FREESTYLE AND SHE HAS ALREADY HAD TO FULLY REPLACE HER TRANSMISSION. SOME PEOPLE HAVE STATED THAT THE 3.0 LITER ENGINES WERE NOT COMPATIBLE FULLY WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. SOME HAVE STATED THE ENGINE CAN'T FULLY COOPERATE WITH THE TORQUE AND SHIFTING OF GEARS OF THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS. IT IS A DANGER TO ANYONE THAT OWNS ONE OF THE MENTIONED VEHICLES. IT HAPPENED TO US ON THE INTERSTATE AND WE WERE ALMOST REAR-ENDED BECAUSE THE CAR LOST ALL DRIVE POWER AND BASICALLY STOPPED IN THE FAST LANE. IT IS MAKING A VERY STRANGE THUMPING NOISE IN IDLE IN BOTH PARK AND REVERSE AS WELL. A HELICOPTER-LIKE SOUND. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED, IT WOULD THROW A WRENCH CODE ON THE DISPLAY WHICH MEANS TRANSMISSION/POWERTRAIN ISSUE. IF THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND THE DOORS OPENED, IT WOULD RESET AND DRIVE AS NORMAL. NOW, IT WILL NOT CLEAR NOR DRIVE. THE WRENCH SYMBOL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ARE ILLUMINATED. WE WERE 100 MILES FROM HOME THE FINAL TIME (05-15-16) IT COMPLETELY STOPPED MOVEMENT IN TRAFFIC. IT IS NOW PARKED SINCE WE CAN'T AFFORD TO REPAIR IT.

MY 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED IS ACTING UP. WHEN YOU PUT IT IN REVERSE OR DRIVE IT REVS UP AND JUMPS. I HAVE TO MAKE SURE I HAVE MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE SO IT DOESN'T CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. NOW IT IS STARTING TO REV UP AND JUMP WHEN IM SITTING AT A STOP SIGN. THIS PAST FRIDAY I WAS SITTING AT A STOP SIGN AND IT REVVED UP AND JUMPED AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO REAREND A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IS THERE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. I REALLY NEED THIS FIXED BEFORE IT GETS WORSE AND IT KILLS ME OR I KILL SOMEONE ELSE. 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED, IN JULY/AUGUST OF 2010, AT AROUND 70,000 MILES, BEGAN TO HAVE IRREGULAR ACCELERATION AND WOULD LUNGE FORWARD WHILE BRAKING OR AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD. HAD THE DEALERSHIP RUN THE DIAGNOSIS, WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT NEEDED REPLACING. HAD THE REPAIR WORK DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP ON AUGUST 12, 2010. ON AUGUST 30, 2011, TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM REPEAT, ONLY MORE AGGRESSIVE FROM THE FIRST INCIDENT JUST TWO DAYS AGO, EVEN AS I PULLED INTO THE DEALERSHIPS SERVICE PARKING SPACE. WAS TOLD THEY WILL HAVE TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM AGAIN, NOTHING IS UNDER WARRANTY. I AM JUST OVER THE 12 MONTHS, AND AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES AFTER THE REPAIR WAS DONE LAST YEAR. WARRANTY OR NOT, THIS REPAIR SHOULD HAVE LASTED THE LIFE OF THE CAR OR AT LEAST ANOTHER 70,000 MILES, NOT 30,000. I DIDN'T HAVE THE DEALERSHIP KEEP THE OLD THROTTLE BODY. THE WARRANTY COMPANY HAD TOLD ME LAST YEAR THAT THE PART, THE THROTTLE BODY WAS ON BACK ORDER, BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAD NO PROBLEM GETTING THE PART, SUPPOSEDLY. I'M CONCERNED THE PART WASN'T REPLACED, BUT I HAVE NO EVIDENCE OF SUCH. I HAVE NOTICED EACH TIME, THE PROBLEM IS WORSE AFTER I HAVE THE CAR IDLING FOR A TIME BEFORE PUTTING IN GEAR, REVERSE OR DRIVE. REPAIR ORDER DETAIL - INTERNAL COPY READS "INSPECTED AND TESTED VEHICLE FOR ACCELERATING WITHOUT A COMMAND. RAN SELF TEST TO RETRIEVE PASS CODES. INSTALLED MONITOR AND FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE TO ROAD TEST. TESTING RESULTED FINDING THE THROTTLE MOTOR BINDING INTERMEDIATELY. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REMOVED TO INSPECT AND REPLACE. THE PROCESSOR WAS REPROGRAMMED AND RETESTED TO VERIFY OPERATION." WHEN THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER THE 36 MONTH 36,000 WARRANTY IT BEGAN LUNGING FORWARD OR BACKWARD WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED TO ACCELERATE. NOTICEABLY WHEN FIRST TAKING OUT OF PARK EITHER GOING FORWARD OR REVERSE, OR WHEN GOING THROUGH DRIVE UP WINDOWS. (IE FAST-FOOD OR BANK). INTERMITTENTLY AT FIRST AND THEN MORE AND MORE UNTIL IT WAS DOING IT EVERY TIME, AND AT A GREATER ACCELERATION. THE FORD DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY KNEW RIGHT OFF THE BAT, IT EVIDENTLY WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. WE HAD TO WAIT OVER A MONTH FOR THEM TO FINALLY GET ONE IN BECAUSE THEY WERE BACK-ORDERED . EVIDENTLY LOTS OF PEOPLE NEEDED THEM! WE WERE ADVISED NOT TO USE OUR CAR DURING THIS TIME BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE. OF COURSE THE DEALER DID NOT WANT TO PROVIDE A RENTAL CAR EVEN THOUGH IT WAS UNDER THE NEW CAR WARRANTY, BUT AFTER MAKING COMPLAINTS TO FORD MOTOR CO FOR THREE WEEKS WHILE THE PART REPEATEDLY DID NOT COME IN, WE WERE GIVEN A RENTAL UNTIL IT WAS FINALLY REPLACED 11-2009. NOW IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE NEW CAR WARRANTY IS UP AND THEY WILL NOT WARRANTY THEIR REPAIR BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN OVER 12 MONTHS. THE CAR NOW HAS 41,000 MILES AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. THE FORD FIVE HUNDRED'S ENGINE SHUTS OFF AS YOU TURN THE WHEEL, THAT'S HOW IT STARTED OUT. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE CAR'S ENGINE WOULD SHUT OFF JUST DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD. AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF THE STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK UP AND NOT MOVE. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE KEY TO OFF POSITION. AFTER TURNING KEY TO OFF POSITION, I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT DROVE FINE UNTIL I EITHER TURNED A CORNER OR IT JUST SHUT OFF AS I WENT STRAIGHT. AFTER SPEAKING WITH OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY HAVE HAD QUITE A FEW FORD FIVE HUNDRED OWNERS COME IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS CAR IS ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD AND 84,000 (PLUS) MILES ON IT. THIS CAR SHOULDN'T BE ACTING LIKE THAT. IT WILL COST $800+ TO GET IT FIXED, IF WHAT THEY DO WILL FIX IT. THE AIR CONDITION IN THIS CAR STOPPED WORKING; ONLY HOT AIR WAS BLOWING OUT. AFTER TAKING IT TO A MECHANIC, I WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO A LEAKING AIR COMPRESSOR. SIX MONTHS AFTER WE PURCHASED OUR NEW FORD 500 FROM A LOCAL DEALER WE HAD MICE IN THE CAR. THEY ATE A HOLE IN THE REAR SEAT AND GOT INTO OUR WINTER SURVIVAL GEAR INCLUDING A DOWN SLEEPING BAG. THE DEALER WAS VERY COOPERATIVE AND TRACKED HOW THE MICE GOT IN. IT WAS THROUGH THE AIR RELEASE VENTS IN THE TRUNK. THE MICE SIMPLY CAME IN THROUGH THE VENTS THAT WERE DESIGNED TO RELEASE AIR WHEN THE DOORS WERE CLOSED. IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW. ALL FORD WOULD HAVE HAD TO DO WAS TO INCLUDE METAL SCREEN OVER THE VENTS. WHEN OUR LOCAL DEALER ASKED FORD TO COVER THE COST OF REPLACING THE SEAT THEY WERE TOLD THAT THE FACTORY DIDN'T COVER MICE. WE LIVE IN A COLD CLIMATE. NOW THE CAR SHAKES REALLY BAD ANYTIME WE HAVE TO STOP AND HAVE TO KEEP FOOT ON THE BRAKE REALLY HARD, SOMETIMES THE CAR DIES DURING THIS TOO AS WELL AS GOING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. TOWN EAST FORD TOLD ME THE TIRE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS IT WAS CONSIDERED ROAD HAZARD. WHEN I STARTED TO REMOVE THE FACTORY INSTALLED BALL JOINT I NOTICED THAT THE NUT THAT HOLDS THE BALL JOINT TO THE LOWER CONNECTION JOINT WAS ON THE VERGE OF COMING OFF. SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS NEW I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND ONLINE, THAT THE OPTIONAL BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT ROCKER SWITCH IS WIRED IMPROPERLY. THAT IS, WIRED IN REVERSE. THE MOUNTED SWITCH CLEARLY DEPICTS A FOOT OVER A PEDAL IN THE CENTER WITH AN ARROW POINTING 'UP' AT THE TOP OF THE SWITCH AND AN ARROW POINTING 'DOWN' AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SWITCH. THIS CONTROLS THE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT OF BOTH PEDALS FROM THE FLOOR AND IS DESIGNED TO PLACE THE PEDALS WITHIN REACH OF THE OPERATOR. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY HAVE DEPRESSED THIS SWITCH WHILE IN MOTION PUSHING THE TOP PORTION OF THE ROCKER SWITCH ASSUMING THE PEDALS WOULD RISE 'UP' AS INDICATED BY THE ARROWS ON THE SWITCH. WRONG!! MY FORD BEGAN ACTING STRANGELY WHEN TURNING, AND WOULD HYDROPLANE BADLY WHEN RAINING. I TOOK IT TO MY INDEPENDENT GARAGE AND THEY FOUND THAT THE LEFT LOWER BALL JOINT RETAINING NUT HAD WORKED LOOSE. THAT CAUSED THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL TO MOVE IN TOWARD THE BALL JOINT AND THE JOINT OR NUT TORE THE TIRE DOWN TO THE STEEL BELT. THE SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED THAT IT APPEARED THAT THE NUT WAS NOT TORQUED CORRECTLY AT THE FACTORY. OF COURSE, I HAD TO HAVE THE BALL JOINT REPLACED AND TWO NEW TIRES. IN NOVEMBER OF 2010 MY 2007 FORD 500 BEGAN TO "LEAP" FOWARD OR BACKWARD AFTER SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE. THIS ACTION HAS CONTINUED FOR THE FOLLOWING MONTHS. IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE AND MORE OFTEN. IN MAY OF 2011 IT "LUNGED" WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY CAUSING DAMAGE TO BOTH MY VEHICLE AND MY HUSBANDS WHO WAS PARKED NEAR ME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY AFTER IT "LUNGED" IN A PARKING LOT LAST WEEK ALMOST HITTING A CHILD WALKING BY. I ASSUMED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. HOWEVER, I AM TOLD IT'S A BAD ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I AM TOLD IT WILL GO OUT SOMETIME, THERE ISN'T ANY WAY OF KNOWING WHEN BUT IT WILL GO INTO "FAIL SAFE MODE". WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, CAR WILL LUNGE BACK A FEW FEET. JUST LAST WEEK, I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AT A STORE AND IT LUNGED FIVE TIMES BEFORE I TOOK IT OUT OF REVERSE AND PUT IT INTO DRIVE. IT LUNGED AGAIN FORWARD AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME. IF MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TO LUNGE UNLESS IT IS STOPPED EITHER BY BRAKING OR HITTING SOMETHING. WHEN IN A DRIVE-THRU, WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WHEN I RELEASE THE BRAKE THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, PEOPLE HAVE STATED IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE AND IT COULD COST 500.00 + DOLLARS TO REPAIR. IT IS A FACTORY MISTAKE THAT FORD IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR. I WAS ADVISED TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA JUST IN CASE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. WE ARE TAKING THE CAR IN TO SEE IF WE CAN AFFORD THE REPAIR ON OUR OWN NEXT WEEK. IF IT IS THE THROTTLE AND DOES COST AS MUCH AS OTHERS HAVE CLAIMED, WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD THE REPAIR.

PURCHASED A NEW FORD FIVE HUNDRED IN 2007. HAVE KEPT UP WITH ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE. AFTER PUTTING ABOUT 20,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, I STARTED HAVING A PROBLEM WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION. I WOULD COME TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, MAILBOX, OR DRIVE-THRU AND LET MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKES AND THE CAR WOULD "JUMP" -- ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. MY FOOT WOULD NOT EVEN BE ON THE GAS PEDAL. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE "REPROGRAMMED". I SPECIFICALLY ASKED COULD IT BE A PROBLEM WITH FUEL SYSTEM AND WAS TOLD NO. I HAD THE WORK COMPLETED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS TO THIS DAY. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR MISSES WITH REAR END COLLISIONS. FINALLY AS I WAS ENTERING A PARKING SPACE, THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND HIT A POST IN FRONT OF THE PARKING SPACE.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. DURING AN INSPECTION, THE CONTACT REALIZED THAT THE PLATE NUT WAS NOT PLACED DEEP ENOUGH INTO THE PANEL, WHICH PREVENTED THE FUEL FILLER NECK FROM BEING SECURELY FASTENED TO THE FENDER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL FILLER NECK ADAPTER WAS NOT SECURELY ATTACHED. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO TIGHTEN THE BOLTS, HOWEVER, IT CREATED A LARGER GAP. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE IS A STILL A 1/8" GAP BETWEEN FUEL FILLER AND NECK ADAPTOR AND RIGHT REAR FENDER PANEL.
