2007 Ford Five Hundred recalls 2

Fuel System, Gasoline06E056000

What's wrong. Certain aftermarket fuel filters sold under the purolator brand name, p/n f65277, shipped from january 16 through june 2, 2006, for use on the above listed passenger vehicles. Due to incorrect design, the quick connectors may not fully seat with the tube interface, even though the person making the connection may believe that the quick connector is fully attached.

Risk. Failure of this connection could lead to fuel spillage and, in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could occur.

Fix. Ufi will notify owners and replace the filters free of charge. The recall began on august 4, 2006. Owners may contact ufi filters usa at 800-230-5876.

Fuel System, Gasoline:storage:tank Assembly:filler Pipe And Cap11V355000

What's wrong. Ford is recalling certain model year 2007 ford five hundred and mercury montego vehicles manufactured from september 5, 2006, through september 11, 2006. The fuel tanks may not have consistent welds between the fuel tank and fuel filler neck spud which can affect the strength of the joint. Some fuel tank spud welds may not provide the expected strength in the event of a severe rear impact to the vehicle. An improper weld can result in a crack in the joint which could illuminate the emissions malfunction indicator light, cause a fuel odor, or allow fuel to leak out.

Risk. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.

Fix. Dealers will replace the fuel tank free of charge. The safety recall began on august 16, 2011. Owners may contact ford motor company customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332.

Latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch06V383000

What's wrong. On certain passenger vehicles currently registered in the following states: alaska, colorado, connecticut, delaware, idaho, illinois, indiana, iowa, kansas, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, montana, nebraska, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, north dakota, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, south dakota, utah, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin, and wyoming. The side door latch mechanisms may experience water intrusion allowing the latch mechanism to freeze in cold weather.

Risk. As a result, the door latch pawl may not return to the latch position when the door is closed, and the door could open while the vehicle is moving.

Fix. Dealers will install a shield over the front latches; seal a drain hole in the rear window trim molding on the freestyle rear side doors; and apply grease to all front and rear side-door latch mechanisms free of charge. The recall began on november 8, 2006. Owners may contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.

Fuel System, Gasoline:storage:tank Assembly:mounting05V515000

What's wrong. On certain passenger vehicles, the straps that secure the fuel tank to the vehicle body may break, causing the fuel tank and fuel tank heat shield to drop on the driveshaft (all wheel drive vehicles) or exhaust system (front wheel drive vehicles).

Risk. If this happens, drivers may notice a noise or a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.

Fix. Dealers will replace both fuel tank straps. The recall began on december 1, 2005. Owners may contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.

2007 Five Hundred

Was stopped at a drive-thru window and when i went to pull up to receive my food, the car lurched ahead of the window. I put the car in reverse to pick up my food and it lurched so fast backward that i had no control of it, even with my foot on the brake. This caused a crash into the front of another car. I have never had an accident and i am a careful driver. I received a moving violation and there was damage done to both cars. Enough damage that our insurance company is involved. Ford should do something about these lurch problems before someone is killed. Thank goodness no one was in front of me or they would have been killed, please, ford, do something about these fords that have this problem. *tr

2007 Five Hundred

Purchased a new ford five hundred in 2007. Have kept up with all regular maintenance. After putting about 20,000 miles on the vehicle, i started having a problem with sudden acceleration. I would come to a stop at an intersection, mailbox, or drive-thru and let my foot off the brakes and the car would "jump" -- accelerate on its own. My foot would not even be on the gas pedal. I took it to the ford dealership and was told that the transmission had to be "reprogrammed". I specifically asked could it be a problem with fuel system and was told no. I had the work completed but the problem persists to this day. I have had several near misses with rear end collisions. Finally as i was entering a parking space, the car accelerated on its own and hit a post in front of the parking space.

2006 Five Hundred

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. The contact stated that the vehicle had an unexpected acceleration as the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was unable to stop the vehicle or place it in reverse when the failure occurred. As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries reported. Additionally, the contact mentioned that the vehicle failed to accelerate out of first gear. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 56,000.

2006 Five Hundred

I'm not sure if this is a power train or other problem, car lurches dangerously at low speeds, and when changing gear into and out of reverse. I hit a post parking in august of 2010 due to this, and it's been getting gradually worse. Took it to the dealer who replaced a broken upper motor mount that was connected to the transmission. Didn't help, although it seemed like a good guess at the time. It helps to keep foot firmly on brake when changing gear or holding still, while the car tries to lurch forward (or back) with unplanned acceleration. Seems to be getting increasingly worse and now i don't feel it's safe to let anyone else drive it, like at valet parking. Taking it back to dealer tomorrow, but we let warranty expire recently darn it. We get so many fake spam warranty-expiring phone calls that i got confused and dropped the ball. Throttle control module may be giving false signal to carburetor, not sure what it is. *kb

2006 Five Hundred

I have a 06' ford five hundred that i purchased certified used in 07'. Within a few months i started experiencing surging problems especially when the a/c was running. The dealer replaced the instrument cluster in 08' but did not fix the problem. On each return to the dealership they could not fix the problem. On my last visit to the dealer they cleaned the throttle body and said that would fix the problem. This did not fix the problem and they could not diagnose the problem. This problem has caused me to rearend a vehicle in 2009. Ford is not responding to the problem at all. After 3+ years of trying to figure out what the problem is i all but have given up. That is until today when the repair shop that i use on a regular basis hired a new mechanic who was able to diagnose the problem. The problem turns out to be the throttle position sensors in the throttle body. It took the mechanic over 2 hours to get to the bottom of the problem. The unfortunate thing is the cost of a new throttle body is over $500 then add labor. If i have the throttle body replaced there is no guarantee from ford that the new throttle body won't do the same thing. It is obvious that ford has a problem with the throttle body and is not willing to resolve the issue and back their products. *kb

2005 Five Hundred

Leaving a grocer at 13:15 on 9/7/2015 started to back out of parking spot when auto suddenly accelerated backward, across the aisle and slammed into parked vehicle with impact sending that auto into a 3rd. Damages to both vehicles. When i went to pull into my original slot to deal with situation, as soon as i removed foot from brake, auto lunged forward at high rate of speed, jumped a 6" landscape curb and plowed into the front end of a cadillac srx causing major damage to that vehicle, still unk total damage to mine. It was a very hot day and the ac was running. No other vehicles were occupied other than mine, and i was sole occupant. My airbag did not deploy and passenger's was not turned on. I did receive a significant bruise on my sternum from the shoulder component of my seat belt. My foot was not on the accelerator for either "lunge". Crashes were witnessed and peoria az police did respond with 2 units. Officers did take information, but when i inquired about incident # for my records officer responded that there would be no report and no citations as it occurred on private property. My insurance carrier was contacted from site, but being a holiday, i was not able to speak with adjuster at that time. Knowing that it was not my actions that caused this incident, i checked the next day and discovered that this identical situation had been under investigation with nhtsa at the time i purchased the car on or about 11/16/12 at which a service program to retify was in effect. With my incident though, major damage occurred. Neither at the time of purchase, nor throughout the investigation & tenure of my ownership (current) was i notified of the known safety problem nor it's program to mitigate. Attached aerial photo shows back to back dimension to first impact and back to front dimension of 2nd. I was parked in position of white vehicle.

2005 Five Hundred

I have taken my 2005 ford 500 to my local ford dealer so many times i can not count for the same recurring issues. This vehicle always lunges when i put in gear in reverse or forward. The car lunged backward striking a parked car the first week i got it. I paid for all damage cause i didn't want to claim new car on my insurance. While driving on highway engine starts to decelerate while trying to pass car or change lanes..big problem in traffic..have to floor it till it kicks into gear. Dangerous. Then, everytime it rains, all 4 doors fill with water..i have to lift up rubber at the bottom..clear the holes..wait for 5 minutes each door. Every winter the driver side door latch freezes up and i can't close the door..i thought they dealer fixed the door latch due to a safety recall..that is not the case..several times, i have had to drive to work 15 minutes holding the door shut while driving down the highway.dangerous. I have had it lubed with several products, doesn't work..the service manager at my local ford dealer showed me how to hold the door handle open while using a screwdriver to free the latch..handy little trick. I keep silicone lube spray, screwdriver, pliers, and a jumper box in the car at all times.i have called ford motor co. Many times..always got run around and no straight answers. Finally last week after calling 5 times, i was transferred to a supervisor that explained to me that the other 10 times i called.no complaint was filed and informed me on the complaint process..i just purchased a new taurus and am hoping to let my son use the 500 to drive to college daily..i am concerned about his safety in this car..so unless these issues are addressed and corrected, i don't know what to do..i have put a lot money into this car.what happen to the lemon law. This car is a lemon. *tr

2005 Five Hundred

Electronic throttle control is bad. The car lunges forward and back. It also goes into engine fail safe mode. It also caused me a little accident, i went in reverse and the car lunged into the garage wall, broke the frame of garage and car has scratches and marks at the rear. Very scared to drive, wife wont drive. Part is on back-order, and its my only car. Have wife and two kids and i do not want them to drive in the car. This is a serious safety issue and i can not believe how lightly it is getting taken care of. Ford needs to force a recall fast. *tr

Tl*the contact's client owns a 2005 ford five hundred. While the client was driving 35 mph, she removed her foot from the accelerator pedal; however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. She attempted to apply the brakes, but the speed continued to increase. The client also applied the emergency brake and encountered a pickup truck traveling in the same direction. She crossed over the double-yellow line on a 2-lane road and passed the pickup truck. The driver of the pickup informed police that he noticed brakes being applied, smelled, and saw blue smoke coming from the vehicle. The vehicle continued accelerating. The air bags deployed. The client then side swiped a guardrail for approximately 40 feet. The front tire blew out and the vehicle was pushed across the roadway. A police report was filed. Two passengers sustained injuries. The front end of the vehicle struck an embankment on the other side of the road. The vehicle became airborne for approximately 70 feet and landed on its side. At that time, only the driver's side air bag deployed. The vehicle rolled over twice and landed at a recently planted flower bed. The driver seat belt disengaged as well. Part of the crash was caught on tape by a pennsylvania dot surveillance camera. The current and failure mileages were 22,000. Updated 04/29/08. *lj

2007 Five Hundred

For several months car has been lunging forward without my foot on the gas. A couple weeks ago while pulling into my driving way it lunged and the car ran into my concrete steps causing 3,500 worth of damage. This is very dangerous and could have been one of my daughters. I really hope you take this seriously because once lives are lost you can't get them back. I just want ford to fess up and to take responsibility for this problem, so i may get it fixed and not kill or injure anyone. *tr

I purchased a ford 500 07 in march of 2010. Prior to the 60,000 mile warranty ending, i took the car back twice for a surging problem going from drive/reverse. The first time the shop could not find a problem. The second time the service mgr. And daughter did a test drive. Right off the bat the car surged. He called me and told me to bring the car back one morning so he could keep it all day. I could not do this at the time, this is my only means of transportation. On 10/2/10 while backing up in the emergency lane on the interstate. My car accelerated on it own, while moving backwards. I hit the brake the accelerator went to the floor. I lifted my foot off the brake it took off again. The rpm hand was going crazy. I had no control. The car went into a spin, i ended up in the ditch while hitting another car. Electrical System 16% 168 Read
2006 Five Hundred

Pulled in drop off a donation at a second hand store. I put it in park and turned off the vehicle; opened the trunk; and looked up startled when a guy sitting nearby said that my car was smoking and on fire (about 10 seconds since i switched the car off and got out). He was on the right, so i moved around the car to the right looking towards the engine. An employee of the store that was on the back, left side of the car pointed towards and said, 'look! Your side mirror is on fire!' i then saw the smoke billowing to the left (a strong afternoon breeze was blowing north). I came around and peered in behind the actual 'mirror' part; the fire had just gone out. Looking at it, i could see it was the security light on the bottom side of the mirror; it was completely melted and fused to the mirror housing- a bubbly mess of plastic. It smelled of acrid, melted plastic and burned electronics. The underside of the mirror had caught fire and started burning for a bit before the fuse finally blew. I am so glad my baby and kindergartener weren't in the car at this time! They usually are. The length of time of time it took for the fuse to finally blow is quite alarming! It could have resulted in the rapid spread of a fire that would quickly overtake the vehicle. What if i was at a gas station when this happened when their happened to be some petrol-vapor present. My next stop was to get two propane tanks filled. They have to bleed off a certain amount of propane each time when finished filling a tank. It isn't far fetched that this electrical issue with failed safeguards could have resulted in far more injury than my slightly burned fingers. This needs to be investigated immediately before something terrible happens to someone. This is a fantastic car! We love it. This is probably an easy fix, but if it isn't fixed, much worse could happen!

I have 2 very serious and dangerous issues. The 1st issue, the car will shut off while driving and without warning. I'll be cruzing down the highway and out of no where it shuts off. I then do not have breaks or power stearing. This last Winter my daughter was driving it and it shut off while she was on black ice. The car flew into the ditch and the snow was so deep it was compacted in the entire engine so it was impossible to restart the car. It was akso -37 below temperature. It took me almost a half hour to get to her and she almost froze to death. She sustained frost bite on her hands, toes, ears, and cheeks. She almost died. Issue 2, my daughter was driving and all of the sudden a loud noise and she couldn't steer. The rear control arm bracket that is part of the subframe busted causing the control arm to no longer be attached to the frame. She almost flipped the car when that happened. I looked into it and many cars this year make and model had the exact same thing happen in the exact same spot. So that tells me that it is a manufacturer defect. I had this looked at and inspected by Trusted Tires & Auto. Neither of these issues had any warning at all. So now the car sits unable to be driven. Even if it was fixed I won't drive it or let my daughter drive it and I can't sell it because I don't want anyone else to drive it period. It is a death trap literally and puts everyone's life in dangernear that come near the car. It needs to be recalled immediately. This is absolutely unacceptable and Ford needs to stand behind their product. If this car continues to stay on the roads Many people will die because of all the defects on the car.

My husband had an accident in a store parking lot. He miscalculated the length of an narrow island that had a curbing around it. He cut the corner and drove over the curb and down the other side of the other curb. Besides the rear fender damage, more damage was discovered at the state inspection. The roll restrictor was torn. I was told that this part keeps the engine from "rolling" forward or backward. It is part of the engine mount system and is a safety issue. It must be replaced or the car fails the pa state inspection. This repair and inspections cost me over $500. I believe the roll restrictor was damaged in the sudden impact of the curb. I would like to take that issue to the insurance company but i have no proof. How common is the failure of this part? Is it part of the pa state inspection requirements? *tr

When i test drove this vehicle the rpm fluctuated and jerking as if it was a manual opposed to automatic as increasing speeds. There was a recall letter mailed to me a few years later and ford dealership claimed the issue was resolved. Within a few days it began again. I have owned this vehicle 10 years with the same safety issue and have had to pull over numerous times when the rpms dont reset while on the highway to avoid accidents. I am now filing a formal complaint because i was rear ended due to this issue by a person with no insurance. How can i get this to go away before someone is hurt

After driving half-hour in high-way southward on i-45 in the morning. The car cannot be accelerate at around 40mph when i ramp up to 288, and the auto-lock light turned red. Seconds later, it recovered back. 2 minutes later, it happened again . And again . So i parked it . ~8-hours later, i started it and the auto-lock light red again. Seconds later, the engine stopped when i back the car. I stepped on gas-pedal when i tried 3rd time, and the car moved and the auto-lock light kept red. 10-minuts later, when i drive on 288-south at ~60mph, both of the repair light and engine light turned yellow and the auto-lock light off, seconds later, the repair light off. The engine light kept on. So i get down the highway, cannot accelerate car with gas-pedal on and cannot turn sterring wheel, the car slow down and stopped by itself. 5-minutes later, i started it again with engine light on with yellow, the car moved and 10 minutes later, i parked it home.

I don't know if this belongs in engine or fuel/propulsion system. There was no mention of 'gas peddle' in either. The date of 07/17/2013 is approximate. It may have been between 2013 - 2015. I am not sure of the exact dates. It was when i was going to a pain specialist in buffalo after my rear-end accident in my previous car in july 2012. I had to put the car in neutral and press the gas peddle a couple times to get it unstuck. I had it in to the ford dealer where i bought it and they fixed or cleaned something. The ford dealer said that it would cost about $400.00 to replace the component if this didn't work. It happened again when i did another fast acceleration. I was able again to get it unstuck. I have not had the occasion to do a fast acceleration since. I don't run it fast if i can help it.

Vehicle surges when you let off the brake. This started shortly after we purchased the car a couple years ago. They either serviced or replaced the throttle body and that worked for about 6 months or so. Now the car shakes really bad anytime we have to stop and have to keep foot on the brake really hard, sometimes the car dies during this too as well as going from reverse to drive. As soon as you let off the brake the car accelerates, can make it up to almost 40 mph without even touching the gas. It runs horribly in the heat too. Any temp over 70 it jerks into 2 or 3rd gear hard when stopping and going.

Luckily we are still alive. *tr....updated 08/08/16 *bf *tr

I own a 2006 ford five hundred. This past week i had an issue with my car lunging forward while stopped at traffic lights and also while backing up. My husband was parking the vehicle at a restaurant and while the brake was engaged the car lunged forward and hit the curb. Luckily the vehicle came to a stop once it hit the curb. What if the curb was not there but, a person was. We left the restaurant and we were at a stop light. My husband said he felt the car was going to take off. When we got home safely ( thank god ) we went online to investigate. It seems as though we are not the only one with this problem. The ford freestyle has many complaints and the mercury montego as well as the five hundred have complaints as well. It seems to be a problem with the throttle body. My husband called the dealership and got the part for about $560.00. Luckily my neighbor is a mechanic and will be putting the part in for us. This will hopefully correct the problem if not, i be filing another complaint. Please document this problem and hopefully in the future something will be done about it before someone get seriously injured or even killed ! *tr

There is a chronic recurrence of the engine stalling, jerking, idle speed loping, in low gear for this vehicle. At start up and the engine is cold there is little to no problem. However, once the normal operating temperature is reached (per the readout gauge), and upon applying the brakes to come to a stop, and as the transmission downshifts the engine goes dead or stalls, after re-starting and at idle, the idle speed, per the indicator, fluctuates back and forth from about 500 rpm's to 900 rpms. Placing the gear shift in the drive position causes the car to jump prior to acceleration. At this point when taking off the car jerks forward. It smoothes out after increasing the speed, but prior to each stop the fluctuating begins again. *js

At a stoplight with the brake on the engine revved up and the car jumped forward about 20 feet before i could stop it. At the next light the same thing happened. At my final destination approximately 2 miles away my son (who was with me the whole time = i was taking him back to college) told me to let the car run to see if it would do it again. With the car in drive and my foot on the brake (hard) it revved up 2 more times in less than 2 minutes to at least 1500 rpm and was very difficult to hold back. I took it in to the dealer the next day and they replaced the throttle body at a cost of $800. After calling ford and reporting the situation they refused to document this or make a case number until i told them i knew there was a technical bulletin on this according to the dealer. They gave me a case number [xxx] but were rude to me and could not answer if the replacement part addressed the issue and has been fixed. I do not know if it will happen in the next mile, next 100,000 miles, or never again if they will not say if replacement parts have corrected a problem. If a car or pedestrian were in front of me when this happened i would have had an accident without doubt. This car has a safety problem and the incident happened on nov. 27, 2011. Traveling south on i-26 across the tn/nc border through sam's gap on a snowy day led me to drive very slow and come to a stop at the truck information area at the top of the hill. When i saw a large transfer truck pull out onto the road and proceed down the hill i felt it was safe to follow. This truck was moving a lot faster than i was and i was "covering the brake" and tapping it occasionally down the steep incline, but there was ice on the road and when i tapped the brakes the car began to spin and hit the concrete median on all 4 corners of the vehicle with pretty strong force. The seat belt correctly locked down on the driver side, but the air bag did not deploy properly. The air bag light was illuminated and i could smell like something was burning. I assumed this was the compound used in the air bag. When the police arrived, i was given a citation for driving too fast for the conditions and another because the insurance recently lapsed. The tow truck driver took the car to the bottom of the hill (driving too fast for the conditions by the way) and declared the car drivable since there were no fluids leaking and the car would still crank. The fuel system had to be reset, because it correctly shut off due to the impact. The seatbelt was locked down completely and would not release. Since there was no snow beyond the sam's gap area, i decided to drive home and park the car because i did not have money for a hotel or for additional towing and the person at the nc welcome center said we were experiencing blizzard conditions. So rather than freeze to death or ask someone else to put themselves in danger to come get me i drove him with the airbag / seatbelt lights alarming. Since my vehicle was new i have complained to the dealership, and online, that the optional brake and accelerator pedal height adjustment rocker switch is wired improperly. That is, wired in reverse. The mounted switch clearly depicts a foot over a pedal in the center with an arrow pointing 'up' at the top of the switch and an arrow pointing 'down' at the bottom of the switch. This controls the height adjustment of both pedals from the floor and is designed to place the pedals within reach of the operator. On several occasions members of my family have depressed this switch while in motion pushing the top portion of the rocker switch assuming the pedals would rise 'up' as indicated by the arrows on the switch. Wrong!! Pressing the switch in the upward position 'lowers' the pedals to the floor, while pressing the lower portion of the switch, with the arrow pointing 'down', actually raises the pedals up, closer to the operator. After pressing the switch several times in the up position and believing the pedals were at their maximum height, several of the drivers in the house whom have short legs, were immediately panicked and desperately began trying to compensate by readjusting the seat to be within reach of the brake! A scary and dangerous condition while the vehicle is in motion! If ford refuses to simply reverse the operation of the switch, maybe a safety interlock could be devised to prevent operation while the vehicle is in gear. *tr
