Leaving home to go to the grocery store and as I exited my street a dash warning came on stating "Power Steering Assist" fault Steering wheel locked up making it impossible for me to steer. Fortunately this happened in a spot where there was no other traffic and I was able to just turn off the car and restart and the message was gone and my steering was restored. I am now terrified to drive my car because if this had happened in traffic there could have been a serious accident because steering capability was non existent. . In reading online this is a very common problem with my make and model and apparently there was a recall by Ford for 2011 and later cars but not 2010 even though it is a "known problem" at dealerships. For me this now seems intermittent but in calling the dealership they know of the issue. It would cost me about $2200 to fix. I am happy to provide my vehicle for inspection. Thank you so much for your help ... greatly appreciated

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Flex. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a metal clicking and scraping sound coming from underneath the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that the wheels felt loose. The contact stated that a nearby driver informed her that sparks were coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact drove the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The contact stated that a nearby driver identified that the rack and pinion had detached. In addition, the power steering fluid had leaked out onto the ground. The contact was driving on a busy highway during the failure occurred. The contact stated that her grandchildren were in the vehicle when the failure occurred. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

Vehicle loses power steering intermittently upon vehicle startup as well as in motion. Vehicle is then extremely hard to control without power steering. Message " POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" prints to the instrument cluster above the steering wheel. Turning the vehicle off and back on may resolve problem but it returns within a couple key cycles.

AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND WHILE STILL STATIONARY THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED A 'POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT' AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CAR IS VERY HAD TO STEER AFTER GETTING THIS ERROR MESSAGE. I WAS ABLE TO STOP AND RE-START THE CAR AND THE ERROR MESSAGE WAS NOT DISPLAYED AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR. THE ERROR IS NOW HAPPENING EVERY 2-3 DAYS DEPENDING ON THE FREQUENCY IT IS DRIVEN. IF THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING IT IS VERY DANGEROUS.

While driving at 65mph, vehicle started to accelerate funny and cel came on. was getting on the freeway and the vehicle overheated and CEL light came on. I was able to safely pull over before the vehicle died. Got vehicle towed to my home and when engine oil was checked, it was discovered that there was coolant in the oil. Took to a local shop where it was determined that the water pump had failed and dumped all of the coolant into the oil pan. Estimated cost of repair with labor is $5,000. Failure mileage was ~192,000. The oil was in good standing and gold in color 12 hours prior and was only driven ~45 miles at highway speeds before the failure happened. From what I can tell, this was a catastrophic failure of the water pump bearing seal that happened almost instantaneously. This needs to be looked into, as the repair bill does not match the issue. A water pump repair should not cost more than the vehicle.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PLANET FORD LOCATED AT (20403 I-45, SPRING, TX 77388 281-719-3700) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A DIAGNOSTIC TEST COULD NOT BE SCHEDULED FOR 6-8 WEEKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 192,000.

2010 FORD FLEX WITH DURATEC 3.5L ENGINE - SUDDEN WATER PUMP FAILURE CAUSES COOLANT TO FLOOD THE ENGINE, WHICH CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT AND CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING, WITHOUT WARNING. WE HAVE REPLACED THE TURBOS IN OR FORD FLEX ECOBOOST 5 TIMES WITHIN 2.5 YEARS!! THE FRONT AND REAR TURBOS BOTH JUST WENT AGAIN WITHIN ONE MONTH OF EACH OTHER!! WE WERE FINALLY TOLD BY A LINCOLN MECHANIC THE ISSUE IS A BAD/FAULTY OIL SEPERATOR MADE BY FORD. IT IS PUSHING TOO MUCH OIL INTO THE TURBOS CAUSING THEM TO LITERALLY BLOW UP!! SMOKE EVERYWHERE AND CAR IS UNDRIVABLE. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN AND THIS IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS!!

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Flex. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brakes seized. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was unable to pull to the side of the road. The contact stated that the vehicle responded as needed after waiting for a while. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the brake master cylinder, the brake booster, the vacuum pump, the brake calipers, the brake check valve, the brakes lines, and the brake pedal sensor were replaced. Additionally, the ECM was replaced and reprogrammed; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the failure occurred when the brake fluid was hot after driving 15-20 miles. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

I AM THE OWNER OF A 2010 FORD FLEX, VIN #[XXX]. MY VEHICLE SUFFERS FROM EPISODIC BRAKE FAILURES. THIS OCCURS AS THE VEHICLE IS FIRST DRIVEN OFF AND THE ENGINE IS COLD. BRAKING POWER IS THEN REDUCED TO 10% OF NORMAL, RESULTING IN ALARMINGLY LONG STOPPING DISTANCES. ONCE DRIVEN A FEW MILES THE BRAKES RESUME NORMAL FUNCTION. THE ISSUE SURFACED AT 20,000 MILES IN JANUARY 2010. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM AT LEAST 4 TIMES. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN PINPOINTED TO A PROBABLE VACUUM LOSS PRESENT ONLY ON THESE VEHICLES THAT ARE DRIVEN AT ALTITUDE ABOVE 7000 FEET AND SHARE THE FLEXES?? ECOBOOST AWD DRIVE TRAIN. I LIVE AT 9000 FT. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, SUMMIT FORD OF SILVERTHORNE COLORADO, HAS ACKNOWLEDGED I AM NOT ALONE WITH A VEHICLE EXPERIENCING THIS DANGEROUS MECHANICAL PROBLEM BUT ADMITS TO BEING UNABLE TO FIX IT AND HAS NOTHING FURTHER TO OFFER. 2010 FORD FLEX BAD BRAKE ISSUE. I LIVE AT HIGH ALTITUDE AND HAVE A FORD FLEX ECO BOOST THAT PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY UP UNTIL ABOUT 21K MILES WHEN WE HAD A BRAKE FAILURE, THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE CAR. THE DEALER REPLACED A MASTER BRAKE BOOSTER AND SINCE THAT TIME WE INTERMITTENTLY GET A HARD BRAKE PEDAL AND NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU PUSH THE PEDAL THE CAR WILL NOT STOP. THERE IS ANOTHER PERSON ALSO LIVING AT THE SAME ALTITUDE ABOUT 9,200 FEET IN SUMMIT COUNTY CO WHO HAD THE EXACT SAME SERIES OF EVENTS ALTHOUGH CURRENTLY HE IS DOWN IN TEXAS WITH NO ISSUES. A THIRD PERSON IN WYOMING WHO IS ABOUT 6,000 FEET IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. POTENTIAL BRAKING FAILURE. DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED AFTER SECOND VISIT THAT A FACTORY DEFECT CAUSED THE FRONT CALIPERS TO BECOME LOOSE FROM THE RESPECTED BACKING PLATES AND HAVE ENLARGED THE MOUNTING HOLES. THE FRONT CALIPERS, ROTORS, AND BACKING PLATES MUST BE REPLACED. VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY.

TRANSMISSION AND POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU). THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SHIFTING AWKWARDLY SINCE 10,000 MILES. HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE. A MECHANIC AT LARRY H. MILLER FORD, IN LAKEWOOD CO, RECENTLY TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION MIGHT OR SHOULD BE RECALLED IN THE FUTURE. AT 87,506 MILES THE PTU WENT OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1,692.26. THE PTU CAME ORIGINALLY WITHOUT A DRAIN PLUG AND WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO SERVICE. REPLACEMENT PTU DOES HAVE A DRAIN PUG. I BELIEVE BOTH THE TRANSMISSION AND PTU ARE DEFECTIVE DESIGNS AND NEED TO BE RECALLED.

ON MARCH 11TH, THE FORD FLEX COLLIDED AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN AN EXPEDITION TURNED UNSAFELY LEFT IN FRONT OF THE WEST BOUND FLEX. ALTHOUGH THE AIR BAGS INFLATED, THEY QUICKLY DEFLATED BECAUSE OF TWO LARGE HOLES. SEE THE PHOTOS. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE WAS WEARING HIS SEAT- BELT BUT CONTINUES TO EXPERIENCE CHEST PAIN.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FLEX. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE CONTACT CRASHED HEAD ON INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AFTER THE OTHER VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE CRASH. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE POLICE ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT DUE TO THE IMPACT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO FORCE THE DOOR OPEN IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE CONTACT FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ADVISED THE DEALER THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE DEALER STATED THAT WAS A SIGN THAT THE AIR BAG WAS NOT FUNCTIONING; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE CONTACT ADVISED THE POLICE AND THE DEALER THAT SHE THOUGHT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS SUPPOSE TO REMAIN ON TO INDICATE THAT IT WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL THEM REGARDING THE AIR BAG FAILURE AFTER SHE SPOKE TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THE BODY DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE CONSTANT PAIN. THE OTHER DRIVER IN THE VEHICLE THAT CAUSED THE CRASH WAS ALSO INJURED. THE CONTACT REQUIRED IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. MY WIFE AND I WERE PREPARING TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE, OUTSIDE OF AN APPLEBEE'S RESTAURANT. WHEN SHE TAPPED ON THE GAS PADDLE TO PULL INTO THE PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD EXTREMELY FAST, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO JUMP THE CURB. HERE IMMEDIATE REACTION WAS PRESSING THE BRAKE, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP UNTIL IT CRASHED INTO THE RESTAURANT. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NOT ANY CIVILIANS WALKING IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. The contact owns a 2010 Ford Flex. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the steering wheel became firm, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and was able to restart the vehicle after 3 attempts. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to the oil mixing with the coolant. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.

MY 2010 FORD FLEX STATION WAGON HAS SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH ALLOWING EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN ACCELERATING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, WHEN PASSING A CAR OR WITH ALL OF THE WINDOWS OPEN. THESE VENTS SENSE THE BALANCE IN PRESSURE AND OPEN WHEN THEY SHOULD NOT. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIPS FOR THE SAME PROBLEMS. FOUR SEPARATE TIMES THE SERVICE MANAGERS AND MECHANICS HAVE TOLD ME THAT THIS IS NEW PROBLEM AND I AM THE ONLY ONE THEY HAVE HEARD OF WITH THIS EXHAUST LEAKING INTO THE VEHICLE. CURRENTLY THERE IS NO SOLUTION OR REPAIR THEY CAN DO TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. THERE ARE 2 VENTS BEHIND THE REAR BUMPER OF THAT ALLOW THE CABIN TO EQUALIZE PRESSURE WHEN THE DOORS CLOSE. THESE VENTS DO NOT WORK CORRECTLY ALLOWING THE EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAD RECEIVED THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. THEY CALLED AND I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN. THE VEHICLE SAT FOR 24 HOURS AND I WAS CALLED AND TOLD TO GO RENT A VEHICLE BECAUSE OF A MECHANIC DELAY. BEFORE I GOT HOME MY VEHICLE WAS STOLEN FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE STOLEN FROM THE LOT. WITHIN TWO DAYS OF TALKING TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY I FOUND ANOTHER FORD FLEX HAD BEEN STOLEN FROM THE SAME DEALERSHIP. THIS VEHICLE HAD THE SAME THREE RECURRING PROBLEMS AS MY VEHICLE. A THIRD VEHICLE HAS SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND HAS BEEN IN EIGHT TIMES FOR THE EXHAUST REPAIRS. THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM AND THE TRANSMISSION ALSO HAVE BEEN SERVICED FOR DIFFERENT PROBLEMS ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND STILL THE PROBLEMS KEEP RECURRING. 2010 FORD FLEX 2ND ROW OF SEATS 40/60. THE LARGER SEAT HAS LOCKED INTO POSITION CAUSED BY A CABLE PART THAT CAN SLIP OUT OF PLACE. SEAT WILL NOT FLIP UP OR DOWN. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT CONTROLS HAVE STOPPED WORKING IN MY 2010 FORD FLEX, LEAVING MY SEAT WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO MOVE (FORWARD, BACKWARD, UP OR DOWN) TO MEET THE NEEDS OF DIFFERENT DRIVERS. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS DISCOVERED IN SUMMER 2013 - ELIMINATING THE ABILITY FOR MY WIFE/CO-OWNER TO REGULARLY DRIVE THE CAR. MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WAS GOOD TO WORK WITH WHEN I BROUGHT IN THE CAR TO BE FIXED. UNFORTUNATELY - THE FIX DID NOT WORK - NOR DID THE 2 ADDITIONAL TIMES I BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO BE REPAIRED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FLEX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT FAILED TO STAYED LATCH DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CUDDLE CATCH THAT HOLDS THE SEAT IN PLACE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. While traveling at highway speeds 75+ a loud bang and then control of vehicle was hard to keep on road, swerved left then right, left rear quarter panel hit guard rail and caused car to spin around and went sideways and backwards down a 30 ft embankment. Fortunately did not roll. left side tires came off of rims and damage to driver side door was done. Highway Patrol had car towed to holding lot, where I then got car towed to my mechanic. The left side Lateral stabilizer Rod had broken due to rusted part, causing left rear wheel to go out of alignment. The rubber boot on the rod was attached, rust was internal would never had known about a problem. Had both lateral rods replaced tires re-balanced and alignment done.

Vehicle was shaking in the rear area for some time at highway speeds. I took the vehicle in to the local tire shop to get the alignment checked. After that the vehicle still shook. I took the vehicle back to the tire shop and the alignment was already off quite a bit in the back tires. I took the vehicle in to the local ford dealership and was informed that the rear passenger toe link was cracking. This was replaced and the vehicle still shakes/vibrates a little bit at highway speeds. After tire rotation ,the vibration is getting better. The toe link had caused the tires to wear down inconsistently, which caused the secondary vibration.

Rear suspension toe-link failure on left side. Incident occurred without any notice at speed of approximately 30-35 MPH on highway after pulling away from having stopped for traffic light at intersection. Vehicle swerved uncontrollably to right at approximately 45 degrees, then began slow drift to left during which I was finally able to regain control by applying throttle pressure and torque to front wheels to pull it forward. This fortunately occurred on a multi-lane roadway with no other traffic to either side of vehicle. No insurance claim has been filed as vehicle was otherwise undamaged during this event, but it was towed to Vogler Ford, Carbondale, IL, where it remains in their service lot. It is available for inspection. I do not know if they have discussed this situation with any Ford Motor Co. personnel.

I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A BRAKE FAILURE ON OUR 2010 FORD FLEX. THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE HOSE FAILED DUE TO CONTACT WITH THE TIRE. THIS RESULTED IN THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR AND A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN BRAKING PERFORMANCE. THE BRAKE HOSE FAILURE WAS THE RESULT OF IMPROPER ROUTING OF THE BRAKE LINE THAT HAPPENED WHEN THE CALIPER WAS REPLACED. THE ISSUE HERE IS THAT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT NEVER ACTIVATED EVEN AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE CHECKED THE BULB BY PUTTING THE CAR IN THE RUN POSITION AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT DOES ILLUMINATE AT THAT TIME. HEARD NOISE FROM FRONT BRAKES, LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE WHEN BRAKING. TOLD THAT THE BOLTS FOR THE CALIPERS WERE NOT CORRECT AND THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. WAITED FOR PARTS TO COME IN AND HAD REPLACED. NO OTHER ISSUES WITH FRONT BRAKES. JUST HAD FRONT REPLACED AT 75,000 MILES. REAR BRAKES I HAVE HAD IN AT LEAST EVERY SIX MONTHS TO HAVE EVALUATED OR WORKED ON. HEARD SQUEALING NOISE FROM REAR PASSENGER BRAKES AND ROTOR WOULD GET HOT. I THOUGHT THE CALIPER WAS FREEZING. I KEPT TAKING IT IN AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE METALLIC PADS UNTIL FINALLY I STOPPED IN AND SHOWED THE RED HOT ROTOR. REPLACED BOTH REAR ROTORS, CALIPERS AND PADS. HAD TO REPLACE AGAIN AFTER 6 MONTHS AND THEN 1 YEAR LATER. I AGAIN THOUGHT THE CALIPERS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THEY "CLEANED" MY SLIDERS AND TURNED MY ROTORS. LESS THAN 2 MONTHS LATER, I TOOK TO MY TIRE DEALER FOR TIRE ROTATION AND THEY STATED MY BACK PASSENGER CALIPER WAS FROZEN AND UNEVEN WEAR ON MY PADS WERE NOTICED. I TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY DENIED THE CALIPERS WERE BAD. CHANGED PADS AND TURNED ROTORS AGAIN. PADS ON EACH REAR WHEEL HAD ONE PAD THAT LOOK LIKE IT CAME BRAND NEW OUT OF THE BOX AND THE OTHER WAS DOWN TO METAL.THEY TOLD ME THE SLIDERS NEED TO BE CLEANED ON A REGULAR BASIS AS PART OF THE MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR. I STATED WHERE IN MY OWNERS MANUAL IS THIS AND DIDN'T YOU JUST DO THAT A MONTH AND A HALF AGO? UNKNOWN I was on the highway during dry conditions, and very suddenly fishtailed and swerved into another lane. Caused an accident. Could have been much worse. Rear driver's side wheel is not facing forward - tow driver says looks like a broken toe link. Insurance company has possession of the vehicle and will likely total the car, with no inspection by a repair shop.

constant failure of the blend door actuator causes a clicking noise in the cabin upon starting the vehicle, or switching from vent mode to defrost mode. Also happens intermittently when activating the air conditioning. the clicking is loud enough to be heard from outside the vehicle. Unit has been replaced 4 times in 2 years. usually only lasts about a month before the unit starts to click again.

My 2010 Ford Flex began inadvertently surging forward in acceleration without me making it do this exactly 3 months after I purchased the vehicle. The Ford Dealer was unable to re-produce the problem on several occasions and said my vehicle was fine. No error messages reported in the computer. This has continued to happen sporadically since ownership. I have had another Ford Dealership (as well as an independent mechanic) try and reproduce and diagnose the problem with no luck. Several weeks ago I was driving my vehicle in my residential neighborhood when all of a sudden my car surged forward with great acceleration with no warning. I had to swerve into a driveway and cut the vehicle off to get the vehicle under control. I am 82 and have a heart condition. This safety issue is critical as someone could get hurt or killed. Ford has several complaints of this happening with several models. I believe it is a Ford design flaw in the vehicles electronic throttle system. Ford Corporate was put on notice of these events after the latest safety event. Please, I urge the NHTSA to issue a recall before lives are lost. I can no longer drive this vehicle as I am concerned someone is going to get hurt. It is being towed to the Ravenel Ford Dealership for inspection and diagnosis again.....

SPECIFICALLY, WHEN IN AUTOMATIC MODE-CLOSING, THE SAFETY REVERSE FEATURE IS NOT SENSITIVE ENOUGH TO REVERSE THE DOOR'S CLOSING APPROPRIATELY. THE ONLY THING THAT GETS THE HATCH TO "BOUNCE BACK" OR REVERSE UP IS WHEN SOMETHING LIKE A STATIONARY AND HARD OBJECT (LIKE AN ADULT'S SHOULDER WHEN STANDING STILL) IS IN THE WAY. LITERALLY, WHEN THE REAR HATCH IS LOWERING, YOU CAN GRAB IT AND TRY TO PULL IT BACK, AND IT DOES NOT STOP. I HAVE TURNED OFF THE AUTOMATIC FEATURE BECAUSE I FEAR FOR MY OWN SAFETY AND THAT OF MY TWO BOYS -- 9 AND 12. MY NEIGHBORS HAVE DIFFERENT VEHICLES WITH A SIMILAR AUTOMATIC REAR HATCH "BOUNCE BACK" FEATURE, AND WHEN I LOOKED AT HOW THEY FUNCTIONED, I REALIZED THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG. THEY ALL STOPPED AND REVERSED DIRECTION AT ANY KIND OF BUMP. WHEN I RAISED THIS ISSUE WITH THE DEALER, THEY TESTED IT AND COMPARED IT TO THE OTHER FLEXES ON THE LOT. THEY SAID THEY ALL WORKED THE SAME WAY. BUT THAT MEANS THEY ALL ARE FLAWED THEN. I ASKED IF THEY COULD ADJUST THE SENSITIVITY OF THE BOUNCE BACK FEATURE, BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT. THAT ANSWER IS NO ANSWER WHEN I HAVE TO TURN OFF THE AUTOMATIC REAR HATCH FEATURE TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE. IT SHOULD BE MORE SENSITIVE TO OBJECT IN THE WAY, LIKE A HAND, FINGER, HEAD, ETC, AND REVERSE IMMEDIATELY UPON IMPACTING THE OBJECT. THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET IT TO STOP WAS TO STAND DIRECTLY UNDER IT AND HAVE IT COME DOWN ON MY SHOULDER AS I WAS STANDING STILL, AND THAT WAS A HARD PUSH DOWN ON MY SHOULDER. THAT SCENARIO IS NOT REALISTIC. LITTLE HANDS (AND BIG ONES), AS WELL AS OTHER BODY PARTS, CAN GET IN THE WAY. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED SO I CAN ENJOY THE AUTO FEATURE I PAID FOR WITHOUT HURTING ANYONE. *TR

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2010 FORD FLEX, WITH A CLASS III TRAILER TOW PACKAGE. THE PACKAGE,ACCORDING TO FORD'S BROCHURE IS SUPPOSED TO INCLUDE A TIRE MOBILITY KIT. THE KIT, AS I UNDERSTAND IT, IS ESSENTIALLY MADE UP OF AN AIR COMPRESSOR AND A CAN OF SEALANT COMPOUND USED TO PLUG A HOLE IN A TIRE. THEREFORE THE COMPRESSOR INJECTS THE SEALANT COMPOUND,WHILE INFLATING THE TIRE. ON PAGE 309, OF THE OWNER'S GUIDE, IS THE FOLLOWING WARNING: " WARNING: WHEN TOWING A TRAILER, USE THE TEMPORARY MOBILITY KIT AND NOT THE MINI SPARE TIRE IF NECESSARY. THE MINI SPARE TIRE IS NOT INTENDED FOR THE HIGHER TOWING LOAD LIMITS OF THIS VEHICLE. WHEN TOWING HEAVY LOADS WITH THE MINI SPARE TIRE, VEHICLE HANDLING MAY BE DIMINISHED, WHICH COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF CONTROL, AND SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY." MY CAR IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH THE TIRE MOBILITY KIT, AND THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TELLS ME, "IF YOUR CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A SPARE TIRE, IT WILL NOT BE EQUIPPED WITH THE TIRE MOBILITY KIT". IT SEEMS STUPID TO ME, AND PERHAPS CRIMINAL, THAT THEY INCLUDE THE WARNING IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND REFUSE TO PROVIDE THE SAFETY EQUIPMENT THEY CLAIM TO BE NECESSARY, AND WHICH THEY CLAIM IS INCLUDED IN THEIR SALES BROCHURE. INCIDENTALLY, IT TOOK THE SALESMAN TWO WEEKS TO COME UP WITH FORD'S EXPLANATION, AND HE SAID, "IT'S ALL HUSH HUSH". *TR

2010 FORD FLEX 2000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING @ 35 MILES PER HOUR , CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR STALLED. GAS ACCELERATOR WAS INOPERABLE. OPERATOR WAS ABLE TO DRIVE INTO A PARKING LOT CLOSE BY AND BRING CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP WITHOUT ANY INCIDENT. CAR TURNED ON AFTER THE 5TH ATTEMPT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISAPPEARED. THE 1ST OCCURRENCE, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE STARTED RIGHT AWAY. THIS 2ND OCCURRENCE IT TOOK AWHILE. THEREFORE, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ( NORTH PARK LINCOLN FORD IN SAN ANTONIO, TX )ON 06/09/10 AND OBD CAME BACK WITH NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES. HELLO, 2ND ROW SEATING. THE LOWER ANCHORS OF THE LATCH SYSTEM ARE NOT LARGE ENOUGH TO PROPERLY CLIP THE BUCKLES OF CERTAIN BRITAX CHILD SEATS. WHEN VIEWING THE CHILD SEAT'S LATCH BUCKLES FROM THE SIDEVIEW, IT RESEMBLES A SPERM WHALE'S HEAD. THE LATCH PART OF THE BUCKLE IS THE MOUTH OF THE WHALE, THE UPPER (LARGER) PART OF THE BUCKLE IS THE HEAD, AND THE NARROW PART WOULD BE THE LOWER JAW. IF BOTH BUCKLES OF THE CHILD SEAT ARE MANUFACTURED WITH THE NARROW PART FACING DOWN, THEN THE CLIPS WILL LATCH PROPERLY. BUT IF THE CLIPS ARE MANUFACTURED WITH THE LARGE PART FACING DOWN, THEN THE CLIPS WILL ONLY FIT EITHER BY CLIPPING ALMOST VERTICALLY (PARALLEL TO THE SEATBACK), OR BY TWISTING THE BUCKLE UPSIDE DOWN. SO, IT IS THE "HOOP" PART OF THE ANCHOR THAT IS NOT LARGE ENOUGH. NOTE: WE HAVE SEVERAL BRITAX CHILD SEATS WHERE EACH SEAT'S BUCKLES ARE MOUNTED DIFFERENTLY ON THE SEAT ITSELF. ONE SEAT HAS BOTH BUCKLES WITH THE NARROW SIDES DOWN, ANOTHER WITH THE NARROW SIDES UP, AND ONE SEAT WITH THE NARROW SIDE OF THE BUCKLE UP AND DOWN. NEED ADVISE. THANK YOU!
