The contact owns a 2015 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, he observed a burning odor in the cabin of the vehicle, and the steering wheel became stiff, requiring significant effort to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and restarted on several occasions. However, over time, the failure reoccurred more frequently. The contact stated that after the failure had occurred, the messages "Service Power Steering” and “Stabili-trak" were displayed. The contact was almost involved in two crashes due to the failure. The contact then received notice of an unknown recall, and the vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the dealer acknowledged the recall repair. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the cover to a power sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred two months later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

GMC CANYON LOOSES STEERING ASSIST WHILE DRIVING AND THE WHEEL HAS TO BE TURNED BY APPLYING A LOT OF FORCE. HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING A BUSY ROAD IN JULY 10 2025. MYSELF, SISTER AND NIECE ALMOST GOT KILLED TRYING TO GET THE VEHICLE FROM THE HOV LANE TO THE SHOULDER. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPRODUCED AT THE DEALERSHIP GMC YOUNG IN LAYTON UTAH AND PRICE TO FIX IS $3,500 US DOLLARS THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER, INSURANCE OR POLICE. MESSAGE SERVICE INTELLITRACK DRIVE WITH CARE CAME UP AND WHEEL LOCKED UP. THERE WERE NO MESSAGES BEFORE THE PROBLEM APPEARED.

Around ~2017, power steering failed while driving and a safety recall was performed on the torque sensor cover. Later, the whole rack and pinion module was replaced. In ~2025, power steering failed again, and again the whole rack and pinion is getting replaced. Both times the failure occurred on a windy mountain road and was nearly catastrophic.

The message "Check Power Steering" was displayed. The local dealer was contacted; however, the dealer refused to diagnose the vehicle unless the contact paid for the diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure persisted and became progressively worse. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (STEERING); but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

SEVERAL TIMES OVER PAST MONTH AND TIME SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE . THE POWER STEERING MODULE WILL GO OUT DURING DRIVING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS POWER STEERING IS LOST AND I RECEIVE WARNING CHIME AND AM NOT ABLE TO STEER PROPERLY. I AM VERY CONCERNED THIS COULD CAUSE A CRASH. POWER STEERING AND STABILITRAK INTERMITTENTLY GO OUT. HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AND ALSO WHILE TURNING. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC NEARBY WHILE TURNING. IT DOES SO WITHOUT WARNING AND WILL RESET AFTER TURNING VEHICLE OFF (SOMETIMES TAKES MORE THAN ONE TRY). DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 50 MPH AND, WITHOUT WARNING, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. AFTER THE FAILURE, WARNINGS APPEARED TELLING ME TO HAVE POWER STEERING AND STABILITRAK SERVICED.THERE WAS NO WARNING, NO PRIOR ISSUES. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HAD IS HAPPENED IN THE SHARP CURVE OR TURN AS THE ONLY EASY WAY TO STEER THIS TRUCK WITHOUT POWER STEERING IS GOING STRAIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET THE TRUCK HOME, BUT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. TOOK TRUCK TO THE GM DEALER AND THEY REPORT THAT THE "STEERING GEARBOX LOST COMMUNICATION WITH THE POWER STEERING MODULE. A FAILED STEERING ASSEMBLY." AFTER RESEARCHING AND FINDING THAT THIS IS A KNOWN AND COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2015 CANYON AND COLORADO, I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF A STEERING RECALL AND THAT IT WILL BE $2,300 TO FIX IT. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 33,000 MILES ON IT AND IS WELL KEPT. TO ME, THIS IS A MANUFACTURER QUALITY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS A GM SAFETY FAILURE AND RECALL. GMS FAILURE TO EXPAND THE RECALL AROUND THE STEERING ISSUES IN THESE VEHICLES IS GOING TO RESULT IN A MAJOR TRAGEDY. AND MANY PEOPLE SEEM TO BE PAYING A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX A KNOWN ISSUE AND FAILURE ON THE PART OF THE MANUFACTURER.

WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE SERVICE POWER STEERING DRIVE WITH CARE WARNING COMES ON AND I IMMEDIATELY LOSE CONTROL OF STEERING ASSIST PULLING THE STEERING FROM MY HANDS. SECONDS LATER A SERVICE STABILITRAK WARNING COMES ON. I CAN PULL OVER AND TURN THE TRUCK OFF AND THE POWER STEERING RETURNS WHEN STARTED. IT CAN CONTINUE WORKING FOR A FEW MINUTES OR A FEW DAYS THERE'S NO PATTERN TO ITS MALFUNCTION. THE RECALL DATE IS JANUARY 6 2015 TO MARCH 19 2015 AND MY TRUCK WAS MANUFACTURED IN APRIL 2015 SO MY TRUCK DOESN'T COME UP IN THE RECALL. BUT I FEEL THEY NOT ONLY MADE A MISTAKE IN THE MANUFACTURING CAUSING THE RECALL BUT THEY MADE A MISTAKE IN THE RECALL WINDOW AND IT SHOULD BE EXTENDED BEYOND MARCH 19TH. I HAVE TAKEN MY TRUCK TO A DEALER AND THEY HAVE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS INTERMITTENT STEERING GEAR FAILURE AND ARE CHARGING ME $2339.00 TO FIX WHAT I BELIEVE SHOULD BE PART OF GMS RECALL. I HAVE ATTACHED PHOTOS OF THE DASH WARNINGS AND THE SPEED THAT IT HAPPENED. THIS MALFUNCTION IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS IN A TURN.

I WAS TAKING OFF FROM A STOP SIGN AND TURNING RIGHT INTO TRAFFIC. ACCELERATION WAS MODERATE WHILE COMPLETING THE TURN WHERE I HAD TO REDUCE THE THROTTLE TO PREVENT THE TIRES FROM SPINNING. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO TOO HIGH OF A GEAR AS A RESULT AND DID NOT DOWNSHIFT WHEN 50% PLUS THROTTLE POSITION WAS APPLIED. ENGINE HAD LACK OF POWER. I HAD TO STOMP IT TO THE FLOOR TO GET IT TO DOWNSHIFT. BY THIS TIME TRAFFIC WAS COMING UP ON ME FAST BECAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVE DELAY TRYING TO GET THE TRANSMISSION TO RESPOND. THE TRUCK HAS THE MOST CURRENT SOFTWARE UPDATES BASED ON WHAT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME.

My wife drives this vehicle. Ever since the 2021 recall "fix", we've been having intermittent issues with two errors; service stabilitrak light and loss of power steering in the truck. This poses major safety issues as my wife is not strong enough to drive without power steering. Once the vehicle is turned off, it resets and the other goes away, but comes back randomly while driving. Latest incident listed below. We've had it looked at multiple times just to have an inability to reproduce the issue at the dealership or shop, except for this most recent time. They said the fix that was done for the safety recall in 2021 didn't actually fix the issue, which was the steering rack needing replaced at $1600. It's unbelievable to think the GM will not actually fix a known safety issue across many Colorados and Canyons (quick Internet search will prove the vastness of the issue). As you can see from the uploaded recall letter, this is the exact issue that still has not been addressed with a fix. Whatever they did before did not fix it at all.

Without any warning, loss of power steering and the stabilitrak light comes on. This happens going 5 mph in a parking lot or 65 mph on the freeway. Causing loss of power steering making it hard to control the truck. I see there has been recalls on the power steering issues but my truck falls just outside the window. I feel that this recall should be for all trucks that have the issue, major safety issue when traveling with kids in the truck.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WOODY BUICK GMC (1585 W OGDEN AVE, NAPERVILLE, IL 60540, (888) 461-9066) BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,479.

IN THE LAST WEEK MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT 5 TIMES ON MY 2015 GMC CANYON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED IT WITH RACK AND PINION FAILURE. I RESEARCH THIS AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS AND GMC REFUSES TO RECALL. AND FIX IT. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AS YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AT ALL. P PLEAS HELP AS IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND A HAZARD.

I have had this car for 4 years and have had to replace 7 door locks. All quit working. The doors will not lock when the buttons are pushed which is a major security issue.

GMC Service Bulletin - PI1429B Ignition Key cannot be removed and /or does not rotate to the off position. If you place the truck in park and turn off the switch - the key does not rotate to the off position (it only goes to the accessory position) so you cannot remove the key. You have to start it back up and move the truck forward and backward a number of times until the key is able to be removed. There are numerous posts on GMC and Chevrolet forums throughout the internet on this same issue. Cannot imagine why this safety concern is not being addressed with a recall. Gear shift assembly or Part # 23397472 is the most common posts. This happened numerous times but on 03/23/2022 it has happened every time I have tried to turn the truck off.

Key gets stuck in the ignition switch. Truck will turn off but key will not come out. It is sometimes hours before the key will release. The dash lights stay on during the period the key is stuck and the battery dies. I have to leave my truck unattended, for extended amounts of time, with the key in the ignition. This has been going on since two years after the purchase of the truck, as new, in 2015. Technicians and the dealership have not been able to repair. An online search indicates this is a widespread issue and Gm has issued a bulletin. This needs to be a recall.

WHILE BEING IN A STATIONARY POSITION, MY VEHICLE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. IF THE KEY IS INSERTED AND IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTED TO BE REMOVED, IT WILL COME OUT WITH NO ISSUES. HOWEVER, IF THE KEY IS INSERTED AND THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN, THE KEY WILL BE STUCK IN THE ACCESSORY 'ACC' POSITION. THE KEY WILL REMAIN STUCK FOR OVER 10-15 MINUTES UNTIL IT CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. (THE LONGEST WAIT TIME WAS 30 MINUTES) THIS ISSUE HAS CAUSED POTENTIAL THEFT FOR OUR TRUCK AND THREAT TO OUR OWN SAFETY. IT HAS ALSO CAUSED THE VEHICLE BATTERY TO COMPLETELY DIE, DUE TO THE KEYS BEING STUCK IN THE ACC POSITION.

HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE AT THE SHOP FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES SEVERAL TIMES. TWO OF THE TIMES, ISSUES WERE DUPLICATED AND PARTS REPLACED, BUT SAME ISSUES CONTINUE AS SOON AS I GET IT BACK. MY COMPLAINT WHEN I TAKE IT IN IS ALWAYS THE SAME. NORMALLY WHEN I ACCELERATE FROM A DEAD STOP FORWARD OR REVERSE, THE TRANSMISSION MAKES A THUMPING NOISE. IT HAS STEADILY GOTTEN WORSE. A LOT OF TIMES NOW IF I TAKE MY FOOT OFF GAS FOR A SECOND, AT FASTER SPEEDS, AND THEN PUT FOOT RIGHT BACK ON GAS, IT MAKES THE SAME THUMPING NOISE AND SOMETIMES A GRINDING NOISE LIKE IT'S STUCK BETWEEN GEARS. THIS LAST TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND WOULD MOST LIKELY GET WORSE AS VEHICLE GETS OLDER.

THE TOUCH SCREEN DISPLAY HAS BECOME ERRATIC OR UNRESPONSIVE. SOMETIMES BUTTONS WILL BEGIN CLICKING ON THEIR OWN WHILE DRIVING. SUDDENLY THE DISPLAY CHANGES OR RADIO STATIONS WILL CHANGE. OTHER TIMES, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PRESS A BUTTON ON THE TOUCH SCREEN, THE SCREEN IS UNRESPONSIVE. ALL OF THIS FORCES THE DRIVER'S EYES OFF OF THE ROAD AND CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD. TRUCK LOCKED INTO LIMP MODE SUDDENLY ONE DAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE TRUCK WAS THEN STUCK IN ONE GEAR. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY WHO REPLACED THE FUSE BOX AFTER FINDING IT BURNT OUT. FAST FORWARD A MONTH LATER, SAME ISSUE OCCURS ON THE ROAD. BOTH ISSUES OCCURRED WHILE ACCELERATING DURING A TURN. TOOK TO MECHANIC AGAIN TO FIND TCM FUSE BURNT OUT AND CODES P0700 AND P2534 PRESENT. MECHANIC REPLACED FUSE AND STRETCHED OUT WIRE BUNDLE TO SEE IF WIRING WAS AN ISSUE. MECHANIC ALSO TOOK THE TRUCK ON A ROAD TEST TO TRY TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE TO NO AVAIL. AS OF NOW THE TRUCK IS WORKING AFTER THE FUSE WAS REPLACED, HOWEVER IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. *TR

Service brake assist light comes on and Vehicle loses braking power. Brake pedal gets hard and unable to stop if needed and has potential of injury / accidental death. This similar problem has been recalled in the larger trucks /SUVs due to safety issues. It appears it's also happening in the smaller truck's canyon and Colorado's as well, however no recalls. Many blogs online discussing the issues and failures of the braking system.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2015 GMC DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THEIR HUSBAND WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, WHEN THE TRAFFIC CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP CAUSING THE CONTACT TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKING PEDAL EXCESSIVELY, HOWEVER, THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP AND THE BRAKES WERE FLOORED. THE VEHICLE ENDED UP REAR ENDING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. THE AIR BAGS DID DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND TOTALED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE PASSENGER RECEIVED INJURIES TO THE CHEST AND LOWER ABDOMEN AREA. THE ONLY MEDICAL ATTENTION RECEIVED WAS BY EMT AT TIME OF THE CRASH. I WAS PARKED. WHEN I STARTED THE TRUCK I PUT IT IN REVERSE. WHILE BACKING UP I APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE POWER FOR THE BRAKES WAS GONE. I HAD TO SLAM AS HARD AS I COULD TO STOP THE TRUCK. A VERY SCARY SITUATION. I HEARD THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. I WENT TO THIS WEBSITE TO FIND OUT. IT STATES THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON THIS TRUCK. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. IF GMC PUTS A PRODUCT OUT LIKE THIS THEY SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER ALL HE SAID TO ME WAS IT DANGEROUS AND IT WOULD COST THIS MUCH TO CHECK IT OUT. NOTHING ABOUT IT WAS A RECALL OR NOT. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS ON THEM AS I STILL HAVE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK.

AFTER RESEARCHING TAILLIGHT PROBLEMS FOR MY MAKE AND MODEL THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS A RECALL BUT WHEN LOOKED INTO, I SEE IT IS NOT. ITS A SHAME TO SPEND SO MUCH MONEY ON A VEHICLE TO HAVE THE TAIL LIGHT OUT AT 3 YEARS (AFTER FACTORY WARRANTY IS ALREADY OUT) AND YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE TAIL LIGHT INSTEAD OF ONE PIECE.

ON COLD STARTS, THE ENGINE WILL STALL AT FIRST STOP. TYPICALLY THIS IS AT THE FIRST STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN IN THE MORNING ON THE WAY TO WORK. THIS IS BEGINNING TO HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. IT ALSO HAS HAPPENED AFTER SITTING FOR SEVERAL HOURS. IT ONLY APPEARS TO HAPPEN WHEN STARTING THE TRUCK AFTER THE ENGINE HAS COOLED. PRIOR TO STALLING, THE ENGINE WILL HESITATE AND THE RPMS DROP UNTIL ULTIMATELY STALLING. I HAVE CALLED THE GMC NUMBER AND HAVE ASKED THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK IT OUT. IT CANNOT BE DUPLICATED BY THEM AND THEY SAY GM HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL OR BULLETIN TO REPAIR.

I own a 2015 GMC Canyon that developed repeated and serious fuel-system and engine problems beginning around 56,000 miles. The vehicle experienced fuel contamination (water in the fuel system), multiple fuel injectors failing and sticking open, repeated misfires across several cylinders, and engine stalling/shutdown while driving. The truck was towed multiple times and repaired repeatedly by an authorized GMC dealership. Repairs included injector replacements, fuel pipe replacement, fuel-system cleaning, and related work. Technician notes show that broader repairs were recommended but not fully authorized, and the same problems continued to return. Despite the dealership later stating the vehicle was repaired, there is no written safety certification, no documented fuel-system integrity testing, and no GM engineering clearance confirming the vehicle is safe to operate. Because of the repeated failures and risk of fire or loss of power, I do not feel the vehicle is safe to drive. I personally paid over $6,000 out of pocket for fuel contamination repairs and spark plug replacement (not including towing), after warranty coverage denied some repairs as “water damage.” The vehicle has been unsafe or inoperable for extended periods. I am reporting this because repeated fuel-system failures and engine shutdown present a serious safety risk and may affect other vehicles of the same model.

MY 215 EXTENDED CAB, LONG BED GMC CANYON SLT HAS 13,000 MILES AND NO ACCIDENTS OR HARD DRIVING (ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY DRIVEN ON THE ROAD) WITH SOME SHORT HAULING OF LOADS LOCALLY (1500 LBS OR LESS). NO MAJOR WORK HAS BEEN DONE TO THE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION. TODAY (9 OCT 17), I WAS TAKING A SHORT DRIVE TO HOME DEPOT FROM MY HOUSE (~6 MI), ALMOST IMMEDIATELY I BEGAN TO SMELL A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE (TRAVELLED HALF A BLOCK)...I HAD JUST DRIVEN THE TRUCK ON FRIDAY TO WORK AND SMELLED NO ODOR, SO I THOUGHT IT MUST BE A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF AND THE GAS CONTINUED TO STREAM SLOWLY DOWN THE SIDE OF THE TANK - IT APPEARS TO BE ORIGINATING FROM THE WHERE THE FUEL LINES CONNECT TO THE IN-TANK FUEL PUMP ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. I COULD REACH THE TOP OF THE FILLER TUBE WITH MY HAND AND IT WAS DRY, WHEN I REMOVED THE FUEL CAP, THERE WAS NO PRESSURE SO THE FUEL MUST BE COMING FROM THE FUEL FEED LINE OR THE RETURN LINE CONNECTIONS. AFTER A FEW MINUTES WITH THE ENGINE OFF THE LEAK STOPPED. THE TANK WAS NOT OVERFLOWING BECAUSE IT WAS ONLY HALF FULL. I PLAN TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER IN ST LOUIS FOR REPAIRS. I THOUGHT THE LINES MIGHT HAVE BEEN CHEWED BY AN ANIMAL (SQUIRREL), BUT THE LINES ARE STEEL. I WILL FIND OUT MORE FROM THE DEALER ONCE IT IS REPAIRED.

the system failure is the power steering control module rack and components The safety risk is loss of power steering assist, no traction control, StabiliTrak message on dash, abs and traction control lights is on, don't feel safe to drive. The problem is confirmed by a dealer. The component has not been inspected. Yes, there are warning messages on the dash, and they appear in February 2022. A loss or reduction in power steering assist may increase the risk of a crash. In my opinion, this issue has to be solved and fixed by the dealer at no cost to the customer.

While driving the vehicle, the power steering suddenly went out. My teenage son was driving and luckily he's had training on this in Driver's Ed or it could have caused a major accident. It has since happened to me while on the freeway and while going up our driveway. I took it into the dealership where I purchased it and they could find nothing wrong, but clearly something is wrong with the wire harness or power steering. I suspect the parts used were part of an earlier recall on GMC Canyon's as the recall ended with vehicles only a month older than mine.

The contact's grandmother owned a 2015 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that her grandfather was driving approximately 60 MPH on the freeway while her grandmother was occupying the front passenger's side seat. The contact stated that while the driver was attempting to switch to the right lane, the steering wheel locked up and the vehicle shut off unexpectedly. The driver was unable to pull to the side of the road and turned on the hazard lights. The contact stated that another van driving 80 MPH crashed into the vehicle, and the van caught on fire; however, the vehicle of the contact's grandparents did not catch on fire. The vehicle was then rear-ended by three other vehicles, causing the bed of the vehicle to be smooshed into the cab, and the driver's side of the vehicle was smooshed into the center divider wall. The center divider wall might have been damaged. The driver sustained whiplash and was thrown across his wife's lap. The emergency services assisted the driver out of the vehicle and put the driver on a stretcher. The contact's grandmother was assisted out of the vehicle. The contact stated that only the driver's side and passenger's side curtain air bags deployed. The driver was transported to the hospital by emergency services. The contact stated that the driver sustained a crushed spine and severed lower nerves, causing the lower body paralysis. Additionally, the driver sustained broken ribs, 15-20 staples across his head, ruptured lungs, which caused a loss of 7 pints of blood. The driver received a transfusion of 5 pints of blood. The driver's wife sustained a bruised right cheekbone, soreness on the face, the hand, the thumb, and the body. Both passengers were currently receiving medical assistance. It was unknown whether the other drivers sustained injuries. A police report was filed, and the police confirmed that four vehicles had crashed into the vehicle. The police report information was not available. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Nov 14 2024 my truck steering locked up and lost lighting/ front lights including interior and crash into another vehicle head on going 65 mph. Also no airbag deployed. I hit my chest hard. Need help. Water damaged now after I crashed and now won’t start. Smoke wire smells so disconnected battery. I feel unsafe taking this vehicle in repair without any recalls. Stabiltrak system stops working randomly all the time. It is seemingly random. It can do it as soon as I crank the truck, but more commonly it happens when I am driving. The ABS also will cause the truck to pull harder in one direction either left or right randomly. I have to put pressure on the steering will in the opposite direction to keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane. Stabiltrak sensor 1st went off around October 2023. It typically doesn't come back on immediately if I power cycle the truck. No accident to report yet but when the power steering does no work while I'm driving, it is extremely hard to turn.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE DOWNWARD SLOPE OF THE STEEP MISSISSIPPI BRIDGE IN BATON ROUGE, LA AND LOSS MY POWER STEERING CONTROL. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. I COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS A MONTH AGO WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK TO GERRY LANE GMC. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A BAD BATTERY. SO I PURCHASED A BATTERY FROM THE DEALERSHIP. NOT EVEN A WEEK LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. HOWEVER, WHEN I CUT THE IGNITION OFF AND CRANK BACK UP IT RESETS. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED TO BRING IT BACK IN IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I WAS TOO AFRAID TO CONTINUE DRIVING GOING OVER THE NEXT BRIDGE THAT'S 20 PLUS MILES WITHOUT AN EXIT AND LOSE POWER STEERING AGAIN. I'VE HAD TO RENT CARS FOR THIS REPETITIVE OCCURRENCE WITH THIS TRUCK THAT SEEMS TO NOT BE ABLE TO BE REPAIRED. OR EITHER THEY KNOW WHAT'S WRONG BUT WAITING FOR IT TO BE OUT OF WARRANTY FOR ME TO TAKE ON THE COST OF REPAIRING IT. BUT THIS IS NOT SAFE TO KEEP LOOSING POWER STEERING AND I'M DRIVING ANYWHERE BETWEEN 50 TO 70 MPH. I ALSO EXPLAINED THAT WHEN I PARK I CAN'T TURN THE KEY TO TAKE OUT OF THE IGNITION. THE TRUCK CHUGS AND HESITATES RANDOMLY WHEN A DOWN SHIFT IS REQUIRED. GENERALLY THIS RANDOM HESITATION IS JUST ANNOYING. AT TIMES THE VEHICLE WILL NOT DOWNSHIFT FOR A CONSIDERABLE TIME. WHEN MAKING MANEUVERS IN AND AROUND TRAFFIC THE TRUCKS POOR SHIFTING CAUSES THE TRUCK TO JERK AND NOT ACCELERATE. GMC issued a service bulletin #16019 stating that the HVAC temperature control valve (No. 15-51369) was prone to break causing the defrost to become inoperable. This is clearly a safety concern. However, GMC did not issue a recall. In addition, GMC had a limited time window for customers to address the problem. The dealerships were instructed to examine the part and if faulty, replace it. My GMC Canyon did not experience this problem until after the service bulletin expired. GMC stated that this was not a safety recall. Is visibility not a safety hazard?

The contact owns a 2015 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle to the dealer for service, the dealer made her aware of a failure with the vacuum pump. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V278000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 137,000.

UNKNOWN: Power Steering fail while driving. Making it a serious safety and dangerous hazard. Making steering almost impossible to turn the wheel and I have to pull off to the side of the road, park, turn the engine off, wait a few minutes and turn the key (engine) back on. Most times it will reset and I have power again and sometimes it doesn’t. This has happened many times and I have called GMC to see if there’s a recall but they said none. I have taken it to my local mechanic and he stated that it can be an electrical related issue and told me to take it to GMC dealer repair shop in the area.

While driving my 2015 GMC Canyon my power steering service light goes on and I have no power steering making difficult and dangerous to control my vehicle. Also, at the same a service stabilitrak light goes on. I'm aware of a recall for this problem as been issued for 2015 GMC trucks but so reason my truck is not included in this recall even though I am experiencing the same problems for which the recall was issued. I have taken my vehicle to a GMC service center and am satisfied with their findings. I feel this is a dangerous situation as my steering goes out without warning which could lead to a crash. I think my vehicle should be included in this recall and repaired with no cost to myself.

Ignition locking solenoid fails to release when put into park, resulting in the key stuck in the ignition. I'm then unable to leave the vehicle unattended without threat of theft or battery failure. Dealer has not been able to fix the issue. No warnings or failure indications are observed, other than the key being stuck.

THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2015 GMC CANYON HAS FAILED REPEATEDLY WHILE DRIVING IN DIFFERENT ROAD CONDITIONS. IN ONE CASE, I WAS GOING STRAIGHT ON A SURFACE STREET AT LOW SPEED. HOWEVER, IN ANOTHER I WAS CORNERING THROUGH A HIGHWAY OFF-RAMP AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILS, THERE IS A WARNING CHIME AND THE POWER STEERING AND STABILITY CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ACTIVATE SIMULTANEOUSLY. IT BECOMES EXTREMELY CHALLENGING TO STEER, AND IN THE CASE OF CORNERING AT SPEED THE VEHICLE PULLS IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE TURN [IE, IT PULLS TOWARDS DANGER]. PULLING OVER AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE HAS 'SOLVED' THE PROBLEM EACH TIME, ALBEIT TEMPORARILY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A GM DEALER TO GET FIXED, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY RELATED MECHANICAL ISSUES OR GM PROVIDED SW PATCHES THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. SO THE GM DEALER HAD ME LEAVE WITHOUT FIXING ANY OF THE UNDERLYING CONDITIONS THAT CAUSED THE POWER STEERING FAILURE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND APPARENTLY WIDE-SPREAD ISSUE BASED ON THE NUMBER OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ.

THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT DOWN SHIFT WHEN CLIMBING A SMALL HILL IN NORMAL TRAFFIC AT NORMAL SPEEDS. I CONSTANTLY HAVE TO USE THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION TO MAKE THE TRUCK DOWNSHIFT OR I HAVE TO PRESS ON THE GRASS IN ORDER TO BRING THE RPM UP A LITTLE HIGHER USING MORE FUEL THAN REQUIRED. THIS IN ITSELF IS DANGEROUS SINCE I AM IN THEN MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. WHEN I PURCHASED THE TRUCK NONE OF THE RECALL WERE ON CARAFE NOR DID THE DEALER INFORM ME THAT THIS VEHICLE TYPE AND MODEL HAS ALREADY HAD SEVERAL RECALLS AFFECTING ITS PERFORMANCE AND SAFETY. THERE IS ALSO SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE DEFROST SYSTEM WHETHER ITS ON HEAT OR COOL. THERE IS A RATTLING NOISE THAT CAN BE HEARD OVER THE FAN NOISE WHEN THE VEHICLE AIR CONDITIONER IS SWITCH TO THE DEFROST MODE. I AM TRULY DISAPPOINTED AND VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY. GM SHOULD HAVE PULLED THIS VEHICLE OFF THE MARKET!

MY 2015 GMC CANYON SLE PICKUP HAS A BACKUP CAMERA DIMMING PROBLEM. WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE ON A SUNNY DAY, THE LARGE DISPLAY OF WHAT THE CAMERA SEES BEHIND THE VEHICLE IS BRIGHT AND IT IS EASY TO SEE ANY OBJECTS LOCATED IN THE BACKUP PATH UNTIL THE VEHICLE REACHES THE LOCATION WHERE THE SUN LIGHT FALLS ON THE DASH. AT THAT POINT THE DISPLAY DIMS TO THE EXTENT WHERE IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE ANY OBJECTS IN THE DISPLAY. THE DIM DISPLAY LASTS FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS WHEN IT INSTANTLY RETURNS TO FULL BRIGHTNESS AS WAS VISIBLE IN THE GARAGE. IF ONE PUTS ON SUNGLASSES IN THE GARAGE, IN ANTICIPATION OF SUNLIGHT OUTSIDE, THEN THE DISPLAY DIMMING APPEARS SO SEVERE AS TO NOT BE ABLE TO SEE ANY OBJECTS IN THE DISPLAY, UNTIL THE DISPLAY BRIGHTENS AFTER ABOUT 15 SECONDS. THE WORD "OBJECTS" HERE MEANS ANYTHING REASONABLY DISCERNIBLE ON A TYPICAL DRIVEWAY OR ROADWAY SURFACE INCLUDING CHILDREN. THE PROBLEM MAY BE RELATED TO THE LIGHT SENSOR ON THE DASH USED TO AUTOMATICALLY TURN ON LIGHTS IN DARKNESS, BECAUSE WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE AT DUSK THE VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON AND THE BACKUP CAMERA DISPLAY DOES NOT DIM. TWO VIDEOS SHOWING THE ABOVE PROBLEMS AT DAYLIGHT AND DUSK ARE ABOUT 30 TO 35 MB EACH AND TOO LARGE TO UPLOAD HERE. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TODAY.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 GMC CANYON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 TO 65 MPH ON A FOUR LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER, TURNED OFF, AND RESTARTED. THE POWER STEERING PINION, GEAR, AND ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE WERE ALL REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,458.

I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK 3 MONTHS AGO AND IT HAD AROUND 9000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING AT AROUND 25 MPH WHEN I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER MY HOOD. I PULLED OVER, SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, AND POPPED THE HOOD. I OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. OPENING THE HOOD JUST ENRAGED IT MORE. I SLAMMED THE HOOD SHUT, AND GOT TO A SAFE DISTANCE AND CALLED 911. WITHIN MINUTES THE TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. AFTER THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT, THE FIREMEN SAID IT APPEARED TO HAVE STARTED IN THE VICINITY OF THE ALTERNATOR. THE BRACKET WAS MELTED OFF AND ALL THAT WAS LEFT OF THE ALTERNATOR WAS A BASKET OF COPPER. EVERYTHING MINUS THE BED WAS ON FIRE.
