I am experiencing two safety issues with my Canyon 1) Forward collision alert system is triggered unnecessarily (e.g., when there isn't a car in front of me, when the car in front is far away and not posing a risk). I took it to GMC a few months back since there was a previous recall for this system and they said they stated it was fixed. It is not fixed. I turned off the automatic braking tied to the forward collision alert because it has previously braked automatically in a dangerous manner. 2) Digital gauge cluster / speedometer is black / blank upon startup about 5% of the time. Since there is no analog speedometer, this means I am driving without knowing my speed. This is very dangerous. I have tried disconnecting my battery and resetting the electronic system but this issue still persists sometimes.

On 12/2/2024 my vehicle abruptly alerted and auto braked while drive <25mph on residential street while attempting to drive in between two parked cars. Plenty of room but system thought there was going to be a crash. Another vehicle was traveling behind me and also had to stop fast in order not to hit me because of the emergency braking. Truck almost came to a full stop but brakes released and was able to continue driving. This is after I had a mandatory software update that was supposed to improve the over aggressive auto/emergency braking feature. I have since had to disable the braking portion of the system and leave it on audio alert only. Not functioning as designed and unsafe.

The theft alarm has gone off five times since I purchased the vehicle in September, dealership has been noted and has been in there for it and still goes off. Display screen froze up and did not reset until I was done driving and the vehicle was turned off for a while. The crash detection light came on and vehicle stopped itself with nobody in front of me or anybody coming towards me. The dealership has had the car for two weeks now, and they say there’s still no fix for it.

Automatic Breaking System. Driving along at 25-30 mph on a snow covered road when all of a sudden alert system sounded and vehicle brakes abruptly applied putting vehicle into an uncontrollable slide. Fortunately there was no one behind and nom on coming traffic. Notified GM Customer Service, as I have a case open for other issues they claim tyhey do not have a fix for. GM's response to the sudden brake application was "OH I'm Sorry"

Noticed a coolant leak on drivers side and took to dealership was told was the upper radiator hose but was unable to make repairs due to national backorder and only suggestion was to drive until parts come in and keep a check on the coolant level, My truck only has 28,708 miles and shouldn't have to keep an eye on coolant level I feel that is very unsafe

Numerous reports on owner forums (such as the Colorado Chevy / GMC Canyon forum), YouTube, and other platforms document the same issue, indicating this is not an isolated incident but a widespread defect. Because this hose is part of the cooling system, its failure can quickly lead to engine overheating and potentially catastrophic engine damage. The root cause appears to be an engineering flaw in the sealing method: GM uses a rubber seal instead of a durable, high-quality o‑ring to connect the upper hose to the radiator. Despite the seriousness of this defect, my local GMC dealer informed me that—since it is not currently a recall item—they could only schedule service for the following week, requiring me to leave the truck with them for 7–10 days before repairs would be completed. This is unreasonable for consumers who rely on these vehicles daily. Given the safety implications and the potential for engine failure, this issue warrants immediate attention. It should be classified as a recall item. Thousands of examples are already documented online, and GM’s own repair data would likely reveal thousands more instances of this same failure.

After each rain or hand car washing, the OEM sunroof has a gurgling sound when driving at speeds above 25 mph. This does not clear for miles, or over time (at least 1 day without water). Water appears to be passing through the seal into the drainage gutter, but not completely draining out through the drains. Its been in service twice to have the drain lines cleared, and the issue remains. This has been present on other car manufacturers as a "wind pressure issue" where the force of driving causes wind pressure to push what water hasn't drained back up into the sunroof. Fix was extending the drain lines at output. GMC unable to repair.

The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that there was a dent in the roof panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and repaired under Customer Service Program: 23-NA-209. After the repair, the vehicle was taken to the car wash and the same failure occurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed a second time and the contact was informed that the repair could not be performed because the part was not available, and to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The roof of the vehicle crackles and pops when it is in the blowing section of an automatic car wash. We have never had any experience like this before. The roof of the truck is so flimsy that it was actually dented by the hard blowing of air. I don’t feel like this car is solidly constructed and safe.

Power steering failed completely, and braking became ineffective despite hard pedal pressure. Multiple warnings followed: ABS, engine, and others. I was in heavy traffic with vehicles at full speed. Loss of braking and steering control forced me to coast across lanes to the shoulder, narrowly avoiding collision. My safety and that of others was at extreme risk. After stopping, I turned the vehicle off for ~30 seconds. Upon restart, all systems returned to normal—no warnings or issues. This indicates a transient software malfunction, not mechanical failure. Our 2023 Canyon AT4 we bought on [XXX] had the same problem as this current VIN number of the 2023 Canyon ( Covert GMC in Bee Caves tx bought back the first 2023 Canyon due to this same exact transmission problem. The vehicle I’m complaining about that was replaced by Covert GMC in Bee Caves Texas on [XXX] still has a unsafe issue with the transmission. I’m [XXX] and I am [XXX]. Almost every time I pull into a [XXX] parking spot, from right or left approach, this vehicle lunges as I get close to the sign post. it occurs at red lights occasionally. This current replacement vehicle has been in for warranty several time .. only to the Same excuse that they can’t duplicate. Common denials Don not fix the safety issue with this truck. While slowly driving, like when parking or trying to park vehicle in garage, it will randomly surge when almost at complete stop forcing vehicle to lunge forward requiring operator to apply quick additional firm braking. It almost feels like vehicle is creeping in 2nd gear and decides to downshift into 1st gear just before coming to a stop and engine applies slightly more throttle. I have almost hit garage wall and other vehicles in parking lots due to this issue. Again, it is intermittent but is alarming when happens. I have not had vehicle in for repairs yet but concerns dealer will not be able to duplicate. No warning lights on dash for this issue.

Blind spot monitor system continues to give false alerts when no vehicles, objects or other items within blind spot area. Warning light will sometimes stay on for many miles and will go off when I pass another vehicle then go back on when nothing in blind spot again (opposite of design). System will sometime not activate when vehicle is in blind spot. See video. Dealer and GM involved, had PIT6103 performed, replaced all switches April 19, 2024 except for driver door. Issue seemed to improve but has returned and even worse that originally. This has become a safety concern for me as I will apply turn signal, look in mirror, over shoulder but then as I start to switch lanes, the mirror light will start blinking and alerting me there is something in blind spot when there isn't anything there. Causes me to abruptly swerve back into my original lane causing potential dangerous situation. Truck at dealer 12/10/2024 for same issue, dealer and GM tech service states vehicle operating as intended. Was told to either turn system off or live with it. Blind spot warning system continues to illuminate when traveling on two lane roads with no objects in the blind spot(false positives). Especially the passenger side. I continue to be distracted while driving to check the mirror to see what is there, nothing. Then while traveling on multi-lane highways, both sides will sometimes not illuminate when there is a vehicle present in the blind spot. Both of these examples also happen more often after dusk or during dark/cloudy days. I have not taken into dealer yet for repairs but will soon. No system warning of malfunction on dash, just the false positive lights on side mirrors.

Continues to give false alerts even on single lane roads or will not detect vehicles at all. Intermittent issue but happens frequently. Both mirror but mostly passenger side. Becoming safety issue by not knowing if something is there or not. It flashes and alerts me aggressively when it thinks something is there and I turn on my turn signal. Been at dealer three times, TSB performed to replace driver window switch but issue still present. Dealer says they have no fix.

The blind spot monitoring system comes on and off (false positives) while driving at night with no cars behind or next to me. It is a serious distraction requiring the driver to take there eyes of the road. I took the truck to a GMC dealer and they said they could not replicate the issue. I no longer drive the vehicle at night.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

I use the right turn signal to make a right turn at an intersection. I proceed with the turn and begin to accelerate out of the turn, as the steering wheel unturns the right turn signal is supposed to cancel as the steering wheel straightens out. Instead of cancelling the signal, straightening the wheel when accelerating out of a right turn cause the left turn signal to be triggered and in gives three signal indications for a left turn. These left turn indications are uncommanded by the driver. The issue is repeatable. It presents a serious safety concern because other drivers are being told by the truck that you intend to do something which you are not at all intending to do. Another driver could rely on these uncommand left turn indications and pull in front of the truck and cause an accident. This issue has been raised with two dealerships, one dealership replaced the turn signal triggering and cancelling mechanism in the steering column. Both dealers ultimately told me that the issue was "software" relating and that it could not be fixed. One of the dealership claimed to have "corrected the issue with a software update." That assertion was a lie, the issue remained unchanged. This issue is a serious safety issue. The truck has a defect that puts me, my family, and other drivers on the road at risk. So far, GMC has failed to remedy the "software" issue and merely returns to me a defective vehicle.

While driving to work today in fog, the vehicle auto headlights sensed enough light and turned off. Because it was foggy outside I did not feel safe only driving with DRLs on so I attempted to turn on the headlights using the touchscreen controls. The headlights would not turn on. The AC does not work properly. I constantly have to dial the temperature to be comfortable. I sometimes take my eye off the road to do this temperature adjustment. The GM dealer has tried various fixes but the temperature control is still a problem.

The screen in the Truck doubles in picture, freezes and/or shuts down completely. This leaves you with out control of your GPS, radio, blue tooth, head light control and backup camera. Research on the internet has proven this seems to be an accruing problem in this truck, with some even losing their speed information. So far it has resolved itself after a while on its own, thankfully, but each time it happens the black out is lasting longer. In order for the dealership to recognize this problem we must drive to them when its occurring, which hasn't been possible. Owning this truck for 2 months and the issue of losing the computer system has occurred 4 times, this vehicle is not a daily driver.

The pre-collision warning and the lane keep assist are disabled while driving frequently. It does this on its own. I have had into the shop one other time for the same thing. It’s happening more frequently now. Current mileage is 25,153. Also the personal settings on the dashboard reset on its own every five or so key cycles. Obviously there’s some kind of software problem.

Since I purchased the vehicle it’s had the issue of it braking on its own. I brought this up to GMC many times. At the beginning they had me try to duplicate it with them, which I thought would be unsafe. They only acknowledged the problem and attempted repairs after I contacted GMC directly. The issue with the crash alerts while driving always stayed, even though there was nothing in front of me. Just recently it started braking on its own again in traffic. This has caused bodily and property damage, luckily nothing grave. I do not feel safe in the vehicle and gave gmc many attempts at fixing such a serious issue. Subject: Urgent Safety Concern Regarding 2023 GMC Canyon Fuel Pump Module Failure I am writing to express my concerns regarding a significant safety issue I experienced with my 2023 GMC Canyon, which has only 3,000 miles on the odometer. On November 12, 2024, while traveling southbound on Interstate 75 in Florida, my vehicle unexpectedly lost all power. All electronics, including the dashboard and display screens, shut off, and the engine stalled. I was forced to coast to a stop on the shoulder, directly on the bridge section of I-75 over U.S. 301. With less than 12 inches of clearance between my driver’s side and passing traffic, this situation posed a severe risk to my safety. To make matters worse, the tow truck driver was unable to safely and properly secure my vehicle due to the danger presented by the high-speed traffic. My vehicle has now been at the GMC dealership for seven days, and I have been informed that the issue was caused by a faulty fuel pump module. I believe this represents a critical safety defect that warrants immediate attention and possibly a recall. Upon further research, I have found similar reports of fuel pump module failures in online forums, indicating that this may be a widespread issue affecting other owners across the country. In addition, when the tow truck dropped my vehicle off at the GMC dealership, after reading the engine codes the dealership found 18 active engine codes. I feel as if this is a possible known issue and I should have been informed when purchasing the vehicle. I kindly request your assistance in addressing this matter. I urge GMC to investigate the extent of this defect and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all affected vehicles and their drivers. The computer on the center council that displays information, had blacked out. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the brake pads had failed. The dealer had completed a software update for the main computer however the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired due to the brake pads (Part Number 87850375) not being in production for repairs. The failure had become more persistent and now the brakes have failed. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the part for the repair was unavailable even for purchase. The parts were on national backorder. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by the dealer and the manufacturer confirmed that the part was unavailable. The failure mileage was unknown.

Constant smell of coolant while stopped at traffic lights or idling even worse when the air vents are on, dealership insists it's because the reservoir cap is vented but coolant reservoir is literally a foot away from drivers window even still shouldn't be smelling coolant it's been like this since a month after purchase. Having issues now with auto braking system activating for no reason did this multiple times almost got rear ended on NY State thruway because it activated with no cars near me once it activates it causes the truck to go into a limp mode (won't go over 30 mph) and starts vibrating like it needs a tune up. The radio and digital display often dissappear for no reason can tell speed. I almost got a ticket from state trooper for unsafe stopping i explained everything and was told i could get a safety violation for defective equipment and to take it garage and drive it till its fuxed , the windows have rolled down a couple of times while it's parked and won't go back up. Headlights often flicker when driving auto low beam/high beam rarely works. Every time it goes to dealership they say they can't duplicate the problem. It's really scary when you're doing 70mph and the auto brake engages. I'm literally afraid to drive it. I have a 14 year old truck with 230,000 miles I don't smell coolant or have these kinds of issues Seems to be a lot of electrical problems going on service advisor said he saw notices for bcm, front facing camera total of 6 issues. Nothing seems to resolve issues but dealerships aren't doing anything just saying can't duplicate problem also paint is chipping every where The issues started around 5300 miles and continuing

Blind zone detection system and door latch system failures. The blind zone detection system is inconsistent and at times remains on with bright lights impairing the drivers ability to see at night. With this inconsistency the driver cannot rely on it properly detecting vehicles within the blind spot. Another known issue is the inability to put down windows with the drivers side door. The alert for this is to service the door latch system which typically comes on while driving the vehicle. This limits the driver being able to safely respond to traffic stops from emergency personnel as well as the ability to evacuate the vehicle through the window if necessary. The dealers that have reviewed these issues say they cannot replicate or fix them.

The contact stated that upon activating the defroster during cold winter weather, he became aware that the defroster failed to properly defrost the front windshield and that the windshield wipers failed to adequately remove ice debris, potentially compromising windshield visibility. I’ve heard of many that have been waiting months. They should not be pushing out defective software when it takes out the safety equipment.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced several electrical failures and would fail to start due to a faulty battery. The contact stated that after the manufacturer remotely completed an unknown electrical update on the vehicle, the vehicle started experiencing several failures including a rearview camera, door locks, brakes, and power steering failures. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the message "Power Brake Assist" and "Power Steering" were displayed. Additionally, the brake pedal went down to the floorboard, and the vehicle failed to respond immediately. The contact also stated that the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The vehicle was later taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to the electrical system; however, the dealer could not repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 2,500.
