TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SAFARI. WHILE DRIVING 7 MPH AND WHEN T DEPRESSING THE BRAKES THE ABS ACTIVATED, AND THERE WAS A BUZZING NOISE. HE WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET. THE ABS SENSOR WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, SIX MONTHS LATER THE PROBLEM RECCURED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000 MILES, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,000. *AK

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE'S ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM SENSORS WERE FAULTY AND ACTIVATED ON DRY PAVEMENT AT A SPEED OF LOWER THAN 8 MPH. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNAL TO INDICATE A FAILURE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED UNDER NORMAL BRAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION. I HAVE A 2001 GMC SAFARI VAN.APPROX 49000 MILES.I FIRST EXPIERENCED MY ANTILOC BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATING WHEN NOT NEEDED AT SLOW SPEEDS.THINKING THIS WAS A LITTLE ODD AND I THOUGHT I WOULD NEED TO GET IT TO ACT UP MORE IN ORDER TO PROPERLY EXPLAIN WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY SERVICE PERSONEL.AND I THOUGHT IT WAS MINOR AS EVEN THO THE ANTILOC SYSTEM ACTIVATED THE BRAKES SEEMED TO WORK FINE.UNTILL ONE DAY WHEN ALL I HEARD WAS THE NOISE ACCUSTOMED WITH THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR.AFTER PUSHING AS HARD AS I HAVE EVER PUSHED ON A BRAKE PEDAL THE VAN STOPPED. BEING AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANYMORE I GOT IT INTO MY SERVICE DEPT.WHO REPLACED BOTH FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS.

WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PULL INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE CONSUMER HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT TWO BRAKE LINES LEADING TO THE RIGHT FRONT CALIPER HAVE RUB THROUGH ONE ANOTHER. *JB *AK

THE REPAIR FACILITY DESCRIBED THE WINDOW PROBLEM AS "BINDING", AND A ALSO FOUND THAT THE DOOR LOCK WAS NOT ACTIVATING PROPERLY DUE TO A DOOR LOCK MECHANISM PROBLEM (THE ACTUATOR) AS HAVING AN "INTERNAL SHORT". THE REPAIR OF 1/04 WAS GOOD FOR ABOUT 14 MONTHS (DEALER REFUSED TO WARRANT WORK), WHEN IN 3/05, THE PROBLEM HAD GRADUALLY RETURNED. WHEN I ASKED THE DEALER IF THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, HE SAID IT WAS NOT. I RECENTLY DECIDED TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM AS I AM ABOUT TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AGAIN, AND SEE THAT THE PASSENGER WINDOWS ON GMC VANS HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM FOR A LONG TIME. I BELIEVE THE MALFUNCTIONING WINDOW IS A HAZARD, AS IT CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR THE DRIVER WHEN DISTRACTED BY A MALFUNCTIONING WINDOW, WHICH IS USED TO PROTECT THE VEHICLES OCCUPANTS FROM WEATHER, SMOKE, DUST AND DIRT, WIND AND EVEN POTENTIAL CRIMINALS. DT: 2001 GM SAFARI. THE CONSUMER STATES THE BRAKES WILL NOT WORK FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND VEHICLE COULD SLIDE INTO THE INTERSECTION. WIFE WAS SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR. THE CONSUMER WENT TO DIFFERENT DEALERS, THEY TOLD HIM THAT IT MAY BE THAT THE WHEELS NEEDED TO BE REPACKED. . THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT BELT TIGHTENS UP CONTINUOUSLY WHEN WORN. AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE BELT IS USELESS AND UNUSABLE. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO GET IT REPAIRED 3 TIMES AT TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS TO NO AVAIL. I KNOW OF TWO OTHE VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT HIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER TELLS ME THERE IS NO FIX AVAILABLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFICEIENCY AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED ON THIS VERY HIGH VOLUME VEHICLE (SUBURBAN, DENALI, TAHOE ETC..)

MY PICKUP HAD A RECALL (#01021) TO CHANGE THE RECOMMENDED AIR PRESSURE . THE PRESSURE WENT FROM 55PSI IN THE FRONT AND 80 PSI IN THE REAR TO 35 PSI ON ALL TIRES. I CONTACTED FIRESTONE AND THEY TOLD ME THIS PRESSURE WAS UNSAFE AND THOSE TIRES SHOULD HAVE NO LESS THAN 58PSI. THE NEW STICKER MAKES NO MENTION OF INCREASING THE AIR PRESSURE IF A LOAD IS BEING CARRIED. THE RGVW FOR THAT TRUCK IS 6084 LBS, AND THE TIRES ARE EACH RATED TO CARRY 3042 LBS AT 80 PSI. A LOWER AIR PRESSURE DRASTICALLY REDUCES THE LOAD BEARING CAPABILITY OF THE TIRE, WHICH IS NOT ACCOUNTED FOR BY GMC. MY DEALER AGREES THAT THE PRESSURE IS TO LOW AND HAS RECOMMENDED I REMOVE THE TAG AND USE THE PREVIOUS RECOMMENDED PRESSURE. I AND THE DEALER HAVE CONTACTED GMC AND CAN GET NO ANSWER ON WHY THEY CHANGED THE PRESSURE AND WHETHER IT IS SAFE. I AM CONCERNED THAT OTHER OWNERS WILL NOT REALIZE THERE IS A POSSIBLE SAFETY CONCERN WITH OPERATING THESE TIRES AT SUCH A LOW PSI. *AK (TIRESIZE: LT245/75)
