HE REPAIRED THE ISSUE HIMSELF AFTER PURCHASING ANOTHER SET OF BOLTS FROM THE DEALER TWO YEARS AGO. RECENTLY, THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT LOWER SPEEDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CONDITION WERE WORSE WHEN THE ROADS WERE WET. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE 4- WHEEL DRIVE MODE THE ABS SYSTEM W AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF, AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. THEN, CONSUMER CHECKED THE SPARE MOUNTING DEVICE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE CABLE BROKE DUE TO RUST. CABLE LOOKED AS IF IT RUSTED T AND FAILED. ALSO, CONSUMER OWNED A 1989 GMC PICKUP WHICH HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. CONSUMER NOTICED SPARE TIRE MISSING ON 1994. THEN CHECKED AND FOUND THAT 1989 VEHICLE ALSO HAD SPARE TIRE, AND CABLE RUSTED AND BROKE. CONSUMER'S SON HAD A 1993 GMC WITH THE SAME TIRE MOUNTING DEVICE FOUND THAT SPARE TIRE WAS AND CABLE RUSTED AND BROKE OFF. I PURCHASED 4 BRAND NEW PIRELLI DESERT DOG TIRES FROM SAM'S ABOUT 9/17/98. ONE OF THE TIRES WAS ACTING ODD WITH A BUMPING SOUND CAUSED BY AN EGG IN THE TIRE OR THE TREAD BEING PARTIALLY SEPARATED. THE DEFECTIVE PIRELLI DESERT DOG TIRE WAS EXCHANGED AT SAM'S ABOUT 9/18 OR 19/98 BY SAM'S WITHOUT QUESTIONS AND IT WAS BELIEVED TO BE DEFECTIVE. THE PIRELLI DESERT DOG TIRE ON MY PASSENGER REAR SIDE OF MY GMC PICKUP THAT HAD THE TREAD SEPARATE FROM THE TIRE ON HWY 90 AT 70 MPH MADE NOISE JUST LIKE THE OTHER DEFECTIVE TIRE JUST BEFORE IT SEPARATED. THE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM ABOUT HALF OF THE TIRE AND THE TIRE REMAINED INFLATED. WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATED IT BEAT UP AND DAMAGED MY PASSENGER REAR FENDER, UNDER SIDE OF MY BED, MY BUMPER AND MY EXHAUST TAIL PIPE. WHEN THE TIRE SEPARATED IT CAUSED MY TRUCK TO SWERVE RIGHT AND LEFT VIOLENTLY AND ALMOST CAUSED MY PICKUP TO FLIP OVER. MY WIFE AND I WERE SERIOUSLY SHAKEN, STOPPED THE VEHICLE, CHECKED WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THANKED GOD WE WERE NOT INJURED OR KILLED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH THE SPARE AND WE CONTINUED TO NEW ORLEANS, LA. THE TRUCK HAD NOTHING IN THE BED BUT WE WERE TOWING A TRAILER WITH NOTHING IN OR ON IT. I BELIEVE THAT THE TRAILER HELPED IN PREVENTING THE OVERTURNING OF MY PICKUP BY KEEPING THE REAR END OF MY PICKUP FROM SWERVING MORE VIOLENTLY THAN IT DID. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO SAM'S AND THEY INDICATED IT WAS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT, I CONTACTED PIRELLI, SENT THE TIRE WITH ESTIMATED DAMAGES BUT PIRELLI REPORTED THAT THE TIRE WAS NOT DEFECTIVE. AFTER VIEWING THE FILM ON THE TIRES BEING INVESTIGATED BY CONGRESS, I FELT IT NECESSARY TO REPORT THE SITUATION THAT I HAVE HAD WITH THESE PIRELLI DESERT DOG TIRES. MY VEHICLE REACTED EXACTLY LIKE THOSE ON THE VIDEO SEEN ON TV WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATED. NEITHER SAM'S OR PIRELLI ARE WILLING TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE OR REPLACE MY TIRE SO I HAVE HAD TO GO TO MY OWN INSURANCE CARRIER TO GET MY VEHICLE REPAIRED. PLEASE HELP IN REPORTING THIS SAFETY HAZARD.

The contact owns a 1994 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the windshield wiper motor intermittently failed to operate without warning. The contact then discovered that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 98V150001 (Visibility). The dealer was notified of the recall and the contact was informed that they did not see a recall on his vehicle. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The contact had attempted to reach the manufacturer but had no success. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 204,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

COMPLETE HISTORY OF BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FAILURES ON THIS VEHICLE: AT 68702 MILES. A POLICE OFFICER ADVISED ME THAT THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. THE ORIGINAL BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH (P/N 15686968 4047) WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW SWITCH (P/N 12450076 7507 - DEALER SAID THAT THIS PART NUMBER REPLACE THE ORIGINAL PART). I DISASSEMBLE THE FAILED PART AND FOUND HEAVY ARC-DEPOSITS ON THE CONTACTS. LATER I WAS NOTIFIED BY GMC OF A RECALL CAMPAIGN ON THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. THE NOTIFICATION STATED THAT UNDER THIS RECALL THE DEALER WOULD REPLACE THE EXISTING SWITCH AND CHANGE THE POLARITY. AT 109536 MILES THE SWITCH WAS AGAIN REPLACED VIA THE RECALL (P/N 1250076 7164) AND I WAS REIMBURSED FOR THE EARLIER PURCHASE OF A REPLACEMENT SWITCH. AT 131925 MILES ANOTHER DRIVER INFORMED ME THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. I CONTACTED GMC (A LOCAL DEALER AND CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE) TO INFORM THEM THAT THE "CORRECTIVE ACTION" MADE DURING THEIR RECALL HAD NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. THEY RESPONDED THAT THEY WERE ONLY REQUIRED TO FIX IT ONCE AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE SWITCH AGAIN AT NO COST TO ME. I PURCHASED A NEW SWITCH (P/N 1250076 9074 XY), AND REPLACED THE FAILED SWITCH AT 132069 MILES. SINCE I ANTICIPATE THAT THE NEW SWITCH WILL EVENTUALLY CEASE TO FUNCTION TOO, I HAVE INSTALLED AN INTERIOR INDICATOR SO THAT I WILL KNOW WHEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN (WITHOUT THE RISK OF A COLLISION). DISASSEMBLE OF THE RECENTLY FAILED SWITCH REVEALED THAT THE CONTACTS WERE CONTAMINATED WITH ARC-DEPOSITS AS IN THE CASE OF THE ORIGINAL SWITCH. I DESIRE THAT GMC FINALLY FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND THAT THEY REIMBURSE ME FOR THE SWITCH THAT I JUST PURCHASED.*AK

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT WOULD NOT LATCH TO THE BUCKLE. ALSO, THE STRAP THAT GOES ACROSS THE DRIVER'S CHEST WOULD NOT ADJUST TO HIS HEIGHT. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH COLE BUICK GMC (6600 S WESTNEDGE AVE, PORTAGE, MI 49002, 269-323-3200) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEAT BELTS WERE NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.

BRAKE FLUID LINES RUSTED AWAY ON BOTH SIDES, DIRECTLY BEHIND THE FRONT WHEELS. DURING REPAIR, AT A LICENSED REPAIR SHOP, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE CHASSIS OF THE VEHICLE HAD, IN FACT, RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH WHERE THE BRAKE LINE CLAMPS WERE ATTACHED TO THE CHASSIS. THE RUSTING OF THE VEHICLE FRAME IS SO BAD THAT THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE SAFELY DRIVEN. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY ASSIGNED ME A SERVICE REQUEST NUMBER, #71-902016197 AND TOLD ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL GM DEALER AND HAVE THEM LOOK AT THE REPORTED DAMAGE. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME HE HAD SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE BUT, NOT AS BAD AS THE RUST ON MY TRUCK. HE SAID HE BELIEVES IT IS CAUSED BY GM HAVING USED DISSIMILAR METAL SCREWS AND BRACKETS MOUNTED INTO THE TRUCK CHASSIS/FRAME. HE SAID HE WAS SURE THAT GM WOULD DO NOTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT THAT A FRAME REPAIR SHOP MAY BE ABLE TO REPLACE THE BAD SECTION. THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT IS DANGEROUS AND MAY CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH SHOULD THE CHASSIS/FRAME FAIL WHILE THE TRUCK IS DRIVEN. IT SHOULD BE NOTED, THE TRUCK HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND LACKS ANY OTHER RUST OR MAJOR DAMAGE.

WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK DUE TO THE FRONTEND SHIMMYING WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES IT WAS FOUND THAT THE ROTORS WHERE OUT OF ROUND. I HAVE HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR OF PADS I WAS TOLD (NOT BY THE DEALER) THAT THE CALIPERS WHERE STICKING . THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOP WORKING OCCASIONALLY.

I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IN 1997 AND WITHIN 30 DAYS THE FUEL PUMP WENT OUT.I TOOK MY TRUCK TO CHEVY LAND TO HAVE THE PUMP REPLACED. THIS TOOK OVER 3 WEEKS AND WE HAD TO GO THREW ABOUT 4 OR 5 PUMPS . I THEN WENT OUT AND BOUGHT A BRAND NEW PUMP, NOT A REBUILT ONE AND THEN IT RAN O.K FOR A SHORT TIME AND BACK TO DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. WE TOOK IT BACK IN AGAIN AND THE PUMP WAS BAD AGAIN. I HAD TOLD THEM TO REBUILD MY PUMP THAT WAS ON MY TRUCK BECAUSE IT WAS VERY NEW AND I WAS TOLD BY CHEVY LAND THAT THEY WOULD REBUILD MY FUEL PUMP, BUT THEY DIDNT, THEY SAID THEY SENT MY PUMP OFF TO BE FIXED AND REPLACED IT WITH A OLDER REBUILT ONE THEY HAD THERE. I PICK UP MY TRUCK AND WITHIN 24 HOURS THE TRUCK WAS DOING THE VERY SAME THING AS BEFORE WE REPLACED THIS PUMP. WE CALLED UP TO CHEVY LAND AND THEY HAD THE TRUCK TOWED IN TO THE SHOP. THIS IS WHERE THE TRUCK SAT FOR MANY DAYS AND WEEKS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO FIX IT . BUT THEY COULDNT. THE SERVICE MANGER EVEN SAID HE COULDNT FIX IT . THEY HAD NO IDEA TO WHAT WAS WRONG NOW WITH MY TRUCK, AND THAT THEY JUST COULDNT FIX IT. SO IT SAT FOR MANY WEEKS . WHEN I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE DEPT TO SEE WHEN IT WAS GOING TO BE DONE WITH MY TRUCK .THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE DONE WITH IT AS HE SAID THEY JUST COULDNT FIX IT. SO WHAT WAS I TO DO WITH A TRUCK THAT WONT RUN. I THEN WENT BACK UP TO THE SHOP TO TELL THEM WE WOULD BE BACK TO GET THE TRUCK WHEN I SAW THAT MY TRUCK HAD BEEN PARKED OUTSIDE ALL THIS TIME IN THE RAN WITH BOTH FRONT WINDOWS LEFT DOWN AND BOTH MY BATTERYS WERE COMPLETELY DEAD . I THEN HAD TO GO BUY TWO MORE BATTERYS FOR THE TRUCK I HAVE SPENT OVER 11000.00 DOLLARS IN REPAIRS FOR THIS TRUCK IN THE LAST YEAR AND THIS IS WHERE I SPENT ALL OF THE MONEY AT IS CHEVY LAND. BUT WHEN I TAKE A NON RUNNING TRUCK INTO THE REPAIR SHOP AND MONTHS GO BY AND MY TRUCK IS LEFT TO ROT IN THE RAIN AND ALL THE TIME TELLING ME THAT YOU CANT FIX IT SO ON THAT NOTE I TOOK MY TRUCK AND HAD IT TOWED BACK HOME AND STOPPED PAYMENT.HELP ME PLEASE.

WINDSHIELD WIPERS DON'T WORK PROPERLY, CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING IN THE RAIN. ALSO, WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORK SOMETIMES AND SOMETIMES DON'T WORK.
