I HAVE NOTICED PROBLEMS WITH MY ABS IN THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK IN THE PAST YEAR. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ABS ACTIVATED AT VARIOUS LOW SPEEDS AND THERE WERE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. ALTHOUGH THESE PROBLEMS PERSISTED, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SEEN BY A DEALER.

THE BRAKE LINE ABOVE THE GAS TANK RUSTED AND FAILED WHILE IT WAS BEING DRIVEN. THERE WAS NO FOREWARNING OF THIS AND AS IT WAS ABOVE THE GAS TANK, WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN NOTICED. THE GAS TANK HAD TO BE DROPPED AND THE BRAKE LINE REPLACED. THANK GOODNESS THE VEHICLE STOPPED BEFORE REARENDING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND THANK GOODNESS MY ONE YEAR OLD WASN'T IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME. OLD PART HAS BEEN RETAINED. REPAIR COST WAS $458.21.

WHILE TOWING TRAILER WITH 2 QUADS (4 WHEELERS) ON EXPRESSWAY WITH A GROUP OF CO-WORKERS, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN MY TRUCK WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO PASSING GEAR. IT MADE A LOUD "REVING" NOISE AND BEGAN RAPIDLY DECREASING IN SPEED. I PULLED OFF THE EXPRESSWAY BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. I THEN GRADUALLY ACCELERATED AND SHIFTED MANUALLY, BUT WAS ONLY ABLE TO ACHEIVE 1ST GEAR. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED 150 MILES TO MY HOUSE WHERE IT STILL SITS THREE MONTHS LATER WITH ONLY REVERSE AND 1ST GEAR OPERABLE AT THIS TIME.

I CONTACTED NHTSA SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND I WAS INFORMED THAT GM HAD A LARGE PROBLEM WITH THE SEAT RAILS IN THEIR VARIOUS VEHICLES. I UNDERSTAND THAT NHTSA HAS MANY-MANY VEHICLES TO INSPECT. I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING MY GM DEALER FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS WITH VARIOUS PROBLEMS-BROKEN INTERIOR DOR HANDLE-FAILURE(S) WITH THE FUEL INJECTORS-FUEL PUMP FAILURES-BURNED WIRING HARNASS(WHERE I HAD TO SHOW THEM WHERE THE WIRING HARNESS WAS LOCATED-TRAINED TECHS??-ALTERNATOR FAILURE-AC COMPRESSOR FAILURE-ATC... THE BIGGEST PROBLEM OF COURSE IS THE SEAT RAILS. THEY COULD HAVE BEEN REDISNED AND THE METAL SHOULD HAVE BEEN HEAT TREATED, THE SEAT RAILS HAVE A POOR QUALITY METAL-HEAT TREATMENT WOULD HAVE SPLVED THEIR PROBLEM{S}. I HAVE TAUGHT AUTO REPAIR FOR 30+ YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER DEALT WITH SUCH A BUNCH OF NON-CARING ASS HOLES. MADE IN AMERICA-PURHAPS I SHOULD PURCHASE SOMETHING FROM JAPAN-AT LEAST THEY TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS CORRECTLY-DRIVING A VEHICLE WITH LOOSE SEATS MAKES ME FEEL LIKE IM DRIVING A FOUND ON THE ROAD DEAD CAR-FORD (PINTO). . THE HOOD IMEDIATLY OPENED ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE WIND SHIELD. I IMMEDIATEL STARTED WATCHING THE ROAD BESIDE THE TRUCK, PUT ON MY TURN SIGNAL . THE MAN BEHIND ME SAW WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND FLASHED HIS LIGHTS AT ME AND SLOWED DOWN THE TRAFIC BEHINDE ME SO I COULD SAFELY PULL OFF THE ROAD. LUCKILY WE WERE NOT HURT AND THE WINDSHIELD DID NOT GET BROKEN. I HAD A STRAP WITH ME THAT I USED TO HOLD DOWN THE HOOD SO WE WERE ABLE TO PROSEED TO OUR DESTINATION. I CALLED THE LOCAL GMC DEALER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON HOOD LATCH, AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOT. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET AN ESTIMATE. I THEN WENT TO THE CHEVY DEALER TO CHECK ON A NEW TRUCK, AND FOUND THAT IN 2000 THEY CHANGED THE HOOD LATCH TO A STILE THAT COULD NOT COME ALL THE WAY OPEN THE WAY MINE DID. THE RELEASE LEVER IS STILL IN THE SAME PLACE AND CAN BE COUGHT BY YOUR FOOT AND CAUSE THE HOOD TO UNLATCH, BUT WITH THE NEW SAFETY THAT IS PART OF THE HOOD LATCH IT CAN NOT OPEN ALL THE WAY. I CAN NOT BELEAVE THAT THERE HAS BEEN NOONE ELSE THAT HAS HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE CHANGED THE LATCH IN 2000 UNLESS THEY HAD PROBLEMS. I'M GOING TO LIST EVERY SAFETY DEFECT WITH MY 1996 GMC SIERRA SINCE I PURCHASED IT USED IN 2008. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT I HEARD A SWISHING SOUND IN THE HEATER CORE AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST LOW ON ANTI FREEZE AND THAT MY REPAIR FACILITY COULD FIX THE AIR BAG; BUT AS IT TURNS OUT THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS BAD AND I COULDN'T AFFORD TO GET THE AIR BAG FIXED. THE SWISHING SOUND WAS CAUSED BY AIR IN THE COOLING SYSTEM DUE TO A LEAKING INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET; IT HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR 600.00 $. A BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT (YES I KNOW IT'S AN OLD TRUCK), THE FUEL LINES ARE RUSTING AND WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED SOON, AND THE OIL COOLER LINES ARE LEAKING BECAUSE GM VEHICLES HAVE FLUID LINES THAT ARE PRONE TO FAILURE. THE WIND SHIELD WIPERS DON'T ALWAYS TURN ON WHEN IT'S RAINING BECAUSE OF CRACKED SOLDER JOINTS IN THE CONTROL MODULE AND I REPLACED A HEATER/FAN MOTOR. I PULLED MY ABS FUSE AND DISABLED THE SYSTEM BECAUSE MY ABS WAS ACTIVATING ON DRY PAVEMENT AT LOW SPEEDS AND CAUSING AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE; A REAL DANGER IN PARKING LOTS WHERE A CHILD COULD RUN OUT IN FRONT OF MY TRUCK. I DON'T HAVE A GRAND TO REPLACE RUSTED HUBS AND SENSORS TO MAKE MY ABS WORK AGAIN. THE TAILGATE LATCH WILL NOT UNLOCK THE TAILGATE. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL NOT WORK, OR WILL ONLY WORK ON HIGH SPEED. WILL SOMETIMES WORK IF TURNED TO HIGH FIRST THEN TO LOW SPEED. WHILE STARTING TO MOVE FROM A STOP SIGN THE DRIVERS SEAT BROKE FROM THE ADJUSTMENT RAILS, ALLOWING THE SEAT TO FALL TO THE REAR, RESULTING IN NOT BEING ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE.

BATTERY ACID LEAKED ON THE BRAKE LINE. THE ACID ATE THROUGH THE BRAKE LINE, CAUSING BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE. DRIVER EXPERIENCED COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *AK
