GOT IN TRUCK STARTED IT, DROVE TO THE TOP OF MILE DRIVEWAY APPLIED BRAKES. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I ROLLED INTO THE ROAD BEFORE I COULD APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE. AN ONCOMING CAR HAD TO BRAKE, SO AS TO AVOID HITTING ME. I GOT THE TRUCK BACK IN TO THE DRIVEWAY AND RODE THE PARK BRAKE DOWN THE DRIVE. CALLED A WRECKER TO TOW TO NEAREST GARAGE. THE BRAKE LINES RUPTURED IN THE DIFFERENT PLACES, LOST ALL BRAKE FLUID.

BRAKES HYDRAULICS FAILED WHEN TRYING TO STOP. TRUCK IS IN THE SHOP NOW. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE LOST HYDRAULIC PRESSURE WITHOUT WARNING. HE WAS TRAVELING 10 MPH TOWARDS A BUSY INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY, HE WAS ABLE TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT AND USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP. THE REAR BRAKE LINES ON THE VEHICLE RUSTED AND LEAKED BRAKE FLUID, WHICH RESULTED IN THE LOSS OF PRESSURE. *TR

A SECOND BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AS A RESULT OF RUST CORROSION CAUSING THE BRAKES TO FAIL AT 76,158 ORIGINAL MILES. I NARROWLY AVOIDED A REAR END COLLISION INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE CARRYING A FAMILY WITH CHILDREN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A GM DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED. THE COST ESTIMATE FROM THE GM DEALER TO REPLACE ALL OF THE RUSTED BRAKE PARTS IS $5,125.00 THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT OF BRAKE FAILURE AS A RESULT OF RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED AT 73,870 ORIGINAL MILES. A CALL WAS MADE TO GMC IN AN EFFORT TO SEEK ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR AMOUNT AND THEY ADAMANTLY REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE. *TR

UPON STARTING THE TRUCK, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND BRAKE FLUID DRAINED UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. A BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING A LACK OF BRAKING POWER. THERE WERE NO ALARMS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE TRUCK IS NOT DRIVABLE IN THIS CONDITION. NONE OF THE BRAKES GRAB AND IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, SOMEONE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. UPON EXAMINATION, ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. SINCE GM DOES NOT MANUFACTURE REPLACEMENT BRAKE LINES, EACH LINE WILL NEED TO BE BENT AND FITTED BY HAND. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A BRAKE FLUID LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN AUTOMOTIVE SHOP, WHERE THEY CUT OFF THE ROTTEN PORTION OF THE BRAKE LINE AND REPAIRED IT. THE BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. THE DEALER DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE, BUT A PRIVATE MECHANIC REPAIRED THE BRAKE LINES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 145,000.

ABS MESSAGE LIGHT CAME ON CONSISTENTLY AND DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE EXPLAINED BY MY MECHANIC SHOP, I HAD THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CHANGED AND NOW ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER THE ABS MESSAGE LIGHT IS NOW APPEARING IN THE MESSAGE BOARD AGAIN INTERMINTENTLY. I READ WHERE GMC STARTED A RECALL ON SEPTEMBER 22,2005 FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM WHICH CALLED( GM RECALL # 05068) BUT ONLY FOR "SALT BELT STATES" "SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK".INTERESTINGLY MY STATE WAS LEFT OFF OF THE LIST. I CALLED GMC AND THEY INDICATE THERE WAS NO SUCH RECALL AND SUGGESTED I CALL NHTSA. I HAVE NOW NOTICED THAT MY BRAKES LOCK UP AND DO NOT HAVE THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM OPERATING.

LOST ALL BRAKES ON MY 01' GMC SIERRA 1500 SLE 4X4 WHILE BRAKING ON AN OFF RAMP, PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. BRAKE LINES APPEAR TO BE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT, WHICH DOESN'T MAKE SENSE WHEN I HAVE A 5 YEAR OLDER HONDA CIVIC, WITH 110K MORE MILES ON IT, AND THE BRAKE LIKES DO NOT LOOK NEAR AS BAD. BOTH SPENT THEIR LIVES IN MINNESOTA / WISCONSIN. AFTER DOING SOME GOOGLING, IT APPEARS THIS IS EXTREMELY COMMON WITH 2000-2003 GM TRUCKS. IF THIS WASN'T A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, WOULDN'T ALL UNCOATED BRAKE LINES RUST OUT AT SIMILAR RATES, IN THE SAME CONDITIONS? WAS ON MY WAY HOME, WHEN I WENT TO TURN LEFT ONTO MY ROAD. MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO ACCELERATE ACROSS A MAIN ROAD BECAUSE A VEHICLE CAME UP OVER THE HILL AT ME AND I COULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK. I COASTED DOWN A HILL UNTIL THE TRUCK STOPPED ROLLING. WHEN IT WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE STATION THE MECHANIC NOTED A RUSTED OUT HOLE IN MY BRAKE LINE. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE LAST TIME WAS IN 2013. YET THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOTHING TO ADDRESS THIS!!!!!!!

WHILE DRIVING IN DOWNTOWN CITY AREA, VEHICLE IN MOTION, ATTEMPTED TO APPLY BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO FLOOR ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THERE WAS NO WARNING TO LOSS OF BRAKING SYSTEM. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO RESIDENCE AND REVIEWED. BRAKE LINES FROM MASTER CYLINDER HAVE SUFFERED RUST DAMAGE AND CAUSED A FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. UPON FURTHER REVIEW ALL BRAKE LINES ON VEHICLE ARE EXHIBITING EXTREME CORROSION TO A SYSTEM THAT SHOULD NOT BE RUSTING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY CONFIRMED THE VIN FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V521000(ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 29,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED THAT THE FUEL LINES NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). HAVING HEARD ABOUT MICHELIN RECALLS I CHECKED THE TIRES ON MY 2001 GMC SIERRA PICKUP. I HAVE MICHELIN LT245/75R16 120/116R XC LT4 TIRES WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES WEAR. TWO OF THEM ARE "CRUMBLING" OUT 1 1/2 INCH ABOVE THE RIM. YOU CAN SEE FIBERS IN THE HOLES. THERE ARE CRACKS EVERYWHERE ON ALL THE TIRES. THEY HAVE BEEN COVERED FROM THE SUN. GRANTED THE TIRES HAVE AGE BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN "CRUMBLING" BEFORE.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT WENT TO A MECHANIC INQUIRING ABOUT THE BACKING PLATE LOCATED NEAR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED HIM THAT THE BACKING PLATES OFTEN DISINTEGRATED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT IT WAS MADE OUT OF AN INFERIOR METAL AND SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AT SUCH A RATE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT WORKING IN HIS VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS RUSTED, WHICH THE CONTACT ATTRIBUTED TO THE DEFECTIVE BACKING PLATE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE BACKING PLATES AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 43,000.

SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW, THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL HAS BEEN SOFT (GOES TO THE FLOOR WHEN PRESSED), AND PARKING BRAKES HAVE FAILED TO HOLD VEHICLE ON INCLINES OF GREATER THAN 25 - 30 DEGREES. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP AND HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TRYING TO FIX WITH ADJUSTMENT AND NEW PARTS; ALL RESULTED IN LITTLE OR NO SUCCESS. ONE OCCASION THE TRUCK ACTUALLY ROLLED DOWN A HILL WITH THE PARKING BRAKE SET. FORTUNATELY, NO DAMAGE OR INJURIES. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE HAVING AN INSPECTION PERFORMED, IT WAS DETERMINED THE PARKING BRAKE WAS INOPERABLE. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V161000, REGARDING THE PARKING BRAKE. THE RECALL WAS FOR VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND VIN.

THE FRAME IS SEVERELY ROTTED BEHIND THE CAB ON BOTH SIDES. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A FRAME THAT IS THIS AGE ROTTED SO BAD. THIS REMINDS ME OF THE PROBLEM TOYOTA HAD WITH THEIR TACOMAS. BUT ATLEAST TOYOTA PUT OUT A RECALL TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM.

THE FUEL GAUGE BEGAN JUMPING FROM FULL TO EMPTY REGARLESS OF THE ACTUAL AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE TANK. I TOOK GM'S RECOMMENDATION TO PUT THEIR FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER INTO THE GAS TANK TO CLEAN THE CONTACTS ON THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS LATER, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER PLUGGED TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RUN AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW TOLD THAT ONLY WAY TO FIX THE FUEL GAUGE IS TO PULL THE GAS TANK AND REPLACE THE SENDING UNIT. SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS FAULTY SENDING UNIT AND THE "QUICK FIX" THAT MANY PEOPLE PROBABLY TRY. APPROXIMATELY $400 TO FIX SENDING UNIT BECAUSE IT'S BUILT INTO THE GAS TANK, AND APPROXIMATELY $1000 TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.

THEN A SERVICE PERSON TOLD CONSUMER THAT VEHICLE NEEDED A DISTRIBUTOR OR THEY COULD TIE A ZIP TIE ON THE DISTRIBUTOR, AND THAT WAS WHAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID. THEY TIED A PLASTIC ZIP TIE ONTO THE DISTRIBUTOR. CONSUMER WAS WONDERING WHY THAT HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS RUNNING WELL. BEFORE THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE THIRTY MINUTES EARLIER. I DONT REALLY KNOW WHAT LEAD UP TO THE FAILURE BUT THE PASS LOCK ANTI THEFT SYSTEM ON THE GM PRODUCTS REALLY NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT OR NOT START AT ALL. 90 % OFF THE VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE PASS LOCK SYSTEM ON THEM HAVE PROBLEMS. GM MECHANICS SAY IT IS THE IGNITION SWITCH OR THIS OR THAT BUT IT ISNT IT IS THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM. AFTER PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED IT STILL HAPPENS. I LIVE IN A SMALL RURAL COMMUNITY WITH ALOT OF TRAINS AND I DONT FEEL THAT MY TRUCK SHOULD BE STALLING ON THE RAILROAD TRACKS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. AFTER LOOKING AROUND ON THE NET TO FIND HELP THERE IS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHAT HAPPENS IF THE VEHICLE STALLS IN THE WRONG PLACE OR AN EMERGENCY COMES UP AND IT WILL NOT START. SOMEONE COULD GET SERIOUSLY HURT OR EVEN KILLED. I BELEIVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. MY VEHICLE ITSELF STALLED FOR 10 MIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT COULD FIX THE PROBLEM EXCEPT THERE IS WAYS TO BYPASS IT. REWIRE YOUR IGNITION SWITCH. THIS COULD CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS. OR YOU CAN BUY A FIFTY DOLLAR BYPASS MODULE. TRUCK WILL RUN FINE UNTIL WARM. PULLING INTO STOP SIGN, GARAGE, TRAFFIC LIGHT,PARKING LOT ETC. TRUCK WILL SHUT OFF. ALTERNATOR GAUGE PULLS DOWN BELOW 9 VOLTS. NEW ALT. I FULLY SUGGEST THAT YOU DO AN INVESTIGATION ON GMC/CHEVY PICK-UP TRUCKS. I, ALONG WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING FUEL GAUGE PROBLEMS. THE FUEL GAUGES ARE GOING OUT VERY QUICKLY. THEY CONSTANTLY SHOW THAT YOU EITHER HAVE A FULL OR AN EMPTY TANK WHEN NEITHER MAY BE THE CASE. YOU NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK. IT ALSO MAKES THE LOW FUEL LIGHT STAY ON CONSTANTLY. G M CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE THEM UNDER WARRANTY IF THEY FAILED AGAIN IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. INJECTORS FAILED AT 234,000 MILES AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICE RENIGGED ON THEIR WORD. MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD FAILURES IN 30,000 TO 40,000 MILES. THEY ARE REPLACING PARTS WITH REMANUFACTURED PARTS AND THEY ARE NOT LASTING. GM DEALERS ARE CHARGING $3600.00 TO $4,500.00 TO REPLACE THESE INJECTORS OUT OF WARRANTY. IT IS PLAIN THAT THEY KNOW THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE INJECTORS WHEN THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON INJECTORS FROM 100,000 TO 200,000 MILES OR SEVEN YEARS. KUHMO ROAD VENTURE AT TIRE 245/75R/16 TREAD SEPARATION. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT WITH TIRES UNDER 10,000 MILES FOR THIS BRAND AND SIZE TIRE. THE FIRST INCIDENT TORE UP THE SIDE OF MY PICKUP WHILE TOWING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER. WHEN THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED, I FELT A VIBRATION IN THE TRUCK AND PULLED INTO A ROADSIDE REST AREA. AFTER I STOPPED AND WAS ALMOST OUT OF THE TRUCK, I HEARD A LOUD POP AND THE TIRE TREAD HAD SEPARATED RIPPING THE SIDE OF THE TIRE OUT. AGAIN, TOWING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER. IN THE FIRST INCIDENT KUHMO ARGUED FOR THREE MONTHS THAT I HAD DRIVEN THE TIRE FLAT. THEY FINALLY AGREED TO REPLACE THE TIRE AND REPAIR MY TRUCK. THESE TIRES ARE UNSAFE FOR HIGHWAY USE.

MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 3500 WITH A 8.1L V8 ENGINE STALLED WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. IT WOULD NOT RESTART UNTIL A "COOL" DOWN PERIOD. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THE RECALL FROM GMC (06083 -- CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR ENGINE STALL) AND CALLED THE DEALER WHICH INFORMED ME THAT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I THEN CALLED GMC'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXPLAINED THAT I'M HAVING THE EXACT PROBLEMS LISTED ON THE EXACT VEHICLE WITH THE EXACT ENGINE LISTED. ALSO I HAVE SINCE FOUND 3 OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH NHTSA OF THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER VEHICLES THAT WERE NOT COVERED. I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA 4 WD PICK-UP WITH 45,000 MILES THAT EXPERIENCED ANTI-LOCK FAILURE.THE SYSTEM WOULD START PULSATING AT LOW SPEEDS. I HAD MANY CLOSE CALLS(SMASHED IN TO MY GARAGE DOOR ONCE) BEFORE PULLING THE FUSE AS ADVISED BY THE GM DEALER.AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND THAT MOST EVERYONE THAT I KNOW WITH 99-2002 YEAR GM VEHICLES HAD THEIR FUSES PULLED AS WELL. I CALLED GM PREVIOUSLY REGARDING OTHER BRAKE PROBLEMS (ANTI-LOCK PUMP FAILURE)(GM ROTORS THAT ONLY LAST 6,000 MIES) AND THE ARROGANT CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSONEL TRY TO CONVINCE YOU THAT THEY HAVEN'T HAD ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEIR BRAKE PARTS OR SYSTEMS AND WON'T COVER ANYTHING EVEN THOUGH WE KNOW THEY ARE LIARS. I SAW THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION NOTICE AND WANTED TO GIVE MY TWO CENTS. THANKS FOR MAKING THESE CROOKS CORRECT A DANGEROUS SITUATION.

SERVICE BRAKES,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Truck has just over 150k miles. Maintained well and garaged when possible. 1) Noticed a fuel smell from the driver side door area and after parking for a long weekend, a small pool of liquid formed in front of the driver side rear wheel. It was fuel dripping from the line leaving the evap canister that had rusted through. Resulted in a $600 repair to replace all rusted fuel lines so as to eliminate the risk of fire. 2) When approaching an intersection to make a left turn and slowing down the brake pedal pushes to the floor with no stopping power at all. Used the engine/trans in manual mode to slow the truck down and avoid an accident. Driver side brake lines are blown out in multiple spots near the ABS module due to corrosion. Potential cost based on research is in the $1000 ballpark. This level of rust on critical vehicle components is irresponsible and potentially deadly. GM needs to take this more seriously and realize that their cost-cutting measures are putting people and their families in grave danger.

I AM ORINGINAL OWNER AT THE SAME ADDRESS WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW ! I MISSED THE RECALLS BECAUSE I NEVER WAS NOTIFIED ! ITS SAD TO BUY A GM PRODUCT AND THEY DON'T ALERT ME TO A RECALL ! SIRS/MADAM; SINCE NEW THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN SPONGY. THEY WORK BUT, I AM ALWAYS ON ALERT. THE ABS HAS NEVER WORKED PROPERLY. I HAVE REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS WITH GROOVED AND RELIEVED WITH DRILLED HOLES. I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE LINING ALL AROUND. WITH NO DIFFERENCE. MY PICKUP IS EQUIPPED WITH ROTORS. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE PICKUP. WAS TOLD THE IS/WAS NO WARRANTY IMPLIED FOR BRAKING SYSTEMS. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE FLUID FLUSHED, STILL NO DIFFERENCE. I AM VERY EASY ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC TRANS AND I USE IT LIKE A STANDARD. THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES THAT I COULD THINK OF, MIGHT BE THE EQUALIZER VALVE. I AM ONLY A NOVICE WITH THESE BRAKES EVEN THOUGH I AM A MECHANIC BY TRADE. PERTAINING TO THE PARK BRAKE. AFTER A FASHION AND $246 SPENT AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID I HAD LEFT THE PARK BRAKE ON, WHICH I DID NOT, I FIGURED OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THE CONTACT SURFACE FOR THE PARK BRAKE LINING WAS EGG SHAPED. I HAD IT MACHINED, RE-INSTALLED THE COMPONENTS AND MY PARK BRAKE WAS NOW FUNCTIONAL. FROM NEW, I WAS UNABLE TO USE THE PARK BRAKE BECAUSE IT NEVER WORKED. NOW THE PARK BRAKE HOLDS MY PICKUP. TO WIT A FEW YEARS PAST THERE WAS LAW SUIT WHICH I JOINED BECAUSE OF THIS VERY PROBLEM. I DID RECEIVE COMPENSATION WHICH MADE UP FOR THE COST AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR "REPAIRS". I UNDERSTAND THIS 12 YEARS IN THE MAKING BUT, THE BRAKING PROBLEM PERSISTS. STEERING WHEEL JERKS IN HAND WHEN DEPRESSING BRAKES WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. THIS CAN BE DUPLICATED WITH THE VEHICLE IDLING IN NEUTRAL OR PARK. DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO FIX PROBLEM ON 01/25/02 BY REPLACING THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND BRAKE BOOSTER. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PICK UP MY TRUCK ON THE 25TH, I WAS NOTIFIED BY MARCUS THAT THEY HAD NOT FOUND THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEY CONSIDERED THE PROBLEM A SAFETY ISSUE, I WASN'T ALLOWED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE BUT WAS GIVEN A LOANER TO DRIVE. MY VEHICLE WAS RETURNED ON THE 29TH AND I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THE DEALERSHIP COULD DUPLICATE THE "PROBLEM" ON ANOTHER NEW VEHICLE ON THE LOT, GM HAD DETERMINED IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM BUT A "CHARACTERISTIC" OF THIS VEHICLE WITH THE POWER ASSIST. AFTER FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED, THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START. *PH WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY, IT WOULD NOT START. THE FUEL PUMP WAS CHANGED BUT NOT THE CONNECTOR. THE PROBLEM RESURFACED AND QUIT RUNNING NUMEROUS TIMES. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL CAP WAS NOT TIGHT ENOUGH WHICH CAUSED THIS PROBLEM. (THE CAP WAS TIGHTENED) THE VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING WHILE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT MORE THAN ONCE. THE CONSUMER HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND HAD TO PAY FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS THEN OUT OF WARRANTY. THE TRANSMISSION VIOLENTLY SHIFTS INTO GEAR UPON ACCELERATION FROM A STOP OR SLOW SPEED. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AS MANY AS TEN TIMES SINCE THE ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE. ON MAY 4TH IT OCCURED SO VIOLENTLY THAT THE PASSENGER IN THE REAR HIT HIS HEAD ON THE REAR WINDOW. IN THIS INCIDENT THE SHIFT WAS SO HARD THE REAR WHEELS LEFT THE GROUND(ALL 4) AND THEN THE TRUCK LURCHED FORWARD. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT COULD CAUSED HARM TO THOSE INSIDE THE TRUCK AND COULD HARM OTHER DRIVERS OR PEDESTRIANS. THE TRUCK SEEMS TO GO TO A NEUTRAL OPERATION EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE IN DRIVE THEN WHEN THE RPM"S ICREASE TO ABOVE 2,000 IT SUDDENLY SHIFTS. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES AND RECENTLY COMPLETED ARBITRATION TO TAKE THE TRUCK BACK. THE GMC REPRESENITIVE CLAIMED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL FOR A "HEAVY DUTY" TRANSMISSION SUCH AS THE ALLISON. I PARKED MY VEHICLE AND UPON EXITING OBSERVED FLUID DRIPS ON THE PAVEMENT. I TOUCHED AND SMELLED THE FLUID AND DETERMINED IT TO BE BRAKE FLUID. I THEN OBSERVED FLUID DRIPPING FROM BENEATH THE DRIVERS SIDE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I IMMEDIATELY CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID RES. AND OBSERVED IT TO BE BELOW THE 1/2 POINT. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES FROM MY HOME AND DECIDED TO TAKE THE BACK ROAD WHICH REQUIRED LESS BRAKING. THE FLUID WAS STILL LEAKING UPON MY ARRIVAL HOME. I SHOULD NOTE THERE WAS NO FLUID LEAKING PRIOR TO DEPARTING MY RESIDENCE. I DID NOTICE THE PEDAL TRAVEL TO HAVE INCREASED AND THE FEEL TO BE SLIGHTLY SPONGY AS I DROVE DOWN A STEEP GRADE REQUIRING SIGNIFICANT BRAKING TO MAINTAIN THE 35 MPH LIMIT INTO HAVRE DE GRACE. THE VEHICLE (2001 GMC 2500HD) IS NOT DRIVEN MUCH AND MOSTLY FOR LOCAL (<15 MILES) TRAVEL. THE FRONT ROTORS AND CALIPERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND THE LINES BLED APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS AGO. THERE IS RUST EVIDENT ON THE BRAKE LINES. BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO SEVERELY RUSTED BRAKE LINE AT DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL. RUST IS SEVERE ON ALL SURFACES UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. WILL REQUIRE COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF ALL BRAKE LINES AND OTHER ASSORTED BRAKE COMPONENTS. ABS WAS MALFUNCTIONING PRIOR TO BRAKE LINE RUPTURE, LIKELY DUE TO CORROSION WITHIN WHEEL/HUB ASSEMBLY. THIS MALFUNCTION IS KNOWN TO GMC, AND OCCURS BY THE ABS ERRONEOUSLY SENSING WHEEL STOPPAGE AT LOW SPEED, CAUSING THE SYSTEM TO ACTIVATE AND INABILITY TO STOP. I BOUGHT A GMC SIERRA C-1500 PICKUP TRUCK, NEW IN 2001. IN SEPT '05, THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON & A HUMMING NOISE COULD BE HEARD EVEN AFTER THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. THE ODOMETER WAS AT 50,000 MILES, AT THAT TIME. THE PROBLEM WAS THE EBCM SHORTED-OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NOW, 31,000 MILES & 3 YEARS LATER (81,000 TOTAL MILES), IT SHORTED-OUT AGAIN & NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE COST OF THIS PART ALONE IS $1,000.00 (+ OVER $200.00 INSTALLATION). THAT PART ISN'T EVEN SUBJECTED TO NORMAL 'WEAR & TEAR' LIKE BRAKES, BECAUSE IT'S NOT A MOVING PART. IT'S A COMPUTER MODULE THAT CONTROLS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES, THAT IS VITAL IN CASE OF EMERGENCY BRAKING, WHICH LUCKILY I HAVEN'T NEEDED TO USE. I DON'T KNOW IF THE EBCM (PART) IS DEFECTIVE ITSELF OR IF SOMETHING ELSE IS CAUSING IT TO SHORT OUT, BUT I DON'T THINK THIS PART SHOULD FAIL, THIS OFTEN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA C3. WHEN THE VEHICLE APPROACHES A STOP, THE ABS GRAB AND MAKE IT HARDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS FAILURE OCCURRED ONE YEAR EARLIER WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ALSO FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO FAIL INSPECTION. A LOCAL MECHANIC INFORMED HIM THAT THE WHEEL SENSORS POSSIBLY NEEDED TO BE CLEANED OR REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE REPAIRS WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $1,500. I AM WRITING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT A 2001 GMC SIERRA. IT HAS A SAFETY RECALL FOR THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WHICH CAN ALSO DAMAGE THE HUB ASSEMBLY, BUT THE DEALERSHIP STILL WANTS TO CHARGE A WHOPPING $550 REPLACEMENT FEE. THEY SAY THEY CAN NOT REPLACE THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WITHOUT REPLACING THE HUB ASSEMBLY EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN RECALLED. THE BAD SPEED SENSOR IS CAUSING THE ABS TO MALFUNCTION AT LOW SPEEDS AND IT IS ALSO SMELLING LIKE ELECTRICAL FIRE, THE PROBLEM HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE DRIVE HE TRUCK AND I AM WORRIED THAT IT WILL SOON CATCH FIRE. DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE LEFT FRONT SIDE WHEEL LOCKED UP AND WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK IT. DRIVER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE ABS AND BREAK SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON AND STAYING ON. I LOST MY BREAKS LEAVING A PARKING SPOT AT MY LOCAL WALMART AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT! WHEN MY ISSUES STARTED, I WOULD FILL MY GAS TANK AND THE GAS GAUGE WOULD PLUMMET TO EMPTY. WHILE DRIVING, IT WOULD GO TO FULL, BACK TO EMPTY OR BE ANYWHERE IN BETWEEN. AT THAT TIME, THERE NO NO MECHANICAL ISSUES, JUST THE ANNOYING FACT THAT YOU HAD NO IDEA HOW MUCH FUEL YOU ACTUALLY HAD. THIS WENT ON UNTIL THIS SPRING, WHEN I HAD THE FIRST POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS INCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A COUNTY HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY THE SPEED LIMIT AND THE TRUCK'S ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. NO POWER STEERING, NOTHING. IT HAPPENED JUST AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP SIGN THANKFULLY. I WAS ABOUT 50 MILES FROM HOME AND WAS ABLE TO CALL A FRIEND THAT MANAGES THE COLLISION CENTER OF A LOCAL CAR DEALERSHIP TO SEE ABOUT GETTING A TOW OR HIS OPINION AS TO WHAT WAS WRONG. AFTER ABOUT TEN MINUTES AND AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS, IT RESTARTED. I TALKED TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND GOT THE SAME ANSWER FROM ALL OF THEM: THE FUEL PUMP AND SENDING UNIT FAIL IN GMC TRUCKS AROUND THE MILEAGE, 95,000 MILES, THAT I CURRENTLY HAVE ON THE TRUCK. THE GAS GAUGE IS STILL ERRATIC, I HAVE HAD TWO EPISODES OF THE VEHICLE STALLING AND NOW THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT IS COMING ON AND WHEN IT IS PUT ON AN ANALYZER IT SAYS EMISSIONS, BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM. TWO THINGS STARTED TO HAPPEN 1. THE TRUCK WHEN COMING TO A STOP OF A SPEED OF LESS THEN 25 MPH STARTED TO LOSE ITS BRAKES AND FEEL SPONGY. THIS CONTINUED UNTIL I GOT IT IN THE SHOP WHICH WAS ABOUT TWO DAYS. 2. THE TRUCK STARTED TO RUN VERY ROUGH AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS COMING ON AT THE SAME TIME AS WELL. AFTER I GOT IT IN THE SHOP AND THEY GOT IT UP ON A LIFT THEY FOUND THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES WERE ALL MOST RUSTED THROUGH AND STARTING TO LEAK. THEY HAD TO REPLACE ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES, FUEL LINES AND SINCE THEY HAD THE FUEL TANK DOWN THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP BECAUSE THEY FOUND RUST AND DIRT IN THE OLD PUMP. THE SHOP MECHANIC SAID THE LINES WERE READY TO FAIL AT ANY MOMENT. THE CHEVY DEALER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK OFF OF JUST FOUR MONTHS EARLY HAD JUST INSPECTED IT AND HAD SEEN THE RUSTED LINES AND EVEN REPAIRED A PIECE OF ONE OF THE FUEL LINES BUT LEFT THE REST GO TO FAIL DOWN THE ROAD, THEY GAVE ME LITTLE TO NO HELP. IT STARTED WITH THE FUEL GAUGE FLUCTUATING BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY WITH A FULL TANK OF GAS AND THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT ON DASH LIGHTING UP FOR APPARENTLY NO REASON. I CALLED GM WHO RESPONDED QUICKLY AND STATED THEY WOULD SEND AN INVESTIGATION TEAM OUT. AFTER COMMUNICATION BETWEEN GM AND MY INSURANCE CO, GM STATED THEY WERE GOING TO WORK WITH THE INSURANCE AND CLOSE THE CASE WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE. I FEEL SOMEBODY SHOULD INSPECT THIS TRUCK AS WE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN KILLED OUT THERE AND TRUCKS SHOULD NOT SPONTANEOUSLY GO UP IN FLAMES! WE STARTED CHECKING ALL IGNITION CONNECTIONS, FUSES, GROUNDS ETC. IT STOPPED FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WERE IT WILL SHUT OFF THREE AND FOUR TIMES PER TRIP. WHILE MYSELF AND TWO OTHER PASSENGERS WERE WORKING IN LUGOFF SC IT SHUT OFF ON US IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY, NEARLY CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THAT IF IT DID IT AGAIN TO CALL THEM AND THEY WOULD SEND A SERVICE TECH OUT TO LOOK AT IT. DISC ROTOR DELAMINATION, ANTI-LOCK CONTROL. I WAS PULLING A 3/4 TON VAN STUCK IN HIS YARD, AS I GOT HIM CLOSE TO THE HARD SURFACE ( DRIVEWAY) I PUT ON THE BRAKES AND THE TRUCK WOULDN'T STOP, IT HIT THE CORNER OF HIS BLOCK HOUSE. NO DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE HOWEVER I HAD TO REPLACE ALL BUT HOOD AND ONE HEADLIGHT ASSY. 10 MPH AND NEITHER BAG DEPLOYED. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY OWN STUPIDITY UNTIL READING ALL THE ISSUES ON HERE W/ GM'S BRAKING PROBLEMS. I FEEL A BIT BETTER ABOUT MYSELF. THE BIG ISSUE !! ALL FOUR ROTORS DELAMINATED W/ 46,000 MILES THIS IS THE 1ST NEW TRUCK I'VE OWNED AND BELIEVE ME IT'S BEEN BABIED FOR SURE. I WAS TOLD BY MY SERVICE DEALER THERE WAS NOTHING GM WOULD DO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IT WAS MY PROBLEM FOR NOT DRIVING IT AS MUCH AS I SHOULD (B.S.) DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE ME A GRAND TO REPLACE ALL THE ROTORS AND PADS I DID IT FOR 500.00 AND STILL HAVE THE OLD PARTS. I'M SURE GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS, IT IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE DID I FAIL TO MENTION THE MUFFLER HAD A RATTLE IN IT AND WAS REPLACED WITHIN THE 1ST 1000 MILES, THE THUMP IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT HAS NO WAY TO BE LUBRICATED. THE EMERGENCY BRAKES ON MY TRUCK HAVE ONLY BEEN ACTUALLY USED 4-5 TIMES. THEY DO NOT HOLD AND I'M TOLD WILL NOT PASS MY ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTION. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY SEVERAL MECHANICS ( AND CONFIDENTIALLY BY A SERVICE REP AT A DEALER) THAT THE DESIGN OF THE GMC AND CHEVROLET EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM IS POORLY DESIGNED AND WHETHER ENGAGED OR NOT , THE BRAKESHOES ARE CONTINOUSLY IN CONTACT W/THE DRUMS, CAUSING THEM TO WEAR OUT VERY QUICKLY - BECOMING COMPLETELY USELESS AND VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPARE AND REPLACE - NOT TO MENTION VERY DANGEROUS.

THE CONSUMER HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE AND A PULSATING SENSATION IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE MAKING TURNS. *NM THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE WRONG LUBRICANT WAS USED AT THE FACTORY FOR THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT. THE SHAFT WAS UNABLE TO BE LUBRICATED BECAUSE THE LUBRICANT WOULD NOT PENETRATE BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND SLEEVE. THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE.
