TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE REVERSING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED, WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BOWSER AUTOMOTIVE (132-168 NORTH LEWIS RUN ROAD, WEST MIFFLIN, PA 15236, (412) 469-2100) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

WHEN OPERATING VEHICLE AT SLOW SPEED AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP ANTI LOCK BRAKES ENGAGE AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE IS REQUIRED. THIS VEHICLE WAS RECALLED FOR SAME PROBLEM IN 2005. I MADE AN ATTEMPT AT MY LOCAL GMC DEALER TO REMEDY THIS CONTINUING PROBLEM. HOWEVER, I WAS INFORMED THAT GENERAL MOTORS WOULD ONLY MAKE ONE ATTEMPT TO REMEDY ISSUE AND THAT I ALREADY HAD USED THAT. THE DEALER REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT I COULD PULL THE FUSE ON THE ABS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD PERFORM STOPPING WITHOUT THE AID OF ABS AND WOULD STOP NORMALLY IN DRY ENVIRONMENT, WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF ANTI LOCK BRAKES. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND IS A TREMENDOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I DID TAKE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO DROVE VEHICLE IN HIS PARKING LOT AND THE PROBLEM OCCURRED TO HIM ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH IN HIS LOT. *JB

I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MILES AN HOUR COMING DOWN AN OVERPASS. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND I NARROWLY AVOIDED A CRASH. I TOOK TO MY MECHANIC. THEY SAID THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. I AM NOT GETTING THIS FIXED AS IT IS AN OLDER TRUCK BUT I DO THINK THAT SOMEONE COULD DIE FROM THIS DEFECT.

LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL ON ICY ROADS. I RECENTLY LOST CONTROL OF MY TRUCK WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 45MPH ON AN ICY HIGHWAY IN BOULDER, CO. BECAUSE THE LOSS WAS SO INSTANTANEOUS RESULTING IN THE TRUCK SPINNING 90 DEGREES TO THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL, I QUESTION IF THE LIMITED SLIP FUNCTION WOULD CAUSE POWER TO TRANSFER TO A WHEEL IF IT SUDDENLY HIT DRY PAVEMENT, WHILE THE OTHER WHEEL WAS SPINNING ON ICE, RESULTING IN A SPIN OUT. THIS IS ONLY MY THEORY BUT WITH 57 YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE AND THE FACT THAT I HAVE HAD WEIRD EXPERIENCES WITH LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIALS IN THE PAST I THOUGHT MY THEORY MAY HAVE SOME VALIDITY. WHILE DRIVING OF A CITY STREET, AT A SLOW RATE (10-15MPH) AND TAKING A SLOW, APPROXIMATELY 90 DEGREE LEFT TURN, I HEARD A LOUD "POPPING/BREAKING SOUND". WHILE MAKING THE TURN, I INITIALLY HAD TURNING CAPABILITIES UNTIL I HEARD THE "POP" SOUND. UPON HEARING THE SOUND, I NO LONGER HAD THE ABILITY TO TURN THE WHEELS TO EITHER DIRECTION. UPON STOPPING AND TURNING OFF THE TRUCK, I FOUND THE PITMAN ARM(CONNECTED TO STEERING BOX AND STEERING BAR) WAS DETACHED FROM THE STEERING BAR BUT STILL ATTACHED TO STEERING BOX. THE BOLT OF THE PITMAN ARM HAD BROKEN OFF CLEANLY FROM THE STEERING BAR, RENDERING MY STEERING CAPABILITIES INEFFECTUAL. ATTACHED IS A PICTURE OF THE PITMAN ARM SHEERED BOLT. I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT THAT THIS DEFECTIVE PIECE OF MATERIAL COULD HAVE COST DAMAGE TO LIFE, PROPERTY AND POTENTIALLY DEATH OF MYSELF OR OTHERS ON THE ROAD. I WOULD LIKE SOME FORM OF RESTITUTION ON PART OF THE MANUFACTURE. THE TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIR WAS APPROXIMATELY $225 USD. DEAR SIR, I HAVE A 2002 GMC PICKUP THAT HAS HAD THE SPARE TIRE FALL OUT OF ITS MOUNT DUE TO SEVERE RUST OF THE FRAME. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION MY FRAME HAS SEVERE RUST IN SEVERAL OTHER AREAS. I HAVE CONTACTED GMC AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD TO HAVE A NICE DAY! I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND IT HAS 57,000 MILES TOTAL. 2002 GMC SIERRA THE GALVANIZED STEEL SUPPORT CABLES THAT RETAIN THE TAILGATE IN THE OPEN POSITION CORRODE THROUGH AND BREAK WHERE CARGO OR PEOPLE ON THE TAILGATE MAY FALL. CARGO FALLING OF THE TAILGATE VERY NEARLY STRUCK A NEARBY PERSON AND INJURY WAS LUCKILY AVOIDED. THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE ON THE VEHICLE, THE FIRST TIME GMC REPLACED THE CABLES UNDER WARRANTY AND SUGGESTED THAT THIS WAS A RANDOM FAILURE. MOST RECENTLY THEY HAVE REFUSED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I SAT ON MY TAIL GATE AND THE TAIL GATE FELL DOWN. WHEN I LOOKED I HAD ONE BROKE CABLE AND THE OTHER SIDE THE BOLT WAS MISSING. I BOUGHT TWO CABLES FROM ADVANCE AUTO REPLACED ONE SIDE BUT I COULD NOT GET THE BOLT BACK IN THE OTHER SIDE. I WAS PLANNING TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND FOR THE RECALL BUT THE GATE FELL OFF THE TRUCK AND I DID NOT KNOW IT HAD FELL OFF AND I DRAGGED IT DOWN A DIRT ROAD FOR ABOUT HALF MILE OR MORE. I TRIED TO GET GMC TO REPLACE THE TAIL GATE BUT THEY JUST WANTED TO REPLACE THE CABLE SAYING THAT THE CABLE DID NOT CAUSE THE TAIL GATE TO FALL OFF AND THE DAMAGE WAS NOT DUE TO THE CABLES. ON CONSULTING WITH THE LOCAL GARAGE, I DISCOVERED THIS WAS NOT AN ANOMALY, BUT , RATHER, A COMMON OCCURRENCE. MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OVER THE YEARS WITH GM PRODUCTS IS THAT FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS COULD BE PACKED OR REPLACED AT REASONABLE COST, AND THE PARTS PROVIDED AUDIBLE NOTICE OF FAILURE. RESULTS IN FAVOR OF GMC ARBITRATOR AGREED MIRROR IS MFG DEFECT, BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE IN GETTING IT REPAIRED. OTHER 2002 LIKE VEHICLES WERE TESTED AND FOUND TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE TRUCK HAS SEVERAL BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD STUDS THAT ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT CAUSING FAILURE OF CORRECT EMISSION CONTROLS THROUGH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AND OUT OF THE HEADERS INSTEAD. NEITHER THE LEFT NOR RIGHT CARGO GATE LATCH BOLTS FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN THE GATE WAS IN THE FULL UPRIGHT POSITION AND WHERE IT SHOULD HAVE LATCHED. THIS ALLOWED THE GATE TO FALL OPEN WHEN ACCELERATING. LUBRICATION WITH A SILICONE WAX SPRAY DID NOT SEEM TO FREE THE BOLTS. REPEATED LIFTING OF THE CENTER HANDLE ON THE GATE FOLLOWED BY QUICK RELEASE DID NOT RESULT IN THE LATCH BOLTS ENGAGING AND THE HANDLE SUBSEQUENTLY BROKE WITH MINIMAL EFFORT. ONCE THE HANDLE WAS REMOVED, CONTACT POINTS ON THE REMAINING HANDLE HARDWARE AND LATCH BOLTS THEN ALLOWED FREE MOVEMENT OF THE LATCH BOLTS. THE HANDLE HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED BUT THE LATCHES ON THE GATE ARE EASILY OPENED BY PULLING BOTH CABLES TOWARDS THE MIDDLE. CONTACT SURFACES SHOW LITTLE OR NO CORROSION OR DEBRIS. THE GATE WAS ALWAYS TESTED FOR CLOSURE AND IT IS SUSPECTED THAT THE LATCH BOLTS WERE ONLY PARTIALLY CLOSING AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE GATE HAD BEEN FOUND OPEN AND ITEMS LOST IN THE PAST BUT IT HAD BEEN THOUGHT THE GATE HAD JUST BEEN LEFT OPEN RATHER HAVING BEEN CLOSED FOLLOWED BY FALLING OPEN AFTER LATCH FAILURE. *TR

MY ISSUE WITH MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 REGULAR CAB LONG BED IS RELATED TO AN ABS WHEEL SENSOR RECALL. I HAD MY TRUCK SERVICED IN DEC 2005 FOR THE RECALL PROBLEM. THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM IS CORROSION AT THE ABS WHEEL SENSOR WHICH CAUSES THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM TO ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN STOPPING WHICH IN TURN INCREASES THE STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT CANNOT BE NEGLECTED. I HAD GONE TO THE BOB ROSS BUICK/GMC DEALERSHIP IN CENTERVILLE, OH ON 4/30/2009 ' ORIGINAL DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK. THEY PERFORMED AN INSPECTION FOR $64.95 PLUS TAX AND 10% SHOP SUPPLIES CHARGE. THEY TOLD ME THAT SINCE THE TRUCK WAS ALREADY SERVICED FOR THE RECALL, THAT I AM NOT COVERED TO RE-REPAIR/REWORK THE TRUCK FOR THE RECURRENCE OF THE PROBLEM. I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER CARE AND WORKED WITH A REPRESENTATIVE NAMED AL AND THEN AFTER HE SAID HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME FROM GM CORPORATE I WAS CONNECTED TO GM DISTRICT SPECIALIST DONALD HOWELL (1-800-790-5700 X41958). DONALD ALSO EVENTUALLY SAID THAT GM WOULD NOT HELP WITH GETTING THE WORK PERFORMED. THE SERVICE REQUEST # FOR MY CASE IS 71-758818423. MY REQUIREMENT FOR RESOLUTION IS THAT GM REPAIRS THE ISSUE AT NO COST TO ME, MOST PREFERABLY BY REPLACING THE ABS WHEEL SENSORS WITH NEW ONES LESS LIKELY TO CORRODE. I'M SURE THAT THE NEW PRODUCT DESIGN HAS THE CORROSION ISSUE IN MIND AND HAS FOUND A WAY TO AVOID IT. AS THE REPAIR HISTORY OF MY VEHICLE SHOULD STATE, THE ABS WHEEL SENSORS WERE CLEANED AND THEN SPRAY PAINTED WITH A 'CORROSION RESISTANT PAINT' TO FIX THE ISSUE IN DEC 2005. AS AN AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEER WHO WORKED FOR GM/DELPHI FOR 14 YEARS OF MY PROFESSIONAL CAREER, I KNOW THAT WHAT WAS PERFORMED PREVIOUSLY IS NOT A PERMANENT FIX. I ALSO AM WILLING TO BET THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY CUSTOMER WITH RECURRENCE OF THIS ISSUE. HAD IT BEEN FIXED CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME ' WITH NEW ABS SENSORS - THEN THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT HAVE RECURRED. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, THIS TRUCK HAS HAD FRAME DAMAGE CAUSED BY RUST / CORROSION TO THE EXTENT THAT IT EITHER WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION OR IT COMPROMISED THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE FRAME CROSS-MEMBERS HAVE HAD HOLES ROTTED THROUGH THEM AND THE SHOCK MOUNTS HAVE ROTTED FROM THE FRAME. HEARD NOISE WHEN TOWING TRAILER AND I STOP. A BRIEF INSPECTION OF THE RECEIVER HITCH INSTALLED ON VEHICLE SHOWED BROKEN WELDS AND TEARING METAL DUE TO THE BROKEN WELDS. I CALLED GMC TO REPORT SAFETY ISSUE AND HAVE REPAIRED. THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY HITCHES IN STOCK AND SAID THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I TOLD THEM THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS PROBLEM WITH NO RESPONSE. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT NOT A WEAR OR ABUSE ISSUE AND COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS INCIDENT INCLUDING A FATALITY. I HAVE THE CASE # THAT I WAS GIVEN BY THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. WITHIN 60 DAYS OF PURCHASE (01/19/2002 I REPORTED TO THE SELLING DEALER (DENNIS DILLON GMC, BOISE, ID) THAT THE HITCH BOX WAS EXTREMELY LOOSE ALLOWING THE TOWING HITCH TO MOVE BOTH VERTICALLY AND HORIZONTALLY WHEN INSTALLED ON THE TRUCK. HAVING OVER 12 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN THE RV INDUSTRY I KNEW IT TO BE WORRY SOME. I PRESSED THE POINT SUCH THAT A REGIONAL REP LOOKED AT IT. THE EVENTUAL RESPONSE WAS THAT THE HITCH WAS BUILT TO SPECIFICATION AND THEY FELT NOTHING WAS WRONG. ANNUAL INSPECTION OF RECEIVER HITCH (TRAILER HITCH) IN EARLY 2006 SHOWED A MARKED TWIST OF THE RECEIVER BOX THAT THE TRAILER HITCH SHANK RIDES IN. CLOSER INSPECTION OF THE HITCH BOX SHOWED A SEPARATION AT THE FORWARD END OF THE HITCH BOX AND A PRONOUNCED DISTORTION OF THE WEEP HOLES IN THE TORQUE TUBE (CROSS MEMBER). I WAS TOWING MY 33 FT 2000 THOR TRAVEL TRAILER, USING MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD CREW CAB DIESEL TRUCK. AS I PULLED INTO MY STORAGE LOT THE TRAILER HITCH RECEIVER THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE WELDED TO A FACTORY INSTALLED LOAD LEVELER TRAILER HITCH COMPLETELY BROKE OFF. THE SAFETY CHAINS AND THE SAFETY BRAKE PULL WIRE WERE ALL ATTACHED TO THE HITCH RECEIVER. SUBSEQUENTLY THE TRAILER SEPARATED FROM THE TRUCK WITH NO SAFETY EQUIPMENT ATTACHED. THE TRAILER CRASHED TO THE GROUND DAMAGING THE FRONT TOWING PART OF THE TRAILER, SLIDE OUT HYDRAULICS AND AIR CONDITIONER SO FAR. I TOOK THE GMC TRUCK AND THE BROKEN HITCH TO RYDEL GMC IN VAN NUYS, CALIFORNIA. THEY SAID THAT IT LOOKED LIKE THE WELD HAD NEVER TAKEN BECAUSE THERE WAS PAINT BETWEEN THE WELD AND THE TRUCK BODY. RYDEL SAID THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT THE FACTORY REP TO GET AN OK TO FIX THE HITCH. THE FACTORY REP TOLD THEM THAT MY ''GOOD WILL TIME'' WAS USED, WHATEVER THAT MEANS, AND THAT I HAD TOO MANY MILES ON THE TRUCK (67,000), AS IF MILEAGE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. I ASKED IF THEIR TOWING HITCHES HAD A LIMITED MILEAGE WARRANTY, I GOT NO ANSWER. I TOOK THE PART OF THE HITCH THAT BROKE OFF AND THE TRUCK TO A CERTIFIED WELD SHOP FOR A SECOND OPINION ON THE QUALITY OF THE WELD. I WAS TOLD THAT MOST OF THE WELD HAD NEVER ADHERED TO THE METAL AND THE PART OF THE WELD THAT BROKE NEVER BONDED TO THE STEEL. THE CERTIFIED HITCH WELD SHOP SAID IT WILL COST $550.00 TO REMOVE THE OLD HITCH AND INSTALL A NEW ONE. I FEEL THAT THE DEFECTIVE WELD ON THE HITCH COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ROAD HAZARD AND POTENTIAL LOSS OF LIFE. DT: 2002 GMC SIERRA. THE CONSUMER STATES THE STEERING SHAFT BOUNCED UP AND DOWN, IT WAS NOT CORRECTLY PUT IN. THIS CAUSED THE FRONT END BOUNCE FROM THE STEERING BOX TO THE STEERING WHEEL. INTERMITTENT SURGES, LOSS OF POWER WHILE IN MOTION, TRANSMISSION, LACK OF ACCELERATION. *MR AT PURCHASE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THREE TIMES BEFORE LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP LOT. DEALER ADVISED THAT THE DEALER INSTALLED REMOTE STARTER OR ALARM SYSTEM WAS INTERFERING WITH FAULT SENSOR AND WAS NOT A PROBLEM. HOWEVER THE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING, INTERMITTENT SURGES AND STALL OUTS AT FREEWAY SPEED/85 MPH STILL EXISTED. ON ONE OCCASION CONSUMER WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION CLANGED BETWEEN GEARS AND THERE WAS POOR ACCELERATION. CONSUMER HAD TO SHIFT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE OR MANUALLY DOWNSHIFT, OR TURN THE ENGINE OFF THEN ON AGAIN. DEALER REPLACED PCM MODULE, FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR AND GASKETS, FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. HOWEVER PROBLEM STILL EXIST. DEALERSHIP AGREED TO HOLD THE VEHICLE FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE WIRES FROM THE DEALER INSTALLED ACCESSORIES SUCH AS THE ALARM SYSTEM AND REMOTE STARTER OR ANTI-THIEF SYSTEM, AND FACTORY WIRE FROM PCM/VCM TO THE TRANSMISSION BE REPLACED. DEAR SIR OR MA'AM, I HAVE A 2002 GMC SIERRA TRUCK THAT I BOUGHT NEW IN 2002. THE BRAKES RECENTLY FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON OR ABOUT SEPTEMBER 26, 2014. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT BRAKING ACTION. FORTUNATELY SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP SAFELY AND WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. UPON EXAMINATION, THE BRAKE LINE TO THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. I EXAMINED THE REST OF THE LINES AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES, THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINE AND THE FUEL LINE ALL SHOW SIGNS OF MAJOR CORROSION, ESPECIALLY ALONG THE FRAME. I HAVE LESS THAN 43,000 MILES ON THIS TRUCK AND IT WAS GARAGE-KEPT THE FIRST NINE YEARS I OWNED IT. I LIVE IN KY WHERE THE ROADS ARE ONLY SALTED A FEW TIMES A YEAR. THE REST OF THE VEHICLE IS RELATIVELY RUST FREE. THE TRUCK IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE NOW. EVEN IF I PATCH THE LEAK, THE REST OF THE LINES COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME. I COULD SUFFER CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE WHILE TOWING MY BOAT OR HORSE TRAILER OR SIMPLY GOING DOWN A HILL. I BACKED UP INTO MY DRIVEWAY, JACKED UP THE TRUCK AND PLACED IT ON JACK STANDS. THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK WAS WET AND DRIPPING BRAKE FLUID AROUND THE ABS UNIT BENEATH THE CAB. MY WIFE APPLIED THE BRAKE WHILE I EXAMINED THE UNDERSIDE. AN APPROX. 1/8IN HOLE WAS FOUND IN THE INCREDIBLY RUSTY AND WEAK STEEL LINE RUNNING FROM THE ABS TO THE LEFT FRONT WHERE IT JOINS THE RUBBER LINE TO THE L/F CALIPER. FURTHER EXAMINATION REVEALS ALL STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE INCREDIBLY RUSTY, STRUCTURALLY WEAK AND IN DANGER OF FAILURE. THIS COULD LEAD TO A VERY SERIOUS, CATASTROPHIC CRASH WITH THE POTENTIAL OF FATALITIES. FURTHER, ALL OF THE STEEL PARTS OF THE FUEL LINES ARE ALSO VERY, VERY RUSTY AND WEAK AND WITH THE HIGH INTERNAL PRESSURES AND HIGHLY FLAMMABLE AND EXPLOSIVE GASOLINE INSIDE ARE ANOTHER SERIOUS HAZARD. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO PRESS THE PUMP ON THE TOP OF THE FILTER HOUSING UNTIL I COULD NO LONGER PRESS IT. I DID THAT AND IT STARTED UP. BE CAME VERY OBVIOUS THAT THEY WERE AWARE THAT THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING WAS CAUSING THE INJECTION SYSTEM TO LOSE SUCTION I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS FAILURE IS A COMMON FAILURE. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT. AS I WAS TURNING AT THE END OF ROW OF PARKED VEHICLES ,A PICK-UP TRUCK WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE. I APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE ONLY A RATCHETING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF MY PICK-UP. I PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL BUT IT CONTINUED TO GO FORWARD UNTIL MY TRUCK RAN INTO THE OTHER ONE. THIS HAPPENED AT A VERY LOW SPEED BUT THERE WAS STILL QUITE A BIT OF DAMAGE TO THE TRUCKS. IT ALMOST FELT LIKE THE TRUCK WAS BEING PULLED FORWARD ON ITS OWN. I GOT MY TRUCK IN TO A MECHANIC AND HE REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE FRONT WHEEL ABS SPEED SENSORS AND RELATED PARTS TWICE ON MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN 2006, THE SECOND JUST THIS WEEK. THE TRUCK HAS JUST OVER 86000 MILES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FLEETWOOD ELKHORN. THE VEHICLE HAS A DOMETIC REFRIGERATOR, MODEL RM3663. WHILE ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO WARM UP, THE CONTACT HEARD THE FURNACE AND ENTERED THE TRAILER TO TURN IT OFF. 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 P/U W/4.3 LT. V-6, I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE A/C CONDENSATION LINE COVERED THREE TIMES WITH THE FOAM INSULATION FROM MY DEALER. THEY ALSO HAVE TO CLEAN THE CORROSION FROM THE DISTRIBUTOR, REMOVE THE SCREEN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE DISTRIBUTOR, CLEAN THE SPARK PLUGS AND REPLACE THE CAP AND ROTOR ON EACH OCCASION. MY TRUCK IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AGAIN TO HAVE THE DISTRIBUTOR REPLACED. THIS IS AT A COST OF AROUND $680.00 TO REPLACE THE DISTRIBUTOR , NEW PLUGS DUE TO FOULING AND WIRES. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH GENERAL MOTORS AND TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES REGARDING THE TEMPORARY FIX (BAND-AID). THE AIR CONDITION CONDENSATION LINE IS LOCATED DIRECTLY ABOVE THE DISTRIBUTOR AND THEY REFUSE TO MOVE IT. IT HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY APPARENT THEIR REPAIR IS NOT A FIX BUT A TEMPORARY SOLUTION TO GET YOU OUT OF WARRANTY. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL SENT TO ME BUT DOES NOT SHOW IN YOUR LISTINGS FOR THE SUBJECT VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS, YOUR VEHICLE USUALLY GIVES NO SIGNS BEFORE LEAVING YOU STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS SITE AND THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN OCT 2014. I WAS GOING AROUND A CURVE WITH 40 MPH SPEED LIMIT AND I WAS GOING 40 MPH. I STARTED TO BRAKE AS THIS WAS DOWNHILL AND A VERY LARGE TRUCK AND I DID NOT WISH TO INCREASE SPEED AS I FOLLOWED THE CURVE. MY BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND SANK TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE. I HAD NO STEERING ABILITY EITHER. I ENDED UP IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH A VERY LARGE TREE AND THE AIRBAGS FAILED. I SPLIT MY HEAD OPEN ON THE STEERING WHEEL DESPITE BLOCKING MY FACE WITH MY FOREARMS CROSSED; A DE-GLOVING 10-12 INCH LACERATION DOWN TO THE SKULL THAT WRAPS FROM MY NOSE BRIDGE AROUND TO MY RIGHT EAR IN THE CIRCULAR SHAPE OF THE STEERING WHEEL. MY RIGHT LEG WAS PINNED INTO THE CENTER DASH AREA AS THE ENGINE BLOCK AND STEERING COLUMN WERE SHOVED INTO THE CAB. I HAD TO BE REMOVED FROM MY VEHICLE WITH THE JAWS OF LIFE BY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAMS. I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. MY QUADRASTEER WAS DECLARED TOTALED BY USAA INSURANCE AND DESTROYED WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE. I CALLED USAA 3 DAYS AFTER THE CRASH AFTER FINDING SO MANY BRAKE FAILURES ON THIS VEHICLE/YEAR MODEL AND WAS TOLD IT WAS ALREADY DESTROYED, SO DOING AN INVESTIGATION WAS NOT POSSIBLE. I HAVE LIVED IN PAIN AND ALSO PARALYZING FEAR OF DRIVING SINCE THEN; 3 YEARS. I FIRST NOTICED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WERE ACTIVATING AT SLOW SPEEDS ( 5-10 MPH ) UNDER DRY ROAD CONDITIONS. THIS WAS PRIOR TO BRAKE LINE INCIDENT ON 4-14-2012 BUT I AM NOT SURE OF EXACT DATE. I RESEARCHED THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND FOUND NHTSA ID CAMPAIGN #05V379000 ACTION # PE05020 BUT THIS DID NOT INCLUDE MY HOME STATE OF KENTUCKY. HOWEVER, I HAVE BEEN WORKING IN OHIO SINCE THE PURCHASE OF SAID VEHICLE 10-17-2001 TO CURRENT DATE 2-11-2013. ON 4-14-2012 I WAS PREPARING TO TAKE MY BOAT TO FUEL IT . WHILE CHECKING THE TRAILER LIGHTS I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE TO THE REAR WHEELS HAD BURST IN HALF AND WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION I FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES SHOWED SIGNS OF SEVERE CORROISION. ON 2-8-2013 I DISCOVERED THAT DIESEL FUEL WAS LEAKING NEAR THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL COOLER. VEHICLE IS A 2002 GMC HD 2500 PICKUP TRUCK WITH A DURAMAX DIESEL ENGINE, AND 5 SPEED ALLISON TRANSMISSION WHILE DRIVING ON SURFACE STREETS, THE POWER BRAKES AND STEERING BOTH WENT OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY. STOPPING REQUIRED BOTH FEET ON PEDAL, AND STEERING WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. PROBLEM TRACED TO THE "HYDROBOOST" AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP. BOTH WERE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE HOSE. I WAS DRIVING MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD ON I95 WHEN TRAFFIC CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AT WHICH POINT THE ABS SYSTEM STARTED PULSING THE BRAKES, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO FURTHER BRAKE RESPONSE. THANKFULLY, THE BRAKES SLOWED THE TRUCK ENOUGH PRIOR TO FAILURE TO PREVENT A COLLISION AT 65 MPH. I PURCHASED A 2002 GMC SIERRA DENALI IN SEPT 2002 NEW FROM A LOCAL DEALER. I AM THE PRIMARY DRIVER AND DO NOT ABUSE THE VEHICLE. I KEEP ALL THE SERVICE WORK UP ON IT THRU THE SELLING DEALER. THE PROBLEM THAT I HAVE IS THAT THE QUDARSTEER CONTROL MODULE WENT OUT AND I CALLED GM FOR A SERVICE REQUEST. GM SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME WITH THE SELLING DEALER TO CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED OUT MY TRUCK AND TOLD ME THAT THE QUDRASTEER MODULE WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACED. THEY GOT ON THEIRE COMPUTER AND TRIED TO LOCATE A STEERING MODULE. BELIVE IT OR NOT THERE ISN'T ONE IN THE UNITED STATES. GM DOSEN'T MAKE THEM ANYMORE THEY HAVE BEEN DISCONTUINED. GM PRODUCED THIS TRUCK UNTILL 2005, I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY HAD TO SUPPLY PARTS FOR VEHICLES THAT THEY MADE FOR AT LEAST 10 YR'S I AM NOW STUCK WITH A TRUCK WITH 50,285 MILES ON IT AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER NOT TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT WOULD WEAR UOT MY TIRES. THE DEALERSHIP DISABLED THE QUDRASTEER BUT WHEN I DRIVE IT I HAVE TO KEEP THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED TO THE RT ABOUT A QUARTER TURN. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED ON THREE OCCASIONS. ALL INCIDENTS OCCURRED DURING ACCELERATION WHILE TRAVELING 25 TO 35 MPH. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENTS AND THE VEHICLE HAD NO PROBLEMS RESTARTING. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK UPDATED 11/16/2006 - THERE WERE SUBSEQUENT PROBLEM RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, AND AS MANY AS 3 TO 5 STALLING EPISODES PER WEEK. NOT ALL INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING. SOME INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE AT IDLE, AND AT A STOP. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND REPLACED IT. RECENTLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY TRANSMISSION SELECTOR POSITION SENSOR AND REPLACED IT. THE ABS ACTIVATED WHILE DRIVING ON DRY PAVEMENT. THE 2002 WAS IN NEED OF FRONT HUBS SINCE THEY WERE NOT REPLACED WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT THE TIME THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL WAS REBUILT. THIS CAUSED THE TRUCK TO HAVE EXCESSIVE FRONT WHEEL FRICTION, AND COMPROMISED THE BRAKING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TRUCK. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE, ESPECIALLY IN SNOW, AND THE FRONT WHEEL FRICTION WOULD VARY BASED ON CHANGES IN SPEED, ROAD CONTOUR, TEMPERATURE, STEERING INPUT, THROTTLE INPUT, AND BRAKE INPUT. WHILE BRAKING THE TRUCK WOULD OFTEN PITCH SEVERELY TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER, THE ABS WOULD ACTIVATE ON DRY PAVEMENT. ON ONE OCCASION THE ABS ACTIVATED WHEN MY FOOT WAS OFF THE BRAKE. THE TRUCK WOULD ALSO SWAY FROM SIDE TO SIDE AT HIGHWAY SPEED AS THE FRICTION VARIED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS RETURNED TO ME ONCE FROM CULLIGAN GMC, THE POWER STEERING EFFORT HAD INCREASED GREATLY. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE REAR LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL HAD BEEN CHANGED. THE TRUCK WAS BACK TO THE DEALER, DAVID CADILLAC, MANY TIMES FOR THE SAME CONCERN WITH THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. ON ONE OCCASION THE TRUCK WAS RETURNED TO ME GUSHING GEAR LUBE FROM THE FRONT AXLE, ON ANOTHER IT WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL EMPTY. I WAS CHARGED FOR A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT WHEN ONLY 2 WHEELS CAN BE ALIGNED ON THIS TRUCK. THE WRONG OIL FILTER WAS INSTALLED, THE TRUCK WAS DRIVEN ABUSIVELY BY A DEALER EMPLOYEE (IT WAS RUN BEYOND MECHANICAL LIMITS WHILE COLD AS I STOOD IN THE PARKING LOT), AND WHEN I CALLED THE SERVICE ADVISER AFTER THE TRUCK HAD BEEN IN HIS SHOP FOR OVER A WEEK WITHOUT MY HEARING WHAT IT'S STATUS WAS, THE SERVICE PERSON SCREAMED AT ME ON THE PHONE "WHEN IT IS FINISHED I WILL CALL YOU!!!", AND HE SLAMMED THE PHONE DOWN. *NM

DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE POSITIVE TERMINALS ON THE BATTERIES THAT ARE MADE BY AC DELCO, THESE TERMINALS CORRODED FROM THE INSIDE, CAUSING THEM TO FALL OFF. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED ON OCTOBER 10, 2005. THE BATTERY HAD BEEN IN THE VEHICLE EVER SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS THE MANUFACTURER OF THE BATTERY NEITHER OF THEM WANTED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT WENT TO HAVE THE BATTERY REPLACED, AND THE MECHANIC TOLD HIM THAT HE HAD TWELVE MORE OF THE SAME BATTERIES SI WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *AK

I HAVE CARLISLE SURE TRAIL ST TIRES, SIZE ST 205/75D15, ON MY 2003 BIG TEX 60CH TRAILER. THE RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEWOUT FOR NO APPARENT REASON AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AND A LIGHT LOAD ON THE TRAILER. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE TIRES THAT WERE INSTALLE ON THIS TRAILER AT TIME OF PURCHASE, I HAVE REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES, DUE TO THE ONE BLOWOUT, AND VERY SEVERE CROWNING IN THE CENTER OF THE TREAD AT THE PROPER COLD INFLATION PRESSURE OF 35PSI, THIS CROWNING OF THE TREAD ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE AN OVER-INFLATED TIRE, WHEN IN FACT IT IS PROBEBLY A SEPARATION INSIDE THE TIRE. GMC SERRIA 2002. OUR TRUCK HAS RUST ON THE BUMPER BEHIND THE PAINTED COVER. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THIS IS NORMAL AND POLISHED IT, WITHIN ONE WEEK THE BUMPER SHOWED RUST AGAIN. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR IS NOT LINED UP CORRECTLY, THE DEALER TRIED TO ADJUST IT, THE RESULT IS THE DOOR MUST BE SLAMMED TO CLOSE IT. THE MOTOR MAKES KNOCKING SOUNDS AT THE START AS IF IT HAS NO OIL. THE OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED EVERY THREE THOUSAND MILES. THE KNOCK STARTED AFTER THE TRUCK TURNED FOUR THOUSAND MILES. THE DEALER TOLD US THAT GM REPORTS THE KNOCK IS NORMAL. IT IS THE FIRST TIME I''VE HEARD OF A GAS MOTOR HAVING AN INTENTIONAL KNOCK. WE HAVE HAD THE TRUCK THIS SINCE IT WAS NEW AND HAVE HAD THE DEALER DO ALL THE REGULAR MAINTENANCE INCLUDING TIRE ROTATIONS AND OIL CHANGES.
