The contact owns a 2002 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the contact started to slow for traffic and depressed the brake, and felt no braking. The contact had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard. The contact stated that the brake warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to safely stop and drove the vehicle to his residence. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who diagnosed that there was a fractured parking brake spring. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 189,000.

THE CONTACT STATED HE WAS FORCED TO DRIVE AT A HIGHER SPEED IN ORDER TO AVOID THIS ISSUE. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE DEALER, CABLE DAHMER BUICK GMC OF KANSAS CITY ADDRESS: 907 W 104TH ST, KANSAS CITY, MO 64114) HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE AND OFFERED LITTLE ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000. THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND FRACTURED DUE TO DEFECTIVE METAL. WHILE STOPPING FOR THE STOP SIGN DOWN THE BLOCK FROM MY HOUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I COULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK, I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK HOME AND FOUND OUT THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING THE BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK OUT.

BRAKES FAILED DUE TO CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINE. BRAKING WAS NOT EXISTENT AS THE PEDAL TRAVELS TO THE FLOOR. THANK GOD FOR NOT BEING IN A BUSY STREET AND BEING ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP. THIS IS A HEAVY VEHICLE AND WITHOUT BRAKING ABILITY IT COULD EASILY KILL PEOPLE. AFTER ADDING SOME BRAKE FLUID (MOST OF WHICH LEAKED THROUGH THE BROKEN LINE) THERE'S NOT EVEN A WARNING LIGHT ON TO ALERT OF A BRAKING PROBLEM DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. THE OTHER IMPORTANT POINT TO NOTE IS THAT THE FAILURE IN THE LINE APPEARS TO HAVE HAPPENED IN A PART OF THE LINE THAT APPEARS TO BE INSIDE THE CAR FRAME WHICH MAKES IT THE MOST PROTECTED LINE FROM THE OUTSIDE ELEMENTS. IF THAT'S THE FIRST LINE TO FAIL, IT WOULD SUGGEST SUB STANDARD MATERIALS BEING USED IN MANUFACTURING THESE LINES. *TR

I STARTED VEHICLE, DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, I THEN PLACED THE SHIFTER INTO REVERSE AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE WHEN I REALIZED THE VEHICLE WASN'T STOPPING AS USUAL. I THEN PUT THE SHIFTER INTO DRIVE AND PARKED IT . I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED ALOT OF FLUID (ON THE DRIVERS SIDE) ALL OVER THE GROUND. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO HAVE IT MOVED TO A MECHANICS LOCATION FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. I PURCHASED A 2002 GMC YUKON XL 2 DAYS AGO, SOLD "AS IS" WITH NO WARRANTY. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SPEEDOMETER ARE THE LIGHTS THAT INDICATE THE POSITION OF THE SHIFTER (PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, OVERDRIVE, AND GEARS 3,2 AND 1) AND ALSO THE ODOMETER READING. THESE INDICATOR LIGHTS WORKED FINE DURING THE TEST DRIVE BUT BECAME INTERMITTENT ON THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SINCE THEN. YOU LOSE ALL INDICATION OF WHAT GEAR YOU ARE IN AND OF THE ODOMETER READING. THIS PROBLEM COULD LEAD TO A DRIVER SHIFTING GEARS IMPROPERLY AND UNSAFELY, SUCH AS SHIFTING INTO A FORWARD GEAR IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE REVERSE GEAR IS INTENDED OR SHIFTING INTO REVERSE WHILE DRIVING AND SEEKING OVERDRIVE AFTER BEING IN A LOWER GEAR. I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD BY A FEW DEALERS THAT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILURES ARE SOMEWHAT COMMON IN YUKON XLS AND ARE COSTING AN AVERAGE OF ABOUT $700 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WHEN ONLY A SINGLE GAUGE IS HAVING AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. SINCE THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE COMMON AND CAN EFFECT SAFETY, AS IN THE EXAMPLES I GAVE ABOVE, PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM AND SEE IF A RECALL/MANUFACTURER FIX IS WARRANTED. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT CRACK IN THE SIDEWALL OF ALL FOUR TIRES THAT FORMED AROUND THE TREAD OF THE TIRE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE TIRES PERTAINING TO THE SPECIFIC TYPE OF FAILURE. THE VIN WAS REJECTED FROM THE SYSTEM. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE TIRE MILEAGES WERE UNDER 25,000. THE CURRENT VEHICLE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.

WAS DRIVING APPROX 60MPH ON NEWLY PAVED 4 LANE HIGHWAY (US 31). VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE A NOISE AND THEN SHAKE. FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED WITH APPROX 80% OF THE TREAD AND BELT SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AND NUMEROUS HOLES IN THE TIRE. MANY SHARP STEEL PRONG ENDS WERE STICKING OUT OF THE TIRE AND THE SEPARATED TREAD/BELT. DESTROYED THE WHEEL WELL COVERING. 2002 YUKON XL. TIRES HAD BEEN INSTALLED IN MARCH 2008. WHEN LOOKING AT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE, IT HAD NUMEROUS LARGE CRACKS FROM THE TREAD EXTENDING INTO THE SIDEWALL. TO AVOID HAVING ANOTHER BLOWOUT/SEPARATION, QUICKLY REPLACED THAT TIRE AND RETURNED BOTH TO THE DEALER WHERE PURCHASED. ON 2/24/2008 I TRIED TO MOVE THE AUTOMATIC GEAR SELECT LEVER ON MY 2002 GMC YUKON XL TO THE PARK POSITION. THE GEAR SELECT LEVER WOULD NOT MOVE INTO THE PARK POSITION. AS A RESULT, I COULD NOT REMOVE THE KEYS OR STOP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING WHILE SITTING IN MY GARAGE. I COULD PLACE IT IN ANY GEAR EXCEPT PARK. AFTER LOOKING AROUND THE BASE OF THE SHIFT LEVER, I NOTICED A PART OF A BROKEN SPRING STUCK IN THE PIVOT POINT OF THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER. I REMOVED THE BROKEN SPRING PARTS AND THE SHIFT LEVER WILL NOW MOVE TO PARK. AS A RESULT OF THE RETURN SPRING BEING BROKEN THE LEVER NOW MOVES FREELY AND WE HAVE TO MANUALLY MOVE IT TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE TO STOP THE ENGINE AND REMOVE THE KEYS. WITH THE VEHICLE RUNNING, AND THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER MOVED TOWARDS THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE ALL THE INDICATOR LIGHTS FOR THE TRANSMISSION TURN OFF, AT THIS POINT IT IS UNKNOWN WHAT GEAR THE VEHICLE IS IN. I CALLED MY LOCAL CHEVORLET DEALER ON 2/25/08 AND THEY SAID THIS IS MY PROBLEM AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO EVEN GET DIAGNOSIS OR ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR. MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS AND MAY NEED TO REPLACE ROTORS AND PADS DEPENDING ON SEVERITY. IN MAY 2005 MY VEHICLE FAILED STATE INSPECTION DUE TO PARKING BRAKE COULD NOT HOLD VEHICLE. I THEN HAD THE PLACE WHERE THE INSPECTION WAS DONE REPAIR THE VEHICLE. IN APRIL OF 2006 I NOTICED MY BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING WHEN I WAS IN REVERSE. I TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THE BACK PADS THAT WERE REPLACED LAST YEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. WHILE MAKING A TIGHT LEFT TURN, THE POWER STEERING FAILED COMPLETELY. THE YUKON ONLY HAD 72000 MILES ON IT. WHEN I HAD IT REPAIRED AT THE DEALER, GMC DENIED WARRANTY SERVICE DUE TO MILEAGE. I COMPLAINED THAT A POWER STEERING PUMP SHOULD NEVER FAIL IN SUCH A CATASTROPHIC WAY. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT THE NEW POWER STEERING PUMP WAS OF A DIFFERENT DESIGN SO WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ANOTHER FAILURE. HE SAID IT WAS NOT UNCOMMON FOR THIS FAILURE TO HAPPEN. ON 07/14/03 AT 22602 MILES, WE TOOK OUR 2002 YUKON XL (REGENCY EDITION) TO SUSS PONTIAC IN DENVER, COLORADO, TO INVESTIGATE A CLUNKING/KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE SUSPENSION WHEN TURNING WHICH CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO VIBRATE. ON OCCASION, THE STEERING WHEEL HAD EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE WHEEL AND WOULD HESITATE WHEN TURNING. SUSS PONTIAC VERIFIED THE COMPLAINT AND FOUND THE "INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT" DRY AND CLUNKING. THE SHAFT WAS THEN LUBED AS PER BULLETIN #II-00-02-35-003B AND WE WERE TOLD AT THE TIME THAT THE PROBLEM SHOULD NOT REOCCUR. THE PROBLEM RECURRED DURING THE FALL OF 2005 WHILE VACATIONING IN TEXAS. AFTER DISCUSSING THE INCIDENT OVER THE PHONE WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN, MORE OF AN IRRITATION TO THOSE INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND WE SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM GETTING HOME. WE MADE IT BACK TO DENVER WITHOUT INCIDENT, BUT VERY ANNOYING. ON 10/25/05, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP (LEN LYALL OF AURORA, CO) ONLY TO LEARN THAT A NEW BULLETIN (# UNKWN) HAD BEEN ISSUED REQUIRING THAT THE "INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT" BE REPLACED. LEN LYALL THEN PULLED A VEHICLE SERVICE INQUIRY LISTING ALL SERVICES PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, IT WAS NOTED IN THE SUMMARY THAT THE SHAFT HAD BEEN REPLACED, BUT MY COPY OF THE INVOICE REFERRED TO THE SHAFT BEING LUBED. I AM NOW TROUBLED BY THE FACT THAT GMC FOUND IT NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE SHAFT AND STILL TELLING ME THAT IT IS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN. I AM WRITING TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT MY RECURRING ISSUES WITH MY STEERING COLUMN IN MY 2002 YUKON XL. IN SHORT, IT RATTLES. ON THE ROAD, IT RATTLES AT A LOW THUD, THUD, THUD SOUND. TURNING CORNERS, IT RATTLES WITH THE SAME SOUND. INITIALLY, WHEN I TOOK IT TO BERGLUND CHEVROLET, IN ROANOKE, VA, THEY ATTEMPTED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM WITH A LUBE KIT. WHEN THE PROBLEM SURFACED AGAIN, I BROUGHT IT BACK AND THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED. 20,000 MILES LATER, I FACE THE PROBLEM FOR THE 3RD TIME. I DRIVE ON THE ROAD, NEVER OFF ROAD. I HAVE OWNED A NUMBER OF VEHICLES, AND ALWAYS HOLD ON TO THEM UNTIL THEY EXCEED 150,000 MILES. NEVER HAVE I HAD TO REPLACE ONE STEERING COLUMN, IN ANY VEHICLE, AND I OBVIOUSLY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A VEHICLE REQUIRING MORE THAN ONE. I HAVE LEARNED FROM GMC THAT THERE WAS A FIRST GENERATION FIX AND A SECOND-GENERATION FIX. I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHICH GENERATION I GOT, BUT I DO KNOW IT WAS NOT A FIX. AFTER SOME ARGUING, THE FIRST REPAIR WAS COVERED. THE SECOND WAS COVERED, AS WELL, BUT ONLY AFTER ARGUING ONCE MORE. IT SEEMS PERFECTLY CLEAR TO ME THAT THIS SHOULD BE REPAIRED AGAIN, AT NO COST TO ME, BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A SATISFACTORY REMEDY TO THIS PROBLEM '' A PROBLEM ACKNOWLEDGED BY GMC AS NEEDING TO BE REMEDIED. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT MY VEHICLE HAS NOT GOT THE STEERING COLUMN SOLUTION THAT WORKS. I HAVE SAFETY CONCERNS. NO ONE SHOULD EXPECT TO REPLACE A STEERING COLUMN ON A VEHICLE EVERY 20,000 MILES. IT IS NOT A FILTER OR FLUID THAT NEEDS CHANGING AT INTERVALS, AND I REFUSE TO HAVE THIS TREATED AS IF IT WERE REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF A UNIT THAT WEARS OUT SO QUICKLY, AND AM VERY DISTURBED BY THE COMPLACENCY OF GMC ABOUT SUBJECTING ME TO CONTINUOUS REPAIRS, AND APPARENTLY HIDING BEHIND POLICIES RATHER THAN DOING THE RIGHT THING WITH A CUSTOMER. *NM

2002 GMC YUKON XL FUEL PUMP FAILURE. ECMB FUSE WAS BLOWN WHICH RUNS THE FUEL PUMP. FUEL PRESSURE WAS FOUND AT 24 PSI. THIS ENGINE REQUIRES 55-62 PSI. CURRENT DRAW ON THE PUMP IS AT 9 AMPS. THIS IS WAY TOO HIGH. TRUCK WAS STARTED AFTER REPLACING FUSE, BUT RUNS BADLY AND STALLS OUT. TRUCK IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP FILLED OUT WRONG PAPERWORK AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. THE CONTRACT WAS DENIED BECAUSE OF THIS ERROR. COST FOR REPLACING FUEL PUMP IS $950.00. TRUCK IS STILL NOT FIXED. JB

ON 8-26-07 WHILE DRIVING HOME THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. CHECKED VEHICLE MANUAL. AFTER TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE WE COULD HEAR WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A MOTOR OR FAN NOISE RUNNING. THINKING IT WAS PROBABLY THE AC FAN WE WENT IN THE HOUSE FOR THE EVENING. THE NEXT MORNING WE COULD STILL HEAR THE NOISE AND FOUND OUT MY BATTERY WAS DEAD. JUMP STARTED VEHICLE AND TOOK IT IN TO MECHANIC TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC SEARCH AND WAS TOLD WE NEEDED TO REPLACE ABS CONTROL MODULE. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET FOUND OUT THERE HAD BEEN SEVERAL RECALLS FOR THIS, BUT NOT WITH MY VIN #. HAVE CALLED GM CORP TO REPORT THIS AND AM CURRENTLY WAITING TO HEAR BACK.

I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2002 YUKON XL TRUCK. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK TWO YEARS AGO FROM A GMC DEALER IN MACON GA. I NOTICED THE STEERING COLUMN FELT LOOSE AND MADE UNUSUAL NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AND WHEN TURNING. I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO A LOCAL DEALER UNDER A WARRANTY CALL. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPAIRED/ADJUSTED THE STEERING SYSTEM AND THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE FOR APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS. HOWEVER THE SAME NOISE CAME BACK AND THE TRUCKS ANTI LOCK BRAKE LIGHT AND TRACTION ASSISTANCE LIGHTS CAME ON. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE IT LOOKED. THE SHOPS OWNER DISCOVERED ONE OF THE FRONT HUB ASSEMBLIES HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE OWNER TOLD ME THE HUBS BEARINGS HAD COMPLETELY FAILED AND THERE WAS A STRONG POSSIBILITY THE WHEEL COULD HAVE SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. I NOTICED SOME FLUID UNDER THE MIDDLE OF VEHICLE AND THOUGHT IT WAS WATER BUT AS I WAS HEADING TO CHURCH SUNDAY NIGHT MY BRAKE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, WAS VERY DISTURBING AND SCARY TO ME BUT WAS ABLE TO STOP AND GET HOME SAFELY. NEXT DAY IN THE DAYLIGHT I CHECK OUT MY FLUID AND THE BRAKE FLUID BOX WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY! TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND LEAKING PER SAY $1500 JOB TO FIX. ALSO, INFORMED THAT I NEEDED A NEW WATER PUMP TOO. I JUST REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP 2 WEEKS BEFORE THIS OCCURRED. GMC NEEDS TO MAKE THIS A RECALL IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TT

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER EIGHT ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS FAULTY. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THE 2001 GMC YUKON MODEL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,700.

WE PURCHASED THE 2002 YUKON FROM MCGUIRE DEALERSHIP IN NJ ITS BEEN CARED FOR TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FAITHFULLY DRIVEN BY MY 50 YEAR OLD FATHER, WHEN FIRST DRIVING HE NOTICED THE PEDAL VIBRATING RAPIDLY DURING NORMAL BRAKE APPLICATIONS. THE ABS CONTROL VALVE WAS THE CULPRIT ALONG WITH A RUSTY WHEEL SENSOR. IT WAS REPLACED AT THE DEALER AND AFTER 5 YEARS THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK IS RUSTING AND ROTTING ALONG WITH SUSPENSION PARTS AND MOST OF ALL THE BRAKES. WE CAME CLOSE TO CRASHING ONE DAY WHEN THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR, WE TAKE IT TO THE LOCAL FIRESTONE AND THEY TELL US ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED OUT ALONG WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER. WE REPLACED THE LINES AND MASTER CYLINDER WITH A HEFTY PRICE TAG. WE GET THE CAR BACK 3 DAYS LATER PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AGAIN, BACK AT THE MECHANIC BOTH REAR CALIPERS ARE RUSTED AND LEAKING. WE REPLACED ALL 4 CALIPERS AND THE PROBLEM STOPPED BUT NOW THE FRAME IS RUSTING AND THE ABS IS STILL VIBRATING BADLY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN UNTIL THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED REPEATEDLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PRIOR TO THE FAILURE WHILE SHIFTING FROM PARK INTO REVERSE, THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD UPON ENGAGEMENT. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENTIRE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.

THIS INVOLVES THE EMERGENCY BRAKE THAT WILL NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE WHEN APPLIED. I HAD NOTICED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DID NOT DO A VERY GOOD JOB HOLDING THE VEHICLE WHEN APPLIED FROM THE TIME IT WAS NEW BUT HAD NOT GIVEN IT MUCH THOUGHT SINCE I NEVER USED IT. SEVERAL YEARS LATER I TRIED TO GET IT INSPECTED AND IT FAILED. I FOUND THAT THE REAR EMERGENCY BRAKE THAT II NEVER USE WERE HAD WORN OUT SHOES AND HAD DAMAGED THE DRUM. I REPLACED THE SHOES AND ONE DRUM AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE BRAKES TO HOLD WHEN THE BRAKE WERE APPLIED. THE BRAKE HAS BEEN APPLIED PROPERLY SENSE THEN BUT STARTED TO DO THE SAME THING AGAIN BY NOT HOLDING THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO REPLACE THE SHOES AGAIN AT 172,000 MILES. MY 2002 GMC YUKON HAS THE PROBLEM THAT WHEN STOPPING AT SLOW SPEEDS THE ABS BRAKES ACTIVATE CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME WAS JUST BEFORE THE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM IN 2005, THE SECOND TIME WAS IN THE SUMMER OF 2007 WHEN IT WAS FIXED UNDER THE RECALL, AND JUST RECENTLY WHEN I HAD TO AGAIN PAY FOR THE REPAIR. EACH TIME IT WAS REPAIRED BY REMOVING AND CLEANING OR REPLACING THE SENSORS. THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL NEARLY FELL OFF OUR 2002 YUKON 1500 SLT. WE HAD JUST STOPPED TO PAY A TOLL ON THE MAINE TURNPIKE. AS WE DROVE OUT OF THE TOLL BOOTH, MY HUSBAND HAD DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE. A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE CAME FROM THE LEFT FRONT END OF OUR CAR. THE ABS LIGHT FLASHED ON. GRIPPING THE WOBBLY STEERING WHEEL, MY HUSBAND GUIDED THE VEHICLE ACROSS SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC INTO THE NARROW BREAKDOWN LANE. THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY OFF THE VEHICLE. CARS AND TRUCKS WHIZZED BY DANGEROUSLY CLOSE AS MY HUSBAND TRIED TO REPOSITION THE WHEEL AND TIGHTEN THE BOLTS THAT HAD LOOSENED. TWO HUNDRED MILES FROM HOME, AND A FEW MILES FROM OUR DESTINATION, WE HOBBLED ON. MY HUSBAND STOPPED REPEATEDLY TO RETIGHTEN THE BOLTS. WE GOT OFF THE TURNPIKE AND INCHED ALONG SLOWLY ON BACK ROADS. STILL, THIS FINAL LEG OF OUR JOURNEY WAS TREACHEROUS. STEERING WAS ALL BUT IMPOSSIBLE. WE NEARLY WENT OFF THE ROAD. WHEN FINALLY SAFELY STOPPED, THE TIRE AND METAL WHEEL PARTS WERE SO HOT, THEY HAD TO BE HOSED DOWN. SMOKE CAME FROM THE WHEEL. THE METAL WAS SCORCHED. THE CALIPER HOLDING THE WHEEL WAS SEVERELY BENT, THE BRAKES DESTROYED, AND THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL SCORED AND CHARRED. PARTS HAD DISINTEGRATED. THE BEARINGS WERE GONE. IT IS INCREDIBLE WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE EVEN 10 MILES. IF I HAD BEEN BEHIND THE WHEEL, INSTEAD OF MY HUSBAND, I WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR. IF THE PROBLEM HAD MANIFESTED ITSELF AS WE HURTLED DOWN THE HIGHWAY INSTEAD OF EXITING A TOLL BOOTH, THE WHEEL SURELY WOULD HAVE FLOWN OFF THE CAR INTO TRAFFIC. I SHUDDER TO THINK OF THE CONSEQUENCES. OUR TWO YOUNG SONS WERE IN THE BACK SEAT. WE WERE VERY LUCKY, BUT ARE NOW MINUS A VEHICLE WE NEED. IT SITS WHERE WE LEFT IT, 200 MILES AWAY. WE NEED TO BRING IT HOME, BUT THE TOW CHARGE WILL BE PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE, NOT TO MENTION THE REPAIRS. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE: 2002 YUKON 73,000 MILES. NO PREVIOUS EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE PROBLEM. FAILURE/CONSEQUENCES: 2002 YUKON: I STARTED MY CAR AND ABS LIGHT STAYED ON. WHILE DRIVING, I COULD FEEL AN ABNORMAL VIBRATION THROUGHOUT MY CAR. (WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN, WE PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ON THE RIGHT OF WAY. I CUT OFF MY CAR (REMOVED KEY OUT OF IGNITION) AND THE CAR SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS STILL ON. CORRECT THE PROBLEM: I CALLED MY GMC DEALER IN AUSTIN TEXAS WHERE I HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT HE HAS SEEN MANY INCIDENTS SUCH AS THIS. HE INDICATED THAT IF I LEFT THE ABS MOTOR RUNNING, THAT MY BATTERY WOULD DIE AND/OR THE MOTOR WOULD RUIN. SO, HE INSTRUCTED ME TO RAISE THE HOOD AND REMOVE THE 60AMP ABS FUSE. BY DOING SO, THE VIBRATION/MOTOR STOPPED. HE SAID TO BRING IT INTO THE GARAGE FOR SERVICE. HIS INITIAL GUESS WAS THAT IT WAS THE ABS MODULE OR EBCM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER IN WARRANTY, HE ESTIMATED THAT IT COULD COST ANYWHERE BETWEEN $1100.00-1900.00 DOLLARS. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE MANY 1999-2004 GM SUVS AND TRUCKS WHICH HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. I AM REQUESTING THAT A RECALL BE PLACED FOR THESE MODULES. *TR

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED IN NOVEMBER WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE SERVICE, THE DEALERSHIP NOTICED THE REAR ROTORS WERE HITTING THE INSIDE OF THE BACKING PLATES INSIDE THE HUB. ALSO, THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED. THE FRONT END WAS ALSO OBSERVED TO BE SHAKING. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE SHAKING WAS NORMAL 4X4 CHARACTERISTICS; HOWEVER THE DEALERSHIP INSTALLED A LUBE KIT THAT GOES ON THE STEERING COLUMN UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE SHAKING RETURNED AND THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONTACT THE LUBE KIT WAS NO LONGER A REMEDY FOR THIS SHAKING PROBLEM. THERE WAS NOT ANOTHER REMEDY OFFERED.

WE ARE NOW REPLACING THE BUSHING IN THE STEERING COLUMN FOR THE SECOND TIME WITH LESS THAN 42,000 MILES. THIS COMPONENT WAS REPLACED ORIGINALLY AT 28,000 MILES AND HAS FAILED AGAIN. WITH THIS FAILURE HAS CAUSED LEFT WHEEL BEARING TO GO OUT. AT 58,000 MILE THE RIGHT WHEEL BEARING IS NOW IN NEED OF REPAIR, SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, NONE OF THIS IS COVERED AFTER 36,000 MILES. ALSO, THE REAR AIR WILL EITHER BLOW COLD UNTIL THE THERMASTAT IS CHANGE TO THE RED SETTING COMPLETELY. ELECTRICAL FAILURE OF THE LOAD LEVELING DEVICE. FUSES CONSISTANTLY FAIL WHEN COMPRESSER ACTIVATES WHEN LOAD IS IN OR ON VEHICLE. THIS OCCURS WITH OR WITHOUT A TRAILER HOOKED UP. KNOCKING NOICE IS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND IS FELT AS A "CLUNK" THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME IN 6 MONTHS THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED. THE FIRST TIME WAS WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 30000 MILES ON IT AND IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND FIXED UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 45000 MILES ON IT AND THE PROBLEM IS HAPPENING AGAIN.*AK

FUEL TANK/FILLER ASSEMBLY CAUSES VAPORS TO BACKUP INTO GAS PUMPS EQUIPPED WITH VAPOR RECLAMATION SYSTEMS. THIS CAUSES A GAS PUMP SO EQUIPPED TO SHUTOFF PREMATURILY WHEN REFILLING THE VEHICLES FUEL TANKS FROM ANY PERCENTAGE OF CAPICITY. THERE FOR, FILLING THE TANK BECOMES ESPECIALLY TIME CONSUMING, FRUSTURATING AND POTENTIALLY HAZARDEOUS AS ONE IS CONSTANTLY TRYING TO OVERRIDE THE SYSTEMS AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF INORDER TO PUT ANY REASONABLE QUANTITY OF GALLONS INTO THE VEHICLES FUEL TANK. IT BECOMES DIFFICULT TO KNOW WHETHER THE GAS PUMPS AUTO SHUTOFF IS BEING TRIGGERED BY FUEL BACKUP DUE TO TANK DESIGN PROBLEMS OR THE TANK ACTUALLY STARTING TO OVERFILL. THIS ISSUE PRIMARELY OCCURS WITH THE 38.5 GALLON FUEL TANK.*AK
