MY HONDA DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG FOR MORE THAN 150 DAYS FROM 13 APRIL 2020, WHEN I FIRST ASKED FOR A REPAIR APPOINTMENT. HE SAYS THE "PART IS STILL UNAVAILABLE." HANDA SENT ME NHTSA RECALL 20V-027 IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN MARCH 2020, INFORMING ME THAT THE DRIVER FRONT AIRBAG MODULE IS DEFECTIVE. IN THE NOTICE, HONDA ASKED FOR "PATIENCE" WHILE THEY PREPARED THE REPLACEMENT PART. BUT IT HAS BEEN MORE THAN 150 DAYS SINCE I ASKED FOR AN APPOINTMENT AND MORE THAN 180 DAYS SINCE I RECEIVED THE NOTICE. HALF A YEAR IS TOO LONG TO LEAVE ME DRIVING AROUND IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. PLEASE URGE HONDA TO GET GOING ON MAKING THE REPLACEMENT PART! THANK YOU.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE EXHAUST VALVES WERE OUT OF ADJUSTMENT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 147,000.

WE FOUND WHAT WE THOUGHT WOULD BE THE PERFECT VEHICLE FOR HER A 2000 HONDA CRV WITH ONLY 37,500 MILES ON IT. AFTER LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE WE DECIDED TO PURCHASE IT DUE TO ITS GREAT CONDITION AND LACK OF USE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON WHEN WE LOOKED AT IT. BUT THE PEOPLE WE DEALT WITH LOCALLY STATED IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO LACK OF DRIVING AND WOULD NEED ONLY A TUNE UP. WE PICKED THE VEHICLE UP ON FRIDAY 8-20. I TUNED UP THE CRV WITH NEW PLATINUM PLUGS, NEW ROTOR, DISTRIBUTOR CAP, AND PLUG WIRES. THE TRUCK RAN A LITTLE BETTER BUT STILL HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I DECIDED TO BRING IT TO A HONDA DEALER AND HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT FIRST THING MONDAY 8-23. THEY STATED IT MAY BE A VALVE ADJUSTMENT. THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT CALLED ME AND STATED THAT THE PROBLEMS WERE MUCH LARGER. A ROCKER ARM HAD BROKEN OFF AND WAS FLOATING IN THE ENGINE AND HAD DONE DAMAGE TO VALVES ETC. THE CRV WOULD NEED A TOP END REBUILD WITH HEAD ETC AT A COST OF $4400. WE PAID ONLY $4500 FOR THE VEHICLE. *TR

OCTOBER 2005 - LOW COMPRESSION, BURNED VALVES. HEAD MACHINED, VALVES REPLACED. ONLY 82,000 MILES. COMPLAINED TO HONDA AND THEY REIMBURSED ME FOR THE PARTS & LABOR, ALMOST $1,500. FAST FORWARD TO FEBRUARY 2008. SAME FAILURE, SAME VALVES, 162,000 MILES. COST NOW IS $4,000 BECAUSE THE HEAD CAN'T BE MACHINED A SECOND TIME. DEALER STATED HONDA RECOMMENDS VALVES BE ADJUSTED EVERY 30,000 MILES. OWNER'S MANUAL CONTRADICTS THAT - INSPECT/ADJUST VALVES ONLY IF NOISY AND AT 105,000 MILES. HONDA 2000 CRV CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. CAR WAS RUNNING AND IDLING ROUGH. I FOUND OUT THAT TSB 03-038 (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR ALL HONDA CRV'S FROM 1999-2001. THIS DEFECT CONCERNS A DEFECTIVE CYLINDER HEAD THAT CAUSES THE VALVES TO RECEDE INTO THE HEAD. AFTER WHAT SOUNDED LIKE THE BACK END OF MY CAR DROPPING OUT, I BEGAN TO PULL OFF THE I-5 FREEWAY (IN CENTRAL CA). The driver side seatbelt does not seem to consistently stayed clicked/closed. After attaching the seatbelt, it will sometimes come loose. I have started to pull on it hard to assure that the latch has indeed made closure.

I WENT TO PUT ON MY SEATBELT, AND WHEN THE BELT PULLED OUT OF THE HOUSING, IT RIPPED COMPLETELY APART. IT WAS NOT A PORTION OF THE EXPOSED BELT, THIS PIECE ALWAYS RESIDED IN THE HOUSING. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME AND WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY.

I HAVE MY GRANDCHILDREN IN CAR SAFTEY SEATS IN THE BACK. THEY ARE SECURED BY OVER THE CHEST SEATBELTS. WHEN STOPPING SHORT, ONE OF THE SEATBELTS DISCONNECTED DIRECTLY FROM THE ROOF OF THE CAR. THE MATERIAL ON THE BELT ITSELF DID NOT BREAK, JUST THE CONNECTION TO THE ROOF. THE SAFETY SEAT JUMPED FORWARD AND HIT THE BACK OF THE PASSENGER SEAT. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE OTHER SEAT BELT ALSO WAS LOOSENED. UPON TAKING MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY REATTACHED THE BELTS TO THE CAR ROOF. I WONDER IF THIS HAS HAPPENED OFTEN, THEREFORE I WANT IT REPORTED SO THAT IN THE EVENT THERE IS A DEFECT IN ALL THE CARS, HONDA WILL REPAIR IT BEFORE ANYONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED.*AK

I AM 6'0". WHEN DRIVING MY HONDA S2000, MY LEFT TEMPLE IS LEVEL WITH AND ONLY A FEW INCHES FROM THE CONVERTIBLE ROOF FRAME. THIS IS A STEEL ROD STRUCTURE, WITH SHARP EDGES. ON TURNING INTO AND OUT OF MY DRIVE, I FREQUENTLY IMPACT MY LEFT TEMPLE ON THIS NONPADDED STRUCTURE. I CONTACTED HONDA THROUGH CONSUMER LINE AND THROUGH THE LOCAL SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP. WHILE I AM NOT AN ENGINEER, IT SEEMS THAT REPLACING THE SEATS WITH OTHERS THAT SIT THE DRIVER LOWER, OR SIMPLY LOWERING THE EXISTING SEAT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT NHTSA INTERCESSION IS NECESSARY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION. I AM ANXIOUSLY AWAITING YOUR REPLY, AS THIS IS MY DAILY TRANSPORTTION. A SIDE IMPACT WOULD PROBABLY CAUSE FATALITY OR MAJOR BRAIN INJURY. I AM A NEUROLOGIST AND HAVE BEEN INJURED IN MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS. GENERALLY, I HAVE BEEN SATISFIED WITH MY 2000 HONDA CRV BUT, AS OF LATE, HAVE ENCOUNTERED SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS WITH THE DOORS. TO THE POINT, THE DOORS DO NOT OPEN, FAIL TO LATCH  OR BOTH. IN FEBRUARY, I COULD NOT GET THE HATCH DOOR TO OPEN. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER (SUNNYSIDE HONDA) AND THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM AND CHARGED ME $125. I WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT DOOR (IT WOULD NOT OPEN) AND THE DEALER ORDERED PARTS WHICH WERE INSTALLED A FEW WEEKS LATER. THE CHARGE WAS $390.90. NOW THE DRIVER-SIDE FRONT DOOR IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE LATCH. I CANT GET THE CAR TO LOCK AND OPENING IT IS ALSO PROBLEMATIC UNLESS I PULL VERY HARD ON THE HANDLE. HONDA CR-V 2000 - I repeatedly contacted dealer in 2020 to get airbag replaced due to recall, but they said they didn't have replacement parts. 11/1/24 I brought car to Honda El Cerrito for airbag replacement due to recall. SRS light was on after their repair, but I didn't know that was a problem. I brought the car to another mechanic a couple weeks later for visual inspection prior to sale, and he said SRS light shouldn't be on & go back to dealer. It took awhile to get another appointment due to holidays. About 1/3/25, dealer looked at car again and said it had a faulty airbag inflator (in the airbag they replaced). It took 8 days for them to approve replacing their own faulty inflator. Meanwhile I couldn't drive it. They replaced the airbag, but then informed me the cable reel was broken and not covered under recall warranty. However, nothing was wrong with car prior to bringing it to El Cerrito Honda, other than needing a replacement airbag due to recall. I'm not aware of SRS light being on prior to visiting EC Honda / airbag replacement the first time. Honda El Cerrito is requiring me to pay $650 out of pocket to complete repairs, since cable reel is not covered. However, my understanding now is that it is common practice to replace the cable reel along with airbag, due to the fact cable reel sometimes breaks during replacing airbag, and it is a sensitive necessary part for SRS function. Honda Corporation says cable reel is not included in the recall / warranty, so this is an out-of-pocket expense to me / consumers. I believe Honda El Cerrito either damaged the cable reel or is requiring me to replace it bc it's common practice with airbag replacement. However they are simply putting the cost & responsibility on me due to age & miles of car. I believe this part (cable reel) should be included in Honda's warranty if it is common practice to replace it along with airbags, since their airbags are on recall. Consumer should not have extra cost due to recall.

AT APPROX 147,000 MILES, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ONE. AFTER DETERMINING IT WAS NOT DUE TO LEAKING GAS CAP, RAN A DIAGNOSTIC ON IT. IT PRODUCED ERROR CODES OF P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 AND P1399 (ALL MISFIRE CODES). TOOK IT TO A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED MECHANIC WHERE THEY ALSO RAN THEIR OWN DIAGNOSTIC WITH SAME ERROR CODES. THE CHECKED THE VALVES RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE (DEFECT) WITH THE FIRST GEN CRV HEAD. HONDA HAS ADMITTED THE PROBLEM AND RE-DESIGNED THE HEAD FOR MY YEAR MODEL TO ELIMINATE THE VALUE PROBLEM. MY HEADS HAD ALREADY BEEN ADJUSTED AT 95K (AS RECOMMENDED BY THE HONDA DEALER SERVICE DEPT) ALTHOUGH THE RECOMMENDED ADJUSTMENT IS AT 105K MILES. WITH MINE REQUIRING ADJUSTMENT 10K MILES SOONER, THIS SHOULD BE A RED FLAG OF A PROBLEM WITH MY ENGINE. BUT NOW THERE IS NO ROOM FOR FURTHER ADJUSTMENT; ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE HEAD WITH THE RE-DESIGNED HEAD. IN EARLIER YEARS (2006) HONDA WAS REPLACING AT NO COST THROUGH THEIR GOODWILL PROGRAM. MOTOR OF LEFT POWER SLIDING DOOR OF OUR 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY EX IS BROKEN AGAIN. MY WIFE TOOK IT TO PHIL BACHMAN HONDA IN KINGSPORT, TN TWICE. FIRST TIME WAS LAST WEEK, THEY SAID THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND HAD TO BE ORDERED. SECOND TIME WHICH IS TODAY, PART WAS NOT COMPLETE (THIS WAS AFTER SHE ASKED YESTERDAY IF ALL THE PARTS ARE IN). IT TAKES AT LEAST AN HOUR DRIVE FROM SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA TO KINGSPORT, TN.*JB

WHILE FOOT IS ON BRAKE AT 4-WAY, CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE ENGINE WILL START TO REV UP. TOOK IT TO HONDA IN PEORIA IL - FIRST TOLD THAT "THEY" DIDN'T CARE TO WORK ON MY SUV BECAUSE IT WASN'T A TRUE HONDA. THEN, THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE ME. AFTER THE THIRD TIME, THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AFTER THE CAR WAS BROUGHT RIGHT OVER AFTER THE PROBLEM HAPPENED. NOTHING SHOWED, SO THEY CHANGED OUT A COUPLE PARTS INCLUDING THE CC SWITCH AND ACUATOR. PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR, BUT NOW THE CAR SHUTS OFF. NOT GOOD WHEN YOU HAVE A GREEN LIGHT. NOW, THE CAR IS OVERHEATING, ALWAYS A QUART LOW EVEN THOUGH OIL CHANGES ARE AT 3,000 MILES. ALSO, THE FUEL GAUGE KEEPS DROPPING THEN GOING BACK UP.

I HAVE MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH VEHICLE: 1) ENGINE STALLS WHILE DRIVING, WHICH INTERRUPTS POWER STEERING. THIS OCCURS GENERALLY WITHIN THE FIRST MILE OF DRIVING, NOW DAILY. INITIALLY, PROBLEM OCCURRED AT RANDOM, ONCE OR TWICE PER MONTH. REGULAR SERVICE CHECKS REVEALED NO PROBLEM. THE CAR RUNS WITHOUT PROBLEMS ALL DAY ONCE THE INITIAL STALLING OF THE ENGINE HAS OCCURRED. CONSUMER INFORMATION HAS FOUND THIS TO BE AN IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM, BUT HONDA-AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEALER REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY RECALL OR PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL ON 1/17/2004. INSTEAD, HONDA CLAIMS THAT A SCHEDULED "VALVE ADJUSTMENT" WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. ENGINE STALLING AND INTERRUPTION OF POWER STEERING IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING, AND THE OCCURRENCE IS NOT PREDICTABLE - HOW CAN I BE SATISFIED WITH A "VALVE ADJUSTMENT" AND TAKE THE CAR BACK ON THE ROAD? 2) ADVANCED TIRE WEAR. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 33,000 AND I HAD TO REPLACE TIRES. FIRESTONE / BRIDGESTONE DEALER MENTIONED THAT THE WEAR IS PREMATURE AND SOLD ME A NEW SET OF TIRES FOR A FAIR PRICE. HONDA AUTHORIZED DEALER MENTIONED THAT IT IS DRIVER/OWNER RESPONSIBILITY TO MAINTAIN VEHICLE TIRE PRESSURE AND ROTATE TIRES ACCORDING TO SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. I HAVE ROTATED AND KEEP CORRECT PRESSURE IN TIRES AT ALL TIMES. 3) WHILE MAKING A SHARP TURN (MORE NOTICEABLE WHILE MAKING A U-TURN) PRIMARILY FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, A LOUD HOWLING NOISE CAN BE HEARD. THE SAME FIRESTONE / BRIDGESTONE DEALER NOTICED THE SAME SOUNDS AND REFERRED ME TO THE HONDA DEALER. HONDA AUTHORIZED DEALER MENTIONED THAT A LUBE SERVICE IS NECESSARY TO TAKE THAT HOWLING NOISE AWAY FROM MY VEHICLE. FIRESTONE / BRIDGESTONE BELIEVE MORE THAN A LUBE JOB IS NEEDED. 4) REAR GLASS TRUNK LID LEAKS DURING CAR WASHES AND STRONG WINDY RAIN. *JB
