June 17, 2022 my daughter was hit on the driver side rear corner panel by a vehicle that ran a red light. The impact had enough force to spin her 2003 Honda CRV 180 degrees yet none of the airbags deployed. The rear driver side wheel was bent inward and had to be towed.

The contact received notification of a recall for a 2003 Honda CR-V she never owned. The contact received several post cards notifications for Takata air bag recalls and requested to be removed from the recall distribution list. The contact stated that the recall notification was addressed to an unknown individual who never lived at her address. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted.

The SRS light in my Honda CRV recently went on, and remains on, when the vehicle is in operation. Last week, I took the car to Honda of Princeton (local Honda dealer), who diagnosed the problem as a DTC 15-3 Faulty OPDS Sensor, and further explained that this faulty sensor could potentially cause the passenger-side airbag (replaced in a prior Honda CRV recall) to NOT deploy in the event of an accident. Indeed, the repair documentation included a dealer statement that I had been made aware of the issue. I paid for this diagnostic work, which was overseen by [XXX], who is a service lane manager at the dealer (Tel: [XXX]). The dealer said it would NOT assume financial responsibility for the replacement of this faulty sensor since the defect is not currently the subject of a Honda product recall, and stressed that this defect is not covered by the various Honda airbag recalls, even though the faulty sensor could impair airbag deployment in an accident. This faulty sensor may cause non-deployment of the passenger-side airbag, and it would therefore seem self-evident that the defect places the safety of any front-seat passenger in my Honda CRV at grave risk. Today, I called American Honda Motor Company (Tel: 888-234-2138) concerning the faulty sensor, and spoke with "[XXX]", who opened Case #[XXX] based on our call. [XXX] said the faulty sensor is not currently the subject of a Honda product recall. She also confirmed (I had already found the bulletin online and asked about it) that the Honda CRV's faulty OPDS sensor was the subject of Honda Service Bulletin 06-006, which extended the warranty to 10 years for the faulty sensor, but she noted that the faulty OPDS sensor was no longer covered by this service bulletin or warranty. [XXX] said that American Honda Motor Co. would not assume financial responsibility for the faulty OPDS sensor on this basis, but suggested that I try to 'work with' the local Honda dealer to address the problem. [XXX] . I TOOK MY 2003 HONDA INTO LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP IN FEBRUARY OR MARCH OF 2021 (UNSURE WHEN EXACTLY) FOR THEM TO WORK ON ANOTHER RECALL. I HAD RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL LETTER FROM HONDA NATIONAL CORP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID I HAD ALREADY HAD THIS DONE. BUT NOW I LOOKED UP MY VIN ON NHTSA WEBSITE AND IT SAYS THERE IS ONE "UNREPAIRED RECALL" FROM JUNE 27, 2019. I HAVE RESPONDED TO HONDA'S REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION RE: I NO LONGER OWN MY VEHICLE AT LEAST FOUR TIMES! I PROVIDED TRADE IN INFO IN 2008 WHEN I PURCHASED A NEW CAR. WHY HAVEN'T THEY RECORDED THE INFORMATION I PROVIDED? I FEEL HONDA IS NOT ACTING IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE PUBLIC WHEN I SEE THEY DON'T RECORD INFORMATION SUCH AS I'VE PROVIDED NUMEROUS TIMES.

The contact owns a 2003 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated, and the engine fan was inoperable causing the engine to overheat. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who replaced the thermostat, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.

ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON AUGUST 28TH, MY 2003 HONDA CRV HAD AN ENGINE FIRE. THE ONLY WARNING, WAS A RUBBING SOUND WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED BUT NO DASH LAMPS PRIOR TO SEEING THE SMOKE AND SUBSEQUENT FIRE. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET MY FAMILY OUT OF THE CRV AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. UPON REPAIRING THE CAR AT THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER, THEY IDENTIFIED THE AC COMPRESSOR AS THE LIKELY ROOT CAUSE OF THE FIRE BASED ON MELTED CLUTCH DRIVE WIRES WHICH APPEAR TO BE THE IGNITION SOURCE FOR THE OVERHEATED DRIVE BELT. SINCE THE 2 YR OLD AC COMPRESSOR WAS A FOUR SEASONS - EVERCO 58881 REPLACEMENT A/C COMPRESSOR FROM AUTO ZONE, HONDA WAS NOT INTERESTED IN ANY FURTHER INVESTIGATION BUT THEY DID ALLOW ME TO KEEP THE DAMAGED AC COMPRESSOR AND DRIVE BELT. I SPOKE WITH EVERCO CUSTOMER SERVICE HOWEVER THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT DEAL WITH THE PUBLIC DIRECTLY SO I DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE WITH THE AUTO ZONE DISTRICT SERVICE MANAGER WHO MADE AN INTERNAL INQUIRY AND THEN SAID THEY COULD NOT INITIATE A CLAIM BECAUSE THE COMPONENT IS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT NEITHER HONDA, AUTOZONE NOR EVERCO ARE INTERESTED IN A ROOT CAUSE INVESTIGATION OR PROVIDING ANY COMPENSATION. JUST DRIVING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY AND I HEAR A LOUD NOISE AND MY A/C STOPS WORKING....IT WAS 94 DEGREES IN THE MIDWEST! GOT HOME THAT NIGHT AND MY TIRE WAS FLAT. I TOOK MY TIRE TO GET FIXED AND THEY PULLED SHARDS OF METAL OUT OF THE TIRE, WHICH WAS NEW! WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO GET THE A/C LOOKED AT, THEY SAID THAT THE COMPRESSOR HAD BLOWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND THAT IT WOULD BE $1700 TO REPAIR!!!!! THEY TOLD ME THAT WHEN THE COMPRESSOR BLEW, IT SPRAYED PIECES OF METAL THROUGHOUT MY CAR, AND OBVIOUSLY INTO MY TIRE! I CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA, AND THEY OFFERED TO SPLIT THE COST. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TAKE THIS OFFER AS IT WAS SUMMER AND TEMPERATURES WERE OVER 100 WITH THE HEAT INDEX! HONDA REFUSED TO GIVE ME THE DAMAGED PART. WHILE DRIVING THE 2003 CRV, I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE MARBLES GOING THROUGH THE AC VENTS, THEN SAW A PUFF OF SMOKE FROM UNDER THE HOOD, THE AC QUIT BLOWING COLD AIR. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE CRV, HE SAID CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA SINCE YOU ARE A LOYAL CUSTOMER AND THE PROBABLY WOULD COVER IT UNDER A GOOD WILL GESTURE. NO SUCH LUCK, THE PERSON WE SPOKE TO SAID THAT THEY WOULD GIVE US NOTHING, SINCE THIS IS NOT A HONDA ISSUE. I WANTED TO TALK TO A DIFFERENT PERSON. I GOT SEVERAL ESTIMATES NOW TO REPLACE THE AC, ANYWHERE FROM $2900 TO $4500 DEPENDING ON WHERE I TAKE IT. HONDA DEALERS ARE REQUIRING THE WHOLE SYSTEM TO BE REPLACED, COMPRESSOR, DRYER UNIT, CONDENSER AND LINES. APPARENTLY IT SENDS METAL PARTICLES THROUGH OUT THE WHOLE SYSTEM. IF IT IS NOT FLUSHED OR REPLACED IT WILL OCCUR AGAIN. I HAVE NOW TRIED TO GET THE DEALER TO HELP THE WILL COVER 25% OF THE COST ON PARTS ONLY. I WILL PROBABLY GET THE SYSTEM REPAIRED OR SELL THE VEHICLE AS IS. UNSURE. PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE WHEN I DO HAVE IT REPAIRED, I WILL ASK FOR THEM BACK. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED RAPIDLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 85 MPH AND WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD. 2003 HONDA CRV UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING STALL ON 8/2/17 AT 6:45AM. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED UP FULL THROTTLE AND THE CAR SURGED FORWARD. DRIVING WITH SPEED CONTROL ON I TAPPED THE BRAKES TO RELEASE IT. THE CAR SPED UP AS IF THE ACCELERATOR HAD BEEN PRESSED TO THE FLOOR AND HELD THERE. I CONTINUED TO TAP THE BRAKES, BUT THE SPEED CONTROL WOULD NOT RELEASE. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND IT WOULD NOT RELEASE. NOW I AM FLYING DOWN THE APRON OF THE ROAD JUST MISSING STOPPED CARS STILL GOING 65 BEING JOSTLED VIOLENTLY. THE SPEED CONTROL DISENGAGES AFTER I PASS ABOUT 20 CARS. THE CAR FINALLY IS ABLE TO STOP. MY HAND WAS AT NO POINT CLOSE TO THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS OF THE SPEED CONTROL. MY FOOT NEVER HIT OR HELD THE ACCELERATOR. A RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS IMPALED BY DEBRIS.

I WAS AT A PUBLIC AQUATIC CENTER AND WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE CAR ACCELERATED UP TO ABOUT 15 MILES PER HOUR OR MORE. I ENDED UP HITTING THE BUILDING HEAD ON CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END END OF MY CAR AND TO MYSELF AS WELL.

I HAD JUST TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP THE WEEK BEFORE, AND THEY HAD REPLACED THE STARTER AS WELL AS DOING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. ONE WEEK LATER, I HAD JUST LEFT THE HOUSE AND WAS DRIVING TOWARD A MAJOR INTERSECTION AT 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I PUSHED DOWN ON THE BRAKE AND WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN SOMEWHAT BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RACING. I TRIED TO PULL THE ACCELERATOR UP BUT WITH THE TOP OF MY FOOT, BUT THIS DID NOTHING. PUTTING ALL OF MY WEIGHT ON THE BRAKE I SLOWED IT ENOUGH TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT AT ABOUT 10 MPH, AT WHICH POINT I JAMMED IT INTO PARK. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE UNTIL I TURNED IT OFF. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED, THE DRIVER STARTED THE CAR WHICH AGAIN CAUSED THE ENGINE TO REV EXTREMELY HIGH, AND HE IMMEDIATELY TURNED IT OFF. AFTER TOWING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE MECHANICS THERE WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, DURING WHICH TIME THEY DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 80 MILES. THEN THEY CALLED US AND SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, AND THEY HAVE ASKED US TO COME PICK UP THE VEHICLE. IN 2003 , WE BOUGHT A NEW HONDA CRV. THE VEHICLE HAS PERFORMED WONDERFULLY. WE TOOK IT IN FOR ITS 110,000 MILE SERVICE AND WE WERE TOLD THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS INOPERABLE. THE PUMP WAS SEIZED. WE ASKED IF THIS WAS COMMON AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT IT'S " A HIGHER INCIDENCE THAN HONDA LIKES." I WENT ONLINE AND WAS APPALLED AT THE NUMBER OF IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS. I HEARD A GROWLING NOISE IN OCTOBER (THE LAST TIME WE USED THE AC) WHICH WAS THE AC PUMP SEIZING UP. There was a recall for 2003 CRV will water getting into master door look switch. This switch would cause fire. The smell off burning plastic and smoke came from the door look switch. The the rear driver window didn't work. I don't use the window so it wasn't important. About 6 months later it happened again the smoke almost caused an accident. The passenger side front door wouldn't work. I changed both blown fuses. And smoke started right away and pooped both fuses. I removed the door look master switch. There are burns and melted plastic on switches and plastic body. I called Honda and they say it's the same symptoms but they're not covering it. There was a recall for this on Honda CRVs of this year for the same reason. Please tell me why some vehicles are covered and some are not when it's the same thing happening. So I am going to send this complaint to you and I'm also going to talk to my attorney.

THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK DOES NOT WORK AND CAUSES THE LOCKS NOT TO WORK. I AM NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S DOOR WITH A KEY OR AUTOMATIC KEY. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WHICH WAS REPAIRED BY WAY OF A TEMPORARY REPAIRS BY MY MECHANIC IN 2013. I WAS AT LEAST ABLE TO GET INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE WITH MY AUTOMATIC KEY BUT COULD NOT OPEN IT WITH THE KEY. NOW THE DRIVER;S SIDE DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. I CAN ONLY CLIMB IN THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE USING THE KEY ONLY. BACK IN 2013 BEFORE THE TEMP REPAIRS WERE MADE I CONTACTED HONDA TO SEE IF THEY HAD A RECALL AND BASED ON MY VIN # THERE WAS NO RECALL THE THE LOCKS.

AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS MALFUNCTION. LOCKS DO NOT RESPOND TO SIGNAL FROM KEYF FOB NOR FROM ACTUAL DOOR CONTROL BUTTONS ON DOOR. THE VEHICLE IS SITTING IN A PARKED POSITION. I BELIEVE THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR IS FAULTY. I SUSPECT IT TO BE A KNOWN DEFECT BY HONDA. IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM? I HAVE A 2004 HONDA CR-V WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Lowbeams went out when I got off work but highneams were working. I bought new bulbs the next day and the problem unchanged. So I checked all fuses and relays those were all fine. I proceeded to remove the steering column cover and disconnected the connectors and the gray one had what looks like Rust and or melted. This is very alarming because until I can replace the connector I have to drive home at nights with high beams. This may cause an accident and or me getting pulled over for having highbeams on. I do have a picture of said connector I took today 8/16/21.

THE TIRE IS A BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK 215/70QR16 THAT IS ON A 2003 HONDA ELEMENT. THE TIRE WAS PROPERLY INFLATED AND WAS JUST PUT ON NOVEMBER OF 2004.

IN MY 2003 HONDA CRV EX I HAD BEEN NOTICING THAT MY STEERING WHEEL TILT LOCK LEVER HAD BEEN GETTING LOOSER AFTER EACH TIME I ADJUSTED THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION. SOMETIMES I WOULD JUST BE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SUDDENLY GO UP AND DOWN AND I WOULD HAVE TO REACT VERY QUICKLY BY PUSHING THE STEERING WHEEL TILT LEVER BACK UP INTO THE LOCKING POSITION. EVENTUALLY THIS PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR UP TO 5 TIMES A DAY. RECENTLY I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY ENTIRE FAMILY IN MY CRV. I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 64 MILES AN HOUR WHEN SUDDENLY THE STEERING WHEEL LURCHED ALMOST OUT OF MY HANDS AFTER GOING OVER A SMALL BUMP. I WAS SURROUNDED BY VEHICLES ON ALL SIDES AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. IF I DID NOT ACT VERY QUICKLY BY PULLING THE TILT LEVER BACK INTO THE LOCKING POSITION THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE MULTICAR ACCIDENT ON THE INTERSTATE AND ME AND MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. I CALLED MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED AND IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FAULTY TILT LEVER. THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF A RECALL FOR THIS ITEM. THE DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT ALLOW KEY TO BE INSERTED. BEEN THIS WAY FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AND IT STARTED WITH LOCKS DIFFICULT TO TURN. NOW NO LOCKS WORK AFTER FRANK ANCONA HONDA OF OLATHE KANSAS "REPAIRED" THEM A FEW YEARS BACK AND EVEN MADE NEW KEYS. THEY JUST TOLD ME TO FORCE THE KEYS IN AND TWIST HARD THEN TRIED TO CHARGE ME FOR SOMETHING THAT WASN'T FIXED. I DID NOT PAY FOR THE UNSATISFACTORY WORK. I'VE REPLACED DOOR LOCKS ON SEVERAL OTHER MAKE VEHICLES AND HAVE CARS THAT ARE 35 YEARS OLDER AND THOSE DOOR LOCKS WORK PERFECTLY. WHILST DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, OUT OF NOWHERE THE HOOD FLIPPED UP OVER THE WINDSHIELD AND BLOCKED ALL VIEW. I ALMOST GOT INTO A HUGE ACCIDENT AND WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE IN THE LEFT LANE. THE HOOD IS UNFIXABLE, THE ROOF IS DAMAGED WHERE THE HOOD IMPACTED AND THE ELECTRIC ON THE INSIDE SECTION OF THE ROOF NO LONGER WORK. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE SRS SYSTEM CHECKED BECAUSE THE LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER DID A 40 POINT INSPECTION WHICH RESULTED IN THE RECOMMENDATION TO REPLACE THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNT DUE TO A "FAILURE" IN THE SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD THE MOUNTS (FRONT, SIDE AND BACK) FAIL ON THE HONDA ODYSSEY'S (NEWER MODELS, OURS IS AN '03) OFTEN. THE RESULT OF MOTOR MOUNT FAILURE IS EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT OF THE ENGINE WHEN UNDER "LOAD." I WAS TOLD THAT MEANS THE ENGINE MOVES WITHIN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT DURING BRAKING, SHARP TURNS, BUMPS AND ACCELERATION. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT ONCE ONE MOTOR MOUNT "BREAKS" THE OTHERS HAVE MORE TENSION AND WILL ALSO FAIL. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE PART BE REPLACED BEFORE THE OTHER MOTOR MOUNTS FAIL AND CAUSE MAJOR PROBLEMS. THIS IS CURRENTLY NOT A RECALL OR FREE LIFETIME WARRANTY. OUR LOCAL HONDA MECHANIC TOLD US THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS SHOULD NEVER FAIL (ESPECIALLY ON SUCH A NEW CAR). SEAT BELT AROUND CHILD USING A CHILD SAFETY SEAT MALFUNCTIONED AND COULD NOT BE REMOVED. SEAT BELT CONTINUED TO TIGHTEN TO THE POINT OF SUFFOCATION FOR CHILD. IT WOULD NOT RETRACT. ALL EFFORTS TO RELEASE SEAT BELT CAUSED IT TO FURTHER TIGHTEN. DUE TO FEAR THAT CHILD WOULD BE ASPHYXIATED, SEAT BELT WAS CUT. IN EFFORT TO GET IT REPAIRED, I HAVE FOUND THAT SEAT BELTS ARE NOT KEPT IN STOCK AND WILL HAVE TO BE ORDERED.

The contact stated that the driver's side front power window switch failed to operate as needed. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

WHILE USING THE DRIVER SIDE MASTER WINDOW SWITCH I SMELLED AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL. EARLIER ON THE SAME DAY THE RIGHT FRONT WINDOW FAILED TO MOVE WHEN I USED THE MASTER SWITCH TO CONTROL IT. THE BURNING SMELL CONTINUED TO WORSEN EVERY TIME I USED THE MASTER WINDOW SWITCH. MY MECHANIC TRACKED THE PROBLEM TO THE MASTER WINDOW SWITCH AND REMOVED IT. THE MASTER SWITCH HAD MELTED AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ELECTRICAL FIRE HAD I CONTINUED TO USE IT. HONDA HAS SINCE ISSUED RECALLS ON THE MASTER WINDOW SWITCH FOR 2002-2006 HONDA CRVS, HOWEVER MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED; HONDA STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS VIN-SPECIFIC AND MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE RECALL ANNOUNCED ON OCT. 6, 2012 STATED "OVER TIME, EXPOSURE TO WATER AND OTHER FLUIDS CAN CAUSE ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE IN THE SWITCH, WHICH ULTIMATELY CAN CAUSE THE SWITCH TO OVERHEAT AND MELT, DAMAGING THE SWITCH AND POTENTIALLY DAMAGING AN ASSOCIATED WIRE HARNESS. HAVE TO MANUALLY UNLOCK/LOCK THE DOOR WITH THE KEY. THE INTERIOR DRIVER DOOR LOCK CAN NOT BE MOVED UP OR DOWN MANUALLY. ONLY THE KEY CAN MOVE THE DOOR LOCK. NOW THE KEY IS STICKING AND NOT TURNING IN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK. MUST TRY MULTIPLE TIMES TO FINALLY GET IT TO WORK. 3 OUT OF 4 DOOR LOCKS ARE FAULTY AND DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE AIR CONDITIONER UNIT HAS BROKEN OVER AND OVER. I'VE PAID THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS REPAIRING IT. I'M DISABLED AND GET VERY ILL IN THE HEAT. ON TUESDAY MARCH 14, 2017 THE CAR WINDOW MOTOR STARTED ACTING UP, THE WINDOW WOULD GO DOWN ON ITS OWN. AS I STARTED THE CAR I STARTED I BEGAN TO SMELL SMOKE, IT APPEARED TO BE COMING FROM DRIVER SIDE DOOR NEAR THE WINDOW. UPON TURNING THE CAR OFF AND REMOVING THE NEGATIVE END TO THE BATTERY THE CAR BEGAN SMOKING MORE AND IN SECONDS THE DRIVERS DOOR WAS UP IN FLAMES. I HAD TO RUN AND GRAB A FIRE EXTINGUISHER FROM INSIDE. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT HOWEVER THE DOOR WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED, THE CAR SEAT WAS BURNED AS WELL AS THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS LUCKILY STATIONARY, AND THE EVENT OCCURRED ON MY PROPERTY WHERE I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITHOUT CAUSING MORE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. Similar to an NHTSA campaign No. 19V053000 of Honda 2017-2019 Ridgelines recall, there is a hairline crack on the fuel pump feed port of my 2003 Honda CR-V that is 'spewing' gasoline whenever the car key is in "ON" position, and much more leakage when the engine is running. There is NO engine CODE that is showing in my dashboard. The vehicle is running fine. The only indication is a VERY strong smell of gasoline in the cabin, and traces of fuel leak from underneath the vehicle (along the outside of the gas tank).

The ac compressor and drier on my 2003 Honda CR-V failed and contaminated my whole entire ac system. Contaminants from the compressor have been released. This issue is common for Honda crvs from the earlier 2000’s, because the compressors are substandard. Unfortunately Honda never alerted me of the faulty ac compressor, so I could ensure the ac compressor was replaced in time. Due to this substandard ac compressor, my whole entire ac system needs to be flushed and replaced. I have a new baby and I am not sure if she or I inhaled any contaminants from this issue. This issue was checked and confirmed by a mechanic, and the vehicle is available for inspection. I did not receive any alert or warning messages from my car for this issue.

SMELLED GAS AND NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS USING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF GAS FOR THE DISTANCE TRAVELED. THE NEXT DAY I HAD TO STOP FOR GAS AGAIN (HAD JUST GOTTEN GAS THE PREVIOUS DAY) AND AS I WAS PUTTING THE NOZZLE BACK INTO THE GAS PUMP, GAS STARTED GUSHING FROM UNDERNEATH MY VEHICLE. APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES LATER IT SLOWED TO A DRIP AND THEN COMPLETELY STOPPED A FEW MINUTES AFTERWARDS. A STORE EMPLOYEE CAME TO ASSIST AND HE THOUGHT IT WAS AN OVERFLOW ISSUE AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE OKAY TO DRIVE. WE'D PUSHED THE VEHICLE TO A DRY AREA BEFORE CRANKING IT TO MAKE SURE IT DIDN'T LEAK ANYMORE. ON THE WAY HOME, WITHIN A 10 MILE STRETCH I LOST HALF OF A TANK OF GAS. THAT WAS ON A WEDNESDAY, I DIDN'T MOVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN UNTIL FRIDAY MORNING. THE GROUND WAS SATURATED WITH GAS WHEN I LEFT FOR WORK THAT FRIDAY MORNING. I'D ALREADY ARRANGED TO DROP IT OFF AT THE AUTO SHOP THAT MORNING BEFORE WORK. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITHIN MINUTES OF LEAVING HOME. THE SHOP DETERMINED IT WAS A CRACKED WASHER/NUT THAT SECURES THE FUEL PUMP INSIDE THE TANK. THE PUMP WAS LITERALLY SITTING AT THE TOP OF THE TANK HITTING UNDERNEATH THE BACK SEAT. THE SHOP MECHANIC SAID IT WAS A MIRACLE IT DIDN'T CATCH FIRE AND BLOW UP. IT'S BACK IN THE SHOP AGAIN BECAUSE IT'S STILL LEAKING GAS. THE GROUND WHERE I PARK WAS SATURATED AGAIN FOR THE PAST 3 DAYS (I'D MOVED IT TO A DIFFERENT SPOT EVERY DAY FOR SEVERAL DAYS TO DETERMINE IT WAS STILL LEAKING. IT'D REMAINED PARKED FOR THE PAST 3 DAYS EXCEPT FOR MOVING IT OVER TO A DRY SPOT. I'LL BE PARKING OUTSIDE JUST IN CASE BUT ANY ADVICE ABOUT HOW TO GET THIS FIXED WOULD BE GREAT. BEING A 14 YEAR OLD CAR I FEEL LIKE I WILL HAVE TROUBLES WITH THE DEALERSHIPS I HOPE THAT'S NOT THE CASE THE CRV IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AND I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP IT THAT WAY.

WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE A STRANGE SOUND, THE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED BLOWING COOL AIR, AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WAS FILLED WITH FREON, WHICH CAUSED THE COMPRESSOR TO FREEZE AND SEIZE THE ENGINE. ON 06/04/18, WHEN IN MOTION,IN REVERSE, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I DROPPED IT INTO DRIVE, IT CONTINUED UNTIL I BRAKED AND JAMMED IT INTO PARK, THEN THE ENGINE RETURNED TO IDLE.

MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE, TRAVELING UP A SLIGHT HILL AT 65 MPH. I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO INCREASE POWER, AND THE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED FROM 3K TO ABOUT 5.5K. THE CRV ACCELERATED RAPIDLY, APPROACHING 80 MPH, AND I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE PEDAL. THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE, AND THE CRV CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE TO 85 MPH. AT THIS POINT, I MADE SURE THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS TURNED OFF. I QUICKLY REALIZED SOMETHING WAS WRONG, SO I BEGAN TO APPLY THE BRAKES, GENTLY AT FIRST, BUT THE ENGINE WAS RACING AND ACCELERATING THE CRV, SO I HAD TO SMASH ON THE BRAKE WITH BOTH FEET. I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CRV DOWN TO ABOUT 45 MPH AND EXIT THE INTERSTATE AT A REST AREA. ONCE ON THE OFF-RAMP, I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE UNDER A LOT OF STRESS. THE ENGINE RPMS SHOT EVEN HIGHER, SO I CUT THE IGNITION AND COASTED INTO THE REST AREA. WE HAD TO CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK. A MECHANIC CONFIRMED (AS I SUSPECTED) THAT THE BUTTERFLY VALVE IN THE ENGINE THROTTLE BODY WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. A FEW DAYS LATER, A HONDA PARTS INSPECTOR REVIEWED THE CRV AND DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, AND THAT WE WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR A NEW THROTTLE BODY. A SERIES OF CALLS WITH CORPORATE HONDA ENSUED, WHEREIN THEY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECTIVE PART. AFTER MUCH COMPLAINING ON MY PART, HONDA AGREED TO PAY FOR A NEW THROTTLE AS LONG AS I WOULD SIGN A WAIVER ABSOLVING THEM OF ALL FUTURE LEGAL LIABILITY. I REFUSED TO DO SO. ULTIMATELY, I WORKED WITH MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO TRADE-IN THE CRV FOR A NEWER MODEL. I DO NOT KNOW THE FATE OF THE 2003 CRV. ALMOST 100% OF THE TIME I USE THE REMOTE TO UNLOCK AND LOCK THE 2003 HONDA CR-V EX. WHEN RECENTLY TRYING THE KEY, IT DID NOT WORK IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK. AS A RESULT OF DISCOVERING THIS DEFECT, I TRY THE KEY OCCASIONALLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF SEEING WHAT HAPPENS IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK. OTHER KEY/LOCK OBSERVATIONS: 1. USUALLY THE KEY DOESN'T EVEN GO INTO THE LOCK. 2. SOMETIMES THE KEY GOES IN THE LOCK ALL THE WAY, BUT WON'T TURN EITHER WAY. 3. OCCASIONALLY THE LOCK WORKS PERFECTLY, WITH NO RESISTANCE OR APPARENT PROBLEM, LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE LOCK. 4. EACH OF THESE SPORADIC ISSUES HAPPEN WITH TWO OTHER HONDA-MADE "SIDEWINDER" KEYS FOR THE CAR, WHICH ARE LIKE NEW. (THE MAIN KEY IS ALWAYS USED FOR THE IGNITION AND IS WORN THEREFROM.) 5. HOW CAN THE LOCK PINS WEAR OUT WHEN THEY ARE BARELY USED? IF THE PINS HAVE WORN OUT, WHY DOES THE KEY GO ALL THE WAY INTO THE LOCK SOMETIMES? AND WHY DOES THE LOCK WORK PERFECTLY SOMETIMES? THIS IS A PERSONAL SAFETY ISSUE, AS WELL AS AN ISSUE REGARDING A BASIC FUNCTION OF THE CAR. THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS REQUIRED RE-GROUNDING AFTER WARPING HAD OCCURRED WHICH CAUSED A PULSATING SENSATION WHEN BRAKING. THE ROTORS WERE RE-GROUND AT 34K, BUT THE PULSATING BEHAVIOR BEGAN SOMEWHERE AROUND AN ESTIMATED 28K. THE TIRES HAD ONLY BEEN ROTATED TWICE AND BOTH TIMES WERE SECURED USING FACTORY TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS, SO INCORRECT LUG NUT SETTINGS SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A FACTOR. NO EVIDENCE OF GLAZING FROM RIDING THE BRAKES WAS PRESENT, NOR HAS THE CAR EVER BEEN DRIVEN WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DEPLOYED. THE CAR IS BELIEVED TO BE DRIVEN WITHIN NORMAL TOLERANCES SINCE WE PURCHASED NEW IN 6/03 AND HAS BEEN USED MORE FOR COMMUTING MODE RATHER THAN A LOT OF STOP AND GO USEAGE. THE FACTORY REAR BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED AND HAD APPROXIMATELY 10% REMAINING (WEAR TAB JUST STARTED WARNING 10 MILES EARLIER), WHILE THE FRONT BRAKES HAVE NEARLY 70% ORIGINAL MATERIAL REMAINING. I HAVE INSTALLED RAYBESTOS CERAMIC PADS ON THE REAR, BUT MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS AN ENGINEERING FLAW AND NOT DRIVEN MIS-USE/ABUSE AND THAT I'LL LIKELY HAVE TO REPAY FOR THIS REPEATEDLY IF I'M TYPICAL OF OTHERS WHO'VE COMPLAINED OF WARPED ROTORS ON THE 03 ACCORD EX - 6 CYL.

VEHICLE FIRE REGARDING 2003 HONDA CRV. *MR THERE WAS OVERHEATING OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS THAT CAUSED THE FIRE. THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS LOCKED IN THE BURNING VEHICLE. MINOR HEAT AND FIRE DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED TO THE RIGHT FRONT AREA OF THE ENGINE STARTING NEAR THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY EXTENDING UPWARDS TOWARDS THE VALVE COVER AREA. UPON EXAMINATION OF THE FUSE/RELAY CENTER LOCATED IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT REVEALED A 15 AMP FUSE PROTECTING THE ECU CIRCUIT WAS BLOWN CONSISTENT WITH A COMPONENT AND OR ELECTRICAL FAILURE WITHIN THIS CIRCUIT. *SC ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICAL REPORT, THE FIRE BEGAN IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND WAS CONSIDERED AN ACCIDENT NOT A MANUFACTURER DEFECT.*JB

I let my daughter borrow my crv, she was coming backing from making errands going around a corner and she could not control the vehicle, she continued to try to turn the wheel in the direction she wanted to go but it would not, she ended up hitting another vehicle and came to a rest in someone’s yard. The officer on the scene did not want to sight her but had to under the law failure to control, he could see it was a mechanical failure. My vehicle has been maintained by several good mechanics but where the frame broke unless you pulled all the plastic down you would never know the frame was rotted. My daughter was 6.5 months pregnant at the time and her doctors told her to go get emergency ultrasounds done she had 2. The day of the accident and the next day. Everything was fine. I did contact and sent some pictures to Honda and all of the information they asked for but never heard back. I did try to send pictures but it would not let me upload.

I PURCHASED THE 2003 HONDA CRV FROM ANTHONY AUTO SALES IN THOMSON, GA ON 2/21/2020. AFTER PURCHASE I NOTICED MY CIGARETTE LIGHTER/CHARGING PORT DIDN'T WORK. MY SON WAS DRIVING MY 2003 HONDA CRV ON HIGHWAY 101 SOUTH NEAR EXIT 484A, IN ROHNERT PARK, CA JUST SOUTH OF THE TODD RD. OVERPASS/ON RAMP. IT WAS A WINDY DAY. THE HOOD OF THE CRV CAME UP AND HIT/BROKE THE WINDSHIELD. MY SON WAS ABLE TO LOOK SIDEWAYS TO GUIDE HIMSELF OFF THE FREEWAY. HE WAS ABLE TO GUIDE HIMSELF INTO A SAFETY ZONE NEXT TO THE FREEWAY, BUT COULDN'T GET OUT OF HIS CAR. HE REACHED AROUND FROM THE DRIVER'S SEAT, AND WAS ABLE TO PULL DOWN THE HOOD SOMEWHAT (HE'S 6'4"). HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE DOWN FARTHER TO A MORE SAFE AREA ON THE WILFRED AVENUE OFF/RAMP. HE WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, AND FURTHER CLOSE THE HOOD. THE WINDSHIELD IS SHATTERED, AND THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE HOOD. THE FORCE CAUSED TWO AREAS OF THE HOOD TO BEND NEAR THE WINDSHIELD. THE HOOD WON'T OPEN NOW. IT IS IN A OPENED POSITION. THERE ARE SMALL DENTS IN THE HOOD FROM THE IMPACT. FROM THIS LOCATION, HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES HOME, USING BACK ROADS AND STICKING HIS HEAD OUT OF THE WINDOW TO SEE WHERE HE WAS GOING. THIS HAPPENED ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON IN A RUSH TIME ON THE FREEWAY. LUCKILY, MY MIDDLE AGED SON WAS STRONG ENOUGH AND TALL ENOUGH TO CLOSE THE HOOD WHILE IN THE SAFETY LANE. I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO SO, DUE TO BEING ELDERLY. WE HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET OF MULTIPLE INCIDENTS WITH THE HONDA CRV 2002-2006 HOOD OPENING UP AND HITTING THE WINDSHIELD, YET NO RECALL HAS BEEN INITIATED. WHEN THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED THE STATED IT WAS THE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE SUV AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE DEALER DID REPLACE THE LOWER BRAKE PAD RETAINER CLIPS AS PER SERVICE BULLETIN. THE CONSUMER WAS OFFERED TO DRIVE ANOTHER 2003 CRV TO PROVE THE NOISY BRAKES WERE A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER WASN'T HAPPY WITH THIS AND WOULD LIKE SOME SORT OF DISCOUNT OR THE DEALER TO PAY OFF THE VEHICLE. THE SEAT BELT WOULDN'T LATCH. CONSUMER HAD THE THROTTLE CABLE REPLACED TO ELIMINATE THE NOISE BUT TO NO AVAIL. CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE NOISE WILL NEVER GO COMPLETELY AWAY. *PH *NLM
