WHILE DRIVING FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, THE AC WAS WORKING JUST FINE WHEN A HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL STARTED COMING FROM THE ENGINE. LIFTING MY FOOT OFF THE GAS SEEMED TO HELP AND THE NOISE WENT AWAY, BUT THE NOISE CAME BACK, AND A THUMPING SOUND STARTED TO COME THROUGH AND A SMALL POP HAPPENED, SENDING SOME SORT OF BLACK CANISTER SHOOTING OUT FROM UNDER MY CAR AND ONTO THE FREEWAY. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE CAR FOR DAMAGE, NOT SEEING ANY MAJOR MARKS ON THE ENGINE AND NO LIQUIDS LEAKING FROM THE CAR. ONLY WHEN I REACHED MY DESTINATION AND THE CAR WOULD BLOW BOILING HOT AIR OUT OF THE VENTS DID I NOTICE AND ISSUE. THE DEALER DID AN INSPECTION OF THE CAR, AND TOLD ME THE AC HAD LITERALLY FALLEN OUT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A MAJOR PIECE OF A VEHICLE CAN FALL OUT, AND NOT BE ABLE TO BE REPLACED WITHOUT PAYING $2,000. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 HONDA CR-V. I HAD MY AC ON AND IT BEGAN TO GRIND. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS MY MOTOR, BUT SOON REALIZED IT WAS MY AIR CONDITIONER UNIT. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT. COST FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC - $106.00 COST TO FIX IT: $4000.00 DIAGNOSIS:A/C COMPRESSOR FAILED. ALL THE A/C PARTS ARE INTERNALLY CONTAMINATED WITH METAL FROM THE COMPRESSOR. NEEDS A/C KIT (C) AND CLUTCH AND COIL. I HAVE BEEN CHECKING ONLINE AND MANY 2003 AND 2004 HONDA CRV'S HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL. I DON'T HAVE THAT MONEY TO SPEND, YET NEED AIR CONDITIONING. THE VEHICLE WAS ON THE ROAD GOING 60 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN HEARD LIKE A EXPLOSION SOUND AND IT MADE US SCARED AND MADE US NERVOUS TO DRIVE IT WE HAVE PUT 3 COMPRESSORS TOTAL. 2 COMPRESSOR ALONE AND ANOTHER COMPRESSOR WITH THE WHOLE THINGS LIKE FANS, RADIATOR,FOR AIR CONDITIONER HOSE,ETC, EVERYTHING. VERY COSTLY AND REGARDLESS IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM NOT WORKING. I DON'T KNOW IF ITS A SAFETY ISSUE BUT IT SHOULD BE BECAUSE I THINK IF IT MAKES THAT EXPLOSION SOUND THAT STUFF COMES OUT TO THE AIR. HONDA ERRORS ARE COSTING THE CONSUMERS A LOT OF MONEY IT SHOULD BE A RECALL AND FIX AND REFUNDED IF POSSIBLE. I BROUGHT THIS CAR IN 2006 AND WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE. While cruising down a standard roadway around 40 mph, the passenger side/seat airbag randomly deployed for no apparent reason. The sound and shock of the airbag deployment nearly caused me to lose control the vehicle because it was so loud and unexpected.

Honda is not honoring their commitment to make service available for the recalls on this vehicle, which includes the Takata airbag. I am attempting to make an appointment at my local Honda Dealer Paragon Honda in Woodside, NY on 6/28. There are no service appointments available through the end of December. I had the same problem about two years ago when I attempted to speak to a person at the dealership. They have made this impossible. Because I live in NYC it is not reasonable to commute to the next closest dealer because that would require bridges and tolls. This is unaccaptable.

NOT A COMPLAINT BUT I HAD MY PASSENGER AIRBAG REPLACED JUNE 26, 2015. RECEIVED A NEW RECALL IN JULY 2015 BUT WAS TOLD IT DID NOT APPLY THAT IT WAS COVERED IN THE JUNE 2015 REPAIRS. JUST NEED TO VERIFY IF THE RECALL IS A RECALL OF THE RECALL. CONFUSED YET?

I WAS INVOLVED IN A HIGH SPEED MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON CA980. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I BROUGHT MY HONDA CRV IN FOR RECALL FOR THE AIRBAGS IN ~JAN 2020 TO GET THIS RECALL FIXED, SO I DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO SMART HONDA DES MOINES (11206 HICKMAN RD, DES MOINES, IA 50325, 515-253-3040) TO BE SERVICED FOR THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS THEN INFORMED THAT DUE TO A DEFECTIVE STUD, THE ENTIRE AIR BAG MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO ORDER THE PART FROM ANOTHER DEALER; HOWEVER, THE DEALER WOULD NOT RELEASE THE PART. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO RETRIEVE THE NEEDED PART FROM VARIOUS DEALERS AND MANUFACTURERS, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE DEALER DID NOT PROVIDE AN OFFICIAL TIMEFRAME AS TO WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. The contact purchased a 2004 Honda CR-V. The vehicle was a private sale on July 17, 2025. The contact stated that after obtaining the Carfax Report, the contact noticed that the previous odometer reading indicated that the mileage was 300,000. The contact stated that the seller's advertisement indicated that the vehicle had low mileage. In addition, the contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased, the odometer indicated the mileage was 124,000. The seller was not made aware of the issue.

The contact owns a 2004 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V573000 (Electrical System) however, neither the VIN nor the year, make, or model was included. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 318,370.

The locking actuator gradually started going, where the locking knob would go down or up slowly as if it was stuck. Then one day the rear doors stopped working, then the front doors started to go. I have to unlock by key or manually inside the vehicle. Not only that though, I started having a weird not start situation. I tested the alternator and starter and were in good margin so I replaced the battery and it worked for a day then wouldn't start up the next day. All the interior lights are off just in case there was some sort of parasitic outlet that is constantly draining the battery. Ive gone through 3 batteries and was about to replace the starter in case there was a bad cell until I found out that the 2004 honda crv community has 600+ complaints for the door actuators draining the battery for this vehicle. There should be a recall and this should be covered at 100% or at least a percentage.

Front and rear driver side windows stop working after heavy rain. There was a safety recall for this, however my VIN is not included but I believe it should be.

MY 2004 HONDA CR-V'S AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING ON THE AFTERNOON OF 9/24/10. THE AIR BLOWING OUT SEEMED TO BE WARM. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT A LOCAL SERVICE STATION TO INSPECT THE A/C FOR THE FOLLOWING MORNING, 9/25/10. THE MECHANIC REMOVED THE LOWER PANEL A/C COMPRESSOR AND SHOWED ME A HOLE THAT WAS CAUSED BY THE A/C COMPRESSOR "EXPLODING" OUTWARD. THERE WERE A FEW METAL SHARD PIECES LEFT IN THE PLASTIC PANEL THAT COVERS THAT AREA OF THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT HE HAD HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING BUT HAD NEVER SEEN IT. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, HIS PARTS SUPPLIER SAID THAT THEY HEAR OF THIS OFTEN. BOTH BELIEVE THERE IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE WITH THE COMPRESSORS. DUE TO THE WAY THAT THE A/C SYSTEM IN THE HONDA IS SET UP, THE ENTIRE THING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FORTUNATELY MY MECHANIC WAS GENEROUS WITH HIS COSTS AND LABOR CHARGES. IT COST $1313.52 TO FIX. I CHECKED ONLINE FOR A RECALL AND CALLED HONDA AMERICA. THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALL BUT I FOUND AN ONLINE DISCUSSION THREAD WITH BETTER THAN 900 COMMENTS OF FOLKS WHO ALL HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THEIR HONDA CR-V A/C COMPRESSORS. While driving down the freeway at 6:00 AM in the morning, the headlights flashed on and then off intermittently. I thought nothing of it and then they went out completely and would not come back on right away. I was driving in complete darkness and thankfully the bright headlights still worked. After this incident, my left headlight completely stopped working and the right-side low beam will come on intermittently. The bulb in the left side appears to be working and I replaced it and it still doesn't come on.

WHILE DRIVING HOME TONIGHT, AFTER DARK, BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO SWITCH THEM TO HIGH BEAM, WHICH WORKED. UPON ARRIVING HOME, SPOKE WITH MY HUSBAND WHO CHECKED AND CONFIRMED THAT BOTH LIGHTS WOULD NOT WORK, BUT NO EVIDENCE THEY HAD BURNT OUT. A CHECK ON THE INTERNED INDICATED THAT NHTSA RECALL # 12V-136 WAS ISSUED. WE HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE NEW AND DO NOT RECALL RECEIVING ANY RECALL NOTICE. I just saw a recall on some 2004 honda crv models about the window switch. Mine went faulty a couple years ago and I cannot use 1 window. The dealer said it was the switch then, but it was somewhere around $1000 to fix so I decided to just not use the window. I just saw the recall and checked my VIN which says itsnot affected. How do I get this fixed? Thank you.

The Air Conditioner began making a loud noise under the hood then it began making a rattling noise. When I turned it on it blew warm air. Now I don’t get the noise only warm air. I took 2004 Honda CR-V to the shop to get checked out. I rec’d an estimate of $1,800. This vehicle’s A/C compressor motor is directly under the motor making it difficult to remove/repair/replace. The clutch engaging the compressor is not working ** due to the heat of the motor. Honda: This is a very poor placement for an A/C compressor.

The headlights on both sides, specifically the low beams, will almost randomly turn off for up to 30 seconds. I used to drive about 90 miles at night, and on the highway this is dangerous since the speed limit is 65mph. It’s a danger to other people on the road since it’s incredibly difficult to see with the headlights turn off like that. It’s happened multiple times on my ~90 mile trips but have not taken it to a dealer for it to be checked. After the headlights come back on, it’s rare that it happens again but has happened multiple times within a quick span of each other. I’m quick to turn the high beams on, since they are still functional during this time. I don’t want to blind the vehicle in front of me by potentially shining the high beams through their rear view mirror. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the problem occurring nor after. The vehicle is available to be inspected.

I HAVE GONE THROUGH 3 SEPARATE RIGHT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS IN THE PAST THREE YEARS, GOT THE RECALL NOTICE FOR A SHORT IN THE HEADLIGHT SYSTEM, HAD IT FIXED, AND YET THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT KEEPS GOING OUT, EVEN THOUGH THE BULB IS NOT BURNED OUT. I WAS GOING TO DRIVE TO WORK THIS MORNING AT 6:30AM AND MY HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN ON. MY HIGH BEAMS WORKED FINE BUT MY NORMAL LIGHTS DID NOT. I HAD NOTICED A BURNING ODOR A FEW DAYS PRIOR THROUGH MY VENTS. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC THIS MORNING AND THE HEADLIGHT PROBLEM WAS DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION AND THE WIRES HAD BEEN MELTED THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE THEN ONCE. I WOULD BE GETTING GAS, AND WHEN THE PUMP CLICKED TO INDICATE THAT IT WAS FULL I WOULD TAKE THE NOZZLE OUT AND THE GAS WOULD COME SPILLING OUT OF THE TANK ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND DOWN THE TIRE. THE GAS OVERFLOWS WHEN FILLING THE TANK. IT LITERALLY FOUNTAINS OUT OF THE TANK. THE GAS RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR ONTO THE TIRES AND BRAKES. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE RISK OF FIRE WHEN THAT GAS HITS HOT BRAKES. I SEE SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM ON VARIOUS WEBSITES, INCLUDING HONDA'S SITE. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2004. I HAD NO PROBLEM FOR A YEAR. THEN SUDDENLY THE GAS OVERFLOWED ONE DAY WHEN FILLING THE TANK. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. OVER THE NEXT FOUR OR FIVE YEARS THE GAS OVERFLOWED SPORADICALLY, PROBABLY 3 OR 4 TIMES OVER FIVE YEARS. I ALMOST ALWAYS USE MARATHON GAS. I DON'T OVERFILL THE TANK. WHEN THE PUMP CLICKS OFF, I TYPICALLY WAIT A SECOND, AND THEN REMOVE THE NOZZLE. I WILL PUT THE NOZZLE BACK ON THE PUMP AND THEN TURN TO PUT THE GAS CAP ON, AND SPORADICALLY, I FIND THE GAS LITERALLY FOUNTAINING OUT OF THE TANK. IN JUNE OR JULY 2009, IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON A VERY HOT DAY AND I WAS EXTREMELY CONCERNED. I DROVE IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND THIS TIME THEY INFORMED ME THAT A VALVE, INTEGRAL TO THE GAS TANK, HAD GONE BAD AND THAT THE ENTIRE TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THAT WAS DONE. ALL WAS FINE FOR THE NEXT 20 MONTHS. BUT JUST LAST WEEK, THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. I AM VERY, VERY CONCERNED ABOUT A POSSIBLE FIREBALL HAPPENING BECAUSE THE GASOLINE FOUNTAINS OUT OF THE TANK, RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR, HITTING THE TIRES AND BRAKES, AND THEN POOLS ONTO THE GROUND. I'VE HAD PROBABLY A HALF LITER OF GASOLINE FOUNTAIN OUT LIKE THAT. PLEASE LOOK AT THE OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN FILED. THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY HAZARD. PURCHASED 2004 HONDA CRV EX 8/04. UPON FILLING THE GAS TANK, GAS SPURTS OUT WHILE PULLING OUT THE NOZZLE FROM THE TANK. I'VE HAD GAS LAND ON MY LEGS AND QUITE A PUDDLE ON THE GROUND. TALKED WITH SERVICES ADVISORS AT HONDA TWICE ABOUT IT AND WAS TOLD THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING -- TRY HOLDING THE NOZZLE IN FOR 3 SECONDS AFTER FILLING -- SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM -- IT DIDN'T! THIS PROBLEM OCCURS EVERY TIME YOU FILL UP. THE ONLY TIME IT DOESN'T IS WHEN YOU DON'T PUT THE NOZZLE ALL THE WAY INTO THE FILLING NECK. The contact owns a 2004 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that after entering the vehicle, the power lock would not engage on the passenger’s side front door. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent however, had gradually become constant and all the door locks failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the battery would be drained by the door lock actuators and had to be replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that the liftgate warning light would be illuminated with the liftgate closed. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that all the door lock actuators needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 14-083 and 14-084 Door Actuators (Latches, Locks, and Linkages). The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

R & M IS MY REGULAR MECHANIC FOR THIS CAR. THE MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 83875. ON NOVEMBER 26, 2009 I NOTICED EXPOSED STEEL BELTS ON THE LEFT REAR TIRE AND EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE OTHER THREE TIRES. THE CAR MILEAGE WAS 92763. I WAS TOLD THIS EXTREME TIRE WEAR WAS THE RESULT OF IMPROPER ALIGNMENT WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE STORE WHERE I BOUGHT THEM. SAW A LARGE, OPEN YARD AND DROVE THE CAR AT HIGH SPEED INTO THE YARD AND TURNED OFF THE KEY. WHEN TURNING THE ENGINE BACK ON, IT STILL RACED AT FULL THROTTLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL NOT DEPRESSED. HAD CAR TOWED HOME AND EVALUATED BY INDEPENDENT (NOT HONDA) MECHANIC. HIS DIAGNOSIS WAS "CARBON BUILDUP IN THE THROTTLE BODY." EMERGENCY BRAKE AND REGULAR BRAKES COMPLETELY RUINED DURING THIS INCIDENT AND IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. TWO GRANDCHILDREN IN VEHICLE WITH ME. EVERYONE TERRIFIED, BUT NO ONE HURT OR INJURED. I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 HONDA CRV WHEN SOMEONE RAN A RED LIGHT. I HIT THE GAS AS HARD AS I COULD AND THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING TO RED LINING EVEN AFTER I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. The ominous P1349 code indicated an issue with the Variable Timing Control (VTC) actuator, a crucial component for maintaining optimal engine performance. Just two years ago, I replaced the VVT solenoid, investing time and resources to ensure my vehicle’s reliability. Yet, here I was again, grappling with the same frustrating problem that, in a split second, nearly caused a catastrophic accident with a speeding truck tailing closely behind me. With my heart pounding and adrenaline surging, I managed to steer my CR-V into the emergency lane, narrowly avoiding disaster. In my quest for answers, I discovered that I’m not alone in this struggle; many other Honda CR-V owners have reported similar incidents of sudden engine shutdowns while driving on the highway. This alarming trend raises serious safety concerns, highlighting the urgent need for a major recall to address the underlying issues with the software and the VVT solenoid assembly. I find myself pondering whether Honda made significant redesigns to the VVT system in models post-2006 to rectify the issues faced by earlier versions, all without triggering the need for a recall. It’s a troubling thought, but one that underscores the importance of safety in our vehicles as we navigate the roads.

ON INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE JOB INVOLVED REPLACING THE COMPRESSOR,THE CONDENSER,RECEIVER/DRYER,EXPANSION VALVE, CONTAMINATED DRIVE BELT, COMPLETE FLUSH OF THE SYSTEM, EVACUATION AND RECHARGE OF SYSTEM. The rear trailing arm broke loose from the frame causing the wheel to twist back into the wheel well. It is now at my garage and could be inspected. This happened at about 45 miles per hour causing me to take evasive action so as not to cause an accident. There was no warning lamps affiliated with the suspension system.

The rear trailing arm became detached from the unibody due to rust/rot. This caused the rear tire to shoot sideways and backwards causing the vehicle to no longer be drivable. The vehicle has spent its life in Wisconsin, New York, and Vermont. As it happened on the road close to my house it was not assessed by any service center, but it is very obvious what happened. I pulled the vehicle back to my house myself. I can provide pictures as proof and I still have the vehicle in my possession (it has obviously been taken off the road). My problem is exactly what is described in the most recent Honda CRV recall NHTSA#23V228 or Honda #XDZ. Since my CRV is a 2004 it apparently does not qualify for the above recall... but it very obviously is the same thing and really should be covered by Honda. If they issue a recall on a certain year range but that same issue happens on a different year are we just supposed to sit back and say "oh well"? My family could have been very hurt if that component broke while the vehicle was on the highway. There has to be someone who can help with this. All that I've gotten from Honda is "your vin doesn't match the recall". I realize this... but the SAME EXACT ISSUE happened to my 2004 CRV. Now I have a vehicle that should be worth $4,000+ worth absolutely nothing unless I scrap it out... This is a known design flaw

2004 HONDA CR-V. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A POTENTIAL FAILURE OF THE POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE POWER WINDOWS. HE IMMEDIATELY CONTACT THE DEALER AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR 9.5 HOURS, AND WHEN HE RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK, IT WAS AFTER DARK, SO HE DIDN'T NOTICE UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING, THAT THE POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH UNIT WAS LOOSE, NOT SEALED PROPERLY AND WAS ELEVATED OUT OF ITS NORMAL HOUSING BY 3.8 INCH. IT WAS NOT SEALED WITHIN THE DOOR AS SECURELY AS BEFORE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER, BUT THE SWITCH STILL APPEARED IMPROPERLY SEALED AND BULGED UP FROM THE DOOR HOUSING. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THE RECALL REQUIRED THAT THE POWER MASTER SWITCH BOX BE STUFFED WITH INSULATION AND THEN THE POWER MASTER SWITCH UNIT NEEDED TO BE FORCED BACK INTO THE BOX TO PREVENT WASTER FROM LEAKING INSIDE. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE REASON FOR THE RECALL WAS BECAUSE WATER COULD CAUSE THE WIRES OF THE POWER MASTER SWITCH UNIT TO SHORT-CIRCUIT POTENTIALLY CAUSING A FIRE AND HE FURTHER STATED THE POWER MASTER SWITCH UNIT WOULD NOT FIT AS IT DID BEFORE THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED STUFFING THE POWER MASTER SWITCH UNIT HOUSING WITH INSULATION AND FORCING IT BACK INTO POSITION SO THAT IT WAS NOT SEALED AS SECURELY AS IT WAS BEFORE THE RECALL WAS NOT SAFE. THE SWITCH UNIT IS NOW MORE PRONE TO WATER EXPOSURE, SHORT-CIRCUIT AN FIRE. THE CONSUMER STATED HONDA SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE ENTIRE POWER MASTER SWITCH INSULATED IN ITS BOX AS A SINGLE WATERPROOF-SEALED UNIT.

WHILE DRIVING IN WARM AND VERY WET WEATHER I HEARD A LOUD POP AND THE AIR CONDITIONER ON THE 2004 CR-V STOPPED BLOWING COLD AIR. IN ORDER TO SEE THROUGH THE FOGGED WINDOWS WE HAD TO RUN THE WIDOW DEFOGGER ON HIGH, BLOWING HOT AIR FOR THE REMAINING 3 HOURS OF OUR ROAD TRIP. WE WERE MISERABLE, TO SAY THE LEAST. UPON RETURNING TO HOUSTON I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC ,WHO ELEVATED IT AND SHOWED ME THE AIR COMPRESSOR. THE HOUSING OF THE COMPRESSOR IS SHATTERED. IT LOOKS LIKE A HARD-BOILED EGG SHELL AFTER BEING CRACKED. THIS IS A FAULTY PART, WHICH I'M TOLD WILL COST $700 FOR JUST THE COMPRESSOR. BEGINNING APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF PURCHASE, MY MOON ROOF BEGAN TO RATTLE WHEN DRIVING, BOTH OPENED AND CLOSED. I TOOK IT TO MY HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED A BOLT. APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS LATER, IT HAD WORKED ITSELF OUT AGAIN BUT THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE THE TIME TO ADDRESS IT ON THAT VISIT. I TOOK IT BACK 2 WEEKS LATER AND THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE MOON ROOF MECHANISM. THREE MONTHS LATER, I RETURNED WITH THE SAME RATTLE AND THEY TIGHTENED THE BOLT AND SAID NOTHING ELSE COULD BE DONE, THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. I LODGED A COMPLAINT WITH THE HONDA CORPORATION AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT HONDA DEALERSHIP, LIE TO THEM AND TELL THEM THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IT WAS GOING TO BE ADDRESSED AND SEE WHAT THEY THOUGHT. I DID NOT LIE TO THEM, BUT THEY HEARD THE RATTLE. The contact owns a 2004 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while rolling down the driver's side window, smoke briefly emanated from the window switch, prompting the contact to roll up the window, after which the window switch lost functionality. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V768000 (Visibility, Electrical System) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 195,000.

The contact owns 2004 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that after entering the vehicle, a spark emitted from the driver’s side master switch as he attempted to roll down the window. Since the failure, the front passenger’s window had failed to operate as needed. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V768000 (Visibility, Electrical System) however, the recall was for the same model vehicle that he previously owned. The contact called the dealer and the manufacturer who confirmed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

SUMMARY: WHILE DRIVING, THE MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH OVERHEATED AND BEGAN TO EMIT A STRONG BURNING ODOR. AFTERWARDS THE LEFT REAR WINDOW FAILED TO OPERATE. SINCE I INITIALLY DID NOT KNOW WHERE THE ODOR WAS COMING FROM, I WENT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIND THE SOURCE OF THE ODOR BUT THEY COULDN'T. AFTER SNIFFING AROUND, I FOUND THE SOURCE OF ODOR, THE MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH. I HAD THE DEALER REMOVE THE FUSE FOR SAFETY REASONS. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH MY SEAT BELTS. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY ARE WORKING AS DESIGNED. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT HONDA WOULD AGREE SEAT BELTS THAT DO NOT RECOIL WHILE THEY ARE ON YOU DRIVING AND SEAT BELTS THAT KEEP YOU FROM BREATHING ARE DESIGNED THAT WAY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING. THEY ARE HOW THEY ARE. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN JANUARY 2004. IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE FRONT SEAT BETS INTERMITTENTLY DO NOT RECOIL WHILE DRIVING AND ALMOST ALWAYS AFTER RELEASING THEM TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THEY ARE PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE ESPECIALLY WHILE DRIVING. THE CONCERN IS IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT THEY MIGHT NOT ENGAGE. SOMETIMES I CANNOT GET THEM TO ENGAGE BY MANUALLY PULLING ON THEM WHILE IN THE CAR. I OWN A 2004 HONDA CRV AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE SEAT BELTS FOR OVER 20,000 MILES. BOTH FRONT SEAT BELTS LOCK WHEN THEY SHOULD NOT AND WILL NOT RETRACT UNTIL THEY HAVE BEEN UNFASTENED AND PULLED ALL THE WAY OUT AND RE-INSERTED INTO THE BUCKLE. AT WHICH POINT IT HAPPENS AGAIN, AND AGAIN. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AT LEAST 4 TIMES WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT AND ALL THEY DO IS LUBRICATE THE BELTS AND SAY THEY "CANNOT RE-PRODUCE THE PROBLEM." I ALSO CALLED AMERICAN HONDA COMPANY TO FILE A COMPLAINT, AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING IF THE DEALERSHIP CAN'T RE-PRODUCE THE PROBLEM. WHICH IS BULL, AS I BROUGHT THE SERVICE WRITER OUT AND SHOWED HIM EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS. NOW THE SRS LIGHT IS ON THE DASH INDICATING THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH EITHER THE SEAT BELT TENSIONERS AND/OR AIR BAGS. I DRIVE A 2004 HONDA CR-V WHICH APPEARS TO HAVE AUTOMATIC LOCKING RETRACTORS ON THE SEAT BELTS. I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AND THE BIGGEST, NOW 4 1/2, HAS JUST MOVED INTO A BOOSTER SEAT. BECAUSE THE SEAT BELTS RETRACT AUTOMATICALLY, GETTING TIGHTER AND TIGHTER WITH EVERY MOVEMENT, MY CHILD ALREADY GOT TERRIFIED WHEN SHE WAS PINNED BACK IN HER SEAT BY THE SEAT BELT, WITH HER CHEST SMASHED INTO HER BOOSTER SEAT. WHILE DRIVING, THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO TO ASSIST HER. ALSO, ALTHOUGH I PURCHASED AN EXCELLENT CAR SEAT, THE AUTOMATIC RETRACTION OF THE SEATBELT MEANS THAT EACH TIME I NEED TO GET MY CHILD IN AND OUT OF THE SEAT, I MUST FIRST UNTHREAD AND THEN RETHREAD THE SEATBELT THROUGH THE SEAT'S GUIDES, CREATING AMPLE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO INCORRECTLY. ON FEBRUARY 20, WHILE DRIVING ON THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY OUR CAR SHIMMIED AND THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SIMULTANEOUSLY, MY WIFE HEARD A SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. WE QUICKLY PULLED ONTO THE EXIT (JUST SOUTH OF BUFFALO) INTO AN AUTOMOBILE REPAIR SHOP THAT WAS RIGHT OFF THE EXIT RAMP. WHEN WE PULLED INTO THE REPAIR SHOP, THE CAR STALLED. A QUICK DIAGNOSIS BY THE REPAIR SHOP CONCLUDED THAT THE ISSUE WAS NOT REPAIRABLE THAT DAY AS THE SHOP WAS CLOSING IN 15 MINUTES. ON MONDAY, THE REPAIR SHOP REPORTED THAT THE SPARK PLUG IN CYLINDER 2 HAD BLOWN OUT. TO ATTEMPT A FIX, THEY INSERTED A HELI-COIL AND PLUG BUT WERE STILL UNABLE TO GET THE PRESSURE ABOVE 40 P.S.I ON THE CYLINDER. A DEEPER DIAGNOSIS INDICATED SCOURING/SCARRING ON THE CYLINDER 2 BORE AS WELL AS THE CYLINDER HEAD CAUSED BY THE SPARK PLUG DEBRIS. I WAS TOLD THE ONLY COST EFFECTIVE FIX FOR THIS WAS TO GET A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. TO GET ANOTHER OPINION, I CONTACTED A LOCAL HONDA DEALER IN THE BUFFALO AREA (RAY LAKS) AND THEY CONFIRMED OVER THE PHONE THAT SCARRING ON THE CYLINDER SLEEVE WOULD REQUIRE A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. THE PLUGS THAT WERE ON THE CAR WERE THE OEM FACTORY INSTALLED. I HAD PLANNED ON REPLACING THESE AT 110,000 MILES PER THE HONDA MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. MY CAR HAD 105,713 MILES WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. I AM THE ORIGINAL AND ONLY OWNER OF THIS AUTOMOBILE. THE FIX WAS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE. ON AUG. 20TH I TOOK MY '04 CR-V TO THE HONDA DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FOR ITS 5,000 MILE SERVICE, INCLUDING ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE. THE NEXT DAY, AFTER DRIVING IT FOR SEVERAL MILES AND STOPPING TO GET GAS, I NOTICED A BURNT ODOR. I POPPED THE HOOD AND NOTICED A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING UP FROM THE BACK OF THE ENGINE. I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED OIL DRIPPING FROM SEVERAL LOCATIONS. I RETURNED THE CR-V TO THE DEALER. THEY EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A "DOUBLE-GASKET" - THE GASKET FROM THE FACTORY-INSTALLED OIL FILTER HAD STUCK IN PLACE WHEN THE OIL FILTER WAS REMOVED, AND A NEW OIL FILTER AND GASKET WAS INSTALLED OVER THE OLD GASKET, RESULTING IN AN OIL LEAK. AMID MANY APOLOGIES, THE OLD GASKET WAS REMOVED AND THE OIL CHANGE WAS PROPERLY COMPLETED. HAD I BEEN LESS ATTENTIVE TO THE VEHICLE AFTER THE OIL CHANGE, AND HAD THE VEHICLE BEEN DRIVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THERE WAS A VERY GOOD POSSIBILITY THAT A FIRE WOULD HAVE RESULTED. WHY DID NHTSA CLOSE THEIR INVESTIGATION OF THE CR-V FIRES? WHY DID HONDA LAY THE BLAME ON TECHNICIANS? WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE SPEED FROM 40MPH, GAS PEDAL STUCK IN DEPRESSED POSITION AND RPM STUCK AT 4-5K. UNABLE TO USE BRAKE APPLICATION AND EFFORTS TO UNSTICK GAS PEDAL FAILED. THE ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO TURN IGNITION AND SHUT ENGINE OFF. HONDA REFUSED TO CORRECT THE DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM FOR 2002 TO 2006. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR ONLY TO 2007 TO 2009 WHICH HAVE THE SAME KIND OF PROBLEM. FOR SECOND TIMES, I WAS STUCK BECAUSE THE DRIVER DOOR LOCKED AND CANNOT OPEN AND THEN FORCED MYSELF TO EXIT THROUGH THE PASSENGER DOOR. MY MAJOR CONCERN FOR MY SAFETY REASON IN CASE IF INTO ACCIDENT OR ELSE. HONDA DEALER WANTS OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS TO REPLACE PARTS FOR BOTH FRONT DOORS. I HAD TAKEN MY SON TO A LOCAL PARK FOR BATTING PRACTICE AND WHEN WE WERE READY TO LEAVE I HAD ASKED MY SON PUT THE BAT AND BALLS IN THE TRUNK OF THE 2004 HONDA CRV. WHEN MY SON HAD PULLED THE HANDLE TO OPEN THE TRUNK, INSTEAD OF SWINGING OPEN, THE TRUNK HAD FALLEN OFF AS THE HINGE PIN BROKE. THE DOOR FELL DOWNWARD, SUSTAINED A LEFT A SIGNIFICANT SCRATCH ON HIS LEG. RECENT (MAY 15, 2012) REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY TO MY 2004 HONDA CRV BY HOEHN HONDA IN CARLSBAD, CA HAS CREATED WITHIN 5 MILES OF DRIVING A SEVERE SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM. THE "IDLE" SPEED IS NOW 2,800 RPM. THE CAR ACCELERATES AND TRIES TO OBTAIN A SPEED THAT MATCHS AMOST A 3,000 RPM LEVEL. A DRIVER WITH LESS THAN MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE COULD EASILY LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS IN ITS REPAIRED CONDITION BY THE DEALER.

MY AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER EXPLODED. I TURNED ON THE AIR CONDITIONER AND AT FIRST HOT AIR WAS COMING THROUGH..THEN NOTHING. TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER IN MANASSAS AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER EXPLODED AND THERE WERE SMALL METAL PIECES THROUGHOUT THE LINE. THEY WANTED OVER $4000 TO REPAIR IT. THEY LATER COUNTER OFFERED TO FIX IT FOR $2600. AFTER I DID RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR CRV'S 2002-2004. ON 11/24/04 I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE WHEN MY ENGINE AND BATTERY LIGHTS SUDDENLY CAME ON. I FELT AS IF MY BREAKS WERE NOT GOING TO WORK. I PULLED OFF AT THE NEAREST EXIT TRYING TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO ASSESS THE SITUATION. AS I GOT OFF THE EXIT, SMOKE BEGAN TO BILLOW INTO THE CAR FROM THE VENTS. A MAN APPROACHED ME FROM BEHIND AND INFORMED ME MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. I DIDN'T REALIZE IT UNTIL THAT MOMENT. APPARENTLY, IT HAD BEEN SHOOTING FLAMES OUT FROM THE FRONT WHEEL WELLS. MY CAR HAD ABOUT 15,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. MY OIL CHANGE WAS FOUR MONTHS EARLIER WITH NO SIGNS OF ANY OIL LEAKS PRIOR TO THE FIRE. THE FUMES CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ASTHMA ATTACK, EVEN AFTER THE FIRE WAS OUT AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A HONDA BODY SHOP. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO MY HONDA CR-V 2004 STALLED IN A CAR WASH AND WOULDN'T START. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED. SINCE THEN MY CR-V HAS HAD TROUBLE STARTING. I'VE ALSO NOTICED MY HEATER NOT WORKING AS EFFECTIVELY AND JUST RECENTLY THE CAR STARTED TO OVER HEAT. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY. ON AUGUST 20TH, 2007 AT 7:30 AM WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY 16 YEAR OLD SON TO SCHOOL MY 2004 HONDA CRV BEGAN TO SPEED UNCONTROLLABLY. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP THERE WAS A THROTTLE CABLE MALFUNCTION THAT LED TO THE CARS UNCONTROLLABLE SPEEDS OF UP TO 80 MILES AN HOUR. THIS WAS THE MOST HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER ENDURED. WHILE ON THE FREEWAY I WAS FORCED TO WEAVE IN AND OUT OF CARS ALL WHILE HAVING BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE. AFTER DECIDING TO APPLY THE HAND BRAKE WE DECIDED TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY. WE RAN ONE STOP SIGN AND BEFORE COMING TO A DEAD END STREET THANKFULLY WE MADE AN ABRUPT STOP AFTER BEING FORCED TO JUST TURN OFF THE CAR. THIS WAS AFTER HAVING MY SON CALL A FRIEND FOR HELP AND ADVICE. MY SON AND I WERE COMPLETELY SHOCKED THAT NOTHING WORSE CAME OF THIS. THANK GOD THAT NO ONE WAS HARMED IN THIS INCIDENT. ON MAY 15, I TOOK MY 2004 HONDA CRV TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE. MY DAUGHTER PICKED UP THE CAR 2 HOURS LATER AND DROVE 1-2 MILES WHEN PASSERAGES IN NEARBY CARS BEGAN BLOWING THEIR HORNS AND TELLING HER TO GET OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS ON FIRE. MEN IN THE CAR BEHIND CALLED THE FIRE DEPT. AND BEING MECHANICS CHECKED THE OIL. IT WAS "BONE DRY." FIRE DEPT. CALLED FOR SAND TO BE LAID. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY HAD CLEANED IT UP BY THE TIME I GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY WANTED ME TO GET IN THE CAR AND FEEL SAFE ABOUT MY NEW CAR WHICH HAD 3800 MILES. THEIR ANSWER TO WHY THIS HAPPENED WAS THAT THEY HAD LEFT THE OLD OIL GASKET ON AND HAD PUT THE NEW ONE ON TOP. IT HAD BLOWN OIL OUT THE TAILPIPE. I LEFT THE CAR THERE FOR 6 WEEKS WHILE I SOUGHT LEGAL HELP, HAD INDEPENDENT MECHANICS CHECK IT OUT, SENT OIL SAMPLES AND FILTER TO INDEPENDENT LABS FOR TESTING. DURING THIS TIME I CONTACTED HONDA COPORATION, LOCAL TV STATIONS, AND MADE NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS TO THE DEALERSHIP. I REQUESTED A NEW CAR AND TO HAVE THE SERVICE PLAN WHICH I HAD PURCHASED TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. TWO WEEKS AGO, THE DEALERSHIP DID AGREE TO ISSUE ME A 72 MONTHS/100,000 MILE WARRANTY AND THEY DID REFUND MY SERVICE PLAN SO THAT I MAY PURCHASE IT FROM ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. WHEN YOU LOOK ON HONDA'S WEBSITE TO CHECK FOR RECALLS NO OTHER ISSUES COME UP WITH MY VIN#, YET IF YOU LOOK THE VEHICLE UP BY THE MODEL AND YEAR, A WHOLE LIST OF "CAMPAIGNS" COME UP UNDER THIS VEHICLE. MY VEHCILE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE SAID MAKE AND MODELS FOR YEARS. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HONDA AMERICA (CASE # 04205532) THIS MORNING AND SPOKE WITH "SERINITY" OF THE PRODUCT CONCERN SECTION OF HONDA AMERICA AND BASICLLY SHE IS TELLING ME BECAUSE MY PARTICILAR VEHCILE WAS MANUFACTURED IN JAPAN (VIN # STARTING WITH A "J") THAT NO RECALLS APPLY TO ME. BUT YET I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE OF THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR. HONDA BASICALLY HAS STATED THAT THEY CANNOT OFFER ANY HELP ON THIS MATTER. PLEASE NOTE, THERE ARE OTHER SAFETY "CAMPAIGNS" THAT I NEVER GOT NOTICES, SUCH AS WIRING HARNESSESS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO A NON-DEALER MECHANIC FOR AIR-CONDITIONING SERVICES AND THEY STATED TO ME 2 + YEARS AGO THAT THIS VEHICLE IS KNOWN TO HAVE A MAJOR DEFECT IN THE AC CLUTCH ON THE AC PUMP WAS DESIGNED TOO CLOSE TO THE ENGINE AND THUS HEATS UP AND SHATTERS INTO MANY PIECES AND FLOWS THOUGH THE WHOLE AC SYSTEM THUS REQUIRING THAT THE WHOLE AC SYSTEM IS REQUIRED TO BE REPLACED (HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN # 12-072). HONDA HAS ISSUED A CAMPAIGN INCREASING THE AC SYSTEM WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS/ 100,000 MILES, BUT AGAIN THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE, YET I HAVE THE SAME EXACT ISSUES ON MY VEHICLE. I WAS DRIVING THROUGH MY AREA AT OR NEAR 15 MPH. WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN TO A SPEED OF 30-35 MPH. THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT VERY STIFF AND WAS DIFFICULT TO HOLD THE CAR AT 30 MPH WITH CONSTANT BRAKING. THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AND THE INCIDENT OCCURRED NOT FAR FROM MY HOME, SO I PROCEEDED BACK HOME. THE CAR WOULD NOT DECELERATE. I HAVE A VERY LONG DRIVEWAY THAT I PULLED INTO, PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, TURNED OFF THE KEY AND PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THERE WAS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AS THE ENGINE WOUND DOWN. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. THEY SENT A TOW VEHICLE TO PICK UP THE CAR SINCE IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IT TO THEM. THEY SAID THEY DROVE THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES AND PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTS ON THE VEHICLE FINDING NO PROBLEMS AFTER HAVING THE CAR FOR THREE DAYS. THE INVOICE HOWEVER SHOWED IDENTICAL MILEAGE IN AND OUT OF THEIR FACILITY WHEN IT WAS PICKED UP JAN. 2, 2014. ON FEB. 11, 2014, I WAS IN TRAFFIC STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, MY RIGHT FOOT PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. WITHOUT WARNING THE ENGINE REVVED, THE BRAKE PEDAL STIFFENED AND THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD HITTING THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, DOING DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES. BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND HONDA OF AMERICA HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED AND A CLAIM HAS BEEN FILED. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX 55 TO 60 MPH ON THE FWY. I WAS ALSO SPINNING AND FISHTAILING AND THE BACK END OF MY CR-V (PASSENGER SIDE) HIT THE BACK END OF THE DRIVER SIDE OF A SEDAN IN THE #3 OR #4 LANE. THAT IMPACT SENT MY CR-V STRAIGHT INTO THE CEMENT CENTER DIVIDER OF THE FREEWAY. I HIT THE CENTER DIVIDER HEAD ON AND WENT UP AND IT FELT LIKE I WAS GOING TO GO OVER IT ONTO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREEWAY BUT MY CR-V CAME BACK DOWN RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CENTER DIVIDER WITH THE SMASHED UP BUMPER FACING THE CENTER DIVIDER. MY CR-V HIT THE CENTER DIVIDER HARD ENOUGH FOR MY BODY TO BEND THE STEERING WHEEL BACK. NOT ONE OF MY 4 AIR BAGS WENT OFF. I HAD THIS CR-V IN THE HONDA DEALER 14 DAYS EARLIER TO REPAIR THE AIRBAG RECALL (I HAVE ALL OF THE PAPERWORK DETAILING THIS) I HAVE PICTURES OF THE INJURIES FROM HITTING AND BENDING THE STEERING WHEEL. ON 5/24/2011, AS I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, MY 2004 HONDA MODEL CR-V EX-L, WITH A LOUD NOISE CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. I LATER LEARNED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM OF THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE HAD BROKEN OFF AND CAUSED THE FRONT RIGHT AXLE TO SNAP OFF AND THE TIRE BECAME DETACHED FROM THE BODY OF THE CAR. THE INSURANCE COMPANY GEICO, HAD THE ADJUSTER LOOKING AT THE CAR, ON 5/25/2011 AND HE DETERMINED THERE HAD BEEN NO COLLISION, NO UNRELATED DAMAGE TO CAUSE THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. THE CR-V WAS TOWED TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAVE HAD THE CAR SERVICED , I HAVE ALL MY RECORDS. IN 2010, I WENT TO FIRESTONE TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE, ALL OTHER SERVICES WERE DONE AT HONDA. THE HONDA INSPECTOR LOOKED AT THE CAR AND DETERMINED THERE WAS NO DEFECT, THE CAR WAS OLD AND THIS WAS THE RESULT FOR SUCH DAMAGE TO THE CAR. I REPORTED MY COMPLAINT TO HONDA, COMPLAINT # [XXX]. EVERY HONDA REPRESENTATIVE, I SPOKE TO, TELLS ME THAT THE CAR IS OLD, AND THIS SORT OF DAMAGE IS TO BE EXPECTED. AT THE TIME THAT THE HONDA INSPECTOR, SAW THE CAR, HE ASKED ME IF ANYONE ELSE HAD WORKED ON THE CAR, I SAID NO BECAUSE, I HAD ALWAYS USED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO SERVICE MY CAR; LATER ON, I FOUND THAT IN JULY 2010, I DID HAVE AN OIL CHANGE AT A FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AGAIN, AND THE FACT THAT ALL THE HONDA REPRESENTATIVES TELL ME THAT MY CAR IS OLD, AND IT IS TO BE EXPECTED. THE CAR HAD AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT A TOTAL OF 62,342. MILES ON IT. I SHOULD ALSO REPORT THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD TO HAVE 4 SETS OF TIRES CHANGED FROM DATE OF PURCHASE TO 2009. AGAIN, THE HONDA SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT THE SAME LOCATION, TOLD ME THAT SUV'S REQUIRE FREQUENT TIRE CHANGES. THE MASTER CYLINDER OF THIS CAR HAS ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED. PROBLEM: SUDDEN ACCELERATION DUE TO DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. THE IDLE RPMS ARE EXCESSIVE UPON STARTUP AND LEAD TO SUDDEN ACCELERATION DURING BRAKING TO A STOP. BACKGROUND: MALFUNCTION LAMP LIGHT WAS CONSTANTLY TURNING ON AND OFF. TOOK THE CAR TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY ONLY FOUND THE ERROR CODE FOR THE O2 SENSOR. I WAS DRIVING A NEW 2004 HONDA CR-V, STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND THEN TURNED LEFT ONTO A ONE WAY STREET. I SAW AN SUV IN FRONT OF ME AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. NOTHING HAPPENED. I HIT THE VEHICLE IN THE REAR. THAT VEHICLE WAS KNOCKED FORWARD. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AGAIN. NOTHING HAPPENED. I HIT THE VEHICLE AGAIN IN THE REAR. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. I YANKED MY VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT, AND STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AGAIN. NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STRAIGHTEN AND STOP THE VEHICLE BY PULLING AS HARD AS I COULD ON THE PARKING BRAKE--AND EVEN THEN, I HAD TO PULL IT TWICE, AS FAR DOWN AS I COULD GET IT. THE OTHER DRIVER WASN'T INJURED AND HER VEHICLE HAD DAMAGE ON THE REAR SIDE. MY LEFT KNEE HIT THE DASH AND MY HANDS HIT THE WHEEL AND DASH--SUSTAINING SOME INJURY, AND MY RIGHT ARM WAS BURNED BY THE AIR BAG. MY VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. THE MECHANIC WHO LOOKED AT MY HONDA SAID THAT HE COULDN'T TELL FOR CERTAIN IF THE BRAKES HAD FAILED, OR IF THE THROTTLE WAS STUCK FULL OPEN PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. I OWN A 2004 HONDA CR-V AND I AM IN NEED OF A SEAT BELT EXTENDER FOR A PASSENGER WITH A DISABILITY. I'VE BEEN INFORMED BY MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT HONDA DOES NOT MAKE AN EXTENDER FOR THE CR-V AS "IT'S AGAINST THE LAW". MY PASSENGER CANNOT SECURE THE SEAT BELT WITHOUT AN EXTENDER AND THIS THEREFORE COULD BE/IS A MAJOR LIFE OR DEATH SAFETY ISSUE. OTHER MANUFACTURERS PROVIDE THEM (CHRYSLER, FORD, GM).
