The AWD light came on while the vehicle was in normal operation on October 25, 2025. Two days later, a diagnostic service was done at Bay Ridge Honda (Bay Ridge Honda did not previously worked on my vehicle), and it was determined that the rear differential on my vehicle failed. A differential is quite durable and does not fail easily. The mechanic who performed the diagnostic, stated that it looked like someone tried to repair it. In addition, an independent mechanic confirmed that the damage occurred as a result of improper service at a Honda dealership. Because of the failure, I also noticed the rear of the vehicle seemed to be dragging. The failure occurred after the vehicle had been serviced at authorized Honda dealerships, Plaza Honda and Middletown Honda. Those are the only two places where routine and repair services have been performed on my vehicle. This created a safety hazard because a failed differential can lead to loss of vehicle control, putting the safety and lives of others and myself at risk. I'm concerned that improper workmanship caused the failure. Since I don't know which dealership is responsible, I reached out to American Honda Motor Co, Inc. for assistance, but they have not provided a satisfactory resolution and insisted that I resolve the issue with both dealerships. I'm requesting that NHTSA investigate and document if improper servicing contributed to the differential failure.

VTC Actuator causes engine to rattle loudly at cold start-up for about 2 seconds. The problem has been confirmed by dealer Honda service bulletin 16-012.

The VTC Actuator in several Honda vehicle models from between 2011 and 2015 are known to be defective (as per Honda's technician bulletins). The defective part damages the internal engine components responsible for ensuring the engine's timing. Honda has refused to issue recalls to address this issue faced by millions of Honda vehicle owners. Honda has known about this issue since at least 2011. Honda released a replacement VTC Actuator but the replacement has also been shown to be defective. The issue can cost upwards of $2,000 to repair and Honda continues to sell vehicles with this defect without notifying prospective buyers. I would not have purchased my 2013 Honda CR-V in January, 2024 had I been notified of this serious defect. Please see the attached file for more information.

Engine rattles loudly for 2 seconds on cold start-up. The rattle started in 2021 at 90k miles, used to be intermittent but since 2022 it occurs every cold start-up. Two different mechanics have diagnosed the problem as a VTC defect requiring replacement, based on Honda’s TSB bulletin, which diagnoses the rattle as a defective VTC. No warning indicator lights have ever appeared for this issue. The cost to replace the VTC is $1200. A class action lawsuit has been filed for this very issue (JULY 5, 2023 case 3:23-CV-01238) - it states that a 2011 study showed that the VTC defect can stretch the vehicle’s timing chain and cause premature failure of the timing chain tensioner, and that damage to these internal engine components can cause catastrophic engine failure and lead to accidents. Honda should be held responsible for selling vehicles with defective parts, and owners should not have to pay for these replacements.

The vehicle stutters when travelling 30-35 miles per hour. It has done this since I bought the vehicle. I have taken it to the Honda dealership to correct and to another mechanic. The Honda dealership say it's a problem Honda has not sent a recall on and they don't know how to fix it. It is also a hot topic on many forums regarding this vehicle.

VEHICLE STATIONARY. VARIABLE TIMING CHAIN ACTUATOR (VTC ACTUATOR) STARTED TO GRIND UPON ENGINE STARTS AT 90K. HAD THE VTC REPLACED FOR $700 AND WITHIN A YEAR IT FAILED AGAIN CAUSING THE SAME GRINDING NOISE UPON ENGINE STARTS. DEALER THEN REPLACED THE TIMING CHAIN AND TENSIONERS FOR $1200 SAYING THAT WAS THE ISSUE CAUSING THE NOISE. NEXT MORNING THE CAR IS MAKING THE SAME GRINDING NOISE. TOOK BACK TO DEALER BUT APPARENTLY THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE THE SOUND. VIDEO RECORDED THE SOUND TO SEND THEM. HONDA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE: TSB 16-012 I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN 2013 AND HAVE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED AT HONDA. I SPENT OVER $2000 TRYING TO HAVE THIS FIXED AT THE DEALER AND THE ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED. I WANT TO SELL THIS VEHICLE BUT CAN'T ALLOW SOMEONE ELSE TO BUY A DEFECTIVE CAR.

Driving on hwy at 55. Heard very loud pop and then shattered sunroof blew off. Was NOT near an overpass. No debris from passing vehicles. Dash cam shows this.

After getting my car service at the dealer, I notice my horn didn't Chirp and my lights didn't flash when I locked my doors. Upon investigating this, I noticed my hood was ajar. It was down to what I would call the safety latch. When I fully closed the hood, everything worked fine. I realized then that I had just driven 20 miles at 70 MPH. If the hood had flown up at that speed it would have been catastrophic. I checked to see if there was a warning light to warn that the hood is ajar but there is not. There are warning lights that a door is ajar and the rear hatch is ajar but not the Hood. Since my horn chirp and my light flash didn't work, apparently the car knows the hood is ajar but there is not warning light. On February 5, I was parking my vehicle in a parking lot space. The vehicle lurched forward and hit another parked car causing $925 in damages to that car. I put it into Park and then Reverse and it lurched backwards. I did not have any control over the car. I took it to the North Shore Honda dealer in Glen Head, NY and they were unable to find anything wrong but I know there is a problem and I am very nervous driving the car. There were no warning lamps before or after the incident. I have read on the internet of other people experiencing uncontrolled acceleration of their vehicle.

For the past few months my car vibrates whenever i decrease in speed or change to lower gears. The whole car vibrates. I have brought it to the dealer recently and they advised of faulty transmission after i paid for diagnostic /inspection. There has also been several incidents where the car has been stuck in park. It even happened when i placed the car in park while at a stoplight.

THIS LIGHTING OF THIS VEHICLE IS POOR. THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS SEEM ADEQUATE, BUT THE HI-BEAM LIGHTS ARE NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH. COMPARED TO OTHER CARS, THE HI-BEAMS ARE DIM. REPLACING THE BULBS DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, THE NEW BULBS DO NOT IMPROVE THE LIGHTING.. THIS DEFECT IS MORE APPARENT IN RURAL SETTINGS, IN AREAS WHERE OUTSIDE LIGHTING IS MINIMAL/NONE. IT CAN BE DANGEROUS WHERE DEER/WILDIFE ARE COMMON, AS THE REDUCED LIGHTING LIMITS REACTION TIME. I AM HOPING, THAT BY BRINGING THIS TO YOUR ATTENTION, SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO FIX THE POOR HEADLIGHTS ON HONDA CRVS.. WE HAVE HAD MANY 1990-1991 HONDA ACCORDS THAT DIDN'T SEEM TO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH HEADLIGHTS. WE HAVE A 2006 HONDA CRV, AND NOW OWN A 2013 HONDA CRV. THE HEADLIGHT LAMPS WOULD BURN OUT OFTEN ON THE 2006 CRV FIGURING THE AGE AND ABOUT 250,000. BUT ON CHECKING OUT POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS FOR OUR 2013 LACK OF GOOD LIGHTING AT NIGHT, I FOUND THESE BLOGS ON THE LINKS BELOW. SO THIS IS NOT A NEW PROBLEM AND THE SAFETY ISSUE IS A BIG ONE! I LIVE IN A DARK MOUNTAIN RESORT AREA IN VIRGINIA. ALTHOUGH SOMEWHAT BETTER IN BRIGHTLY LIGHTED CITY STREETS, ON DARKER STREETS AND RURAL AREAS, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE AT NIGHT WHEN MAKING A TURN. BOTH THE HIGH AND LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE SUBSTANDARD AND IT IS REALLY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THIS CAR AT NIGHT. THIS IS NOT JUST MY "OPINION", OTHER PEOPLE HAVE TEST DRIVEN MY CAR AT NIGHT AND FOUND IT TO BE UNSAFE. THE HONDA CR-V HEADLIGHT PROBLEM HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET AND MANY FORMAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN REGISTERED. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO BRING THESE SAFETY CONCERNS TO THE ATTENTION OF MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER AS WELL AS IN A SURVEY RESPONSE SENT OUT BY HONDA CORPORATE. THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS VEHICLE DO NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE ILLUMINATION. WE ARE REVIEWING/CONSIDERING AFTERMARKET LIGHTING TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION. THE LOW BEAMS ONLY PROJECT ABOUT 10 FEET IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE (EVEN WITH THE DRIVING LIGHTS ON) AND THE HIGH BEAMS ARE VERY DIM AND OFFER VERY LITTLE LIGHT IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN TURNING, THERE IS NOT ENOUGH LIGHT TO SAFELY SEE THE SIDE ROAD IF THERE ARE NO STREET LIGHTS. IN RURAL AREAS, THE DIM LIGHTS MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE WILDLIFE SUCH AS DEER SOON ENOUGH TO SAFELY AVOID THEM. MY CRV HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY WERE ABLE TO MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT CUSTOMERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT POOR LIGHTING FOR MANY YEARS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. I HAVE PURCHASED HIGH OUTPUT BULBS AND THE IMPROVEMENT HAS BEEN MINIMAL. I HAVE CALLED HONDA AND ASKED HOW I COULD OBTAIN THE BETTER HEADLIGHTS THAT ARE AVAILABLE IN EUROPE AND BEEN TOLD THAT I CANNOT. I HAVE ASKED IF DRIVING LIGHTS COULD BE LEFT ON WITH THE HIGH BEAMS AND TOLD NO. THE DEALER OFFERED TO INSTALL POST-MARKET NON-HONDA HEADLIGHTS FOR ME BUT HONDA TOLD ME THAT I WOULD VOID MY WARRANTY. HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD ME THAT SHE WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY HEADLIGHT COMPLAINTS HOWEVER MANY COMPLAINTS ARE READILY AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET. SHE TOOK DOWN MY INFORMATION AND ENTERED IT INTO A COMPUTER AND I HAVE HEARD NOTHING BACK - THAT WAS A MONTH AGO. SOMETHING NEEDS DONE ABOUT THESE HEADLIGHTS - SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED AND OBVIOUSLY HONDA DOES NOT CARE. THIS SHOULD BE A SIMPLE FIX AS I KNOW THEY HAVE BETTER HEADLIGHTS FOR THIS VEHICLE IN THE EUROPEAN MARKET.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2013 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was an independent dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 164,000 and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 200,000.

Driver side doesn’t blow hot air. Especially, in winter it has been a problem with fogging windows and windshield. It is very unsafe because of very poor visibility. I see this has been a very common issue with many Honda CRV vehicles. Hope NHTSA will take this seriously. Thank you.

My 2013 Honda crv LX locks keep locking and unlocking by itself replaced drivers side lock actuator still has the same problem replaced with OEM.

Electronic power steering intermittently fails, mostly on low speed turns. Local Honda dealership has had the car two weeks, can’t find any error codes upon investigation. Yet problem still happens.

My Honda CRV- 2013 has door locking and unlocking on its own, mainly located on the passenger side. This happens even when I am driving. My locks will just start locking and unlocking repeatedly like there is a short in the system. This is causing some type of serious drain on my brand-new battery which I just bought 2 weeks ago. Somehow the door locks are causing my entire battery to go Dead. I have had to jump-start my car these past few days! this a serious and defect that is all over the internet.

The contact owns a 2013 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while in a commercial parking garage, a second vehicle crashed into the rear of the vehicle, causing the driver to inadvertently press the accelerator pedal and lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle accelerated forward and crashed into a truck before crashing head on into a pole. During the failure, the vehicle sustained severe front end damage, but no air bags deployed. The contact sustained neck and back injuries, which were treated at the scene and later at the urgent care medical facility. The contact indicated that the vehicle was destroyed and later towed to the home. No police report was taken. The cause of the failure has not yet been determined. The local dealer was notified of the incident. The manufacturer had not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 72,000.

The contact stated that the fumes from the air bag burned his left hand, and he had to seek medical attention. The contact mentioned that his injuries would have been severe had he not been wearing a protectant glove on his hand. The vehicle was towed to the towing lot. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.

IT COULD COME ON TODAY AND NOT HAPPEN FOR A DAY OR SO.THIS IS A SAFETY ITEM AND AFTER REPLACING THE SEAT FRAME AND SEAT WEIGHT SENSOR IT IS STILL COMING ON. NEED YOUR HELP IN GETTING A FIX AS MY WIFE IS SCARED WHEN IN THE CAR.THE LAST WORD FROM HONDA CARE IS THIS IS NORMAL, IF THIS IS TRUE THEN ALOT OTHER HONDA CRVS SHOULD BE HAVING THIS ISSUE. THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTOR ON THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE WERE DESTROYED IN LESS THAN 2,000 MILES AND REPLACED WITH NEW PARTS TWICE FROM DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS. A THIRD SET OF ROTOR AND BRAKE PADS AND A CALIPER WAS INSTALLED AND THEY FAILED WITHIN 2 WEEKS. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 78,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE REAR DRIVER SIDE CALIPER, PADS, AND ROTOR AT 35,000 MILES FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM.

I OWN A 2013 HONDA CR-V WAS VERY HAPPY WITH MY CAR UNTIL MY RECENT FLAT TIRE. DOES ANYONE KNOW THAT THE TPMS (LOW TIRE SENSOR) IS CONNECTED TO THE BRAKES? ME NEITHER. RECENTLY I HAD FLAT TIRE AND HAD THE SPARE PUT ON UNTIL I COULD GET IT REPLACED. ONLY A COUPLE OF DAYS TO THE WEEKEND TO WAIT, SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO TAKE TIME OFF OF WORK. HAD THE TIRE FIXED AND ALL WAS GOOD; TPMS WARNING LIGHT OFF. WELL, THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT. ABOUT THREE DAYS LATER MY BRAKES STARTED FAILING AS I WAS DRIVING. THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE AND JERKING OF THE CAR WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKES. I SLOWED TO ABOUT 15-20MPH AND IT STABILIZED THE CAR. I SLOWED DOWN TO A CRAWL AND HAPPENED TO BE A COUPLE OF BLOCKS FROM A DEALER WHICH IS ON MY WAY TO WORK. GOT THE CAR THERE WITHOUT INCIDENT AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. THE RESULT AFTER THEIR INSPECTION AND FIXING MY CAR WAS: FAULTY TPMS SENSOR. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THE TPMS SENSOR FAILED WHICH CAUSED MY BRAKES TO GO OUT...WHAT, THE TPMS SENSOR IS CONNECTED TO MY BREAKS. SO. WHAT YOUR TELLING ME, MR. DEALER, IS THAT IF ONE OF FOUR TPMS SENSORS GOES OUT, THE BRAKES ON MY CAR WILL FAIL. WHAT THE HELL HONDA. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED. NO ONLY DID MY BRAKES FAIL BECAUSE OF THE TPMS BUT THE DEALER CHARGED ME $500 TO REPLACE THIS SENSOR WHICH RUNS ON A BATTERY AND IS LIKELY TO HAPPEN AT ANY TIME X4, BECAUSE I HAVE FOUR TIRES.

CAR PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 2013. BROUGHT THE CAR FOR AN INSPECTION AT A LOCAL SHOP ON 1/7/17. 18,000 MILES ON THE CAR, WHICH IS MOSTLY GARAGED. SHOWN THAT BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED! HAD IT REPAIRED AT THE LOCAL SHOP. WE ARE IN POSSESSION OF THE WORN OUT BRAKES FOR EVIDENCE. NOTIFIED DEALER (DONALD MOOREHEAD AT MOOREHEAD HONDA IN NEWBURGH NY) AND THE HONDA CORPORATE OFFICE ON 1/9/17. GOT THE RUNAROUND. CASE NUMBER WITH HONDA IS #05592593 GIVEN BY KLIA.

Engine makes rattling sound on cold start-up. VTC actuator found to be defective by Honda mechanic and replaced. Vehicle vibrates/shudders when at a stop. Mechanic also found timing chain was off by one tooth and was fixed. Vibration/shuddering continues despite repairs. Vibration is noticeable on front seats. Concerned about engine and safety as engine causes seats to vibrate.

DESPITE THE NUMEROUS REPAIRS, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT THEN SPOKE WITH HAGERSTOWN HONDA (10307 AUTO PL, HAGERSTOWN, MD 21740) ABOUT THE FAILURE AND WAS REFERRED TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ANY REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE WOULD BE AT HER OWNS EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.

MY COMPLAINT IS THAT HONDA IS REFUSING TO COVER THE COSTS OF KNOWN PROBLEMS IN THEIR VEHICLES. THE ISSUE IS THE VCT ACTUATOR WHICH RESULTS IN A VERY LOUD METALLIC RATTLING ON A COLD START. I HAVE HAD THE VCT ACTUATOR REPLACED TWO TIMES. THEY DIDN'T WANT TO COVER THE SECOND TIME AS IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT THE DEALER FINALLY DID. IT THEN OF COURSE HAPPENED AGAIN. I ALSO HAD A SECOND KNOWN PROBLEM, (JUTTERING, WHICH IS A VIBRATION/SHAKING WHILE DRIVING/ACCELERATING AT LOWER SPEEDS) WHICH THEY FIXED ONCE, AGAIN, IT ALSO CAME BACK. LAST YEAR THE DRIVE SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND NOW ONCE AGAIN, THE VCT ACTUATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AGAIN, THIS IS A KNOWN HONDA PROBLEM THAT THEY REFUSE TO FIX AT THEIR EXPENSE. THIS HAS AFFECTED A LOT OF PEOPLE, JUST READ THE MESSAGE BOARDS WHICH ARE FULL OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, WHY SHOULD WE HAVE TO EITHER LIVE WITH THE RIDICULOUSLY LOUD RATTLING OR CONTINUE TO PAY TO REPAIR A FAULTY ITEM WHICH IS A KNOWN PROBLEM! THE PEDAL RELEASED ON IT'S OWN. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I SEE THAT OTHER OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. IT WAS HEADING TOWARDS THE HOUSE AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AS I INCREASED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE. I SWERVED ONTO THEIR LAWN; EVENTUALLY MAJOR FORCE ON THE BRAKE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. I CHECKED THE FLOOR MAT; IT WAS ATTACHED FIRMLY TO THE FLOOR. I AM SURE I WAS ON THE RIGHT PEDAL; I FELT THE BRAKE AND THROTTLE "FIGHTING" EACH OTHER. THE WEATHER TURNED FRIGID AFTER A UNUSUAL WARM SPELL. AS WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WE STARTED TO GET SOME PRECIPITATION ON THE WIND SHIELD THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE DEFROSTER WAS UNABLE TO KEEP THE DRIVER SIDE WINDSHIELD SAFELY CLEAR. HAD TO PULL OVER SEVERAL TIMES TO MANUALLY CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD. ALSO THERE WAS VIRTUALLY NO HEAT ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER WE BOUGHT IT FROM NEW. THEY TOLD US THE DRIVER SIDE HEATER CORE WAS PLUGGED. I WAS ASTONISHED AS TO THE LOW MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE (15,659), AND IT BEING OUT OF WARRANTY BY 2 WEEKS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION BECAUSE OF THE RAPID RATE AT WHICH IT OCCURS. IMAGINE THIS HAPPENING EVERY 12-15K MILES. APPARENTLY AFTER SEARCHING ON LINE I FOUND THIS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH CERTAIN 2012-2013 MODELS. HONDA ALSO HAS A BULLETIN OUT ON HOW TO TEMPORARILY REPAIR THIS DESIGN FLAW. (BULLETIN #14-063). I KNOW HEATER CORES CAN PLUG UP WITHOUT THE PROPER MAINTENANCE AND CONSIDERABLE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. WINDSHIELD WAS COVERED WITH SO MUCH SALT THAT DRIVING VISIBILITY WAS VERY LIMITED. THE NOZZLES WORKED BRIEFLY AFTER THE CAR WAS EXPOSED TO SUNLIGHT. ONCE THE SUN WENT DOWN, THE NOZZLES NO LONGER WORKED. THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID/LINE APPEARED TO BE FROZEN. IT HAS BEEN VERY COLD WHERE WE LIVE AND 5 DAYS LATER NO WINDSHIELD/REAR WINDOW WASHER FLUID WILL SPRAY OUT OF NOZZLES.THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND MAKES DRIVING VISIBILITY VERY DANGEROUS. I BOUGHT A 2013 HONDA CR-V VEHICLE A FEW MONTHS AGO. I HAVE NOTICE THAT THE SUN VISORS ARE TOO SHORT. I CALL HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE (NATION WIDE) AND THEY SAID NO ONE HAD REPORTED THE PROBLEM AND WANTED ME TO GO BACK TO THE DEALER IN FRANKFORT. I WENT ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND TRIED TO USE AFTER MARKET SOLUTION WHICH IS A VISOR EXTENDER. I AM 5' 8" TALL. While driving the steering wheel will lock up and become unable to be turned. It feels as the power steering goes out. The issue is intermittent and happens during a turn. The problem has been discovered at 0-35 mph and sometimes requires turning the vehicle off and restarting. Often the steering wheel will force itself to a steering wheel "lock" position beyond what the wheel is being mechanically turned to. Vehicle has no outstanding recalls and has had regular service.

THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER AT LOW SPEEDS AND THE STEERING INDICATOR LIGHT WOULD COME ON FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME. THIS NEARLY RESULTED IN ACCIDENTS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE OWNER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER, BUT THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT HE COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE TECHNICIAN THEN ADVISED THE OWNER TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM WOULD RECUR. THE OWNER FOUND THIS ADVICE TO BE UNACCEPTABLE AND QUESTIONED WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN IF THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THE TECHNICIAN THEN ELEVATED THE ISSUE TO THE MANAGER, WHO WAS ABLE TO ISOLATE A TROUBLE CODE. THE OWNER WAS INFORMED THAT NO ONE AT THE DEALERSHIP KNEW WHAT THE TROUBLE CODE MEANT, AND THAT THE DEALER WOULD HAVE TO CONSULT WITH HONDA CORPORATE FOR GUIDANCE. THE OWNER WAS THEN INFORMED THAT HONDA CORPORATE RECOMMENDED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE POWER STEERING RACK. THIS REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AT SIGNIFICANT COST TO THE OWNER. NEITHER THE TROUBLESHOOTING PROCESS NOR THE ASSOCIATED TROUBLE CODE WERE RECORDED ON THE WORK DOCUMENTATION PRESENTED TO THE OWNER. THE VEHICLE STEERING FELT STIFF AFTERWARDS, THEN TWICE EXHIBITED A FAILURE MODE IN WHICH THE STEERING INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING SYSTEM APPEARED TO HIT A PREMATURE HARD STOP PART WAY INTO A LOW-SPEED TURN, FORCING THE VEHICLE WIDE. BOTH OF THESE INCIDENTS NEARLY RESULTED IN ACCIDENTS, BUT THE OWNER QUICKLY SPUN THE STEERING WHEEL TOWARDS CENTER, THEN BACK INTO THE DIRECTION OF THE TURN. THE PROCESS OF RE-CENTERING THE STEERING WHEEL APPEARED TO TEMPORARILY CLEAR THE PREMATURE HARD STOP, AND THE OWNER WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TURN. THESE INCIDENTS OCCURRED DURING LOW-SPEED TURNS (ROUGHLY 10MPH) ON LOCAL STREETS AND PARKING LOTS IN THE AUSTIN AREA. REPAIR INVOICE FOR THE POWER STEERING RACK AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. THIS COMPLAINT WAS FILED BY A FAMILY REPRESENTATIVE ON BEHALF OF THE OWNER.

The contact owns a 2013 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the swing arm bolt had fractured, and the sub-frame was severely corroded. The independent mechanic replaced the swingarm bolt; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the front suspension stabilizer bar had previously been replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 106,467.

The drivers side door is the only key hole available to unlock or lock the car. This key hole is jammed at a diagonal angle and will not accept a key in any way. Thus, whatever state the car is currently in (locked in my case) is the state that it will stay. No professional has checked it out. It is easily inspectable. There were no warnings by the car that this would happen, however, within 24 hrs before the door lock was jammed, the car wouldn't stay locked and would unlock and release the trunk door on its own while unattended.

FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HONDA - THEN PANDEMIC HIT--JUST NOW REOPENING COMPLAINT- CASE#10291529- & AS THIS APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A CONSTANT COMPLAINT FRM MANY OTHERS; HONDA HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN 16-063 TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND SUPPOSEDLY HAVE A REDESIGNED LATCH. IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING ACTUATORS,,,,HAVE REPLACED 4 OF 5 DOORS. EACH REPLACEMENT IS ABOUT $200-$250. I LEARNED THROUGH RESEARCH THAT RECALL WAS IN EFFECT FOR CRV FROM 2007-2011. OBVIOUSLY, HONDA HASN'T SOLVED THE PROBLEM.

Front wheel bearings wore out at approximately 50,000 miles. Steering became difficult and the bearings produced a lot of noise. Both front wheels affected. Dealer replaced bearings and no problems since.

Severe frame rot on driver’s side of vehicle just forward of rear wheel. Rear control arm bolt support location has rusted away. Discovered August 5, 2024 when up on lift for a tire rotation. Garage advised vehicle unsafe to drive. Vehicle has 96,374 miles and is out of warranty. However, Honda issued a recall on 2007-2011 CRVs for same situation where vehicles were repaired or bought back. Vehicle has been inspected by 2 private garages, a Honda dealer, and a Honda collision center to assess repair options. We have been told not to drive the vehicle. I understand the warranty has expired however a failure could result in loss of control and a repair quote from a Honda collision center is $5,871.63. If the vehicle were in an accident insurance company would total it, per Arbella. Instead, we are left to spend more than 2/3 of its trade in value to repair it. It seems that the CRV frame issue was not limited to the 2007-2011 model years, and I believe we should receive consideration from Honda to repair or buy back the for a vehicle. It would appear more CRVs should be inspected for unsafe frame rot, and Honda should be held accountable for a design that does not let road salt and moisture drain.

Now, we have had two seat belts fray without explanation in our 2013 Honda CRV EX-L. In 2018, we contacted the local dealer about the first belt's issues and were told that the belt had been sliced. This determination was made without ever accessing the inside of the belt mechanism and likely was simply said to get rid of us. In 2022, a second seat belt started having the same problem, so we opened a case with American Honda in July 2022. Now, two case managers and three months after opening the case, we have been unable to obtain any true action from American Honda.

My 2013 Honda CRV completely broke down in late August 2025, as I was backing out of my driveway. Our lives were at risk. This could have happened in traffic, causing a terrible collision. My local Honda dealership found the chain guides broken and the timing off, and recommended replacement of several parts (timing chain, guides, tensioner, exhaust cam, rockers, and ... VTC actuator). Initially, they thought the cause was a lack of proper maintenance, specifically, infrequent or improper oil changes. I knew we had taken proper care of our car, so I began investigating. The check engine light was on for at least 2 years (as well as the rattling at start-up), and I had not gotten clarity on it until recently, after consulting with multiple professionals. Finally, a Jiffy Lube tech said it was due to the VTC actuator. I then brought my car to the Honda dealership in July 2025 for an oil change and to discuss the check engine light and VTC actuator issue. At that time, they did not alert me to the VTC actuator defect or the potential for complete engine failure. As I continued my investigation, I found a Honda Service Bulletin starting in 2016 (when my car was still under its three-year warranty) and updated in 2017 (when my car was still under its five-year Power Train warranty) describing the VTC actuator as defective. Had American Honda issued a recall at that time, instead of an SB, and had notified me of this defective part, my warranties in those years would have covered the replacement costs of my VTC actuator and related engine parts. And also been significantly less expensive. Flash forward to this fall 2025: as I continued my investigation, I discovered multiple class-action lawsuits against American Honda for this exact issue—a known defective VTC actuator. It turns out they conducted an internal study in 2011 that found the VTC actuator was defective. Now the dealership believes my car's failure was caused by a defective VTC actuator.

ONE COLD WINTER MORNING, MY ENGINE LIGHT, POWER TRAIN AND STEERING WHEEL WARNING SIGNS ALL TURNED ON. I HAD CHECKED MY OIL AND IT WAS STILL 40% FULL. I STARTED NOTICING THAT THE CAR WAS MOVING SLOW NOT MORE THAN 20MPH. ALSO THE GAS GALLON INDICATOR WENT FROM 36MPG TO 20MPG. IT IS BURNING WAY MORE GAS THAN IT WAS. I STARTED RESEARCHING AND FOUND OUT THAT OTHER CONSUMERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I'M WRITING THIS BECAUSE I WANT OTHER PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEIR HONDA CR-V MODEL. The Honda CRV is skipping/stuttering/juddering when accelerating between 25-45 mph. This has caused an issue when pulling out onto a highway. The mechanic advised me to have the VTC Actuator checked. Looking on line there is not a recall, but there are several safety bulletins and lawsuits connected to this issue. My vehicle was purchased used.

I don't know what's wrong with it, it has been shuddering on low speeds. I just bought it yesterday and I'm devasted that I just got a 16,000 car and the same night I'm driving it and it's doing this. I have done research and this is no doubt a defect in many other people's car. This needs to be addressed how is this not a serious defeat and safety issue. You start off or pull out from a red light and it doesn't want to go, this IS a safety/accident concern. Please respond and please help. Honda has always been one of the best vehicles I have owned 5 in my lifetime, but I seen many many reviews with people pleading for Honda to fix this issue and they are turning their backs...not good for Honda to say the least. THIS SELF-PROPELLING FEATURE WAS NOT MENTIONED IN THE MANUAL (WHICH I DID READ) NOR BY THE DEALERSHIP, WHO LATER TOLD ME THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING WITHIN SPECS AND THIS MOVEMENT WAS TO BE EXPECTED. AFTER POLLING 20 PEOPLE I UNDERSTOOD THERE ARE CARS WHICH 'CREEP' ONCE IN GEAR, SO I BORROWED 3 DIFFERENT VEHICLES TO TEST. FIRST I TRIED MY CAR. FROM A DEAD STOP, I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE AND THE CAR PROPELLED ITSELF AT 7- 14 MPH (900-1200 RPM) FOR 1/2 MILE THROUGH MY NEIGHBORHOOD. I REPEATED THE TRIAL AFTER THE CAR WAS WARMED UP. NO CHANGE. THEN I TESTED A 2014 FORD FOCUS, A 2008 LINCOLN MKZ, AND A 2013 CHEVROLET EQUINOX: SAME ROUTE AND CONDITIONS, NONE MOVED FASTER THAN 2-4 MPH. I LATER TEST DROVE A 2014 CRV AND IT ACCELERATES FASTER THAN MY 2013. I HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE DURING SLOW TRAFFIC BECAUSE THE CAR MOVES BEFORE I FULLY RELEASE THE PEDDLE. THIS MEANS THE BRAKES ARE LIKELY TO WEAR OUT FASTER. I CAN'T BE SURE HOW THIS EFFECTS THE EXPECTED DECELERATION ONCE THE ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED. I FEEL THIS IDLE SPEED IS SIMPLY TO FAST TO BE DEEMED SAFE.

I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A MAJOR ROAD (NOT A SMALL BACK ROAD) WHEN I HEARD A SOUND LIKE A GUNSHOT. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A LARGE HOLE IN MY SUNROOF, WITH SPIDERWEB CRACKING COMING OUT FROM THE HOLE. THE GLASS WAS FLEXED UPWARDS AND CREATED A DOME-LIKE EFFECT. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE 2 HOURS HOME AND IMMEDIATELY WENT TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE MAN TOOK PICTURES AND PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT IF SOMETHING HAD FALLEN ONTO THE SUNROOF, THE GLASS WOULD'VE CRASHED INTO THE CAR, NOT FLEXED UP AND OUT LIKE MINE DID. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE SERVICE MAN CALLED AND SAID AFTER SENDING HONDA THE PICTURES, THEY DECIDED I MUST'VE DAMAGED THE SUNROOF SOMEHOW, CAUSING IT TO CRACK, MEANING HONDA WOULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. WHEN COASTING AT 10 TO 12 MPH, I PRESS LIGHTLY ON ACCELERATOR TO MOVE FORWARD, THERE IS NO REACTION. THE RPM DOES NOT CHANGE, THE CAR CONTINUES AT THE SAME SPEED. Service Bulletin 16-012 was issued for 2013 CRV for the VTC actuator. This is obviously an issue that Honda is aware of but is refusing to fix. I’ve had to replace this part twice at the same interval of time. The first replacement was covered under my warranty however now that I am out of warranty this repair costs almost 3,000$. I contacted American Honda who refuses to provide good will even though they are aware this is a known issue. I was advised that if this wasn’t repaired it would be a safety issue. I believe this should be covered on Hondas dime especially if this has to replaced multiple times at no fault of the customer.

On [XXX] while making a left turn from [XXX] onto [XXX] , my 2013 Honda CR-V began shaking and making a humming noise just before it suddenly shut off in the middle of the intersection, nearly causing a collision. There were no dashboard warning lights or error messages before the failure. The vehicle is currently in the same condition, and the fuel pump remains installed and is available for inspection upon request. No mechanic, dealer, manufacturer, police, or insurance representative has inspected the vehicle since the incident. The tow truck driver who transported the car, based on the absence of the fuel pump sound, suspected the fuel pump was malfunctioning. I replaced the battery following the incident, but the problem persists. While the official recall website indicates no open recalls for my specific VIN, there are two recalls issued for the 2013 Honda CR-V model related to similar fuel pump issues. The contact owns a 2013 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the vehicle drove over a bump in the road and the steering wheel became unstable. The vehicle was driven to the local service center who diagnosed that the rear driver’s side lower control arm on the front suspension mount had separated from the unibody frame due to corrosion. The contact was informed that the entire unibody frame needed to be replaced to repair the control arm. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 158,000. The contact stated that they will no longer need this complaint. They contacted the dealership and they agreed to buy the vehicle and make the situation a fair settlement.

I was checking For a recall because of all the complaints of same issues on honda owners website. The car is becoming unsafe to drive. This is the first effort I have made to research problem. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW. THE CAR CONTINUALLY CHEWS UP TIRES ON THE REAR END OF THE CAR. FOR EXAMPLE, WE PURCHASED A BRAND NEW SET OF TIRES IN JULY OF 2017, AND ALREADY THEY ARE CUPPED/CHOPPED. I HAD THE CAR INTO OUR LOCAL ALIGNMENT SHOP AS WE ARE PREPARING FOR A TRIP, AND LESS THAN 10,000 MILES LATER ARE SO OUT OF BALANCE THAT THEY ARE SHOWING SIGNS AND MAKING NOISE TO THE POINT OF I QUESTIONED WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I SUGGESTED THAT THEY DO A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CAMBER IS WAY OUT OF ADJUSTMENT AND THAT I NEEDED A CAMBER BOLT KIT. THE CAR ONLY HAS 84,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN WELL CARED FOR AND NO ACCIDENTS. HERE IS THE BIGGEST ISSUE. THE CAR COMES STOCK WITH REAR CONTROL ARMS THAT ARE NON ADJUSTABLE. THERE IS NO WAY TO CONTROL CAMBER ON THE REAR WHEELS. THERE ARE ADJUSTABLE ONES THAT CAN BE PURCHASED, BUT THAT COSTS CONSUMERS A TON OF MONEY. $500 OR SO TOTAL THAT IS NOT COVERED BY ANY WARRANTY. THE OBVIOUS DANGER IS EXCESSIVE WEAR ON TIRES THAT POTENTIALLY COULD CAUSE BAD STEERING, BRAKING, AND/OR CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. AS FAR AS MY EXPERIENCE, I HAVE HAD TO BE EXTREMELY VIGILANT ABOUT MAKING SURE MY TIRES ARE NOT IN BAD SHAPE 100% OF THE TIME. THE DEALER HAS BASICALLY WALKED AWAY FROM IT, IN SPITE OF THE FACT I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH IS STILL IN EFFECT. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS REPORTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS VERY SAME ISSUE AND HOW HONDA IS UNWILLING TO ADDRESS OR FIX THE ISSUE. ON MARCH 11, 2017, I WAS TRAVELING FROM FORT LAUDERDALE TO NAPLES FLORIDA ON INTERSTATE 75. I HAD THE CAR ON CRUISE CONTROL AND TRAVELING AROUND 70 MPH. I TOOK THE CAR OFF CRUISE CONTROL AND THEN PRESSED ON THE GAS WHEN THE CAR'S ENGINE DEACCELERATED THE CAR SEVERELY. I PRESSED AND LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AS THE CAR CONTINUE TO DEACCELERATE AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH AN 18-WHEELER. A SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCE HAS ALSO OCCURRED BUT AT 10-20 MPH WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A RED LIGHT AND NEEDING TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND THEN PRESS DOWN ON THE GAS TO CONTINUE. THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN BUT DOES NOT ACCELERATE THE CAR. ON 2/10/2014, AROUND 8:50 AM EST I WAS ALONE AND DRIVING TO THE OFFICE WHEN MY CAR SKIDDED AND I LOST CONTROL. DUE TO THE MOMENTUM THE CAR HAD GAINED, IT WENT INTO A FREE SPIN. THOUGH THIS CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH AWD AND ABS, IT STILL COULD NOT CORRECT THE SKID AND WENT OUT OF CONTROL. IT DASHED AGAINST A TREE ON THE PATHWAY FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE. THIS IMPACT RESULTED IN DRIVER SIDE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY, HOWEVER IT EXPLODED INSTEAD OF INFLATING. THIS INCIDENT HAS RESULTED IN INJURIES TO MY HAND, NECK AND BACK. I HAD LEFT MY OFFICE ABOUT 10 MINUTES PRIOR TO PULLING INTO A SHOPPING CENTER AND WAS DRIVING ABOUT 5 MPH IN THE PARKING LOT, LOOKING FOR A PARKING SPACE. I SAW ONE AND SLOWED DOWN EVEN MORE TO BARELY MOVING, AND WAS EASING INTO THE PARKING SPACE WITH MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE. JUST AS THE CAR STOPPED AND I WAS GETTING READY TO PUT IT INTO PARK, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED UP AND THE CAR JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT A TREE ABOUT 5 FEET IN FRONT OF THE PARKING SPACE AT FULL FORCE. IT WAS LIKE THE ACCELERATOR HAD BEEN PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS TOTALLY STUNNED. THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS SMASHED IN AND RADIATOR FLUID WAS COMING OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED, I WAS NOT TALKING ON THE PHONE; I WAS NOT DRINKING OR EATING ANYTHING IN THE CAR; I DID NOT EVEN HAVE THE RADIO TURNED ON. I WAS NOT IN AN EMOTIONAL STATE; I AM NOT PSYCHOTIC, HOMICIDAL ,OR SUICIDAL. I HAD BOTH HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL AS I HAD JUST MADE A SLOW LEFT TURN INTO THE PARKING SPACE AND WAS BARELY MOVING, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I HAVE GONE ON THE INTERNET TO RESEARCH ANYTHING LIKE THIS OCCURRING WITH OTHER HONDA CRV'S, AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS INCIDENCES CITED INVOLVING THE 2011 AND 2013 MODELS. IT HAPPENS IN VERY COLD WEATHER (FREEZING OR BELOW) , WHILE THE BRAKE IS ENGAGED. IT WAS IN THE LOW 30'S AT THE TIME AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. LUCKILY, THE TREE STOPPED MY FORWARD MOTION, OR I WOULD HAVE ENDED UP DRIVING THRU THE PLATE GLASS WINDOW OF THE UPS STORE. I WENT TO THE DEALER ON 11/11/13. A TECHNICIAN WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND VISIT TO THE DEALER IS ON 11/25/2013. A MASTER TECHNICIAN WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND IDENTIFY THE NOISE DOES NOT COME FROM THE BRAKING SYSTEM BUT FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL SYSTEM.
