FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
50 complaints
Facing the sun, driving through an intersection with a green light. No cars ahead or behind me, and no pedestrians in sight. As I passed under the light, the car slammed on the brakes once, let up a little, and then slammed on the brakes again. It flashed the BRAKE indicator on the dash. Then driving resumed as normal. If there had been a vehicle behind me, it would have rear ended me, no question.

The contact owns a 2020 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there were no other vehicles or objects nearby however, the Forward Collision Avoidance system inadvertently activated. During the failure, the Collision Mitigation Braking System engaged and brought the vehicle to a complete stop. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The Forward Collision Avoidance warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: EA24002 (Forward Collision Avoidance). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

6/14/25 - automatic emergency braking system engaged twice without any impediments in road while driving 40 miles of non-freeway driving. Mileage of vehicle is 30460 miles. AEBS engaged at 45 mph and 50 mph. Scary incidents but no accident or injury today. Concerned about continued driving and future incidents. Will contact Honda dealership. Need to issue a recall.

While driving the vehicle the collision avoidance activated on its own. The brakes automatically applied when I was not near a vehicle in front of me. When over railroad crossing and the system activated. My speed was around 28 to 30 mph. The system slowed me down to 24 mph. This has occurred twice. First occurrence was on [XXX], and second on [XXX]. Dash camera footage inside and outside is available to both occurrences. Ide Honda in Penfield, NY was notified after the first instance. The vehicle was not brought in to have it looked at. The vehicle is scheduled for service on June 12, 2025 at Ide Honda in Penfield, NY. The vehicle seems to get a mind of its own and around turns on the highway or by curved roads with a barrier, the vehicle slows down. This has happened quite a few times in different scenarios.

STEERING
22 complaints
When driving at highway speeds, the steering is sticky and can get locked into a certain position. It can be overcome with moderate effort, but will become dangerous to drive if it gets worse. There are no warning lamps or messages related to this issue. I have taken it to the dealer and they refused to accept manufacturer responsibility for this. I took it to a trusted local independent mechanic who confirmed the issue and estimated it would cost roughly $4K to replace the rack and address the issue. Note that this issue has been identified by many other 2020 CRV owners, and the same issue has prompted a recall on 2023-24 Honda CRV models.
Oct 30, 2025
The steering wheel is sticking when returning to center when slightly turning left at high way speeds 65mph. There is a recall for this same issue on newer models.
Oct 02, 2025
After 4 4/2 years and 26,500 miles the steering became (slightly sticky ) It would take extra pressure to move the steering wheel. It also make clicking and creaking sound while turning at lower speeds 10 MPH or less. The dealer said the entire steering rack needed replacement due to some part that could not be replaced. The the was fine until the steering just started getting tight.
Sep 15, 2025
Sticky steering wheel issue like the recent recall on newer Hondas. This 2020 has about 50k and has recently been flashing the EPS / Steering Wheel light when it occurs. After slowing down the vehicle "behaves" normal
Aug 20, 2025
Although this 2020 Honda CR-V vehicle is not covered by the “sticky steering” recall we are experiencing the same symptoms reported by owners of newer model cars included in the recall. Our dealer says the only fix is to replace the entire steering box at a cost of $3,000. In addition the timeline to get and fix the problem is unknown because the part is on nationwide back order. The car has 60k miles on it. We have just had new tires and breaks installed, a front end alignment and all linkages checked. The problem unfortunately persists. Clearly there is a problem with the steering on this vehicle. We haven’t yet experienced an accident but the car pulls to the left at high speed and takes considerable force to get it corrected. The vehicle could easily veer into traffic in the other or oncoming lane on its own. The ability to recover in time to avoid an accident is questionable. I am unsure if other owners have reported similar problems with this model and year but I believe this is something the agency should be looking into and discussing with the manufacturer. Given the part is on nationwide back order is a clear indicator of a systemic problem

On 6/16/2025 I was driving home and my car dinged and a light came up on my dash All Wheel Drive System Problem and felt funny. I was almost home and when turning off and back on it went off. Two days later I was almost home and the same thing and did not drive right. I got it to a Honda dealer and they determined it was the rear differential pump motor based on the code. They replaced it yesterday and within 5 miles threw another code, which was stated that the full rear differential was needed. After some research of the All Wheel Drive System Problem it appears there are a lot of people out there with CRV's that are having this issue. My vehicle has less than 41,000 miles on it and should not have gone out. I also noticed when I googled rear differential for 2020 CRV's that the NHTSA is reviewing a case for this issue. I am thankful that I have extended warranty and will cover the repairs but I feel that this should be a recall and that Honda should take care of it instead of extended warranty. Please review this issue with CRV's and let me know if a recall is possible to be implemented.

My paint is flaking off. I contacted the dealership and Honda was was told to buy touch up paint. Honda then refused to address it and told me to file a complaint with you if they recall I will be notified.
Jun 06, 2025
All of the warning lights appeared on the dash. Car runs fine and does not impact driving. Battery has been tested and it's in working condition. Now the problem has gone away but this seems like an issue that should be addressed with Honda, at no charge. I looked the problem up online and multiple inquiries from customers. Do the right thing Honda. Treat this has a recall and take care of your loyal customers.

I am filing a complaint against Honda regarding the infotainment system in my Honda CR-V. When I connect an Android device, the system crashes consistently. Despite informing Honda of this issue, their response has been dismissive. They stated, “We tested it with an iPhone and found no problems,” completely disregarding the issue with Android devices. Safety Concern: The infotainment system freezing when an Android device is connected poses a significant safety issue. Functional infotainment is crucial for navigation, hands-free communication, and other essential functions while driving. Frequent crashes disrupt these functionalities, potentially leading to distracted driving and increased risk of accidents. Honda’s failure to address this problem compromises driver and passenger safety. Misleading Advertising: Honda advertises that their infotainment system works with Android devices, which is not my experience. This misleading advertising is deceptive and unfair to consumers. Warranty Information: My vehicle is under a certified warranty, yet Honda has failed to provide the necessary support and repairs to resolve the issue. Desired Resolution: I seek a thorough investigation by the FTC into Honda’s misleading advertising and failure to address legitimate safety concerns with their infotainment system. I also request that Honda be required to fix my vehicle so that the infotainment system works reliably with Android devices. Additionally, Honda should formally acknowledge the problem and improve their customer support and product testing procedures.

The contact owns a 2020 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked next to the home and under the carport. After starting the engine, the husband exited the vehicle, and moments later, flames were present inside the cabin of the vehicle. The fire department was called to the home and extinguished the flames. During the incident, the carport and carport driveway were damaged, the side of the home was damaged, and the home endured smoke inhalation. Also, the contact's personal oxygen tank was located inside the vehicle and was destroyed. The cause of the fire was not determined. A fire report was taken at the scene. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 127,000.

The center display consul keeps changing the display. About 6 months ago it appeared to look like water was in the display. By the time I got to the dealer the screen was clear. I was told to take a picture if it happened again. I had approximately 26,000 miles on the car at the time. About a month later the screen went totally dark. I shut off the car and it restarted with a clear screen. About a month after that it went dark again. Restarting the car did not fix the problem but YouTube suggested a restart, which did fix the problem. Nox the A odometer will not reset. The reset option via the stalk or the dashboard computer option will fix the problem. Also, the text voice volume control will not operate. The car now has approximately 30,000 miles on it. I am going to the dealer tomorrow. This problem should not exist in a 4 year old car with 30,000 miles which I purchase new and have maintained meticulously

Aug 06, 2024
There was an internal failure in the body control module, causing dysregulation of the internal electronic components and battery drainage. The battery was initially changed without effect, and after observation of the electronic component turned on with the vehicle turned off, the vehicle was driven to the shop, where the diagnosis was made. After diagnosis, the part was ordered and replaced within 2 days for approximately $777.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Fuel pump. The mechanic did give me back the fuel pump. Independent mechanic documented repairs following Honda's instructions. There was no warning prior to the fuel pump stopping me dead in my tracks. I was at an intersection coming out of a busy parking lot. I was able to get to my nearby home in limp mode until the car could be looked at by my mobile mechanic. I called Honda and they said go ahead and have the mobile mechanic repair the vehicle.
May 29, 2025
My car's estimated fuel remaining changed from 1/4 tank to dangerously low within a few minutes. It seemed to work ok after I filled it, but my car failed to run when the car insisted that about a quarter tank of fuel was present when I was driving on a highway after dark - I managed to get safely over to the edge before it stopped moving. The repair shop I towed it to checked and found that the fuel pump and attached sensor had failed, in a car that had only 42,961 miles. I would also add that the Honda dealer in Tulsa refused to give me and my husband any kind of estimate over the phone, saying only that the we had to bring the car there for them to inspect, and they were not permitted to give repair estimates over the phone.
Feb 14, 2025
Hi pressure fuel pump stopped working while driving. My mechanic gave me the defective part in case someone wanted to inspect it. At the time of failure, the car suddenly entered "limp" mode and fortunately I was able to pull over to the side. When I tried to get moving, the engine jerked and sputtered to a maximum speed of about 15 mph. All the lights on the dashboard lit up and flashed. Warnings for many different types of problems displayed, but nothing specific about the fuel pump. There were no warnings previous to the sudden part failure. On the phone, my mechanic immediately told me that it was likely a well-known problem with Honda CRV's. He'd repaired other CRVs with the same problem. A Honda agent told me on the phone "yes" this is a common problem. However she said my CRV is not within the range of VIN numbers under recall. Therefore, I am not eligible for reimbursement at this time. That Honda Agent told me to submit my problem through the NHTSA website and then keep checking to see if my VIN number is eventually within the numbers. Once that is the case I will be reimbursed. I had my trusted mechanic make the repair, per Honda's direction (they said since I'm far away from a dealership and the car is driveable, just have it repaired by my mobile mechanic). Since the repair was completed, it is working fine although I now average 3 mpg less than before the repair.

Fuel Pump failed; the car cannot be driven. Took car to local mechanic and was told the fuel pump is part of major recall from Honda and I need to go back to the dealership and have Honda pay for repairs. I was told my car is not part of the recall, even though 2.5 million Hondas have been recalled with this problem.

SERVICE BRAKES
9 complaints
The break pedal felt stiff and I had hard time coming to a stop. That was going on for a few days until the car was dropped off for service. The reason was a break booster failure. We were told that it never happens. Even though the car only had about 15K miles we were out of warranty so had to pay $2400 to get it fixed. We filed a claim with Honda but were denied in reimbursement. Honda had break booster recalls in multiple models but not this one. However, there's no reason for the break booster failure other than a manufacturer's defect.

My wife and family left Evans, Georgia, on 06-Apr-2023 for their first cruise that departed from Miami, Florida. As they traveled down the interstate on 07-Apr-2023, the cruise date, the vehicle's right brake came off. My daughter steered the CR-V to safety without causing a major accident on a major Interstate Highway. They contacted the local Honda, Brickell Honda, 690 S. W. 8th Street, Miami, Florida, who dispatched a tow truck. The Service Representative was [XXX]. She asked whether the brakes had been worked on before; they had never since purchased the CR-V. Also, she confirmed that the damage was not due to road debris. Brickell Honda repaired the CR-V for $1151.31. The communication with Brickell Honda was good while the CR-V was in the shop. However, when we tried to reach out to the Service Advisor after the repairs were completed, it differed from Honda's standards. She failed to respond to our calls, voicemail, and text message. On 23 Apr 2023, I decided to have my local Honda, Gerald Jones Honda, 4022 Washington Road, Martinez, GA, review the work completed by Brickell Honda. They did not know why the brakes would have came-off, but they noticed the right rear brake line tangled up and the bolt left loose. These were things that Brickell Honda left undone, putting my family at risk! According to Gerald Jones Honda, fixing those things would cost an additional $175.00. We paid $201.25 for Gerald Jones Honda Diagnostic. “INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).”

Brake intermittently does not push down making it impossible to start the car. I have to open the door and close it then the brake will go down. Also, one time I was stopped while driving trying to get out in traffic and the brake came up and was hard as a rock. I quickly opened the door and closed it and the brake went back down. I have had it at the dealership about this 3 times. The third time the service department Forman had it happen to him but he said he didn’t know why. Nothing was done.

The car brakes have a delay to engage. My vehicle rolled forward 5 feet when brakes disengaged. The brake pedal makes a clunking sound after foot is removed. There is a slight delay between brake release and clunking sound. They stick and car slides forward.

My seat belt has come undone many times in the last few months while I am driving. I reached out to the local dealership that repairs my car and inquired about it, they hadn't heard of a recall. 2-3 months later there has been a recall issued on my year and model of my car for this issue. I brought it in on May 24 to get it repaired and was told they couldn't repair it because there wasn't an actual recall on my car. Well later that day it has happened twice where my seatbelt came undone while I was driving.

This vehicle has 33k miles on it and both front axels make noise when the vehicle has been driven for about 20 minutes and one starts to make turns. Honda says it needs new axels but does not know why they have failed. Honda says the CV boots are intact. I was driving on the freeway [XXX] my car speed was slowing down even as I had the gas pedal pressed to the floor. I was heading off the freeway when the speed picked up and car was working again. On a separate incident March 2024 my daughter borrowed my car and she described the same issue and again. The car would not speed up despite her pressing the gas pedal. Most recent [XXX]. Put car in reverse and step on gas and zero movement. Put it back in park and back in reverse and car once again worked as normal. No check engine lights so I was told no diagnostics could be performed. I see all the recalls for these problems but my vin number is not included. I’m worried all the time I drive my disabled son around his service dog and my young grandchildren ages [XXX] ,and [XXX] . Please see if you can help me get my car fixed. CRANKCASE FUEL/OIL DILUTION PROBLEM ON HONDA 1.5L DIRECT FUEL INJECTED, TURBO ENGINE. UPON THE FIRST OIL CHANGE ON OUR 2020 HONDA CR-V EXL AT ABOUT 6300 MILES WE FOUND THE OIL LEVEL IN THE CRANKCASE TO BE OVERFULL BY APPROXIMATELY 1 PINT. THE OIL SMELLED FAINTLY OF GASOLINE AND APPEARED THINNER THAN NORMAL. SEE ATTACHED PICTURE. WE LIVE IN A TOWN OF 22,000. MOST TRIPS AROUND TOWN ARE 2 MILES EACH WAY AT MOST, WHICH ACCORDING TO HONDA IS PART OF THE PROBLEM AS THE ENGINE DOES NOT RUN AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE LONG ENOUGH TO EVAPORATE FUEL IN THE CRANKCASE. WE DO TAKE OCCASIONAL TRIPS OF AN HOUR OR MORE EACH DIRECTION. HONDA SAYS THIS PROBLEM IS MADE WORSE BY COLD CLIMATES, HOWEVER, OUR WINTER WHERE WE LIVE HAD BEEN VERY MILD COMPARED TO MOST WINTERS WHEN OUR OIL WAS CHANGED. MOST DAYS THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMP HAD BEEN IN THE 30'S TO LOW 40'S. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY MY HONDA DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND HONDA HAS NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT HAVING PROPER OIL VISCOSITY. IF THE OIL LEVEL IN OUR HONDA ENGINE CRANKCASE WAS A PINT OVER FULL, THAT WOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO A 13% FUEL CONTENT SINCE THE ENGINE ONLY HOLDS 3.7 QUARTS OF OIL. THAT SEEMS EXCESSIVE AND VISCOSITY HAS TO SUFFER ALLOWING EXCESSIVE ENGINE WEAR. HONDA SAYS IT WILL BE FINE. I HAVE WRITTEN TO HONDA CORP. ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REPLY.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

This 2020 Honda CR-V has experienced 5 uncommanded automatic braking events so far. All 5 events were in wet conditions, with no apparent obstacle in front of the vehicle. One of these events occurred on I-35 at 70mph, and resulted in a full stop with the car facing oncoming traffic. The Collision Mitigation Braking System frequently provides false warnings in this vehicle.
May 14, 2024
On several separate occasions our Honda 2020 CRV has applied braking in circumstances where it should not have. On one occasion the vehicle ahead was maintaining the same speed and distance and our car applied brakes although the vehicle ahead was more car lengths ahead than 1 per 10 MPH. On other occasions there were no vehicles ahead or beside, while we were traveling at highway speeds on open highway and the car abruptly applied brakes. In each instance the braking stopped after a short jerk. In other words, it behaved as if the driver had lightly tapped the brakes, although that was not the case.
Feb 26, 2022
My car has applied the automatic emergency braking 4 times with no emergency needed as no other cars were around. All events included shadows from either a highway sign or a group of trees and occurred throughout the summer/fall of 2021.

Almost 2 weeks ago I was driving on the Florida Turnpike (about 77mph) and suddenly the gas quit on the car. It slower down to about 50mph as I kept trying to give it gas but to no avail. Meanwhile I was lucky enough to be able to steer it into the right lane. This seemed to last a long time but in. truth it was probably only about 5 - 7 seconds. Then suddenly the gas came back on. This happened two more times during the same trip but these were shorter in duration amounting to a big hiccup on the gas. It has never happened to me again. I took it to the Honda dealer. They said they took it out for a spin and couldn't replicate it and had no idea what was wrong. Now I rarely drive on roads that are high speed so perhaps that is why it has not happened again. I see that you are investigating a similar issue for CRV's that are 2018 -19 but mine is 2020. It sounds as though it's the same problem. Luckily I was never in an accident with the car so the police and insurance was never involved.

We were cruising along Rt 130 in New Jersey when suddenly the Automatic Emergency Braking System "Brake" flashed on my dashboard and my vehicle braked for a while (from 50mph to 30mph) although there were no cars or any obstacles ahead of us. I had to step on the gas pedal to avoid any rear-end collision on me. Luckily, there were no vehicle behind me at that time.

The wiper system stops working at times. The arms just stop mostly in the delay wiper setting. This makes it extremely hard to see in rainy conditions. No lights on the dash, have not brought the car to the dealership yet. I am quite frustrated that a 4 year old vehicle has an issue like this. We bought a new car to avoid fixing problems as cars age. Thankfully no one was hurt. This has happened a few times. I told my wife I would drive the car in the rain to see what happens to better describe it to the dealership.

Windshield has a significant refraction causing issues with visibility at night. Light passing through windshield is variably refracted depending on eye level and viewing angle. Issue has existed since car delivered. Vehicle was taken to dealer and advised of this several times with no fix attempted to date. Will continue to seek remediation from manufacturer and will consider lemon law if not resolved. This is becoming a common issue with more windshields as there are no real standards for windshield light refraction.

MY SUNROOF EXPOLODED/SHATTERED SPONTANEOUSLY. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS MOSTLY ALONE ON THIS STRETCH OF HIGHWAY. I WAS NOT IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE, UNDER A BRIDGE/OVERPASS, OR OTHERWISE IN AN AREA THAT WOULD PRODUCE ANY KIND OF PROJECTILE. THERE WAS NOT A TRUCK OR VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME THAT COULD HAVE KICKED A PROJECTILE INTO THE AIR. THERE WAS NOTHING THAT CAME THROUGH THE SUNROOF INTO MY CAR THAT I COULD IDENTIFY AS A PROJECTILE. 235/60R18 service bulletin 20-081 October 8 2020 after only 16000 miles and a trip to the dealership I advised that the wear and tear of every tire was different and need attention. I ask why the difference between the wear they suggested check the vehicle for problems with the suspension, nothing was found. I ask for replacement under warranty I even showed the service bulletin from honda mentioned at the top of this page , they ask me to contact the tire manufacturer witch I did, the manufacturer told me since I didn't purchase the tires directly from them warranty was denied, I went back to the manufacturer honda file a case which they denied because they didn't think my case fits the service bulletin from them. At the end I make the expense to replace the tires , what makes a huge difference in the handling of the vehicle. Case# 13736110 with honda

235/55/p19 tire blew ou,t and split on edge of tread at 65 miles an hour about all way around between tire tread and sidewall
May 22, 2022
In September of 2020 I purchased a brand new 2020 Honda CR-V Touring with 235/55R19 CrossContact LX Sport M+S tires. On April 3, 2022 I was on a trip away (several hundred miles) from home when my 17 year old daughter (who drives the CR-V) contacted me about one tire that was low on air. She sent me a photo. I informed her to put air in the tire to see if it continued to leak and I would fix it when I got home. Taking initiative, she asked me if she could fix it while I was away. I gave her inspection instructions. She carefully inspected the tire and found no outside defects such as screw/nail/puncture foreign material. Since the leak was very slow, she filled the tire with air and safely drove the car to Firestone Tire at 395 Eisenhower Dr, Hanover, PA 17331. Once she got there the tire technician attempted to find the leak. He was unable to find any outside defect or leak and continued by removing the tire from the rim. I then got a phone call from my daughter who had the technician on speakerphone. He described the issue to me as a tire manufacturing defect that he has never seen before. My daughter then texted me photos of the issue. The defect is easily seen on the inside molded lines in the sidewall. It is where the bead rolls into the sidewall. In the molded lines there are areas where the lines are interrupted/missing and with what appears to be several small holes in the rubber. Firestone could not advise how to proceed. The tire was remounted. The technician put a little extra tire sealant on the bead. She then drove the vehicle home. I have since also read the these tires, of other sizes, have had a vulcanizing problem. My tire clearly has this issue and Continental needs to update their recall list to include these as well.

On Sep 19, 2023 at about 6:10pm I got into my car at the CVS parking lot to drive home. As I reared back to get out of my parking spot, I heard a loud sound as if I had hit something on the passenger side and I returned my car to the initial spot to get out of the car and check what had happened. When I put the car into parking and tried to stop the engine, the car refused to stop. My foot was on the break, I was trying to turn off the engine but the car accelerated, went forward, then backwards, and kept going back and forth in all directions without me being able to control it. At the end it headed on the road when finally another car hit my car and this caused the car to stop. When the car stopped, it was still on Park and I was then able to turn it off. This happened in the evening. In the morning when I was going to work, as I entered my garage I tried to turn off the radio because there was no reception but I was not able to turn off the radio or to lower the volume. At that time I did not think it was an issue but in retrospect, I think the two incidents might be connected. At the end of July 2023 (about a month and a half before the accident) I started getting multiple warning signals on the dashboard and then I took my car to Honda Dealership who fixed the electronics for $850 and the car was returned to me. I have a police report # 2023-09190211 with witnesses for the accident on 9/19/2023 and the Honda Dealership should have detailed records from their work because it was quite recent. It is a miracle that there were no injured people as a result of this accident. It was extremely scary and horrible to be in a car that cannot be controlled. This has to be investigated and measures should be taken to prevent this from happening to others. I have not received yet the assessment from the insurance and I can provide more details when they share their findings.

Crash: 1
I just leased my crv 2020 on May of 2019 and after a week or 2 I had my car battery die on me. Jump started it and took it to Honda and they said they will change the battery. After 2 weeks it happened again and they changed it again. Around March of this year 2022 it happened again and they changed it again. And today it won’t start again. Since it’s 4th of July weekend I have to take it to them Tuesday.

My car was parked in my driveway all day and all night. At some point during the evening all of the windows and moon roof were opened without my knowledge (my keys were on the counter). It rained all night and my car obtained substantial water damage which cost approximately $18,000.00 to repair. I couldn’t drive my car until the repairs were made due to risk of electrical incident while driving. Honda has taken no responsibility. My car is a 2020 Honda CRV. It was recently brought to my attention that windows opening unexpectedly on Honda CRVs has been an issue since at least 2017 with the most recent incident that I know of happening on a 2021 model. Honda has been aware of this “glitch” for at least five years but has done nothing to correct it. It is a safety issue for many reasons. I would like this “glitch” to be corrected so that others will not have to suffer the loss and damages that I did. Insult to injury is I purchased my car from Honda in 2020 for $33,000.00 and then in 2021 I had to pay Honda almost $18,000.00 to fix damages sustained due to their negligence in addressing an issue that they knew about for at least 5 years.

The check engine light on my 2020 Honda CRV illuminated on 1/24/2023 7am. The dealer inspected the vehicle on 1/26/2023 and found that a TSB 02-081 applied. The issue is that radio interference in the environment can trigger a fault in the evap syatem which then triggers the check engine light to come on. Seeing a check engine light on is scary and distracting. The owners manual states to drive the vehicle as little as possible and to have the vehicled serviced by a honda dealer ASAP. The vehicle is out of warranty and we had to pay over $330 to have the vehicle fixed. The fix entails ADDING a wiring harness. ADDING any part to remedy a problem means that the vehicle has a design defect/flaw that Honda should pay for. Not the customer.

Hi - Thanks for your attention. I am reporting an issue that have been affected many Honda CR-V owners' safety: All Warnings Lights On Dash like Christmas tree, while driving slowly on private driveway on [XXX]. No particular reasons we could figure out: Only about 21,000 miles and < 3 years; no blocking of the sensors, good battery, no wire issue by eye inspection. Following some online suggestions, rebooted in Accessory Mode, not working; reconnected/disconnected battery, worked. However, it has been reported this issue will come back again in a short period, in an unexpected way, which poses significant safety issue. There are many online discussions, but Honda has not provided a solution for these severely defective vehicles, which surely has caused severe accidents and caused panic during HIGHWAY drive. Hope you could take some actions to protect the drivers' lives. HUGE Thanks. Recently ([XXX]) my wife was left stranded away from home when our 2020 CR-V started but would not go into any gear and had multiple warning messages about system failures including brake system problem (No Working Brakes), electric parking brake problem, tire pressure monitor problem, transmission system problem and auto engine idle stop system problem. The Honda Technician found that wires running under the rear view mirror had been cut by the [XXX] she uses causing a short and a malfunction of the computer system. The repair cost was $2451. This is an obvious design flaw by Honda. My wife is a [XXX] and all [XXX] are designed to hang over the rear view mirror. Honda should not have left exposed wires there under the rearview mirror, they should have been enclosed and protected. Anyone using a [XXX] is at risk of cutting these wires which makes the vehicle undriveable. [XXX] people are most at risk of being stranded. Anyone with a 2020 Honda CR-V and using a [XXX] should be warned about this problem immediately. Our vehicle was repaired at Honda of Stevens Creek in San Jose CA and the repair bill was $2451. The technician even did a video showing how the [XXX] cut the wire. We request that Honda reimburse us for our repair cost of $2451 and for Honda to fix this issue before more [XXX] people are left stranded.

While driving down the freeway at around 60 mph, I sharply accelerated to negotiate traffic and my vehicle lost power and the check engine light was flashing. I was able to roll to an exit ramp where i could barely get up a slight incline. I was able to get out of traffic but at speed of less than 5 mph. It sounded like the vehicle was running on two cylinders. I pulled over and turned the car off. I was able to re-start the car after which it ran normally. I went directly to the dealership where they were unable to reproduce or diagnose the issue.

I was told at that time that they did not have the parts available and to call back in the fall to schedule. I spoke to the same dealership on September 27, 2024 and was told that they did not have the parts and had no idea when they would arrive. They continued to state Honda offers vague communication on when the parts will be available. This is unacceptable and is a definite safety issue.

A warning on the dash that read, "All Wheel System Drive Problem," came up several times during the past few days on my 2020 Honda CRV with only 70,000 miles. It came without any prior warning and power was diverted from all four wheels to just the front wheels. It posed a safety risk because it came so suddenly, but I was able to drive carefully to the dealership. There is a Service Bulletin with Honda with the NHTSA (#23-031) located at [XXX]. This is a known problem with both Honda and the NHTSA, yet there is no active recall. The dealership charged $1260 to have this repaired, even though it's a drivetrain issue and not a common maintenance item. I would like the NHTSA to request a recall with Honda so that I can be reimbursed for this. I have attached a copy of the invoice that Honda provided for the services rendered. While travelling home from Champaign, IL on [XXX] towards Springfield, IL, we had been on the road for approximately an hour, when there was a loud metallic bang & I lost all steering control. The CR-V violently jerked to the right and exited the interstate at approximately 70mph (I was on cruise control), travelled down an embankment hitting several trees and came to a stop in trees on the edge of a farm pond. All airbags deployed, and per the Tow company, the engine and transaxles departed the vehicle and were found a short distance in front of the vehicle. The car stayed upright and continued straight after departing the roadway. what component failed & is it available for inspection - steering, exact component unknown. unknown if available for inspection, vehicle released to state farm 1/29 how was safety put at risk - caused severe crash with serious injuries. total loss of control could have been fatal if traffic was heavier has the problem reproduced - no has the vehicle been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance etc - unknown, vehicle was released to state farm 1/29 were there any warning lamps or symptoms? - no INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

One year after I bought my new 2020 Honda crv the Torque Converter seal leaked and the oil seal was replaced. I had only 4670 miles on it. In August of this yr 2023 my battery died in the middle of no where and had to wait for AAA in 103 temp for 45 minutes. Today October 20th,2023 my car stalled in the middle of a 4 lane busy intersection. The car was towed to the dealership and the fuel pump was replaced at only 14,400 miles! this vin has had no recalls but im so disappointed since I bought a Honda for its reliability. I have a disabled 81 yr old husband and this has been more than stressful. My warranty expires this Dec 2023 and im afraid I bought a lemon. Driving on the freeway with my foot on the accelerator, the car lost power even thought the engine was running. The engine light came on as a static light - it was not blinking. I pulled off the freeway, put the car in park, and shut the engine off. When I restarted the car the engine light was off and I was able to accelerate again. After the first incident, I took it to a Honda dealer who replaced the fuel injectors. This did not solve the problem as it happened on the drive back from the dealers when I was again driving on a freeway with my foot on the accelerator and I lost all power, the engine was still running and the engine light came on. I pulled off the freeway, put the car in park, and turned off the engine. The car is now at the second dealer to determine the cause. My car only has 46000 miles on it and there should not be these types of uses with the low mileage.

My car, a 2020 Honda CR-V EX 1.5T AWD, was totaled in a fatal accident on a rainy night on an interstate highway. It spun on the highway a couple of turns, hit the highway barrier at all of its corners and sides, caused the airbags to all came out, and eventually deadly stopped in the middle of the highway on a rainy night. My wife and I were in our undrivable vehicle, watching countless coming vehicles approaching us rapidly. We were just waiting in the dead car unmovable, just as in a coffin for our fate to come but can do nothing. Thank GOD who made someone call 911. Thanks to the emergency rescue team. The ambulance sent us to a nearby local hospital. We bought the vehicle, the 2020 Honda CR-V EX 1.5T AWD, as new, and we realized there could be a problem at a very earlier time. It has a serious problem with its AWD control system. The rear wheels are always engaged in all road conditions, as it is displayed on the instrument panel. This causes the two symptoms of the car, (1) the MPG (miles-per-gallon) is extremely lower than the standard 34 MPG on the highway. It is only 23 to 25 MPG because it always consumes about 32 to 36 gallons of gasoline on a trip of 810 miles distance (85% on interstate highways). (2) the rear tires are worn out extremely fast. It wore 86% of the usage range at 22,000 miles usage, which is about 2 to 3 times quicker than tires on other cars on average. We visited the Honda dealer in Troy, Michigan for the tire problems on May 9, 2022, which is about five months before the severe accident. The Honda dealer refused to give any compensation for changing new tires. The car is just over 25,000 mileage (see [XXX] ). They changed only 2 new tires in the front and put the old front tires on the rear wheels. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When I was driving my vehicle on 7-21-22 at approximately 4:20pm my emergency breaking system was flashing and breaking on it's own. There was nothing in front of my vehicle at the time. Later at approximately 4:25pm a woman hit my passenger side after running a red light. My passenger side airbag did not deploy. However, about 5-10 seconds after impact my steering wheel airbag deployed and hit me in the left side of my face. The delayed reaction has caused lacerations on my face, burns on my hand, bruising and loss of part of my tooth. I am also suffering from head issues and pain in my chest from this delayed airbag deployment. Vehicle had to be towed away to a garage and is not drivable.

I was attempting to park in front of a medical professional building with my foot on the brake slowly rolling between the parking lines when the car experienced sudden unintended acceleration. Although I realized the car was accelerating and lurching forward, the brake was not stopping the vehicle. The car jumped the parking curb and crashed into the building causing damage to both the exterior and interior wall of the doctor's waiting room. While neither myself, my passenger, nor any patients in the waiting room were injured, someone could have been. The air bags did not deploy, and the Collision Mitigation system did not engage preventing the collision. Damage to the vehicle consisted of mostly front bumper and grill damage. When I called the local Honda dealership service department asking if I should have them evaluate the car before having body work completed, I was told that the dealership does not accept damaged cars until the body work has been completed. Consequently, I had the car towed to a body shop even though it was technically drivable. I did not feel safe driving the vehicle fearing it would suddenly accelerate again. I reported the incident to the Honda corporate office and a case was opened. I was again told that damage to the car had to be repaired by the body shop before the car would be evaluated by Honda. When the body shop completed the repairs, I had the car towed to the local Honda dealership for evaluation. I specifically requested that the Event Data Recorder be evaluated, but I received conflicting answers when I asked if it had been accessed during the inspection. I was told that the Honda District Representative reviewed the data from the inspection and invoice states, "no defects in materials or factory workmanship were found (NAME of tech) inspected and found no issues, relayed information to Honda and they advised the vehicle is ok to drive at this time". The vehicle was released back to me, but I refuse to drive it.

The contact owns a 2020 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while his wife was attempting to park the vehicle at 1 MPH, the vehicle independently accelerated without warning. The vehicle jumped a curb and crashed into a tree which stopped the acceleration; the contact, who was in the passenger seat, was able to place the vehicle into neutral and shut off the engine. The contact stated that the airbags did not deploy upon impact. The police were called the scene and a police report was filed. The contact was able to drive the vehicle back home despite the severe front-end damage. The contact was also able to drive the vehicle to an independent body shop as several warning lights had appeared on the instrument panel which he linked to the accident. They remained in the possession of the body shop for repair. The contact and his wife sought medical treatment from a doctor where his wife was treated for a large lump on the back of her head and the contact was diagnosed for chest contusion after having a chest X-ray. The dealer was notified of the contact of the failure and was informed that they do not perform body repairs. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 11,500. Consumer stated the total repair cost of the car was $10,446.10.

APPROXIMATELY 80% OF THE FRONT WINDSCREEN IS COMPLETELY BLACK AND THE DRIVER CAN ONLY SEE THE ROAD AHEAD THROUGH THE LOWER 20% OF THE FIELD OF VIEW. THIS OCCURS AT NIGHT IN SITUATIONS WITH MINIMAL SURROUNDING LIGHTING (EG. NOT IN THE CITY). THE DISTANCE WHICH CAN BE SEEN IS LESS THAN 100 FT. THERE IS A STRAIGHT LINE WITH ABRUPT CHANGE FROM THE LOWER ILLUMINATED REGION TO THE UPPER COMPLETELY BLACK WINDSCREEN THROUGH WHICH HARDLY ANYTHING CAN BE VISUALIZED. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS COMPLETELY BLACK WINDSCREEN IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE HEADLIGHTS WERE AT FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS AND THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. IT IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS WITH THE LOW BEAMS AND THE ILLUMINATED AREA BECOMES EVEN SMALLER ON INCLINES. VISIBILITY IS SLIGHTLY IMPROVED WITH HIGH BEAMS BUT THE UPPER 2/3RD TO 1/2 OF THE WINDSCREEN REMAINS DARKER. THE IIHS SAFETY TEST CONFIRMS MARGINAL ILLUMINATION ON HONDA CRV EX L MODEL WITH INADEQUATE LIGHTING ON CERTAIN TURNS, SO THE DEFICIENCY OF THE LOW BEAMS IS ALREADY DOCUMENTED HOWEVER TESTING APPARENTLY DID NOT OCCUR IN LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS BECAUSE THAT IS WHEN THE BLACK WINDSCREEN CONDITION OCCURS. THAT WOULD HAVE GIVEN THIS MODEL A POOR PERFORMANCE/FAILING GRADE. I HAVE FOUND OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WITH THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND SO I AM SURPRISED THAT A FIX/RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM WITH THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS.

SOON BEFORE DRIVING MY NEW VEHICLE, IN A PRELIMINARY INSPECTION, I FOUND EXTENSIVE RUSTING AROUND THE EXHAUST PIPES AND SYSTEM. THE MECHANIC FROM THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT WAS NORMAL. JUST BEFORE DRIVING, THE MILLAGE SCREEN READ AS 000019. THE DEALER TOLD US THIS IS 0.019 OF A MILE. SOON AFTER I DROVE MY CAR OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP, I EXPERIENCED 4 EPISODES OF CAR BECOMING UNSTABLE, FLIPPING FROM ONE SIDE OF ROAD TO THE OTHER. THIS OCCURRED OVER A 23 MILES OF DRIVING IN HIGH WAY. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. THEY DISMISSED IT AS NORMAL. AT ARRIVAL, AFTER DRIVING 23 MILES, THE MILEAGE SCREEN READ 42 MILES. THE DEALER THEN ADMITTED THE INITIAL READ WAS IN FACT 19 MILES NOT 0.019 MILE.
