The contact owns a 2012 Honda Pilot. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V661000 (Air Bags). The contact stated while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, he crashed into another vehicle. The front driver’s side air bag deployed, with a powder that caused a burn to the driver’s right hand. A police report was not filed. Medical attention was not received on the scene but the contact's doctor later prescribed burn cream for the driver’s right hand over the phone. The contact notified an independent mechanic of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 128,000.

I AM CURRENTLY STATIONED IN GERMANY AND RETURNING TO US IN THE END OF AUGUST. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET HONDA TO HELP ME CORRECT THE SAFETY RECALL ON THE RIVETS SINCE JUNE AND THEY HAVE NOT HELP ME. I CANNOT SHIP MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE US UNLESS ALL THE SAFETY RECALLS HAVE BEEN CORRECTED. I EVEN PAID THE LOCAL GERMAN HONDA DEALER TO CONDUCT THE INSPECTION ON THE RIVETS FOR THE AIR BAG AND THEY SAID ALL WAS OK. BUT HONDA HAS NOT CLEARED THE DATABASE.

The contact owns a 2012 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while at a stop light, the engine shuddered and the vehicle was unable to accelerate. The check engine, battery, traction control, and Variable Torque Management 4-WD system (VTM-4) warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and diagnosed with piston and piston ring failure mentioned in Honda bulletin 13-082. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

Excessive oil consumption which led to engine misfire while driving and trying to merge onto the freeway. This cause a significant loss of power and poor performance by the vehicle. Fortunately the roadway was not busy, but this issue could have caused an accident. Took the vehicle to local mechanic, Affordable Automotive (Chico, CA). They ran a diagnostic and it revealed a P0301 and P0175 code. They removed the spark plugs which showed excessive fouling and they replaced them. The specific cylinder effected was Cylinder 1. I have contacted Honda and filed a claim (Case #12234271). They opened a case and initially had good communication, but have since stopped responding and have not provided me with a conclusion. Honda initially responded on May 21, 2021.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE JERKED WHILE SHIFTING GEARS. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER DUE TO THE DISTANCE OF THE NEAREST DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND SUGGESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 137,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Honda Pilot. The contact stated during the past 3 seasons of winter, the vehicle would fail to come to a stop while depressing the brake pedal. No warning lights illuminated. The failure would occur during winter cold climate temperatures. The vehicle was previously taken to a local independent mechanic where both the front brake pads and rotors were replaced. The vehicle was also taken to the local dealer for a second opinion however the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was taken back to the same local independent mechanic where the power fluid and brake system were flush however the failure had reoccurred and could not be replicated. The vehicle was also taken to another local independent mechanic for a second opinion however the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. MY HONDA HAS 60K MILES ON IT. IN OCTOBER, I NOTICED VIBRATION AND SHAKING WHEN BRAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS. I HAD MY PADS REPLACED AND MY ROTORS MACHINED. HERE IT IS A FEW MONTHS LATER AND I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUES, THE CAR SHAKES AND VIBRATES SEVERELY WHEN GOING DOWNHILL.

MY 2012 HONDA PILOT ROTOR WARP PREMATURELY RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND INCREASED RISK FOR CRASH WHEN DRIVING AT MODERATE TO HIGH SPEEDS. AFTER BEING SHOOK TO DEATH AFTER HEAVY BREAKING, I TOOK MY PILOT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT ROTORS CARRY A 12K MILE WARRANTY. THEY SAY THAT THE ROTORS ARE NOT PROPERLY DESIGNED FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. IN FACT, THEY UPDATED THE NEW PILOTS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. ALSO, THE HAVE A REPLACEMENT FOR THE HONDA ODYSSEY BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE BUT NOTHING FOR THE HONDA PILOT. THUS, I AM FORCE TO CHANGE OUT MY ROTORS EVERY 15K MILES BECAUSE OF HONDA'S POOR DESIGN. After contacting the seller on Facebook Market Place the contact purchased the vehicle and later discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the odometer mileage reading was 94,397. After obtaining a Vehicle Carfax, the mileage listed for the vehicle was 204,943.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2012 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 112,000, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 240,000.

Check engine light came on followed by shaking of the vehicle. The code was checked indicating a cylinder 1 misfire. This has been an ongoing issue of cylinders misfiring. The spark plugs and coils have been replaced multiple times and the issue is still persisting.

RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2012 HONDA PILOT TOURING. AFTER DRIVING FOR A FEW DAYS, I TUNED INTO A CONSIDERABLE VIBRATION IN MY SEAT MOSTLY AT HIGHWAY CRUISING SPEEDS. I BELIEVE IT IS THE SAME SHUDDER THAT OTHERS HAVE REPORTED. I HAVE BROUGHT TO THE DEALER ON 2 OCCASIONS SO FAR AND THEY HAVE BALANCED, ROTATED, AND EVEN PUT NEW WHEELS FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE ON IT. I SWEAR I CONTINUE TO FEEL IT AND HONDA TECHS INCLUDING THE MASTER TECH SAY IT DRIVES NORMAL. IT DRIVES ME INSANE AND I CONTINUOUSLY ADJUST SPEEDS TO AVOID IT FROM HAPPENING WHICH IS DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY. IT ALSO PULLS CONSIDERABLY TO THE LEFT EVEN WHEN THE ROAD SLOPES RIGHT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IF SOMEONE EVER DRIFTED WHILE DRIVING, IT IS STRAIGHT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC! I ALSO WONDER ABOUT LONGEVITY OF THE TRANSMISSION, TORQUE CONVERTER ETC. The contact owns a 2012 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving at 32 MPH and pulling into a parking lot, the vehicle accelerated unintendedly. The contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle stopped. There was no warning light illuminated. However, the failure reoccurred the next day. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was operating as designed. The contact stated that the ECO was engaging, causing the vehicle from dropping from number six (6) cylinder to number three (3) cylinder. The contact stated upon pulling into the car wash and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle accelerated unintendedly. The contact depressed the brake pedal but it failed to respond and went all the way to the floorboard. The contact turned the steering wheel to avoid a pedestrian. The contact drove sideways and crashed into a building. The air bags did not deploy. The contact was unsure whether he sustained injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The dealer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 158,000.

WHILE TRYING TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT ON A REGULAR CITY STREET LAST NIGHT MY CAR KEPT ON MOVING EVEN WHEN PUSHING REALLY HARD ON THE BRAKES!! I SWITCHED THE GEAR TO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE MADE A VERY LOUD NOISE AND I KEPT ON MOVING THE GEAR BETWEEN NEUTRAL PARK AND SO TILL THE GAS PEDAL GOT DISENGAGED AND CAR WENT BACK TO NORMAL . LUCKILY NO CARS WERE IN FRONT OF ME AND NO ONE GOT HURT.

I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC IN RUSH HOUR, TRAVELING IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A 3 LANE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. ONE OF MY DAUGHTERS WAS TRAVELING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND THE OTHER ONE WAS I SEATED BEHIND ME. I HAD BEEN TRAVELING FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES AT A MAXIMUM SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, AS TRAFFIC WOULD CLEAR AND THEN BECOME CONGESTED AGAIN. I WAS MAINTAINING ABOUT 5 CAR LENGTHS BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. I TAPPED MY ACCELERATOR TO MOVE UP WHICH CAUSED MY PILOT TO SHOOT FORWARD. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF IT WAS LUCKY I HAD MAINTAINED A GOOD DISTANCE WITH THE CAR IN FRONT AND APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. THE CAR CONTINUED TO SURGE, AND I COULD HEAR THE ENGINE REVVING. I BEGAN SCREAMING, AND MY DAUGHTER IN THE FRONT SEAT WAS YELLING FOR ME TO HIT THE BRAKES. I TOLD HER I WAS PRESSING THE BRAKES, BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE, DESPITE MY APPLYING WITH GREAT PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE. MY DAUGHTER COULD ALSO HEAR THE ENGINE REVVING. WE SLAMMED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF US, AND CONTINUED MOVING. THIS CAR REAR ENDED A PICK UP TRUCK WHICH FINALLY STOPPED MY PILOT. BOTH FRONT SEAT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, AND MY CAR BECAME ATTACHED TO THE CAR I REAR ENDED. LUCKILY, EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT WAS ABLE TO WALK AWAY, BUT IF THE DRIVER I HAD STRUCK HAD PASSENGERS, THERE DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERE INJURIES. I RECEIVED A TICKET FROM A STATE TROOPER FOR FAILURE TO MAINTAIN A SAFE DRIVING DISTANCE FOR AN ACCIDENT THAT WAS NOT MY FAULT.

IN TWO INSTANCES WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A SLOW SPEED WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE PILOT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED CAUSING A COLLISION WITH (1) A TREE AND (2) A BUILDING. IN BOTH CASES MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED IN 2014 AND THE SECOND IN 2017. NEITHER OF THE INCIDENTS CAUSED BODILY HARM. IN THE 2014 INCIDENT POLICE WERE NOT CALLED AND IT WAS NOT REPORTED TO INSURANCE. IN THE 2017 INCIDENT POLICE WERE CALLED AND A CLAIM WILL BE FILED WITH INSURANCE.

I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I WAS NOTIFIED THAT BOTH FRONT LOWER COMPLIANCE BUSHINGS WERE EXCESSIVELY WORN AND NEEDED REPLACING SOON. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THERE HAD BEEN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM HOWEVER I'M PAST THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. MY MILEAGE 136,648. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY WARNING ABOUT THIS SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN FROM ANYONE INCLUDING MY DEALERSHIP. THIS IS VERY COSTLY AND I'M HOPING I CAN GET SOME HELP IN GETTING THIS REPAIR DONE ASAP SINCE IT SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE.

ON OCTOBER 31, 2015 AT APPROXIMATELY 1100 HOURS, I WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 85 NORTHBOUND APPROACHING THE EXIT RAMP TO ARCHDALE, NORTH CAROLINA WHEN A LOUD EXPLOSION SOUND OCCURRED. WHILE I CONTINUE NORTH ON INTERSTATE 85 IN THE SLOW LANE UNTIL I COULD FIND A GOOD AND SAFE AREA TO PULL OVER, I STARTED TO HEAR A NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE GLASS HITTING THE ROOF OF MY VEHICLE. THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE SUNROOF AREA BUT I HAVE THE SLIDING SUN VISOR CLOSED SO I COULD NOT SEE WHAT WAS COMING FROM MY SUNROOF UNTIL I LOOKED OUT MY REAR VIEW MIRROR AND NOTICED GLASS WAS FALLING OFF THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. AFTER APPROXIMATELY DRIVING 150 FEET, I PULLED MY VEHICLE ON THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF I-85 JUST SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 62 EXIT RAMP TO INVESTIGATE THE INCIDENT. WHEN I GOT OUT OF MY VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT I HAD A LARGE HOLE IN THE MIDDLE OF GLASS SUNROOF WITH MINOR CRACKS SURROUNDING THE LARGE HOLE. DURING MY INVESTIGATION AND BASED ON MY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE INVESTIGATING CRASHES OR BEING INVOLVED IN A CRASH INVESTIGATIONS WHILE PERFORMING MY DUTIES AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, I NOTICED THAT THE GLASS ON MY SUNROOF WAS PUSHED UP AS IF THE SUNROOF BUCKLED AND EXPLODED. I CAN TESTIFY 100% THAT NOTHING HIT MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 85 BECAUSE FOR SOMETHING TO HIT MY VEHICLE DIRECTLY IN THE CENTER OF MY SUNROOF AND PRODUCE A LARGE HOLE, IT WOULD HAVE BROKEN THE SLIDING SUN VISOR THAT I HAD CLOSED. IN ADDITION, I DID NOT SEE ANY ROCKS OR HARD OBJECTS LYING INSIDE THE LARGE HOLE. FURTHERMORE, AS I MENTIONED BEFORE THE EDGES OF THE LARGE HOLE OF MISSING GLASS WAS POSITIONED IN A UPWARD POSITION AND USUALLY WHEN GLASS IS BROKEN, IT CAVES INWARD AND NOT OUTWARD. THEREFORE, AFTER SPENDING APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES LOOKING AT MY SUNROOF THAT EXPLODED, I DROVE IT BACK HOME AND I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND OBTAINED PHOTOGRAPHS.

The vehicle's paint is literally peeling away from every horizontal and connected vertical surface. Without paint on metal, rust is happening, weakening the metal structure of the vehicle. have reached out to Honda USA and they informed they had no responsibility for the paint, yet the service writer at my local Honda dealer said that my vehicle's paint, Pearl White, has been peeling off Honda vehicles for years and Honda knows it to be an issue yet only occasionally offers to be of any assistance. I am the original owner of this 2012 Honda Pilot, the vehicle has never been in an accident, yet in the past year paint has come off of the vehicle at an alarming rate (literally in sheets). To be able to make necessary restorations the front window was broken and had to be replaced (at my expense). If Honda knows its Pearl White paint doesn't adhere to the metal body, that is a known product defect and they are potentially contributing to accelerated body deterioration (a safety concern). I have all current documentation for the restoration, and upon attempting to pick up the vehicle it was discovered that the hood was sustaining the same problem as the roof and upper body. There are no impacted "warning" lights as this is not mechanical, and I am unclear how separating paint (according to our local Honda dealer is always Pearl White) poses an immediate safety problem for me or others, but if you are not aware that Honda dealers know the Pearl White paint is defective, what else are they not telling you/us about our vehicle and the vehicles owned by hundreds of thousands of Americans? Please conduct your own investigation and contact me if you'd like copies of our correspondence with Honda USA and the original estimate versus the final bill ($1000 more) for the first round of re-painting. We now are having a second round of painting to address the paint failure on the hood. Thank you.

I NOTICED A FEW MONTHS AGO THAT THE PAINT WAS PEELING ON MY 2012 HONDA PILOT. PAINT SHOULD NOT PEEL ON A CAR THAT IS ONLY 7 YEARS OLD. I CONTACTED HONDA AND THE HAVE REFUSED TO FIX THIS.

I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY, APPLYING BRAKES AS I BEGAN COASTING TO A STOP IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED SMASHING INTO THE FRONT OF MY HOUSE. MIDDLE OF THE DAY, NO RAIN, NOT IMPAIRED, FLAT DRIVEWAY. AIR BAGS DID NOT ACTIVATE. PAINT/SCRATCHES ON THE FRONT BUMPER AND CRACKS ON THE HOUSE STUCCO BUT NO MAJOR DAMAGE. ACCELERATION STARTED JUST A COUPLE YARDS FROM THE HOUSE. HONDA DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND ANY EVIDENCE OF A COMPUTER OR OTHER PROBLEM.

I PURCHASED MY 2012 HONDA PILOT ON TUESDAY MARCH 27, 2012 WITH 113 MILES ON IT. My 2012 Honda Pilot is experiencing the same engine defect that Honda acknowledged in later model years (2013–2015) and issued recalls/extended warranty coverage for. The defect involves the Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system causing excessive oil consumption, spark plug fouling, cylinder misfire, rough idle, fuel odor, and drivability issues that create an unsafe driving condition. I brought the vehicle to a Honda dealership in 2023 due to rough idle and a strong fuel smell — symptoms consistent with Technical Service Bulletin 13-082 for misfire and piston ring failure in 2009–2013 Honda Pilots. The dealer did not repair the issue or disclose that this matched a known defect. The vehicle now exhibits severe engine performance issues that pose a safety risk, including hesitation, engine shuddering, loss of power during acceleration, and strong fuel odor that may indicate improper combustion. Honda has issued recalls and warranty extensions for the identical defect on 2013 and newer Honda Pilot models with the same 3.5L V6 VCM engine but refuses to repair or acknowledge the defect for my 2012 Pilot, even though it uses the same engine architecture and has the same symptoms. This discrepancy indicates a potential gap in recall coverage that leaves owners of 2012 Pilots with a known safety-related defect unprotected. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate why the 2012 Pilot was excluded, despite identical engine design and failure patterns.

SOMETIMES WHEN STARTING OUT AND MAKING LEFT OR RIGHT HAND TURN AFTER BEING STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, THE ENGINE WILL HESITATE AND BOG DOWN FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE IT "KICKS IN" AND THEN THERE IS A "SURGE OF POWER". THIS IS VERY ANNOYING AT THE LEAST AND ALSO VERY DANGEROUS AS ONE COULD EASILY GET REARENDED OR WORSE YET GET CAUGHT IN THE INTERSECTION IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC. PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN JANUARY 2012. WE HARDLY DRIVEN THIS CAR TILL THIS YEAR IN 2013. AS OF JUNE 28TH OF 2013, THE PILOT HAS 7046 MILES. IN EARLY JUNE WE TOOK IT DOWN TO BALTIMORE WHEN I NOTICED THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES OR STEERING PROBLEMS WHEN I APPLIED SOME BRAKING OVER 65MPH AND GOING DOWN HILL WAS EXTREMELY APPARENT. THE STEERING WOULD VIBRATE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 28TH. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I WAS " HARD BRAKING" AND THAT WAS CAUSING THE ROTORS TO WARP. I ASKED THEM TO CLARIFIED " HARD BRAKING." IT WAS JUST A GENERAL ANSWER THAT NO ABRUPT FORCE ON THE BRAKES. I HAVE DRIVEN TOYOTA, BUICK, OLDSMOBILES, AND CHEVY. IT HAPPENED TO ME 3 TIMES THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND BATTERY LIGHT CAME UP WHILE I DRIVE THE 2012 HONDA PILOT ON A 5INCH WATER PUDDLE. IT WAS ACTUALLY PRETTY DANGEROUS AND SCARED WHEN IT HAPPENED BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN A RAINING CONDITION. THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY LOCKED UP DUE TO THE POWER FAILURE AND IT RESUMED BY ITSELF AROUND 10 SECONDS AFTER PASSING PUDDLE. I BROUGHT IT UP TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE 2ND EVENT DURING REGULAR MAINTENANCE BUT NO ISSUE WAS FOUND. THE 3RD INCIDENT HAPPENED RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED. I CALLED TO THE HQ AND TRY TO CREATE A CASE FOR IT BUT THEY ASKED ME TO BRING IT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AND THE CHARGE WILL BE ON THE CUSTOMER SINCE THEY DON'T HAVE ANY COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THE GASKET ON THE SPOOL VALVE ON OLDER HONDA PILOTS IS KNOWN TO FAIL. THE FAILURE RESULTS IN OIL LEAKING ONTO THE ALTERNATOR WHICH FILL CAUSE THE ALTERNATOR TO EVENTUALLY FAIL RESULTING IN A LOSS OF POWER TO THE VEHICLE. THIS RECENTLY TO MY WIFE WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. OIL LEAKING FROM THE SPOOL VALVE FOULED THE ALTERNATOR RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF POWER TO THE VEHICLE INCLUDING TO THE POWER BRAKES AND POWER STEERING. THIS ENGINEERING FAILURE CAUSES A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN RECENTLY SERVICED BY HONDA FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE ISSUE WAS NOT NOTICED. AT MINIMAL, HONDA SHOULD RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT OF THE GASKET AS PART OF ROUTINE SERVICE AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME OR CERTAIN MILEAGE. ON APRIL 30 2014 MY WIFE [XXX] ENTERED THE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL OF PHILADELPHIA CAMPUS IN THE 2012 HONDA PILOT. SHE APPROACHED THE GUARD BOOTH AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS CAN BE VERIFIED AS THE GUARD STOPPED HER AND THEY HAD A BRIEF CONVERSATION ABOUT WHERE TO PARK. [XXX] THEN ACCELERATED OUT OF THE GUARD BOOTH WHILE MAKING AN IMMEDIATE LOW SPEED RIGHT TURN DOWN A RAMP INTO A PARKING GARAGE. FROM THIS POINT THE HONDA PILOT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE DOWN THE RAMP AS SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE CAR ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL AND FAILED TO BRAKE. IT JUMPED A SMALL MEDIAN AND EVENTUALLY HIT A CONCRETE BLOCK WALL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RAMP. HE EXPLAINED THAT WHILE THE 2012 HONDA PILOT HAS AN EDR ONLY SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE THE ABILITY TO RECORD PRE ACCIDENT DATA AND THAT MINE DID NOT HAVE THIS ABILITY. HE ALSO SAID THAT I WOULD NOT RECEIVE A REPORT OR ANY CONFIRMATION IN WRITING ABOUT THE INCIDENT OR SUBSEQUENT EXAMINATION OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2012 HONDA PILOT- I PURCHASED USED WITH 9K MILES. I HAVE PUT APPROXIMATELY 5K MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED AN ENGINE VIBRATION SIMILAR TO BEING IN THE WRONG GEAR IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE TRANSMISSION- AS I INITIALLY THOUGHT THAT IT WAS A "HUNTING" ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION- THE DEALER INDICATED THAT IT WAS NORMAL. THE MORE I DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THE MORE IT APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO THE ENGINE AND NOT THE TRANSMISSION. THE VIBRATION IS VERY ANNOYING AND NOT NORMAL. HONDA NEEDS TO STEP-UP AND TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. TOO MANY ISSUES OUT THERE WITH OTHERS WITH SAME COMPLAINTS. PROBLEM: WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THERE IS A RESISTANCE/HESITATION THAT IS FELT IN THE GAS PEDAL AND THE ENGINE HAS TROUBLE INCREASING RPM'S. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE. CASE I: WHILE IN A PARKING LOT, TRYING TO PICK UP A LITTLE SPEED. GAS PEDAL HAS RESISTANCE AND ENGINE WON'T PICK UP SPEED. I KEEP MY FOOT STEADY ON THE ACCELERATOR AND THEN PILOT PICKS UP SPEED IN A UNEXPECTED RUSH. HIGH LEVEL OF DANGER DUE TO PEOPLE PRESENT IN THE AREA; AS THERE WAS AN UNEXPECTED AMOUNT OF SPEED. CASE II: ROAD TYPE: THREE LANE ROAD IN EACH DIRECTION OF TRAFFIC. WHILE IN THE LEGAL U-TURN LANE, I OBSERVE THAT THERE IS ENOUGH DISTANCE TO MAKE A U-TURN. FROM A STOP I TRY TO PICK UP SPEED (I WAS AIMING FOR 5K RPM'S, I KNOW HOW FAR TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO GET THAT RESPONSE). A GREAT RESISTANCE AND LACK OF RESPONSE FROM THE GAS PEDAL WAS FELT. THERE WAS MINIMAL ACCELERATION HAPPENING AND THEN AFTER ABOUT 6 TO 8 SECONDS, THE ENGINE WAS ABLE TO GET TO 6K RPM'S. AS THE CARS APPROACHED FASTER I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED. TRAVELING AT LOW OR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS EXCESSIVE TRAVEL AND CAUSES AN EXCESSIVELY LONG DELAYED STOP. The contact stated that while the vehicle was getting a State Inspection, the inspector observed that the parking brake cable had seized and failed to operate as intended. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the parking brake cable needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

While driving the vehicle at around 45 MPH it suffered a complete loss of power for 3-5 seconds. The dashboard lights illuminated and then the vehicle restarted without having to restart via the ignition and all of the dash lights turned off. This has happened intermittently on two prior occasions. No electrical issues were evident, new battery and charging system appears to be functioning normally. The contact stated that the dealer found that the issue was a faulty positive battery terminal connector. It was replaced.

Unusual amount of oil consumption. Faulty cylinder 3. Gaskets cause the oil to leak into the spark plugs causing the engine light to come on with loss of power. Changed cylinder 3 spark plug at least 10 times or more since purchasing the vehicle in 2021. Oil also drips onto the alternator, replaced it twice in 9 months. Wheels and steering wheel shake when hitting the brakes. Replaced brakes and rotors twice as well.

I was driving on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in the left-hand lane alongside the concrete barrier. The road curved to the right and when I tried to gently steer to the right the steering wheel got stuck and locked. I wasn’t able to steer to the right and so the car hit the barrier. The steering then unlocked. Since I was trying to originally steer to the right, the car moved to the right and hit the guard rail along the right-hand side of the highway where the car finally came to a stop. It was fortunate that there were no other cars close to my car when this happened. I don’t know what caused the steering wheel to lock up. The car was very badly damaged and eventually determined to be a total loss. I suffered a concussion and need ongoing PT and OT. Also, I am limited to only working part-time until my concussion symptoms improve. The car was well maintained and had passed the state inspections a couple of weeks before. The issue could have been caused by a front suspension assembly error.

The brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard and the vehicle then unintendedly accelerated. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact made a local dealer aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 149,400.

I got this car as a loan from a 3rd party dealer ship and they never told me it had a recall days after the airbag light pops up in the dashboard I took it to get service and they stated that the problem was fixed. The light on the dashboard was gone. A couple days ago the light came back and it makes a weird noise when you turn it on and the car gets humidity so fast the windows fog up and I have to turn the ac on. It doesn’t feel safe to drive it at times but I have to for work. I just want to make sure it’s safe to drive from la to sylmar I’m afraid if it gets to hot or humid that the airbag will go off, and I’m paying way more than I expected each month for the car and it doesn’t feel safe.

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

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM BRICKELL HONDA IN MIAMI WITH 7,000 MILES. I HAD TRADED MY 2010 HONDA PILOT SO I WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THIS VEHICLE IN GENERAL. IMMEDIATELY, I FELT A HESITATION WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS MY IMAGINATION. HOWEVER, AFTER DRIVING IT FOR A WEEK IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THIS WAS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AS IT CONTINUALLY HESITATED WHEN ACCELERATING IN TRAFFIC. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND EXPRESSED MY SAFETY CONCERNS. THEY DROVE THE CAR AND TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEIR "MASTER MECHANIC" EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS A NEW FEATURE WITH THE PILOT'S TO SAVE GAS! I SAID, WELL THIS IS VERY FRIGHTENING WHEN YOU PRESS THE GAS AND THE GAR DOES NOT MOVE! THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AS THAT IS THE WAY THE CAR WAS MADE TO RUN?! I HAVE SINCE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS IDENTICAL TO MINE WITH THE 2012 HONDA PILOT. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2012 HONDA PILOT TO REPLACE A 2010 PILOT THAT HAD SOME UNCHARACTERISTIC ISSUES. WEEKS AFTER DRIVING IT OFF THE LOT, I BEGAN TO NOTICE A NOISE WHEN THE AC FAN KICKED ON. I TOOK THE PILOT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS JUST THE SOUND THE FAN MAKES WHEN IT KICKS ON. FOR THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE, THEY KNOW THIS SOUND IS ANYTHING BUT NORMAL. IT IS A QUITE LOUD WHINING NOISE THAT CHANGES IT'S PITCH WHILE YOU ARE SITTING IDOL WITH THE AC ON. A SECOND ISSUE I HAVE SEEN IS THE VIBRATION WHEN DRIVING AT A CONSTANT SPEED. THE PILOT DRIVES WELL WHEN INCREASING OR DECREASING SPEED, BUT A CONSTANT SPEED CAUSES A VIBRATION SIMILAR TO THAT OF A MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLE RUNNING IN TOO HIGH OF GEAR. THIS ISSUE IS TERRIBLY ANNOYING AND THE ONLY WAY TO AVOID IS TO CONSTANTLY CHANGE YOUR SPEED. BOTH OF THE ISSUES CAN BE FOUND IN REPORTS ONLINE WITH A CONSISTENT ANSWER: HONDA KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUES BUT HAS NO CURRENT FIX. I WISH I HAD NEVER BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE. DRIVING HOME FROM THE DEALER IN A BRAND NEW 2012 HONDA PILOT, 4WD, EX-L W/RES ON 6/26/12. AT APPROXIMATELY 62 TO 65 MPH THE TRANSMISSION IS LURCHING AS IT APPEARS TO BE SHIFTING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN 4TH AND 5TH GEAR. THIS CAUSES A JERKING MOTION AND CAN BE FELT IN THE STEERING. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER ON 6/28/12 AND A HONDA TECHNICIAN DROVE THE VEHICLE AS I WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED THE ISSUE AND INDICATED IT WAS EXACTLY AS I HAD DESCRIBED. HE SAYS THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT THERE IS NO FIX. HE SAID IT'S DUE TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER. 2012 HONDA PILOT - DOES NOT START CONSISTENTLY. CONSISTENTLY HAS A ROUGH START, AND OFTEN STALLS. WITHIN DAYS OF OWNING MY BRAND NEW 2012 HONDA PILOT, THE CAR STALLED WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START IT IN MY GARAGE. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR THE DAY, THEN REPORTED TO ME THAT HONDA OF AMERICA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND TRYING TO FIX IT. THEY PROMISED TO KEEP ME POSTED ON THE STATUS OF THE HONDA OF AMERICA ENGINEERS PROGRESS ON THE ISSUE. SIX WEEKS WENT BY, AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED WITH INTERMITTENT CALLS FROM MY LOCAL SERVICE MANAGER. I WAS TOLD NOT TO BOTHER TO BRING IT IN FOR SERVICE EACH TIME IT STALLED BECAUSE THEY WERE WAITING FOR A RECALL/FIX FROM CORPORATE. AFTER SIX WEEKS, MULTIPLE STALLS, WHICH WERE ALL REPORTED TO MY DEALER AS REQUESTED, I WAS THEN ADVISED, BY MY DEALER TO CONTACT HONDA OF AMERICA MYSELF GET SOME RESULTS. I SPOKE WITH HONDA OF AMERCIA'S NICE, BUT USELESS CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE FOR TWO WEEKS, AND GOT FED UP WITH HER INABILITY TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN AGREE THAT MY PROBLEM WAS UNACCEPTABLE. THEN I CALLED THE GM OF THE DEALERSHIP, EXPLAINED MY FRUSTRATION & CONTINUED PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAND NEW HONDA PILOT. HE CLAIMED TO NOT HAVE HEARD OF MY PROBLEM BEFORE, AND QUICKLY AGREED TO FULFILLED MY REQUEST TO TRADE MY VEHICLE IN FOR A DIFFERENT CAR, SAME MODEL - 2012 HONDA PILOT IN THE HOPES THAT MY CAR WAS A LEMON. WITHIN LESS THAN 24 HOURS OF OWNING THIS SECOND 2012 HONDA PILOT, MY NEW CAR STALLED. I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN ON YOUTUBE AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2012 HONDA PILOTS, AND HAS ALSO BEEN REPORTED WITH SOME 2011 HONDA PILOTS.
