While driving, the vehicle just stopped. Tried to navigate to get to side of the road, but ended up stuck in the middle of the lane, in the middle of the road. My pilot also has some sort of lock, so I could not put it in neutral to be pushed out of oncoming traffic. Tried to jump start but the battery was fine. Road side assistance took 3 hours to come and tow us. Once at a dealership, diagnostics was run, starter was checked. But turns out the engine had ceased. The vehicle had randomly not started back up when the eco shut the car off when the brakes were pushed down, but this was extreme! Very dangerous! I regularly change my oil, only use synthetic oil and have my car serviced, fluids topped off. I have been on the wait list for the fuel recall, but Honda on Gilbert, in Gilbert, AZ does not answer calls, call back, or offer rentals for recalls. But this situation was scary and unacceptable. There is other recalls for the 2018 Honda Pilot for engines ceasing up. This is poor workmanship for Honda. Yes, this has been confirmed. My vehicle is currently had Honda Superstition Springs in Mesa, AZ, because I did not trust to go back to Honda Gilbert to timely correct the issues or communicate. Yes, You can inspect the vehicle. Engine ceasing while driving put my self and others at risk. No warnings.

COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. Driving normally - no warning - vehicle shut down - dash warning lights went on after shut down. Fortunately, vehicle was through the intersection and on a side street - or this would have been a fatal accident. Towed to Honda Dealership - told engine needs to be replaced. Vehicle just out of warranty @ 106,000 miles. Have all paperwork on maintenance of vehicle - oil changes every 5,000 miles, etc. No indication prior to failure - not in accident - so no inspection by insurance/police.

On October 3, 2025, our 2018 Honda Pilot was being driven a short distance locally when all ability for acceleration was lost. Fortunately the driver was able to navigate off the road safely. The auto shop that checked the engine determined that it had seized up. The oil was properly maintained and the auto shop believed it had to do with a connecting rod bearing issue. The vehicle odometer is only 101,375 and had been in great working condition. This was a sudden occurrence with the only symptom being a slight rattling that started about 3 weeks prior. We don't have a need to drive this vehicle much (once or twice a week for very short distances), so I scheduled an appointment for the rattling sound to be looked at by my auto shop, but the engine seized a few days before the appointment date.

Although I had the Honda taken in for the prior auto stop/start engine recall. The software fix has not solved the issue. While in traffic, even with the auto stop/start feature OFF, the engine will randomly turn off and it becomes a safety hazard as I’m blocking traffic scrambling to turn my engine back on, sometimes it is challenging to get the engine back on, and in the meantime cars are driving all around trying to get around me. This is ridiculous that Honda is doing the bare minimum to address what is clearly a huge liability for me as a driver and others in traffic.

Camshaft sensor failed. Car is not even 7 years old. I was told this issue is known in the Honda ridgelines. They say the camshaft has to much movement and damaging the sensor. Code P0369

Reporting recall for crankshaft connecting rod bearing and the fuel pump. Notified Jan. and Feb. 2024. Have called many times. "Never had the parts". "Not on the list to be called". "Recall not on list to be called". "No suitable appointment time available. Will call when they have one." Left messages. Have never gotten called! Frustrated. Almost 2 years. What do I do?? Seriously, do I need a lawyer or what. Lately the car seems to hesitate. Kind of a rocking sensation while driving. Is that from the fuel pump that should have been replaced more than a year ago?? Recall issued 11/9/2023

The driver side sun visor quit staying up after just 1 year. It’s dangerous always stuck hanging halfway down.

I have called about this recall at least three times. I brought it in to be serviced and told them that I felt like something was wrong with the car and that it did not feel like it was driving right like it wasn't getting power and sluggish. They assured me that my car would be given thew replacement part soon it's been over a year. I drive with my daughter on the highway 4 times a week. Two days before Christmas my car broke down. I was driving and it started to not shift properly and would stutter when I stepped on the gas to accelerate. The check transmission and emissions system sensors came on and I just barely made it into my parking lot at my apartment. It has several system warnings coming up and was not shifting right. It is now in the shop and they can't look at it for several days. I am just glad I was not on the Interstate highway when this happened.

My auto idle start/stop has been causing my engine to stall out when I come to a complete stop. I believe it started about a little more than a year ago. It doesn’t happen all the time and never happens when I remember to turn it off. I had it at the dealership multiple times mentioning about this problem and was dismissed every time. They told me they found nothing wrong and all codes were fine and nothing was popping up. Finally, someone tested my battery and found it wasn’t operating fully. I replaced the battery after be reassured this should fix the problem. It was fine for less than a year, maybe 6 months and then it started happening again back in mid/late July. This is a major safety concern and after reading online that many others are experiencing the same issue is causing me an even greater concern.

Vehicle lagging when and most of the time does not run right away when you press the gas several times. Whenever I'm in an intersection and am trying to cross to my left when cars are coming towards me, I push the gas slightly so I can see the road complete; when I'm certain that there is no car, I try to push the gas right away to cross the intersection when I do this the car would lag in the middle of the street and has caused me almost to get hit several times with my kids and a baby inside the vehicle. I had been to the dealer many times and explained this situation, but they always made me spend for something that did not fix the issue. I had to beg them many times and even called the corporation to do something about the recall with the fuel pump, but I was always dismissed and told to wait. It has been almost a year since this started happening today. I got an emission light on again and am scheduled to return on Wednesday. I am hoping to get the recall for my car fixed. Please help me investigate this matter. I don't want to be in an accident, especially since I drive with my toddler and two kids every day to and from school. Thank you

POWER TRAIN
27 complaints
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50-65 MPH, the vehicle jerked, and the message "Transmission Systems Failure" was displayed on the instrument panel. In addition, the transmission downshifted unexpectedly, and a short while later shifted to normal drive and operated as intended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the torque converter clutch had failed; DTC: P0741. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had become progressively worse and occurred more frequently. The contact related the failure to TSB: 23-078; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

This car has had numerous transmission issues and a documented torque converter failure. Honda extended the warranty for 2018 pilots with these failures but did not include our vin number even though it’s the sane problem. They are refusing to fix it. This is a widespread issue and they are refusing to help us even though there are known manufacturing problems. The dealer hid this problem from us before the sale even though the code was documented in their system in Dec 2024 and we bought in May of 2025 reassured that it was a great car. Dealer refusing to fix it even with these records and hiding this from us and Honda corporate doesn’t care and said they only have to fix the ones that have certain vin numbers even though it’s the same problem and systemic. Rotten crooks endangering our family and ripping us off!

While accelerating to merge onto the highway at 40-50 mph, the ~50K mile engine lost power and began to abruptly decelerate. All warning lights came on. The car was taken to the dealership where we were informed that the camshaft broke. Fortunately we were not struck or involved in an accident because of this but it was very dangerous and we were very lucky. There were not any warning indicators before this incident, but the car was taken to the dealership recently for a torque converter replacement per a recall. I am unsure if this repair contributed to excessive play that could have caused the camshaft failure.

I am filing this complaint because Honda has acknowledged a torque converter defect in Service Bulletin 23-078 (dated August 31, 2023), which applies to 2017–2019 Pilots and Ridgelines equipped with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The bulletin states that certain torque converters may have been manufactured outside proper specifications, causing cracks in the lock-up piston, pressure bleed-down, and eventual loss of clutch capacity. This failure is associated with diagnostic trouble code P0741 (“Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance / Stuck OFF”) and can result in shuddering, hesitation, loss of power during acceleration, or sudden and irregular transmission behavior — all of which create safety risks in traffic, merging, or highway conditions. My 2018 Honda Pilot meets all the published eligibility criteria: it is within 8 years of the original service date, has fewer than 150,000 miles, and has stored the DTC P0741. Despite this, both my dealership and Honda America have denied coverage, claiming my VIN “does not qualify.” While a goodwill request was filed on my behalf, I was informed that even if approved, I could still be expected to pay part of the repair. This denial is unacceptable given Honda’s recognition of the defect and effectively requires me to cover a repair of a faulty product that is necessary for safe operation of the vehicle. Because Honda has already issued a service bulletin acknowledging this defect and created a warranty extension for some vehicles, I urge NHTSA to investigate whether the defect is broader than Honda admits, and whether a recall or expanded coverage is warranted to ensure drivers like myself are not forced to operate unsafe vehicles due to VIN restrictions.

Start stop system would not restart vehicle. Came to a stop at a stoplight. Engine stopped with system engaged. Let go of brake to creep up in traffic and the engine did not restart. Warning on Dash told me to place vehicle in park and restart. It took a couple of tries to restart . The vehicle eventually did restart.

As of 11/21/23, our honda pilot has approx 75,000 miles, we purchased it new so we are the only owners. A few weeks ago, the vehicle while driving about 45 mph, completely shut off, all lights on the dash cam on and the transmission became disengaged. We were able to shut it off for a few minutes, and drive it about 1/2 mile to the local Acura dealership. The car did not operate normally though, it would only go about 20-30 mph, before the transmission disengaged for a few seconds, then re-engage and continue driving. Acura said it was a producing a bad cam-shaft sensor code, they reset it, but said if it happened again, they would need to open up the engine to inspect the cam-shaft. Two days later, the exact same thing happened, we returned it to the same Acura dealership, where they said the cam shaft, and abunch of other parts needed replacement, at a cost of about $2,500. We had no choice since the car was immobilized. Now, the week of 11/20/2023, a recall regarding the rod bearings was issues, which cause the exact same immobilization issues we experienced, which is very dangerous as a driver. Upon research online, the cam shaft sensor and faulty cam shaft is more common than I expected, and I believe should be investigated before someone is seriously injured. To add, our specific pilot is not showing the engine rod recall, but we have experienced issue with the vehicle in regards to the auto start/stop feature and the car not restarting, as well as cruise control issues where the car will go into neutral at 70+ mph when cruise control is activated. We will probably not have this vehicle much longer because of the issues we have had in the first 75K miles, and the continued safety issues that plague this model. More needs to be done for the safety of it's drivers and passengers.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while stopped, the Auto START/STOP activated, the vehicle shutoff but failed to promptly restart while depressing the accelerator pedal. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

Emissions light comes on due to a faulty Fuel Injector and Catalytic Converter. This continues to show up in multiple forums when it comes to this problem.
Apr 20, 2023
The car has an automatic engine shut off when the car comes to a complete stop (brake pushed fully). Over the course of a month, the car will stop and start correctly many times, however 5-7 times a month the engine will not come back on...the lights and radio will all be on and the engine will not come on. This requires me to put the car in park, turn the car completely off, restart the car all while the light is green and cars are behind ready to go. The battery is fine. There is an issue with the automatic system. Unfortunately Honda Dealership has not been helpful and is more interested in charging extra money. I have read this is a problem that needs to be addressed.

[XXX] an Error Code "Emissions System Problem" came up. We brought to personal mechanic error code P0430 came up when they attached the code reader to the underside of the dashboard. Our mechanic told us we had to bring to Honda. Brought to Millenium Honda in NY, no code was in "system", they told us about recalls and fixed the recalls. We took the car on vacation and the light came on again while driving from NY to SC. Brought to Honda dealership to have looked at, code was off. This recall for the fuel pump has been outstanding for a year. The dealership insists parts are still not available. When will this be resolved?
Dec 02, 2024
My car hesitates during acceleration, I received the recall for the fuel pump in February, called the dealer, they say they do not have parts, I called again in early November, and they say the same thing. I am afraid the pump isa going to go out when we are driving in Traffic, so I do not trust the vehicle. I can take the car to any repair shop and they will replace it in a day. Why can't the dealer replace it? They are slow-walking this recall while we take the risk. What can I do?
Nov 21, 2024
I received a recall notice from Honda regarding the Safety Recall of the fuel pump module in May 2024. My local dealer just informed me that they have no idea when they will receive the replacement modules and they are receiving about two units per month at random intervals. If this is indeed a safety recall, I believe Honda should be making these units available for existing customers ahead of producing units for new, unsold vehicles. Thank you.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2018 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. On at least four separate occasions the idle engine stop has failed to restart when the vehicle was stopped at an intersection. The car not only does not restart but it also won’t respond for some time to attempts to turn the car off (in park mode and brake applied) so that it can be restarted. We must try to remember to disengage the idle engine stop at each use of car to avoid this issue as there is no way to do that permanently without installing an aftermarket product.

The contact stated that while his wife was stopped at a stop light, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power; however, the vehicle was able to immediately restart. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The STOP/START warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 94,000. The VIN was not available.

When attempting to start the car's engine by pressing the start/stop button, it takes several times of pushing the button to start the engine and the dashboard displays a keyless start system error. There is a tech service bulletin for 2016 and 2017 models of the same car providing an extended warranty for customers to get free start/stop switch replacement. I took my car to a dealer and and they reproduced the problem. I was told it was not covered under the warranty. Why did Honda provide warranty and free replacement for previous model years but not for 2018 model that had the same problem? Please advise.

SEAT BELTS
11 complaints
The front passenger seatbelt snapped into 2 pieces toward the floor. It is physically impossible for that portion of the seatbelt to get caught in the door that would weaken it. The only people who are in the vehicle since we bought it new from Honda are my wife and I who are both in our 70's. The car is not abused and kids are never in it. This piece of metal should not have snapped and broken into two pieces. Honda told us that it was not under warranty and not their problem. We told them that this was a safety feature that should not have failed within this time period. I also have a 1994 Ford Pickup with the original flimsy seatbelts and they still operate like they were new. We believe that since this is a safety issue, it should have been covered by Honda. We are assuming that it was caused by faulty materials. We still have the broken seatbelt in case anyone wants to inspect it. We had to pay $993.89 to repair it. We are asking for assistance in recovering that cost.

SECOND SEATBELT FAILURE. I previously reported second row passenger seatbelt that was found completely detached from anchor, at point where belt was looped and sewn. This was replaced by dealer. The second row middle belt locked in extended position at that time, and I requested dealer check this and repair or replace as needed. This was supposedly also done. The row 2 middle belt is rarely used, using first time since repair was reportedly done, found webbing that is frayed 50%+ through, in portion that is retracted when not being used. I checked all belts when I found this, and found fraying at the 3rd row middle seatbelt (buckle portion webbing), with associated damage to the plastic where the third row seat folds down. It appears the belt webbing has been rubbing on this plastic part of seat back, causing damage. This belt is also rarely used: not at all in last 13 months, and around 5-6 times, every 6-10 weeks in non-pandemic times. The third row is normally kept folded down, with the middle row belt retracted into ceiling when not in use. I am left wondering if the geometry of the belt placement is causing mechanical/friction damage, if there are sharp edges in the 2nd row middle belt storage (overhead), or if there was chemical damage to some belts in the factory. It is odd and concerning to find multiple issues with the belts, and I want all to be replaced, and their housing inspected for possible points causing the damage.

I FOUND THE SEATBELT END THAT SHOULD ATTACH THE BELT TO THE ANCHOR ON MY PASSENGER SIDE SECOND ROW DETACHED TODAY. THE BELT WEBBING IS FRAYED THROUGH BOTH THE WEBBING AND ALSO THE SEWN PORTION THAT MAKES THE LOOP ATTACHING THE BELT TO THE FLOOR/ANCHOR. THE ANCHOR IS BELOW A PANEL, SO I CAN'T SEE IF THERE WAS A SHARP EDGE THERE THAT RUBBED/CUT THE AREA, OR IT JUST UNRAVELED THROUGH AN AREA THAT WAS NOT PROPERLY SEWN. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, AND MY DAUGHTER REACHED FOR THE BELT TO BUCKLE (SHE USES BOOSTER), NOTICING THE DETACHMENT BEFORE WE DROVE.

THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT IS CONSIDERABLY SHORTER THAN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT. THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT IS SO CONSTRICTING THAT YOU CAN'T TURN TO LOOK WHEN CHANGING LANES. SO THE NEED TO DRIVE WITHOUT USING THE SEAT BELT IS AN ISSUE OF SAFETY. I AM AN AVERAGE SIZE PERSON AND THIS HAS NEVER BEEN A PROBLEM IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED.
Feb 16, 2019
WHEN USING THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT, THERE IS NO EXTRA GIVE IN THE BELT. THE BELT IS VERY TIGHT AND THE DRIVER CAN NOT EVEN TURN TO CHECK THEIR BLIND SPOT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE SINCE SEPTEMBER 2018. I HAVE TRIED ADJUSTING THE SEAT FURTHER AWAY FROM THE WHEEL, HOWEVER, THE BELT SEEMS TOO SHORT.

I came to a stop at a red light on a busy street. Vehicle turned off due to autorignite feature. When light turned green it no longer would turn the engine on in order to go. All my lights turned on, I couldn't put the car in drive. I couldn't put in neutral, reverse or any feature. It wouldn't allow me to do anything but put the hazards on. It had happened to me 3 times since the same exact way. Only way to get it to go in drive is by turning the vehicle off completely, if it let's you. Then once it is off, starting it and going about your day. Codes do not register as I have taken to dealership before and they say it would note it but it doesn't and have refused to repair under the warranty. It also has an acceleration and deceleration issue that has been documented on my visits that has yet to be fixed as well and is a known problem but because it is is not the correct year and model it won't get fixed. I have had someone take video since then to show what happens on the other occasions as my proof since Honda Corporation themselves wouldn't doing anything either.

While stopped at an intersection, the vehicle's Auto Start/Stop technology engaged. When driver attempted to drive, the Auto Start/Stop wouldn't disengage, as a result the car would not start. The vehicle prompted the driver to put the car in park and push the ignition button to start the car, however nothing happened, meaning the car would not start. After about 2 minutes, the car was able to start and the driver was able to continue driving. An immobilized vehicle at an intersection put its passengers at risk, including 2 children under the age of 3. Dealer will be notified of this occurrence.

This has happened to me about 10 times in this vehicle: I am at a stoplight or stopsign and my "Idle-Stop" system in the Honda shuts down my engine and then when my foot comes off the brake it does not restart like it is supposed to leaving me stranded in the middle of traffic with a non moving vehicle. I think this is extremely dangerous and I am scared this will cause a terrible accident if not fixed. The only way the engine restarts is after about 30 seconds to a minute it finally is able to power back on. Please have Honda issue a recall for this issue.

On multiple occasions over the past month or so, my wife has experienced engine issues associated with what we believe is the Auto Start/Stop function on our 2018 Honda Pilot (Touring Edition). Upon coming to a complete stop, the Auto Stop function disables the engine. Upon releasing the brake, the system is supposed to restart the engine. However, on at least five occasions the engine has not restarted, and it has required her to turn the vehicle off and completely restart it as if starting from cold. This has occurred at stop lights, which obviously could cause safety issues/implications. On at least a couple of the occasions, she had to attempt to restart the vehicle multiple times by applying the brakes and pressing the main start/stop button). I frequently drive the vehicle and always turn off the Auto Start/Stop function. I have never run into these issues whatsoever. The vehicle is scheduled for routine maintenance at a Honda dealership in two days; the vehicle is serviced solely at this same dealership. The issue will be brought to their attention as well.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving in stop-and-go traffic, the vehicle would engage the engine STOP/START fuel-saving feature while stopped. The contact stated that whenever she depressed the accelerator pedal the message "Place Vehicle in Park" displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart, with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact attempted to start the vehicle using the Push to Start button. The vehicle was restarted but failed to respond after shifting into drive. The vehicle was restarted several times before resuming normal operation. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN JUNE 2018 I NOTICED THAT THE HOOD VIBRATED EXCESSIVELY AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP THE DAY AFTER PURCHASE AND AGAIN AT THE FIRST OIL CHANGE. BOTH TIMES I WAS INFORMED THAT DUE TO THE LIGHTER METALS USED IN THE HOOD TO SAVE WEIGHT, THE VIBRATION WAS NORMAL. ON MARCH 5, 2021, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 65MPH, I NOTICED A LOUD "SLAPPING" NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ALUMINUM AROUND THE HOOD SIDE LATCH (METAL HOOK) MECHANISM HAD TORN ABOUT 75% OF THE WAY AROUND THE ATTACHMENT POINTS (THREE BOLTS). IN ORDER TO KEEP THE HOOD SHUT, AND FROM SEPARATING, IT HAD TO BE TAPED TO THE VEHICLE BODY. I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS PURCHASED FROM AND ALL WHO INSPECTED IT AGREED THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURERS' DEFECT AND A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. HONDA CORPORATE REPRESENTATIVES AGREED.

Issues include engine not starting/stalling and check engine light illuminating. Over the past 3 years I have experienced the following symptoms with my 2018 Honda Pilot: 1.) The engine wouldn't start on several occasions 2.) My wife noted she was driving in parking lot when engine stalled 3.) Dash illuminates "EMISSIONS SYSTEMS PROBLEM/ CHECK ENGINE" On March 11, 2024 I took my vehicle to Honda of Pasadena and spoke to Svc Advisor Eddie and told him I am experiencing all of the above and is this covered under the safety recall? He stated he will have the Svc Tech inspect and let me know. Shortly thereafter I was told by Eddie that my issues are not related to said safety recall and charged me $720.45 in un-necessary repairs (none of which included replacing the faulty fuel pump). In response I filed a claim with Kassandra @ American Honda Motor Co., Inc (CASE# [XXX]), who reached out to dealer and ultimately denied my claim and noted issues are not related the Safety Recall. To date I have filed a BAR complaint which is pending and and I am currently driving said defective vehicle which is experiencing all the above safety issues: 1.) engine not starting and/or stalling 2.) Dear Sir/Madam, My Vehicle stalls and stutters suddenly when driving. It does not accelerate the way it should. Engine light is on. I called Honda Customer Service and even though it says "Fuel Pump recall" on my vehicle they say they don't know when parts are going to be available. Their responses were very evasive. They said it was a placeholder and were not willing to help me. They don't have any concrete responses to my questions. I asked them when will the fuel pump parts be available for dealers to fix the recall and they asked me to check back in February. I got a letter in December stating that after Jan 2nd they will help with this issue. Now they are saying Feb. My vehicle maybe unsafe to drive and if the engine seizes or is ruined because of the delay in fixing this recall, I would be at a total loss. Please help me. Thanks so much! I noticed when driving between 10-30 miles per hour the pilot will stall in between 2 rpm and 3 rpm jumping up and back down, shortly after I received an emission problem alert and the car started driving very strange pulling forward then losing power. Noticed that this is a common problem in Pilots and it is very concerning.

On [XXX] we left Charleston, SC for Pittsburgh, PA. In Columbia, SC a maintenance light came on "Transmission System Problem". Soon after, another light read "Transmission Hot." I stopped at the next Exit where Precision Tune- 7000 Garner Ferry Rd, Columbia, SC was located. The shop determined the transmission overheated. I paid $1,105 to have the transmission fluid flushed (3x) and the Honda computer reset. The vehicle had 43K miles. The SUV ran fine for 1800 miles. About 100 miles on our return trip to Charleston at 10:00pm on [XXX] a light read "Transmission System Problem." On July 01, Precision Tune Columbia told me to take the SUV to Precision Tune Summerville. On July 03 I dropped off the vehicle. I spent $517.45 on a rental vehicle. On July 17 my SUV was returned. Precision kept my vehicle without servicing it until the 30 day warranty ran out. I contacted Honda Corporate and informed them there were multiple online forums of other 2018 Honda Pilot 6cyl owners reporting similar transmission issues noting the torque converter. A few months later the "Transmission System Problem" light came on again. Since July, 2024 I have only driven the SUV 5K miles and not out of Charleston. In June, 2025 I received a product recall advisory that the torque converter was a known issue with the model. On July 8, 2025 I dropped the SUV at Stokes Honda. I received a call that the transmission fluid is bad. Precision sent over the Carfax report. It has been a year and my vehicle with 50,750 miles is inoperable and no one will take responsibility. I have only purchased Hondas for 22 years. We have a small trip scheduled July 11-17 and I have had to rent another vehicle, costing another $500. I would like my SUV repaired by Honda under warranty extension as the issue is a known problem with this year, make, and model. Crank shaft rod bearing, engine needs to be replaced due to internal damage. Honda has recalled other VINs for 2018 Honda Pilot, but not mine. I am having the same problem as another recall already issued, and Honda is refusing to pay for engine replacement.

The auto start and stop feature on my vehicle is not working. I called the dealer and they said they won't repair it. The recall for this issue is under investigation. When I have this feature on, and at a red light, my car turns off completely. I have to push to start over, but when I'm in drive and people are behind me waiting, it can be a safety issue because it frustrates cars behind me AND they creep up super close to my car. When this happens, and if a car is speed behind me, if I needed to make a quick safety decision to go and change lanes, i would be stuck a few extra seconds trying to put the car back in drive to make the lane change to avoid a potential accident. Sometimes people are on their phones and dont stop, but i check my rearview mirror, and move if needed. So, any delay is a safety risk.

I purchased this 2018 Honda Pilot in spring of 2024. Two months after driving it, it started hesistating to restart after idling. At the end of July an emissions warking appeared on the dash and the car would not restart after idling a few times and I would literally have to restart the vehicle by putting it back in park. I took it back to the dealership and they said it was a gas fuel shutter and they repaired that. For a while it still hesitated to restart but it didn't completely shut off until this week week (Nov 2024). This fuel saving feature is a safety defect. It will hesistate to restart when it idles or it won't restart and the red error message to put it in park and restart shows on the dash which is a serious safety concern that I believe Honda knows about that I discovered today is currently in a lawsuit.

When attempting to accelerate the vehicle does not respond and experiences a three to five second delay. The delayed response began occurring shortly after purchasing the vehicle in 2018 and has only increased in frequency. This issue appears to be systemic with this model and year and the dealership has no remedy to mitigate this safety issue / concern.

Since the purchase of my vehicle I have noticed from time to time it will accelerate when I’m pressing on the brakes. Recently, this issue has gotten worse. I have almost drove my car in to our garage doors, or come close to hitting someone in front of my vehicle, because of its unpredictability. There are also issues with a delayed acceleration when accelerating from a stop. I will press on the gas and the car will not move for about 2 or 3 seconds and then accelerate very quickly as I’m pressing the gas all the way down. I believe these problems are related. I’ve taken my vehicle in twice to the dealership with no remedy as they claim they can’t reproduce what I’m talking about. Stop and go traffic is the best way, but not the only way, to reproduce the problems. This is dangerous, in my opinion, and unfortunately I’m stuck with this vehicle that I don’t feel safe in anymore and I don’t want my child, who is learning to drive, to take this vehicle out once she gets her drivers license as I believe an inexperienced driver is in more danger with these issues.

"SUA, Sudden Unwanted Acceleration". I was in the process of parking on the 6th floor of a parking ramp in Rochester MN, I had selected my parking slot and drove very slowly half way into my parking slot. As i was stationary about 3 meters from the front wall and getting ready to reverse for a bit in order to better align in between the white lines in my slot and before i shifted gears to reverse and while my foot was still on the brake, the vehicle experience a sudden full-speed acceleration crashing the vehicle against the wall with full force, the dashboard showed a message that the airbag malfunctioned and could not deploy. Had not there been a wall but just rails in front of my parking slot, i am afraid the vehicle would have flown from the sixth floor into the ground. The insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss. The vehicle is still under my name but in possession of GEICO, available for inspection, but because it was a total loss i was not able to bring it to the Honda dealership where i bought it. There were no warning signs that this would happen.

Crash: 1
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT MY CHURCH WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. AS I NEARED THE END OF THE SPACE, THE CAR SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD. IT WENT OVER THE CONCRETE BARRIER AT THE END OF THE SPACE AND CAME TO A STOP WHEN THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE HIT A TREE AND WAS KNOCKED TO A PERPENDICULAR POSITION TO THE AXLE. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT CAUSED THE CAR TO STOP. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CAR SURGED FORWARD ABOUT 5-6 FEET AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE AND I WAS SLOWLY MOVING INTO THE PARKING SPACE.

THIS FEATURE IS CORRECTED WITH A LOW SPEED FOLLOW FEATURE IN OTHER HONDA AND LATER HONDA PILOT MODELS, AND SHOULD BE RETROACTIVELY ADDED TO THE 2018 HONDA PILOT TO PREVENT REAR ENDING THE CAR AHEAD. *TR

Auto idle system is faulty. I repeatedly experience a failure when this system is not turned off. It causes my engine to shut off when I step on the gas - or (mostly) it causes my car to almost shut off (the dashboard shuts off and flashes back on when I step on gas at a stop sign or other stops, also when I’m driving and accelerate there is a lag of nothing like the car almost turns off followed by a big jerk or jolt when it turns back on again. I’ve asked Honda dealer in town about this and they said it’s just the transmission and could get it replaced but now I see (via a class action suit I read about) that this is a big problem and it’s not just my personal issue with the car. I’m concerned someone will get hurt if these problems are not recalled and fixed by Honda.
Jul 31, 2025
This issue started last year upon purchasing my used Honda Pilot. The gas save mode that allows the engine to shut off at stops and restart does not work properly. Rather than the engine restarting, the car will instead shut down. Taking about 2-3 minutes to have to put the car in park and being able to restart after several attempts. The Pilot was taken to Honda last year where they did a computer upgrade. This issue happened again last week on 5/8/2024 and again this morning, 5/13/2024. This can cause a safety issue as the car is stopped at a stop sign or a light, and when traffic is trying to move, I am holding traffic up which may cause cars to attempt to go around or cause an accident. I need to know why this is happening and when Honda plans to have a solution.

I previously reported issue 11360107 which Honda attributed to a bad battery cell and replaced the battery on this vehicle. I followed up with them that I consider auto-idle-stop functionality that doesn't restart despite the battery being capable of restarting to be a safety issue. I re-iterated to them that I "rebooted" the car by holding the car start button down until the Honda logo appeared in the driver display. The car then proceeded to start and I didn't have any issues with the battery being able to start the car before or after that. As stated in that issue, this happened on the access road of a major Texas Freeway while stopped at a stop light. Cars were flying by at 50 mph with my family in the car sitting at a green light. Honda has apparently issued a "fix" for this, but today I experienced a similar issue at the gas station. Today was different b/c my auto-idle-stop was disabled. My Honda dealership had disabled it the second to last time I brought it in for service, but didn't tell me. I had complained to my dealership about this issue in the past, but the feature had been disabled when I received it, without notating the change in any paperwork. I asked about it the last time I had my car at the dealership and they acknowledged that Honda was telling them to disable the auto-idle-stop on vehicles where the owner said something. Today, July 16th, 2023, I experienced the same behavior when I stopped for gas. The car would not restart, the starter would not attempt to star the car. I had driven about 60 miles in this 100 degree weather in Aransas, Texas. After filling up with gas my car wouldn't start, the electronics worked, the radio came on, but the car wouldn't start. I got out of the car while the electronics were on, went to talk to another person in the caravan. I came back and tried again and the car started. The battery was obviously capable of starting the car without jumping.

On at least three occasions after being stopped at a light the engine suddenly died (not simply auto idle stop). After putting in park and shutting off ignition (button start) and waiting some time the vehicle could be restarted. Battery is good. Fuel is good. Injectors already replaced. Dangerous as vehicle may be unexpectedly on powered while in traffic
Nov 19, 2022
The Auto-Idle feature will unexpectedly over-engage while coming to a stop and the entire vehicle will shut off. I am unable to shift, steer, etc. It will also completely shut the engine down when at a complete stop. To be clear, this is not the normal auto-idle. When the full engine disengage happens, the entire vehicle loses power and the dash flashes. The vehicle states, "put into P". Once in "P" for park, the vehicle still will not restart. It is as if the vehicle has to "reset" itself. It has taken upwards of 4 minutes for the vehicle to restart. This has happened on a highway during construction traffic, approaching a stop sign, slowing at a red light on multiple occasions. I have almost been rear-ended as a result on mutiple occasions. I am not even able to put the vehicle in Neutral to move it to a safe spot. Honda informed me that I "just need to disengage this feature each and every time I start the vehicle" . That is not the solution. This feature should be permanently disabled by Honda. Immediately.

The car unexpectedly sent out emissions failure systems warning Effecting the ability to accelerate without a pause in a forward movement. I had my mechanic diagnose the warning lights which indicate a connector rod issue. This diagnosis aligns with all of the symptoms. My mechanic warned me the engine could stop at any time. We will have the repair done this month. Honda put out a recall and stop production for this issue in March of 2024 but my car does not show up in the recall when I inquired to Honda about the issues I was experiencing. They basically said there is nothing for me to do.

Unfortunately, due to the extended delay in this repair, my vehicle has experienced significant mechanical problems, which I believe are directly related to the faulty fuel pump.Fuel Injector Contamination, Catalytic Converter Stress, Transmission Performance Issues
Jun 11, 2025
Auto restart failed. Vehicle failed to move forward at a red light. Dash instructed to place vehicle on park then press the engine start-stop button hence restarting in the middle of the road presenting a safety hazard, cars behind me almost tail ending mine. People were honking and I couldn’t move fast enough. Why is the Honda dealer saying they will charge $222 to inspect to see if it’s a starter issue? Just fix the problem. I already had the system reset due to recall. This is a prevalent problem, shouldn’t it be inclusive to a recall. Also putting the customers at risk knowing its an issue is a huge problem. Please advise and help resolve this safety issue.
May 01, 2025
When stopping at a traffic light the engine auto stop/start engages, but then the engine will not power back on when I release the brake. I have to completely restart the engine, causing a safety concern with other vehicles behind me. This has been ongoing for the last 6 months or so, and it seems to be getting worse. Sometimes the car will turn off mid intersection and we will be stuck there for 10-30 seconds while I try to get the car back on and going again. It is a very dangerous hazard and Honda denies there being an issue. After reading online it seems that many people are having a similar problem.
Dec 19, 2022
After the car was stoped at a red light with the auto-idle feature on, the car stalled out when I pressed the gas petal to drive. The radio and A/C shut off and a PARK warning displayed. It took several attempts to turn the car back on. After the car started it took several minutes for the radio to start working again. None of the touch buttons for radio, phone or navigation would respond. This happened when I was at a light after getting off the highway. It almost caused a car accident with the drivers around me who were coming off the highway. Since this happened, every time I turn on the car, the radio stations can not be found. I have to turn the radio off/on once or twice for the car to find the stations. Frequently, when I go from stop to drive at lights or stop signs, the radio and AC will turn off for a second. This seems to only happen when the auto idle feature is on. The car transmission is also having lurching when going from 1st to 2nd gear.

My Honda Pilot’s Sunroof exploded and sounded like a gunshot. Today March 30 while I was driving to pick up an order at Walmart around 7:50 pm. It wasn’t too windy, no cars were in front of me and suddenly I heard a big loud noise followed by wind blowing, my first thought was that I had a tire that popped but then when I checked the pressure on them and everything was fine after I got into the Walmart parking lot and parked. I was able to see the big hole in my sunroof. I do not understand how my sunroof suddenly shattered like that especially when it’s not that old now going on 7 years old and which is not my first Honda Pilot. My latest one was the first model: a 2003 Honda Pilot that last me for 14 years and never had any problems whatsoever with the sunroof.
Mar 30, 2025
While traveling at highway speed there was what sounded like an explosion and first thought was it was a blown tire, but upon stopping to inspect it was discovered that the sunroof had exploded, leaving a large gaping hole across it. There had been no warning signs and there was no previous known damage to sunroof. I was lucky that the sun shade had been closed at the time or there would have been the real risk of the interior passenger compartment being peppered with flying glass shards, posing a danger to all 6 occupants, including 4 minor children, and especially to the front passenger and driver sitting directly underneath the sunroof who would have been at greater risk of injury with the very real possibility of the driver losing control of the vehicle.

In March of 2018, a recall came out for the electric motor and and mounting bracket on the driver side seat adjustment. We purchased this Pilot new in September of 2018. The seat motor has quit working, but we cannot find the recall anywhere. It seams to me like we should be able to get it recalled and get the motor and bracket replaced!!

I bought the car three days prior to this event. On February 14, 2024, I reached into the third row to lower the seats and I pulled the black strap toward me like it says to do in the manual and the seat came down so hard it crushed my hand between the seat and the side of the car and broke my 5th metacarpal in 3 places. I had to have surgery 6 days later and had hardware put in my hand. Even the emergency room doctor said there is something wrong with my seat. This story is similar to the boy that got crushed in the third row seat and died. Why is this seat like this? I realize if this was a child it would be all over the news but I am an adult and our lives matter much less to the media.

Per dealer service center the front passenger defect seat frame need to be replaced. This is a manufacturer defect although this vehicle was not on the recall list of Honda Service Bulletin 18-042, it should have been. This vehicle has not been any accident to cause a seat frame problem. Could cause harm if in accident. The dealer service and Honda American is offering to pay half on the $1,853.60. This a manufacturer defect and I should not have to pay.

I SCHEDULED AN APPT FOR THE RECALL ON 3/02/19 @ HUNTINGTON HONDA. I WAS TOLD THEY HAD THE PARTS & WOULD DO THE RECALL WHEN I BROUGJT MY CAR FOR THE APPT. THEY DID NOT DO THE WORK & TOLD ME THAT IS HONDA'S PROCEDURE IS THAT THEY NEVER REPAIR RECALLS ON THE 1ST APPT. THEN I MADE AN APPT AT HONDA CITY FOR THE RECALL REPAIR TO BE DONE ON 03/14/20 I MADE SURE THEY HAD THE PARTS BEFORE THE APPT.. AGAIN THE REPAIR WAS NOT DONE AND I WAS TOLD THEY NEVER REPAIR IT THE 1ST TIME THEY SEE IT. I SCHEDULED THE NEXT APPT AT HONDA CITY FOR THE RECALL REPAIR ON 09/05/20 & AGAIN IT WAS NOT DONE. I BELIEVE HONDA WILL CONTINUE WASTING MY TIME & CAUSING ME EXPENSES & LOSS OF SALARY EVERY TIME I MAKE AN APPT FOR THIS RECALL REPAIR. I DO NOT BELIEVE THEY HAVE ANY INTENTION OF EVER REPAIRING THIS RECALL.

The components of my vehicle that were affected is from the power train and emissions.Honda issued an TSB on August 2023 for this. The warning light on my vehicle is now illuminated. I have a DTC code P0471 stored on my vehicles computer and can no longer pass a smog chech without the problem being repaired. This issue has impacted my vehicles torque converter. When I drive at high speeds my car shakes and I get a warning that says transmission system problem. Also the transmission slips and has poor fuel mileage. Honda extended the warranty for this part because it is prone to failure. My vehicle was diagnosed at Gardena Honda on Sep 4,2024. The service advisers confirmed that my vehicle has the issue that the warranty was extended on. However, due to my vehicle having a salvage title they will not honor that warranty. This issue should have been recalled instead of extending the warranty. Other pilot owners may pose a serious risk to themselves and others as Honda failed to notify myself and other about the risks of having a defective part on the vehicle. I can no longer drive my vehicle because of the risk involved. The dealer quoted me $5000.00 to repair. Federal law requires car manufacturers to repair any issues that arise from emissions regardless of bad title. Honda refused to repair on 9/4/2024.

Sitting stopped at a red light. These messages with the check engine light start scrolling on the dashboard: TSA, Emissions system problem, stability control, EPS, etc. it kept changing. When trying to go in drive to he engine had reduced power and I had to get out of the intersection quickly. The code to show up when scanned was P0369 camshaft sensor. Had the vehicle towed to Honda dealership to find out that other pilots in my same year model have this issue but my specific VIN was not included in the recall LVM or the service bulletin 19-045 even though the same year model is included.

When the idle stop feature is active the vehicle can stop, ceasing all functions, including steering and engine. The entire electrical system does not function, and the vehicle cannot be restarted. In order to restart the vehicle you are required to jumpstart the vehicle. This issue was not common during early ownership of vehicle, but has become more frequent with age. This is a safety issue as the vehicle can become inoperable in busy intersections.

I was stopped at a red light, the engine cycled down because of the environmentally friendly option. My foot was on the break. The transmission shifted to neutral and turned orange. I could not get it to shift back to Drive. I had to turn the car off and restart it. At that point I was able to put it in drive and move the car. This was very dangerous because I was on a busy highway and could have been rear ended by a driver not noticing the car was stopped and off.

Was in the middle of an intersection and pressed the button to turn off Engine Idle Mode as I have had instances where it was very slow to go when this mode is on and it delays getting out of the way of other drivers. When I pressed the Idle Off button - the car “shut down” and went into neutral. I could not get it out of neutral. Pressed D, R, P. Multiple times. Didn’t work. Had to press the turn off car button twice to turn off car then it finally restarted. I was stranded in the intersection and almost got hit by several cars. Once it started I pulled into a gas station and the radio stopped working. I turned off the car and restarted. Then the engine wasn’t shifting properly. Shut off the car again and went to the dealer. Dealer ran diagnostics and couldn’t find a problem. Checked the battery and all other items - no issues. Somebody is going to get killed and now I’m scared to drive my car.

I have had a recall that the dealer has renegged on helping me with. About a couple of years ago we scheduled appointments, we missed work, showed up at the appointments for our two cars, only to be told that the parts are on back order. We keep getting the same response over and over. The last time I called a couple of weeks ago, the service department hung up on me. I called back and asked to have the Service Manager call me. He did not return my call. I have left message for the general manager, and he has NOT returned my calls. I need my recall remedied. My vehicle sometimes hesitates to start and has acceleration issues.

for months Honda dealer has not yet resolved the two recalls indicating parts and instructions from Honda are not availalbe. Thus, the dealer is unable to resolve the recalls. This has been going on for months and is unacceptable. When the NHTSA issues a recall, why can't consumers get their recalls fixed ?

Today my 2018 Pilot EX-L suddenly started displaying these warnings: - Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) Problem - Hill Start Assist Problem - Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem - Power Steering System (EPS) Problem Looking at Honda Pilot Forums, it seems like it is a very common problem and has to do with Fuel Injectors as described by: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10187289-0001.pdf Many people have complained of this issue, here is one such blog of many many more: https://www.piloteers.org/threads/multiple-warning-lights.127665/ This should be a recall and not just an extension of warranty which shifts the burden of proof to the consumer. Please help Honda honor this warranty for my 4 year old pilot with only 47,463 miles on it.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

The adaptive cruise control doesn't work for the vehicle in front of me but the vehicle on the side. It will slam on the brakes when there is no vehicle in front of me but with a vehicle on the side. Tbsi has almost caused numerous accidents. The automatic braking/forward Collison warning happens when a vehicle is passing me going the oposite direction.

Vehicle was being driven in a construction zone on the highway when the CMBS (collision mitigation braking system) error message appeared on the dashboard. This is the 2nd occurrence of this issue (1st occurrence also happened while driving through construction zone) When error occurs all advanced safety features (auto-emergency braking, lane keep, etc) become disabled. I believe there is a fundamental design flaw in how Honda's Sensing system handles obstacles such as temporary construction zones. American Honda claims the only way to turn off the light is to pay a diagnostic fee and labor charge. A safety design flaw should not be the responsibility of the vehicle owner to pay to fix.

Just saw the article concerning the automatic braking in Honda CR-V's and Accords. Since purchasing my 2018 Pilot, in September 2018, this has occurred multiple times. While driving "Brake" will flash on my dash screen and a momentary braking action, along with a shimmy in the steering wheel will occur. I have never had a complete stop happen. I went to my local Honda dealers in Modesto and Stockton, CA. Spoke to their service personnel and they both had no idea what might cause this to happen. I then called Honda customer service and they hadn't heard of this problem. After it happened a few more times I called them again. I voiced my concerns of it happening and causing me to be involved in an accident. Laura, the rep I spoke to, gave me a case number (09698440) to reference should I call again. She could provide no explanation for this happening. This does not happen on a regular basis. I can go for long periods of time and nothing will happen. Then it can happen multiple times in a week.

The adaptive cruise control doesnt pick up a vehicle in my lane but a vehicle to either side of me and brakes hard. Also the automatic emergency braking will pick up vehicles in the opposite lane going past me and brake hard.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while approaching a stop, the contact attempted to accelerate however, there was a delay in responding. The contact stated that after a while the vehicle accelerated. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who admitted knowledge of similar failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 10,000. The consumer stated the vehicle now has 52k and still exhibits the 2-3 second hesitation when depressing the accelerator. The contact stated the vehicle has started to roll backwards on a hill. The vehicle has just less than 60k miles and has always been serviced by a dealership.

ALSO, THE RPMS INCREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HEADQUARTER HONDA (17700 FL-50, CLERMONT, FL 34711, (407) 395-7500) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT AN UNKNOWN PART ATTACHED TO THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,200.

My Honda Pilot 2018 is a modified vehicle with wheelchair ramp. It is in the recall list for Honda. Recall: swelling of fuel pump motor impeller, fuel pump may seize/stop working. Defective impeller may cause fuel pump inoperative, which could prevent engine from functioning. May cause a loss of motive power/stall while driving, increasing risk of crash or injury creating a safety hazard. -Replace the fuel pump motor. I contact the Honda dealer in San Jose, CA, but they were unable to perform Fuel Pump replacement due vehicle being modified. Tell me to find a dealer that specialize in accessible vehicle to removed cover on floor to access fuel pump then bring fuel pump to Honda for them to replace. DMV requires to perform recall to renew vehicle registration. I do not know which dealer I need to perform this recall.

I've brought the car to the Honda Dealer located at 2400 N State Rd 7 Hollywood FL 33021 for over a year I have complained that the car jumps and that there is a few recalls on my vehicle. I was told that the part isn't available and they can't fix it but did not offer any remedies to this issue. The car will shut off on me while I'm driving and it's very dangerous. I've mentioned this to them many times but they only try to convince me to buy another car and get me to trade in my car and pay a deposit.

when honda service perfomed the recall repair on 12/12/2024. We notice that there is something wrong with the vehicle and we immediately report to Honda service and return the vehicle the following day for further diagnosis but the Honda service failed to resolved the issue until now. We spend out of pocket payment for their recommended repair @ parts replacement . With hopefull promises to resolved the issue but this resulted to more repairs and no guarantee in resolving the issue. And this delay of resolving the issue causing much more concern on our safety onto what will happened as this issue was not resolved

The car since purchased was juddering between rpms, eventually the emissions and check engine light came on and prompted us to take to dealership. The dealership said this was part of a recall and both problems would be fixed at no cost and we would get an extended warranty on the parts and labor. That sounds great. The problem though is the pilot has been in the shop since January 29th! We have been given 4 different Eta's of when the part would come in and they all keep passing by! No end in sight.

Good afternoon, I would like to bring an issue to your attention and file a complaint on Honda Motor Company. Last week, I scheduled an appointment in the Service Department at Russell and Smith Honda to diagnose my 2018 Honda Pilot. My vehicle jerks when driving at a low speed. Russell and Smith diagnosis was a transmission oil flush and a system update with "recommendations to replace the battery and spark plugs" ; total charges to fix the problem was roughly $365 additional to the $110 that I paid for the diagnosis. That same day, I picked up my vehicle from Russell and Smith Honda and refused to pay because its a 2018 truck that I shouldn't be dealing with a transmission problem. As I was driving the truck back home, it started to turn off automatically and an engine light alert would turn on. The truck would start working after turning it back on. Two days after, I took it back to Russell and Smith Honda and advised them of the truck shutting down and I was notified to pay another $100 for a diagnosis which I refused to pay since it was recently diagnosed two days ago. This is putting my life at risk on the streets. The employee who assisted me went inside to ask a mechanic on duty and came back to notify me that I do need to pay for another diagnosis to determine whats wrong. I refused to pay and left the dealership. I called Honda Motor Company on 4/10/23 to advise them of the problem and they created a case #13752705 to further investigate and I advised them if not I will report it to NHTSA. Honda Motor Company requested a copy of the diagnosis and when I called them for an update, the case worker assigned to my case Samir stated they agreed to pay for the transmission flush and system update and they have notified Russell and Smith Honda. The next day I called Russell and Smith Honda to advise them that I will drop off the truck according to Honda Motor Company and they said I need to pay for the recommendations listed on the diagnosis first. The "start/stop" function has always been an issue and also the response to acceleration. Luckily the start/stop failed at the mailbox in front of our home. The car shut off just like at a light but instead of picking back up upon acceleration, it completely died. We have had it shutter and slowly pick up in an intersection before but we have learned to really over exert the acceleration to complensate. We have had the fuel pump recalled but i dont think it fixed our problem. Luckily nobody has been hurt yet, but this is my wife and eight year old daugthers car. We have had multiple warning lamps "fixed" in the past, but there are currently no indicators on the dash.

The Auto Engine Idle feature does not work properly. When the car is at a light, the engine idle is activated and the car is put into a slumber mode, when the brake is depressed. On occasion, when it is time to go, the car then turns off when the gas is depressed. This is extremely dangerous as then you are stuck at an active intersection and need to turn the car back on. I've discovered a wealth of other owners with this issue here. My issue is consistent with their reports. https://www.carproblemzoo.com/honda/pilot/car-stall-problems.php In my research, the Honda dealers are not doing anything to fix it, and there has been no thoughtful feedback from the company. I will be taking this to our dealer as well, but am not hopeful given that it appears to be a fundamental design / software issue, not repairable in the fields. I literally have found no evidence that it is fixable without maybe a software upgrade.

The back-up camera / navigation / infotainment screen is intermittently off. Without this screen one cannot get a camera view directly behind the car to back up, park, or see the rear position of the vehicle for loading and unloading. After visiting the dealership with an estimate of $2000 to $3000 for replacement, the message was clear they did not want to replace this part at a reasonable cost. On about 11/01/2023, this problem was taken to our dealership and it did re-occur at the dealership but does remain about 50% intermittent since the middle of 2023. When doing on-line searches, this must be a repeat problem for other Honda Pilot owners. Other manufacturers have implemented recalls for this same problem but not Honda to my knowledge. This vehicle now has about 60,000 miles on it; but this problem is a safety concern as well as a resale concern… but we would like to be able to keep it. This part seems to have been designed to be difficult to remove and replace with 5 separate cable connections, attached air vents, and without disassembling the two full panels across the full width of the dash. The dealer did remind us that this vehicle is out of warranty as well.

When the vehicle is turned off, the lights panel will flicker. You can hear the relays clicking behind the panel. The headlights will come on. The car alarm will go off at random. On average 7-10/per day. I’ve taken the vehicle to the dealer and there appears to be a back order of the part needed to fix the issue.

SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM CLEARS WHEN I TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART BUT I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO WORK OR NOT. CONTACTED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE- NO SATISFACTION.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Pilot. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the message stated that the transmission was overheating was displayed. The contact pulled over to the nearest exit to park the vehicle and allowed the engine to cool off. The contact then continued to drive; however, the message displayed after driving for a while, caused the contact to pull over and allow the engine to cool off again. The failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to East Coast Honda (8756A US Highway 17 Bypass South, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588); where it was diagnosed and determined that the rotors needed to be replaced and the transmission fluid needed to be flushed and refilled. The rotors had been replaced and the transmission was flushed and refilled. Approximately two weeks after receiving the repair, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the engine revved with an abnormally loud sound. The vehicle was taken to another dealer where the contact was informed that the failure was related to the recall; however, the part for the recall repair was not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 66,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

As I was coming to a stop light and started to slow down the automatic start/stop system engaged, but the light turned green and when I tried to accelerate the car was not running anymore lights I the dashboard where flashing that I needed to put vehicle in park to start back up. Our vehicle was almost impacted by the truck behind us because he assumed I would be able to speed up instead of having to come to a complete stop. This has happened at least 20 more times since then when I forget to turn off the automatic start/stop feature. It's always when I'm coming to a stop, the suv will not turn back on mostly its inconvenient to drivers behind me that feel I just didn't see the light turn green but a couple of times it has happened when approaching metering lights in the freeway where the cars behind me or in the lane next to me are ready to accelerate not knowing that my car will have to come to a complete stop because of this issue before I car start the car again.

Auto start stop function is activated at stop light. Upon releasing the brake to accelerate, the car shuts off completely and am unable to restart vehicle immediately. Requires me to push on/off button a few times to get vehicle back on and running.
Aug 07, 2022
I was stopped at a stop light and the car was in auto engine idle. After releasing the brake when the light turned green, the engine shut off and the dash told me to put the car in park and restart by pushing the brake and hitting the engine start button. This process took about 30 seconds for the car to finally restart and I was sitting in the middle of traffic with cars behind me that had anticipated me moving forward when the light changed. Several warning symbols popped up including the collision mitigation system. This is an easy way to get rear-ended. In other instances, I have had issues where the radio and engine shuts off after releasing the brake when in auto engine idle at a stop light or driving in slower traffic but it kicks back on in just a second with no need to stop and restart. Both of these issues are very concerning. Battery life is fine, so that is not the issue. Issue stops when auto engine idle is disabled.

Driving to work on the freeway, all of a sudden acceleration stopped. Pulled over as warning lights came on due to transmission. Additionally, the check engine light appears randomly due to emission and also the “AWD” light comes on. Within a few days or even weeks it turns off. This has been on and off since we purchased the vehicle from CarMax.

My transmission failed although it was scanned a few weeks earlier indicating no issues with the transmission. I was lucky that the car failed once I stopped and wouldn't shift back into gear however it could have failed while driving. The car was driving fine and was slightly slow to engage, but I believe that was due to the fuel pump recall, which I could not have fixed because of a shortage of parts. My concern is that the transmission would have failed during my trip while driving over the mountains. It would have been really dangerous. There appear to be problems with the transmission in the 2018 Honda Pilots.

There is an auto start/stop feature on my 2018 Honda Pilot. I’ve owned it new since July 2018. My wife and I have experienced the same issue both together and separately. The auto stop feature will engage with the break depressed, but the auto start function will not always engage when the break is released. This has left us stranded in the middle of intersections in the middle of left turns with oncoming traffic driving around us, stalled on the freeway with cars whizzing by us at 70+ MPH blocking the fast lane, blocking congested one lane roads with no recourse for drivers behinds to get around us, etc. This feature stops the engine but periodically does not allow it to turn back on. With the engine stopped by this feature, but not shifted to park/ neutral, pressing the ignition start/ stop button does nothing. Shifting to park, and pressing the ignition start/stop button significantly delays removing the road hazard now created by the vehicle’s now dangerous location. To further complicate the matter, the engine starting has, on many occasions, taken multiple minutes to start, endangering myself, my wife, my four children, and other family / friends on too many occasions to count. My local dealership recommended replacing the vehicles battery, even though I had no other battery related problems. I did, in fact, follow that recommendation, only to have the same problem persist. I have encouraged my wife to disengage this feature proceeding forward, but the feature automatically resets itself everyone the ignition is started. This becomes problematic if the feature is forgotten to be turned off or, due to placement of the features button, the feature is inadvertently re-engaged.

I am experiencing a delay in acceleration. This can occur when I am completely stopped and press the gas, there is a delay (3-5 seconds) and then the car jerks forward and accelerates quickly. Or, when I've slowed down to almost a stop, begin a turn, step on the gas and it won't accelerate for a couple of seconds, almost causing an accident on several occasions. This occurs about once every 10-15 times I drive the vehicle. It's unpredictable.

My wife was pulling into the dentist parking lot, made a slow right hand turn to a parking space when the vehicle suddenly and violently accelerated. Depressing and pumping brake had no effect and the car slammed into a tree destroying the right front of the vehicle. She assured me that she did not depress the accelerator. She is a very safe driver, never received a ticket nor involved in an accident. Research into similar accidents showed multiple cases where this occurred with Honda Pilot vehicles.

On multiple occasions the idle stop feature will engage and upon re-engage it will stall my vehicle. When I place the vehicle in park, press the brake and press the ignition start, nothing happens. Upon multiple attempts to restart the car it will either do nothing or making a chug without restarting. Continuing my attempts to restart the vehicle it will finally restart. During these times I will be stalled at a stop sign or traffic light with impatient drivers going around me. All the dashboard lights come on. I have taken it to the dealership, they stated they couldn’t duplicate the problem. This is unsafe for motorists or pedestrians. If this happens while I'm in an intersection or other location with moving traffic it could be very unsafe for myself, other motorists and/or pedestrians.

When vehicle comes to a stop, vehicle start/stop feature engages, then vehicle stalls. Vehicle then indicates that it should be shifter into park before it can be re-started. This has happened numerous times. Vehicle was brought into dealer, they are aware an investigation is underway with Honda but had no known solution besides updating the main computer program. They also recommended replacing the batter which tested ok. The fact that the vehicle stalls when you come to a stop is a very big safety concern.

PERHAPS THIS IS MEANT TO BE AN EMISSIONS CONTROL FEATURE, BUT IT COMES AT THE PRICE OF SAFETY. THIS "AUTO IDLE STOP" FEATURE MAKES THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE FOR FAMILIES. THERE SHOULD BE A PERMANENT ON/OFF SWITCH RATHER THAN HAVING TO TURN THIS FEATURE OFF EACH AND EVERY TIME I START THE VEHICLE. COMPLETELY UNSAFE!

2018 HONDA PILOT ELITE-- WHILE DRIVING ON A SMALL, CONGESTED, CURVY TWO-LANE ROAD, IN A POPULAR TOURIST DESTINATION, MY FRONTAL IMPACT SENSORS ALERTED ME TO FRONTAL IMPACT MULTIPLE TIMES BY SHAKING MY STEERING WHEEL. THE DASH LIGHTS ALSO FLASHED THE WORD "BRAKE" IN ORANGE AND BLACK. THIS SO-CALLED "SAFETY" FEATURE ALMOST CAUSE ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES ON THIS ROAD BECAUSE OF THE SHAKING STEERING WHEEL. THIS FRONTAL IMPACT ALERT ALWAYS OCCURRED WHEN A LARGE RV TYPE OF VEHICLE PASSED BY ME. ALTHOUGH I LATER DISCOVERED AN "OFF" SWITCH FOR THIS FRONTAL IMPACT ALERT SYSTEM, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO TURN OFF MULTIPLE "SAFETY" SENSORS EVERY TIME I START THE VEHICLE. IF YOU DO NOT TURN OFF THESE "SAFETY" SENSORS, THEY WILL ACTUAL CREATE UNSAFE CONDITIONS BY SHAKING YOUR STEERING WHEEL.

My wife was in an accident where she struck a vehicle crossing an intersection in front of her. She believed she was traveling at between 25-30 mph. Following the accident, the Honda Pilot dash indicated a problem with the airbag. My wife suffered bruising across her chest and her hips from the belt. After extensive repairs, documents attached, the dash continued to display a fault with the airbag system that was subsequently addressed by a local Honda dealership.

The car was placed in park, and somehow it rolled backwards into a gas station post causing serious damage. The very badly designed 9 speed transmission is designed to shift into park when the door is opened this is a safety feature that failed! My child could have been in there! It could have rolled back into the file pump! DANGEROUS! I have heard of others complaining this happened to them too. I have video evidence but I need to obtain it from the gas station it happened at.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving at 10 MPH during traffic, the vehicle hesitated, jerked, and suddenly accelerated. Multiple unknown warning lights illuminated. As a result, the vehicle rear-ended a U-Haul trailer that was in front, then crashed into a wall and from the impact into the trailer where it came to a stop. None of the air bags deployed. The contact suffered injuries to the head when she impacted the steering wheel, the right leg near the hip, and the right arm. The contact was taken to the hospital by an ambulance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the sensors on the vehicle malfunctioned weeks before the crash. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where unknown repairs were completed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The insurance company was contacted and pending results. The failure mileage was 26,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Pilot. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing engine hesitation while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the transmission fluid and the coolant were flushed. The contact was charged a service fee; however, the failure recurred while driving. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH on the third lane of an interstate with her children in the car seats in the rear seats, the vehicle made an abnormal clunking sound. The vehicle decelerated to 35 MPH abruptly, causing the driver's and passengers' seat belts to retract. The contact immediately depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to exceed 40 MPH, nearly causing a crash. The contact activated the hazard lights and drove to her husband's shop. The contact's husband cleared the diagnostic trouble codes, and the vehicle accelerated as needed while driving; however, the vehicle shuddered, made abnormal sounds, the engine had a misfire, and the vehicle stalled while driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the message "Emission System Problem" was displayed. The local dealer was contacted, and the contact was in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

My vehicle has been in the Honda Dealership (Honda of Fort Worth and Norm Reeves Honda) with no resolution to the engine failure issues I have had since purchasing my vehicle. Mainly in the heat of the summer if I was in traffic idling, stopped at a red light or in stop and go traffic my car would shut off and hesitate to restart. The collision mitigation system would show failed. Honda could never find a solution. The last time I had it in their shop they said I needed a new battery. I bought a new battery from them but the problem continued. I believe my car is part of the engine recall.

While driving my 2018 Honda Pilot I stopped in an intersection to make a turn and when I came to a complete stop my vehicle stopped running. Assuming it was the auto start/stop I released the brake and attempted to accelerate to complete my turn the vehicle failed to re-start and shuttered / stalled. I then could not get my vehicle to restart and had multiple warnings on my dash along with check engine light being lit. 1 of the errors showed "Emissions System Problem" as well as "Move vehicle to side of road and park". I could not get the vehicle to do anything even though it was already in parked from stalling out. I had to press Start/Stop button to turn my vehicle off completely for approx. 2 minutes and then was able to get vehicle restarted and then shifted to Drive to clear intersection. This has happened multiple times in different circumstances. I have had the vehicle back to Honda dealership twice and they said the do not see any issue or cannot get issue to repeat.

The original manufacturer windshield and the adhesive holding it to the body of the vehicle was improperly installed by the manufacturer allowing water to leak into the A-pillar of the driver's side down into the lower dash and foot well. Moisture and degradation of the factory installed windshield adhesive can cause electrical faults, mold, a loose windshield, and other issues that can disable the vehicle and/or cause bodily harm. The dealer noted and advised about the possibility of the adhesive degradation before the vehicle was inspected, which confirms this is a common issue with this vehicle. Upon inspection, they advised that the windshield adhesive was the issue. The issues/symptoms presented themselves during recent and prolonged rain events at which time it was reported to the nearest authorized dealer. The local dealer claims a crack in the windshield as the cause of the problems. Unfortunately, there are no cracks in the area where the leak is originating from. The vehicle leaks from the upper driver's side corner of the windshield, with the crack noted being on the lower mid section of the windshield. Water would not run up into the corner from where the adhesive leaks.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 MPH, the instrument panel illuminated with several unknown warning lights, and the check engine warning light. The vehicle sputtered, misfired, and slowly decelerated. The contact noticed that once the vehicle was idling, the sputtering ceased; however, once the tachometer was over 2,000 RPM or more the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the failure experienced was not related to the recall. The dealer diagnosed that the Cam Position Sensor sensor experienced intermittent signaling failure. The dealer diagnosed that the camshaft had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,198.

The wave radar came on during out travel. We traveled in south Dakota on through construction when the light came on. Now I went to the dealership to get an oil change and ask them about the error. I was informed the the wave radar part had been over worked and need to be replaced. Cost $1268.70. We never got in a collision. The part should not fail for being used causing the error message. I also belive it is a huge safety concern because I dont know if the collision system will work. The second issue we are having with the vehicle is that we turned it in for the recall for the idle stop function. It continues to turn off our vehicle at stoplights and on stops on s hill. I dont feel safe operating this vehicle with me and my family.

I have taken my 2018 Honda Pilot several times to the Honda Dealer, and they have failed to fix what appears to be a transmission problem with the vehicle. The transmission is burning transmission fluid. The vehicle makes a grinding sound when you shift gears. The gears feel like they are catching when you change them, The transmission gears shift appears to be delayed, slipping/jerking and pulling. This situation is very dangerous to me, my children, and the public. The Honda dealer appears to be stalling, so the vehicle runs out of the warranty. They do little to fix the problem; they keep charging me money and repeatedly replacing the burnt transmission fluid. This vehicle has a lemon transmission that they need to replace. Please help investigate this common problem that so many people are complaining about, and Honda keeps ignoring or excusing the complaints. They are selling unsafe vehicles. The incident/issue is contimous, they have NOT fix the issue. Please review the attached documents. Please contact me with some that can speaks Spanish or is able to translate. Thanks

Unknown. I was using cruise control maintaining approx 60mph. The car in front of me started to slow and I tapped the brake to disengage cruise control. The car lunged forward and the accelerator went towards the floor. I tried to turn the car off and the push button did not respond. As my speed increased I narrowly missed rear ending cars in front of me as I swerved in and out of lanes, with the brake pedal not responding. I drove into the dirt medium of the road on the left and pushed the shift into park and the car eventually slowed to a stop. I was very shook up and sat in this dangerous area until I was calm enough to start the car and see if I could get across the highway to an exit. I tried turning the car off twice before attempting this to see if I could get it to respond. Both times it responded and the light on the dash indicated to put it into Park. I made it across the highway to an exit where I drove around a parking lot for 1/2 hr turning the car on & off to see if it was safe to get it home. I did not touch cruise control again. It was nothing short of a miracle that I didn’t kill anyone on the road or myself.

While driving, the transmission would not gear up to any higher gears and could only drive 40mph with 3000+ RPMS. The MIL lights showed "Check Engine," "Emissions System Problem," "Transmission System Problem," and "Blind Spot Info System Problem," all at once. When pressing the "P" button for Park, it did not always want to engage in Park. The engine would sometime stutter on acceleration. The "P" and "D" for Park and Driver on the MIL would constantly blink. This action placed the driver and occupants at risk of injury because of the stutter and slow speeds on the highway. Also, when the "Park" button did not engage, the car was at risk of rolling into person or property. Currently, service has been scheduled for the dealership to diagnose the issue. There were no warning signs prior to all of these warning lights showing up all at once.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 MPH, she depressed the brake pedal and noticed that her vehicle was not slowing down. The contact stated that as she was approaching another vehicle, she looked to make sure she was indeed depressing the brake pedal, however it would not allow her to press down and seemed to be accelerating faster than 40 MPH. The contact stated that her vehicle then caused her to crash into the rear of another vehicle, however, the vehicle still seemed to be accelerating, even though it had crashed. The contact stated that she attempted to power the vehicle off, however, the vehicle powered itself back on. The contact stated that she powered it off 3 times before the vehicle would remain off. The contact stated that the airbags did deploy and there were no injuries reported. The contact stated a police report was filed. The contact stated she then had her vehicle towed to a tow yard where it was deemed a total loss. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

My transmission is having problems. During acceleration the car will jolt forward, also when using the brakes. The dealer did recognize the problem but said it is not covered by warranty and that transmission needed to be flushed.. which was going to cost $500. He said had it been flushed before they may cover it, yet Honda doesn’t recommend a flush before 45000 per my owners manual. Very dangerous.. could cause an accident with Speed going up and down at a moments notice without you doing it

While stopped at a stop light/sign the engine stalls, dies, shifts to neutral (push button shift) leaving me disabled in the middle of the road. This issue has also occurred while slowing to take a sharp corner. The engine died at approximately 25 mph while slowing for the corner. I had taken it to the dealership and they claimed they could not reproduce the problem. I took the vehicle home, then later that day I drove it approximately 17 miles to a racetrack that I work at part time. At 12:30 am, I was leaving to head home, and while idling in the parking lot, it had died yet again and took several minutes to restart. Once it did restart, I had no throttle response in park, neutral or in drive. I shut the vehicle off and restarted it with no other issues for the 17 mile trip back home. The dealership suggested that I take picture/video when it happens, which poses another safety concern to do that in the event I am driving when this event occurs. This is a severe safety concern as there is the potential for the engine to die/stall during a hard braking event in which I could lose power brakes. Only the dealership has inspected the vehicle, and the only lights that have been illuminated on the dash was the battery light and the caution light. This issue has been going on for approximately a month and a half. After completing some research, I have noticed there is a large collection of this or very similar complaints.

THE DEALER SAID THAT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN TO THEM WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, SO THERE'S NOTHING TO FIX & HONDA CORPORATION SAID THE DEALER COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING TO FIX. ONE NIGHT WHEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IT IT STOPPED RAINING BUT WAS VERY MUGGY AND THERE WAS MOISTURE ON THE WINDSHIELD THE AUTOMATIC WIPERS DID NOT COME ON AND THE DEFROST DID NOT WORK - THIS WAS OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL HOURS OF DRIVING TRYING DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES ON DEFROST AND NOTHING HELPED. EVEN WITH THE WIPERS ON MANUALLY, VISIBILITY WAS POOR. ALSO, ONE DAY AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING ALL DAY I DROVE IT 20 MILES AND THE CAR DID NOT COOL DOWN - I HAD TO RUN THE AIR CONDITIONER ON FULL BLAST THE WHOLE TIME. THE CAR IS NOT COOLING LIKE IT SHOULD! OF COURSE, WHEN THEY TRIED IT OUT IT HAD ACTUALLY ALREADY BEEN DRIVEN 20 MILES TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE AIR IN EARLY MORNING AND THEN THE HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT TESTED IT OUT, THERE WAS COOL AIR AND SAID IT'S BLOWING JUST FINE NOW.

ON SATURDAY I WAS DRIVING MY 10 MONTH OLD 2018 HONDA PILOT WITH APPROX. 7,000 MILES ON IT TO AIRPORT TO PICK UP MY DAUGHTER. MY HUSBAND AND 3 YOUNG KIDS WERE MERGING ONTO AIRPORT PROPERTY ON A EXTREMELY BUSY AFTERNOON, MY VEHICLE STALLED. IT WAS LIKE A COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE. I WAS LEFT STRANDED AT 7PM, IN DARK, WITH 3 SCARED CHILDREN, UNABLE TO ALERT OTHER HOSTILE DRIVERS AROUND ME BY TURNING ON FLASHERS. AFTER NOT BEING ABOUT TO PUSH VEHICLE OUT WAY OF HEAVY TRAFFIC, I WAS FORCED TO CALL MY INSURANCE COMPANY FOR ASSISTANCE WHICH PROVED TO BE A SERIOUS CHALLENGE DUE TO THE HORNS AND DEROGATORY LANGUAGE OF OTHER DRIVERS AND AS A RESULT MY CHILDREN HAVING AN EMOTIONAL BREAKDOWN IN THE BACK SEAT. MY HUSBAND WAS FORCED TO LEAVE THE KIDS AND I IN THIS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN ORDER TO GET TO OUR 14 YR OLD DAUGHTER (TRAVELING ALONE) OFF HER FLIGHT. ONCE POLICE ARRIVED, THEY PARKED UNIT BEHIND ME IN ORDER TO PROTECT US FROM BEING HIT. THE POLICE SEARCHED MANUAL AND INTERNET AND WERE UNABLE TO GET VEHICLE INTO EMERGENCY NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE DRUG ONTO TOW TRUCK AND TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. 2 DAYS LATER, HONDA INFORMED ME IT WAS A "DEAD BATTERY." "BATTERY?" I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 20 YEAR AND HAVE NEVER BEEN LEFT ON HIGHWAY, IN MOTION DUE TO A BATTERY. AFTER SOME READING OF MY OWN, I LEARNED ABOUT A FUEL SAVING FEATURE ON MY CAR CALLED "AUTO IDLE-STOP". WITH THIS FEATURE MY ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHEN BRAKE COMPRESSED IN ORDER TO SAVE ON FUEL. WITH A DEAD BATTERY, THE BATTERY WAS UNABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE. SO BASICALLY THIS FUEL SAVING FEATURE TURNS OUT TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE INSTEAD OF BEING STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT , I WAS STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY. AFTER FURTHER READING ABOUT THIS FEATURE, I LEARNED THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE AUTOMATICALLY ENABLED THIS AUTO-IDLE IF BATTERY CHARGE WAS LOW, WHICH DID NOT HAPPEN.
