I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND STARTED TO PRESS ON THE GAS AND THE RPM WENT UP REALLY HIGH AND MY CAR WASN'T MOVING. I WAS GETTING ONTO A MAIN HIGHWAY. I HAD LOTS OF CARS BEEPING AT ME. IT WAS SCARY BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO BE STUCK THERE FOREVER.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IS MAGICALLY STOPPED ACCELERATING GOING 55 MPH ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY IN THE COUNTRY. THERE ARE/WERE NO ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE AS THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD OR REVERSE AS I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL. CREDIBLE/NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED VEHICLE REPAIR SHOP STATED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACEMENT (123,500 MILES).

VEHICLE STOPS MOVING RANDOMLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND MUST BE RESTARTED TO GET IT TO MOVE. WILL BARELY ACCELERATE AND RPMS ARE EXTREMELY HIGH ST LOW SPEEDS. VEHICLE SURGES AND WON'T ACCELERATE. HORRIBLE WHINING NOISES. VEHICLE STALLS, OR WON'T MOVE WHEN TRYING TO ASCEND UP HILL OR WHEN ENTERING THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT MULTIPLE TIMES DUE TO THESE PROBLEMS. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO THER MECHANIC TWICE AND HAD THE COMPUTER RUN DIAGNOSTICS. THE CAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS IS THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THERE ARE NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF THIS PROBLEM REGARDING THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS.

We had our Jeep at the local mechanic for a pre winter check up. He found the rear crossmember broken and the front crossmember had holes in it due to corrosion. The vehicle has 211,000 km on it and we’ve owned since new with zero collisions or even a fender bender. Jeep had an extended warranty on these pcs but has denied our claim as 10 years have passed. In my mind this is a safety issue as the wheel assembly could physically break free causing loss of control of the vehicle. These are parts related to the structural integrity of the vehicle and not a normal wear and tear item. This vehicle has been serviced by our local journeyman mechanic licensed in Alberta. It was at our local dealership on September 15/2017 for a recall but there is no record of inspection of these crossmembers. Jeep service bulletin dated march 10/2017 states that the affected vehicles should have these parts inspected and replaced if necessary..also to add, we never received any correspondence from Jeep asking to bring the vehicle in for inspection. The vehicle has been parked for several days now as both our mechanic and myself believe it’s not safe to be on the road. I’ve gotten nowhere with the district warrant manager or their customer care line staff. I’m reaching out as I believe this is a serious issue and should be a safety recall rather than a service bulletin.

WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, THE CAR STARTED TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP, IT WAS PUSHING FORWARD BUT JUST ENOUGH FOR ME TO GET OUT OF THE ROAD INTO A GAS STATION. WHEN I FINALLY STOPPED, I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. IT WOULD START BUT WOULD NOT MOVE. TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THAT WHAT THEY SAID IS THE PROBLEM. I ONLY HAVE ABOUT 160K MILES AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION SO SOON!

I WAS JUST GIVEN AN ESTIMATE FOR A ROTTED SUBFRAME OF ABOUT 800 FOR THE PART ALONE. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED IN SEVERAL JEEPS. I'M CONTACTING THE DEALER AS WELL. MY JEEP ALSO NEEDS TO HAVE THE REAR SUBFRAME ALSO LOOKED AT.

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving over a railroad track at approximately 15 MPH, the vehicle suddenly decelerated and was difficult the steer. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer, who diagnosed that the front subframe had failed due to severe corrosion, causing damage to the engine bay, and causing the engine and transmission to lower. The subframe and front lower control arms were replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. Recently, while the vehicle was in for routine maintenance, the contact was informed that the rear subframe was corroded. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 98,500.

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle rear end swerved to the right while driving straight. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact regained control and stopped the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the rear underside was severely rusted; causing the rear suspension to separate from the under body. The contact was able to drive to his residence. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000.

Please require Jeep/Stallantis to initiate a recall for all 2008-2012 Jeep Compass' impacted by excessive corrosion to the subframe and front/rear cross members due to an inadequately designed AC drain located right above the vehicle subframe. Condensation from the AC drain drips directly onto critical frame structures. Therefore, excessive and premature rusting to the front & top sides of the subframe occurs because the subframe is constantly wet with the operation of the AC, as well as during the winter months while dehumidifying the air. Of course, road salt throughout the winter in the “salt” states further exacerbates the problem. Extensive rust to the subframes have deemed the vehicles unsafe to drive despite being in otherwise good condition w/ reasonable miles. No safety/dashboard lights, warnings, or operational concerns were present indicating potential safety concerns until the driver either experienced a dangerous driving situation or failed a vehicle inspection. Jeep has known about the significant safety implications, yet failed to effectively remediate critical safety concerns. Although Jeep extended a Front and Rear Crossmember Warranty (X69 Warranty), they neglected to properly notify vehicle owners of the extension. They did not make any type of public announcement to inform or warn drivers of the critical safety issues, did not notify owners of access to free yearly inspections to monitor the subframe. Owners using independent mechanics rather than OEM Jeep dealers have not been afforded the same opportunity to access the X69 Warranty Extension & inspections. Jeep has yet to demonstrate sufficient accountability for the ongoing critical safety and security concern. Acknowledging an insufficient AC drain design and issuing a recall for the AC drain, subframe, and front/rear cross members affirm they stand behind their brand, reputation, & value passenger and vehicle safety.

while running errands, a woman pointed out to me that i had dropped the rear passenger side control arm. she was very concerned about me driving it. i assured her i understood. and that with a mile to drive, i would use flashers and drive slowly. the following day my Compass was brought to my mechanic. i received a phone call i never expected! the rear crossmember was rusted out, and the subframe. above that, there was nothing to bolt to! the car was scrap- and, yes, it is available for inspection. this absolutely is a safety issue. the steering became unpredictable, harder to control. i could have lost a wheel, caused an accident that could have been fatal! the disabled car should not be on the road. i did visit the dealership local to me. i carried with me a TSB dated March 2017 about this very issue. i was told my car was "old" and did i get it serviced there? unfortunately, no, i bought it used 2 years ago. there had been a 10 year warranty extension and now my car was out of warranty? i had no notification. and, even so, why would Jeep deliberately ignore all the complaints on THEIR forums? three people at that dealership knew of this problem and said there was nothing they could do. my car is a 2011, i am a risk-free driver, no accident history. the car itself is clean. there is 40,000 miles on it. the previous owner was meticulous with service calls, getting recalls fixed, oil changes etc. the car was solid when i bought it. i did not abuse, misuse, or neglect my Compass in any way. this is a defect on the manufacturer's end. the folks on your very site are detailing the same severe corrosion. the 2011 and 2012 Compasses and 2011-2012 Patriots were affected. there are forums with owners trying to get compensated, trying to bring attention to this.

The suspension has completed rusted through. My mechanic can stick his arm all of the way through. There was a recall on other VINs but not mine so far. There needs to be one since I wasn't told about this safety problem until my mechanic went to replace other parts. I was never told this through any means. Jeep needs to do better. I am now out of a car and will have to pay thousands just to get the parts fixed.

In 2019 my 2011 jeep compass front subframe rusted really bad which cause corrosions. I called Chrysler and advise if there was a recall on this and they told me no. I paid for the repair to get it fix, fast forward to today I took my car in for an oil change and was informed the rear subframe has now rotted and is also causing corrosion. I called Jeep and was advise the recall expired in 2021 and there is nothing they can do. Please be mindful that I was told that there was no recall on this back in 2019 when I called. It is very unsafe for me to drive with my 4 year old in the car knowing that my subframe is severely rotted which is causing corrosions. jeep was not willing to help with this recall and I think it’s insane due to it being a safety issue

THE CONTACT STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY A YEAR LATER THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND BALL JOINT FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO STATED THE IDLE ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT A PIECE OF SHARP METAL WAS CUTTING INTO THE BALL JOINT RUBBER BOOT. THE CONTACT FOUND AN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 03V328000 (SUSPENSION) ONLINE WHICH COULD BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE CONTACTED BICAL CHEVROLET OF VALLEY STREAM (709 W. MERRICK RD, VALLEY STREAM, NY 11580) WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. SEVERAL TIMES AFTER FILLING UP MY 2011 JEEP COMPASS WITH GAS, I TURN THE CAR ON AND DRIVE OFF. IN MINUTES THE STEERING LOCKS UP AND CAR STALLS. CAR IS GETTING POWER, ALL COMPONENTS ARE STILL WORKING (LIGHTS, RADIO, ETC.). I TURN CAR OFF AND RESTART AND IT SPUTTERS AND FINALLY STARTS AND IS DRIVABLE. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE AND IT IS DANGEROUS DUE TO THE STEERING LOCKING UP AND THE INABILITY TO CONTROL THE CAR WHEN IT STALLS.

MY 2011 JEEP COMPASS FAILED INSPECTION SINCE IT NEEDS A CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT. WHEN I CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS ONE STARTED IN MARCH OF 2019, HOWEVER, MY VIN # DOES NOT QUALIFY. SINCE I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL, I FEEL THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE ADDED AND THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS.

FOR OVER TWO YEARS MY AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON. I TRIED TO LOCATED THE A POSSINLE FUSE BUT FOUND THE FUSE BOX WAS MISLABLED ON THE DIAGRAM. CHECK YOU TUBE AND DIAGRAM IN MANUAL DID NOT MATCH. SO I LIVED WITH THE ISSUE BECAUSE FOR INSPECTION IT DID NOT AFFECT EMMISSIONS. NOW THAR I AM PASSING THE VEHICAL TO MY DAUGHTER I FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE AIRBAG AND SEATBELT ALONG WITH A STEERING NUT TO CHECK. I WANT THE VWHICLE TO BE SAFE FOR HER. I ALREADY PUT A LOT OF MONEY INTO THE JEEP FROM A NEW TRANSMISSION, WIRING CONCERNS LOCATED UNDER DRIVERS FRONT TIRE, TIMING BELT AND GENERAL MAINTAINANCE.

HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL ISSUES, HEADLIGHTS NOT WORKING, INTERIOR LIGHTS WORK AND THEN DONT, DASHBOARD LIGHTS WORK AND THEN DONT. HAD ENGINE LIGHT COME ON BUT WHEN I TIGHTENED GAS CAP IT WENT OFF. STARING HAVING REALLY HARD TIME UPON ACCELERATION, FELT LIKE THE ENGING WAS WORKING REALLY HARD AND THEN ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID HE WAS SURE IT WAS TIPM AND WAS TRYING TO SEE IF HE COULD FIX IT WITHTOUT TOTAL REPLACEMENT. TURNS OUT ACTUATORS ARENT FIRING BECAUSE TIPM IS A TOTAL WASH AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT FOR 1100 BECAUSE ITS OUT OF WARRANTY. CAR ONLY HAS 72,000 MILES. I HEAR CHEROKEE AND DURANGO HAD RECALLS.

WHILE IN MOTION, I NOTED A TRANSMISSION TEMP WARNING LIGHT, AND A TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, WHILE MY CAR WENT INTO A NEUTRAL LIKE STATE, WHICH THE MANUAL STATES IS A SAFETY MODE. DIAGNOSTICS INDICATED A COMMUNICATION ERROR, AND IT WAS INDICATED I NEEDED A NEW TIPM MODULE. I HAD THIS REPLACED AT A JEEP DEALER. AFTER REPAIR, I CONTINUED TO INTERMITTENTLY GET THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, BUT WITH NO CHANGE TO VEHICLE PERFORMANCE. BACK TO SHOP, DIAGNOSIS INDICATED COMMUNICATION ERROR. WHILE IN MOTION AGAIN, CHECK ENGINE, TRANSMISSION TEMP AND TRACTION CONTROL ILLUMINATED, AND I LOST ALL POWER. BACK TO SHOP, CONTINUE TO HAVE COMMUNICATION ERROR. ALL OTHER DIAGNOSTICS ARE FINE. MECHANIC NOTED THIS IS COMMON AMONG THIS MAKE/MODEL. I PERFORMED RESEARCH AND NOTED MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REGARDING TIPM MODULE. I FOUND THAT CHRYSLER HAD RECALLED SAME PART ON DURANGO AND GRAND CHEROKEE, BUT NOT OTHER MODELS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND UNSAFE. I HAVE SPENT A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY ON AN ISSUE THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF. MY VEHICLE IS STILL NOT FUNCTIONAL.

RECALL FOR OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER FAILURE WAS ANNOUNCED BY CHRYSLER OVER 2 YEARS AGO AND I RECEIVED A NOTICE IN THE MAIL OVER A YEAR AGO THAT MY 2011 JEEP COMPASS WAS INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. THIS MEANS THAT MY SEAT BELT AND FRONT AIRBAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, LEAVING ME AND MY FAMILY SUBJECT AT AN INCREASE FOR SEVERE INJURY OR FATALITY. I HAVE INQUIRED ABOUT A REPAIR AND WAS TOLD BY MY LOCAL DEALER, CAPITAL CHRYSLER, JEEP, DODGE THAT THE FIX HAD NOT BEEN RELEASED YET BUT THEY HAD SCHEDULED IT FOR A FIX OF THIS PROBLEM (4/4/17) WHILE IT WAS IN FOR ANOTHER ISSUE. THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT THE FIX HAD NOT BEEN RELEASED BY MOPAR, NOT THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. IT REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC). I CONTACTED CAPITAL AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART HAD NOT BEEN RELEASED YET AND THAT THE CARD HAD BEEN MAILED TO ME FROM MOPAR. The rear subframe and suspension are rusted. I have been hearing a rattling sound for the past couple of weeks, especially when driving over bumps. When I took the car to my mechanic, he detected a cracking in the rear subframe/suspension due to the rust. If this would totally break it would be a substantial safety risk to myself, the driver, as well as other drivers on the road. No warning lights or messages appeared on the car to warn of this problem.

My mechanic reported that car's rear control arm has broken away from frame of car and is a very unsafe condition to use. No warning was given. Was found during normal inspection on mechanics lift. Manufacturer would not help during owners notification of problem but recognized the seriousness of the problem. Dealer has not been notified just my mechanic professional's recommendation.

The contact stated that upon taking her vehicle to an independent mechanic to have the wheels aligned, she was informed that the work could not be performed due to severe subframe corrosion. The vehicle was then taken to a second independent mechanic who provided the same diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.

AFTER EVERY SINGLE TIME I FUEL UP MY CAR, THE WHOLE CAR SPUTTERS. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN AND HAD MY OIL CHANGED AND RECEIVED A TUNE UP. LAST WEEK, AFTER HAVING ALL OF THIS WORK DONE, I GO TO FILL UP MY TANK, I TURN THE CAR ON IT SPUTTERS AS I ACCELERATE OUT OF THE GAS STATION, THEN I PULLED OUT ONTO A VERY BUSY STREET TO DRIVE HOME AND NOT EVEN A QUARTER MILE DOWN THE ROAD MY CAR STALLS OUT, POWER STEERING IS LOST, AND I ALMOST GET HIT FROM ON COMING TRAFFIC DUR TO ME LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. Rust thru/failure of the front cross member subframe. I noticed a clicking/rubing sound coming from the front of my 2011 Jeep Compass. Over several days it got worse. I took the car to the same dealership that I bought the car from new and was told it was a rust thru on the subframe and that the car was not safe to drive. At this point there were NO warning lights or other indication that the front end was approaching a catastrophic failure. I contacted Jeep and was told that a special 10 year extended warranty had expired in 2022. The dealer offered no help in covering the cost either. I was never informed about the extended warranty, or I would have had the car checked. The thing that really makes me mad is the rust thru occurred on only one side because the A/C drain was routed so it dripped condensation onto the frame on that side. I have the subframe and have included pictures.

(AMONG OTHER PROBLEMS), THIS 2011 JEEP COMPASS HAS TRANSMISSION DIFFICULTIES. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED TO SHIFT FROM GEAR TO GEAR WITHOUT MANUAL ASSISTANCE. IT WILL WHINE AND STRAIN AND JUST NOT CHANGE, EVEN AS THE RPM CLIMB SKY HIGH, IT WILL NOT SHIFT WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. THIS FAILURE WAS FIRST DOCUMENTED ON 6/19/11 BUT THERE WERE MULTIPLE FAILURE BEFORE THIS DATE. THE SYSTEM FAILURE HAS RESULTED IN A REDUCTION OF POWER TO SUCH EXTENT THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO SAFELY MERGE INTO A LANE OF TRAFFIC. 2011 JEEP COMPASS, A RENTAL VEHICLE. THE FRONT RIGHT SEAT SAFETY BELT, WHILE APPEARING TO BE BUCKLED, WAS NOT SECURELY FASTENED. WHEN THE VEHICLE CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP, THE BELT UNBUCKLED ALLOWING THE PASSENGER TO MOVE FORWARD TOWARDS THE DASHBOARD. NO INJURIES RESULTED FROM THE INCIDENT. UPON INVESTIGATION IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE OUTER PLASTIC CASING OF THE BUCKLE RECEPTACLE WAS NOT IN THE CORRECT POSITION. THIS PIECE WAS MOVED BY HAND INTO THE CORRECT POSITION, AND THE BELT THEN APPARENTLY OPERATED APPROPRIATELY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE RENTAL PERIOD. *KB

The contact stated while his son was exiting the parking lot and driving approximately 15-25 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently stalled and the steering wheel locked-up. The contact did not know whether there were warning lights illuminated. The contact's son was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact stated his son was able to restart the vehicle and drove to his destination. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving. The contact's son was able to restart the vehicle and drove to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the roll over bent valve in the fuel tank was not closing properly leaking fuel into the EVAP system causing the vehicle to stall and lock the steering wheel. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. A case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

After 4 years of driving my 2011 Jeep Compass and hitting 95,000 miles on it, I noticed that there were problems with filling up my tank and my car stalling. If I don't stop the gas pump myself, a few seconds after pulling out of the gas station my car would stall and idle until my engine would just shut off and my wheel and break would lock. This happened while entering a highway, going into a busy intersection, and trying to get out of large mall space. In all of these settings, I was inches away from a car crash. I have brought this up to multiple mechanics who have never heard of this problem and weren't sure what to do. After doing my own research I realized that this is a common Chrysler/Jeep issue with models made between 2005-2015 models. There are no warning lamps, messages, or any signals that my car is going to stall and idle. I could not imagine a larger safety risk to myself, my passengers, and all of the drivers around me. Last week after filling up my tank and intentionally not filling it up all the way, I thought I was safe to drive home but I was wrong. As I was crossing the intersection five-way traffic, my car began to stall as a semi-truck was heading right into me. Thankfully, I shut my engine off and quickly turned it back on to move out of the middle of the road.

I HAD THE BODY/MECHANIC SHOP TAKE A LOOK AT IT WHILE REPAIRING THE BODY, AND THEY HAD NO FOR SURE ANSWER. I HAVE HAD 5 DIFFERENT MECHANICS LOOK AT IT AND HAD MY CODES RAN MORE THAN ONCE. DRY, HOT SURFACE ON HIGHWAY. IN CONSTRUCTION MOVING THROUGH STOP AND GO AS TWO MAJOR ROUTES WERE MERGING. APPROACHED AREA GOING UNDER A OVERPASS, SLIGHT DOWNWARD AND SWEEPING LEFT CURVE. SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH OFF AND ON DUE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC FLOW. GENTLY DEPRESSED BRAKE TO SLOW THEN WENT TO GENTLY ACCELERATE AND CAR JUST QUIT, HAD NO ACCELERATION. LOOKED AT INSTRUMENT PANEL AND ESC LIGHT IS ON. BE PUT HAZARDS ON, PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED. EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL. TRULY TERRIFYING AS THERE WOULD BE NO WAY FOR A TOW TO EVEN GET TO ME OR FOR ME TO GET OUT OF THE CAR! VEHICLE DASH RED LIGHTNING AND STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS TURNED ON WITH WARNING CHIME UPON BRAKING AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT ON THE FREEWAY OFF RAMP WHILE EXITING INTERSTATE 10. THIS WAS ACCOMPANIED WITH ROUGH ENGINE IDLE AND LACK OF POWER FOR ACCELERATING. TURNING THE ENGINE OFF FOR A MINUTE AND RESTARTING SEEMS TO CLEAR THESE WARNING LIGHTS AND VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO NEAREST CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER WITH DIAGNOSTICS COMPLETED AND THE MASS FLOW SENSOR REPLACED. ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN THE FOLLOWING WEEK. I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE SAME CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER WITHOUT SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE SO THAT THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN COULD READ THE ERROR CODES AND OBSERVE/DOCUMENT THE WARNING LIGHTS LIT IN THE DASH. A THIRD VISIT TO THE SAME SERVICE CENTER RESULTED IN THE REPLACEMENT OF THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN WITHIN TWO WEEKS AFTER THE MOST RECENT SERVICE VISIT. I HAD MENTIONED TO THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT I HAD ONE INCIDENT PRIOR TO THE INITIAL EVENT FOR THIS ISSUE OF BRAKING HARD WHICH MOST LIKELY ENGAGED THE ABS-ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. THE SERVICE ADVISOR DID NOT SEEM TO BELIEVE THERE MIGHT BE A CONNECTION BETWEEN THIS INCIDENT AND THIS ISSUE. THIS ISSUE OCCURS SEVERAL TIMES EACH WEEK AND ONLY UPON STOPPING AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY. VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY DURING STREET DRIVING WITH NO PROBLEMS. WHEN THIS ISSUE DOES OCCUR, PULLING INTO A NEARBY GAS STATION AND SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE SEEMS TO RESET EVERYTHING WITH THE VEHICLE OPERATING NORMALLY AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE. FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I REFUELED MY VEHICLE ALL THE WAY TO FULL. I DROVE OFF AND GOT ON THE HIGHWAY ON-RAMP, WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING, THE CAR SHUT OFF, LOCKED UP THE STEERING AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE, AND THE KEY WAS STILL IN THE IGNITION. I QUICKLY STOPPED THE CAR, PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE CAR, GOT ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE INCIDENT DIDN'T OCCUR AGAIN. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I REFUELED UNTIL THE TANK WAS FULL, DROVE ABOUT 100 YARDS, AND THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE STILL IN DRIVE WITH KEYS IN IGNITION AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE I WAS GOING AROUND A SHARP TURN. I COULD HAVE DIED IF ANOTHER CAR CAME AROUND THE TURN AT THAT TIME. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WITHIN 50 FEET. AFTER THAT, RESTARTING IT A SECOND TIME I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR WITHOUT IT HAPPENING AGAIN. SCARED TO REFILL THE CAR AGAIN. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE 102, DRIVING POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 75 MPH. AFTER 1 1/2 HOURS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON SAYING TRANSMISSION FLUID OVERHEATED, THE SPEED AUTOMATICALLY DROPPED TO 55 MPH. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE AND ENGINE STALLED. AFTER 30 MINUTES ENGINE STARTED. TOOK TO JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID COMMON PROBLEM AND THEY COULD REPAIR IT FOR $1,000. I SAID THE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAID NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY ADVISED I DRIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND MAKE FREQUENT STOPS TO AVOID THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES. I HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME NATURE ONLINE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. IT IS A SEVERE SAFETY PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM VEHICLE IS A 2011 FWD JEEP COMPASS. ON 5/31/11 WITHIN THE FIRST 10 (TEN) MILES OF OWNERSHIP THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT ON ME WHILE STROPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT WITHOUT ANY DIFFICULTY. ON 6/19/11 (WHILE IN MOTION), WITHOUT ANY ADVANCE INDICATION OF A PROBLEM THE VEHICLE TOTALLY LOST POWER. 2011 Jeep Compass with 62,000 miles on it the subframes rod about the wheel almost fell off the arm that holds the wheel fell off the rear frame and that could have caused the real big accident accident would have lost control of the vehicle and they told and dealership told me that the warranty expired 2 years ago it was a 10-year extension on it so they did not do it it's because they used cheap metal and they know they did but they will not fix it I just fixed the rear subframe and all parts going to it and all bolts cost me 1500 dollars I do not think that's fair I hope you look into it because they are robbing people thank you I hope you can do something about it and I can get reimbursed and have my front one fixed too because that is rotted out too I just don't have the money to do both

-The vehicles front subframe failed to support the vehicles stability, structure, weight, and momentum, during normal driving ,braking, acceleration from a stop, etc. -The corroded and complete 'rusted thru metal' subframe is available for visual/safety inspection, and photo's are attached. - Safety was severely compromised while driving, as the "Subframe to main channel frame" fastening bolt was sheared and broken off while driving, causing the vehicle to veer, without control, due to the engine weight and front end suspension/components shifting out of position. - Independent service centers and auto- mechanic statements in multiple car safety forums have indicated similar situations have occurred, and could be fatal at highway speeds/conditions. - The vehicle is scheduled for dealership inspection and consultation for further use, and/or repair. -No warning lights were initiated at time of this issue. Steering wheel vibration, and loss of steering control occurred.

Wife was driving her jeep when she started to veer to the left. went to turn to steering to get straight when it wasn't responding a lot of slack in the steering. called a tow truck when the tow truck lifted noticed the cradle/sub frame was broken. she was on a country road when it happened. If this was on a highway or interstate there would have been major collision resulting in death. there was no warning when it broke it just broke. after doing some research into why it would break the air conditioning hose to the water to drain was running on the sub frame which rusted and eventually break, the break shifted the engine about a foot and dropped about 10 inches Since she didn't hit anything or no property damage there was no police involved. I have reached out to chrysler with the issue with no response. My family was in danger due to a poor design that could of been avoided and what I read she wasn't the only one.

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that an abnormal squeaking noise would emit from the brakes as the 4-wheel drive and tire pressure warning lights appeared on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who discovered severe corrosion was on the entire subframe, but mostly on the front end of the vehicle. The mechanic replaced the rear passenger’s side rotor; he also informed her that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to the corrosion. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 129,000.

The crossmember- engine cradle that hold the engine in place. I heard a noise and took it to my mechanic he took pictures of the crossmember showing that it is rusted through showing holes. Took it in to a jeep dealer to have it diganosed, they confirmed that it is unsafe to drive as the engine can actually fall out. I contacted chrysler and they said that there was an extension of the warranty on this part that expired a month ago. They sent me to Mopar parts to see if they would pay for the repair. After days they rejected the claim. Now this car is 10 years old however it only has 48000 miles which is less than 5000 miles a year. I bought the car bran new. So it all rusted through on a car with only the 48000 miles. At best this should have been a recall. But at least customers owning this car should have been notified about this warranty extension so they could have had it checked and reparied before some one is killed driving a car that the engine could fall out on the road. Now Mopar is refusing to cover the cost of fixing it because the warranty extension expired a month and a half ago . Even though they know there is a problem with it. I feel that I need some help in making Mopar or Chrysler pay to have this work completed. I also have had to replace the 4 wheel drive as that went bad along with replacing the rear axles as they also rusted.

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, the vehicle went into limp mode and would not exceed 25 mph. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with the brake switch, camshaft sensor, catalytic converter, and the crankshaft sensor needing to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer a month later where it was diagnosed with the throttle body and the brake switch needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,317.

I THEN DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT ONE OF THE COMPLAINTS THAT COMPASS OWNERS HAVE IS THE TIPM WILL GO OUT AND CAUSE SOME SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE WHOLE VEHICLE. I HAD TO HAVE IT FIXED AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR $651.00 BECAUSE IT IS A DEALER SPECIFIC PART. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS PART HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED IN THE COMPASS WHEN IT HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THE GRAND CHEROKEE, WRANGLER AND DURANGO. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DANGEROUS DEFECT IN JEEPS WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE. AND IF THAT WAS NOT BAD ENOUGH, THERE IS A RECALL ON THE AIRBAGS AND SEAT BELT MECHANISM (THEY WON'T DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT) AND THE RELEASE OF THE FIX IS BEING HELD UP UNTIL LATER THIS YEAR (AS LATE AS SEPTEMBER ACCORDING TO A TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALERSHIP). BOTH ISSUES NEED TO BE ADDRESSED BECAUSE BOTH COULD CAUSE FATALITIES AND THE ETC ISSUE IS COSTING CONSUMERS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.

MARKED BY AN AUDIBLE WHINE AND THE ILLUMINATION OF THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT LIGHT, THE CVT ON THE 2.4L 4-CYLINDER ENGINE IN THE 2011 JEEP COMPASS EXPERIENCES SIGNIFICANT AND DRAMATIC POWER LOSS. THIS IS ESPECIALLY PREVALENT AT SUSTAINED HIGHWAY SPEEDS CREATING A POTENTIALLY UNSAFE SITUATION. IF THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATS TOO MUCH, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION COOLS DOWN. THIS ISSUE FIRST HAPPENED ON MY 2011 JEEP COMPASS IN JULY 2014 AND WAS TEMPORARILY RECTIFIED BY JEEP. THEIR SOLUTION WAS TO REPLACE THE CVT TRANSMISSION FLUID. HOWEVER, THIS PROBLEM HAS RETURNED THIS SUMMER UNDER HIGHWAY USE, ESPECIALLY ON HOT DAYS. ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, MY FAMILY AND I EXPERIENCED NOT ONLY THE WHINE FROM THE CVT, BUT SIGNIFICANT POWER LOSS ON THE HIGHWAY. FORTUNATELY, HAVING EXPERIENCED THIS PREVIOUSLY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER ALLOWING THE TRANSMISSION TO COOL DOWN WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP AND BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE SINCE HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN INTO ON-COMING TRAFFIC. WITHIN A MONTH LATER IT HAPPENED TO ME AND AGAIN WHILE MAKING A SLOW LEFT-HANDED TURN. MY WIFE NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THE JEEP AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN NEXT TIME IT HAPPENED. THEY KEPT IT FOR A WEEK AND SAID THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS REPORTED NO ISSUES. THEY SAID UNTIL IT HAPPENED WITH THEM THEY COULDN'T ISOLATE THE PROBLEM. TODAY, JULY 18TH, 2012 IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN WITH MY WIFE FOR THE 4TH TIME MAKING A LEFT-HANDED TURN AGAIN. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD AND UPON RESEARCHING OTHER CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS, IT IS QUITE COMMON. IN FACT, I AM FINDING THAT 25-50% OF THE CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2011 JEEP COMPASS ARE RELATED TO THIS ENGINE STALL OUT WHILE DRIVING. WE HAVE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AS WE WERE INSTRUCTED AND I LEFT THEM COPIES OF THE RESEARCH I DID AND CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS SO THEY HAVE NO REASON TO SAY IT IS ISOLATED TO JUST MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THERE IS A DEFINITE TREND THAT WARRANTS A SAFETY RECALL IN MY OPINION. I TOOK IT UP TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I GOT IT, THEY TOOK PICTURES AND SUBMITTED THEM TO CHRYSLER AND THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE AND REPAIR THE WINDOW BECAUSE THEY SAID THERE IS NO POSITIVE WAY TO DETERMINE IF IT WAS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. *KB

WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 5 TRAVELING AT 65 - 70 MPH THERE WAS A LOUD EXPLOSION TYPE SOUND AND THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF OUR 5 WEEK OLD 2011 JEEP COMPASS SUDDENLY DROPPED. UPON COMING TO A SKIDDING STOP IN THE CENTER DIVIDE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE WHEEL AND TIRE HAD BROKEN OFF OF THE VEHICLE LEAVING ONLY THE CENTER PART OF THE WHEEL BOLTED TO THE CAR. THE CAR CAME TO A STOP ON THE ROTOR. THE WHEEL'S FIVE SPOKES WERE COMPLETELY SNAPPED AND THE TIRE STILL ATTACHED WITH SEVERAL BURN HOLES ON THE SIDE WALLS BUT NO TREAD DAMAGE. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO ANY OTHER PARTS OF THE CAR EXCEPT FOR TIRE MARKINGS ON THE SIDE AS IT DETACHED FROM THE JEEP COMPASS. THE WHEEL AND TIRE WERE FOUND APPROXIMATELY 60 YARDS DOWN THE FREEWAY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT CHP SAID IT WAS A VERY FORTUNATE SITUATION AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORSE. THE JEEP CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP CAN NOT EXPLAIN IT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY CAN NOT EXPLAIN IT BUT SAID IT WAS TOO COST PROHIBITED TO PAY FOR FORENSIC TESTING ON THE WHEEL SO WILL ONLY PAY FOR THE DAMAGE AND NOT THE "WHAT IFS". WE ARE BEING TOLD THAT IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THE WHEEL TESTED FOR POSSIBLE STRESS FRACTURES. OUR COMPASS HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR A MONTH AND CHRYSLER HAS STILL NOT SENT AN INVESTIGATOR TO LOOK AT IT DESPITE OUR MANY CALLS. DO NOT WANT TO HAVE JUST THE ONE WHEEL FIXED AND GET BACK IN THE CAR IF ALL THE WHEELS COULD BE DEFECTIVE. WE MIGHT NOT BE SO LUCKY NEXT TIME. *KB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD PULL HARD TOWARD THE RIGHT WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A COMBINATION OF THE NATURE OF THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE AND DRIVER INEXPERIENCE. THE TECHNICIANS ADJUSTED THE CAMBER YET THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE ADJUSTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65. UPDATED 07/20/11 *BF THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO CHANGE GEARS. THERE WAS A WHINING SOUND AND IT FELT AS THOUGH, IT WAS STRAINING TO CHANGE GEARS. THE FAILURE RESULTED IN A LOSS OF POWER NECESSARY TO MERGE SAFELY FROM ONE LANE OF TRAFFIC TO ANOTHER. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. THE VEHICLE STRUGGLED TO RE-START, BUT EVENTUALLY IT DID. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTERWARDS. UPDATED 11/21/11
