Is Jeep reliable?
Across rated models, Jeep averages a 4.1/5 ForCar Reliability Score, with 18 models rated 4★ or higher. Each model is scored from NHTSA crash-test safety, recall frequency and the share of owner complaints involving a crash, fire or injury — not user reviews.
Jeep occupies the off-road and SUV segments of Stellantis, competing with Ford Bronco, Toyota 4Runner, Land Rover and Suzuki Jimny depending on the model. Trail Rated certification — a Jeep-internal benchmark across traction, ground clearance, articulation, water fording and maneuverability — distinguishes off-road-capable variants from mall-crossover sellers. The 4xe plug-in hybrid Wrangler and Grand Cherokee represent Jeep's electrification path while preserving body-on-frame off-road capability.

Jeep window stickers →How to read a Jeep VIN
Every Jeep built since 1981 carries a unique 17-character VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). It encodes where and when the vehicle was made, its engine and body — here's what each part means:
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Jeep and the country it was built in.
- VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled it.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Where to find your Jeep VIN: the lower-left corner of the windshield, the driver's door jamb sticker, or your registration and insurance documents. Paste it into the decoder above to read it instantly.
About Jeep
In 1940 the US Army solicited bids for a quarter-ton 4×4 reconnaissance vehicle. American Bantam, Willys-Overland and Ford each submitted prototypes; Willys won mass-production rights for what became the MB Jeep, of which 360,000 were built during World War II. Willys trademarked the Jeep name in 1943 and launched the civilian CJ-2A in 1945. The brand passed through Kaiser, AMC, Chrysler, DaimlerChrysler, Cerberus, Fiat-Chrysler and now Stellantis ownership.
